The Protagonist. A sentient Trans-Reality Mech designed by Prince Lotor of the Galra Empire and made to fight Voltron several times, Sincline has since been abandoned in the Quintessence Field after the defeat of Honerva. However a portal opens, allowing him to escape and enter the world of Remnant, while also transforming him into a human. Seeking redemption for his past, Sincline trains to become a Huntsman alongside his new friends Team RWBY. It's revealed that he is the Sole Survivor of the Children of the Rift, an ancient species of warriors powered by Quintessence.
  • Abusive Parents: His "father", Lotor, controlled Sincline against his will and made him fight against the Paladins of Voltron, causing them to suffer. His "mother" Allura, abandoned him in the Quintessence Field. His "grandmother", Honerva, made him her puppet, and forced him to merge with her own mech to commit the largest genocide in all of existence.
  • The Ace: Quickly becomes the most skilled and powerful Huntsman among the first years in Beacon, even besting Pyrrah Nikos. He later defeats Qrow, a world-renowned Huntsman.
  • Ace Pilot: Sincline is an extremely competent pilot, able to easily maneuver around enemies, tricking them into crashing into each other.
  • Adaptational Badass: While he was already a badass in canon, having Aura makes him even more so. It even allows him to use his warping abilities without the danger of causing a rift in reality. He also steadily begins gaining more and more powers as time goes on. He even has powers similar to the silver-eyed warriors.
  • Adaptational Heroism: Subverted. He was never genuinely evil. It was more so his pilots, Lotor and Honerva, who controlled him and made him do horrific things.
  • Adaptation Name Change: While Sincline does retain his name, he later gains the last name Yamato.
  • Adaptational Species Change: Went from being a mech to a human being.
  • All There in the Manual: Information on Sincline's character, abilities, and powers can be found here. For info on him for Book 2, look here.
  • Amusingly Awful Aim: Put a gun in Sincline's hand, and he'll hit anywhere but the target.
  • Arm Cannon: Sincline can fire powerful Ion Cannon blasts from his hands, and unlike when he's holding a gun, he never misses.
  • Ascended Extra: He went from an enemy mech to being the main character.
  • The Atoner: Sincline trains to become a Hunstman to make up for his past.
  • Battle Couple: With Ruby.
  • Beautiful Singing Voice: Sincline is a natural singer, much to his and everyone's surprise.
  • Beware My Stinger Tail: In his armor, Sincline has a wicked tail whip with a fork at the end.
  • Blood Knight: One of Sincline's greatest joys is when he fights someone.
  • Berserk Button:
    • Hurting his friends. When he learns about the character of Jacques Schnee from Weiss, he declares that should he ever touch Weiss again, he will kill him. He plans to get Ironwood's help to take care of Jacques, and if that doesn't work, he plans to kill the man himself, which he does in Chapter 38.
    • Trying to manipulate or control him.
    • Lotor.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Comes to Ruby's rescue multiple times throughout the story.
  • Clueless Chick-Magnet: As a human, his good looks and personality captured the attention of many young women, including Ruby, Weiss, Neo, Coco, and Saphron. However, he only has eyes for Ruby.
  • Did I Just Say That Out Loud?: Sincline has a habit of speaking his thoughts out loud. So much so it's a Running Gag.
  • Dual Wielding: Sincline uses dual Scimitars when facing others in combat.
  • Fatal Flaw: While he is neigh unstoppable in his original form, it takes about 30 seconds for him to transform. In that time frame, there's no telling what someone could do.
  • Fish out of Water: Due to having no prior experience being human and interacting with others, Sincline has little to no understanding of social norms or figures of speech. He didn't even know what Christmas was, much to Jaune, Ren, and Mercury's shock.
  • Foil: With Mercury. Both have less than steller fathers who used them for their own agendas, are the only guy on a team full of girls, have committed horrifying acts of destruction and carnage, are close-range fighters who enjoy a good fight, and have robotic body parts (though while Sincline is a full-on mech, Mercury has robotic legs). As for differences, Sincline is seeking redemption for his past while Mercury, despite slowly becoming better, has no desire to change who he is, at first. Sincline is disgusted with himself while Mercury feels no guilt for the people he's killed. Sincline prefers to fight opponents in the open while Mercury is an Assassin who strikes in the shadows. Sincline has no knowledge about human customs whereas Mercury is well versed in them.
  • Glowing Eyes of Doom: When he's angry, Sincline's eyes flash menacingly at whoever is the target of his anger. He's also able to use a power similar to that of silver-eyed warriors.
  • Good Is Not Dumb: Despite being a genuinely good guy and new to the world of Remnant, Sincline is not that naive. He can tell just from his first meeting with Ozpin that the headmaster is hiding something. And he can tell from noticing Ironwood after the Argus base attack that there is a possibility of someone controlling the Grimm.
  • Good Is Not Soft: When in battle, Sincline is ruthless with his opponents and has no issue killing others if it means protecting himself and others.
  • Guile Hero: Along with being very good in a fight, Sincline is also an expert strategist, and well-versed in the art of warfare and using your mind in a fight, as first seen when he provoked team CRDL. He's also able to devise a plan that allows Robyn Hill a seat of power on the Council and forces her to play nice with Ironwood, forever changing the political landscape of Atlas.
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: Has this dynamic with his girlfriend Ruby.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: Having taken part in the most horrific genocide in all of existence, albeit unwillingly, Sincline has a shallow opinion of himself, seeing himself as a weapon and nothing more.
  • Lethal Chef: Sincline is a terrible cook, as shown in both the Christmas and Valentine's Day specials where he burned down the kitchen in both attempts. However, he managed to make several large cookies that Ruby enjoyed after much trial and error. However, he and the guys failed to make any delicious chocolates on Valentine's Day.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Sincline is incredibly fast as well as a powerhouse.
  • Like Father, Like Son: Despite how much he may hate it, Sincline does share many traits with his creator, Lotor:
    • They both are incredibly skilled swordsmen, who are also terrible with a gun.
    • They both have a hatred of politics.
    • Are genius strategists.
    • Don't tolerate discrimination.
  • Master Swordsman: Thanks to Lotor's 10,000 years of battle experience, Sincline is a master at using bladed weapons, specifically his Scimitars, in battle.
  • Meaningful Name: When picking a last name, Weiss and Ruby suggest the name Yamato, named after the Japanese battleship famous for being the largest and most powerful of its era. It was also the name of the sword from the Devil May Cry franchise. The latter is meaningful because the sword could create portals like Sincline and he prefers bladed weapons.
  • Mundane Utility: Sincline sometimes uses his warping ability to eat undisturbed in the Quintessence Field when others try to steal his food.
  • My Greatest Second Chance: Sees coming to Remnant and meeting Team RWBY as a chance to make up for all the lives he's taken.
  • Official Couple: With Ruby Rose.
  • Only One Name: In the beginning, Sincline only had one name no last name. Eventually, the girls help him come up with a last name, Yamato.
  • Naïve Newcomer: To the world of Remnant.
  • Nature Versus Nurture: Sincline had one of the most abusive lives imaginable, one that would leave him feeling rather bitter and resentful of existence. But he moves to protect others and vanquish evil by instinct when he sees it. In her dying breath, Maria declares that Sincline is a defender by nature, and he proved that against the Apathy, meaning that Sincline was always meant to be a Defender, like his "brother" Voltron.
  • The One Guy: Becomes the sole male member of Team RWBY.
  • Parental Abandonment: His "mother" Allura abandoned him in the Quintessence Field.
  • Pet Monstrosity: Sincline gets a pet Kitsune, an S-Class Grimm, he names Accalia.
  • Plagued by Nightmares: Sincline has reoccurring nightmares of his battles against the Paladins.
  • Purple Is Powerful: His color scheme is purple, considering the Prince of the Galra Empire made him.
  • Sole Survivor: Is the last Child of the Rift in existence.
  • Sinister Scimitar: His weapons of choice are a pair of Scimitars. However, he isn't evil.
  • The Strategist: Sincline is an expert tactician. Case in point he won against several characters in multiple board games, even though it was his first time playing. Also, he came up with a plan that was able to affect the future of Atlas forever.
  • Tall, Dark, and Handsome: Standing tall at 6'2'', dressed in black, and good-looking, all he needs is a gruff voice and he's Batman.
  • Teleport Spam: Can move in and out of the Quintessence Field at will. His Aura prevents him from creating a tear in reality.
  • They Call Him "Sword": Sincline's last name Yamoto, comes from the famous katana from the Devil May Cry franchise.
  • Trauma Button: His experience with the Alpha Nightmare and fighting against Weiss' Nightmare.
  • What Is This Thing You Call "Love"?: When Sincline first develops feelings for Ruby he doesn't exactly know what they are due to his lack of experience with human emotion. It's only after Weiss points them out does he realizes he's in love with Ruby.
