Database Ranger/Phantom Ranger

The main protagonist of the series. Despite seeming like your standard Power Rangers-obsessed nerd in the first few episodes, there's far more to him than it seems at first glance.

Alternate Self: Twofold. In the first Power Morphicon episode, he almost ran into Jacob Brode, the actor who plays him in the series in the first Power Morphicon episode. Furthermore, Database is the Phantom Ranger of the RPM universe, making him this to the main continuity's Phantom Ranger.

  • Played with further with clarification on the series's timeline: the RPM universe is the Original Timeline and the "Main Timeline" is a branch from it, making the Main Timeline Phantom Ranger his alternate and not the other way around.

Amnesiac Resonance: A surprisingly capable fighter, even if he can't consciously do so at first. Also, he has a crush on Cassie.

Berserk Button: Don't bring up the fact that Mack is a robot.

Calling Your Attacks: But of course. "Phantom Fire Dimensional Beam Seal", "Ruby Blast", and "Phantom Laser", specifically.

Catchphrase: Several."Greetings, Ranger fans, and welcome to Power Reviews!" is how Database Ranger typically opens each episode, though variations do happen, especially as of late.

  • Before going into the episode review, Database opens with, "And that's the end of the episode! What did I think of it?" although variations occur when either Dr. K reviews an episode, or Database has a co-host.

Costume Evolution: The Phantom Ranger costume gains a visual upgrade in Episode 85, gaining a proper, non-CG helmet and looking significantly less battered and worn-down.

Demonic Possession: By Venjix, from Episodes 70-77.

  • Was also victim of Dark Specter's possession in the past, as per the Boom Comics, even though DB has no conscious memory of this.

Glowing Eyes: Under his glasses, his eyes glow white. Temporarily turns red under Venjix's control.

Heroic Sacrifice: A running theme is that Database will always try to sacrifice himself, or be open to doing so. As this is the main defining trait of the Phantom Ranger, this is not surprising.

  • As of Episode 99, this has come to pass.

Identity Amnesia: Is a very amnesiac, mentally-scrambled Phantom Ranger.

Invisibility: His main power as the Phantom Ranger.

Large Ham: Database occasionally ventures into this territory. A sharp contrast with his original identity.

Limited Wardrobe: In almost every episode thus far, Database Ranger wears a t-shirt with the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers underneath a Power Rangers in Space jacket.

Loss of Identity: As is hinted at throughout, and fully revealed in Episode 92, the Phantom Ranger's mind got fried when his ship's database downloaded itself into his positronic matrix-and the Landlord took full advantage of that.

Manchild: Very much so, at first. Starts to grow out of this as the series progresses.

My Greatest Failure: Is implied to blame himself for not arriving in time to stop Venjix from decimating Earth.

Mysterious Past: Database has no memory of his past before the start of the series, and much of the first half of the series is about him trying to find out who he is. Especially true, as he's actually the Phantom Ranger-one of the most mysterious characters in the series.

Ridiculously Human Robot: He's revealed to be a "Synth Organic Bio-Mechanoid" in Episode, as K calls it. (A robot in the original sense of the word: a constructed person.)

  • This is elaborated on in Episode 97: when the scientists of Eltar were constructing a new body for Zordon after he was freed from the time warp, the Phantom Ranger volunteered to undergo the procedure before him in order to test whether or not the energy transfer would work. Before then, the Phantom Ranger didn't have a body.

Sixth Ranger: Not for the series proper, but he was for Turbo. Lampshaded in Episode 96:

"Man, that Sixth Ranger Syndrome hits hard."

Doctor K

One of the main characters, from Power Rangers RPM, who co-hosts the show with Database.
Berserk Button: As in RPM, don't call the Ranger Operator costumes "Spandex".

Greater-Scope Paragon: Accidentally. By trying to save her past self from alphabet Soup, K splintered the timeline and created the Main Power Rangers Timeline, that almost every other series (save Dino Charge) is set in.

Unwitting Instigator of Doom: As in RPM, Dr. K released the Venjix Virus onto Earth when she was just trying to go outside; however, they stopped her before she could limit Venjix, leading to the computer virus decimating the planet and wiping out almost all of humanity. And unfortunately, it doesn't stop there: when trying to save her younger self, she split the timeline and gave the Alphabet Soup of the other world an interest in dimensional research-and she let go of her younger counterpart's hadn't, letting her fall into the Landlord's clutches.

Guy

One of Database's neighbors, who temporarily moves in with him.

  • Badass Normal: The only one who isn't a super-genius or empowered in some way. That doesn't stop him from kicking all sorts of ass.

  • Berserk Button:
    • If the review of Super Megaforce from, well, Super Megaforce means anything, Guy gets pissed whenever the alien invasion of Power Rangers in Space is ignored (E.G, "This is the greatest threat our planet has ever known.").
    • To a lesser extent, getting kicked in the face.

The Men in Black: Guy is a Government agent who works for Alphabet Soup.

  • The Mole: In truth, Guy is actually an agent of Hexagon, a top-secret Government organization that monitors the Morphin Grid for imbalances. His mission was to infiltrate Alphabet Soup and spy on the organization.

Mayo

A friend and neighbor of Database, who looks almost identical to Doctor K.
Alternate Self: Mayo is an alternate universe counterpart of Doctor K.

Only Sane Man: Mayo, in comparison to the eccentric Database, mysterious Guy, and the Morpotzners, is the main voice of reason.

Mitch and Mary Morpotzner

Two of Database's neighbors who are strangely in-sync.
The Dividual: Courtesy of Darkonda.

Sixth Ranger: Fills the role due to both mirroring Gem and Gemma, and Providing K and Mayo the means to take Darkonda down for good in 98.

     Villains

Alphabet Soup

The Governmental organization from Power Rangers RPM.
Big Bad: Their actions are for the good of humanity, and they serve as one of the main antagonists of the series.
  • Big Bad Wannabe: For all their machinations, They're ultimately pawns of Dark Specter's greater machinations.

Unwitting Instigator of Doom: If they hadn't abducted K, most of the events of the series would never have happened.

Venjix

The main villain of Power Rangers RPM. Infects Database's Positronic matrix in the end of Episode 70, and remains in play until Episode 78.

The Bus Came Back: Four times-albeit only twice in this series. First, from episodes 70 and 77, then another manifestation in Episode 78-then later as an illusory in 98. And finally, he later returns in Beast Morphers proper as Evox.

Chewing the Scenery: And HOW.

Final Boss: In a weird, roundabout way: as this takes place before Beast Morphers, Venjix technically survives past most of the series as Evox, and thus outlives Dark Specter and Darkonda. Downplayed as he's not the Final Boss of this series, but he very much is for the Beast Morphers Rangers.

Irony: Despite K deleting the specters of Venjix in 78 and 98, and the emphasis they put on the Virus being defeated in the rest of the series, the series takes place before Beast Morphers-so Venjix is still very much alive at this point in the timeline.

Knight of Cerebus: Yep.

Small Role, Big Impact: Despite only hijacking Database's body for a few episodes, Venjix's presence ramps up the plot by giving Alphabet Soup access to the Wireless Interdimensional Interface, and leads to the reveal of the Morpotzners as the masterminds behind Alphabet Soup's plans.

The Landlord/Dark Specter

"You should have known that the Grand Monarch of Evil could not be destroyed so easily."

WARNING: MASSIVE SPOILERS ABOUND.

Initially appearing as a dark copy of Database, the Landlord is a force of evil working against the heroes. He is the Greater-Scope Villain of the series, and has been manipulating everyone and pulling everyones' strings behind the scenes for his own nefarious plans.

As is revealed in Episode 94, he is in fact none other than Dark Specter himself, having survived his presumed destruction at the end of the series.

Adaptational Badass: Played With. While he remains just as imposing as he was in the eerie s proper, this series put far more focus on Dark Specter's ability to manipulate people and get into their heads.

Big Bad: Yep.

The Chessmaster: To both the series, and the entirety of Megaforce.

The Dreaded: Database is terrified of him. And rightfully so.

Demonic Possession: A shared trait from the comics continuity. Possessed Maligore's dead body in Power Rangers in Space, and now possessing a copy of Database's body.

Didn't See That Coming: Did Dark Specter really not see Darkonda trying to betray him again? (At the very least, the end of 98 revealed that he survived Darkonda's literal backstab, implying he had a failsafe just in case.)

Evil Counterpart: To Database.

Evil Doppelgänger: To Database Ranger. This is because Dark Specter required a strong host body to host his essence, and made a copy of Database's body.

Glowing Eyes of Doom: His eyes "Glow" a pitch black.

Greater-Scope Villain: And HOW. In this series alone, he pulled the Phantom Ranger's ship through the Rift, and is ultimately responsible for most, if not all, of the events of the series. And given how he's Dark Specter, this extends to the franchise proper.

  • Episode 97 implies that he's this to Power Rangers Megaforce as well. Episode 98 outright confirms this, as he's revealed to be directly responsible for the Armada coming to Earth, and Andresia being razed as well.

Knight of Cerebus: He traps Database in a Lotus-Eater Machine, turns him into a washed out hermit, and attempts to end his show, all while calmly expressing his disdain for Power Rangers. This all makes a lot more sense when you realize he's Dark Specter.

Manipulative Bastard: The Landlord's MO throughout the series.

The Man Behind the Man: The Morpotzners, K Alpha, and Darkonda all serve him-and even the Megaforce Rangers unknowingly serve him.

Shadow Archetype: Claims that he is this to Database. The truth is more complex.

Will Not Tell a Lie: The Landlord rarely lies directly. He relies on Exact Words, partial truths, and misdirections, but he rarely, if ever, tells a direct falsehood.

Darkonda

The treacherous villain from In Space. In episode 95, it is revealed that he was revived by Dark Specter and that pieces of his soul have been responsible for all of the Omega Agents, and the Morpotzners' synchronicity.
Hijacked By Ganon: He tries to be this, literally backstabbing Dark Specter in 98. However, given the latter survived, this likely failed.

Killed Off for Real: By Doctor K and Mayo using the Phantom Megazord.

Walking Spoiler: Darkonda's the one possessing the Omega Agents and the Morpotzners.

K Alpha

An Alternate Universe version of Doctor K from the main Timeline. Her existence is the driving force behind much of the story.

Dark and Troubled Past: Given how K Alpha grew up under Dark Specter, and how badly she takes her failure in 95, it's pretty apparent that K Alpha did not have a happy or easy childhood-made worse by commentaries revealing that she was mostly used as a resource for her scientific knowledge.

Shadow Archetype: To Doctor K. K Alpha is a genius who created the Ranger keys and is the scientific mind behind Dark Specter's plans-yet she's also more childish, withdrawn, and relatively amoral than K, serving as a dark reflection of what K could have become had she never escaped Alphabet Soup.

Trapped in Villainy: Evil she may be, K Alpha never had a chance to be anything other than a servant of Dark Specter.

Walking Spoiler: Her mere existence is a spoiler that reveals the nature of the plot, and drives the story forward.
