better organization - since we're now in season six i'd like to suggest maybe some better organization for the characters. the separate pages made sense at the time they were created, but as the show's gone on and certain things have been dropped in favor of others ( the majority of the hunters for other supernatural creatures ), I think some reorganizing could be done. I'd be more than happy to do this myself if no one else has a problem with that, but I wanted to post in here before I started shifting things all willy-nilly.

Mega Manning as a trope for the Darach: I don't think it works in general, nor how it was used in her entry. We don't know if the victims match a specific "power" of the Darach, or if she simply gained more power through killing 4x3 people (which was actually my impression, but I don't think it's ever said either way). Anyone have any particular feelings on this?

One thing I've been thinking about: Spoilers. Right now, our way of spoiling on the character page is a bit all over the place - I myself am guilty of this, too - and I'd like to find a way to make it a bit more unified. Handling Spoilers suggests that we think more of the casual readers, who are not so worried about spoilers than fans, who might be more afraid to get spoiled.

The way we have so far seems to be spoilerfonting deaths, and spoilerfonting the most recent season, except for the Supernatural Antagonists folder, where we kind of spoilerfont everything. I'd like to change the latter - we put in a line saying that we won't spoilerfont the actual identity of the characters hidden behind the mask anymore, except for the most recent season. I mean, when we have Big Bad for Peter and Jennifer, it makes little sense to white-out their names in the relevant "Monster" entries.

I'd also think in cases where the death of the character is important for the storyline of other characters, we shouldn't spoilerfont it. We have Driven to Suicide for Victoria, and probably Died in Your Arms Tonight for Allison (I think in her case?), and we have unspoiled references to their deaths in Chris' entry, so where's the point in whiting out their deaths in their own entries?

What does everyone else think?

We're over 400K for the characters page, so we'll have to do a split soon. I'm currently looking into how that's done. My basic idea would be using the current divisions, i.e. Main Characters and Recurring Characters, and the subdivisons for RC. How would everyone else feel about dividing Main Characters into "Current Main Characters" and "Former Main Characters"? Or is that too much fuss?

The Ho Yay tropes for Derek and Stiles should not be regarded as YMMV, since the show people, especially the actors Dylan O'Brien and Tyler Hoechlin, openly acknowledge that they are doing it on purpose, and even used Ship Tease in a fan video calling for votes for the 2012 Teen Choice Awards.

People keep adding Pitbull Dates Puppy to describe Stiles and Malia's relationship. I think that is way exaggerating her physical assertiveness and completely downplaying that he's the one who teaches her how behaving like a normally functioning human works. From my POV, it is possible - though not necessary - to describe their relationship as unequal, but Stiles is actually the one who has the advantage. Anyone else? Alternatively, anybody got a suggestion for a trope that could be used instead of Pitbull Dates Puppy?

An argument could be made for Malia fitting the Pitbull (especially in the beginning), but Stiles is by no means a Puppy.

Maybe a variation of Masculine Girl, Feminine Boy? While Stiles isn't really "feminine" he's not really overtly masculine either? I'd say that's still kind of stretching it, though.

I agree.

I thought about Tiny Guy, Huge Girl, but she really isn't much taller than him (and he's definitely not tiny, either). It's funny, because a pairing of a stronger, more athletic girl, and a brainier guy is actually one that is a pretty typical comedic staple, but I haven't found a fitting trope so far. I think I'll ask in Lost And Found.

ETA: someone on L&F actually suggested Brains and Brawn, that would work, wouldn't it?

Why was "Proud Beauty" omitted from Lydia's section? I realize that just using a Holland quote to explain it was a lazy move, but even without it there's plenty of evidence that Lydia is one.

I removed it because from the trope description it didn't seem to fit, and what actors say is usually more their headcanon than show canon. Do you have an example from the show itself?

Okay, there are now eight folders in secondary characters: Other Beacon Hills High Students, School Staff, Family Members, Allies, Werewolves, Hunters, Eichen House Residents, and Antagonists.

I've moved Chris Argent to Allies, to signify that he has largely left his family legacy behind. The Calaveras and the other Argents are in Hunters. Hales, Alpha Pack and Satomi's Pack are in Werewolves. Moved Morrell to Allies as well, since she pops up in surprising places.

I've added more S3/S4 characters: Berserkers, Vallack, Severo, Liam's stepfather (does he have a first name) and Brunski. I haven't really spoilered Brunski being a serial killer, since I had two tropes that directly refer to that. If someone has a different idea - go for it.

I still want to add entries for Dr. Fenris, Garrett and Violet, La Loba, and the assassins (The Mute, the Chemist, the Orphans as G&V's evil identity). I don't know about Deputy Haigh, is he important? He appears in two eps, and I doubt he'll come back.

We still have a serious lack of images for the newer characters. I just added one for Braeden.

Would it be okay to add a "hunters" and a "werewolves" folder in Secondary Characters? It would be a chance to integrate the Calaveras in one group with the Argents, and put the Hale family, the Alpha Pack and characters like Satomi into a folder together.

I'd then rename the Other Family Members folder into "Family Members" since we wouldn't have The Hale Family and The Argent Family anymore.

I've been playing around in the Teen Wolf Characters Sandbox a bit, and added some new folders under Secondary Characters: Hunters, Werewolves, and Eichen House Residents. I also renamed some folders - Other Family Members to just Family Members, Other Recurring Characters to Allies and Antagonists back to Mysterious Supernatural Antagonists - and moved some characters around. Please take a look (anyone else who's interested, too, of course)!

I added a section for the Calaveras under 'Antagonists.' It's still very much under construction and anyone who wants to add tropes is more than welcome.

I put them in Antagonists because they are hunters, and antagonists don't necessarily have to be evil, but they could easily go into "Other Recurring Characters" if people think that's more appropriate.

I've also been thinking about a "Eichen House residents" folder. With the introduction of Vallack and Level 6 and the (re-)introduction of Fenris, it seems we'll be spending more time there, and with Brunski and Meredith, we'd already have four people who could go into this folder. Thoughts?

I just took out a whole bunch of tropes from Lydia. Some were more true of the actress than the character, some were kind of saying the same as other tropes she already had, and some seem to have been misunderstood (Bunny-Ears Lawyer was a case in point). Do we have specific rules how we deal with the second kind especially? I've taken out Bratty Teenage Daughter because she already has Rich Bitch, which seem to overlap quite a bit. Does she really need both?

True. I felt there generally were some misunderstandings about trope meanings. There were also both The Ditz and Brainless Beauty. Both averted of course, but for me, The Ditz also implies naivity, and while Lydia pretended not to know anything in Season 1, she never appeared naive.

I have revamped the Secondary Characters section, using the sandbox edits we've developed. Some characters still need a bit of pruning, especially the older ones. We also need pictures for Braeden, Mason, Satomi, Meredith, etc. Finally, a request: maybe go lightly on the trope Only Friend: the show obviously doesn't have enough money to give characters like Lydia the entourage they'd normally have, and someone like Liam, who only just tranferred maybe simply doesn't have many friends. It's a trope that I've seen in nearly every teenager entry over the last few weeks, and I don't see what it adds, especially since the reason seems to be largely Doylist.

Personally, I think seeing the characters mentioned above getting implemented - even with incomplete tropes lists - would encourage tropers in submitting content here. Right now, the risk would be to be redundant and to give suggestions that you've already implemented in your project.

As of now, moving Alison and Isaac to the "Former Main Characters" section would probably be a good idea. Maybe adding Kira and Malia to the Main Characters list (since they've been confirmed to be regulars in season 4 by some cast/crew members), too.

Allison's entry seems a bit too... negative? As in most of her tropes are focused on her arc in season 2, omitting the growth she went through in season three. I'll have to put a bit more thought into which tropes need to be added, but to start: on her 'Heel-Face Turn' entry, something like "At the end of season 3A, she changes the Argent code to 'We protect those who cannot protect themselves', signifying her conviction to use her skills for good.'

For Scott:

  • First Love: He was the first boy Allison ever loved. She admits as much in early season one and reaffirms this in the season 3 finale.
  • Heroic Resolve: Scott's most valuable trait is that he won't give up despite having to face powerful villains. This is the basis for him managing to achieve True Alpha status in Season 3, something a beta can only achieve through sheer strength of will.
  • Magnetic Hero: Scott's genuinely kind and idealistic personality cause many allies to become attached to him.
  • Pietà Plagiarism: He cradles Allison's dead body this way in 3x23.

For Allison:

Request: Remove the "every anime ever" bit, as it's really not relevant nor specific to that medium.

For Stiles:

  • And I Must Scream: Apparently remembered everything the nogitsune did while possessing him while hardly being able to fight back.
  • Heroes Want Redheads: He's apparently nursed a crush on Lydia since third grade (although he insists she's strawberry blonde).
  • Looks Like Cesare: This trope is in full play after the nogitsune leaves his body — he's pale, his dark hair is messy, he can't seem to get warm, and there are constant bags under his eyes. Isaac lampshades it and tells him he looks like he's dying.

For Kira:

  • Instant Expert: She picks up sword fighting extremely easily and extremely well. Lampshaded when, in the midst of a battle, she yells, "A month ago I'd never even picked up a sword!"

For Lydia:

Request: Remove the "no superhuman abilities" bit. :)

For Peter:

  • Evil Former Friend: Was apparently Derek's closest friend when Derek was a teenager before, y'know, becoming the primary antagonist of the first season.
  • Vague Age: Lampshaded — "Wait, how old are you?" All we know is that he's young enough to have been close friends with Derek when the latter was in high school, although he doesn't look it now.

For Cora:

  • Put on a Bus: She goes back to South America after the events of Season 3A.

For Chris Argent:

  • Not So Stoic: He sheds tears at his wife's and daughter's deaths.
  • The Stoic: Being a Hunter pretty much requires you to be stoic and pragmatic. Even when off the job in Season 3 he still manages to take most of the drastic twists in stride. In "The Divine Move" he says he's always had an ability to suppress his emotions.

For Danny:

  • Meaningful Name: Keeping in with the "werewolves" theme of the show, "Mahealani" refers to the day when the full moon begins to lose its roundness.
  • Secret Secret-Keeper: "The Divine Move" reveals he'd somehow pieced together that Ethan was a werewolf and just never saw fit to bring it up, chalking it up to "Dude, it's Beacon Hills." It's unknown if he knows about the supernatural abilities of the rest of the cast and to what capacity.

For a uniform spoiler point, would it be possible to only spoiler tropes applying to the current season (eg. what Game of Thrones does)? This would avoid all the messy spoilers caused by Allison's death.

For Parrish: His first name, Jordan. Also, maybe remove Shellshocked Veteran, since it's definitely something he's not, and having the trope in his entry makes it look like he should be shellshocked because he has seen combat.

And more for Parrish:

For Satomi (does she even have a character listing yet?):

  • Badass Grandma: She is the oldest werewolf around, but greets Deaton with a playful sparring and takes out professional assassins with ease.
  • Cool Old Lady
  • Cultured Badass: Taught herself to control her werewolf powers through playing Go.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: With Noshiko, due to battling the nogitsune in the 1940s.
  • The Obi-Wan: To her pack, whom she teaches self-control through a Buddhist mantra, and to Derek, as well as somewhat to young Noshiko Yukimura back in the day.
  • Warrior Poet: Her Buddhist beliefs and philosophical outlook helped her master werewolf rage and develop techniques to avoid discovery.

One more for Parrish:

Supernatural Gold Eyes: his eyes start glowing when he bends a metal rod to free Chris Argent.

And another one for Braeden:

Fair Cop: She used to be a US Marshal, until hunting the Desert Wolf turned into an unhealthy obsession.

I find Dr Deaton to be quite pleasant and not at all scary (not even when he raises his voice slightly to a werewolf), yet even on the YMMV page, my protest at him (and Boyd) being labeled a Scary Black Man has been deleted. I find it to be an overused and often misused trope.

If this is an example (needs more emphasis on the personality), add it back. As-is it's just "someone is good with bows" which is People Sit On Chairs.

  • Archer Archetype: Considering that Allison is a hunter, she often uses bows and arrows in order to fight or capture her intended target: werewolves. She seems to have mastered the skill of archery rather effectively.

On the topic of Spoilers:

Is Derek becoming the Alpha still a spoiler, now that season 2 is over? Most of the things in season 2 wouldn't be possibly if not for his ability to give The Bite: no Kanima, no new teen wolves to distract Scott. Sure, Victoria's death and Peter's resurrection would royally spoil season 2, but there's also the matter of "the Alpha" vs "an Alpha", since one fits for the plot and the other for the show's lore, but coming up is an entire pack of Alphas and the implications that killing an Alpha is just one way to become one.

So, are we going to have to use "season 1 alpha" or what?

I'd vote for removing every and all season one spoilers. (For one it looks pretty silly when Peter Hale's own tropes are spoiler marked.)
