(ASSUMING DIRECT CONTROL)

A new day has dawned. Darkness lurks in every corner, and only superheroes can stop it. Reality is not black-and-white, however, and the distinction between hero and villain is a fine line indeed. Welcome, to The Good, the Bad, and the Spandex: Modern Age.

Essentially this is a freeform superhero RP, wherein we make our own plots as we go along. In other words, your average comic book continuity snarl of characters and ideas. And good-old fashioned one-upsmanship.

The 'rules' as such are fairly straightforward:

  • Players decide how their characters are affected. You can attempt to mind control/punch/explode someone, but whether it works is up to the target. Don't just say 'X got paralyzed until the cops showed up'.
  • On the flipside, don't make your character invincible (unless that's their power I guess...) - if your character dodges or shrugs off everything, that's no fun, and I may have to step in. You don't want me to have to step in.
  • If someone isn't responding for more than a few days to a week, let me know and I'll give you the go ahead to Hand Wave away their character's reaction in order to progress the story/free up your character.

There are no power level limits here, but keep in mind that 'God-Man uses his omnipotence to solve everyone's problems forever' isn't fun for anyone, so focus more on fun and potential plot threads than on being 'the strongest'.

With that in mind, here's the signup sheet: Hero/Villain Name

  • Identity: Real Name (if applicable), Status (Hero, Villain, Anti-Hero, Anti-Villain), Private/Public Identity
  • Abilities: Powers, Weaknesses, Skills, equipment, etc.
  • Appearance: Description or Image is fine
  • Personality: How they act
  • Background: How they got their powers, plus anything else you think might be relevant

I made a concept on the discussion page about the Weaponmasters. Any thoughts on that?

  • Identity: Dr. Zoom, Status: Villain, Anthony Kincannon
  • Abilities: Dr. Zoom has incredibly deadly and varied super speed related powers;
    • Phasing: Zoom can phase through solid matter, which usually decays and rots away when he's done moving through it. Yes, including bodies.
    • Supersonic Motions: Dr. Zoom can snap his fingers or simply flick his index finger on his thumb and use the wind pressure resulting from this plus his super speed to do some horrifying damage.
    • He possesses super acceleration and deceleration, being able to reach his top speeds very quickly.
    • He is very talented in using his super speed to create effects on the world like vacuums or vortices, as well as amplifying the force behind his punches.
  • Appearance: In his civilian garb, Anthony resembles a pure, virtuous little choir boy - his love of the arts worn on his sleeve by wearing rather ambiguous and odd shirts depicting surreal art. His pretty face, light blond hair and green eyes, as well as somewhat pale countenance paint a picture of a good young man, fond of the finer things in life. He has a lean, muscular build, inclined more toward running than anything else. His supervillain outfit is if anything a drastic inversion - it has stark yellow coloration dominant, with black and red lines along it, his eyes covered by red pieces that amplify how his eyes glow when he runs.
  • Personality: Dr. Zoom considers himself an artist, and his civilian guise puts his love for art front and center. However, his civilian guise is nothing but a Mask of Sanity. Underneath it is a severely damaged and insane young man lashing out, who believes everything is fundamentally art, especially the various heroes and villains, and it is his job, his task, his heavenly duty even to perfect this art. Suffering breeds great art - so he says, so he wants heroes to be tortured, grim souls driven by conflict, tragedy and disaster, even if he has to personally cause that disaster. He exults in great art, which in his mind, means he exults in great suffering. He cannot comprehend himself living any other way. His greatest fantasy is attaining a level in his powers where he could slow people down, and turn them into "ever unblinking, suffering beautiful statues".
  • Background: Dr. Zoom came from a rather tragic family, being a son of an extremely old guard hero who had not taken to his powers fading with age gracefully - he instead went mad with grief and stir craze, taking to alcoholism and abuse. Anthony ended up seeing his father die after his mother called the cops on him for threatening her one time too many. He...found his father beautiful in death, due to watching it happen - his mind breaking. He wound up attaining his superpowers through exposure to a piece of technology his father had left behind - living a double life from then on, at once being good little Anthony Kincannon, and at the same time being the merciless Dr. Zoom.

Dr. Zoom is approved.

As for concepts, since I'm too lazy to keep track of them just assume anything is fine as long as at least 1 accepted character is involved with it and I haven't explicitly said otherwise.

  • Identity: Brandon Line, Status: villain, Malachite Shadow
  • Abilities:
    • Antithesis Will: Brandon acquired a powerful Weapon from a group of Emotional Energy users who oppose the infamous Weaponmasters of Alqobia...but due to Brandon's circumstances, his Determination and drive to punish those responsible twisted his Weapon from a nonlethal one to an absolutely lethal one. Now, it produces constructs of a distinctly disturbing design - they are naturally made by the wielder's mind, and what does it therefore say about young Malachite Shadow that all he can create are disgusting Eldritch Abominations and things from horror movies...?
    • Emeraldine Reinforcement: His Weapon keeps him alive, cradling his body if it would be damaged, and producing an aura around him to keep him safe - if he dies, his Weapon would die too, given how closely intertwined the two have ended up being.
    • Soul Skewer: His Weapon can actually produce a variety of sharp objects and if these connect, they can drain the Willpower / Determination from the foe to charge up in case Brandon is not motivated. The Weapon seems to do this automatically.
  • Weaknesses: Unskilled, but Strong defines him. He's all of fourteen. He hasn't had much time to get to know his power beyond "I shoot scary stuff at people". His emotions are blatantly unstable, and he biases his decisions based on moment to moment inclinations. Notably, his Weapon seems to have deformed, and causes him pain.
  • Appearance: Eerie Pale-Skinned Brunette describes him pretty well - his ill-tended to dark hair, skinny build and dark eyes create an rather unsettling demeanor together with his methods and tendencies. His deepset eyes add quite a bit to this. He wears a black beanie hat with a web-like design on it, a black jacket over a white long sleeve shirt, black jeans, and boots. He seems to have a scar on his jawline, as if he was grazed by a bullet. Whenever he uses his power, his left eye glows sickly green.
  • Personality: Brandon is basically a vengeful, mostly crazed young boy that has been roaming for a couple years, looking for the people responsible for his state. He internalized the mobster's face, and became determined utterly to avenge the deaths of his beloved parents...by killing the people who orchestrated their deaths. His determination to punish and destroy proved so strong as to corrupt what started off as the Good Counterpart to the Weaponmasters' gear. He wants to avenge his parents, and show everyone else the pain he feels from their deaths - what traumatized him most was the people just walking by, not even noticing what happened in an alleyway. Despite his distrust and venomous detest for most other people, there is one girl he's quite fixated upon - Kirstin, someone he...he doesn't know rightly what these feelings are, so much as he wants to act on them however is appropriate. And he can get quite jealous.
  • Background: His misfortunes start out sounding similar enough - his parents slain in the course of a mob war, left alone by their departure...only this boy was not fortunate enough to even have an Alfred, or wealth, or really, much of anything. He ran, desperate and alone and scared...and eventually, vengeful. He eventually was chosen by the knightly adversaries of the Weaponmasters of Alqobia to hold a Weapon...except while this was meant to be a nonlethal weapon made to help him survive to adulthood to eventually join the Knights, he perverted it with his growing hatred and yearning to punish. It was after he made another attempt to find his parents' assailants that he met Kirstin, and she became a fixation for him almost as severe as his longing for vengeance. Notably, his Weapon, normally a glove, has become gnarled and twisted, forming tendrils around his arm at this point.

Real Name: Alexander Storm

Status: Hero

Hero Name: Captain Adara.

Abilities: this guy is basically a blue lantern, armed with the basic battery, power ring, and costume. although he doesn't share their same weakness, he still needs to charge the ring every day, otherwise it would be useless, and while it can heal, and resist most attacks, it's dependent on his will/hope. so if you break that, his powers go away. it's also dependent on his current energy, as he can't make anything if he's too tired to make anything, and yes using the power does expend his energy

Appearance: Alexander is a Irish american 5'11' black haired and brown eyed person who normally wears an orange long sleeve t-shirt and black sweatpants. he switches into a blue lantern costume with a helmet to cover his face and change his voice when fighting crime

Personality: He strives to be the classic hero, the people who does good for the sake of doing good, trying not to kill, you know the type, he's impulsive, and won't really make a plan before charging in, relying on his gut feeling.

Background: well his life was one of helping others, which persisted into adulthood, he became a therapist and eventually the amount of hope he inspired managed to get him a blue power ring.

Real Name: Project MARS (Designated name). Terrance "Terry" Colt (Preferred name)

Alignment: Neutral, with good leanings.

Alias: Arsenal

Abilities:

  • Weapon Physiology: Able to transform parts of his body (most commonly his limbs) or his entire self into weaponry. Chains, firearms, blades, shields, explosives...If he's seen it, he can turn into it. However, Terrance can't change into weapons that cannot be replicated by modern technology, or anything larger than a howitzer. Terrance can also communicate with those who hold him in weapon form through a limited psychic link.
    • Interestingly, Terrance seems be fully loaded whenever he turns into a gun, although he must cancel the transformation in order to reload. If his weapon form is intended to break him apart (such as a missile or grenade), he will quickly reform back into a human from the shrapnel, although the process does leave him briefly disoriented.
    • Weaknesses: Must learn how to use new weapon forms manually; Rendered immobile when in weapon form unless the weapon itself has means of moving around (i.e. wheeled cannons, missiles, drones).

Appearance: Appearing to be a 19 year-old Caucasian male, Terrance is 6 feet, possessing a lean build, brown hair and steel grey eyes. Wears a dark green shirt, jacket and jeans.

Personality: Generally, Terrance is highly curious youth, possessing a calming air that makes it easy for people to relax and open up around him. However, behind the inquisitive and amiable surface lies a soul desiring a quiet life of his own, where he can make his own choices. He also worries about his past finding him. When it comes do death and killing, Terrance is eerily numb to it, having been brought up thinking that killing was simply another of his purposes. Recently, he has begun learning to see value in life, but old habits do die hard...

Background: Project MARS (Military ARmament Soldier) was created in a top-secret government lab, the first successful attempt to combine military firepower and superhuman genetics in order to produce the ideal superhuman soldier. For the majority of his life, MARS was subjected to experiments testing the limits of his transformation ability, as well as the occasional venture to the battlefield alongside black-ops soldiers. These ventures sparked his curiosity to the outside world, and his desire to live a life of his own, in order to discover what more there was to the world aside from being told to kill so-and-so.

  • 15 years after MARS' creation, an opportunity struck when the lab was breached by a terrorist Cell. Using the confusion and chaos to his advantage, MARS slipped out of the facility. eliminating any witnesses who could stop him. He lived on the run for two more months, before arriving at Easton, with nothing but the clothes on his back and a bag full of (stolen) cash. After talking to the right people in the black market, Project MARS was gone, and Terrance Colt was able to start his new life in Easton.

     Matten's Wayward Siblings/Cousins/Relations—The Other Daeva
The daevas are 'wrong gods', 'false gods' or 'gods that are (to be) rejected', including noxious creatures that promote chaos and disorder to personifications of every imaginable evil. The word daeva literally means 'god', and they are a group of quite genuine gods who (mostly) live up in terms of power. In terms of justice—well, they daeva stay above demons if only because they stick their noses high and above their heads. In any case, they have been rejected by most for reasons, mostly that the daeva as a group are incapable of discerning truth (aša) from decit (druj) note .

Nonetheless, this condition made it rather easy for Angra Mainyu to seduce the daeva to his side. note  Well, that disability, and perhaps Aka Manah (lit. evil will) being their creator. note . In any case, Angra Mainyu is the chief of daeva, but not their creator, and respectable only in that he severely outclasses the lesser daeva in power.

Being things realized through destruction and not made, they're all at least strange, given a random assortment of features from a mix of animal and human, outright Eldritch Abomination and Starfish Alien, and utterly immaterial, only existing as background forces or 'free-ranging' mental afflictions.

However, despite their destructiveness, they are not unlike the demons and fair folk that they look down upon in that they can be kept at bay by humans without terrible trouble. The average Yazata note  far outclasses the average daeva. For anyone, atar (sacred fire) is particularly effective. note  A holy fire in the hearth actively repels daeva from homes; though other things (see below) can attract them regardless, essentially profaning the fire. These days they tend to be found in fire temples scattered among the few remaining Zoroastrians. The very weakest daeva are driven away by sunlight and constantly walk the Earth, following the night. On the other hand, daeva are attracted to the human residue of reproduction, sex, and death...and filth.

Despite their godly status, the daeva's ability to create is extremely limited and arguably nonexistent, as their 'creations' are mere accidents of their essence and, in any case, twists of already existing creation. This is a mark of inferiority never forgotten and dealt with in different ways. And this gets to sapience. Daeva compete for aspects, among other things, with the weakest being all but assimilated to the master of the aspect. The power of an aspect—and the desire to spread it makes for a powerful positive feedback loop, and a daeva may, for all intents and purposes, be a paperclip maximizer for their aspect or an addiction given being, or even a program.
A short list of notable daeva

note  Some notable daeva are Indar who freezes the minds of the righteous; Nasu of pollution and contamination; Areshko of envy (From which Aži's sword gets its power). They rather lack in personality by my initial source, but I can feel out this list if requested.
Tropes
  • Above Good and Evil: So, they might say. Most are happy to admit that they have no idea what those are, and further that they do not care. "Dignity in the face of power is the same as dust..."
  • Abstract Apotheosis: Those daeva successful in conquering an aspect draw strength from the aspect and are able to capture and compel the weaker daeva associated with the aspect. They can both encourage their aspect in others and draw strength from it in a positive feedback loop.
  • Biological Immortality: Long-lived but much easier to permanently kill than yazatas or humans. Their souls are inseparable from their bodies, and, by many scholarly interpretations, the daeva don't exist at all, but are merely destructive vacuums which good has yet to reach.
  • The Heartless: The daeva are accidental offshoots of the evil things in creation. The weakest among them are but mental hazards and compulsions that propagate like prions and can be banished with but therapy (or you know, atar and yazatas). Even the mightiest of them cannot create.
  • Our Gods Are Different: Limitations and the (distinctly not omni)presence of yazatas aside, the daeva are gods, and, as such, needless, note  overwhelmingly powerful and stout, and capable of causing great disasters on a whim. note
  • The Sacred Darkness: Averted. Mattiuzas aside, the daeva are hardly interested in spreading "good" words or developing a following. Whatever cults they gain are accidental.
  • Villainous Underdog: Accidents of creation locked in a doomed struggle—and they know it. They're too unapologetically evil for any kind of valor to shine through however. Villainous Valor hardly exists among them, except for those specifically coveting the aspects of war and battle.
    Aka Manah
A Sentient Cosmic Force note  and creator of daeva. It both sustains and is sustained by acts aligning to its element in a constant positive feedback loop. It should be noted that the House Mattiuza are not its champions. note

Creation is anathema to it, but it has a long-running goal of gaining similar power to exceed Vohu Manah. In the meantime, it has a jolly old time, twisting the creations of its rival into its own image.

So, far, it has little specific interest in the House Mattiuza. Even Matten would refer to it as 'creator' casually, but not as 'parent,' and it is arguably non-sapient (as are ordinary daeva). It certainly recognizes patterns. It can restore killed daeva (or anything else it has power over) more or less exactly or with twists—or recognize their lack of utility and reabsorb them, leaving no trace. There is no way at all to tell when it will do any of these things, and there is certainly no way to tell when it has done the latter.
     Druj Nasu
In General

Matten's very big sister and manifestation of the decay and contamination of corpses. Druj Nasu holds sway over contamination and pollution. She is known, in fact, as the greatest polluter of all creation, and her tendency to inhabit the corpses of the recently dead, only aid this reputation—and encourage the steps people take to avoid her.

Matten herself refers to Druj Nasu as her fun loving if crazy big sister. Alas, Nasu almost entirely devotes her time to 'play,' parading recently dead relatives in front of love ones, haunting homes, random zombie risings, feeling creation decay under her talents, and the occasional round of air guitar. Like most of her fellows, she has no interest at all in cosmic supremacy, but is both self-absorbed and interested in a realm of her own. And, as one of Angra Mainyu's arch-daeva, she is more than powerful to toss enemies aside.

Possessed of a more refined corrupting touch than her little sister and a malicious playfulness, Nasu spends much of her time 'sampling' the bodies of the recently deadnote  and simply touching things, rendering them unclean 'for ever and ever.' note  There is an exception to this inevitable doom however. Dogs. They consume tainted flesh with ease and are more than capable of detecting the taint of Nasu and the severity.

Avoidance is recommended naturally, but the advice to avoid carrying corpses alone protects only from her favorite activity. Nasu's pollution carries on the winds, in the form of contagions, withering auras with which she can effortlessly encircle the globe and then some, and even casual contact.
Tropes
  • Blue-and-Orange Morality: Ask Nasu about her activities. Let her tell you how no one complains when a man enjoys a chip or takes a bite of an apple. She just does the same, showing the chef just how much she loves its creation. Besides, it always makes more.
  • Cross-Melting Aura / Fight Off the Kryptonite: Adar will harm Nasu, but she profanes the flames by contact, and even being wreathed in holy fire will not put her down. Similarly, she loathes dogs for their role in purifying her influence, but even then she's practical enough to shoot them, and while they can attack her without backlash from her taint, she isn't particularly weakened by their presence.
  • The Dreaded: Entire traditions of funerary rites are built around avoiding her attentions.
  • Ghostly Chill: Like her siblings, Nasu is very cold to the touch; although if you find this out by experience, You Are Already Dead or really wishing that you were.
  • Human Resources: Uses parts of dead humans for all manner of things. Nasu owns at least one floating hand which constantly massages her back.
  • Self-Constructed Being: Nasu is ever Body Surfing, and tends to make conglomerations of parts she finds, even being choosy between individual teeth from millions of corpses.
  • Swiss-Army Superpower: Nasu's control over over pollution and contamination, and in her case, the taint is very much the main effect, bringing anything so tainted within her domain.
    • Master of Your Domain: Of course.
      • Sizeshifter: Growing to gargantuan size is one of her favorite tricks—particularly as an entrance.
    • The Assimilator: Nasu is more than capable of extracting the traits of those she has recently felled or even the freshly dead.
      • Adaptive Ability: A rather conscious variant, in that she certainly has something to perfectly counter the threat of the moment, but has to find and wear it herself.
    • Mind Manipulation: Nasu's contamination is hardly just a physical threat, which leads us to...
      • Demonic Possession: When she decides to cut out the middle man and take a body herself, Nasu needs no permission, and, in her simplest jobs simply kills her new host on contact, claiming its corpse.
    • Mind over Matter: At least mind over filth and polluted matter
    • Power Nullifier: A rather mild taint by Nasu's standard, but she can rot and ruin an adversary's power as well as their body and soul at large.

     Areshko
One of Matten's big brothers, and envy is in his very name. He's a rather melancholy individual, constantly regretting not having what passes his fancy—and never being satisfied when he has it. He makes pleasant company for a moment, until something else acquires his attention. The daeva never takes compliments well and fears making his every move for it is never good enough.

Of course, Areshko is very much equipped to do something about his constant feelings of inadequacy, borrowing the everything of others. In both battle and daily life, he stands nervously in the background and has a crippling fear of inadequacy...and so is well motivated to practice his craft. Perhaps, Areshko would not even be satisfied if he took Ahura Mazda himself.
Tropes
  • Blue-and-Orange Morality: Ask Areshko about his activities. He'd tell you that he's making things better, by making himself better. This is a constant process.
  • Ghostly Chill: Averted. Thanks to the results of his monstrous envy, Areshko is one of the few daeva who is not necessarily freezing to the touch.
  • Human Resources: Areshko wants someone's life, body, powers, memories, history...It all doesn't leave much room for the victim.
  • Power Copying with a side of You Will Be Assimilated: Areshko spends every waking moment looking for the next life to make himself a better thing. He's picked up plenty of powers on the way and cycles through them (and identities and bodies) at will..
  • Master of Your Domain: Of course. One way to identify Areshko is the constantly shifting bits on his body. Nothing is ever good enough.
  • Adaptive Ability: Another conscious variant, in that Areshko has been around enough to have something for every occasion. Its never enough, and the ones that he's collected are just not quite good enough...
  • Mind Manipulation: Beyond absorbing the memories and skills of those he takes, Areshko's aura has a depressant-like effect on those around him. Unlike Matten and Nasu, his aura does not cause constant physical destruction. People just have a tendency to commit suicide after too much time around him—and act like drunken idiots in the short term.
  • Demonic Possession: One way for Areshko to acquire a new life and identity. Though far more often, he'll just eat the victim.

     Mazandaran
  • Potential
    • Inherent Powers:
      • The land itself (and even the cities) are places of almost glamouring beauty note . That said, the directions...take some getting used to. A good (and benevolent) guide could get a group through the realm and back in a matter of hours. Māzandarān does not lack for modern transportation in addition to the portal network. An unwary traveler may take a step in and out and find himself 1000 years and 100 kilometers from his starting position or spend centuries lost in the place only to return to his fellows, who've aged only minutes. One shouldn't have too much trouble staying on the beaten path. There are maps. (They do trade with the world after all).
      • The population...well to start with, they take a special joy in blinding those intruding and not invited to the realm. They are daeva and human mostly (with migrants over the ages). The realm shares a special untouchability to the ways of mankind. Deities avoid the place, leaving it to the lost and the damned, only aiding the greatest adventurers for the most worthy purposes to penetrate sheer volume and power of the arts at work there. The daeva are well, daeva, sharing a fraction of Aka Manah's antigodly powers of druj and uncreation. The others among the populace are granted fractions of that power or import their own arts to the realms. They certainly do not all share a specific hat, but they all share a place past a certain base power, or else they wouldn't be living and free. Still, to any who dares go, Māzandarān has much in the ways of libraries and potential teachers in all types of works.
    • Inherent Weaknesses: The people of Māzandarān are certainly not of one mind. And even the most fearsome of their paramount chiefs can only keep them in one purpose for so long. Aka Manah is also inferior to Vohu Manah (a 'spark' of Ahura Mazda) and can hardly impede a traveler under Vohu Manah's protection for long.
    • Skills: Māzandarān is still a realm with cities and the like. They're awfully good at producing quality capital goods, and they tend to boast about completely clear skies while they do. (It's true. Magitek has given them an edge in green tech). The realm also has more than its share of knowledge brokers. And, on the rare occasions they are truly united, they form into an armed force and home front that devastates opponents. No force has ever truly conquered the realm, and even great Rostam only managed to free his home's army and extract some tribute. Many fear that Aži Dahāka is preparing for the day when he can lead the united realm out to scour the realms beyond—which already reel from the comparatively micro campaigns of border magnates and evil adventurers.
    • Equipment: Standard first-world material goods—albeit with some magitek twists.
  • Appearance: To hear such diverse characters as Matten and Aži Dahāka describe it, Māzandarān is a place of beauty of rolling hills and bountiful plains and tending shepherds and 1000 polished cities of fine architecture, protected from the realms partly by walls of stone and largely by only partly being situated in the same dimension as Earth. It's even sweet-smelling. The realm does look like its shrouded in an endless partial eclipse though, with somewhat dim sunlight.
  • Governance and Culture:
    • General: Māzandarān is a direct democracynote . It's consistent in its behavior, but details can change whenever a different group of voters show up. Aži Dahāka is the paramount chief, but he's but one of ten, and has to go through annual re-election bids—and still is basically carrying out assembly policy anyway. (Even if most of the time he can convince them to go with his plan).
    • Specific: The people of Māzandarān are, for the most part, uninterested in the cosmic conflict.note . The exceptions are the paramount chiefs who spout about fighting the good fight, but...note  The civilian population is mostly focused on paying bills, the latest movies out, and keeping up with the Joneses. It just so happens that that includes work on their various experiments, which often require human 'volunteers' and their indulgences, like excessive violence, unfettered wanderlusts, and shameless manipulations. While technically united, a constant low-level strife permeates the land as each tries to one up the other or have fun at the expense of the others. Status matters a fair bit, and with shifting alliances and power up for grabs, people can rocket tot the top and enjoy all the perks of chiefdom and hit rock bottom in an instant.

  • Identity: Man-At-Arms, Superhero, real name romanized as Chikliktacharrgaharg - Tacharr.
  • Abilities:
    • Man-At-Arms is an alien emissary from aliens that have decided to be referred to as "Chackers" in English. They are big bugs with hardened carapaces and horrible feeder mouths and six fingers on each of their six limbs. While only as strong as a human, Chackers are extremely well-coordinated and can walk or manipulate objects with any or all of their appendages with equal ability. Their mouths are complex and precise and can speak most languages just fine, but their own language is impossible with human mouthparts.
    • A long history of honorable combat and biased weapons technology means that melee weapons never went all the way out of style with the Chackers, and Man-At-Arms is an exemplar—while you did... basically everything, he studied the blade, and this was before fighting with various melee weapons for approximately 2,000 years. This has not actually improved his knowledge of history or courtly heraldry because so much of his own work was on the person-to-person level, even on the battlefield. He could do a great impression of Charlemagne but couldn't tell you what year he died or what decrees he specifically signed.
    • While he isn't immortal, Man-At-Arms has undergone gene therapy so as to halt his aging.
    • Tacharr owns at least one edged weapon from nearly every "great civilization" after about the ninth century. He has neither the strength nor the inclination to carry more than six at a time, though. None of them are high-tech monomolecular blades or anything, but they are maintained with modern technology so as to at least not be trash. He has a similar but significantly smaller collection of armors and shields of various ancient ages, gussied up with modern metals and treatments to be able to withstand bullets.
    • Tacharr still lives in his old ship. It can't fly anymore but the metals are light enough for him to load it into one of those Oversize Load trucks and move it places. It can't fly and at present just sort of resembles a nice minimalist apartment with a pool out front sitting in the middle of a lot a tiny bit too big for it that makes it look distinctly out of place.
  • Appearance: Tacharr is a big blue bug. He has a pair of large dark eyes with no whites to them and antennas that extend about six inches off his head. His body is hard and covered in an angular chitin that forms into the interlocking plates of a hard exoskeleton. He stands about six feet even, though only because he hunches and stands with bent "knees;" if he fully extends, Tacharr can gain another foot in height. All of his limbs are strong limbs that can be used interchangeably as arms or legs, each with six fingers at the end. He prefers to dress in antiquated fashions with his mouth deliberately obscured when not in armor, but that is rare.
  • Personality: Even after millenia, Tacharr is still doggedly insistent on the virtue and possibility of the Chackers' mission, and of humanity's destiny. He loves seeing great people take positions of leadership and naturally gravitates towards trying to be a loyal and encouraging second to people with strong personalities. He gets irrationally angry and aggressive towards people that would disrupt such an orderly society or who would deny the power they have in favor of the common folk that they protect, and if he thinks a person or group is a threat to Chacker culture he has little patience before the blades come out.
  • Background: Man-At-Arms is a member of a fairly common tactical front plenty of states have developed throughout history—a heroic savior who intervenes when the moment is most dire in order to support the elements of a particular less-developed society that would be most hospitable to an incoming force. In his case, the Chackers are an extremely top-down caste-based oligarchy attempting to make Earth as similar to their own oligarchy as possible. The problem is their technology: Chackers can transport big things small distances, or they can transport little things big distances. In order to prep the Earth for the Chackers' true ambassador fleet, they sent Man-At-Arms down first—their chosen small thing as the big things made their way over. Man-At-Arms landed in France in the year 790, and immediately set out to do all that he could. In armor, or at least masks, he managed to disguise himself among the locals and pass as an Angel of some kind, and rode into battle alongside Charlemagne himself; he in fact still possesses the documentation marking him as a Man-At-Arms to Charlemagne and his lineage. However, it ended as it always did: collapse. Time and again Tacharr, or more simply the Man-At-Arms, wandered the world, attached himself to the coattails and sword-arms of great people he thought could raise up great civilizations and found the top-down society that was his objective, and then witnessed inevitable declines and collapses. He has spent the last hundred years or so in America, attempting to do the same by defending a status quo that is far more top-down than all but the most wokedangerous people think as a real-ass Superhero, the latest incarnation of a kind of person he's been seeing for centuries. Wherever he goes, police officers and the powerful elite shake his many hands as he kicks asses (or slices them off) in the name of a greater society ready for friendship with the Chackers. He has only a century left before they arrive. Probably less.

Acceptamundo'd.

And throwing this here for lulz:

The Game Master

  • Identity: 'Kage', ???, Private Identity?
  • Abilities:
    • Author Avatar: He claims to be capable of anything, as the 'Prime Author and Moderator of Reality'. This hasn't been proven wrong, so far. He's aware of everything and anything. He claims all of existence is like a metaphysical chessmatch, to which he is the supercomputer that can't be beat.
  • Appearance: Usually appears as a floating square with the letters 'GM' in it, though he can theoretically appear as anything. Always incredibly handsome, regardless of form.
  • Personality: A nice guy, though a bit lazy. Doesn't take a direct hand in things, but occasionally steps in to, as he says, 'handwave and retcon things'.
  • Background: Unknown. Claims to be a millionaire who invented Google. This is probably not true.

What is so amusing about this? Why do you take lives? How can you forget?

  • Identity:
    • Hero/Villain Name: Retribution
    • Status: Anti-Villain/Anti-Hero note
    • Private/Public Identity: Berezata Bagavira
  • Abilities:
    • Powers As a yazata, Berezata commands all manner of divine powers associated with his station.
      • Holy Body: Berezata requires no sustenance, knows no disease, and moves without tiring, and is further capable of great feats of strength form tanking artillery barrages to crushing iron in his hands and tossing trucks through the air. He's not much more agile than the human average, but can outmaneuver foes by flight and teleportation.
      • Possession: Berezata has a body of his own, but can take the bodies of humans (multiple humans) and has the concentration to act through dozens of hosts simultaneously. Berezata's possession has multiple stages. At its least advanced, tis 'simple' mental domination, which he usually uses to 'cleanse the souls' of the guilty and reconstruct them for the better. Permission he needs not and rarely takes before filling a target's mind and soul with burning light, judging it for himself, and reforging the soul to his liking. He only inhabits bodies outright when his own is destroyed.
      • Evocation: Berezata can call upon the power of any soul whose body either feels the heat of his fire or reflects it light. He can seal the powers of any so afflicted as well; though this requires time and preparations are obvious-the seal visibly spreads across the target's body—and leaves the target locked-in as well as paralyzed until the yazata releases them.
      • Invocation: In addition, the yazata can grant his powers to any soul he's currently possessing or whose body either feels the heat of his fire or reflects it light. Furthermore, any fire in his presence becomes an atar.
      • True Khvarenah: The source of every power listed, and medium for any spellcraft... Berezata's mere presence physically heals those nearby note , albeit this isn't necessarily helpful when he's battering someone. (Whether the psychic damage he inflicts heals is up to him). Injuring him will release burning light from the wound. Beyond the passive effects of his aura, the yazata can use his piece of the true Khvarenah to connect to the wider world for anything from clairvoyance to rituals and teleporting in flashes of light.
      • Senses: Berezata's dominant senses are visual, but he sees much more than the human range, including: the aura/residue of the souls of people, including the presence of say, divine (or fiendish) patrons clinging to their clients and, he also sees entreaties directed at him in the form of that same aura residue.
    • Weaknesses
      • Berezata's attacks are highly telegraphed, each involving burning light that one can hardly miss. Even a stealthy approach is impossible for him, as he has a very visible light aura.
      • Befitting his station, the yazata quite literally cannot lie.
    • Skills: Berezata knows every language that has ever existed, both written and spoken, and, as a yazata further instantly perceives lies (of all kinds).
    • Equipment: Holy Sword (constantly aflame with the atar) and chain
  • Appearance: Berezata nearly always appears in a long tunic, covering everything, no matter the weather or occasion. The main thing that changes is whether there's visible (if pointless) bronze armor over the torso. Otherwise, he has a very youthful face, with rather long, brown hair and only slightly lighter skin.
  • Personality: Berezata spends his time performing acts of charity and goes out of his way to help with about any crisis, no matter how small (and no matter how unwanted. Anyone who complains will feel happier about things soon enough). The yazata appreciates worship, but is most concerned with ending the worship of evil wills and furthering the end of evil deeds. He is almost sickening in his optimism and sweet demeanor (to non-evil-doers), giving genuine agape love to anything (pure and good). But he's still a dutiful yazata who smites evil without mercy. Berezata can turn on a dime if his company even idealizes committing an evil act, leaving his target well happy and perfectly harmless to himself and others.
  • Background: Berezata's powers are inherent to him as a yazata. He is rather a younger yazata though, as he has no aspect and was born after human history had began. That hardly slows him down though. He has ambitions on becoming the yazata aspect of 'justice' and eventually being the one who leads the charge against Angra Mainyu's forces of uncreation and purging them from the world while guarding his own brand of justice in the renovated world. Accordingly, Berezata is 'in costume' constantly.

  • Identity: Hohoemi, Chaotic Neutral, public identity.
  • Powers:
    • Shapeshifting: One of the most commonly shared Yōkai abilities, Hohoemi has the ability to shift into several forms, including a large, fork tailed cat around the size of a cougar that has the ability to walk upright, a geisha girl that plays a shamisen and sings a mournful song about cats (a mocking irony on Hohoemi's part as the shamisen is made up of cat skin) and a humanoid version of his big cat form, which is the one he uses the most. He can also transform into a plain domesticated cat for more subtle purposes, which also may have a split tail and a bipedal stance at times.
    • Necromancy: By performing a ritualistic dance, Hohoemi can reanimate any corpses in his immediate vicinity into a zombie-like state, to which they will follow his will. If he is in one of his cat forms, the ritual is more effective, however it can work in no matter what he is shapeshifted into. Hohoemi also can resurrect himself a total of nine times, much like the widely known urban myth claims. He also has the ability to permanently rejuvenate and revive the dead, which involves a much longer ritual and the sacrifice of one of his previously mentioned lives in the process.
    • Ghost-Light Generation: Much like the kitsune, Hohoemi has the ability to produce phantom flames from the tips of his tail, his mouth, and his hands. Unlike kitsunebi, however, these flames are more corporeal, and behave more like that of physical fire with the exception of it being much hotter and more difficult to extinguish. Another differentiation is its eerie yellowish-green tinge. Hohoemi uses this ability offensively only in dire situations, otherwise only using it to light his way to any hidden areas he has discovered and wishes to go back to.
    • Feline Physiology: As a nekomata, a cat yōkai, Hohoemi carries the common abilities associated with felines in all his forms, involving a natural predatory instinct, enhanced flexibility and agility, retractable claws, exceptional balance, and night vision.
  • Skills:
    • Musically Inclined: Hohoemi is a gifted music artist, with a voice of exceptional range note  and a pitch-perfect instinct, able to pick up and play most if not all instruments he can come across. He is most gifted with the shamisen, however, and so rarely focuses on anything else.
  • Equipment:
  • Appearance:
  • Personality: Hohoemi is instantly identifiable as unstable, possessing a mad glint in his eye and a near constant wide smile that just promises trouble wherever he goes. He also has a bad habit of hanging around graveyards and digging up the corpses to feast upon, which isn't very nice of him. Over time, the nekomata has become an absolute charmer to most people, with a great sense of irony and a smooth, manipulative manner of speech, topped by an exceptional singing voice. This thin veil of sanity does have its limits, however, and Hohoemi can find himself slipping into an uncontrollable cackle in intense situations, especially if his necromancy is involved, and may become overly reckless and chaotic the longer a battle lasts. Hohoemi's cannibalism also tends to spring up at unfortunate times, and he may end up sporadically wandering off in order to feed himself. He is intelligent enough to know when to fight and when to run, and doesn't care if he has to do a cowardly action to save his skin.
  • Background: Born in the Yōkai Realm to a long-lasting family that included bakaneko and nekomata alike, Hohoemi was troublesome from the get-go, developing an-at-the-time adorable mad cackle as soon as his tiny kitten form could speak. Over time, the insane nekomata gained a reputation for his instability and urge to get out of his own realm, claiming to have a "thirst" that needed to be quenched. Hohoemi didn't manage to get out until he was matured, and so filled the time in by studying the human realm (most worryingly details on corpses that even other necromancer yōkai wouldn't focus on) developing his naturally large singing range, and learning to play multiple instruments, gradually creating a façade of sanity amongst his community. Assuming that he had grown out of a phase, Hogo, the Yōkai Realm's gatekeeper, grudgingly let him out earlier, only to immediately regret his decision when the fork-tailed cat began a reign of chaos over the next few hundred years, involving several vanishing of bodies in cemeteries and rumours of a beautiful singing geisha that lured unsuspecting innocents up the mountains of Japan with her music, only to be replaced by a monstrous twin tailed feline, killing them and devouring their corpses. The cat proved to be too slippery, and the yōkai eventually gave up all hope of catching him, letting him continue his savagery. Hohoemi has indeed mellowed out a little with age, but his lust for consuming the dead hasn't dwindled at all, and so the bakaneko now find himself in Easton City, just in time for the game. How marvellous.

Name: Maelstrom

Alignment: Villain

Race: Storm Elemental

Gender: Male

Appearance: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/27232772726576470/

Personality: Perhaps stereotypically, Maelstrom is impulsive and reckless. But unlike most people, he has the raw power to back it up. He is also a strong believer in his cause, and works tirelessly to liberate mutants and people he believes to be oppressed. All of this would be well and good, save for the fact that he’s a necromancer and a lightning elemental, and cares little for human law- instead following his own version of morality.

Powers:

-Lightning Necromancy: Maelstrom can strike nearby corpses with a lightning bolt, causing the flesh to sear from their bones as the electricity animates them. These skeletons are stronger than your average undead minion, and wield weapons of pure lightning- however, Maelstrom can’t have more than two to three skeleton guards active at one time. Maelstrom’s undead minions are also surprisingly fast and tough for skeletons, in fact.

-Shock and Awe: Controlling the power of the storm, Maelstrom can hurl searing blasts of lightning from his hands, and manipulate powerful gusts of wind to hurl enemies and objects not cemented to the ground.

-Power of the Storm: The power of the storm is an ancient and primal one, and it doesn’t mesh well with modern technology. In a forty-foot area around Maelstrom, less-complex machinery ceases to function completely, and even more complex machines tend to malfunction. While not in human form, Maelstrom is also extremely strong and fast, roughly on the level of a cyborg or super-powered human. Normal, mundane weapons also seem to pass through him, as he doesn’t have a physical body.

Weaknesses:

-Water: As might be expected, water can disorient and even take Maelstrom out of his natural form. Although it isn’t enough to kill him, great quantities of water can force Maelstrom to retreat and flee, or at the very least reduce his abilities.

Background:

Little is actually known about Maelstrom, as he seems to be a relative newcomer to Easton. A member of the Order of the Dark Element, he seems to seek to carve out a government for elementals like him, as well as people with powers that seem to separate them from the general population. Amongst his species, he seems to be a particularly powerful elemental, as much elementals can’t level buildings with wind.

Identity: The Ringleader

Alignment: Villain/Neutral.

Powers & Abilities:

  • The Show Must Go On: Although the Ringleader is the closest thing to an 'avatar' of his Virtuous Troupe, even his destruction cannot remove them; to dislodge the Troupe from a location, one must destroy the delightfully cliche heart within the backstage of the Big Top, in the carnival the Troupe arrives in.
  • Rehearsal: Whenever the Ringleader 'performs' with someone (a vague term which covers most actions, but usually devolves to combat sooner or later), he gains some understanding into the general capabilities of the other 'actors', as well as some amount of insight into how to talk, move, and fight to best prolongue the encounter for dramatic effect.
  • Bask in the Limelight: The Ringleader's abilities become more potent as more people pay attention to the show he's putting on. Although there is always an audience in the Virtue of Entertainment, providing him with a baseline, his potential rapidly increases as he performs in more public venues.
  • Showstopper: Much like a mix of every performer, the Ringleader is capable of perfectly executing feats of acrobatics, strength, sleight of hand, and occasionally outright 'magic tricks' (such as his favourite, whirling his cape around him and disappearing, reappearing elsewhere). In addition to this, he can bring out members of his Troupe at any moment, so long as they have a suitably dramatic entrance.

Weaknesses:

  • Respect the Dance: Although the Ringleader's skills and insight can compensate for opponents not willing to go along with his show, it is in his nature to assume they are as willing actors as himself. He will (and generally must) hold back, allowing them to perform as much as he does, until they disrupt the show (by attacking him while he's bowing, interrupting his flourishes and taunts, or really anything that would otherwise make them genre savvy).

Description: The Ringleader has been slightly twisted by the whole Virtue thing.

Personality: Always acting as if he's on stage (because in his mind, he knows he is), the Ringleader always seems to be performing for an audience, regardless of whether or not there's one present. Theatrical and always speaking in the most melodramatic tone of voice, he hopes for the best performance from others, but understands that some are new; his expectations are more tempered, only involving them giving everything they've got to the show.

Background:

The Ringleader is what those who study the Virtues refer to as a 'husk', a human that's been 'hollowed out' and filled with the same singlemindedness as the Virtue they serve. This commonly occurs with those who wield artifacts of the Virtues, and no host has ever avoided becoming one.

Now in charge of the Virtuous Troupe, an eternal carnival of sorts that disappears and appears overnight seemingly at random, the Ringleader exists to propagate the realm of the Virtue of Entertainment.

Wherever his Troupe appears, those who seek joy in their lives are attracted to the carnival, where they will stay for a very, very long time, as part of the eternal audience in the Big Top, one of the people riding the various attractions, or even a new member of the undying Troupe. No matter which fate they are stuck with, their minds slowly hollow out, and they become unable to experience anything besides giddy glee at the carnival, which never quite seems to run out of room.

EDIT EDIT: To conserve posts, I'm going to use this post as a repository for all my characters.

EDIT: For the 'jailbreak' mini-arc.

Golem

  • Identity: Ezekiel 'Zeke' Irons, Anti-Hero, Public Identity
  • Abilities:
    • Superhuman: Zeke is living metal, and as such does not need food, air, water, or sleep. He possesses superhuman strength and durability, and can jump quite high as a result, though he can't actually move faster than a human - being heavy metal does not help one's mobility. He also doesn't feel pain.
    • Metallokinesis: Zeke controls any metal that is touching his body. Usually he just eats it, as he enjoys the sensation of chewing, but he can simply absorb or manipulate it through touch. Anything with metallic bonds falls under his grasp, and he can reshape it at will. He usually uses this to make weapons or shields. Or entire walls, if he's so inclined.
    • Core: An iron ball inscribed with hebrew writings. This serves as both his heart and mind. As long as it's intact, he can repair himself. He can even reforge a new body, provided enough metal. While he isn't 'conscious' without a body, his body doesn't have to be humanoid - as long as his core is touching a big enough metal supply, he'll regain consciousness.
  • Appearance: A man made of metal. His skin is made of bronze, his hair of copper, though he can change the metals that comprise him on a whim.
  • Personality: Cold and quiet, a lonely being. While he doesn't talk much or care for most people, he is proud of his job and adamantly protects the facility. He won't be bullied or bribed into letting anyone escape.
  • Background: A homunculus created by a cabal of witches to act as a familiar. He thought his former mistress was cruel, and hated her. In truth, she didn't think of him as a person, but as a thing, a statue made solely to do her bidding. The mutual disrespect between them grew, and eventually, Zeke despised her so much he killed her in her sleep. After one of her sisters found her corpse the next day, the police arrived to arrest him. He hadn't tried to run - to him, he'd done nothing wrong. Given that he wasn't human and didn't understand right from wrong, a bargain was made. Zeke would be allowed to patrol the Super Wing of the Easton Federal Correction Institute, as its one and only living guard. He accepted this duty, and as the Warden of the EFCI was much kinder than his old master, Zeke now takes pride in what he does, for the first time in his life.

TTT

  • Identity: Thomas Tyler Truman, Mayor of Easton, Public Identity
  • Abilities:
    • Super Charisma: People hang off of his every word. He is immensely popular, and he can change the hearts of the people with his speeches. Well, so he'll tell you. In truth, about 30-35% of people can resist this ability with a little mental effort, and about 10% of people are flat out immune. That's not enough to lose an elections, however, so TTT will likely be Mayor for the foreseeable future. Incidentally, he's a very good liar.
  • Appearance: A relatively handsome older man, usually seen in a suit. His hair and beard have gone grey with age.
  • Personality: Being a career politician has made him very good at talking to and convincing people, as well as a shrewd negotiator. He's willing to go under-the-table and work with villains if he feels it would be good for the city, but he genuinely thinks himself a good person at heart, and will defend Easton with his dying breath.
  • Background: Born to poor parents in a poor neighborhood, Thomas studied hard, learned how to talk fast, and discovered that his smooth talk was, in fact, superhumanly smooth. Though initially a lesser city council member, he rose through the ranks and became mayor. Thomas was first elected mayor 25 years ago and has held the position ever since.

Organization - New Elanun:

Alignment: Villains

Backstory: Once there was a land of magic with the name Elanun, located below Indian Peninsula. However, it got destroyed as a result of a bloody conflict between Royalists and Lainists, which concluded with the total destruction of the land.

Survivors of the disaster have scattered across the world. Some hid their magical presence from humans, accepting their fate, while other have denied it, fighting against the whole world, driven by their undying pride.

Mier Yurk was once such man. He used to be a simple peasant in his homeland, but in the outside world, he was god among men. This pride drove him to rebuild Elanun, where he was the monarch. For that, he gathered magical beings, lying to them that they were fighting for the greater good, when all they were doing was paving way for his ambition.

Organization called New Elanun has remained elusive for years, so nobody knows what their current whereabouts are. Those that know of it, however, are aware that Mier is now dead... and a new leader has new goals.

Type of Mooks: Mummies, vampires, mages, zombies etc. To be changed.

Members: To be filled.

  • Identity: Rick Cannelle, Status: Villain, Lieutenant Force
  • Abilities:
    • The Living Bomb: While not at the high level Ryan is (a point of contention between the two), Rick has the same kind of powers, fundamentally, being able to emit energy, radiation, and heat.
    • Reinforced and Amplified Body: His nuclear powers naturally fortify his body - again, much the same as Ryan. However, unlike Ryan, Rick's powers let him further amplify the force he is capable of exerting using his energy - he can turn a simple swipe of his hand into a scything wave of air.
    • Military Training: Before the...problem...happened, he was an actual lieutenant in the armed forces. As such, he has relevant capabilities in terms of his survival, basic combat, deployment and planning.
    • Solar Flare: One application of his power he has that Ryan doesn't is his solar flare. By emitting a specialized form of radiation, he can basically perform an EMP attack on an entire building, taking out radio, communications, and so on.
    • '''"Lucky" Standard M9 Pistol: He kept this around since what got him in trouble - purely as a keepsake, though it is still loaded.
    • Energy Form: While not capable of the voluntary great explosions Ryan is, he is technically able to turn into energy and reform later. As long as the reforming process isn't interrupted, he technically is very difficult to kill, due to more practice with this application of his powers.
  • Appearance: He started off, when he and Ryan went to school together, as a spindly sand blond nerdy guy, though his time in the military did make him stronger if even visibly more neurotic. He has a slightly muscular build now, his hair having apparently grown out from standard issue crew cut into something a little less orderly. He still wears his military jacket over a white shirt and jeans. His villainous form sees him covered in dark red energy that functions basically as armor of a sort.
  • Personality: An old friend of Ryan's from school, while Ryan was granted great power, Rick had to watch his dear old friend drift away slowly but surely, while Rick dealt with ever worse bullying. And boy oh boy there is a lot of bitterness there. Rick is basically an embittered nerd who joined the army to try to make less of a target out of himself. What ended up happening during deployment was his development into a particularly survival crazed example of a Sociopathic Soldier. He had a notoriously eager hand at his gun during his army days, and apparently something happened involving a local woman and her child - all the military brass say is "it was terrible". And as a result, he volunteered for The Hazard Project to get out of punishment. The process of becoming Lieutenant Force broke him even worse, convinced now he had powers he could finally hit back, harder than he ever got hit before. He's still a notoriously twitchy guy. His old problems have not exactly gone away either - before the army, he was a sex obsessed "weirdo", prone to living vicariously through his fantasies. He has a pronounced right wing streak, but with him, survival > politics.
  • Background: Ryan Brady and his childhood friend Rick Cannelle were extremely close throughout elementary and middle school - Rick was always in a higher grade, and despite being weaker always stuck up for Ryan. But while Ryan ended up becoming a hero during his empowerment, drifting further and further away, Rick ended up going through a lot during high school. He was the subject of an extremely mean Carrie-style prank, and joined the Army a year or so after high school ended. He rose up through the ranks, but his experiences in the Army left him unbalanced. It all led up to a vile incident where he was due to be court marshalled, possibly to go away for life...until a kindly old doctor spoke to him of an attempt to imitate Dr. Brady's research into the Atomic Hazard armor. If he volunteered, all charges would be dropped, and he would be honorably discharged. He accepted, quickly. Rick ended up given similar powers, but due to the exact research not being present, his powers were not as strong - a severe point of contention and irritation. When Rick left the military however he made a point of going around, basically hiring out his services as a guard, enforcer and rumored executioner to high level businessmen, government personae, generals and others. After all, he claims, he's just too happy to serve his country.

  • Identity: Kem Mamnoon Khaldoon, Wen Kamuy
  • Abilities: Kem is a demigod with the blood of a Kamuy—a bear and a god. She pings as resonant with the divine energies of the pagan Kamuy, and can call upon this energy to transform into one of the Ussuri brown bears of Hokkaido. Transformed as such she is about 2.5 meters tall and around 360 kg. The strength of a Hokkaidoan brown bear is sufficient to easily lift in the thousands of pounds and strike in the hundreds, and her bones are immune to all but the most serious hardware. Even slicing through her is difficult with all that fat and sinew. She also functions on Animorphs rules, basically—because she is invoking the divine form of a bear, when she transforms she is specifically turning into the same bear every time, meaning if she can turn human again and get the time she needs to rest and shift back her injuries won't maintain between any of those shifts.
  • Appearance: Kem is about 5'8 and weighs around 175 pounds.
  • Personality: Kem always second-guesses people. She's a senior in High School, and she knows the shit people pull. She's aware of the immediate response she has to things, and pushes herself to try to be critical of things. This often backfires into a deep cynicism and a lack of emotional earnesty though—a classic Moody Teen, even if she's not even a Teen for much longer.
  • Background: Kem's family on her mother's side are Ainu people who long ago made a pact with a Kamuy, their people's gods, to gain the power to fight for their people. For centuries, for the most part, this manifested as a general predisposition towards shit-stirring and ass-kicking, but nothing overtly supernatural—they never faced something a normal human couldn't handle. Kem's mother Asirpa fell in love with her father, Mamnoon Khaldoon, out of their mutual crusades for justice; he fought for Palestine as she did for the Ainu. Their daughter, Kem, wasn't particularly interested in either agenda. She grew up feeling alienated from both halves of her family, and like so many other Millenials she saw the problems her parents were slamming into and didn't think she could do anything about it. So, instead, she put her head down and focused on what was immediately around her... for equal mediocre success. She got into soccer and at least got some play as a large athletic girl, but didn't really get friends exactly, not having the personality for it, and also not being white, that certainly didn't help there. She has, nevertheless, stuck it out, and she has gone to her senior prom at Klutzberg HS, having never awakened to her powers.

Name: The Siren, Echo Tragoudi. Status: hero, high school student Appearance: Average height, long brunette hair tied up in a high ponytail with a scrunchie. She wears a sleeveless red tartan shirt that buttons up down the middle, black leggings and black heeled boots. As Siren, her hair is in two pigtails that stick out of the top of her head, resembling the stalks of a quaver. She retains the black leggings and heeled boots, but wears a black dress with a large skirt that goes down to her knees but poofs out alot. It also has red tartan ornamentation on it and a large waist bow with ribbons. On her head, she wears a red fedora in both forms. She is of white ethnicity and has blue/green eyes.

Powers:

  • Siren's song:
Her singing has the ability to influence people. Her songs can induce happiness, sadness, anger and even sleep. She can calm rage and also give someone a Theme Song Powerup with her music.
  • earworm curse
She can curse her foes with a curse that causes them to constantly hear an annoying song in their head. It wears off after quite a long time or if she removes it personally. It can serve as a useful distraction or act as an offensive tactic.

  • step in time
Siren can perform a compelling dance that causes nearby things to gain an overwhelming urge to dance along with her. It can be surprisingly off putting.

  • Sonic manipulation
Siren can emit sonic waves at varying amplitudes and frequencys. It has various uses ranging from Sonic Stunner to shattering glass. A favourite prank of hers is to emit a frequency similar to that other e stomach, causing nausea in those affected. She can also manipulate sound caused by others. Uses can range from making radios sound strange to preventing someone making any noise when they speak.

  • charm person
Even as just a civillian, she has a natural charm about her. People are drawn to her somehow.

  • charm resistance
She has developed a relatively strong resistance to her own charm, and other's too.

Weaknesses:

  • Echo can only access the full extent of her power when transformed. When she is not transformed, her charm and her singing have only about 30-50% of the affect they have while transformed.

  • Echo occasionally (but rarely) falls victim to her own charm and acts rather narcissistic.

  • Since quite alot of her power comes from her voice, things like colds and coughs can be majorly de powering.

Equipment:
Her staff, which resembles a golden retro mic on a stand with long ribbons with a music stave design, which serves as a Transformation Trinket and also can be used as a mic or to cast sonic waves.

Personality:
Echo is energetic and bubbly, with a few overdramatic tendencys. She loves to perform in front of others and loves a good party. She rarely falls victim to her own charm but when she does she can become an annoying narcissistic diva. People who do not know about her powers just blame it on a teenage moodswing.

Backstory: Echo is a muse (of music) , closely related to the muses sirens of ancient greece, which is where she got the name idea from. She led a relatively normal life on a farm on the outskirts of Easton with her parents. Her parents are also muses. She knows most of her ancestors very well as they are still alive today. When she became a teenager, she decided to go a different route from the rest of her family and decided she wanted to go to a public school instead of being educated at home. She also decided to become a superhero and have a more modern aplroach to her powers. She used the gold retro mic as a way to contain and channel her powers as her parents said they would only let her go to a public school if she did so. Her parents are loving but can be overprotective. She is currently atyending Kutzburg high. (sorry if I spelt that wrong)

Backstory character, may be used at a later date though.

  • Identity: Rok'n Anok, Villain, Public Identity.
  • Abilities:
    • Hardlight Generation: Due to his Kaydenite biology, Rok'n has eight hollow organs inside his abdominal region. By focusing his body's electrical potential (the organs are lined with a type of supercharged pacemaker cell) to these organs, Rok'n can generate a malleable plasma-like substance and direct it to different areas of his body through his veins, or even expel it out of his skin in the form of plasma shots (if he releases it) or constructs (if he holds it). The plasma shots can be either highly dense and fast, inflicting massive damage, or blindingly bright and low mass, usually used for slow-moving distractions with effects similar to flares or flashbangs. The constructs include weaponry of varying designs, usually axes out of preference, half-bubble shields that are generated from the forearms, and a few other miscellaneous weapons. His most notable and dangerous technique, however, is the Hardlight Copy technique, a bastardized version of which was improvised by Rine. To use the technique to its full potential, it requires over six organs, and is even then incredibly taxing. With it, however, Rok'n can create an army of up to 50 duplicates of himself, although he can change their appearance and size if necessary. Unlike Rine's copies, Rok'n's can develop identities and exist without his influence.
    • Glottal Warblers: A set of four to eight gill-like slits situated just behind the jawline and below the ears on either side of the neck. These slits are nigh-invisible when closed, appearing at most like a set of light scars, however once a Kaydenite (especially an Aentolian one) starts to talk in their native tongue the warblers open up and begin to... well, warble. The purpose of the warblers is to allow Kaydenites to access a collection of guttural, screeching, and howling vocal sounds, used mostly to pronounce certain words in their languages correctly (Rok'n is an Aentolian Kaydenite, and the Aentolian language has a heavy reliance on these organs to speak fluently). The warblers also have a secondary purpose; they are directly tied into the Hardlight system, so if a Kaydenite is "burned out" (see below) then they can expel excess plasma through the slits in the form of steam and gas to cool themselves down a little quicker. However the warblers are a delicate organ, and so trying to vent Hardlight through them is a very precise process, meaning that a Kaydenite has to pick an opportune, quiet moment to attempt it.
    • Heat Resistance: Due to their bodies natural ability to create and channel searing hot plasma, the Kaydenites as a species naturally have an imperviousness to fire and electricity, either being completely ignorable for the former (with the exception of clothes) or actually helping in channeling with the latter. They do have a limit though, anything hotter than plasma could harm them in the same way fire or lightning would on a human.
  • Weaknesses:
    • Hardlight Burnout: A natural, common consequence of overusing Hardlight in a short period of time, but still dangerous if it happens in battle. The cells lining the organs become inflamed and incapable of producing more electricity to convert the air inside to plasma, causing a buildup of hot steam and smoke from within. The symptoms include violent coughing fits and abdominal pain. Attempts to generate more Hardlight in an inflamed set of organs could cause even worse symptoms or potentially fatal damage. There are currently three ways to deal with burnout, wait it out (taking around fifteen to twenty minutes before the inflammation has receded enough for the organs to be safe to use again) take a "cooldown" pill (which still takes five to ten minutes to act) or release the excess high-heat steam by channeling it through the glottal warblers as a form of ventilation (which takes only a few seconds but requires the Kaydenite's full attention and concentration to avoid scalding their speech mechanisms).
    • Fragile Body: A Kaydenite's skeletal and muscle structure are a lot weaker to that of a humans. Injuries that would cause a fracture in a human would completely snap the bone of a Kaydenite, and also disrupt their Hardlight systems. As a result, Kaydenites in combat don't act acrobatic for flashiness' sake, they do it out of necessity, using trickery and ruthless, unpredictable combat techniques to ensure their survival. If they do get hit, chances are it'll be a lot more crippling than if a human was on the other end.
  • Appearance: Rok'n looks uncannily similar to Rine, sharing the same red shade of hair and facial structure. Unlike Rine, however, his skin is an ashen, sickly grey, his veins and eyes constantly glowing white due to the sheer amounts of Hardlight being generated through his body at all times. He also suffers from a hunch, due to the fact his four extra organs end up interfering with his more important bodily functions. He has no sign of having aged since he entered the Wildlands, possibly a side effect of drug usage.
  • Personality: Cold, sadistic, and unhinged, Rok'n's suave manner of speech that could so quickly give way to animalistic rage is a cause of great intimidation, and so the ex-general quickly became feared by even the most vicious exile of the Wildlands. He has little patience to be tested, anyone who questions him quickly and brutally killed out of sheer rage. As a result, however, he has a tendency to rush into things blindly, negating his own health to get what he wants. He shows particular animosity towards Rine, jealous of the fact that his distant relative not only resembles him but still has a living valen in Kyxe, and thus feels as if the universe is almost mocking of what he had lost for his actions. As such, he usually tries to kill Kyxe in front of his cousin to make him feel his agony, an attempt of which eventually got him killed by Rine in a blood-rage of his own.
  • Background:
    • The cousin of Rine's father, Ekan Anok, Rok'n showcased a ruthless sadism even as early as his Academy days, channelling his chronic pain from having an overabundance of Hardlight organs into rage. He was brutal in any fight, using any methods necessary (no matter how disgusting) to defeat his opponent. After his graduation, however, he met Fæliah Vanedezh, a Kaydenite from the city of Lunara whose calming and softspoken demeanour tended to cloud out his anger, and after many fights and close calls alongside her, he discovered that she and him were valen; a term used to describe a pair of Kaydenites inseparable in their comradeship and trust. Eventually, he married her, and she took up the name of F'lia Anok.note
    • Unfortunately, this was not to last. Centuries later (more like decades to the species) Rok'n had become a controversially received general, F'lia alongside him every step of the way. He had developed an incredibly powerful technique - the ability to make an army of solid duplicates, turning his disability into a gift. One tragic morning, however, he awoke to find his wife mutilated at his side, and promptly screamed in horror until the servants arrived to calm him and removed him from the room. The elders of the House of Anok blamed it on an Altürgone attack; claiming that it had snuck into the compound disguised as a servant to kill the House from the inside. Spotting several holes in this theory, Rok'n refused to believe them, lividly declaring that the elders themselves had orchestrated her death as punishment for his ruthless and controversial activities of the past. The elders' poor denial of this snapped any last threads of his sanity, and he went on a rampage in the meeting chamber until he was eventually overwhelmed by the rest of the House members. Declared criminally insane by the House of Anok as a whole, Rok'n was cast out into the Wildlands on the dark side of the planet, left to rot.
    • Instead of perishing, however, Rok'n fought. With the desperation of a man who had lost everything, he clawed his way up the ranks of the criminal nation of the Wildlands, declaring a large territory his and using his copies to enforce his rule, aiming to get enough influence to gain revenge on the House of Anok. Eventually catching the attention of the Altürgone leader Val'othnote , Rok'n was gifted temporary leadership over the very creatures that the Anok had claimed that had killed his wife. Still believing the Anok to be the real perpetrators, Rok'n accepted, breaking through the Equator Wall and attacking the House of Anok with an army of Altürgone as a form of cruel irony. Stumbling across Rine, he was taken aback by the younger Kaydenite's uncanny resemblance to him, and grew a sense of jealousy once he realised the female Seng alongside his distant relative was his valen; plotting to kill her to induce Rine into feeling the same anger and pain he has had for his whole life. Trying to put this plan into action in a later attack, it backfired immensely, Rine showing his own ruthlessness and cruelly dispatching the ex-general before he could do any more than slash Kyxe's stomach, further ruining her already-malformed Hardlight organ.
    • Rok'n's death was so sudden and coldly served that the factions of the Wildlands still believe him to be alive, somehow having faked his own demise to avoid humiliattion of having run away from battle. However, Rine's newly-acquired version of the Hardlight Copy technique begs to differ, though whether Rok'n will stay dead is another matter entirely...

That Friend Nobody Likes
#25: Apr 13th 2018 at 2:25:52 PM

  • Identity:
    • Alias: 1107-1035
    • Status: Villain/Anti-Hero[[note: Depends on how much you know about why he does what he does. Your average Joe would see him as a Ax-Crazy Generic Doomsday Villain who kills random people for no discernible reason, but a few enlightened individuals realize a small portion his reasons, although he still seems random and violent to everyone who isn't him.]]
    • True Name: Leland Alder
  • Abilities:
    • Powers:
      • Limited Reality Warping: Due to ridiculously advanced Transhumanist tech implanted within the very molecules of his body, 1107-1035 can alter reality in relatively minor ways, such as teleporting a few feet, and changing position, reloading his gun, or fixing a recently-broken item. It involves quantum mechanics and stuff. Also, he can turn back time exactly thirty seconds about once per month. When he turns back time in this way, he retains his memories of the thirty seconds, but nobody else does.
      • Enhanced Strength, Speed, Agility, and Endurance: Exactly What It Says on the Tin. He is stronger, faster, tougher, and more agile than a normal human because of the transhumanist tech implanted within the very molecules of his body, He can shrug off blows that would not only hurt, but kill a normal person, does not care one jot about pain (although he still feels it), and do loads of other crazy powerful stuff.
      • Mental Database: 1107-1035's body has a computer in it that can store a ridiculously huge amount of information in every atom of his body. Although most of his brain matter is mostly full (see his backstory to learn what's filling it), the rest of his body is almost utterly empty, and can be filled with relatively inconsequential data. He thus has an almost perfect memory, is extremely observant, and has slightly enhanced intelligence. Also, due to redundant features and backups and stuff, his thought processes are intact even if he suffers brain damage. He can also do damage assessment on his body.
      • Enhanced Mental Fortitude: 1107-1035 can endure things which would cause a normal human to Go Mad from the Revelation a thousand times over.
      • Weave Flesh: 1107-1035 has a Healing Factor that can heal pretty much any wound, but, unlike most healing factors, he has to concentrate to heal his body. All data that was lost with the destruction of a body part is restored when said body part is healed.
      • Foreknowledge: Due to the stuff stored in his brain matter, he knows the probable consequences of pretty much every important action he could make. Of course, it takes a bit of time to find the relevant information, and this is not true knowledge of the future, only of probabilities and likelihoods. Despite that, it is actually very reliable.
      • Energy Collection: 1107-1035 does not need to eat, drink, or sleep. His body collects energy from his environment, usually in the form of light, heat, and motion energy, and stores this energy. Eating and drinking still add to this energy, and sleeping helps conserve it, but he still has a ridiculous amount of energy at his disposal.
      • Ageless: 1107-1035 no longer physically ages.
    • Skills:
      • Fighting: Over the course of years, 1107-1035 has become very skilled at pretty much every form of physical combat.
      • Stealth: 1107-1035 is extremely sneaky, which is enhanced even further by his catlike agility and limited reality warping. This skill set also extends to "hiding in plain sight" and blending into crowds.
  • Equipment:
    • Combat Shotgun With Attached Bayonet: Since The Equation said that combat shotguns with bayonets equipped were "optimal" for combat, this is the weapon he uses.
    • Multiple Fake Identities: Multiple incredibly detailed and authentic-seeming fake identities.
    • Cash: Lots of cash. Of course, he could get mugged for it, but it would be incredibly stupid to mug 1107-1035...
  • Appearance: 1107-1035 is a black-haired, blue-eyed Caucasian man, about 5'10" tall, and with an otherwise deceptively normal appearance. Although he is really much older, he looks about 25. He consciously attempts to dress and talk in a way typical of people of his age and ethnicity in a given area. He also has a well-kept beard.
  • Personality: 1107-1035's most important, though not his most noticeable, personality trait is his dedication. He will do his duty and he will do it well. He tends not to care much for people, preferring to continue to perform his duty. It almost reaches Blue-and-Orange Morality levels, if his dedication to The Equation weren't ultimately for the good of humanity (well, sort of).
  • Background: Leland Alder was born in a small town in the state of New Hampshire in the year 1889. He lived a relatively uneventful life until he was employed as a lab assistant for a group of Mad Scientists in New York City in the early 1920s. In the year 1925, one of the scientists discovered a drug that granted limitless intelligence. He promptly wrote The Equation, which is pretty much The Diagram from Brandon Sanderson's The Stormlight Archive if it was written in a world that was part of the Cthulhu Mythos. The scientist made three agents, who called themselves Greenshift, Skye, and 1107-1035 (they did this because The Equation predicted they would, although they didn't know why until they figured out it was because they mad it a Self-Fulfilling Prophecy), and equipped them with ridiculously advanced Transhumanist tech which is probably at least 1,000 years ahead of its time. Then, the scientist burned himself out with his own intelligence. The other scientists were either killed by the agents of the equation for delving into dangerous topics, or got themselves killed trying to replicate the limitless intelligence drug. Skye died in Hiroshima in 1945, and Greenshift did not have the dedication necessary to work as an agent of the equation, and settled down and married in 1972. 1107-1035 had to kill Greenshift because he was a risk. It was no easy task, but Greenshift was the worst-equipped of the three, so he eventually lost. Since then, 1107-1035 has been the last agent of The Equation, but he doesn't complain, and is unceasingly dedicated.
  • The Equation: The Equation is extremely massive, and requires the majority of the vast storage space in 1107-1035's brain. However the basics are this: guidelines on the Eldritch Abomination horrors of the universe, and how humanity must be prevented from learning about them at all costs, their weaknesses, how to kill them (or, barring that, indefinitely drive them away) how to prevent humanity from drawing their attention, possibilities and probabilities of the future and how to manipulate them to ensure an "optimal future". This includes things to do, and a list of people who unconditionally should be killed, unconditionally should survive, should be killed if they do a choose a certain path, or should be killed if they don't choose a certain path. It also includes information on the optimal times to kill them. A lot of these people are scientists, but due to the Butterfly Effect, a lot of them are totally random. It also includes a list of cultural trends to stamp out and cultural trends to propagate. It advises to ensure the propagation of beer, television, political division, conspiracy theories, and unemployment until the year 2057, when the propagation of unemployment should cease, and beer should be criminalized, along with tobacco. Why is pretty much incomprehensible to everyone not familiar with The Equation, but it is to ensure mankind's continuing ignorance of its unimportance and of cosmic forces beyond the comprehension even of magical beings, and, ultimately, the "optimal" future" for humanity.

Umm... so, I was here, I guess. If I wasn't, someone hacked my account. So, yeah.
