  • Team JNPR
    • Jaune's seven sisters (Biana, Shani, Olivia, Violet, Sienna, Indigo and Azure) are based off cslucaris's concept design for the Arc sisters.

  • Friends and Allies
    • Ashe Kasai, who is also Cinder's younger brother, is inspired and based off the characters of Eric Draven and Ashe Corven from The Crow movies in terms of his personality and character design.
    • Claudandus Pirinci, who is Blake Belladonna's grandfather and founder of the White Fang organisation in this fic, is ironically named after the old Havana Brown cat and the true main antagonist Claudandus of Felidae.

  • The Kingdom of Atlas
    • Task Force Omega of the elite Altesian military branch S.W.O.R.D. shares some similarities with NOBLE Team from Halo: Reach.
      • Central - Commanding Officer (Omega One)
      • Raider - Pilot/Engineering Specialist (Omega Two)
      • Jammer - Tech Ops Splicer/Electronic Warfare Specialist (Omega Three)
      • Javelin - Sniper/Sharpshooter/Gunslinger (Omega Four)
      • Shocker - Melee/Knife/Shock Baton Specialist (Omega Five)
      • Invictus - Heavy Weapons and Explosives Specialist (Omega Six)
      • Fieros - Heavy Warfare Specialist (Plasma Repeater) (Omega Seven)
      • N1CK3L- Enhanced Tactical Android (Heavy Combat Support) (Omega Eight)

  • The Remnant Knights
    • Lord Emmanuel's character personality is a reference to King Leonidas of the 300 Spartans from the movie 300, especially in his Dying Moment of Awesome which is depicted in RWBY Crucible.
    • Seraph Pendragon, the current Grand Knight Master of the Remnant Knights, is based off King Arthur since his sword is literally the Remnant form of Excalibur, which in this case is named Excalibrus.
      • His description and personality were inspired from a number of characters including Imperius (The Leader of the Angels) from Diablo III, Azrael from the Dark Angels, and Kaldor Draigo from the Grey Knights.
    • Argentius, who is also a Silver-Eyed Warrior like Ruby and Summer Rose, has shown similarities to Obi-Wan Kenobi from Star Wars in terms of his The Mentor personality and his willingness to teach Ruby Rose how to control the power of her Silver Eyes.
    • Soul Seer, who is the younger sister of Argentius, has her character design and gentle personality greatly resembling Galadriel from The Lord of the Rings, and her abilities are apparently similar to Mercy (Angela Ziegler) from ''Overwatch.
      • Her flower-shaped staff Life's Requiem is designed after the various magic staffs used by the various heroines of the Final Fantasy series.
    • Forge Smith's character design is clearly derived from Reinhardt Wilhelm from Overwatch, as his personal Aegis armour shared resemblance with the Space Marines' Terminator variant Power Armour and the Balderich variant armour that the Crusader's leader, Balderich Von Alder wore. He also wields a giant ornate hammer named Mjolnira.
    • Shadow Reaper is obviously based off Reaper (Gabriel Reyes) from Overwatch, sharing many similarities in terms of his Knight Name, personal shadow-based Semblance, Dual Wielding gunswords, his somewhat macabre Alpha Beowolf-shaped helmet, and tough no-nonsense attitude.
    • Tranquility's personality and character design are modelled based off both Asuna Yuuki and Yuuki Konno from Sword Art Online, and her rapier weapon as well as advanced glyph skills are clearly based upon Winter and Weiss Schnee's' abilities from RWBY itself.
    • Iron Fist is named after the Iron Fist from the Marvel comics, and his character and fighting style bears resemblance to certain Street Fighter characters.
    • Eagle Eye bears inspiration in her character design from both Widowmaker (Amelie Lacroix) and Ana Amari from Overwatch, due to her Cold Sniper tendencies and the Badass Boast that she never, ever misses her chosen target. Her personal Ace Custom sniper rifle is also a combination of both aforementioned Overwatch characters' rifles with additional gimmicks included.
    • Sharp Strike, who is the first Remnant Knight Team Beacon comes into contact with, has his personality partially based off Kirito (Kazuto Kirigaya) and Ezra Bridger, and his impressive Dual Wielding sword skills is also a reference to that aforementioned first hero as well.

  • Salem's Faction

  • The Four Maidens
    • Amethyst Rilo, who is the current Spring Maiden, name and overall character design might be a reference to the Crystal Gem Amethyst.
    • The current Summer Maiden Heliosia Ainea's name is a portmanteau of two names, mainly Helios who is the god and personification of the Sun in Greek mythology, and Imperator Furiosa. (Furiosa means "furious" in Latin, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish.) The second part of her name Ainea is possibly referring to Áine, who is the Irish goddess of summer, wealth and sovereignty.
    • The current Winter Maiden Elsa Vorst is a direct reference to Snow Queen Elsa.

    Arc One - The Haven Arc Examples 

  • Chapter 2: Alone in the Woods
    • The name of Little Steve from Damien's Enforcers is a reference to Little Shelby from the comic book The Crow.
    • Tom-Tom is a reference to the only one of Eric and Shelly's murderers from the The Crow comic that wasn't adapted into the movie.

  • Chapter 3: The City of Haven
    • The Mistralian City of Haven is made up of a abominable combination of cityscapes which included New York City, Detroit, and Los Angeles with a bit of Hong Kong thrown in for good measure.
    • The speeches in this chapter about the forces of light and dark mentioned in the chapter were inspired by Matthew Stover's novelization of Revenge of the Sith
    • The movie which inspired the intelligent Beowolves is based upon Wolfen, a 1981 horror mystery movie about a hyper-intelligent sub-species of wolves that survived being hunted to the point of near extinction or endangerment like the rest of their kind by hiding in the cities built by men, living in the underground, the sewers, and the slums, feeding off the homeless and stragglers, suggesting that the many missing persons' cases are the result of the wolves killing them for food.

  • Chapter 6: A Matter of Family Part I
    • Dr. Gerard Kimball is a reference to the Harrison Ford movie The Fugitive, which features a 'one-armed man' in an evil role. The aforementioned name is actually a combination of the movie's two main characters.

  • Chapter 7: A Matter of Family Part II
    • The word Haakskeekah! actually comes from an early version of the fantasy film The Dark Crystal where the villains of the film, the Skeksis, spoke in a weird alien language with no subtitles and in one scene while they were debating who should lead them they were to shout out Haakskeekah! , which was referenced as Ashe's activation word of his unique powers against his elder sister Cinder Fall. (For those who are wondering what that line translates to English, it actually means Trial by Stone!)

  • Chapter 8: The Pieces Come Together
    • The opening nightmare scene was heavily inspired by the horror/drama film Jacob's Ladder due to how the aforementioned scene begins screwing with Jaune's mind with peaceful dreams.
    • Alessandro Kane's name is a reference to two people, mainly Alessandro which is a reference to actor Alessandro Juliani (aka 'L' in Death Note) who also did the voice of a bat transformer called Nightscream in Transformers Beast Machines. The Kane part of his name is a reference to Bob Kane, the creator of Batman.

  • Chapter 9: Calm before the Storm
    • Agent 501 (aka Jacob Pyrce) shares the same number as the 501st Legion from ''Star Wars.
    • Dr Victor Giger is a reference to two things: Victor is a reference to Victor Frenkenstein and Giger is a homage to Hans Ruedi "H.R." Giger from the Alien movie franchise.
    • The Grimm Chimera is a big hodgepodge of a ton of Stan Winston movie monsters which included the Raptors from Jurassic Park, the Kathoga from The Relic, the Pumkinhead from Pumpkinhead, and the Xenomorph Aliens from Alien movie franchise in addition to many of the Grimm creatures featured in RWBY canon.

  • Chapter 10: The Storm Rages
    • The song I'm Going to Go Back There Someday is the same song used in The Muppet Movie.
    • The poem Ashe Kasai recites when he is possessed by the Aura Crystal is Sonnet X, Death be Not Proud by John Donne.
    • Colonel Jackson Chamberlain's name is taken from two civil war heroes, mainly in the form of Stonewall Jackson who fought for the confederacy and was accidentally shot by his own men, and later died due to pneumonia and never even got to see his baby girl, and Chamberlain comes from Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain who led the 20th Maine Volunteer Infantry Regiment at the infamous battle of Gettysburg, as seen in the movie Gettysburg.

  • Chapter 12: Convergence
    • Velvet's cry of "Frith and Inle!" is a reference to the novel of Watership Down as in the book the rabbits refer to the sun and the moon respectively as Frith and Inle.

  • Chapter 13: Predule
    • Ashe's pre-battle speech is based on the religious leader and preacher Leonard Dillion's speech before the inmates go into battle against the Xenomorph in Alien³.

  • Chapter 14: A Duel of Fates
    • The name of the Chapter is based off the Star Wars track of the same name as well.
    • The Duel to the Death between Jaune Arc and Fotia Drakos (who is actually a Grimmified Pyrrha Nikos) is heavily based off the lightsaber duels from Star Wars (mainly from the Anakin versus Obi-Wan fight in Revenge of the Sith) and Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

  • Chapter 20: The Battle of Haven Part V: Love
    • The prophecy given by the Aura Crystal in previous chapters which foreshadows Jaune saving Pyrrha and both of them becoming the new Guardians of the said Crystal, as recited by Ashe Kasai, is based off the prophecy mentioned in The Dark Crystal which states that a Gelfling (a race that has been almost exterminated by the Skeksis) will destroy the Skeksis and repair the Crystal.

  • Chapter 23: Vengeance is Mine
    • Some readers have compared Ashe Kasai's entire fight scene with the Fury gang to be quite similar to the style of The Punisher.

  • Chapter 27: The Trial of Ozpin
    • Ozpin's hometown of Baum is named after L. Frank Baum who created the Oz book series.
    • The leader of the Rabid Ones gang named Taka, who is also the Lion Faunus who murdered Weiss and Winter Schnee's mother Gwyneth Schnee in this fic, is named after Scar from The Lion King, as that was his original name before he got the scar on his face.
    • Ozpin's lawyer Webster is named after the tale of a lawyer which is named The Devil and Daniel Webster.

    Arc Two - The White Fang Arc Examples 

  • Chapter 32: Train Ride
    • Tom, Anna and Clara Allcroft are all clearly based on Thomas & Friends and his coaches Annie and Clarabelle. The name Allcroft is a tribute to the woman Britt Allcroft who adapted the books of Thomas the Tank Engine to television.
    • Coco Adel's backstory in which her father Richard Adel defended her mother Aria Adel from a robber bears similarities to Bruce Wayne's backstory of how he lost his parents in the origins of Batman.
    • Scarlet David's backstory shares a couple of similarities with the story of Peter Pan, especially with him serving aboard a pirate ship named The Bloody Hook, and the concept of him swiping a brass compass that belonged to his father during a mutiny might be alluding to the character of captain Jack Sparrow (who also has a rather interesting compass...) from Pirates of the Caribbean.
    • In Neptune Vasilias's backstory he made mention to an Atlesian admiral named Nemo, who was presumably named after Captain Nemo from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. In addition, he also makes mention of the Atlesian Navy being in possession of a certain high-tech submarine which possibly could be a reference to the Nemo's Nautilus as well.

  • Chapter 33: Monkey Business
    • Velvet Scarlatina's belly-dancer outfit, which she was being (sort of) forced by Coco Adel, bears some resemblance to that worn by Princess Jasmine from Aladdin.

  • Chapter 34: The Elite Guard
    • The Elite Guard of the White Fang shares certain resemblance to The Dreadnoks, who are the shock troops of COBRA from G.I. JOE, especially as they have a custom-made vehicle which sported dangerous weaponry not unlike that of the fictional biker mercenary gang's Thunder Machine.
    • Piper, a member of the White Fang Elite Guard, is inspired by The Pied Piper of Hamelin.
    • Babara is named after the children's book Babar.

  • Chapter 37: Fear of the Beast

  • Chapter 38: Nightmares Part I: Officer Down
    • Jaune Arc and Pyrrha Nikos's new outfits (being assisted by fellow author smstanton) bears some resemblance to the upgrades seen to the latter's fanfic 4 Years of Beacon, as seen here: Link.

  • Chapter 39: Nightmares Part II: Dreams
    • Shadow Reaper, who is revealed as a Remnant Knight, replies a passphrase that states that The Knight Order of Remnant is "The unbreakable shield of Remnant", which is a line used by the Grey Knights Space Marine Chapter in Warhammer 40,000.
    • Ozpin's final line spoken to Shadow Reaper in this chapter as a final gesture of courtesy is a paraphrased version of the opening quote from Doom 2016 video game which might be referencing to the legendary Doom Marine.

  • Chapter 45: Duel for the White Fang
    • Central, who is in charge of Task Force Omega of the Atlesian military forces, shares the same codename/callsign as Central Officer John Bradford from XCOM 2 and XCOM: Enemy Unknown.
    • The character concept design and weaponry for the Atlesian Troopers of the elite Task Force Omega is based upon the Nakama-Raibor's Altas Elite Troopers.
    • The emblem of Task Force Omega is based upon the emblem designs of both the SPARTAN super-soldier program from the Halo Series and the Global Defense Initiative (GDI) from Command & Conquer: Tiberium Wars.
    • The motto of Task Force Omega, Exitus Acta Probat (which in Latin translates roughly to "The Outcome Justifies the Deed" ), is a reference to the UNSC Phoenix-class support vessel Spirit of Fire from Halo Wars and Halo Wars 2.

  • Chapter 46: War for the White Fang Part I
    • The arrival of the combined Strike Force comprising of the Atlas military forces and the Vacuo Rangers to launch a massive attack on the White Fang headquarters bears resemblance to the scene of UNSC forces mobilizing to attack the Covenant at Szurdok Ridge during the mission "Tip of the Spear" in Halo: Reach.
    • Sharp Strike's way of deployment on his Cool Bike from Team Beacon's stolen White Fang transport is based on Black Widow's deployment on a motorcycle from the Avenger Quinjet's passenger bay in Avengers: Age of Ultron.
    • The Atlesian Awesome Personnel Carrier ramming into the modified White Fang Paladin to save the other Atlesian soldiers and Vacuo Rangers in a Heroic Sacrifice is a reference to such a scene happening in Call Of Duty Infinite Warfare.
    • Task Force Omega Commander Central's way of taking out the White Fang Paladin was primarily inspired from how the quick-time event in which Lieutenant Nick Reyes took out the C12 Battle Tank in Call Of Duty Infinite Warfare.
    • During Operation Fracture, the Winter Templars Knight Legion of the Remnant Knights deployed a massive tank which looked like the lovechild of both a Mammoth Tank from Command & Conquer: Tiberium Wars and a Baneblade Super-Heavy Tank from Warhammer 40,000 to attack the largest White Fang cell in Atlas.

  • Chapter 47: War for the White Fang Part II
    • Sharp Strike's way of telling the Beowolf Grimm Commander Steppenwolffe that the Remnant Knights still exist and they are joining in the fight for the future of Remnant is based upon the Badass Boast given by Sanguinius, primarch of the Blood Angels Legion in Book 21 Fear to Tread of the Horus Heresy series.

  • Chapter 49: Love in the Air
    • The entire debriefing scene between Sharp Strike and his master and mentor Argentius is loosely based on a similar scene between Captain Belial and Interrogator-Chaplain Asmodai from the Dark Angels novels.
    • One of the outfits Coco recommended playfully for Pyrrha for her date was the iconic Virgin Killer Sweater.
    • Ozpin makes mention that the secret fortress headquarters of the Remnant Knights is known as Tintagel, which is a reference to the castle Tintagel from Arthurian Legend, where Arthur was conceived due to a Bed Trick.

  • Chapter 50: The Beacon Lights Again Part I: Meetings
    • The individual Knight Legions of Remnant, or at least those that have been revealed, draw quite a number of inspirations from the various Space Marines Chapters of Warhammer 40,000 in terms of their armor design and outlooks.
      • The Winter Templars Knight Legion of Atlas has concepts taken from the Black Templars and Dark Angels.
      • The Steadfast Sentinels Knight Legion of Vale has concepts taken from the Imperial Fists and Aurora Chapter.
      • The Relentless Crusaders Knight Legion of Vacuo has concepts taken from the White Scars and Dark Hunters.
      • The Eternal Warriors Knight Legion of Mistral has concepts taken from the Crimson Fists and Storm Wardens.
    • The opening meeting between the various Knight Legions of Remnant had many references from Arthurian Legend.
      • The chamber where the Knights' meeting took place is known as The Round Table.
      • Grand Knight Master Seraph Pendragon shares the same second name as King Arthur.
      • The personal weapon of the Grand Knight Masters of the Knight Order, as well as their badge of office, is named Excalibrus which is a sort of wordplay on the legendary sword of King Arthur, Excalibur.
      • Avalon, which is a reference to the island of Avalon where Arthur was taken to be healed after his last battle, is also name-dropped near the end of the meeting but its overall nature is still unknown.
    • The Oath of Secrecy that Team RWBY and Team JNPR took before the Guardians of Remnant brought them to meet the Remnant Knights is a heavily edited and paraphrased version of the Green Lantern Corps' Badass Creed.

  • Chapter 51: The Beacon Lights Again Part II: Roses
    • The various Remnant Knights clearly drew inspiration from a variety of Movies, Video Game characters, Anime characters and more for their character concepts, individual weapons and organization's overall Modus Operandi.

    • The oriental-style home that Argentius brought Ruby to within one of his treasured memories in the mindscape is loosely inspired from the mountain home of Yasu Nagasena from The Horus Heresy.
    • The Elder Grimm known as the Dreameater, which Argentius and Ruby Rose encountered during their shared trip into the mindscape, is based off The Voice sinister character from the comic book Amulet by Kazu Kibuishi, editor of Flight and author of the webcomic Copper and graphic novel Daisy Kutter.
      • The mask-like face of the Dreameater Elder Grimm looks similar to Ichigo Kurosaki's mask from the anime Bleach, while the tentacle-like whips around its face resembles the mythological monster Medusa.
    • Summer Rose's secret sanctuary's overall design within the mindscape is a nod to Floria the main settlement on the 47th Floor of Aincrad in Sword Art Online, with the majority of flower beds filled with roses instead of other flowers.

  • Chapter 52: The Beacon Lights Again Part III: Legacy
    • The flashback battle between Ashe Kasai and the Remnant Knights (Shadow Reaper, Wood Cutter and Sharp Strike) has a couple of scenes inspired from the lightsaber duel between Anakin and Obiwan on Mustafar from Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.
    • The Sin Commanders, as mentioned by both Grand Knight Master Seraph and Chief Prognosticator Soul Seer to be the precursors of the current Grimm Commanders, bears slight resemblance to the Homunculus (they are even named after the Seven Deadly Sins: Pride, Greed, Lust, Envy, Gluttony, Wrath and Sloth) from the Fullmetal Alchemist series.

    Arc Three - The Maidens Arc Examples 

  • Chapter 54: Return Part II: Going Forward
    • The knight name of the Knight Vanguard in charge of protecting the Spring Maiden, Wind Runner, is based upon the renowned Windrunner family of high elves in World Of War Craft.
    • Watchpoint Glacies, which is one of the places used to hide the Winter Maiden, is loosely based upon the design of Ecopoint: Antarctica from Overwatch, where Mei-Ling Zhou works.

  • Chapter 56: History Lessons

  • Chapter 57: Burdens of the Dead
    • The description of the Atlesian Airborne Assault Carrier Spirit of Winter, which is commanded by Captain White, looks like a combination of the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier from The Avengers (2012) and the UNSC Spirit of Fire from Halo Wars 2.
    • Captain Gregory White’s (who is also Central's mentor) character and personality is modeled after Captain James Cutter from Halo Wars and Halo Wars 2.
    • Commander Central’s briefing scene with Captain White, who introduces N1CK3L to him in this chapter, is loosely based upon this cutscene from Star Wars Battlefront II (2017) in which Commander Iden Versio faces the reality of the Emperor's demise and receives her first assignment at Vardos.

  • Chapter 58: Arrivals and Departures
    • Task Force Omega of the Atlas military forces, as seen in this chapter, draws many inspirations from the following special forces units: the Empire's Task Force 99 from Star Wars (Marvel 2015), the Deathtroopers from Rogue One, and Inferno Squad from Star Wars Battlefront II: Inferno Squad in terms of their skills, Modus Operandi and specialties. Their colour scheme as well as sleek and high-tech outlook and design is primarily inspired by the Dominion Special Forces from StarCraft II and Covert Ops Crew from Nova Covert Ops.
    • The Retribution, which is the Strike Corvette of Central's Team 113, bears certain resemblance to the Corvus, the personal spaceship of Inferno Squad from Star Wars Battlefront II (2017) and the stealth starship Griffin from Nova Covert Ops.
    • N1CK3L's (who is the brother android of P.E.N.N.Y.) Mark II Full Armour Defense System shares similarities to the HRUNTING/YGGDRASIL Mark I Prototype Armor Defense System seen in Halo Legends, especially in its weapons loadouts as well as additional defensive systems, as seen here.
    • The scene of N1CK3L firing a pair of small missiles to destroy a Red Fang Heavy Tank is similar to MCU Iron Man's way of taking out an enemy tank in the first Iron Man movie.

  • Chapter 59: A Meeting of the Maidens Part I
    • Elsa Vorst's clothing design in this chapter draws inspiration from both Snow Queen Elsa's costume in Olaf's Frozen Adventure and Mei-Ling Zhou's accessories from Overwatch.
    • The Grand Temple of Vacuo and its accompanying "Holy City" district within the Kingdom of Vacuo's capital bears resemblance to the Temple of the Kyber and Jedha City, both of which were located on the planet of Jedha from Rogue One.
    • Heliosia Ainea and her Knight Vanguard Fire Walker meeting Sister Rosea at the Solaria Crescent Orphanage was inspired by a similar scene of the secondary characters (Khensu and Zaid Zarberi) doing the same thing on the planet of Hykosis from the comic book Cleopatra in Space.
      • Sister Rosea's younger character design, which was seen as a picture on her personal office, was a nod to Rose Quartz from Steven Universe.
      • Sister Carolyn Pearl was possibly also a reference to Pearl the Crystal Gem.

  • Chapter 62: Taking Action
    • Soul Seer's second prophecy is a reference to the ancient Chinese Legends of the celestial couple comprising of the Phoenix and the Dragon.
    • The Ice Box, which is mentioned as a maximum-security penitentiary facility located in a classified location within the Kingdom of Atlas by General Ironwood, shares the same name as the special detention and containment area Ice Box inside the S.H.I.E.L.D. facility known as the Fridge from Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
    • The sanctuary mentioned to be the safe haven for the pirate gangs of Remnant is named Shipwreck Rocks, which is an allusion to Shipwreck City located at Shipwreck Cove from the movie Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End.
      • The entire scene of the pirates meeting is based off The Brethren Court from the same movie as well.
      • Captain Silvers might be a reference to Captain Hook from Peter Pan and shares certain similarities with him, since Scarlet David of Team SSSN was supposedly based off the character of Peter Pan himself.
    • The comment that Nebula Violette of Team NDGO mentioned about a certain 'Adara Aenia' (which is the cover name for Heliosia Ainea the Summer Maiden) beating Team HVST in pugil stick matches, dominating Team KAKI in hand-to-hand combat, and even defeated Team SHDW in a four-to-one showdown is a reference to Agent Texas's fight against Agents York, Wyoming and Maine in Season 9 Episode 10 Introductions of the Project Freelancer arc of the popular machinima Red vs. Blue.

  • Chapter 63: Of Things to Come Part I
    • The glimpse of the malevolence behind all the evil in RWBY (which is essentially a dark nothingness of sorts) is likened to the Giygas from Earthbound, The Lord of the Locusts from Bone, and the Nothing from The Neverending Story.
    • A variety of fairy tales and real-life people were mentioned and name-dropped during the conversation taking place within the Aura Crystal’s mindscape between Jaune, Pyrrha and the soul fragments of Ashe and Ember Kasai.

  • Chapter 64: Of Things to Come Part II
    • The Olympus headquarters of the elite Altesian military branch S.W.O.R.D. has some influence taken from the S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Triskelion and UNSC HIGHCOM Facility Bravo-6
    • The conversation between Doctor Polendina and N1CK3L is partially inspired from conversations taking place between the various characters such as Motoko Kusanagi and Batou in the Ghost in the Shell 1995 movie.
      • Doctor Polendina mentioned that he had significantly modified both Penny and N1CK3L's dynamic memory-processor matrix in order to make them significantly more advanced than the standard Atlesian Knights, which is a reference to the Smart AI (Artificial Intelligence) concepts used in Halo.
    • The entire scene of Sharp Strike being armed and armored within the forges of Tintagel is based off the armoring rituals of the Space Marines taking place in their fortress armories from Warhammer 40,000.
      • The conversation between Sharp Strike and Forge Smith after the armouring ritual is a paraphrased version of an exchange between a Servitor and Ultramarines Sergeant Crastor from the Ultramarines 2010 movie.

  • Chapter 65: Final Preparations
    • Sharp Strike’s blessing ceremony has certain elements inspired from the Chapter rituals of the Black Templar Space Marines when leaving to join the Deathwatch Order in Warhammer 40,000.
      • Soul Seer mentioned that one of the first twelve knights of the Knight Order has personally encountered the very first Guardians of the Aura Crystal, and written Crystallus Libro Vitae (known as the Book of the Crystal of Life) to inform the rest of the Order about the existence of said relic, the former of which may refer to the Mystics from The Dark Crystal.
    • The Knight Order's stealth prowler airship Tempest is named after the Scout Ship Tempest from Mass Effect: Andromeda, and its overall design resembles that of the UNSC Winter-class stealth corvette from Halo 5: Guardians.
    • Soul Seer’s cryptic words about seeing parts of Sharp Strike’s future and the nature of one’s fate are based off the teachings of the Jedi Order from Star Wars.
    • Madame Viper, who is the current leader of the Black Vipers gang in Vacuo, is possibly inspired from Madame Hydra of the HYDRA terrorist organization within the Framework in Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

  • Chapter 66: A New Teammate
    • Ruby mentioned a tag-team match between the members of Team RWBY and Penny, which could be a reference to the video game BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle in which Team RWBY can be pitted against each other.
    • Quite a few more fairy tales and real-life people were also mentioned and name-dropped during the conversation taking place at Ozpin's office between the headmaster and the members of Team Beacon.

  • Chapter 67: Flight of the Hyperion
    • Canis Bailey's , Captain-General of the Vacuo Elite Desert Guard, character and personality is modeled after CC-3636 Clone Commander Wolffe from Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
      • His personal hand-picked elite squad from the 104th Battalion has the designation Wolfpack, which is a reference to the clone trooper squad Wolfpack from the Grand Army of the Republic.
    • The Sand Devourer Elder Grimm is inspired by the Sandworm from the Dune Series.
    • N1CK3L joked that he carries the brain of a human watchmaker, which is similar to what E3N "Ethan" did in the latter's introduction sequence from Call Of Duty Infinite Warfare.
    • The Hyperion One, which serves as Team Beacon's personal Mobile Airborne Command Ship (MACS), has its various weaponry and capabilities taken from Zephyr One and The Bus from Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the refashioned alien transport craft Avenger from XCOM 2.
      • The Hyperion One was mentioned to be manufactured by the FutureTech Corporation, which is a company mentioned in Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3.
      • The Hyperion Minor, which is an Avenger gunship, has some design concepts which share similarities with the technologically advanced Quinjets used by the heroes and heroines from Marvel Cinematic Universe.
      • EVA, also known as Electronic Versatile Agent, is a reference to the Electronic Video Agent (EVA) which is a battle interface and massive database which was gradually developed into pseudo-A.I.s from Command & Conquer: Tiberium Wars.

  • Chapter 68: Journey to Vacuo
    • The I.D. Cards given to the members of Team Beacon by Ciel Soleil possesses different clearance levels that are similar to those seen in the MCU's Clearance Level.
    • The Crystallus Libro Vitae (aka The Book of the Crystal of Life) has its cover's concept designs significantly influenced from the Comic Books and Young Adult Novels of The Dark Crystal.
      • The keys to unlock the Crystallus Libro Vitae, which was gifted by Sharp Strike to Jaune Arc and Pyrrha Nikos, are based off the outlook design of the Key to Vector Sigma from Transformers: Prime from the Transformers series. The said keys are also attuned to their personal unique aura signature, which is also another trait of the Key to Vector sigma.
      • The Crystal Monastery was said to be located in a desolate region of Mistral known as the Dark Woods, which is also the name of a place mentioned in The Dark Crystal's young adult novel Shadow of the Dark Crystal (written by J.M. Lee).
    • The weapon-crafting Fabricator machine seen in the Hyperion One's armory has influences taken from the Fabricator introduced in Gears of War 4.
    • The Weapon Rearmament Capsules that N1CK3L shows Team Beacon are based off the Ordnance Pods (aka Materiel Acquisition Pods) from Halo.
    • The Last Chance Bar, which Qrow visits in Vacuo's capital, shares the same name as a bar of the same name seen in Iron Man 2013 Comic.
    • The stealth airship that the Spring Maiden Amethyst Rilo boards to take her to the Kingdom of Vacuo is named Breath of the Wild Storms, which is a reference to the video game title The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
    • N1CK3L's right hand and arm was revealed to be able to transform into a weapon similar to the Projected Energy Propulsion System (P.E.P.S.) from Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.

  • Chapter 70: The Board is Set
    • A number of locations mentioned in the continent of Solitas are based off certain locations from the Halo Franchise.
      • The Atlesian City of Aszod is based off a place of importance in Halo: Reach.
      • Camp Independence shares the same name as a UNSC military encampment in the Highland Mountains on planet Reach.
    • Sherizawa being assigned to raid a weapons lab within the military base named Europa, which has a secret weapon said to be an incredibly powerful cannon of sorts, is possibly referring to the first mission of Call Of Duty Infinite Warfare, where the Settlement Defense Front (SDF) mounted a similar operation.
    • The temple archivists and temple guardians are inspired by the Disciples and Guardians of the Whills from Guardians of the Whills.
      • Chiyen Braun's (an Archivist and Priest) character design and personality are based off Chirrut Îmwe from Rogue One, albeit with some significant changes.
      • Bjorn Sublam's (a Temple Guardian) character design and personality resembles that of Baze Malbus from Rogue One as well.

    • Admiral Nemo's ship, the Nautilus II, seen in this chapter shares the same name as the Nautilus from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.
    • The twin-barreled anti-ship cannon emplacements that protect Margarite Harbor are inspired by the Anti-Kaiju Cannons from Pacific Rim: Uprising.
      • Margarite Harbor's Atlas army headquarter's overall design also bears some resemblances to the PPDC's (Pan Pacific Defense Corps) Sydney Headquarters.
    • The 212th Assault Battalion, stationed on board the carrier battle cruiser Nautilus II, are based off the 212th Attack Battalion of the Grand Army of the Republic from Star Wars.
      • Alestian Commander Cody, who serves under Admiral Aqua Nemo in this chapter, is modeled after CC-2224 Clone Commander Cody from Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
    • Some of the Atlesian battleships' names, such as the Dauntless and Vengeance, are references to SATO's (Solar Associated Treaty Organization) warships from Call Of Duty Infinite Warfare.
    • A conversation between two sentry guards at Fort Valor mentioned Thrashball, which was a sports game from Gears of War. The Cougars were also mentioned as well, which was one of the Thrashball teams Augustus "Cole Train" Cole played in.
    • Nashville, which was Flynt Coal's hometown, references Nashville in the real world which is the capital and most populous city of the U.S. state of Tennessee, known to be a haven for musicians and music-loving individuals.
    • General Ironwood's personal company on board the Resolute was known by its famed designation of Ironwood's Gauntlet, which references the same type of designation for the 501st Legion from Star Wars, which was also known as the 501st Battalion or Vader's Fist.
    • Lieutenant Commander Warfield, who has been name-dropped in this chapter, has the same name as General Horace Warfield of the Terran Dominion from Starcraft II.
    • The concept design of the Winter Templar's floating fortress vessel The Indomitable Bastion was primarily inspired by the Space Marine warships of Warhammer 40,000, especially taking influence from Phalanx of the Imperial Fists.
      • The pre-battle creed of the Winter Templars Knight Legion of the Remnant Knights, which was chanted by a call/response series is based upon the Badass Creed of the Covenant's Elites from Halo 2.

    • A Vacuo Ranger Lieutenant's name was mentioned to be named Khalil, which alludes to Lieutenant Zeyad Khalil from Call of Duty: Black Ops III.
    • During the chase battle between members of Team Beacon and the agents of Salem on the Abu Dhabi expressway, several of the fight sequences are inspired by the highway battle between Project Freelancer and Insurrection agents in Season 9 Episode 17 Spiral of the Project Freelancer arc of the popular machinima Red vs. Blue.

  • Chapter 74: Salem Strikes Part IV: Friends and Enemies
    • A combat medic named Marcoh responded to Admiral Nemo's request for urgent help, sharing the same name as Tim Marcoh from Fullmetal Alchemist.
    • The Tyrant Elder Grimm's Inferno Plasma Heat Blast was inspired by the Dinobot Grimlock's Breath Weapon attack from Transformers: Fall of Cybertron.
    • The prototype pulse spectral array cannon that was stolen by Sherizawa from the secret Atlesian military facility known as Europa base was based off a similar weapon used by the Settlement Defense Front's (SDF) warship Olympus Mons in Call Of Duty Infinite Warfare.
    • The Winter Templars Knight Legion's way of deploying their entire Legion's military might to rescue Hephaestus City was similar to how the Dark Angels, Imperial Fists and Ultramarines Space Marine Chapters' deployment when waging war in the Warhammer 40,000 Universe.
      • The design and weapons loadout of the Heavy Assault Tank of the Winter Templars known as Determinatus closely resembles the Land Raider Terminus Ultra.

  • Chapter 75: Salem Strikes Part V: Crisis Escalation
    • The battle taking place at Ramses Station between the Vacuo Rangers and the Red Fang is loosely inspired by a similar battle that took place in the same location in Call of Duty: Black Ops III.
    • The heavy assault tanks of the Kingdom of Vacuo's elite Desert Guard are based off the Mammoth Mk. III tanks of the Global Defense Initiative from Command & Conquer: Tiberium Wars.
    • Coco Adel mentions "What's the sitch?" during the fight with the Elder Deathworm, which is a line used by Kim Possible in the Kim Possible animated series.
    • The Elder Grimm variant of the Sanus Deathworm, also known as the Sand Devourer, was primarily based upon the Arrakis Sandworms from the Dune series in terms of its concept design and overall behavior.
      • Coco, during the battle with the Elder Deathworm, also quips a Furmanism which is part of the repeated dialogue concepts made famous by Transformers writer Simon Furman, most specifically the one with regards to one's indigestion.

  • Chapter 76: Salem Strikes Part VI: Counter Attack
    • Commander Central of the elite Atlesian covert ops team Task Force Omega uses a Multi-purpose assault rifle as his primary weapon, which is also the signature weapon of Central Officer John Bradford from XCOM 2.
    • A couple of the fight scenes involving Amethyst Rilo (aka The current Spring Maiden) were inspired by the fighting sequences involving the cyborg Raiden from Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of The Patriots.
    • The special bullet used by Sharp Strike to save Heliosia Ainea (aka The current Summer Maiden) from the insectoid Grimm was based off the specially-designed bolt shells used by the Dark Angels and the Grey Knights Space Marine Chapters from Warhammer 40,000.

  • Chapter 78: Salem Strikes Part VIII: Rising Action
    • Headmistress Luna Aria mentions the city-wide order to protect the Vacuo City (which is the capital city of the Kingdom of Vacuo) which was codenamed The Alf Layla wa-Layla Protocol, which is the a reference to the compilation Arabian Nights's original name as "One Thousand and One Nights" .
    • Chiyen's fighting style with his lamp staff is based off Chirrut Îmwe, one of the Guardians of the Whills from Rogue One.
    • During Chiyen's usage of his Semblance to read Dr. Watt's mind, he found out that one of Watt's fake names is Maxwell Edison, which is a double reference to Thomas Edison as well as the Beatles' song Maxwell's Silver Hammer, which is a song about a guy who murders people with a hammer.
    • The heavy repeater cannon used by Bjorn Sublam of the Temple Guardians is based upon the MWC-35c "Staccato Lightning" repeating cannon used by Baze Malbus in Rogue One.
    • N1CK3L's Aile Integrated Armor Pack battle suit's many armaments and aerial abilities draws inspiration from both the GAT-X105 Aile Strike Gundam and MBF-02 Strike Rogue Gundam from Mobile Suit Gundam SEED.
      • The suit up sequence for N1CK3L into his new battle suit was partially based upon the various armors of MCU's Iron Man.

  • Chapter 79: Salem Strikes Part IX: Victory
    • The arrival and combat doctrine of the 55th Wolf Hunters of the Vacuo's elite Desert Guard was based upon the Tempestus Scions of the Militarium Tempestus from Warhammer 40,000.
    • The Titan Tanks used by the Atlesian military forces are inspired by the T-600 Titan Main Battle Tank from Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.
    • The highly-advanced and maneuverable Avenger Gunship Hyperion Minor's design and weaponry is based off the different variants of Quinjets used by S.H.I.E.L.D. and The Avengers from The Avengers (2012).
    • Jaune demonstrating why he was leader of Team JNPR and one of the co-leaders of Team Beacon by coming up with a workable and believable strategy to take on the Sphinx Elder Grimm as well as its accompanying Manticores, which is similar to what Captain America did during The Battle for New York against the Chitauri in The Avengers (2012).

  • Chapter 80: Salem Strikes Part X: Fire and Ice
    • The deployment scene of Snow Blade and his Winter Templars detachment into battle is based upon the modus operandi of the Silver Templars Primaris Space Marines from Warhammer 40,000.
    • The Grimm Knight variants which attacked the Winter Templars detachment led by Snow Blade were inspired by the Hammer Drones from Iron Man 2 in terms of their weapon loadouts and character designs.
    • Salem's rebuke to Elsa the Winter Maiden after stealing her Maiden powers was based off a quote by Grand Admiral Thrawn from Star Wars Rebels.

    • Heliosia's comforting words to Amethyst during their sisterly moment in the Shade Academy's Archives are inspired by a few dialogue scenes between Princess Anna and Queen Elsa from Frozen II.
    • The secret maps to find two of the Relics of Remnant are mentioned to be protected by special enchantments which prevents them from being copied, which is similar to the map to Cyberutopia in the The Transformers: More than Meets the Eye comic series.

  • Chapter 83: Towards A Darker Tomorrow
    • The Knight Order's emergency evacuation protocols for the Maidens are codenamed Eternal Spring, Endless Summer, Forever Fall and Deep Winter, which are based off the names of various UNSC A.I.s (Artificial Intelligence) mentioned in Halo: Ghosts of Onyx.
    • Some of Heliosia’s dialogue when revealing herself as the Summer Maiden is partially based off Aloy’s conversation with the Nora Tribe’s High Matriarchs after discovering her true orgins in Horizon Zero Dawn.
    • Heliosia's open display of her Summer Maiden powers to the people of Vacuo City (i.e. conjuring up a huge flaming phoenix) is inspired by a similar scene which involves a Space Marine Librarian from the Warhammer 40,000 Universe.
    • Hong Long's character design, during Salem's flashback, was based upon the outfits and weaponry of both Lord Sumeragi and Lord Ryoma, while Lan Feng's character concept drew references from Queen Mikoto's outfits and weapons, which were all from Fire Emblem Fates.

  • Chapter 85: A Time To Mourn
    • The Atlesian town of Arendal, which is mentioned to be located on a long and wide fjord, is both a reference to Arendal, is a municipality in Agder county in southeastern Norway, and also to Arendelle, the central location of Disney's Frozen movie series.
    • One of the paintings within the Kalter Berg cathedral was reminiscent of the coronation of Queen Elsa of Arendelle, with the outfit based off her fifth spirit form from Frozen II.
    • The parents of Elsa the Winter Maiden are named Hanson and Idurina respectively.
      • The former is a reference to Hans Christian Andersen, the author of the fairy tale The Snow Queen which inspired Disney's Frozen movie.
      • The latter is a reference to both Queen Iduna, mother of Anna and Elsa from Disney's Frozen; and Idina Menzel, the voice actress of Queen Elsa of Arendelle and singer of her songs.
    • During the Winter Maiden's funeral, Sharp Strike recalls a tale from an ancient book he read from Tintagel's archives which was mentioned to be written before the moon was shattered, and it was heavily implied to be William Shakespeare's Hamlet.
      'Now cracks a noble heart. Good night, sweet princess; and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.'

  • Chapter 86: Promises
    • Vasilisa Afanasyev's (who is also a previous bearer of the Winter Maiden's power) statue in the Winter Maiden shrine is partially inspired by Queen Elsa of Arendelle's heroic moment of saving Arendelle in Frozen II.
      • Vasilisa Afanasyev is also a reference to Vasilisa the Beautiful, the female heroine of a Russian fairy tale who encountered Baba Yaga, a mysterious and supernatural being.
    • Anne Vorst's, the younger sister of Elsa Vorst, character design is based off Princess Anna from Disney's Frozen.
      • Anne mentioned that she was engaged to Lieutenant Kristopher Bjorgman of the Atlas military's 332rd Icebreaker Company, which is a reference to Queen Anna's engagement to Kristoff Bjorgman in the epilogue of Frozen II.
      • The 332rd Icebreaker Company of the Atlas military forces is both a reference to Kristoff's occupation as a ice harvester, and also to the 501st's 332nd Company that took part in the Battle of Mandalore in Star Wars: The Clone Wars (Season 7).
    • The heavy armor suits worn by the Atlesian soldiers standing guard at Atlas Military Headquarters are based off the Umojan Protectorate Heavy Infantry Armor from Starcraft II, while their upgraded assault rifles are inspired by the C-14 Rifles used by the Terran Marines.
    • An additional two goddesses of Remnant were mentioned to the already known Brothers of Light and Darkness; the Sisters of the Sun and Moon, is a reference to Princess Celestia and Luna from My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic.

    • The code that Ashe Kasai had Sharp Strike repeat during their conversation is from the movie Dragonheart.

    RWBY Fandom Examples 

  • Jaune Arc's hometown of Cadia in Chapter 38 is a reference to the same city-state of Cadia as mentioned in Smstanton's RWBY fanfic named 4 Years of Beacon.
    • Amusingly, Cadia is also the name of the Fortress World right at the Eye of Terror's doorstep in Warhammer 40,000.
  • Taiyang's personal weapon, which are flamethrower gauntlets, and fighting style might be a reference to the same weapon mentioned in therealfearjunkie's RWBY fanfic named Answer To Me.
  • Ozpin exchanging a very specific code and passphrase with the Remnant Knight Shadow Reaper, references him doing the same with Future!Ruby Rose to confirm her identity in Hysterical Clerical Hijinks's RWBY fanfic named Remnant's Reclaimer.
  • Argentius's title Grimmslayer, which was given to him by Lord Emmanuel and mentioned in Chapter 51, is a reference to the legendary Grimmslayers mentioned in Kraven Ergeist's RWBY fanfic named Resurgence.
  • Alexandra Maximilius, who is the current Head Chancellor of the Atlas Council in this fic, shares similarities with Martha Sinclair (who is the Vice Chancellor of the Atlas Council and the Head of National Defense, and also Glynda Goodwitch's mother) from PaulXion's RWBY Fanfic named RWBY Tomorrow and Never Again.
  • Sharp Strike's Vigil, seen in Chapter 54, references the The Vigil conducted by Jaune Arc for the deceased Pyrrha Nikos in HyLarryous's RWBY Fanfic named The Vigil.
  • Captain Gregory White of the Atlesian Airborne Assault Carrier Spirit of Winter shares the same last name with General Hayden White from Burning Cinder's Darker and Edgier RWBY Fanfic named Nora's Life.
  • Nora joking that Jaune could secretly be an incredibly powerful dragon with formidable magic powers who can both fly and breathe fire in disguise as a human form is a reference to another version of Jaune seen in azndrgn's RWBY Fanfic named Jaune Ryu-Long, the Dragon Contractor.
  • This particular example is more of a coincidence, since the concept of Cinder and Ashe being siblings had also been explored in Cosmic Fiction's fanfic RWBY The Knights Of Grimm series, which also involves Cinder being siblings with Kassius as well.
