Fanfic / Fuzzboy Total Pokemon Series

Go To

The Fuzzboy TPI Series is an ongoing series of SYOC Total Drama and Pokémon crossover fanfictions, created and written by a large amount of authors, the only consistent one of which being Fuzzboy. While most of the stories began as solitary projects, Fuzzboy quickly jumped onto them, with all the stories eventually being connected through a mutual continuity.

The Xtreme Series:

  • Total Xtreme Island revolves around a Dragonite and a Tyranitar starting up their own Total Drama-style competition, and invite twenty four(later twenty five) completely different Pokémon to their island, where they compete for one million Poké. The season's primary writer was DeltaXtreme, with Fuzzboy later acting as the co-writer from chapter fifteen and onwards.

  • Total Xtreme Action is a sequel season to Total Xtreme Island, taking place two and half years later, where two new hosts bring back ten contestants from the island, along with twelve new faces, and have the cast compete on an abandoned film lot. The season's primary writer is once again Delta, with Fuzzboy returning as co-writer.

Fuzzy Memories

  • Fuzzy Memories: Total Drama Island acts as a reimagining of Total Drama Island, taking twenty four contestants from the Xtreme series(TXI-TXWT) and the Alphabetical series, and basically rebooting the timeline, inspiring new friendships, conflicts, alliances, romances, and most all, drama! The series is currently on-going. The season's writers are Delta and Fuzzboy.

Alphabetical Series

  • Total Pokemon Alphabetical revolves around a trio of legandaries starting up their own gameshow, where they bring twenty six contestants(all with names that begin with a different letter) to a once-inhabited island, where they compete in alphabet-themed challenges. This series is currently on-going. The season's primary writer is xebla, with Fuzzboy acting as co-writer. The series is notable for being a reboot of Xebla's previous work.

The Franchise Contains Examples of:

  • Aborted Arc: Juvia's necklace was originally supposed to have a much larger purpose to the story. It mysteriously disappears from the plot after Fuzzboy becomes the co-writer.
  • Academic Athlete: Chad played football in college before he graduated.
  • The Ace: Dante is this when referring to the competition itself, acting as a major challenge beast.
  • Acquired Situational Narcissism: Brick had a bit of an ego, but just how big of one it truly is depends on the episode and the circumstances. Sometimes it could be quite minor in favor of beating the challenge, and other times, just how "badass" he is and admiring this fact becomes the main part of his personality.
  • Acrofatic: Kai and Starrk are fairly overweight compared to the rest of the cast, but both are just as capable of keeping up with the others, though they usually lag behind just slightly.
  • Action Girl:
    • Tempest was established as a very strong and incredibly dangerous competitor during the merge of TXI, and became one within the first episode of FMTDI.
    • Reyna is the strongest among the female cast(at least during Total Xtreme Island), and is also among the rudest and most willing to fight.
    • Nazira is quick to anger and violence if someone pushes her far enough, but usually she tries to keep a calm head.
    • Sylvia is physically the strongest among the TXWT noobs(besides Casper, who played football), and is quick to jump into something if it means upholding the law.
  • Adaptational Heroism: This isn't the first time we've seen some of the cast in a story, and the series decided to adapt them in a more likable light:
    • Hazel usually is portrayed as unbelievably egotistical, to a point of where nobody ever wants anything to do with him and can't stand the guy's mere existence, and the fact he is so unabashedly rude to others doesn't help. While he certainly begins the series this way, by the end of TXI, he's undergone a complete Heel–Face Turn, and by TXWT, is easily one of the nicest among the entire cast.
    • Tempest is usually just portrayed as psychotic and completely blind to reality with minimal redeeming qualities. The Xtreme series stays mostly true to this, that is before she begins dating Zetsu. From that point onward, she actually slowly begins treating others with more respect and even occasionally shows a soft side. And oddly, she's actually developed an odd kind of bond with everyone in the final seven of TXI(besides Isaac).
  • Adaptational Villainy: This isn't the first time we've seen some of the cast in a story, and the series decided to adapt them in a more unlikable light:
    • Ace is far more aggressive and downright cruel in FMTDI due to a lack of a Morality Pet to keep him calm and passive.
    • Doc in FMTDI, due to him being slightly younger and thus having not grown completely used to how to treat others yet. He's still a good person though, having a moment of realization on how horrible he was treating the others, and then ultimately trying to make it up to them.
    • Jet is seen as the prime example of a stoic character in most stories, but instead, he actually becomes a Broken Ace after TXI due to losing a fight to Tempest. After that, he becomes a {{Jerkass} and treats absolutely nobody with respect, eventually becoming the most universally disliked contestant overall...Including Gareth!
    • Sally...Usually is just a nice girl with nothing else very interesting about her really, usually just being used to kind of develop Jet. By TXWT, she has grown a grudge against relationships, and is now completely against them, to a point of where she actually emailed everyone in the cast, telling them to end their relationships and become single. The only contestant close to Jet's unlikability.
  • Adults Are Useless: Zetsu, Doc, and the interns of TXA intentionally invoke this in "My Screaming Halloween" in order to accurately get across the feeling of a slasher movie, abandoning the cast to be picked off by a Serial Killer.
  • Affectionate Parody:
    • The entire franchise serves as one of the Total Drama series as a whole, due to it being it's primary inspiration, with FMTDI even taking the original series' challenges and just expanding upon them for the FF/DA audience.
    • Several episodes, characters, and moments from across the series take direct inspiration from Survivor, Big Brother, and The Amazing Race.
    • The entirety of the Fuzzy Memories series is one for the original Xtreme and Alphabetical series, which is to be expected since their creators are making it.
    • Nearly every episode of TXA could be seen as this towards different genres of the movie industry, and it shows with just how jammed packed the episodes are in terms of references. Even the episode names are references!
      • "Close Encounters of the Robotic Kind": Of Alien movies.
      • "The Day Before Tomorrow": Of Disaster movies.
      • "Patch Them Up Adams!": Of Medical movies.
      • "Field of the Raging Losers": Of Sports movies.
      • "Dawn of the Walking Dead": Of Zombie movies.
      • "The Recall of Metrocity": Of Sci-Fi movies.
      • "Ocean's Unusual Job": Of Heist movies.
      • "Enchanted Labyrinth": Of Fantasy movies.
      • "About Last Night": Of Romance movies.
      • "My Screaming Halloween": Of Slasher movies.
      • "The Rotom Identity!": Of Spy movies.
      • "The Traitorous Private Droog": Of War movies.
      • "Runs in the Family": Of Family Comedy movies.
      • "Can't Save the Tight World": Of Superhero movies.
      • "Lethally Heated Run": Of Buddy movies.
      • "The Bug, The Gecko, & The Psychic": Of Western movies.
      • "Kyah BC": Of Prehistoric movies.
      • "Murder on the Dramatic Express": Of Murder Mystery movies.
      • "Top Bird": Of Animal Buddy movies.
  • All Animals Are Dogs: The population of wild Bidoof have some traits comparable to that of domesticated dogs.
  • All Girls Want Bad Boys: Harper is implied to have feelings towards Dante, who's among the most violent and serious contestants in the series.
  • All-Loving Hero: Kanaya treats absolutely everyone as if they're her best friend, even the biggest villains. Taken to a whole new level when she ends up being the first person to befriend Droog.
  • All Men Are Perverts:
    • Alfred can accidentally come off as pretty perverted, which is to be expected of a teenager, but still.
    • Chad certainly isn't above making rather crude comments towards sex. Not to mention he's bizarrely completely open about going in detail on his previous sexual experiences with his college flings.
    • Doc makes sexual comments quite a bit, and as confirmed in TXA, he's actually into BDSM.
  • All of the Other Reindeer: Bari is quite literally the only newbie of the TXA cast who was completely despised by the entire cast, not because he's a bad guy, but moreso for the fact that he's...Kinda disgusting in terms of habits and hygiene. But it ends up ultimately Averted, as after his elimination, the fanbase both in and out of universe fell in love with the guy.
  • All or Nothing: The shows run on this principle, as there is no mention of runner ups receiving any compensation.
  • All Women Are Lustful: Penelope has to have sex at least once a week, so it's sorta expected.
  • Aloof Dark-Haired Girl: Played With in Maria's case; she's one of the tallest contestants(much taller than the usual Cacturne), one of the oldest and most mature even with her own little quirks, and acts very distant compared to everyone else due to her social issues, though otherwise doesn't really represent this trope too much.
  • Alpha Bitch:
    • Sage is seen as among the rudest female contestant in the cast, often instigating conflicts where there wasn't any originally and overall acting very hostile. The fact that she seems to place herself on a pedestal higher than everyone else doesn't help. Gets slightly better in the Xtreme series due to becoming a slightly better person, but plays this straight in the Fuzzy Memories series.
    • Giselle is basically a generic seductress in the beginning, and through manipulating the male cast, ends up becoming among the most popular contestants on the island, and she gladly abuses this power of her's in order to get what she wants and eliminate those who cross her.
    • Greta, who's a psycho who constantly harasses and bullies everyone in the game while making herself the "undisputed" leader of the Mysterious Mesprit.
    • Odetta, who's The Slacker of the entire franchise overall, and is very rude to every contestant, including Alfred, who's the only player who actually tries to be her friend.
    • Penelope is among the rudest players, who goes out of her way to bother the male members for possible sex, all while treating everyone on the show like garbage and like she's smarter than them.
    • Veronica was created as a direct Expy of this trope as a whole, taking on all the characteristics of your bratty, spoiled popular girl.
  • Alternate Continuity: The Fuzzy Memories series exists to tell a different story with a similar premise and the same characters. None of the events in this series are canon to the main series, instead having its own continuity.
  • Amazonian Beauty: Zetsu sees Tempest as very pretty(despite being a spider), and the girl just so happens to possibly be the strongest and most dangerous contestant in the entire series.
  • Amazon Chaser:
    • Ace fell for Cynthia, a yakuza princess! Seems like Ace prefers women who're stronger than him, and about equal in terms of intelligence.
    • Chad ends up falling for Sage eventually due to her being the only person who can truly keep up with him physically. Certainly helps that she has an attitude, which he seems bizarrely into.
    • Valin is Happily Married to Tamara, who is the tougher and much more determined side of the pairing.
    • Zetsu is in love with Tempest, an absolutely insane, extremely violent, miraculously strong, and bizarrely determined girl who is more than willing to take on just about anything...Did we mention this guy is the Only Sane Man of the cast.
  • Ambiguously Bi:
    • Brick was basically created to a Manly Man character, and yet he seems oddly attracted to some guys. Word of God went on to later he is in fact bisexual.
    • Doc is currently dating Mimi, but doesn't seem to mind all of the attention he was getting from Monsoon while he was singing, and has on-occasion flirted with other males in a joking manner(including Zetsu).
  • Ambiguously Brown: Several characters have been hinted at being different nationalities, but some have been confirmed via Word of God:
    • Kai is African-American.
    • Mimi is Egyptian.
    • Nazira is a Brazilian/Indian mix.
  • Ambiguously Gay:
    • Colton has a crush on Tyson, but in the past he had shown some interest in women in terms of looking.
    • Gareth has been flirted with by a surprising number of males, and oddly doesn't really seem to mind it much. Though he won't mind it if you start being a creep like Hyde or Kaden. Either way, he doesn't seem to mind the attention too much.
    • Oddly enough, Max! Despite being a terrified Dirty Coward for most of the series, the few times he has shown attraction or interest was around other males.
    • Shrill apparently kind of enjoyed her forced kiss with Purugly...It's just that it's Purugly that causes her to be disgusted.
  • Amusing Injuries:
    • Dante accidentally knocking out Randy in "Alphabet Assembles!" He makes it up to the rat by taking care of him for the rest of the episode. By the end they're implied to be on good terms.
    • Josephine is humorously thrown out of the Unique Uxie base through a dirty trick.
    • Anyone who gets hurt due to Bari's stench.
  • Angry Black Woman: Nazira can come across as...Honestly pretty despicable when she's mad about something. She generally tries to avoid being this though.
  • Animals Hate Him:
    • Brick was particularly harassed by a Ducklett named Julie for a decent portion of the merge, to a point of being his Arch-Enemy.
    • Droog has the worst luck with just about every wild Pokemon.
  • Annoying Laugh: Devereux's snickering is described in-universe as both annoying and infuriating.
  • Antagonistic Offspring: Isabel has openly stated she dislikes her mother due to her horrid treatment of her father. Did we mention her mother is Lorrein?"
  • Anyone Can Get Eliminated: The series focuses on highly competitive shows that sorta relies on backstabbing for much of the drama, and along with that, Fuzzboy has become heavily associated with unpredictable elimination orders in general.
  • Arch-Enemy:
    • Greta and Wanda, due to Wanda being cop who's very pro-authority, and thus always tries to stop the sadistic mutt from hurting others.
    • Reyna and Sage are sworn enemies to one another from as early as the second episode of TXI.
    • Turns out Juvia still hasn't really forgiven Devereux, and seems to be one of the few people she hates, and he returns the hate. Cynthia, Reyna, and Starrk seem to have become this for her now as well.
    • During the merge, Brick and a wild Ducklett named Julie quickly become this to each other.
    • Droog and Starrk absolutely despise one another, and will commonly go out of their own way just to mercilessly mock the other.
  • Arrogant Kung-Fu Guy: Pre-Character Development, Thunder was both one of the most athletic and most unrepentantly horrible contestants on the show. By the time he was eliminated in TXI, he had no friends, and nobody was sad to see him go by any means.
  • The Artifact: Both Jet and Sally's roles in the series have been rendered completely obsolete by the existence of Droog, Dante, Isabel, and the new role of Izaya, all of which basically serve the same points as their plots, only as better characters and by feeling less like fodder. There is largely no reason they should ever return. Which is why Word of God confirmed they never will, even in potential reboots.
  • Ascended Extra: In the Xtreme series, Amber and Logan were just the hosts of the Xtreme Manhunt and never really had a major role. In Fuzzy Memories, they're actually the new hosts.
  • Ascended Fanboy: Prior to joining the series, Hercule and Isabel were some of the TXI's biggest fans.
  • Asian and Nerdy:
    • Alfred is among the biggest nerds in the series, and Word of God has confirmed him as being of Korean descent.
    • Nedrick is implied to be of Japanese descent, and is obsessed with trying to become an amazing ninja.
  • Asshole Victim: Some of the eliminations across the series have been far more satisfying than sympathetic to say the least.
    • Both times Hyde left in TXI, the entire cast had hated his guts up to that point due to his unlikable personality and complete lack of redeeming qualities, leading to his unsurprising but unimaginably satisfying eliminations. Surprisingly Averted in the case of his TXA elimination though, due to him actually having Took a Level in Kindness and getting out in a pretty disturbing way.
    • Jet openly stated that he didn't trust anyone on his team in TXI, so it's really no surprise that when he left that same episode that nobody really missed him(besides Sally). Only showcased further in TXWT, because by that point he quite literally had no redeeming qualities, making his elimination due to sabotaging his own team in an effort to prove that he could and since he knew the others would ''totally'' vote off tempest over him that much more amazing.
    • Thunder's horrible personality and his action of dating Ashley just to have sex with her left him with no friends and no sympathizers by the time he was eliminated.
    • Devereux was a literal sociopath who outright psychologically and physically tortured those around him simply because it amused him, so his elimination left none of the cast caring much about his injuries.
    • Downplayed in both cases, but Max and Ace in TXI had done some noticeably awful things in their elimination episodes, making said eliminations a lot more satisfying as an end result. Ace also became this in FMTDI, due to his horrible temper and lack of respect for his teammates.
    • Up to her elimination, Giselle had been a cruel and ultimately downright rude seductress villain who caused a large amount of drama for just about everyone on the island, leaving none sad(and some actually celebrating) at her elimination.
    • Upon burning Izaya with a fire attack, Reyna lost all of her supportive friends and basically became a social outcast once more, leading to nobody pitying her upon leaving.
    • Hercule intentionally invoked this trope for himself since he wanted to have a memorable send-off.
    • By the time she was leaving, Rest had no friends and everyone was terrified of her, so her elimination ended up causing the contestants to feel a lot more relief than anything else when she left.
    • Considering who she is up against, Cynthia might just be the biggest example of the entire series thus far. Throughout most of her time in the game, Cynthia had been treating Izaya as her Arch-Enemy, and thus went out of her way to try and get him out several times, but this ultimately culminated in her actually abandoning him to burn alive in a house fire! He escaped afterwards, and the entire cast agreed unanimously that she deserved to be the one sent home that week, as everyone said goodbye without any care towards her in their hearts. It even caps off with a "The Reason You Suck" Speech.
    • Starrk had attempted to basically nearly murder Sage that same day, so his elimination left nobody caring much for him.
    • Indigo was despised by the entire cast for being downright creepy, so no big surprise when no one cared too much at her elimination.
    • Sally had become a Hate Sink between TXI and TXWT due to her anti-relationship propaganda nearly tainting several people's love lives, meaning everyone was actually pretty happy when she got thrown out of the plane during her elimination.
    • Greta was an absolute psychopath with no redeeming qualities, who nearly killed someone...But surprisingly averted, as in the end, people actually did pity the girl after the horrible beating she got from Dante.
    • In FMTDI, Kaden was a lot less likable due to a complete lack of sympathetic qualities while constantly harassing Gareth for sex, meaning his elimination left nobody caring much, besides Nazira though, who was actually full of rage after the fox made a comment on Gareth being an idiot, leading to her actually attacking him.
  • Attention Whore: In a literal sense, Penelope wants to be noticed by the males so she can seduce and have sex with them, but her own unattractive appearance and personality wards off basically everyone.
  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: A platonic example with Izaya and Sage. The two often spend a majority of their time snarking at one another and get into small fights quite a bit, but the two clearly care a lot about each other, since the former sees the latter as his closest friend, while the latter actually sees the former as a Parental Substitute.
  • Ax-Crazy: Greta is so aggressive and hostile that she's more than willing to actually seriously maim contestants, and seems to actually enjoy it.
  • Back for the Dead: Hyde returns during Total Xtreme Island...Only to get eliminated in the next episode unceremoniously.
  • Back for the Finale: The eliminated contestants always return for the final episode to cheer on the finalists.
  • Badass Bookworm: Charles spends a majority of his time reading and writing books. Doesn't stop him from being among the smartest and most savvy players, easily creating strategies with minimal effort.
    • Downplayed, but still applies to Ace, who is able to keep up with the rest of the cast in intelligence alone, despite lacking in the physical department.
  • Badass Family: Oddly enough, it's established In-Universe that while the cast for the most part hates each other, they acknowledge that they're probably closer to one another than with most of their own families. The entire thing is basically written out as a dysfunctional relationship between a ton of complete strangers who grew close to one another whether they wanted to or not. And news flash, ninety percent of the cast can probably kick your ass.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: Droog was the Big Bad of Total Xtreme Action, and yet in the end, he came out as the winner of the whole competition.
  • Bandage Mummy:
    • Greta's fate after suffering at the hands of Dante involves now being in a wheelchair and is completely bandaged up.
    • Devereux receives a beating from Izaya that left him in barely living condition, and ultimately placed him inside a full-body cast.
  • The Bartender: Barkeep, the Big Bad of the entire franchise.
  • Bash Brothers: Doc and Zetsu constantly throw jabs at one another. They also have possibly the closest bond of the series.
  • Bears Are Bad News: The native wild Ursaring are the most aggressive and dangerous wild Pokemon on the islands.
    • Inverted in the case of Uri, who's actually one of the sweetest contestants on the show.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Isaac despises Giselle, and thus continuously tried to push her away in order to alter his relationship with Yu. In the end, it does alter his relationship with him, only instead of becoming his boyfriend, he ends up making Yu drift apart from him and destroys their friendship with along with it.
  • Becoming the Mask:
    • A subtle example, but slowly Gareth begins to grow dumber over the course of TXI, eventually ending up just barely smarter than the facade he had put on. He didn't adapt any of his facade's friendly personality though.
    • It's revealed early on in TXA that Droog is mostly playing up his temperament and aggressive personality in order to attract girls, but over the course of the season, it slowly becomes less and less of a facade due to Droog actually forgetting how he used to act due to a mix of both stress and constant showings that nobody truly gives a damn about him. By the end of the season though, he finally realizes how awful this facade made him as a person, leading to him deciding it's time to grow up and forget this side of his personality all together, instead deciding to find the old him again.
  • Belligerent Sexual Tension: Brick and Reyna argue quite a bit throughout the show, but regardless have feelings for one another. That is until they break up in Total Xtreme Action.
  • Berserk Button:
    • Insult either of the siblings, or underestimate them in any way, and you'll have to deal with Ace and especially Ashley.
    • If you bring up his past failures and rejections in a mocking manner, Alfred won't stand for it and will defend himself.
    • Not recognizing Benson or knowing any of the movies he's starred in pisses him off to no end.
    • A subtle example, but acting homophobic seems to be one for Chad.
    • The mere mention of Hyde or even Kaden at times has become one for Gareth.
    • Basically everything is this for Greta.
    • Isaac and Yu do not react well if you bring up their pasts.
    • Izaya can't stand it when others underestimate Juvia's intelligence. As the series continued, it seems to have become doing anything negative at all to her, Hazel, or Sage that causes him to instantly break into his Papa Wolf tendencies.
    • Juvia has developed a very unhealthily dangerous one that involves people hurting anyone she's close to, and she does not respond well.
    • Not using proper grammar is a major one for Lorrein.
    • Calling Veronica "fake" or insulting her in any way, and you'll regret it.
    • Breaking the law or going against the rules of the game is naturally this for the pro-authority Wanda.
  • Beware the Nice Ones:
    • Alfred's usually a friendly albeit very awkward guy, but mock him for his past rejections, and he can oddly be very intimidating.
    • Oddly enough, despite his violent personality, Dante's a friendly guy...Just don't do bad things around him, or else he'll do bad things to you.
    • Isabel is easily the kindest contestant among the TXA cast, but is unafraid to stand up for herself or her girlfriend, and is certainly not weak to boot.
    • Juvia may be a kind soul, but as of now is unafraid to stand up for herself or those she's close to, and seems to have actually developed a major Berserk Button towards anything hurting them. She's working on it though. But regardless, this button nearly caused both Cynthia and Reyna serious harm.
    • Kanaya has a heart of gold and is the definition of a mom trying to ship her children...But hurt Isabel, and you'll regret it!
    • While he doesn't do it intentionally, Quincy is an incredibly strong and accidentally dangerous individual completely unaware of his own strength, so maybe just get a little worried if he wants to hug you.
    • Uri's a great guy...But he's also a giant bear, so try your hardest to stay on his good side.
    • Zander is a decent guy who holds a solid moral structure and is friendly to a fault, but he also can't censor himself to save his life. He also won't standby and allow others be insulted or plotted against when they aren't around themselves, and is a very strong person in general, so an angry version of him is certainly a sight.
  • Big Bad: Every season has a main antagonist.
    • Total Pokemon Alphabetical: Elisha, Shrill, and Yavis share this role by acting as the villains for each of their teams.
    • Total Xtreme Island: Devereux, before being replaced by Gareth for the merge.
    • Total Xtreme Action: Cynthia and Starrk shared this role pre-merge, before being replaced by Droog for the merge.
  • Big Bad Ensemble: Gear up, we're gonna be here for awhile as we list off all the major villains the series has to offer.
    • Barkeep, the Big Bad of the Xtreme seasons as a whole, acting as the manipulative and cruel editor, producer, and challenge designer for the show. Notable actions include being responsible for Colton and Tyson's arrest in the Total Xtreme Island finale, conspiring with both Kyah and Starrk in order to rig the show to his liking, abusing private footage by using it as blackmail, and illegally employing several criminals in order to not spend money on additional interns.
    • Ace, a minor antagonist in both TXI and FMTDI, without a Morality Pet in the form of his sister, Ashley, or his girlfriend at the time, Cynthia, he becomes a very aggressive and downright hostile person who plays the game to win and nothing more, destroying past friendships and coming across as cruel. In both universes, he's trying to improve from this information.
    • Benson, a professional actor with a massive ego that's completely unbreakable, who holds an unbelievable belief that he deserves to only treated like that of a god, all while being an obnoxious and rude Jerkass.
    • Casper, probably the least antagonistic character shown here, he's a Camp Gay who actively causes trouble and makes situations worse simply because it amuses him, with him even admitting he wants nothing more than to see the world burn.
    • Charles, a British gentleman who treats others with respect unless they do not meet his high standards of a decent person, and is unbelievably pompous...Oh and he's single handedly the biggest and most threatening strategist on Alphabetical.
    • Cynthia, while a nice girl during Total Xtreme Island, ultimately fell to her father's high demand for success and the needs required from someone of her status, leading to her becoming bitter and downright cruel towards those she considers her enemies, all while acting like a child in how she handles situations and takes losses.
    • Devereux, a possibly sociopathic Jerkass who does whatever he wants whenever he wants for little reason than to cause chaos and piss people off, and even emotionally and physically tortures a large amount of contestants for his own amusement. Took a Level in Kindness upon beginning a relationship with Kaden.
    • Droog, a rude boy from a poor background, who goes out of his way to treat others terribly in order to mask his own depression, but occasionally allows his heart to show to certain people. The Big Bad of Total Xtreme Action.
    • Elisha, a woman of heavily influenced Christian belief who completely abides by the bible and prays to Arceus on a daily basis...Who's also heavily against non-heterosexual relationships, sharing any kind of sexual contact, doing anything "vulgar" in general, and holds possibly the largest case of "I'm not listening to your thoughts since they contrast from mine" in the world.
    • Gareth, a boy who puts on a mask of just being a stupid kid with a heart of gold, while in all reality he's a psychotic serial killer with a childish god complex, who even attempts to murder the cast after his elimination. The Big Bad of Total Xtreme Island.
    • Giselle, a seemingly generic seductress-type villain, whose sinister goals are eventually discovered and made public to the cast, causing her to eventually be seen as a joke. Revealed to actually be a pretty decent person outside of the game.
    • Greta, an incredibly violent and actively cruel mutt who attempted to take control of the game through brute force and torture, only to be taken out quickly due to intervention by a stronger force.
    • Hyde, a potentially unstable and unruly man who is several times hinted at being a pedophile. Took a Level in Kindness during Total Xtreme Action.
    • Ichiro, a former war veteran and the oldest contestant to ever compete, who is part of an alliance with Yanmega in their attempts to manipulate the game into their favor...Also apparently murdered a civilian during the war in cold blood.
    • Indigo, a sadistic and downright terrifying girl who spends her entire game harassing and mentally torturing those around her, simply because it amuses her on a personal level.
    • Josephine, a girl intentionally making herself seem as absolutely horrifying as possible in an attempt to intimidate the others into not voting her off.
    • Kaden, a prideful and outright rude jerk who several times sexually harasses men(notably Gareth under his facade) for sex, all while attempting to run the game with his alliance. Took a Level in Kindness after making amends with Hazel and becoming his friend.
    • Kirby, possibly the smartest contestant in the series in terms of IQ alone, he's a former criminal with a mysterious past, apparently having done something in the past he regrets heavily, but regardless is still a Jerkass who plans to take down his competition.
    • Kyah, on first sight a boring and completely lackluster contestant, who is later revealed to have been Barkeep's partner the whole time. She later breaks off the partnership, which ultimately leads to her elimination due to the others believing she's useless.
    • Monsoon, serving as Gareth's right hand man during his invasion of the island in TXI, he ultimately pulls a Heel–Face Turn due to his boss' poor treatment of him.
    • Penelope, a former porn star no longer employed due to her now ugly appearance, who as a result, has become incredibly aggressive and manipulative, focused entirely on trying to get laid while openly making others uncomfortable.
    • Rest, a completely non conversable little psycho who only says things relating to her species name, and is also known for being among the strongest and most dangerous contestants in history. Later revealed to have been experimented on by Ronoc, meaning we never actually have met the version of her before the experiments.
    • Ronoc, a mostly secluded and isolated scientist known for experimenting on those he deems as worth using for research, and a known danger to anyone around him, leading most to try their hardest to avoid him at all costs. Responsible for experimenting on Rest and multiple others, attempted to experiment on Hazel, and is allies with Indigo. Ultimate motivations currently unknown.
    • Shrill, an actively despised journalist who goes out of her own way to try and figure out people's secrets, just so she can reveal them to everyone and laugh in their faces while doing so.
    • Starrk, a lazy and hostile bum who seemingly takes very little seriously enough to give a damn about it, until he ultimately gets employed by Barkeep as a hitman of sorts, which continues until his elimination.
    • Tempest, an absolutely insane and certainly extremely dangerous girl who was raised to believe in some bizarre version of the world filled to the brim with demons and monsters that she believes she must slay, and is absolutely psychotic and potentially deadly in how she tries to accomplish this.
    • Uxie, the rude older brother of Azelf and Mesprit and primary editor of the Alphabet seasons, who is relentlessly cruel to his siblings and displays no empathy for anything he does.
    • Valentino, a rude and extremely egotistical man who tries to use flirtation and flattery as his main strategy, but he's absolutely awful at it, so nobody takes him seriously, but in the end, does that mean he's a bad strategist, or is this exactly what he wants?
    • Veronica, a spoiled rich girl who treats everyone else like they're garbage(and an Expy of Heather), who plans to play the game in any way she can in order to win the grand prize and keep the others in their place; below her.
    • Wanda, a heavily pro-authority police officer commonly insulted due to her own size and admittedly less than useful skill set, which causes her to have a Hair-Trigger Temper and downright cruel personality towards others.
    • Yavis, a Large Ham who loves flying and use to serve in the air force in the army, who acts as the leader of an alliance between him and Ichiro, who are attempting to manipulate the game into their favor.
  • Big Brother Is Watching: Barkeep is the primary editor of the Xtreme series, and has expertly hidden millions of camera across both seasons to get any shot he wants from anywhere...Usually for malevolent reasons.
  • Big Damn Heroes: After seemingly being abandoned at the bottom of a canyon for who knows how long, Bari and Hercule show up in a bus and save the cast, bringing them back to civilization.
  • Big Man on Campus: Chad is well liked by the other contestants, and has the athletic capabilities and personality to back it up quite well. If the series took place in high school, he'd definitely be considered the most popular guy in school.
  • Big Sister Instinct:
    • Kanaya is basically the closest thing to a Cool Big Sis in the cast with how she acts, and often jumps to the aid of anyone who's in a bad situation.
    • In FMTDI, Nazira quickly takes on the role of being a very protective and friendly friend towards all of the dumber or weaker contestants who can't stand up for themselves.
  • Big, Thin, Short Trio:
    • Ashley as the big, Sage as the thin, and Juvia as the short.
    • Dante as the big, Harper as the thin, and Randy as the short.
  • Birds of a Feather:
    • A friendship version in the case of Ichiro and Yavis, who both share previous combat experience in the military.
    • Alfred and Odetta, who're the youngest contestants on the show at eighteen, and bond over similar interests in drugs.
  • Bittersweet Ending: The finales by default are this, as no matter what in the end, only one contestant ends the season as the winner, leaving the other finalists receiving absolutely nothing for their efforts in the competition.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Gareth is ultimately revealed to be the Big Bad of Total Xtreme Island, and was secretly hiding his personality by pretending to just be a childish moron.
  • Black-and-White Insanity: Elisha seems to suffer from a case of believing that there is no middle ground between right and wrong, and even more than that, seems incapable of changing her feelings towards someone's actual morality no matter how much it's brought into question.
  • Blind Date: Tempest actually wins her first date with Zetsu in a challenge...And then kidnaps him. It went surprisingly well considering she's a deranged psycho and he's an anxiety ridden workaholic(they actually have kids now).
  • Blonde, Brunette, Redhead:
    • Ashley as the blonde, Juvia as the brunette, and Sage as the redhead.
    • Charles as the blonde, Nedrick as the brunette, and Tamara as the redhead.
  • Blood Knight: Dante and Tempest are unabashedly the most violent contestants in the entire series, and while the former will never admit it, both love themselves a good fight.
  • Body Horror: Devereux's fate after Izaya savagely beat him for hurting Juvia was...Certainly not pretty.
  • Brainless Beauty: Juvia is among the kindest and most naive contestants, but is also considered very attractive in a more innocent way.
  • Break the Cutie:
    • Freya is traumatized mentally by Greta badly enough that she starts jumping at every random noise.
    • "Battle Blockade" seems focused on destroying Valin's moral grounds, and he's also very badly beaten by Greta.
    • The entire merge of Total Xtreme Island was relentless towards Juvia in terms of how much abuse she went through.
  • Break the Haughty:
    • Greta spends the entirety of "Alphabet Assembles!" getting her ass handed to her by just about every strong contestant.
    • Kaden is tortured throughout the challenge in "Ruins of Torture!", and is ultimately eliminated at the end of the same episode.
    • Thunder was shaved naked for immunity, before getting eliminated anyways during "Ruins of Torture!"
    • Devereux is beaten to near death by Izaya after he tortured Juvia both mentally and physically.
    • Giselle is humiliated and defeated by Hazel and Izaya during her elimination episode.
    • Gareth gets eliminated via totem-usage, leaving him shell-shocked and pissed.
  • Brutal Honesty: While still a Jerkass in some regards, Izaya is probably one of the most honest contestants in the series, only ever saying what's on his mind, and never actively attempting to lie in order to further his game.
  • The Bully: Greta goes out of her way to abuse her teammates mentally and physically just for her own amusement.
  • Bully and Wimp Pairing: Thunder and Max served as a primary example among Kaden's alliance during TXI, with the former being quite violent and vocally rude to everyone, while the latter was...Well a Dirty Coward wimp who spent a lot of his time on the show crying and whining.
  • Butt-Monkey:
    • Alfred's life back home is pretty awful, and it seems like no matter what he tries, he only exists to be a verbal punching bag to those around him.
    • Bari is the worst one of the entire franchise, hands down. Not only is he instantly outcasted because of his horrendous smell and disgusting hobbies, but basically everything goes out of its way to hurt him in terrible ways.
    • Things never go Brick's way, even after he wins TXI. He ends up losing the winnings from that season due to gambling, is constantly hurt by everything and everyone around him, wasn't allowed to rejoin for TXWT due to having already won, and in general, the universe seems kinda out to get him.
    • Droog has had a pretty awful life, and it seems like his luck is also pretty awful considering he's just as badly unlucky as even the worst among the butt monkeys.
    • Hazel rarely gets a break from bad things happening to him, usually getting humiliated or badly hurt at least once an episode.
    • Juvia throughout the entire merge of Total Xtreme Island.
    • Nedrick is incredibly unlucky in the fact he's a clumsy flyer and unaware of his surroundings, usually leading to him getting into incredibly painful crashes and getting himself hurt. But hey, he won't complain about it.
    • Randy's entire life before the game basically involved his own status as a child star ruining his life and turning him into a depressed alcoholic.
  • Camp Gay: Monsoon is unabashed in how overly flamboyant he acts, and is among the few gay contestants.
    • Played with in Casper's case, as he largely acts like the stereotype, but in all reality, his sexuality has never been confirmed.
  • Camp Straight:
    • Played with in Casper's case, as he largely acts like the Camp Gay stereotype, but in all reality, his sexuality has never been confirmed, and he has playfully flirted with both genders a large number of times.
    • Across the series, Valin is probably the male from Alphabetical who's the most in touch with his feminine side, and he's in a Happily Married relationship with Tamara.
  • The Casanova: Chad has the distinction of having more female players attracted to him than any other contestant.
  • Casanova Wannabe:
    • Alfred has asked out every girl at his college...They all turned him down. It's actually sent him into something similar to a depression.
    • Brick thinks he's basically the perfect guy when it comes down to dating, stating that he's "single and ready to mingle" after his breakup. But if what others say is anything to go by, he's honestly all talk and no game.
  • Character Development: A staple of the series as a whole, basically every contestant in the series develops at least a little.
  • Character Focus: Each season has major characters who largely get more screentime than the rest of the cast.
  • The Charmer: Valentino wants to be this, but actively fails to actually be charming in any way, shape, or form.
  • Chastity Couple: Izaya and Juvia were dating for several years prior to show, but had never even kissed before it. Inverted during the show itself.
  • The Chessmaster: Charles is a strategic genius who easily moves things and by extension the other players into his favor.
  • Chick Magnet: Valentino likes to think he's one, when really, it's completely inverted.
    • Played Straight in Doc's case due to his amazing singing voice.
  • Chronic Backstabbing Disorder: Devereux has no sense of actual loyalty and will do as he pleases as long as it gets a good reaction out of somebody.
  • Churchgoing Villain: Elisha thinks she was actually meant to compete in the series to represent Arceus and the other supposed gods of their world, but regardless is probably one of the most cruel and outright bigoted characters in the series.
  • Closet Geek: While it's mostly overshadowed by his awkward personality, Alfred is a huge fan of sci-fi movies, and is in love with the Star Wars franchise. He's also implied to be a Trekkie.
  • Cloud Cuckoo Lander:
    • Doc intentionally invokes this in order to weird people out...Or at least he thinks he does. Even he's not completely sure of his motives. Either way the guy doesn't seem all there in the head.
    • Hazel's a rather delusional and downright idiotic magician, whose ideas and ideologies often come across as rather odd.
    • Quincy, an oaf who often does very random or strange things for very little reason other than it makes him happy and makes other laugh, seeming to break reality and thoughts on what is socially acceptable on the daily with his random acts of both kindness and potential madness.
    • Tempest is possibly the most mentally questionable contestant of the entire series. She believes she's the main villain of some sort of video game it seems, where she runs around slaying demons in an attempt to make herself seem unbelievably powerful in comparison to everyone else...And yet her actual strength is pretty accurate to what she claims it is.
  • Constantly Curious: Juvia is just in love with the world and everything in it, and since she doesn't know much about it, she constantly tries learning more and more about it from the others, usually through asking a lot of questions.
  • Control Freak:
    • Tamara shows shades of this despite her panicked personality.
    • Yavis' behavior as leader subtly implies he's this.
  • Continuity Reboot: Alphabetical acts as this for the series after Fuzzboy came on as the co-writer.
  • Cool Big Sis: While the older sibling has never been confirmed, it's generally assumed In-Universe that Ashley is the older sibling, and she's a pretty kind and understanding one to boot.
  • The Corruptible: Both Averted and Played With in the case of Isaac; several times throughout TXI, Giselle attempted to manipulate Isaac onto her side during votes, possibly even succeeding several times, but he still ultimately stayed on the side of good. However, in the long run, far past her personal Heel–Face Turn, her actions had actually caused Isaac to become more aggressive, hostile, and brutally jealous of anyone who was Yu's friend, including Giselle in question. Even if she hadn't intended it, Giselle had still ultimately turned Isaac into a hostile but still ultimately good at heart Anti-Hero who was nowhere near as kind as he was in the original competition.
  • Covered in Kisses: Implied with Zetsu after his date with Tempest.
  • Crossdresser: Isaac is revealed to have been forced into dressing like a girl by his mother.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass:
    • While Benson may still be an idiot, he still was able to become a slight Manipulative Bastard in order to get Randy eliminated.
    • Kirby is quickly underestimated for his small height and lack of arms(and being an acorn), causing most to just brush him off, which is actually a huge mistake considering the guy is actually a genius.
    • Quincy may be an idiot, but he won the first challenge of the show and became a team captain, and easily made the perfect camouflage for his team's base next episode.
    • Tempest, Rest, and Maria all joined their respective seasons quickly being seen as weirdos who wouldn't last long, but all three proved themselves to actually be very strong and very potentially dangerous players.
  • Curb Stomp Battle:
    • Basically every fight against Dante ends with him kicking your ass with minimal effort.
    • Zander was able to take Greta down relatively quickly.
  • Cute Bruiser: Tempest is potentially the strongest contestant on the show, and yet she's also the shortest and among the most adorable.
    • Similarly though less common, Juvia is unquestionably friendly and is seen generally as very cute, but mess with her family, and she'll quickly become your worst nightmare.
  • The Cutie: Juvia is widely considered the most innocent and adorable person in the entire cast by her peers.
  • Dark and Troubled Past:
    • Implied to be the main reason Greta is such an awful person.
    • Dante was only raised by his father due to his mother dying upon his birth. It's implied that he was very harshly and strictly raised.
  • Darker and Edgier:
    • Played with in the Alphabetical reboot; While most of the more negative characters are nowhere to be seen now, and a lot of the more negative characters from before have been updated and turned into better people, it still introduced Dante and Greta as contestants, and it still feels like a grim story overall.
    • Total Xtreme Action is considered a much darker story in terms of contestants and storylines.
  • Dating What Daddy Hates: The actual reasoning behind how Alia and Droog began to date. The former holds a grudge against her parents due to them being rich and part of the government, so she goes out with a homeless punk(Droog) in order to piss them off, with it being implied especially her father. Once Droog finds out, he breaks things off with her instantly afterwards, regardless of the fact that she had developed actual feelings for him.
  • An Elimination in the Limelight:
    • Greta's personality was shown fully throughout "Battle Blockade!" By the end of the episode, it's clear just how much of a Hate Sink she truly was.
    • Izaya notably got the most screentime he had during his entire time in the game during "Boot Camp With a Side of Shit", though it probably wasn't attention he was particularly happy with.
    • Ashley was a major character of the episode, "Total XTREME Disaster!" Too bad her actual screentime in that episode was the standard amount for a supporting character that season, which overall explains just how Out of Focus she was that season.
    • Devereux was the Big Bad of "Two-Sided Challengers", ultimately using his time in that episode to effectively traumatize Juvia and destroy his already very fragile reputation entirely. Prior to this point, he had mostly been an Arc Villain who didn't do too much during the pre-merge.
    • Max's only episode where he was anything more than a minor background character was "The Hunter, and The Prey", where he actually went kinda insane after an entire season's worth of abuse and disrespect from everyone else.
    • "Top Bird" gives us a bit more insight into how Isabel's mind works, only for her to be eliminated at the end of the episode.
  • Defeat Means Friendship: Upon being eliminated for not being a team player, Nazira and Sage actually make amends with one another, and by the aftermaths seem to have a good amount of respect for each other.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: Nazira was never that bad of a person, basically being the definition of an Anti-Hero, but when she began the show, she was probably among the more quick to anger contestants, mostly due to her own morals and what she's learned on the streets clashing with the others, and she kept a majority of her emotions from affecting her situation or others. However, upon realizing her asexuality, she slowly begins to accept herself, and by extent others more. She's still a Deadpan Snarker to be sure, but if her Odd Friendship with Ace is any validation, she certainly has grown a bit warmer in terms of personality.
  • The Ditz: Justified due to her having three minds and all, but Harper isn't very bright and can't concentrate on anything very well either. Just attempting to try and form coherent sentences is a struggle for her.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Charles and Izaya primarily, but everyone has their moments.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: Sage started off TXI as the most hostile and aggressive female contestant. By the end of the season, she was actually relatively affable towards those she trusted, and actually found some True Companions along the way in Hazel, Izaya, and Juvia.
  • The Determinator:
    • Ace seems to be deadset on making sure his team wins every challenge, while still trying to keep good morale.
    • Izaya always is focused on accomplishing a goal of some kind, usually relating to his closest friends and family in some way.
    • Zander puts all of his strength into every challenge without falter, seemingly completely determined to win every challenge he can.
  • Devil in Plain Sight: Devereux began the show as a rude but seemingly harmless prankster. As the series progressed, he's revealed to actually be an incognito sociopath and possible sadist, who actually mentally and physically tortures Juvia on his last day in the game.
  • Dirty Coward: Hazel comes across as The Load to his teammates, primarily due to his own cowardice. That is before he becomes a Lovable Coward.
  • Disc-One Final Boss:
    • Greta is set up as a major antagonist...Only to be the first one voted off.
    • Devereux serves as the Big Bad of the pre-merge during TXI, before ultimately getting eliminated first during the merge.
    • Starrk was set up as a major villain after making a deal with Barkeep, but is ultimately the final one eliminated before the merge.
  • Ditzy Genius: Izaya claims that Juvia is actually a strategic genius despite her goofy and seemingly ditzy personality. It was proven to be true during the talent show, where she effortlessly dominates a chess game with no effort.
  • Dogged Nice Guy: Alfred is revealed to be this in episode two, having been rejected by every girl he's ever asked out, no matter how kind he treats them. It's actually caused him to fall into somewhat of an early depression.
  • The Dreaded:
    • Everyone during Alphabetical is absolutely terrified of Dante.
    • Similarly, both Indigo and Rest become this throughout TXA, with both becoming public targets due to the fact that everyone's worried that if they stay too long, they'll end up killing or psychologically torturing someone.
  • Dreadful Musician: Kaden has an awful singing voice, and it certainly doesn't help that all of his lyrics are rather...Traumatic.
  • Drunk with Power: As early as episode two, Yavis has become a Control Freak for his team, and seems to grow very irrational when that power is taken away from him, to a point of not being nearly as useful as a teammate.
  • Dumb Is Good:
    • Harper's among the less intelligent contestants due to her mental difficulties, and she overall seems to have trouble knowing what's going on. Doesn't stop her from being a sweetheart.
    • Hazel and Juvia are similarly among the sweetest contestants, but they're also among the most idiotic.
  • Dumb Jock: Chad isn't the sharpest tool in the shed, but hey, at least he's athletic!
  • Dumb Muscle: Chad and Thunder are among the less intelligent contestants, but they're also among the strongest.
  • Dwindling Party: Given the fact that it's an elimination-based competition, the entire premise entails this.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness:
    • Alphabet is considered an okay story that suffers from unlikable characters and a lot of grammar and spelling errors. Alphabetical is considered much better written as a story.
    • Episodes 1-14 of TXI are very hard to get through due to a large amount of issues, most getting chocked up to Delta Xtreme not knowing where to go with the plot.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: Droog doesn't have a very happy life, being born as the bastard child of a whore, and living most of his life either being abused by her or being homeless, which he never really figured out which was better. He ends up winning Total Xtreme Action, and in the end, uses his prize money to eventually become a millionaire. He's finally away from her, and is living the life he's always wanted.
  • Easily Forgiven: While inverted for the most part, Greta is forgiven quite quickly by Valin, despite the fact that she had attempted to kill him not even an hour earlier.
  • Egocentrically Religious: Elisha seems to have some kind of misguided belief that she is representing religion as a whole. If that's true, than she's giving it a pretty bad name. She's rude, immature, bigoted, downright cruel at times, and lethally stupid at the worst times. Add on some kind of belief that Arceus is always looking out for her and will help her win, and you have possibly one of the most annoying contestants in the cast.
  • Emo Teen: Violet comes across as far more depressed in FMTDI than in the Xtreme series, which makes sense considering that by TXWT, she probably would have grown more accepting of her abilities influencing her life.
  • Emotional Bruiser: Chad's a jock, but he is very sensitive and in tune with his feelings and emotions.
  • Enemy Mine: The entirety of the Mysterious Mesprit decide to team up in order to eliminate Greta, since they all share a mutual dislike of her.
  • Entitled Bitch: Greta treats everyone like trash while also threatening them with serious damage if they go against her, but still expects to be seen as a great leader by her teammates, despite also basically acting as a dictator on the team.
  • Even Evil Can Be Loved: Izaya is evil all things considered(including his job in the mob, very large amount of potential murders, one-sided thought process, uncaring attitude towards those he doesn't like, etc), but regardless was able to find love in Juvia, and ended up becoming a Parental Substitute for Hazel and Sage.
  • Everyone Has Standards:
    • Nobody on the island likes Greta or encourages her sadistic personality and actions, including Sableye, who's trying to uncover everyone's secrets.
    • Dante is among the most violent and feared contestants, but he also has a strong morality complex, enough so that upon accidentally knocking Randy in "Alphabet Assembles", he takes care of him for the rest of the episode, putting his focus on the rat instead of the challenge. Later in the episode, he also brings an exhausted Harper back to camp.
    • After their attacks on Izaya, to say that nobody liked Cynthia and Reyna much afterwards would be an understatement. Everyone was either disgusted by the fact they'd do that to someone, disturbed by their intentional want of causing harm to him, shocked that they could do it, or all three. Even Devereux, someone Izaya delivered a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown towards wasn't very pleased with them.
    • Even the other antagonists and former ones are appalled by the fact that Sally literally sent every contestant in a relationship a message telling them to break up.
  • Everyone Meets Everyone: None of the cast knew each other before the show, and all meet in episode one in every season.
    • Inverted in the case of Turtonator and Vanilluxe; They're actually married, and only pretend to not know each other before the show.
    • Inverted in the case of Izaya and Juvia; They had been dating for years before the show.
  • Evil Gloating: Tempest constantly praises herself and claims to be a "grand demon slayer" who will easily destroy all of the cast whenever she feels the need to...And the bad part is that she's actually kinda right about that second part.
  • Extreme Doormat: Alfred and Zetsu are prime examples of people who simply don't have enough of a backbone to stand up for themselves in most scenarios, getting pushed into decisions regardless of what their actual feelings on a manner are.
  • Face Palm: They happen multiple times across every season.
  • Fake Boss: Greta is quickly set up as the potential main antagonist of the story due to her violent personality, but is actually disposed of by the end of "Battle Blockade", becoming the first contestant eliminated.
  • Fandom-Specific Plot: It's story is basically the premise of 99% of all crossovers between Total Drama and Pokemon.
  • Fanservice Pack: Chad has the personality, looks, and strength to back him up, and basically is seen as the total package by the cast.
  • The Fashionista: Casper's a male example, with him being set-up as someone who's very fashion forward and focused on trying to create and design different kinds of outfits that help the person stand out. Chad even mentions that he'd probably criticize most of the cast just for not wearing some kind of flattering clothing.
  • Fat Bastard:
    • Purugly is uncomfortably overweight, and is also among the most villainous contestants.
    • Starrk is described several times to be of a more wide-frame, and is probably the most unlikable character who isn't completely evil.
  • For the Evulz:
    • Greta relentlessly tortures her teammates and other contestants for no reason other than that she enjoys it.
    • Tempest only really acts as antagonistic as she does...Just because she wants to.
  • Freudian Excuse:
    • Greta's violent personality was caused by her terrible home life.
    • Tempest is only as insane as she is because of growing up homeless and being taught her odd POV due to her adoptive father figure.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes:
    • Devereux was widely despised by the entire cast of TXI, mostly due to his disturbingly apathetic and cruel personality, traumatizing torture of Juvia, and vicious streak of causing the eliminations of a large amount of contestants.
    • Everyone thought Hyde was a potential pedophile, so it's quite obvious everyone despised him.
    • Bari is overall a very friendly and optimistic person, but that doesn't change the fact that everyone thought he was disgusting and overly clingy to a point of annoyance.
    • Nobody puts up with Valentino or his behavior, and the only reason he hasn't been eliminated immediately is due to the others simply believing voting him off isn't worth it since he's already digging his own grave.
  • Friend to All Living Things: Quincy gets along with all of the wild Pokemon on the island and deeply cares for them, and also naturally thinks the highest of every person he meets.
  • Fun Size: Tempest is the smallest character at a measly 4 inches tall!
  • Game-Breaking Injury: In "Battle Blockade", Greta is beaten to near death by Dante, basically dooming her at the elimination that night.
  • Gamer Chick: Word of God has confirmed Harper as one, since playing a game is one of the few things all of heads are able to focus on, thus making playing them a rare experience of peace inside her otherwise usually busy mind.
  • Gay Best Friend:
    • Decker to Alia.
    • Kaden to Hazel.
    • Kai and Kanaya to Droog.
    • Monsoon to Izaya.
    • (Potentially)Casper to Chad.
  • Geek Physiques: Alfred is actually rather skinny and frail looking for his species, and basically looks easy enough to break with minimal effort.
  • Genki Girl:
    • Mesprit, who's the only host who treats all the contestants with respect while acting consistently kind and energetic.
    • Juvia and Kanaya are endless bundles of positive energy for the rest of the cast.
  • Girl Next Door: Sally used to come across as one of the friendliest(but also most generic) girls on the show. Averted upon her Character Development into a Hate Sink.
  • Give Geeks a Chance: Ace is able to form a relationship with Cynthia despite being a slightly annoying geek.
  • Glory Hound: Penelope always needs constant attention and affirmation from others.
  • Glory Seeker: Constantly fishes for compliments from others.
  • Good is Not Nice: Sage is one of the most prominent protagonists in the series, but that doesn't mean she's exactly very friendly, basically being a huge bitch who just so happens to fight for her morals heavily.
  • Grew a Spine: After beginning a relationship with Tempest, while he still isn't the hardest to persuade into feeling certain things, he's much more willing to stand up for what he believes in and won't just allow people to walk all over him anymore.
  • Grey-and-Grey Morality: A large majority of the cast are very middling in terms of morality. Only a select few contestants actually seem to be completely excluded from this, including resident Juvia, Valin, Kanaya, Quincy, Indigo, Barkeep, Uxie, and Greta. Otherwise, everyone else usually borders the line of being both good and evil. Nobody's perfect really.
  • Groin Attack: During Ronoc's invasion in the TXA finale, Margaret attacks Isaac...By punching him as hard as she could where the sun don't shine.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper:
    • Greta is set off by the simplest of actions, and always responds violently.
    • Kirby's known for having this among the cast, becoming irritable at the simplest of mistakes for minimal reason other than that everything seems to just piss him off.
    • Nazira can go from zero to a hundred in terms of anger at the slightest act of aggression, and she will always throw the aggression back at full force due to her own belief of never backing down.
  • Halloween Episode: Both "Cynthia and the Chair of Truth" and "My Screaming Halloween".
  • Happily Married: Tamara and Valin are revealed to be a married couple who have kids in the first episode, and are just pretending to not know each other in order to do well in the competition.
  • Hated by All: Nobody likes several contestants from the series, including Greta and Valentino.
  • Hate Sink: A lot of contestants show themselves to have very few redeeming qualities, but even the worst ones usually have some kind of Freudian Excuse for their actions of personalities(Greta, Kirby, Devereux, Droog!), but Valentino doesn't really have this, since the guy is portrayed as having absolutely no redeeming qualities about him while shamelessly flirting with every woman he sees(including taken ones) simply to try and advance his game. Doesn't help that it's so heavily implied that he's trying to steal Juvia from Izaya.
  • The Hedonist: Penelope's life seems all about fun and pleasure.
  • Hero Antagonist: Yavis may be a Control Freak who has some clear issues with not being the one in charge, but regardless, he still fought in the army for no other reason than that he thought it was the right thing to do, gladly putting his life on the line in order to make sure innocent people wouldn't be affected by the conflict. He is a noble man, he's just taking the game seriously is all.
  • Hidden Depths: Quincy seems to have a natural connection with the wild Pokemon living on the island.
  • Hidden Heart of Gold: In the end, some of the initially more hostile players end up showing off a shining side of their personality. Notable examples being Brick, Casper, Droog, Giselle, Hyde, Indigo, "Rest", and Veronica.
  • Hoist By Her Own Petard: Greta relentlessly abused and tortured those weaker than her, only to get seriously beaten down by Dante, the only contestant stronger than her physically, causing her downfall no matter the circumstance at the end of the episode.
  • Hot-Blooded:
    • Brick's defining characteristic is that he's prone to anger very easily. Even implying he's weak can set him off.
    • Kirby has potentially one of the worst anger problems of the entire cast, as to put it simply, he has basically no tolerance or patience towards the more wacky and goofy members of the cast.
    • Nazira can get set-off at the smallest of the things on a bad day, and even on a good one, she is probably the quickest to start conflicts with the more antagonistic contestants.
  • Humiliation Conga: Upon her arrival on the show, Greta savagely rips open a Wailord's back. After that though, she's quickly and easily taken care of by Dante and Wanda, easily defeated and held down by Zander after attacking Wanda, is quickly targeted by her team to a point of where they throw the challenge to eliminate her, thoroughly loses the trust and respect of the only person who liked her, gets the crap beaten out of her to a point of an almost allowed medevac by Dante, and then receives every vote at the next elimination, thus making her the first contestant eliminated from the game. And all of that was just in two episodes.
  • I Coulda Been a Contender!: In FMTDI, Ace could have been a major player in the season and could have made it pretty far, but unfortunately, his own lack of patience for those around him and mediocre challenge performances(which was only due to neither of them suiting his talents) sent him packing pretty quickly.
  • Informed Attractiveness: Largely since it's a written story, but Chad is seen as almost irresistible in terms of appearance, but we aren't really given any reason why besides being buff.
  • The Ingenue: Juvia is a very sweet girl, who prior to the series, was a virgin...Until she learned about the "game" and made Izaya play it with her.
  • In Harmony with Nature: Quincy loves everything about the outdoors, from the wild Pokemon that live out there to it's natural beauty.
  • Innocently Insensitive: Zander means well with everything he says, but he lacks a filter, and has a tendency to accidentally say demeaning or rude things to those around him.
  • Innocent Bigot: Zander is described as such, since while he says offensive things, he never means to and is actually a Nice Guy.
  • Insufferable Genius: Lorrein, who will begin to chew people out just for not using proper grammar. Charles also has some traits of this.
  • In Touch with His Feminine Side: Casper is notably one of the most emotional male contestants.
  • It's All About Me: Benson has this outlook on life, basically treating it as if he's the main character of the universe as a whole due to starring in so many movies, even though most of the cast don't even know of him or his career.
  • Jack of All Stats:
    • Droog, who while an asshole, has shown himself to be amazing at challenges and is among the smarter players in terms of strategy, and doesn't seem to particularly lack in any other category.
    • Zander, who's a high school PE teacher, and thus very athletic, has an above average intelligence overall but seems to have difficulty showing it at times, and is very social. His biggest issue is his own lack of a censor.
  • Jerkass:
    • Benson is an arrogant jerk to everyone around him, and his stubborn enough to cause some team difficulties.
    • Devereux is a sociopath and known sadist who treats everyone like garbage, and has been confirmed to use his YouTube channel primarily to make fun of the other contestants.
    • Greta is an absolute psychopath who spends her time harassing her teammates and physically bullying them for little reason.
    • Kaden is an an arrogant prick to basically everyone in the story, even his own friends and boyfriend(though it's not like the latter isn't the same case back), and throughout TXI commonly sexually harassed a seemingly unaware and childish Gareth.
  • Jerk Jock: Thunder used to be a massive prick, but has mostly undergone a Heel–Face Turn, but he has always been one of the most impressively athletic competitors.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold:
    • Dante is one of the most violent contestants who refuses to work with others unless they prove their worth, but he also has a strong morality complex, believes in defending those who are unable to defend themselves, and is always willing to take responsibility for his actions. He also has formed friendships with both Harper and Randy due to taking care of the two during "Alphabet Assembles!"
    • Droog may be a seemingly completely unlikable prick, but upon growing close to them, you slowly start to realize most of this is just part of an act that he's put up in order to push people away, and that the real him is actually just a lonely and depressed kid who never got to have any real friends or family. He's actually a pretty decent person towards those that bother to get past his off-putting personality.
    • Lorrein may be a very strict and overall rude person, but she does have good intentions when she taught her students, and does seem to be capable of lightening up around those who show her actual respect back, even being capable of being friendly around them.
    • Nazira's one of more hostile and rude contestants, but she's also one of the only ones who constantly calls out rude behavior and is pretty down to earth in terms of morality.
    • Odetta's a very immature and rude teenager who slacks off at every opportunity, but as shown through her interactions with Alfred, she is capable of being friendly towards those who share similar interests or are at least around her age.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Jerk: In FMTDI, just as he's leaving, Kaden seems like he'll genuinely leave Gareth alone...Until he says he'll look for someone with an actual brain instead, and if not, then he'll just keep harassing him if he sees him again. This does not end well for him considering Nazira was in earshot.
  • The Juggernaut: Dante doesn't let anything get in his way from accomplishing his goal, and in solely fighting-based scenario, he's basically nigh-unstoppable.
  • Killed Off for Real: While you certainly would never expect it, characters actually have died.
    • Julie the Ducklett was introduced as a new Arch-Enemy to brick in the form of an annoying wild Pokemon who never did anything but hurt others for no real reason. The last time we see her, she's slapped into the middle of the ocean by Izaya. Word of God went on to confirm later on that Julie actually didn't survive on her swim to Loser Isle.
    • Along with that, it seems like a large majority of the wild Pokemon on the original island perished when it was flooded. The only confirmed survivors are Brad the Braviary, and the pack of Juvia-worshipping Bidoof.
  • Knight of Cerebus:
    • Barkeep, the main antagonist across the entire series, who never cracks jokes and is completely sadistic in his enjoyment of these kinds of shows, and will intentionally place the contestants in worse danger in order to get an amusing show out of it.
    • Ronoc is a mad scientist who "experiments" on others in order to turn them into what he believes to be "perfect" organisms, and is also taken dead seriously every time he shows up in the stories.
  • Large Ham:
    • Kaden's a more unlikable example of the trope, playing up his sexuality in order to come across as a stereotypical Camp Gay character.
    • Hazel's passion for magic leads to him basically holding up how amazing it is to a surprising amount, which heavily influences just how excitable he truly is. Downplayed over time however, due to his Character Development slowly making him more mature.
    • Quincy has so much fun simply living his life that it causes everything he does to simply come across as a happy child, and along with that comes an overly energetic view on life.
    • Tempest plays everything up to an illogical extreme simply because that's just how her mind works. When she's around, expect a lot of screaming, over the top sentences that make absolutely no sense, bizarre ideas that make no sense, etc.
    • Wanda tries to be taken as seriously as possible, but the fact that she is so quick to jump to bizarre conclusions, that she has the most bizarre sense of black and white morality, and that she says everything loudly and without real thought, she only comes across as potentially insane and completely random.
  • The Leader:
    • Elisha, Quincy, and Yavis win the position of "team captain" after the first challenge of Alphabetical.
    • Similarly, Chad and Thunder gain similar roles after the first challenge of Xtreme Action.
    • Ace emerged as a natural leader for the Dragonites during Xtreme Island due to his determined attitude and slightly friendly personality to those he respects. Kaden became this for the Tyranitars during the same season simply due to everyone else either being too lazy, too dumb, or not caring enough to take the position.
    • Izaya and Sage become this for the Crobats and Grovyles respectively due to both of them being valued and respected for their intelligence and competitive attitudes.
  • Lighter and Softer: Compared to the Xtreme series, Fuzzy Memories is downright family-friendly, mostly due to the writers putting a rule of no swearing or making straightforward sexual jokes while writing it.
  • The Load: Loads and loads of them!
    • Odetta is The Slacker of the Awesome Azelf, a team made up primarily of very physically or mentally adept players, and since she wasn't even decent in either of those, she's entirely useless to them winning challenges.
    • Benson is pretty terrible at challenges, either getting eliminated from them early on, providing nothing to his team's effort, putting himself on a pedestal and valuing keeping himself in good condition instead, or just being an idiot.
    • Hazel was more or less useless to the Tyranitar during TXI due to his own ego and cowardice. Later on though, it was actually because he was attempting to throw challenges in order to get Kaden and his alliance eliminated. This actually helps his team win more challenges.
    • Max was a sniveling coward throughout the entirety of the team phase of TXI as well, making him possibly the worst player on the team.
    • Yu was pointed out as this for the Dragonite in TXI, with most of them believing he was too weak to possibly be of any real use in the future. His track record of either bombing or causing the loss of the previous four challenges before that only supported the argument.
    • Bari was basically fodder for the Larvesta in the fact that nobody really wanted him around for his foul stench and disgusting habits, and he wasn't useful in challenges to boot.
    • Monsoon served as this for the Spiritomb, performing terribly in challenges and being annoying to boot. Averted for the most part upon joining the Grovyle though, due to an injury to his head making him a Dumbass No More.
    • Alia was basically useless to the Grovyle's efforts to win challenges, mostly either screwing things up or not being of much worth to certain challenges.
    • Cynthia ended up turning into this due to her hate-filled propaganda against Izaya taking over her thoughts most of the time, leading to her actively messing up in challenges or accidentally throwing them in one case.
    • Jet was so determined to try and get revenge against Tempest, he smashed his team's tape in order to prove that night they'd vote for her...Only to receive votes from everyone and getting eliminated. Even before that Took a Level in Dumbass moment of his, he was a huge prick who refused to help his team during the challenge due to believing they were weaklings and didn't deserve his help.
    • Valentino is acknowledged as possibly the worst actual player on the Regice, but most of his teammates decide to keep him around since he's already digging his own grave to a point of being absolutely no threat.
    • Isaac for the Regigigas, mostly since his own hatred towards Giselle stops him from really being that useful.
    • Actually Averted in the case of Quincy; due to his stupidity, you'd think he'd be absolutely useless to the Unique Uxie, but as it turns out, he's both insanely strong and has nearly unbeatable luck. The guy actually quickly proved himself to be one of the best players on the team.
    • Also Averted in the case of Kirby, because while he lacks arms, he's technically a genius in terms of both IQ and strategy, so his efforts towards the team are at least semi-useful.
  • Lovable Sex Maniac: A mostly implied example in FMTDI, but Doc and Kaden makes far more innuendos than anyone else in the cast. Both of them play it completely straight in the Xtreme series though.
  • Loners Are Freaks:
    • Dante and Quincy spend most of their time away from most of the cast, and are also seen as the overall oddest contestants in the competition.
    • Rest has no friends and no allegiance to anyone among the contestants, and is also incredibly freaky to be around due to her unnerving blank stare and supernatural strength.
    • Played completely straight with Indigo, who is the biggest loner and outcast of the entire series, and is also completely insane and beyond terrifying to talk to on any level. She's actually called a freak several times throughout the story.
  • Looking for Love in All the Wrong Places: One of Alfred's goals on the show is to find a girlfriend, after every previous attempt of his on the show failed. He's deducted that since all the girls back home were immature and spoiled party animals, that maybe he'll have an easier time on a show full of older women who have matured as people.
  • Lovable Jock: Casper and Chad were part of a fraternity and played football alongside one another in high school, and both are among some of the more liked players.
  • Love Freak: Kanaya is borderline obsessed with the idea of love and the things surrounding it to a point of where she's the primary shipper of just about every canon relationship.
  • Make-Out Kids: Alia and Droog made out on a semi-regular basis during TXA, that is until Droog breaks up with her after the third aftermath.
  • Mama Bear: Kanaya was this during TXI, acting as a bit of a surrogate mother to most of the cast(most of which have some serious mommy issues), but gradually became more of a Cool Big Sis. She keeps up this role though at the orphanage she works at.
  • Manipulative Bastard:
    • Barkeep leaks a video of Colton masturbating while moaning Tyson's name, leading to the latter two to attempt and hunt him down so they can fire him(or attack him in Colton's case). However, after roping Doc and Zetsu into his plans, Barkeep is effectively able to get the two hosts arrested, leaving Barkeep as an "abused victim" due to Colton's angry attack on him, leading to him getting plenty of attention which ends in him becoming a millionaire, and later buying out the Xtreme series to make even more money.
    • Benson effectively ends up turning a majority of the Mysterious Mesprit against Randy, leading to the latter getting eliminated that night.
  • Morality Pet:
    • Juvia acts as this to Izaya.
    • Alia used to be this for this for Droog.
    • Alfred has oddly become this for Odette.
    • Harper is a more straight forward example for Dante.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Giselle invokes this as her primary strategy.
    • Inverted in the case of Penelope, tries to be this but often fails. Used to be this when she was unevolved though.
  • Naïve Everygirl: Juvia is one of the sweetest, most innocent, and sadly most naive contestants, which made her an easy target for the abusive Devereux. However, in the end, she still has a golden, shining heart that carried her through most of the series.
  • Nerds Are Sexy: Ace is actually seen as very physically attractive, and yet he's probably one of the biggest nerds in the entire cast.
  • Never Accepted in His Hometown: Alfred apparently has been rejected by every girl in his college, and if his awkwardness is anything to go by, he doesn't have many friends or close family members either.
  • New Rules as the Plot Demands: Invoked deliberately by Colton during TXI so that his team always has an advantage in some way. It obviously annoys Tyson quite a bit.
  • New Season, New Name: Every season is given a different title to represent its theme.
  • Nice Guy:
    • Alfred's a sweet guy who just suffers from being extremely socially awkward.
    • Chad may have quite the ego, but just how friendly the guy is can't be ignored.
    • Decker's probably the nicest contestant overall in the entirety of TXA, being the only one who seems to have no agenda and only does what he thinks is right.
    • Freya respects everyone and treats them all well, and is the only one to not see Quincy as an idiot, instead just thinking he's friendly and fun to be around.
    • Juvia's among the sweetest(and dumbest) contestants from the beginning of the series and onward. By Total Xtreme Action, the only contestants of the original cast who don't consider her a friend are Devereux, Gareth, and Kyah.
    • Kanaya's a Team Mom for just about any team she actually gets placed on, acting as a strong moral figure for everyone else and being as kind as she possibly can.
    • Quincy's a goofball who's just on the show to spread happiness and have a good time, even if he lacks the intellect to easily make friends.
    • Uri's a kind old soul who has learned to only care about those around him after a rather terrible past series of events.
    • Valin's the nicest contestant on the entire show, being completely selfless and thinking only the best of everyone around him.
    • Zander's a cool guy and tries to be as friendly to others as possible...He just sucks at keeping his mouth shut at times.
  • Nightmare Fuel Station Attendant: Josephine invokes this as her main strategy, intentionally freaking people out in order to make it further in the game.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown:
    • Near the end of "Battle Blockade", Dante beats Greta badly enough that the hosts admit that they would have medevaced her from the game if they could.
    • Devereux was beaten into a near comatose state by Izaya after torturing Juvia.
  • No Indoor Voice:
    • Both Quincy and Zander are described as being the loudest contestants, and even when they try not to be, they often still come across as a little too loud for anyone's liking. Quincy seems to be capable of quieting down though, unlike Zander.
    • Everything Chad is says is very loud to say the least.
  • No Name Given: Played with; The cast of Alphabetical has names, but they're only revealed once each throughout the story, and they're never referred to by their actual names in the season. Word of God has confirmed that outside of TPA though, they will be referred to by name.
  • Non-Action Guy: Zetsu spends most of his time filling out paperwork, and later on hosting the Xtreme series, but he's not exactly a very intimidating guy in a fight, usually getting taken down easily, which his girlfriend makes up for by being a Cute Bruiser. He's had his moments though.
  • Non-Gameplay Elimination:
    • Mimi ran off in the middle of the challenge in TXI, and due to her disappearance, she is considered to have been the official elimination that episode.
    • Hyde was eliminated at Tyson's request after he believes he tried to steal his waffles. He was also medically evacuated from the game in TXA due to getting horribly beaten down by Starrk.
    • Sage was medically discharged from the game due to her injuries being too severe to allow her to continue.
    • Every remaining contestant in TXA agreed to Cynthia's automatic elimination after almost killing Izaya.
    • Izaya is forced to leave the game after nearly dying multiple times during his stay.
  • No Social Skills: A surprisingly large number of contestants have basically no idea of how to actually talk to other people.
    • Alfred is a Casanova Wannabe who has largely had a life that has actively belittled him and destroyed his self-confidence, ultimately leading to him now having no idea on how to talk to others. It's gotten so bad that he is actually getting help from Odetta to try and become a bit more socially equipped.
    • Bari has become somewhat of a social outcast due to his own lack of hygeine, which causes the others to either avoid him or actively insult him. His actual social skills aren't much better considering he jumps to conclusions quickly and has problems talking to others.
    • Freya suffers from a minor-case of autism, which by it's very nature actively hurts your ability to develop strong and normal social connections. The fact that most of the cast can be outright cruel doesn't help her get better either.
    • Harper quite literally has three different heads with completely different personalities and ways how they work...Her social skills are completely reliant on these three heads thinking the same thing or she gets headaches...She has absolutely no social life due to this.
    • Jet previously didn't talk to the others at all due to not trusting them in any way. Post Face–Heel Turn however, and he does start talking...Only now they're basically all just insults directed at the others without realizing that everyone absolutely hates his guts. He's never had social skills it seems.
    • Kyah invoked a lack of social knowledge as her primary strategy during TXI so she could get out early and put her and Barkeep's strategy into action...Only for TXA to prove she actually truly doesn't have any social skills at all, since her own staggering overconfidence and massive ego make her blind to the reality of a situation.
    • "Rest" already failed to actually do anything but say the same things over and over again as her only form of communication, so the fact that her true self(Louise) quite literally has no idea how to do anything truly shows a lack of social skills in any way.
    • Maria is usually quiet, but when she actually does talk to the others, the results of doing so are usually about as successful as if she had just not spoken at all, actively showing a lack of picking up on social ques.
    • Merle's Fatal Flaw is this, as he actively refuses to speak to others, and when he does, it shows just how little knowledge he has in actually speaking to others. Kinda explains why he's so isolated from other people.
    • Mimi didn't speak to anyone at first in TXI, and when she did, she was incredibly blunt and clearly was having trouble actually talking to anyone. Upon becoming an Official Couple with Doc though, she's gotten better.
    • Tempest quite literally lives in her own little fantasy world, which usually leads to her finding everyone around her to either be one of her party companions on a quest, or a monster that she must slay.
    • Violet acts quite...Odd to say the least. The only person she seems even capable of holding a conversation with is Hazel.
  • Obfuscating Stupidity: Gareth is revealed to have actually been faking his own stupidity, actually being the Big Bad of the game in disguise.
  • Obliviously Beautiful: Juvia is seen as quite the cute girl by most of the cast, but she isn't that aware of it.
  • Odd Friendship: Plenty of them.
    • Ace and Chad bizarrely have one of the most random but surprisingly sweet friendships in the series, due to the two being such polar opposites in terms of intelligence, hobbies, skills, athletic ability, etc. And yet they're close friends.
    • Alfred's a quiet and awkward loser with a reputation for being kind of geeky, but yet he actually gets along decently well with Odetta, a loud and rude popular girl.
    • Dante's The Stoic who has a violent streak and terrifies everyone around the camp, but oddly enough, actually gets along very well with Harper and Randy, with the former being The Ditz who needs helping learning how to concentrate, while the latter's a Former Child Star who has fallen into depression.
    • Doc and Zetsu have a surprisingly close working relationship, despite the fact that the former is permanently trapped on Opposite Day and works on Insane Troll Logic, while the latter is a workaholic who seems to be the Only Sane Man most of the time.
    • A romantic example is between Izaya and Juvia. Considering the former is a Deadpan Snarker with connections to the mob and the latter is a ditzy sweetheart who has a very idealistic view on the world, it's amazing just how happy they are with each other. They both go on to form an almost family-like bond with Cloud Cuckoo Lander Hazel and Jerk with a Heart of Gold Sage.
    • Lorrein's a realist who is usually mad at the fact that she's on the show against her will and might lose her job, but actually forms a close bond with Xanthippe, a psychic who is only on the show to fulfill her destiny.
  • Official Couple: Many relationships have formed across the series.
    • Ace and Cynthia, who found interest in one another due to their similar personalities and competitive drive to win the game. They broke up officially in the penultimate episode of TXA, dude to Ace's belief that she had changed for the worst as a person.
    • Alia and Droog, who began a relationship quickly due to Droog's interest, though as revealed later, Alia didn't actually return the feelings until later on. Droog broke up with her later on in TXA upon finding out that she originally began their relationship in order to piss off her parents.
    • Brick and Reyna, who were mostly a relationship made up of Ship Tease throughout TXI, until a slight falling out between the two. After making amends, they begin a relationship. They break up between the first and second aftermath of TXA due to Reyna's intentional attempt to hurt Izaya while lying about it.
    • Chad and Sage, who began initially as an Odd Friendship which eventually escalated upon the latter realizing she had somehow developed feelings for the former. While he didn't return the feelings at first, Chad decided he'd give it a try, and ended up not regretting it. The two are still in a relationship to date.
    • Devereux and Kaden, who began initially as a series of flings during the final two episodes of TXI, before beginning a relationship at the end of the season. Known for constantly breaking up with one another over minor fights, but are shown to actually really care about each other on a personal level, and currently are together.
    • Doc and Mimi, the characters probably seen as the biggest outcasts in the entire cast, who find comfort in one another and end up getting together in the final episode of TXI. Broke up for about one episode, before both realized that they honestly couldn't live without the other around to make them happy. As of the TXA finale, they're engaged.
    • Isabel and Kanaya, who initially start out with the former trying to hook up the latter with another player, but soon after, both end up realizing they actually had feelings for one another, and upon having their first kiss at the end of a challenge, they begin a relationship. They are still going strong, despite both having some minor issues with their partner.
    • Izaya and Juvia, a pair of gamblers who couldn't be more different on first inspection, but currently have the the longest going relationship of any couple at ten years!
    • Jet and Sally, an early and very destructive relationship that began with the latter holding an interest that wasn't reciprocated, leading to Jet only beginning a relationship with her due to her standing up to him. They broke up later on in TXI after Jet physically attacks Sally during a challenge he couldn't even receive anything from.
    • Tamara and Valin, the only couple to be officially married, the two have had a great life before the game, raising their children to the best of their abilities and constantly helping one another through their personal issues. Upon entering the competition, they pretend to not know each other, but their worries eventually lead to them getting caught and becoming targets.
    • Tempest and Zetsu, one of the only couples to officially have children, the two's relationship certainly started off on an odd note, them being paired up as a reward, and the former actually kidnapping the latter. But in the end, the two find the other exactly what they're missing, and in the end, start a romance that has been going strong, despite the clear mental barrier.
  • One-Man Army: Dante is widely considered the strongest contestant in the entire series, being capable of taking down a large majority of the cast in just one attack.
  • Only Sane Man:
    • Alfred is among the most normal and least gimmicky contestants, and is actually pretty friendly to boot.
    • Charles acts as one of the smartest contestants of the series, but also seems to be the one with the most stable grip on reality.
    • While his job may be pretty suspicious, Izaya is easily among the more stable contestants in terms of mental sanity, and usually acts as a minder for most of the more zany contestants.
    • Uri spends his time mostly just chilling out and writing songs, while also being pretty kind, but also doesn't involve himself too much in the game or the drama surrounding the others.
    • Zetsu seems to be permanently linked into reality and it's constant struggles, probably being the most normal character in terms of sanity and passions throughout the entire series.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Doc starts acting uncharacteristically negative at the beginning of TXWT, often insulting himself and acting semi-depressed in some ways, which is the complete opposite of his normally friendly albeit rude and uncensored self. Turns out the main reason for this was that he ended up losing basically all of his and Mimi's money offscreen, and has fallen into an actual depression over the idea that he might have potentially screwed himself and his girlfriend out of their potentially happy lives and perfect wedding.
  • Opposites Attract: Juvia is The Ditz of the Xtreme series, while also probably being the kindest contestant overall. And yet she is in a happy relationship with the overly sarcastic and resident asshole, Izaya.
  • Otaku: Ninjask is a huge fan of every kind of Japanese pop culture.
  • Perky Goth: Maria dresses heavily in darker clothing and is seen as extremely creepy to be around by the others, but whenever she actually speaks, she's usually very friendly and has a surprisingly large amount of energy. Granted, most of what she says is also full of confusion on how things work and saying completely random stuff that only she understands.
  • Pet the Dog:
    • While barely even noticeable, Greta's face softens slightly as Valin continues to speak before she leaves. Maybe his words are slowly starting to mean more to her? Either way, it shows that she isn't completely blind to reality and might even feel bad for attacking and nearly killing him.
    • Droog has so many of these throughout TXA that it'd be nearly impossible to name them all. Just know that he's a bad guy who shows on more than one occasion just how good of a person he might just be underneath the Jerkass act.
    • Devereux and Kaden were completely unlikable throughout TXI, but as we learn more and more about their relationship throughout their minimal appearances in the TXA aftermaths, we end up seeing both showing one another a soft side most previously thought they lacked.
  • Plucky Girl: Despite going down a very rough path throughout most of the series, Kanaya is still able to get through it with a smile on her face.
  • The Pollyanna: Kanaya and Valin, who just want everyone in their respective seasons to be good friends and enjoy themselves.
  • Precocious Crush: Alfred has a thing for older women in their 20s to around their early 40s, while he's still just a teenager. He seems to realize how weird this is, but none the less prefers the older types to those his age, since he thinks that an adult breaking his heart wouldn't hurt as much.
  • Proud Beauty: Or at least, Penelope used to be one before she evolved, as she was(and still is obliviously) very proud of her physical appearance.
  • Reality Show: The stories are set in an In-Universe reality competition for money.
  • Real Men Can Cook: Izaya is one of the most intimidating contestants in the series' history...He's also a pretty good cook.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech:
    • Valin lets out a tame version of this against Greta upon realizing just how terrible of a person she truly is.
    • Juvia gives a harsh one to Sage due to her never being a real friend to her.
    • Droog outright bursts into hysterics before delivering possibly the harshest of all to Kanaya, saying how he hates her and will never be her friend no matter how hard she tries.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: A large majority of the more focused on interactions run off of this, so there are plenty.
  • Sassy Black Woman: Assuming she is black, Nazira takes on the role of being the sassiest female contestant, and the most willing contestant to call out other's bullshit.
  • Shipper on Deck: When she thought that Isaac and Yu got together in episode two, it's made pretty clear just how much Kanaya supports the pairing. As the series goes on, she also helps several couples realize their feelings towards one another.
  • Ship Tease:
    • Harper is implied to have a crush on Dante.
    • Alfred and Odetta have interactions that seem to be indirectly spliced with this. Alfred actually has a crush on Harper due to thinking she's so adorable and innocent, and due to him having a thing for older women.
    • Droog and Alia went through this for a couple of episodes in TXA before becoming an Official Couple.
  • Side Bet: Multiple bets are made across the series by multiple different players, though the most prominent are oddly among the Anti-Hero crowd.
  • Skipping School: Odetta is implied to have skipped school multiple times before the competition.
  • The Slacker: Odetta doesn't put much of any kind of effort in challenges, or much of anything really.
  • The Smart Guy:
    • Alfred is a tech geek who gets straight A's in school.
    • Charles' a brilliant writer and a skilled strategist.
    • Freya's a fanfiction writer who plans to write a novel, and while she may be a nervous wreck most of the time, she's actually very intelligent for her age and acts as the main source of brains among her team.
    • Lorrein's a teacher who seems to know plenty about most subjects.
    • Tamara's the Only Sane Man of her team while also acting as a natural team leader due to her impressive mind.
    • Xanthippe's a spiritual but very intelligent psychic.
  • Small Name, Big Ego:
    • Benson is an egotistical Jerkass actor who believes that he should basically be worshipped as some kind of god.
    • Brick's defining characteristic is his unimaginably large amount of confidence in himself and his abilities.
    • While he may be a Nice Guy, Chad's own ego is impossibly massive due to his superior strength and athletic prowess compared to the rest of the cast.
    • Jet had evolved into one of the biggest pricks by TXWT, and his arrogance had evolved with him.
  • Smug Smiler: Kaden has a permanent look of superiority on his face with a smirk that just makes you want to punch him in the face.
  • Smug Snake: Greta is almost suicidally confident in her ability to easily defeat anyone around her.
  • The Snark Knight: Droog took up the role of being the sarcastic asshole for most of TXA...He doesn't seem to like that he's this though.
  • The Social Darwinist: Hazel considers himself superior to everyone else because of his "genius" and believing himself to be an amazing spell caster. He's called out on this quite a bit, and eventually grows out of it.
  • Sole Survivor: Every season has a winner in the end, and these are the lucky people that somehow became it.
    • Total Xtreme Island: Brick
    • Total Xtreme Action: Droog
  • Spoiled Brat: Hinted at with Odetta, since it's hinted that her parents allow her to get away with anything she wants.
  • The Stoic: Dante barely shows any emotions other than indifference and silent anger.
  • Stoic Spectacles: Ace tries his hardest to not show very much emotions to others due to a belief it might negatively affect his game, and he actually is one of the few contestants who needs to wear glasses. He's also gay, but that doesn't really matter much.
  • The Strategist:
    • Charles is a brilliant writer who knows how to bend things in his favor.
    • Yavis quickly starts the first alliance of the game.
    • Josephine is purposefully making herself act weird in order to get further in the competition.
  • Strong Girl, Smart Guy: Tempest is easily the strongest contestant across the entire series, and yet she's in a happy relationship with Zetsu, resident geek and known potential genius.
  • Take That!: Multiple are thrown towards Total Drama, Survivor, Big Brother, The Amazing Race, and even their own series! Nobody is safe!
  • Team Mom: Kanaya's entire purpose originally in the Xtreme series was to act as a motherly and caring figure for the rest of the cast.
  • Throwing the Fight: The Mysterious Mesprit throw the challenge in "Battle Blockade" in order to eliminate Greta.
  • Token Evil Teammate: Droog for the Grovyles, being the only member of the team who is unabashedly antagonistic and rude to the others(besides Alia), and actually served as the main villain of the team.
  • Token Good Teammate: Valin for the Mysterious Mesprit, who's the only player who didn't want to throw the challenge to eliminate Greta, believing she's actually a sweet girl at heart who's just adjusting. He doesn't even vote her off at that episode's elimination, despite her savagely beating him earlier
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: Sage and Juvia respectively.
  • Tomboy with a Girly Streak: Isabel gets along with a majority of the male cast a lot better than most of the girls, mostly due to having a lot of traits commonly associated with men, but don't mistake the fact that she's also probably one of the girliest at times.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass:
    • Cynthia is going through a lot of stress back home to a point of basically having a tragically unhappy life, which ended up causing this stress to manifest into envy and hatred towards Izaya, someone who lives a similar life but is happy. She actually tries to use this as a Freudian Excuse during the second aftermath, until Juvia calls her out on it and basically destroys what was once a good reputation for her further.
    • While he was never the nicest person, Jet got notably more hostile during the loser episodes of TXI, and was basically a full-on Jerkass by TXA and TXWT, being probably the most universally disliked contestant, since he literally has no friends and is unpopular with the fanbase.
    • Reyna similarly was never the nicest character in the cast, not really having a positive reception per-say, but certainly not being the nicest person. However, everyone still couldn't help but question how her hatred for Sage somehow has gotten to a point where she'll actually hurt those closer to her just to try and spite her. Unlike the others though, she still does at least have some friends.
  • Took a Level in Kindness:
    • Devereux and Kaden are among the most cruel and rude contestants, treating most others like dirt while their huge egos stop them from truly developing, but upon beginning a relationship with one another, both have actually made some improvements. Devereux has began to showcase a kinder side while around him, Kaden clearly isn't as rude now, and both clearly have grown to deeply care about and worry for one another.
    • While still not very popular, Hyde notably began to become a better person after forming an Odd Friendship with Tempest. Considering the dude was an absolutely disgusting pervert for most of the season and constantly showed himself to be the definition of a Hate Sink, it was nice finally seeing the guy become a surprisingly decent person by some definition.
  • Totally Radical: Chad and Decker actually bond over having a similar kind of slang...As in they talk like they're a mixture of surfer dudes and frat bros. Decker's is a bit more toned down though.
  • Tragic Villain: Jesus, Droog is possibly one of the most relatable characters in the series despite being the Big Bad of TXA, and it all comes down to just how tragically cruel life has been towards him all his life. Born as the bastard son of a whore and a father he never met, he's lived his entire life either in an abusive household with with negligent and cruel mother, or he's ran off on his own, living on his own on the streets and barely getting by. Then he somehow is accepted into TXA and gets a girlfriend...Only to learn later on that she only started a relationship with him in order to piss off her own parents, causing him to have a mental breakdown and completely isolate himself further from everyone else around him. By the end of the season, Droog is very much a broken man, but decides that now that he won the show, he's gonna finally acknowledge this fact and actually get some help. But even then, it's awful that anyone would have to grow up under these conditions, and the bad part is that some people probably have gone through similar situations.
  • Tranquil Fury: Dante is absolutely furious with Granbull and her actions throughout the show, but you wouldn't be able to tell based off his status as a monotone brute.
  • Villainous Breakdown: As mentioned above, Droog has a complete mental breakdown and starts screaming at the top of his lungs in absolute fury and fear after learning that his girlfriend hadn't started a relationship with him for legitimate reasons, instead basically using him.
  • Villain Protagonist: Droog acts as both this and as the Big Bad of TXA. Throughout the season, he's bar-none the one who gets the most development overall, and is definitely a main character, but the horrible things he did throughout the series are hard to ignore, so it's hard to call him truly a good guy, even if he does have a Heel–Face Turn.
  • Violently Protective Girlfriend: Zetsu is basically a complete pushover most of the time and isn't very strong to boot, thus leading to the guy getting easily pushed around by just about everyone...That is until he started dating Tempest, who basically will attack anyone who treats him badly and will go through hell and back in order to keep him safe.
    • Juvia has also become a very protective person towards her long-time boyfriend, Izaya. While normally one of the sweetest(and ditziest) contestants in the series, messing with him or those she considers family is basically asking for a beatdown. She's usually very apologetic afterwards though, usually explaining she never knows what comes over her, and that she's trying to get better at controlling this side of her.
  • Voted Off the Island: Throughout every season, this is how the contestants get eliminated and taken out of the show.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: While not a hero by any definition, everyone was horrified upon learning that Dante beat Greta into a bad enough state that she would actually be medevaced if the hosts were allowed to have them.
  • Wide-Eyed Idealist: Juvia started off as happily innocent and seeing the world as completely made up of sunshine and rainbows...That poor girl went through some very depressing Character Development.
  • Wild Card: Besides her insane strength, the biggest reason why Tempest is such a major threat is the fact that she's completely unpredictable and a loose cannon.
  • Would Hit a Girl: Dante is more than willing to hurt anyone who tries to injure those he considers too weak to defend themselves.
  • Yes-Man: Monsoon serves as this for Izaya, approving of basically every idea he has.
  • Zombie Apocalypse: Merle is a strong believer that this is a certainty, and is training himself everyday to prepare for one, even bringing a large assortment of weapons to the island with him just in case it broke out while he competed.
