The Jupiter-Men

    In-General

The titular team of teenage superheroes and the protagonists of the story. Drawn together by circumstance and disappearance of Jupiter-City's only superhero, Quintin, Jackie, Arrio, and Nathan try their best to fill Jupiter-Man's shoes as the Star Guardian until they can find him.

  • Always Identical Twins: Discussed. Quintin's hair is shorter and thicker than his sister Jackie's much curlier and more voluminous hair. Their eyes are slightly different shades of brown and Quintin's hair is dyed light green at the ends. They don't dress alike either, with Quintin wearing a simple hoodie and shorts while Jackie wears denim over a shoulderless blouse and short shorts. Rick is surprised to learn that Quintin is Jackie's twin, as they're fraternal twins who don't look identical, initially assuming that they're simply friends.
Jackie: Hmm... have I never mentioned my twin brother?
Rick: Twins...? But you guys don't look the same.
[Beat Panel as Rick looks between the two of them]
Jackie: Jeez! I sure hope not!
    Quintin: Hey!
  • Book Dumb: Quintin, Jackie, and Arrio all struggle in different subjects in school but excel in other areas.
    • Quintin is implied to be doing worse in school than Jackie, who is a straight-C student. He doesn't pay attention at all in math or health class and initially mistakes his new slime powers as a side effect of puberty. But Quintin is capable of in-depth research into subjects he's interested in, going so far as to take his own pictures of Jupiter-Man, though his efforts go unappreciated owing to his belief that Jupiter-Man has superpowers. He's also shown to be a reasonably skilled sketch artist, drawing an accurate depiction of the Star Seed he and Jackie encountered the previous night, and designing his own superhero costume with Nathan's tech. His official character bio describes him as a creative and a deep thinker who comes up with great ideas.
    • Jackie is described as a "straight-C student" by Arrio. But outside of academics, Jackie is a cheerleader, a member of multiple clubs (though she's known to bounce between them), and is social and popular. She's also athletic enough that no one bats an eye when she accidentally makes a volleyball pop with a spike or buries another one in the ceiling.
    • Arrio is noted to be flunking Spanish even though his mother spoke it fluently enough to use as her Language of Magic. Despite this, he juggles his responsibilities remarkably well and is frequently portrayed as a source of reason and wisdom for the Avalon twins.
  • Brother–Sister Team: For all their bickering, the Avalon twins work well together and are the ones most frequently paired up together in fight scenes.
  • Chromatic Arrangement: The three main characters at the start of the story are Quintin, Jackie, and Nathan, who are strongly associated with green, blue, and red respectively. This is reflective of their personalities: Quintin is energetic and sweet, Jackie socially adept but superficial, and Nathan is deadly serious and the most devoted to the role of being a Star Guardian.
  • Color-Coded Characters: Each of the Jupiter-Men are associated with a particular color.
    • Quintin is strongly associated with bright green, both to match the color of his slime and his energetic personality.
    • Jackie is frequently depicted with baby blue clothes, which illustrate her feminity and a differing kind of energy from her brother's.
    • Arrio is associated with the color orange, which is associated with positivity and warmth. His first use of his powers involves producing fire in his hands and he's a warm, protective influence on the twins. His hair is naturally orange and his favorite dessert is carrot cake.
    • Nathan is strongly associated with the color red, both in his casual clothes and his superhero uniform. It underscores his passion for his role as a Star Guardian. Red's association with anger also match Nathan's workaholic and critical personality, needling his teammates over their failings and for not being as fixated on the job as him.
  • Fatal Flaw:
    • For Quintin, it's stubbornness and short-sightedness. Quintin is a Wide-Eyed Idealist who is convinced that he can use his powers to fight crime like his idol, Jupiter-Man. But while he has great ideas, it's difficult to change his mind once he has it set on something. This leads him to take reckless action without regard for the potential consequences for himself or others because he thinks it's the right thing to do.
    • Jackie suffers from vanity and laziness. She is highly superficial and only really does what she has to do. It's clear that she doesn't particularly like being a Star Guardian and complains about not having anything fun to do because of her duties. She's willing to manipulate Rick's feelings for her just to keep being invited to his parties, much to Arrio's disgust, as he complains that she's willing to party it up with the guy who tried to beat him and Quintin up.
    • Nathan has two of them:
      • First, he's rigid to a fault. His cynical By-the-Book Cop with an inflexible attitude. He rarely deviates from what he thinks is correct and justified unless circumstances force him to compromise. His tendency to play his cards so close to his chest makes it difficult for him to see alternate perspectives or accept information that contradicts his beliefs. His attempts to instill this same mindset on the other Jupiter-Men drives them away from him and makes them less receptive to his ideas and experience. This leads to his teammates going behind his back frequently, for better or worse.
      • His guarded cynicism also makes it difficult for him to open up to and trust others. Nathan struggles to hear other people out and treats everyone with suspicion. While this is sometimes warranted, this cynicism leads him to condescend to his teammates and give them the crude version of events because he doesn't trust them. This becomes a feedback loop when the other Jupiter-Men disobey him because he doesn't give them enough information, which leads him to not trust them, which leads to more disobedience.
  • Five-Man Band: The team starts to settle into this dynamic once Lavani joins.
    • Nathan is The Hero and The Leader as the most experienced member of the group and the one who was supposed to inherit the Star Seed.
    • Arrio is The Lancer. He's the laidback and mischevious foil to Nathan's straight-laced and dutiful personality. Arrio's flexible and powerful magic also contrasts Nathan's lack of powers.
    • Jackie is The Big Guy, as her powers grant her Super-Strength and Super-Toughness that make her the best at hitting things hard and protecting the others.
    • Lavani is The Smart Guy, as she is the most intelligent and technologically-savvy member of the team by far thanks to her Mechalyte upbringing.
    • Quintin is The Heart. He's the emotional center of the team who tries to resolve disputes and openly tries to do more with his powers than just defeat the starstruck.
  • Foil: Arrio is this to Nathan. Both of them act as older peers to the twins who look out for them. But Arrio is Quintin's and Jackie's Childhood Friend who relates to both of them on a personal level. He's warm, understanding, and protective of them. Nathan has a much more aloof and professional relationship with the twins, drilling them constantly to be proper Star Guardians without regard for their personal lives and criticizing them for their mistakes. While he cares for the twins's well-being, he's so straight-laced that he constantly butts heads with the twins and Arrio for being less devoted to the role and the rules than him. Their personal lives are also opposites: Arrio is a Former Teen Rebel whose family lives modestly enough that he works part-time jobs and tries to cut his own sister's hair to save money. Nathan is a Lonely Rich Kid who has spent his life studying and training to be a Star Guardian and is set to inherit a billion-dollar tech company.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling:
    • Jackie is the "responsible one" who is much more sociable and down-to-earth. She's often the one who has to rein him in even when she'd much rather be doing something else. Quintin is a daydreamer and a Hero-Worshipper who is mocked by his classmates for his "looney" obsession with Jupiter-Man. He's energetic and impulsive, rushing off at a moments notice in hopes of catching even the slightest glimpse of Jupiter City's hero.
    • Then there's their dynamic when it comes to superheroing. Jackie is superficial and only does what she needs to do as a Star Guardian. Meanwhile, Quintin feels compelled to help people as a crimefighter. While Jackie is able to more or less keep her Secret Identity under wraps, Quintin's Triple Shifter tendency quickly wears him out and results in him nearly losing his Secret Identity. But while Quintin feels too responsible and takes on too much, Jackie is too irresponsible with her powers uses them for pranks and party tricks, leading to issues when her abilities have unexpected effects.
  • Force and Finesse: Quintin is the finesse to Jackie's force. Quintin's Elemental Shapeshifter powers don't produce a lot of raw force by comparison, but he's able grab things from a distance, uses his arms like a Grappling-Hook Gun, and cover things in slime thick enough to stop bullets. Jackie's powers grant her Super-Strength and Nigh-Invulnerability so long as she's fully charged with electricity, letting her stare down the barrel of a gun without fear and throw dumpsters at people.
  • Free-Range Children: Due to their mom's busy schedule as a police officer and their dad being conspicuously absent, the Avalon twins are generally left to their own devices with only Arrio serving as a chaperone and chauffeur from time to time. This is why Quintin and Jackie are able to do superhero things without getting in trouble with their mom. Arrio has the excuse of his part-time job to be out after hours. Nathan has no supervision at all since both of his parents are missing and his guardian is an apathetic Gold Digger.
  • Freudian Trio:
    • Quintin, Jackie, and Nathan form this dynamic as the Id, Ego, and Superego respectively. Quintin is a Wide-Eyed Idealist who is often recklessly determined to help others and is prone to not thinking things through. Nathan is the stern and disciplined Experienced Protagonist who admonishes Quintin for his short-sightedness and is reluctant to seek out crime to fight because of how the team is barely handling their Star Guardian duties as is. Jackie is not as uptight as Nathan or as optimistic as Quintin, voicing complaints about both of their approaches to their roles.
    • Quintin and Jackie form another one of these with Arrio, but with Jackie as the Superego and Arrio as the Ego. Quintin's idealism and feelings of responsibility causes him to butt heads with Jackie's more selfish and down-to-earth wants. Arrio is older and wiser than both of them, approaching both of them with equal parts kindness and measured reason.
  • Headbutting Heroes: Arrio and Nathan do not get along because of their completely opposing personalities. Arrio's laidback demeanor infuriates Nathan, a Workaholic insistent on performing his duty as best he can. Similarly, Arrio can't stand Nathan's nagging and willingness to put the twins in harm's way even if there's no other choice. It doesn't help that Nathan introduces himself to Arrio by threatening to deport Arrio to another dimension. They're so opposed that Arrio can't even float the idea of hanging out with Nathan for fun with a straight face, laughing loudly at the absurdity of it.
Arrio: [when the team has to split up] Yeah, partnering with him would be torture.
    Nathan: [glares at Arrio] ...
Arrio: What? I know you're thinking it too.
  • Instant Costume Change: Secret Mun Tech gadgetry allows the Jupiter-Men to instantly don their costumes just by wearing their mask and/or putting on their team communicators. This cause their super outfits to overwrite their current clothes. Returning to civilian wear is as simple as taking their masks off.
  • Kid Hero: The story first revolves around first-year high schoolers Quintin and Jackie Avalon, who gain superpowers and become Jupiter City's protectors in place of Jupiter-Man. They're soon joined by sixteen-year-old Arrio and seventeen-year-old Nathan.
  • Loyal Phlebotinum:
    • Nathan is alarmed to learn that the Star Seed has been bonded to Quintin's and Jackie's souls, meaning there's no removing their powers without ripping the life out of them. This forces him to enlist the twins' aid as Star Guardians until they can find Jupiter-Man and safely remove the Star Seed from them.
    • Arrio's Ring of Power and Spell Book bond to him when he puts on the ring, preventing anyone else from using them and keeping the ring from coming off his finger. The invading mage attempts to solve this by cutting off Arrio's ring finger with a jet of flame, but Jackie stops him via Dynamic Entry.
  • My Suit Is Also Super: Quintin and Jackie's costumes are created by secret Mun Tech technology specifically to adapt to their powers. Quintin's costume breaks down when he transforms parts of his body into slime and back to avoid impeding his movement. Jackie gets a self-recharging battery to help her use her powers for longer periods before waiting for it to recharge.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: Justified. Nathan's Domino Mask, while seemingly minimal as far as disguises go, utilizes holographic technology that toggles through random facial features to keep his Secret Identity safe. He gives similar masks to Quintin and Jackie to protect their identities as well. It's later revealed that the masks are secondary and that the team's earbuds are the source of the holographic effect.
  • Physical, Mystical, Technological: Jackie, Arrio, and Nathan have this relationship regarding their roles in combat.
    • Jackie is the Physical, as her powers grant her Super-Strength and Super-Toughness, making her the go-to girl for tackling the problem head-on and protecting her much more vulnerable teammates.
    • Arrio is the Mystical. He's the Token Wizard capable of using powerful magic to assist and defend.
    • Nathan is the Technological. His experience and mastery of his father's advanced technology allow him to provide technical solutions and lead while aiding Jackie on the front lines.
  • Polar Opposite Twins:
    • Quintin is Hot-Blooded, goofy, and so obsessed with Jupiter-Man that he's mocked by his classmates. Jackie is much more down-to-earth, sociable, and popular. She's a cheerleader who bounces from club to club and is much more interested in partying than being her brother's minder. While Quintin loves his new superpowers and believes that he must use them for the sake of others, Jackie would rather use them for pranks and cheap perks like getting free snacks from a vending machine.
    • This also shows in their powers. Quintin is highly creative and comes up with many uses for his ability to shapeshift into slime, including being a Rubber Man, getting around via Super Sliding, and Shapeshifting Heals Wounds. Jackie's ability to convert electricity into physical power and explosive Bunny Bombs are comparatively rigid and less flexible, but much more powerful in a direct fight.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni:
    • Despite being on the same team, Quintin and Nathan are frequently depicted as polar opposites. Quintin is creative, altruistic to a fault, open-minded (to the point of being called Super Gullible) and impulsive. By contrast, Nathan is a narrow-minded By-the-Book Cop, openly skeptical of others' actions and intentions, mature, and stoic.
    • Arrio is the Red Oni to Nathan's Blue Oni. Whereas Arrio is emotional and laidback, Nathan is stoic and professional. Arrio is hot-headed in stressful situations but kind and understanding to his friends. Nathan tends to keep a cool head but is so devoted to his role as a Star Guardian that he tends to disregard the personal circumstances of others.
  • Supernatural Sensitivity: As the bearers of the Star Seed, the Avalon twins get a vague sense of concentrations of cosmic energy to locate starstruck monsters and supervillains. They describe the feeling of cosmic energy as a Gut Feeling that they would tell them to run away, only they know they have to run towards the source of that feeling as Star Guardians.
  • Thinking Up Portals: Quintin and Jackie possess the ability to create true Primari portals capable of traveling to other dimensions. Unlike other means of trans-dimensional travel, those who travel to other dimensions this way do not require an anchor to tether them to that plane. However, they can only create a complete portal if they're near each other. Should they be separated, they each have to conjure one end of the portal to create a proper tunnel through space. Trying to enter an incomplete portal is the same as running into a wall.
  • Weak to Fire:
    • Intense heat weakens the consistency of Quintin's slime and can melt it into a thin liquid. In extreme cases, Quintin will start falling apart, as his leg falls off while trapped in a ring of fire.
    • While Jackie's powers make her resistant to physical trauma, she can still be burned by intense heat. She yelps in pain when a spark of flame touches her skin.
  • Wonder Twin Powers:
    • Quintin and Jackie possess Jupiter-Man's ability to remove the cosmic energy that mutates starstruck creatures into monsters, but only while they're both touching it since they each share half of the Star Seed. Nathan needs both twins on board with becoming superheroes because of this, as there's no other way to permanently neutralize a starstruck monster.
    • This also applies to their ability to create portals. They must be in close proximity to each other to create a complete portal. Should the twins be separated, one twin can start making a portal, but the other twin must finish it from the other end.

    Quintin Avalon / Gusher

Click hereto see him as Gusher

The energetic, goofy, and obsessive Avalon twin, Quintin believes his hero has superpowers and is out to prove it by catching him on camera.

After coming in contact with the Star Seed, Quintin gains the power to convert parts of his body into a highly elastic slime, becoming the superhero Gusher when Nathan recruits him as a stand-in Star Guardian.

  • Affectionate Nickname: Arrio calls Quintin "Q-Man" for short. His mother and sister also call him "Quin".
  • Afraid of Doctors: Quintin is terrified of doctors, nurses, and hospitals and would rather see anything else. Even when he's freaking out over his powers turning him into green slime and sticking him to everything, he'd much rather revisit the site of the explosion for clues than see a doctor. He's so desperate to avoid seeing a doctor that he offers to buy Jackie whatever clothes she wants to get her to agree with his plan to visit the construction site. His phobia is so severe that he can't stand being in anything resembling a hospital room, such as the medical bay in Nathan's Elaborate Underground Base.
  • Ascended Fanboy: Quintin is Jupiter-Man's biggest fan and takes up the role of being his idol's substitute after Jupiter-Man goes missing.
  • Bad Liar: Quintin is so awful at laying that his attempts to explain his constant absences only make Arrio more suspicious. This is Played for Laughs and Played for Drama, as Quintin's inability to convincingly lie makes it difficult for him to maintain his Secret Identity if he's under any kind of pressure.
Arrio: Putting aside that nightmare of a day... what were you guys talking about~?
Quintin: [sweating bullets] Talking about? What would we be talking about? Were we even talking?! You're not making sense!
Jackie: [imitating Quintin] Just need to act normal.
  • Brilliant, but Lazy: Quintin's Photographic Memory should make it trivial for him to succeed in school. But he pays so little attention in class that he gets poor grades anyways. When he is paying attention, he's surprisingly gifted at making Indy Ploys and can memorize complex passcodes with a glance.
  • Building Swing: Quintin can rapidly traverse Jupiter City by extending and retracting his arms to swing himself around as though he has a Grappling-Hook Gun.
  • Camera Fiend: Quintin never goes anywhere without his trusty camera, a one-of-a-kind point and click/instant camera hybrid with a retro aesthetic commissioned by his dad. He uses it constantly to try to take pictures of Jupiter-Man. It's Quintin's most prized possession and he immediately rushes off to go find it when he realizes that his mom dragged him home without it.
  • Childish Tooth Gap: Quintin has a slight tooth gap on the left side of his mouth, emphasizing his youthful exuberance and optimism in contrast to his more down-to-earth sister.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: Quintin can't sit around while someone's in trouble. He instantly rushes to the aid of one of Rick Grime's bully victims and doesn't regret it even when Quintin comes within a hairs-breadth of getting pummeled instead. Quintin later tries to confront a Titan gang member who's mugging an art student, only to get yanked back by Jackie who borrows his hoodie to threaten the mugger with a thrown dumpster.
  • Combat Tentacles: Quintin's most frequent use for his powers is to stretch his arms, hands, or fingers to incredible lengths to extend his reach. After sticking to something, he can reel whatever he stuck to in or pull himself toward them.
  • Covered in Gunge: Quintin can inflict this on others thanks to his slime powers. While getting a gun pointed at him by a gang member, Quintin tries to stick his hands up to get the mugger to wait, only to accidentally fling slime at the man's gun. This slime is so thick that it stops the bullet as mugger tries to pull the trigger, saving Quintin's life.
  • Curious as a Monkey: Quintin is always trying to find out more about Jupiter-Man and catch a solid picture of him on camera. When he and Jackie encounter a strange glowing ball in a construction site, Jackie tells him not to touch it because it might activate some alien weapon or vaporize them. This just makes Quintin more excited to touch it, responding with, "Oooh! You think so?" He also thinks nothing of trying to taste the black, starry goop he found in the alleyway, only stopping because of sounds he heard above him.
  • Determinator: When Quintin gets an idea in his head, he won't stop until he sees it through. Even when he's melting from extreme heat, he manages to pull himself together and lob acid at the Magite's flower, banishing the invader back to Magi. But this is not always portrayed as a good thing. He has a tendency to get tunnel vision from being single-mindedly focused on achieving a goal, disregarding obvious pitfalls and how his actions affect others. Quintin gets into a lot of trouble precisely because he doesn't know when to quit and often disregards well-intentioned advice.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Discussed. Quintin is creative and a quick-thinker, but he tends to act on his own and rarely informs the others of what he plans to do. Quintin's inability to listen and properly communicate causes him to make assumptions and fail to coordinate with others. Nathan points out in episode 58 that while he said the other Jupiter-Men could become the leader, he never said they couldn't coordinate or had to compete with one another.
  • Elemental Shapeshifter:
    • Quintin has the ability to turn any part of his body into a green slime that can either be viscous or slippery. He can freely extend his limbs to greatly extend his reach and grapple himself anywhere he can stick his hands. Conversely, he can reel things toward him like a fishing rod. He can also fling chunks of slime thick enough to stop bullets as projectiles.
    • However, because his powers work by breaking his body parts into slime, he suffers from adverse affects if he tries to do this to his vital organs. After stretching his neck, he needs to catch his breath because of how far his head was from his lungs, making it difficult to breathe properly. Attempting to turn his head or his torso into slime leads to nausea and vomiting. The author has stated that he could potentially accomplish this, but he'd risk switching the positions of his heart and liver if he isn't careful.
  • Embarrassing Hobby: While it's not uncommon for young people to be fans of Jupiter-Man, Quintin's fixation on him borders on obsession. His classmates snicker at him when he insists that Jupiter-Man must have superpowers but even his friends and loved ones can't wrap their heads around Quintin's hobby. Arrio has to convince some sophomores not to pick on Quintin for his "looney" presentation and Jackie calls Quintin "crazy" and shows disdain for how dumbfounding his project was. Quintin is clearly hurt by this and grumbles about how no one around him believes him.
  • Embarrassing Superpower: Quintin's slime powers are pretty cool, but the slime he turns into is the same color as snot. He accidentally covers his entire class with slime the first day he has them and gets ordered to go to the nurse's office as a result. His first transformations aren't voluntary either and he sticks to anything he touches. He gets stuck on a door that Jackie pushed him into until she tore him off it along with a chunk of the door. He then proceeds to stick to every wall of the closet he's in every time Jackie tries to pull him off. In addition, his actual snot becomes extra thick and gooey when he sneezes.
  • Facial Markings: When he is dressed as Gusher, he gains two purple marks beneath his eyes. They seem to come from the costume, as they immediately disappear once he takes the costume off.
  • Giver of Lame Names: His first idea for a superhero code name is "Super-Ultra-Slime-Man". Nathan later tells him to cut it down to four syllables or less, after which he chooses the much more manageable (and slightly cooler sounding) Gusher. Subverted for Jackie, as she likes the name "Powerhouse" that he comes up with. He later comes up with "Spellblazer" for Arrio, but only after going through, "Heat-Hands", "Knight-Light", "Sunstroke", and "Fire-Finger".
  • Goo It Up: Quintin's primary superpower is the ability to turn parts of his body into a highly elastic slime. The slime's other properties depend on his intent. It can be sticky for entangling foes, performing a Building Swing, or jamming guns. He can also make it slippery enough for him to skate across the ground on at high speeds. He later figures out how to consciously turn his slime acidic, allowing it to burn or even melt objects.|
  • Green Around the Gills: Quintin turns a bright shade of green when he tries to turn his torso into slime rather than his limbs, quickly collapsing from nausea and throwing up all over the floor.
  • Hero-Worshipper: Quintin is an enormous fanboy for Jupiter-Man and is constantly trying to capture the hero on camera. He spends all of his free time browing the Polaris website for sightings of Jupiter-Man and spent his whole social studies project trying to prove that Jupiter-Man has superpowers. Episode 22 reveals that this is because Jupiter-Man saved his life when Quintin got hit by a car, resulting in Quintin's admiration for him and desire to emulate him.
  • Hollywood Acid: He accidentally turns his slime arms into a kind of purple acid that burns the monster he's holding onto. Quintin later learns to fling it like he does his normal slime, banishing the Magite back to Magi by melting the flower keeping him tethered to Prime.
  • Hot-Blooded: Quintin is full of positivity and "child-like wonder" when it comes to Jupiter-Man. His Establishing Character Moment at the start of the series has him giving a long-winded presentation where he loudly declares his belief that Jupiter-Man has superpowers. He takes off in a sprint the second he gets word of a nearby sighting of Jupiter-Man. His gestures also tend to be exaggerated and cartoony, waving his arm around wildly to try and get the slime off his hand. Once he realizes he can control his powers and uses them to help stop a mugging, Quintin is stoked to have them and believes he must use them for the sake of others.
  • How Do I Shot Web?: Even after getting a basic handle on his powers, Quintin struggles to turn his slime into acid at will, only doing so completely by accident during the fight with the Sizeshifter dog and the Man-Eating Plant.
  • I'm Melting!: Quintin panics when he first gets his powers as his arms are stumps melting into green slime. He shuts his eyes and has a Rapid-Fire "No!" as he wishes it to stop. He's relieved when he opens his eyes and his hands are back. When facing his first supervillain, he starts to melt from exposure to intense magical fire, his leg falling off as he collapses on the ground.
  • Improvised Weapon: Quintin literally throws the book at Rick to try and stop Rick from picking on another kid. He misses the first time, but gets enough time to tell Rick to hold on while he fishes out another book to hit Rick in the face.
  • Improvisational Ingenuity: Given that Jackie is often busy being the muscle of the team, it often falls to Quintin to come up with the actual plan in a given situation. Luckily for him, Quintin is quick on his feet despite his inexperience, coming up with the Eat Me plan to get to the Toxic Star of the Man-Eating Plant and later using his arm as a sling to shoot the plant with one of its own barbed quills.
Quintin: Why am I the only one ever coming with a— [has a "Eureka!" Moment] plan! I have a plan!
  • In the Hood: Quintin spends the early part of the story wearing a beige hoodie that he often pulls over his head when he's walking around alone. Jackie pulls it shut over his face when Quintin points out that it was her choice to chase him back into the city and to look for his camera. She later borrows it to hide her face while intervening in a mugging.
  • Jumped at the Call: Quintin's narration in Episode 9 makes it clear that he's even more interested in the idea of being noticed by Jupiter-Man and becoming his sidekick than finding out where his powers came from. After getting the full story from Nathan, Quintin leaps at the idea of acting as a Star Guardian in Jupiter-Man's place. He also takes great glee in coming up with Code Names for everyone.
  • Limited Wardrobe: In contrast to Jackie frequently changing outfits every few episodes, Quintin is almost always wearing the same hoodie-long sleeved shirt-T-shirt combo.
  • Messy Hair: Quintin's hair is perpetually messy, with parts of it sticking up in every direction. This is in contrast to his sister Jackie, who keeps her hair in Girlish Pigtails or braids as part of her insistence on looking good.
  • Nonconformist Dyed Hair: Quintin is something of an anti-social outcast due to his geeky obsession with Jupiter-Man that makes him the laughingstock of his peers. The ends of his hair are also dyed a variety of colors, but primarily lime green and lavender purple. This emphasizes his artistic and creative side while making him stand out from from his sister and peers. These colors also match the color of his normal and acidic slime respectively.
  • Photographic Memory: Quintin demonstrates an exceptional memory as the story goes on. He is able to sketch an almost perfect representation of the Star Seed the morning after it exploded in his and Jackie's faces. Later on, he punches in a 15-button keypad sequence after only seeing it once. This is in spite of the fact that none of the buttons have any symbols for Quintin to memorize a sequence off of, which has Nathan stumped. Quintin later explains that he developed this level of recall after Jupiter-Man saved his life.
  • Plot Allergy: Bearers of the Star Seed are able to get a vague feeling of cosmic energy activity when a starstruck monster or supervillain has appeared. In Quintin's case, he tends to sneeze a thick, gooey mucus when he gets that feeling of where the cosmic energy is.
  • Rubber Man: Quintin's most basic application of his slime powers is to stretch parts of his body to incredible lengths. In addition to the obvious use of grabbing things from far away, Quintin can stretch his neck to act as a human periscope.
  • Shapeshifting Heals Wounds: Quintin is able to heal away minor injuries like cuts and scrapes by turning the afflicted portion of his body into slime and back again. However, this only works if he's focused and energetic enough to concentrate on the part of him he wants healed. If he's exhausted, his attempts to heal himself will fail.
  • Super Sliding: Quintin is able to emit a slippery version of his slime through the soles of his shoes, letting him slide around quickly enough for the art to use Speed Lines even while grabbing flaming objects with his slime hands.
  • Swiss-Army Superpower: Quintin is creative enough to get a lot of mileage out of his Elemental Shapeshifter and Rubber Man powers. He can use his stickiness to Wall Crawl, grab and entangle things from a distance, use his limbs as four Grappling Hook Guns, heal himself by covering his injuries with slime, and squeeze at least one limb out of binds by using the semi-fluid nature of his slime to wrench it free. He can also burn others with acid, jam firearms, wrap himself in slime as protection against falls, and skate around on a slippery version of his slime. Lampshaded by Jackie, who complains that Quintin gets all sorts of applications for his powers when she seemingly only gets Super-Strength and Super-Toughness. Ironically, Jackie discovers that she may be able to do more than hit hard in the same episode.
  • This Cannot Be!: Quintin freaks out when he sees his arm turn into stretchy slime for the first time, screaming at the top of his lungs and running into the janitor's closet in a panic. At first he wonders if he's suffering Sanity Slippage but then has concerns that he's dying or turning into a zombie.
Quintin: This isn't happening! This isn't happening! This isn't happening!
  • Touched by Vorlons: Quintin suffered brain damage after being stuck by a truck when he was younger, resulting in vertigo and difficulty percieving his surroundings as anything more than a haze. Jupiter-Man uses a Healing Hands power to heal Quintin, which has the side effect of granting Quintin a Photographic Memory.
  • Trauma Button: Quintin has flashbacks to when he was nearly killed in a car accident when he sees a young girl trapped in a car at risk of being crushed by an enormous rock monster and caught in an oil tanker explosion. He rushes in to save her despite the risk and both of them are nearly killed with the oil tanker explodes.
  • Triple Shifter: Frustrated with Nathan's refusal to let him help the police fight mundane crime as Jupiter-Man, Quintin starts doing it on his own time. This quickly runs him ragged when combined with school and his Star Guardian duties, leaving him on the verge of passing out from overexertion and lack of sleep. This is repeatedly Played for Drama as it makes it even harder for him to maintain his Secret Identity and leads him to make all kinds of mistakes in the field. By the end of his stint as a solo vigilante, Quintin gives himself a fever from how hard he's been pushing himself.
  • Wide-Eyed Idealist: Quintin is an openly optimistic, cheery, and constantly energetic kid who leaps at the chance to help others with his new superpowers. While his sister is more down-to-earth and cynical about others to the point of trading Snark-to-Snark Combat with her fellow cheerleaders, Quintin is noted to be very trusting. He takes Nathan at his word even after Nathan kidnapped him and Jackie. As his bio says, he gives trust easily and is happy to offer second chances. When Nathan admonishes Quintin for trying to use his powers to stop mundane crime, Quintin looks equal parts disappointed and confused that Jupiter-Man's son would disagree with what Jupiter-Man is most famous for.
  • With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility: Once he starts getting the hang of his abilities, Quintin becomes convinced that he and Jackie have been chosen to use their powers for the greater good of mankind like Jupiter-Man. After he and Jackie stop a mugger, Quintin is eager to do it again.

    Jackie Avalon / Powerhouse

Click here to see her as Powerhouse

The sociable, flighty, and responsible Avalon twin, she's often tasked with being her brother's minder while their mom is at work.

After touching the Star Seed, she gains the power to convert electricity into superhuman strength and durability, becoming the superhero Powerhouse when Nathan recruits her to act as a stand-in Star Guardian.

  • Animal Motifs: Bunnies. Jackie is flighty and energetic, often hopping from one hobby to another. Her superhero costume has a tiara that looks like a pair of rabbit ears and Quintin says she looks like a space bunny. She can't resist taking in a startruck that looks like a bunny either. Official art from the artist's Twitter account also depicts Jackie as a show bunny being pulled out of a hat with Arrio as the magician.
  • Creative Sterility: Discussed. Nathan notes that Quintin has a much easier time coming up with new applications with his powers because of how creative he is. By contrast, Jackie's powers appear to be comparatively limited but she never tries to push the boundaries of her powers until she activates a new one by accident.
  • Deadpan Snarker: She frequently gripes at her brother's antics and groans whenever they're about to do something stupid, coping with a whole lot of snark.
Jackie: [after Nathan opens a "closet"] He wants us to go into a closet... Is this finally the time to worry...
    Quintin: [unflinchingly] Okie dokie.
Jackie: Wow Quintin, he didn't even have to offer you candy.
  • Does Not Know His Own Strength: Jackie struggles with her Super-Strength the first day after the explosion. She pops a volleyball while trying to spike it, buries another volleyball in the ceiling, crushes her phone in her hands, and shoves Quintin across a janitor's closet without even trying to. Her attempts to unstick him just get him flung all over the closet, which is a mess by the time they're done.
  • Dude Magnet: Jackie has multiple guys interested in her, including Rick Chang from the rugby team, without ever visibly trying to flirt with others. She shows outright disdain for Rick when speaking to Victoria but leads him by the nose to keep getting invited to his parties.
  • Elemental Baggage: Her Super-Strength and Nigh-Invulnerability are powered by an electric charge she takes from wiring or nearby appliances. But there's only so much charge she can get at a time even if it short circuits the machine. The more she uses her powers, the more frequently she has to recharge. Nathan gives her a battery unit to let her utilize her powers more frequently.
  • Eye Color Change: Jackie's eyes change from brown to bright blue while she's using her powers to match the Technicolor Lightning crackling around her when she's charged up.
  • The Fashionista: As expected of a popular teenaged girl, Jackie loves clothes, to the point that Quintin is able to bribe her by promising to buy her whatever she wants. She frequently changes outfits between episodes and takes great pleasure in making herself look good for a party.
  • Having a Blast: In Episode 41, Jackie discovers her ability to use her energy stores to create marble-sized "Bunny Bombs" that explode with concussive force. They come in two varieties: blue (detonates with a sufficiently strong impact or with continuous contact with water) and purple (which detonate on their own after a short period of time). She can cram more energy into them to make marbles larger and the explosion more powerful, but draining herself like this can make it difficult for Jackie to lift the Bunny Bomb to use it.
  • Head-Turning Beauty: Jackie's looks and taste in clothes earns blushes and stares from boys in the hallways. Victoria, the resident Alpha Bitch and fellow member of the cheerleading team, goes out of her way to try and put Jackie down for threatening her position in the social hierarchy. She's also a Dude Magnet who's had multiple guys vying for her affections, but has yet to show interest in any of them.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: After nearly blowing up Styx and Stones with her powers, Jackie admits to Arrio that she doesn't feel cut out to be a Star Guardian or a hero. Unlike Quintin who Jumped at the Call, Jackie sees her role as a duty she's stuck with and doesn't want. So she feels awful when Quintin runs himself ragged trying to be more and more responsible while she's doing the bare minimum and causing different kinds of trouble.
  • In a Single Bound: Jackie's Super-Strength also applies to her legs, letting her leap large distances. She is able to leap tall buildings in a single bound and jump from the roof of a car to right in front of a speeding truck to stop it in its tracks.
  • I Just Want to Be Normal: Despite the fun she has with her abilities, Jackie would much rather be a normal girl doing normal things. She never asked to be a Star Guardian and hates having to give up doing the things she loves to make time to stop monsters, resulting in her doing the bare minimum so she can keep doing as many of the fun things as she can. She later tells Arrio that she doesn't feel worthy of being called a "hero" because of this, especially when she compares herself to Quintin who Jumped at the Call.
  • I'm Taking Her Home with Me!: Jackie falls in love with a bunny-shaped starstruck monster and takes it home with her despite Nathan's warning that all starstruck monsters are dangerous. It isn't long before it starts multiplying rapidly and Jackie realizes how badly she messed up.
  • Jack of All Trades: While her grades are nothing to write home about, Jackie is a popular and important member of the Jupiter high cheerleading team, a talented mini golfer, and has bounced between the print, cooking, and Spanish clubs.
  • Nigh-Invulnerability: Jackie is as tough as she is strong while she's charged up. She's delighted to learn that she's bulletproof while her powers are active. However, her powers don't protect her from heat, so she can still be burned like anyone else.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: She's half the height of Rick Chang, a member of Jupiter High's rugby team, but her superpowers let her lift dumpsters over her head and carry barbells with her fingertips.
  • Phoneaholic Teenager: Jackie grabs Quintin by the collar and screams at him for how much trouble he's getting them in for defying his grounding to find his camera after their mom left Jackie in charge. She's on the verge of tears over the thought of having her phone taken away. She later crushes her phone by accident and cries over how her mom is never going to buy her another one.
  • Power Crutch: Jackie's Super-Strength and Nigh-Invulnerability are activated when she drains power from electronics via touch. Since electronics and exposed wiring aren't always available, Nathan gives her a self-charging battery to provide on-demand power. But this battery is also finite and needs at least five minutes to fully recharge, meaning that she's Brought Down to Normal during this time unless she can find another power source.
  • Primal Fear: Jackie screams when the lights go out in Nathan's base, implying that she's afraid of the dark. Arrio teases her about this and she jumps when he emphasizes this.
  • Refusal of the Call: After letting Quintin drag her into one life-threatening situation after another, Jackie refuses to act as Jupiter-Man's replacement after getting the full story from Nathan. It's only after she and her friends get attacked by a starstruck creature at the mall that she realizes she can't refuse to step up.
  • Super-Speed Reading: When Quintin has them running around in circles, Jackie swipes his phone to quickly scroll through the Polaris website and narrow their search down to three potential locations before he can finish protesting. According to her, filtering out the useless babble from her feeds is a honed skill for someone who gossips as much as she does.
  • Super-Strength: Jackie's powers give her superhuman strength, as shown on the title card when she cracks the ground beneath her with her heel. She's also strong enough to lift a dumpster above her head, casually tip over a vending machine with a finger, and make a volleyball pop when she tries to spike it. But she only maintains her powers so long as she's sufficiently charged up, requiring her to touch electronics or wiring to drain them of power to refill her battery.
  • Tomboyish Ponytail: She keeps her hair out of her in her superhero outfit by tying it into a ponytail behind her.
  • True Blue Femininity: Jackie is feminine and sociable. The outfit she wears in the first chapters is all baby blue and her superhero costume is the same color.
  • With Great Power Comes Great Perks:
    • In stark contrast to Quintin's belief in With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility, Jackie would much rather use her Super-Strength for things like tipping over vending machines to get free snacks or pulling pranks on others. While Quintin is eager to help more people, Jackie believes they shouldn't make a habit of vigilantism despite how much fun she had stopping a mugging.
    • After discovering her ability to transmit energy into explosive marble-shaped objects later named "Bunny Bombs" by Arrio, the first thing she does with it is to use it as a party trick to impress others.
  • Yellow Lightning, Blue Lightning: The electricity she uses to power her abilities is bright blue regardless of the power source she's taking it from.

    Arrio McKay / Spellblazer
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/arrio_official_profile_pic_jupiter_men.PNG
Click here to see him as Spellblazer

The twins' easygoing older friend who's easily distracted by the fairer sex. His goofy exterior hides his troubled upbringing and a strong protective streak toward Quintin and Jackie.

He learns that his mother was an extradimensional traveler from the Magi Dimension and that she passed down her magic ring and spell book to him. He uses them to become the superhero Spellblazer to help the Avalon twins in their responsibilities as Star Guardians.

  • Accidental Pervert: Arrio walks in on Jackie while she's only covered in a bath towel, resulting in her screaming as she comes out of the shower. He complains that she went to the shower forty minutes ago and that he figured she'd be out already.
  • Amplifier Artifact: Episode 52 reveals that Spell Books like Arrio's are rare and highly coveted among the Magite as they allow the caster to use spells without spending physical materials that make magic costly. This is why the enemy Magite tries so hard to take Arrio's, as using magic otherwise requires the use of "magic seeds".
  • Anger Born of Worry: Arrio gets increasingly annoyed by Quintin and Jackie's absences and inability to explain themselves beyond vague excuses, resulting in him trying to get to the bottom of their activities. It's this protective instinct that makes the twins refuse to tell him about their superhero activities, as Quintin describes him as being just as bad as their mom when it comes to them being in danger.
  • Anti-Magic: In addition to being able to cancel his own spells with "Disipar a Cenizar", Arrio demonstrates the ability to cancel the spells of other Magite with the incantation, "Fin de la Magia" (End of the Magic). But it doesn't seem to work on all spells, as he makes no attempt to use it against the familiars sicced on him afterward.
  • Attack Reflector: Arrio's first successful spell is "Espejo Solar" (Sun Mirror), which generates a blue shield that blocks an oncoming stream of fire before shooting it back with increased force.
  • Badass Driver: Arrio knows his way around a car despite not having a license, speeding through traffic in a Beetle he's never driven before to keep pace with the Titans. He's also handy with a moped, as shown when he beelines for Styx and Stones after Jackie calls him for help. According to the author, he may have been a getaway driver once or twice in his days as a gang member and applies his skills to act as a chauffeur for his friends and family.
  • Badass Fingersnap: This is a requirement for Arrio's magic, as the spells from his book only come into effect after he "speaks through [his] soul" and finishes the incantation with a snap.
  • Bag of Holding: Arrio's Ring of Power can store his Spell Book, keeping it safe from anyone tring to take it from him. He first activates this function by accident while trying to get his book back from an invading Magite that had taken Jackie hostage.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Arrio is naturally easygoing and accommodating. Even when people are annoying him, he will generally prefer to appease them and kill them with kindness rather than resort to conflict, as shown when he buys Lavani a phone case to show her that he has no ill will toward her. But Arrio isn't someone you want to push, as shown when Arrio beats the tar out of Rick for picking a fight.
  • Big Brother Instinct:
    • He treats the twins almost like younger siblings and goes out of his way to talk down some sophomores who planned to pester "the Jupiter-Man kid". He wouldn't hesitate to take a bullet for the twins and refers to their mom as "Aunt Bee" while helping her with groceries. In Episode 25, Arrio even says Quintin is like a brother to him. The minute that Quintin reveals that he has superpowers and is putting his life on the line to protect people, Arrio goes from running away from the supervillain to trying to lure the villain away from Quintin and Jackie. His official bio in Episode 35 calls him "paternal".
    • In Episode 43, he gets himself fired from his part-time job because of his willingness to steal a bunch of pizzas to help himself get inside Styx and Stones when Jackie calls him for help. He then consoles her when she admits that she doesn't feel cut out to be a Star Guardian between her reluctance to do more than she has to and the trouble she causes.
    • He's also a literal older brother to his younger sister, Jessie. While she pesters him to play with her, he's shown to be equally affectionate toward her despite her being an Annoying Younger Sibling.
  • Blatant Lies: Jackie correctly guesses that Arrio is going to watch "Bikini Spies: Return of the One Piece" with his other friends. Arrio tries to justify it by saying he's watching it strictly for the action and to protest the dysfunctional, revealing costume design. He himself lampshades what a terrible excuse that is and tries to come up with another one before the school bell rings.
  • Blow You Away: "Brisa Calida" (Warm Breeze) produces a gust of wind powerful enough to throw the flaming bunny monsters into the air and all around Arrio's surroundings. He eventually manages to fine tune it enough to sweep the remaining bunnies into a relatively small area so the team can find the original.
  • Butt-Monkey: When misfortune strikes, poor Arrio is usually the butt of it. He's covered in starstruck slime, walks in on Jackie in the shower, and is dragged on a shopping trip with Jackie and Lavani on the day he set aside to relax.
  • Burger Fool: He explains away a stomach injury and having a hole burnt in his shirt with a fryer accident, implying this. Episode 41 reveals that he works at a local pizza chain called "Dart Pizza". It's busy enough for him to not respond to Jackie outside of emergencies. He unfortunately gets fired two episodes later when he steals a bunch of pizzas as an excuse to enter Styx and Stones and help Jackie out of the mess she created.
  • Cast from Stamina: Arrio's magic requires a reserve of energy for him to use. He suffers a Power-Strain Blackout after his first spell. He remains woozy and exhausted even after he wakes up. He collapses again while dealing with the bunny monsters even after getting more practice in.
  • Childhood Friend: Arrio has known the Avalon twins since he was seven and apparently knows everything about them (even the stuff he wish he hadn't). This is why he's so concerned when the two of them are suddenly so busy that they can't make time for him because he knows it's not like them.
  • Child of Two Worlds: Arrio is born and raised on Prime but is half-Magite, which comes with loads of baggage once he learns of this. His inability to read and speak Spanish bites him in the rear when he learns that it's his mother's, and thus his, Language of Magic. He's also subject to prejudice from Lavani, whose people waged an enormous war with Magi in years past even though Arrio has nothing to do with Magi culturally and all of his experiences up to that point have given him a sour look on Magite culture.
  • Chivalrous Pervert: He's not exactly subtle about his appreciation for beautiful women and watches a rather raunchy-sounding film with his friends in his downtime. But there's no indication that he's ever done anything actually disrespectful to women and refuses to help Rick flirt with Jackie when Rick refuses to take a hint.
  • Convection, Schmonvection: His Fuerza de Fuego spell creates a bubble of superheated fire hot enough to incinerate almost anything that tries to penetrate it before it can reach whatever is inside. This heat obviously doesn't extend to whatever is within, or else they'd be cooked.
  • Cut Himself Shaving: After showing up to his own birthday party with bandages around his waist and a hole burned in his shirt from taking an Elemental Punch, Arrio explains it away as a fryer accident from work when asked about it.
  • Deadpan Snarker: When Arrio is annoyed he tends to resort to dropping snark at everyone around him. His official bio even calls him "Snarky" and mentions that he'll let you know if he's irritated by you.
Rick: [trying to get Arrio to help him] Come on, man~ You won't have to worry about homework for a week if you help me out!
Arrio: If I wanted to fail, I'd ask my baby sister to do my homework.
  • Delinquent Hair: Arrio keeps his hair in a pompadour that he has to style every morning. While he's squeaky clean now, this is a nod to his checkered past as a gang member and his continual mischevious streak.
  • Destructive Saviour: Arrio's attempts to contain the bunny monsters just lights them on fire, causing the surviving clones to start igniting everything they touch before becoming unstable and exploding. Nathan keeps him on the team because Arrio would be too dangerous to leave unsupervised given the destructive effects of his wanton magic use.
  • Distracted by the Sexy: Arrio stops mid-sentence to gaze at a beautiful girl walking by his and the twins' table. Jackie throws a french fry at his face to snap him out of it.
Jackie: [sneering] Sorry, you were drooling. I thought you were hungry.
  • Eloquent in My Native Tongue: Inverted. Arrio is a partly-Hispanic high schooler who is specifically flunking Spanish, much to Quintin's disbelief. He says he has to go to "trabago" (he means "trabajo", as in "work") and has to be corrected on it. This proves a detriment when he learns that all the spells and instructions in his book are written in Spanish.
  • Fiery Redhead: Downplayed. Most of the time, Arrio is laidback and easygoing, trying his best to be squeaky clean after running in a gang when he was younger. But he hasn't lost his fighting skills and is fierce when pushed, delivering a Curb-Stomp Battle to Barbaric Bully Rick after the latter picks a fight with him. His official profile notes that he has little patience for people for those who annoy him and is short-tempered around them (as in the aforementioned exchange with Rick).
  • Finger Gun: In addition to throwing fireballs by punching while wrapping his hands with fire, Arrio can shoot much smaller bursts of fire by making a finger fun gesture.
  • Former Teen Rebel:
    • Arrio is still a teenager, but dialogue indicates that he has a checkered past, so much so that a teacher at his school filed a restraining order against him in his sophomore year. Said teacher, Mr. Khan, panics when he sees Arrio despite Arrio's insistence that he's squeaky clean now. Episode 26 specifies that Arrio used to run in a gang years ago. He clearly knows his way around a scrap, easily dodging a punch from Rick before giving Rick a black eye.
    • In Episode 44, he takes Nathan's car without asking and remarks, "I've always wanted to be on the other side of a car chase!" implying that he's run from the cops in a car before. He also mentions that he knows how to drive, but pointedly dodges questions about having a license.
  • Friend to All Children: Due to looking after Quintin, Jackie, and Jessie, Arrio is responsible and good at handling children. In the finale of Season 1, he gently comforts a crying baby left behind by his parents and evacuates him from the chaos.
  • Glowing Eyes: After he puts his mom's ring on his finger and picks up her spell book, Arrio's eyes briefly glow orange before returning to normal, emphasizing his new connection to them. They glow gold whenever he starts casting magic.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: His mom was a Magite from the Magi Dimension, making him half-earthling/Primari, half-Magite.
  • How Do I Shot Web?: Arrio's powers are great but he's inexperienced due to having no formal schooling in magic. His first tries shouting spells from his book to get it to work to no avail. It's not until he remembers the instructions written at the end to speak from his soul and finish with a Badass Fingersnap that his incantations have actual effect.
  • Infrared X-Ray Camera: One of his spells, "Ojo de Fuego" (Eye of Fire), lets Arrio see the infrared spectrum to locate others through their heat signatures and even lets him see through walls.
  • Insistent Terminology: Arrio insists that he "borrowed" his friend Jude's copy of Boozooka Man. But he doesn't even bother to deny it when pressed on whether he took it without asking, reasoning that Jude won't even notice.
  • Invisible to Normals: Arrio's spell book appears as a blank journal until he puts on his mother's ring and starts tapping into his powers. After this, words and diagrams start appearing on the formerly blank pages.
  • Language of Magic: All of the spells in Arrio's Spell Book are written in Spanish. Unfortunately, Arrio is flunking Spanish, making it difficult for him to learn how to use his powers.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: After Taking the Bullet for Jackie, Arrio doesn't remember anything about the petal bees or being encased in crystal. He only knows that a monster attacked because of camera footage on the news.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Quintin insists on keeping his and Jackie's superpowers a secret from Arrio until they can get some answers from Jupiter-Man, reasoning that Arrio might tell Bea, who would go ballistic from worry over them. This is finally subverted when Quintin reveals his Secret Identity to him and Arrio joins the Jupiter-Men after gaining magical powers of his own.
  • Logical Weakness:
    • Arrio's Spell Book contains a wide variety of spells with different effects. But given that all the instructions are written in a language he struggles to speak and read correctly, Arrio wastes valuable time fumbling through his book while trying to parse out the spells' meaning. This gradually becomes less prevalent as he commits more spells from his book to memory.
    • Arrio needs to be able to finish his incantation and snap his finger in order to cast his magic. If he's forced to stop for any reason, he'll have to start the incantation over. This also means that he can't stealthily use magic because he has to say his spells out loud, leaving him helpless when Jackie is being held at flaming swordpoint.
  • Mage Species: The Magite are a Human Subspecies who developed the ability to perform magic while exploring the dimension that would become known as Magi. As a half-Magite, Arrio inherited his mother's ability to cast magic after receiving her book and ring on his sixteenth birthday.
  • Meaningful Name: His name means "war-like" or "fierce" in Spanish and refers to Ares, the Greek god of war. While Arrio is easy-going most of the time, he's an ex-gang member who quickly lays out someone bigger than him on his ass with a well-placed punch.
  • Mundane Utility: In Episode 47, Arrio mentions that he's started using magic to keep his room lit at night to save on the electric bill.
  • The Nicknamer: He's prone to giving diminutive nicknames to others in casual conversation. For instance, he calls Quintin "Q-Man" for short and shortens Quintin's superhero name to "Gush". Arrio also does this less flatteringly to people he doesn't like, calling Nathan "Grumpy".
  • No Ontological Inertia: Subverted. Arrio expects the magical fire that he produces to go away if he douses it with water after he stops actively casting. But the monsters Arrio set on fire burst back into flames immediately afterward. He has to use the failsafe spell, "Disipar a Cenizar" to dispel the effects of his magic in case something goes wrong.
  • Playing with Fire:
    • Arrio's first use of his powers is when he makes a fireball in his hands in a desperate attempt to free himself and help Quintin and Jackie, who are screaming in agony from the trap they're caught in. He later sets all the rabbit monsters on fire, only for them to escape and start lighting other things ablaze. This association with fire is what inspires Quintin to come up with the name "Spellblazer". In his first proper fight with a starstruck raven, he flings fireballs from his hands until Nathan tells him to cast something. Later on, he's improved his aim his aim enough to shoot Jackie's marble-sized Bunny Bombs accurately after tossing them in the air.
    • Many of Arrio's spells have to do with fire or heat in some way. For instance, Fuerza de Fuego erects a bubble of superheated fire that burns anything that tries to touch it.
  • Power-Strain Blackout: Arrio's first successful use of magic ends with him collapsing on the floor and passing out.
  • Reformed, but Not Tamed: Arrio is a former gang member who has since gone completely straight. But he retains his troublemaking, mischievous streak, as shown when he "borrows" a new video game from his friend Jude without letting him know. He also swipes Nathan's car when the latter left his keys in it and admits that he's always wanted to be the one doing the chasing in a car chase.
  • Reformed Criminal: Arrio used to run in an unspecified gang when he was younger. He was threatening enough that his teacher filed a restraining order against him. While he's gone completely straight, Arrio makes comments alluding to his checkered past, such as his history of being in car chases and "only" giving Rick a black eye when they fight. But Arrio hasn't lost all of his old habits, as he cheerfully steals Nathan's car when given the chance.
  • Ring of Power: Arrio's mom left him a ring that glows when he puts it on his finger. It's accompanied by an empty spell book with instructions to speak clearly through his soul and snap his fingers to enchant. Once Arrio activates his powers in full, the ring glows when he finishes a spell. It's also bonded to him, meaning that it won't ever come off his finger unless someone cuts his finger off.
  • Sad Clown: He's initially depicted as goofy, laidback and otherwise normal compared to what the twins get up to. But Episodes 23 and 24 make it clear that he's had a troubled home life, has a Missing Mom, and is a Former Teen Rebel.
  • Spell Book: His powers are utilized via reading from a spell book his mom left him. The words are all invisible except to those who've bonded to it and all of the words and instructions are in Spanish, Arrio's worst subject. In addition, he needs his Ring of Power and to perform a Badass Fingersnap to complete the spell.
  • Squishy Wizard: Downplayed. Arrio knows his way around a fistfight because of his past as a Reformed Criminal and possesses powerful, varied magic. But his ability to fend off giant monsters with his fists is limited compared to Quintin, Jackie, and Nathan. He also doesn't have a means of getting around quickly like the other Jupiter-Men. At one point, he misses out on a dramatic confrontation because he's the only member of the Jupiter-Men who has to take the stairs to get to the top of a building.
  • Summon to Hand: Arrio's ring and book are linked. So when they're separated, Arrio can shout for his book to return to him, something that he first does by accident while trying to get his book back from an invading Magite.
  • Supreme Chef: According to the author, Arrio is a great cook despite working a part-time job as a Burger Fool. This was a welcome relief for the twins when he babysat them, as Bea's cooking was awful. After the starstruck attacking the base is dealt with, he treats everyone to smoothies that they're seen enjoying as they relax.
  • Theme Naming: Most of Arrio's spells have to do with fire, the sun, and warmth. As a result, many of them have "fuego" in their name.
  • Token Wizard: Due to inheriting magical powers from his mom, he's the only magical member of the team.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: According to Bea, his favorite dessert is carrot cake and she brings a (hastily made and unappetizing-looking) cake to his birthday party.
  • Trauma Button: The death of Arrio's mother, Lupita, is a sore spot for him. He can't clearly remember how she died but has nightmares of her being consumed by flames with her face being reduced to nothing more than a skull. Lavani mashes this button while prodding Arrio for information about his mother, which only gets Arrio to scream at her to stop while rushing away to clear his head.
  • Traumatic Superpower Awakening: At the end of Season 1, Arrio spontaneously develops the abiltiy to halt an explosion's activation out of desperation to save Quintin from an exploding oil tanker. Unlike Arrio's normal spells, which make his eyes glow gold, the power of this spell glows blue and the exertion from it knocks Arrio out once Quintin is out of danger.
  • Undying Loyalty:
    • Arrio's official bio calls him a ride-or-die friend with those who've earned his trust. His upbringing has given him a strong protective streak toward Quintin and Jackie, whom he loves like family. This is one of the many things that makes him butt heads with Nathan, who is far more skeptical and critical of the twins.
    • However, Arrio's loyalty to his loved ones can be turned against him. When Jackie is kidnapped and taken hostage by the Magite, Arrio quickly acquiesces to the invader's demands because he can't bear the thought of Jackie getting hurt. Were it not for Jackie's and Lavani's quick thinking, Arrio would be down a Spell Book and a finger.
  • Uniformity Exception: Arrio thinks the rest of the Jupiter-Men's masks are stupid, forgoing a mask in favor of simply relying on the holographic technology in the earbuds of his costume.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: Arrio's magic has the widest range of applications and the highest potential power out of everyone on the entire team. But he's a complete novice at using them, not helped by the fact that all the spells in his book are written in Spanish, his worst subject. The trouble in Episodes 31-33 is only intensified by his attempts to solve the issue by using spells without knowing the specifics of what they do. He's also significantly less creative than Quintin at using his powers, preventing him from coming up with as many uses for his spells.
  • Working-Class Hero: Arrio works part-time jobs as a Burger Fool to help his little sister and widowed dad make ends meet. He mentions using his powers to light his room at night so he doesn't have to switch on the lights and drive up the electric bill. The author also says that Arrio tries to cut Jessie's hair for her instead of going to a hair salon.
  • Wreathed in Flames:
    • Arrio's most basic form of attack involves wrapping his hands in fire and throwing punches to shoot fireballs in the direction he's punching in. He can also use his powers more discreetly by making a Finger Gun gesture to shoot smaller bursts of flame capable of lighting people's shoes on fire and detonating Jackie's Bunny Bombs.
    • "Fuerza de Fuego" (Fire Force) is a spell that generates a bubble of superheated flames large enough to cover a police car. This keeps the people inside the bubble safe by burning anything that attempts to cross it. However, it's not actually solid, meaning that anything that can take the heat can pass right through it. When cast incorrectly, it can instead cause things nearby to burst into flames that cannot be permanently extinguished with water.

    Nathan Mun / Watch-Dog

Click here to see him as Watch-Dog

Jupiter-Man's son and partner as well as the heir to Mun Tech. Nathan has trained all his life to defend Prime from extradimensional forces. He's forced to enlist the Avalon twins as Star Guardians when they accidentally absorb the Star Seed that gives Jupiter-Man his powers.

  • Aloof Archer: Nathan's primarily weapon is a bow that he creates with his equipment as both a means of attack and to use Trick Arrows for effects like crowd control and spraying fire extinguishing fluid. He's also the sternest, least emotionally open member of the team, disciplining the other Jupiter-Men and bossing them around, often with little regard for their input. If he had his way, he'd work alone, but is forced to work with the twins, Arrio, and Lavani in Jupiter-Man's absence.
  • Anger Born of Worry: Over the course of the story, it becomes increasingly clear that Nathan does care for his teammates and tries to look out for their well-being. But the reason he's so harsh and critical of them is because of how dangerous it is to be a Star Guardian, even more so when the others are so out of their depth.
  • Anti-Magic: His father's technology includes handcuffs that disable the powers of those reliant on dimensional energy. This can even prevent the wielders of the Star Seed from using any of their superpowers.
  • Badass Normal: Nathan has no superpowers of his own, instead using a variety of gadgets developed by his father's company, Mun Tech Industries, along with rigorous training and discipline to handle starstruck creatures.
  • Beneath the Mask: Nathan is The Cynic and constantly presents himself as an unflappable Workaholic because he feels he needs to be the authority figure holding the team together. But Nathan is shaken by his father's disappearance and terrified of the idea that Daejung could be dead. When Lavani uses the lair's Mechi tech to confirm whether or not Daejung is alive, Nathan can be seen sweating bullets and gripping his arm tightly as he braces for bad news. He then sags with relief when Lavani confirms that Daejung is alive. Nathan noticeably brightens up after this, wearing a huge smile and even offering to give Lavani a room in his mansion for the duration of her stay when he was threatening to deport her earlier. But when the other Jupiter-Men start teasing him over his hidden video game hobby, Nathan tries and fails to reestablish his all-business attitude.
  • Boring, but Practical: Despite his wealth, Nathan's preferred car is a boring-looking yellow Beetle that Arrio calls "crappy". Despite its unassuming appearance, the glass is bulletproof and it's more than capable of keeping up with other speeding cars in a chase.
  • Bow and Sword in Accord: While fighting the starstruck dog, Nathan switches between slinging energy arrows and cutting off the monster's tail with a beam katana.
  • By-the-Book Cop:
    • He's very insistent about following all the rules. This is played negatively when he insists on deporting Arrio to the Magi Dimension for being a Magite as per the terms of a dimensional treaty despite Arrio being born and raised on Earth/Prime. He only relents after Quintin and Jackie show Arrio into Nathan's home and create a costume for Arrio.
    • Nathan also emphasizes the fact that the Star Guardians' only purpose is to defend Prime from extradimensional threats. He admonishes Quintin for wanting to help stop crime as Jupiter-Man did and only seems to get angrier when Quintin brings it up, as Earth would be in huge danger if Quintin were to somehow get taken out and be unable to detox starstruck creatures. A later episode shows that this behavior is because Nathan is confused and worried by his father's disappearance.
  • Crimefighting with Cash: Nathan gets all of his technology from his father's company, a billion-dollar tech conglomerate that sells everything from cell phones to police uniforms. The stuff in his and Jupiter-Man's lair consists of technology that Jupiter-Man has not released to the public. That said, he doesn't fight crime with his tech, as he's completely devoted to his role of protecting Prime from extradimensional threats, leaving mundane crime to the police. He doesn't change his stance until he realizes that Quintin won't stop trying to help people, compromising with him by offering to go after crime they encounter while on patrol but continuing to let the police do most of the work.
  • The Cynic:
    • As his official bio points out, Nathan tends to see the worst in everything and everyone. He's highly critical of all of his teammates, can't offer a compliment to save his life, and approaches everything with a dour and skeptical mindset. This is in stark contrast to Quintin, who is a Wide-Eyed Idealist and trusting to a fault.
    • This bites him in the rear when he refuses to trust Lavani or even fully hear her side of the story, leading to problems that could have been much more easily fixed had he given her a chance. It's only when the Jupiter-Men are on the verge of being defeated by Nathan's own Attack Drones that he undoes the handcuffs restraining her powers, letting her quickly escort and protect Quintin and Jackie to detox the starstruck.
  • Defrosting Ice King: He's initially stern and strictly professional with the twins, attempting to deprive them of their powers and wipe their memories of having them because he wants to keep them out of danger. But Quintin's constant energy and willingness to trust Nathan after all of this gradually breaks down Nathan's barriers. After Quintin reveals why he admires Jupiter-Man so much, Nathan feels comfortable enough to divulge his Secret Identity to Quintin. That said, this is downplayed by how hard he remains on Quintin and Jackie because of the enormity of the duty they have to handle.
  • Experienced Protagonist: Nathan has been fighting starstruck creatures alongside Jupiter-Man for some time before the events of the story. As a result, he's the most informed and best-trained member of the team, forcing him to take up the role of The Mentor to the others who have no monster-fighting experience.
  • Expy:
    • Nathan's affluent background, no-nonsense demeanor, missing parents, and use of tech and experience as a Badass Normal to compensate for his lack of superpowers makes him a teenaged Batman. This association becomes even stronger as later episodes depict Nathan's Workaholic attitude and constant criticism of his teammates matching more dour depictions of the Caped Crusader.
    • The author has also stated that his design is inspired by Snake Eyes, Green Arrow, and Nightwing. Green Arrow's influence is especially pronounced in Nathan's hood, domino mask, and preference for using a bow and arrow. He's also shown making a baton like Nightwing's to attack what he thinks is an intruder in his home. His ninja-like moves and use of a chokuto is evocative of Snake Eyes.
  • Fiction 500: Nathan is the sole heir to Mun Tech, a billion-dollar multinational tech conglomerate with its hands in everything from laptops to t-shirts. In addition to living in a Big Fancy House with an Elaborate Underground Base, he can pay $6,000 from his own wallet every month to get Binny off his back without batting an eye. He also owns multiple cars, a motorcycle, and a private island without even getting into his dad's finances.
  • Good Is Not Soft: He hacks limbs off the sizeshifting monster with his weapons and kidnaps Quintin and Jackie to coerce them into giving up their powers. But he does these things because the twins are in over their heads and have no real context for what is happening. Without the powers of the Star Seed, he can't pin down mutated creatures and strip them of their powers to subdue them permanently. He later apologizes to Jackie after accidentally ripping out her soul while trying to remove her powers.
  • Grappling-Hook Pistol: Nathan's costume includes a grappling hook in the wrist that lets him scale an office building in moments.
  • Heroic Lineage: Nathan is the latest Star Guardian who protects the world from the ex-Primari who abuse their powers and threaten the stability of Prime, the source of the cosmic energy that gives the Primari their powers. Jupiter-Man, his father, used the power of the Star Seed to remove the cosmic energy from the starstruck to return them to normal. Nathan has been trying to keep subduing starstruck creatures following Jupiter-Man's disappearance, but knows it's useless without the Star Seed.
  • Hero with Bad Publicity: Nathan is doing all he can to suppress starstruck monsters and extradimensional invaders while looking for his missing father. But the lack of information on his father's absence means that the media labels Nathan the primary suspect in Daejung's disappearance. Quintin and Jackie complain about how cruel it is to drag Nathan's name through the mud when his dad is missing, but Bea tells them that it's how the media works.
  • Improperly Paranoid: Nathan is high-strung and on guard at nearly all times. He leg sweeps Quintin and holds him at sword point after Quintin taps him on the shoulder at the mall. In Episode 34, Nathan nearly attacks Mrs. Jones, a social worker, after mistaking her for an intruder and starts Wake Up Fighting when Binny brings him breakfast in bed. While he has reasons to keep his secrets, this behavior is reflective of his Workaholic personality that rubs people the wrong way.
  • Innocently Insensitive: Nathan is completely oblivious to why Quintin and Jackie are upset with him for suggesting they throw Arrio in a holding cell, responding with a Defensive "What?". This is after Nathan accidentally ripped out Jackie's soul the last time he threw someone in one.
  • In the Hood: His costume includes a hood and a domino mask to conceal his identity.
  • I Work Alone: If he had the choice, he'd do everything by himself. But with his father missing and the Star Seed in the hands of the Avalon twins, he has no choice but to work with them and Arrio to subdue starstruck creatures.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: As hard as he is on Quintin and Jackie, Nathan does have a point that they need to get better if they're going to fill Jupiter-Man's shoes. The twins nearly died when they got trapped by a single villain from Magi and were only saved by Arrio's intervention. He also calls Arrio a liability until he can read all the magic in his Spell Book, something that Arrio doesn't deny after the chaos he accidentally caused earlier.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold:
    • Nathan always means well and is genuinely devoted to protecting people from starstruck monsters and invaders from other dimensions. But he's so straight-laced and sworn to duty that he constantly rubs others the wrong way. He forces Quintin and Jackie to train constantly with no regard for their personal lives, chides them for doing a poor job against their first supervillain ever (despite having the job for only two weeks and never facing someone that powerful or skilled before), and insists on deporting Arrio to the Magi Dimension as per a dimensional treaty despite Arrio being born and raised on Prime.
    • He's cross when he finds out that Quintin has been working as a vigilante behind everyone's backs against Nathan's specific warnings not to. But he soon understands that Quintin cannot and will not stop trying to help because of the sheer adoration Quintin has for Jupiter-Man. So Nathan compromises by offering to help him stop crime they encounter during their Star Guardian activities.
  • The Leader: Nathan acts as both the Determined and Levelheaded type of leader. As the most experienced and informed member of the team, Nathan takes a de facto leadership role in managing the Jupiter-Men. But his authority is undercut by his unwillingness to see eye-to-eye with his teammates and take their personal lives and personalities into account. He runs the twins ragged on the regular and is highly critical of any behavior that doesn't let them improve as Star Guardians.
  • Lonely Rich Kid: Nathan is not shown to have a social life outside of the Jupiter-Men. Despite going to high school like the others, Nathan never hangs out with anyone and does not seem to have any responsibilities or side activities besides his involvement in Mun Tech.
  • Missing Mom: According to Mrs. Jones, Nathan's mom is missing but not dead. This proves an issue with Daejung's disappearance, as Nathan is not an adult and needs a legal guardian. His only relatives left are his grandparents in China until "Aunt Binny" enters the picture.
  • Multi-Melee Master: He uses swords and clubs with his Spontaneous Weapon Creation gear and is a skilled hand-to-hand combatant, dominating Jackie in a spar through his mastery of grappling and throwing attacks.
  • Mr. Exposition: As Jupiter-Man's son and partner, Nathan is the most informed about the Star Seed, cosmic energy, and the starstruck phenomenon, explaining them to the twins and thus the reader.
  • Not So Above It All: Despite his insistence on training and being ready for everything, Binny shows that Nathan's fridge is stocked with a ton of soda and junk food, implying that he either likes it or can't be bothered to cook when he doesn't have to. Nathan also has video games in his living room, implying that he does play when he needs to relax, something that the others tease him for. Then there's how much he enjoys kicking the asses of the other Jupiter-Men in a training exercise after getting fed up with their refusal to respect them, especially when he has Arrio pinned and beaten.
  • Rank Scales with Asskicking: Invoked. After becoming frustrated with the Jupiter-Men's refusal to respect his authority and work as a team, he challenges them all to capture him on a private island with the leader position at stake. He quickly proves himself the most capable of them all, quickly defeating Jackie and Arrio by exploiting their weaknesses and taking advantage of Quintin's short-sightedness and naivete to turn the tables on him. It takes the rest of the Jupiter-Men all working together to take Nathan down, with the exercise proving that Nathan is the most qualified to lead.
  • Red Is Heroic: Nathan's uniform is primarily red and black in contrast to Quintin and Jackie's associations with bright green and blue. But he's also Jupiter-Man's son and the one most informed about the threat of starstruck creatures. Lampshaded by Jackie, who calls Nathan "edgy" and "emo" for his choice of clothing and superhero name. That said, he's by far the most abrasive, bossy, and demanding of the Jupiter-Men.
  • Spontaneous Weapon Creation: He can create weapons instantly by slamming his fist against the emblem on his chest. The weapon then slowly materializes in his hands from a kind of black matter with red arrows in the case of a bow and a red blade in the case of a sword. He later specifies that this is a function of his gear, as he does not possess superpowers like the twins or Arrio do. Later episodes show that he wears a bracelet with the same function in case he needs a weapon in his civilian identity.
  • Stern Teacher: As the only one on the team with experience as a Star Guardian, it falls to Nathan to train the others to get them in fighting shape. He's tough on all of his teammates, Quintin and Jackie especially, because of how critical their role is. But this is also Deconstructed, as while Nathan means well, his Workaholic attitude and inability to dole out praise for their efforts results strains his relationship with them. The chaos of Episodes 31-33 happens because the other Jupiter-Men don't want to look to him for guidance unless they have to because they know he'll chew them out.
  • Team Dad: Nathan is the sternest and most disciplined member of the team, constantly reminding others to train and stay on task. While the others chafe under his Workaholic demands, it's clear that he almost always has a point when it comes to taking the role of a Star Guardian seriously. The author straight-up calls Nathan this trope in the afterword of Episode 40.
  • The Team Normal: He's the only non-superpowered member of the Jupiter-Men. He was supposed to inherit the Star Seed from his father, but it wound up in the hands of the Avalon twins instead. That said, he's perhaps the most consistently effective member of the team at fighting starstruck creatures because of his rigorous training and experience that the others don't have.
  • Trick Arrow: In addition to his energy arrows, Nathan has arrows filled with fire extinguishing fluid to quickly put out any fires in his vicinity and arrows that create forcefields to corral areas.
  • Wake Up Fighting: Nathan instinctively throws a palm strike when he notices something looming over him while he's asleep. This winds up being a breakfast tray held by Binny and he barely has enough time to catch everything.
  • Weak, but Skilled: Unlike the twins, Nathan has no superpowers and relies entirely on his technology and rigorous training. He's the only member of the team with any superhero expertise before the events of the story, making him the de facto leader and the one everyone looks to for guidance. This is perhaps best demonstrated in Episode 33, where his measured reason and experience let him instruct the team on how to dismantle the chaos they accidentally caused. He also dominates Jackie in a spar despite her Super-Strength because he's that much more skilled than her.
  • Wise Beyond Their Years: Nathan is 17 but pays his bills and does his taxes on his own. This is on top of shouldering a responsibility to protect the planet from extradimensional threats. Given his wealth outside of his father's fortune, it's implied that he has a hand in Mun Tech's day-to-day business and would be next in line to become CEO in Daejung's absence were Nathan of age. He's frustrated by the fact that he's not a legal adult yet and has to deal with the restrictions of being a minor despite doing so many adult things already.
  • Workaholic: Nathan never seems to not be thinking of his duties as a Star Guardian and expects others to do the same, demanding Quintin and Jackie continue training even when they're completely wiped and in need of rest. The mere idea of doing nothing and not improving seems to anger him. When Quintin invites him to hang out, Nathan rebuffs him and tells Quintin that he has time to train if he has time to relax.
Arrio: [while getting nagged by Nathan] It's called a break, my dude.
Jackie: [weary and dejected] Nathan doesn't believe in breaks.
  • Younger Than They Look: He's only a few years older than the twins at seventeen, but his Tall, Dark, and Handsome physique and the seriousness with which he carries himself make him seem older. Both Quintin and Jackie are surprised to learn that he's a teenager after everything.

    Lavani / Galaxy Girl
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lavani.PNG
Click here to see her as Galaxy Girl

A Mechalyte traveler from another dimension and an acquaintance of Jupiter-Man. She meets the team when she comes to Quintin's aid while he's chasing down a member of the Titans.

  • The Atoner: Lavani says that the Mechi are ashamed of their part in the Rochambeau War that caused immense damage to Prime and led to the creation of the starstruck, calling the starstuck living evidence of their sins.
  • Birds of a Feather: As a Super Cop who enjoys order and organization, Lavani gets along swimmingly with Nathan after their initially rough first impression. This is most noticeable in the final episodes of Season 1, as she is the only member of the Jupiter-Men who doesn't question his leadership or vie for the position of leader.
  • Destructive Savior: When she realizes that the heroes' base is under attack from a Starstruck, she starts shooting a Hand Blast at each of the electricity-draining monsters. Unfortunately, these blasts damage the base too in order to destroy the invisible monsters, which gets Nathan on her case because it looks like she's sabotaging the base on purpose.
  • Fantastic Racism: Lavani doesn't say anything mean to Arrio, but seeing his magical powers makes her uneasy because her people and the Magite waged a nearly earth-shattering war in ages past. She's also visibly angered and disgusted when Jackie asks if Lavani has any relation to the Magite. Even when Nathan tells her to drop the subject of Arrio's parentage and clearance to be on Prime, she continues to push the issue by interrogating Arrio while having him and Jackie tour her around the city. Even after she has a Jerkass Realization, she concludes that Arrio is good because he never learned the "savage" teachings of the Magite.
Lavani: The Magite are- Ugh! Nothing like us!
  • Finger Gun: Lavani can shoot a Hand Blast from her pointer finger by making a finger gun motion, shooting pink lasers that fry bits of a Starstruck littering the base.
  • Higher-Tech Species:
    • Lavani's people, the Mechalytes, have far more advanced technology than anything found on Prime. Her ability to create portals and use Hand Blasts is derived from their biotechnology. She's also visibly disgusted by the Magite, whose magic defies the Mechalytes' science and understanding of the natural world. In fact, it's implied that Mun Tech's leading technologies are at least partially derived from Mechi science, as Daejung has been working with them on secret projects for some time.
    • In her cover identity on Prime, Lavani visits Nathan's school and attends it as a transfer student. She finds it positively quaint that students on Prime sit at "desks" while using "pencil and paper". When Nathan remarks that Gemini Academy is for "advanced" students, she remarks that Prime is doing the best it can even without any enhancement pods.
  • Humans Through Alien Eyes: While she's a Human Subspecies and not an alien, she's clearly uncomfortable with aspects of Prime culture. Her initially meeting with Quintin is awkward and she has No Sense of Personal Space. She's also visibly confused by the smoothies Arrio makes, shaking her cup with a perplexed expression.
  • Human Subspecies: She's a Mechalyte, a subspecies of Primari with the power to produce portals at will thanks to advanced biotechnology. This makes her "human" but not the same as a regular Primari like Nathan. While she's largely human-like in appearance, she has long, pointed ears with purplish ends. Other art shows that the ends of her hands are the same shade of purple.
  • Innocently Insensitive:
    • Lavani prods Arrio for information about his mother out of a misguided belief that he's a Magite sleeper agent, not realizing that Lupita is long gone and that her death as a Trauma Button for him.
    • Played for Laughs in a mini posted on the author's Twitter account. After becoming accustomed to Arrio's tendency to be The Nicknamer, she mistakes him calling Nathan "jerk" as an Affectionate Nickname. Nathan is alarmed when she cheerfully greets him with a "Good morning, jerk!" the day after.
  • Jerkass Realization: Lavani is prejudiced against Arrio for being half-Magite, not believing him about being born and raised on Prime. After spending an entire day needling him with questions while trying to "expose" his true allegiances, she's dumbstruck when he offers his Spell Book, Ring of Power, and his finger in exchange for Jackie's safety without hesitation.
  • Ms. Exposition: Lavani provides a wealth of information that Nathan doesn't provide about the Rochambeau War that led to Mother Nature creating the Star Seed, namely that two primary factions, the Mechi and the Magite, were responsible for the bulk of the conflict.
  • No Sense of Personal Space: Lavani quickly invades Quintin's personal space upon their first meeting, getting really close and touching Quintin's face in confusion. He's clearly stiff and uncomfortable about this, but she doesn't stop until Nathan tackles her to the floor.
  • Sarcasm-Blind: Arrio sarcastically calls her a "princess" because of her prim and proper attitude. Lavani is flattered and says she isn't one despite graduating at the top of her class.
  • See-Thru Specs: Lavani's goggles let her see the starstruck that is invisible unless it's exposed to a certain frequency of light while it's attacking Nathan's base.
  • Skilled, but Naive: Lavani is highly intelligent, great with technology, and an experienced combatant. However, she's rather naive about what it's like to be on Prime and comes with her own set of prejudices and biases, such as distrusting Arrio from the outset solely because of his heritage. She also doesn't have a perfect grasp of English or Prime's native fauna.
  • Super Cop: Lavani claims to be a member of an interdimensional police force that Nathan has never heard of. She supports her argument by presenting a special anchor designed by Daejung himself as proof of her authorization to be on Prime. She also has knowledge of numerous classified projects she isn't comfortable sharing even with Nathan, such as Project Paradigm, a collaboration between Daejung and the Mechi designed to heal the damage to Prime caused by the Rochambeau War.
  • Super-Speed Reading: The diamond-shaped tattoo on Lavani's head allows her to quickly scan and memorize the entirety of a book in moments. She reads through a book on English idioms and phrases this way and thanks Jackie for getting it for her. That said, it still doesn't completely bring Lavani up to speed on Primari phrasing.
  • Team Mom: Although cultural differences and her personal predjudices can make this difficult, Lavani is naturally loving and supportive of her friends. Her official profile calls her "maternal" and concept art shows her hugging Quintin
  • Thinking Up Portals: Lavani can produce portals wherever she wants to travel between two points nigh-instantly. In addition to the obvious use of it as transportation, she has also used this offensively and defensively, opening portals to transport enemies into hazards and transporting dangerous objects like bombs away from herself or others. However, she notes that despite Mechi's advances in biotechnology to create these portals, they pale in comparison to a true Primari portal and she can't cross dimensions on her own.
  • Token Non-Human: Human Subspecies, but Lavani is the only member of the team who is not native to Prime.

Family Members

    Beatrice "Bea" Avalon
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bea_avalon_4.PNG

The Avalon twins' mother and a member of the Jupiter City Police Department. She is loving but firm toward her children, but her line of work means that she's often away on patrol.

  • Anger Born of Worry: After Bea catches Quintin when he slips from a stepladder, she drags him home and gives him an earful before looking over him in a frantic panic to make sure he's unhurt. She then grounds him for disobeying her, for disobeying the law, and for getting an F on his social studies project. When she recognizes his handwriting as the one the Jupiter-Men were leaving on their sticky note Calling Cards, she immediately confronts Quintin about whether or not he's involved with the city's new vigilantes.
  • Art Evolution: Concept art for Bea on the author's DeviantArt page depicts her with Boyish Short Hair compared to the more feminine Tomboyish Ponytail she has in the final comic.
  • By-the-Book Cop: While she appreciates the Jupiter-Men's (or rather Gusher's) help in stopping crime, she's still opposed to vigilantes and opens an investigation into them.
  • Fair Cop: For an overworked cop raising two children on her own, Bea is easy on the eyes between her sharp looks and hourglass figure.
  • Fantasy-Forbidding Father: Gender-inverted. Bea specifically bars Quintin from viewing the Polaris website, which has users catalog weird phenomena around Jupiter City, especially sightings of Jupiter-Man. She then says he's not allowed to use his camera after she literally catches him trespassing on a crime scene.
  • Honorary Aunt: Arrio's closeness to Bea's children makes them almost like siblings to him. He calls her "Aunt Bee" out of respect for her and the feeling is mutual, with Bea fretting over him after he was caught in the monster attack at the mall.
  • Lethal Chef: She brings carrot cake to Arrio's birthday party. Said cake is unevenly iced, has raw carrots sticking out of it, and carrot skin shavings all around it as sprinkles. Arrio is visibly unnerved by it and his dad assures him that he has a store-bought cake in the fridge. According to the author, Bea has always struggled to cook well, which is likely why she's often shown buying takeout for the twins.
  • Like Father, Like Son: Beatrice is a devoted By-the-Book Cop who takes down crooks and robbers while at work. Her son Quintin has similar Chronic Hero Syndrome and fights crime as a vigilante while defending the world from extradimensional threats as a Star Guardian. Like her daughter Jackie, Beatrice is relatively down-to-earth about her priorities and is exasperated with Quintin's energy and obsession with Jupiter-Man. Beatrice has a twin sibling, Atticus, as alluded to in background photos.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Quintin and Jackie keep their mom in the dark about their superhero activities because of how protective she is. Both twins know that Bea would lose it if she ever finds out what they're doing.
  • My Beloved Smother: At her worst, Bea can be this toward Quintin. When he gets sick, she insists on spending the whole day trying to nurse him back to health, to the point of threatening to send him to a doctor if he refuses. She constantly pesters him to eat when he's lost his appetite due to her Lethal Chef tendencies. Bea continues to bother him about tea when he just wants to go to sleep.
  • Parental Obliviousness: Downplayed. She's aware that Quintin is increasingly haggard and is seriously worried about him. But the idea that he's fighting crime at night doesn't occur to her because she assumes he's doing normal teenager things like staying up too late playing video games. This goes out the window when she finds his sticky notes and realizes that his handwriting matches the notes found at the scenes where the Jupiter-Men intervened. Nathan intervenes as Quintin's "tutor" to cover for him with a less fantastical explanation that Bea is more willing to accept. But given the holes in Nathan's explanation, she only failed to uncover Quintin's Secret Identity because she's is unwilling to accept the idea that her child could be putting himself in mortal danger.
  • Parental Favoritism:
    • Downplayed. Bea loves both of her children, but since she sees Jackie as the "responsible" sibling in the twins' Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling dynamic, there's a clear difference in how Bea treats them. Bea tends to coddle Quintin and becomes furious with him if he's in any danger at all. She also expects Jackie to be Quintin's minder while disregarding Jackie's own desire to attend Rick's party. This implies that Jackie gets less attention because Bea trusts her more, whereas Bea is always worried that Quintin will get himself hurt.
    • When Quintin gets sick, Bea spends the entire day trying to nurse him back to health and doesn't notice when Jackie leaves. Meanwhile, Jackie is allowed to stay home alone when she's sick, something Quintin brings up. After sneaking out of the house, Bea admits that she didn't even notice that Jackie was gone and welcomes her home. Judging by Jackie's reaction, this is not an uncommon occurrence.
  • Parents as People:
    • Quintin and Jackie's father is nowhere to be seen, leaving Bea to take care of her two kids alone. She loves, dotes upon, and frets over her children and is paid well enough as a police officer to own a spacious home. But she's continuously exasperated by Quintin's antics and is constantly away due to the nature of her work. This leaves the twins to their own devices much of the time, which Quintin exploits to sneak out of the house repeatedly. This strains Quintin's relationship with her, as he feels he can't open up to her about why he's so interested in Jupiter-Man and she can't wrap her head around his obsession.
Bea: The Lord is testing me... and I'm failing.
    • She also tends to give Quintin a lot more attention because of how worried she is about him getting hurt, to the point of becoming My Beloved Smother when Quintin gets sick. This difference in attention leaves Jackie feeling neglected at times. Bea also expects Jackie to be Quintin's minder whenever Bea is at work, disregarding Jackie's desires like wanting to go party.
  • Tomboyish Ponytail: She wears her hair like this as a constantly busy cop. But while she can be gruff and no-nonsense with her children, she's also deeply maternal and worries for them when it looks like they could've been hurt.
  • Youthful Freckles: Inverted. Bea has freckles despite her largely serious demeanor in contrast to her freckleless and more irresponsible children.

    Mr. McKay

Arrio and Jessie's dad, who's been raising them alone ever since his wife passed away.

  • Locked Out of the Loop: He's completely unaware of Arrio's new magical powers or that his wife was an extradimensional visitor from the Magi Dimension.
  • Parents as People: He was apparently out of touch with his son for years, enough for Arrio to join a gang and rack up enough of a record for Mr. Khan to be terrified of Arrio and file a restraining order. Arrio says his dad is getting better more recently and it's clear that Mr. McKay cares deeply for both his children.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: He's an older, chubbier version of his son Arrio with paler skin and green eyes. His daughter Jessie has the same eye color as him.

    Jessie McKay
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jessie_mckay.PNG

Arrio's younger sister, who has little patience and a lot of energy.

  • Affectionate Nickname: Arrio calls her "Jess" and "squirt" at home.
  • Annoying Younger Sibling: Downplayed. Jessie clearly adores her brother and loves to hang out with him, but her constant energy and impatience on account of her age means that she rarely reads the room. She pesters him to play with her even when he's not in the mood and glomps him first thing in the morning.
  • Childish Tooth Gap: She's a bubbly, impatient little girl with a missing front tooth that emphasizes her youthful immaturity.
  • Malaproper: Jessie congratulates Arrio on his "sixtieth" birthday when it's his sixteenth birthday.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: According to the author, Jessie strongly resembles her mother Lupita but with messier hair and a missing front tooth.

    Lupita McKay

Arrio's and Jessie's Missing Mom. She passed away sometime before the events of the story.

  • Distinctive Appearances: Arrio's remembers her having a voluminous mane of dark brown hair, a trait only shared with her daughter Jessie.
  • The Faceless: Her face is yet to be seen, as she's long gone and only depicted through memories and dreams. When Arrio dreams about her, the viewer only gets to see the back of her head until she turns around and is engulfed in flames, leaving only her skull where her face should be.
  • Honorary Aunt: Just as Arrio and Bea are close enough for him to call her "Aunt Bee", Quintin and Jackie used to call Lupita "Aunt Lupita".
  • Missing Mom: Passing dialogue between Arrio and Bea implies that Arrio's mom passed away and his closeness to Bea and the twins is a way of overcompensating for the lack of a maternal figure in his life.
  • Superpowerful Genetics: She passed her ability to use magic onto Arrio, allowing him to use her Spell Book and Ring of Power on his sixteenth birthday when they're given to him as a present.
  • Take Up My Sword: She leaves her Spell Book and Ring of Power behind for her husband to give to Arrio on his sixteenth birthday. This unfortunately marks him as a target to other Magite.

    Daejung Mun / Jupiter-Man
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/daejung_mun_jupiter_men.PNG

Jupiter City's first superhero and the stuff of many rumors and urban legends. He is secretly the Star Guardian who defended the dimensions from starstruck monsters with the power of the Star Seed. But he mysteriously vanished one day and his powers passed onto Quintin and Jackie when they stumble upon the Star Seed at a construction site.

  • The Ace: Daejung is the billionaire CEO of one of the largest and most advanced tech companies in the world. By all indications he was highly popular and his disappearance is a cause for major concern in the media. He also moonlights as the Star Guardian defending Earth from extradimensional threats almost single-handedly, becoming a local legend christened "Jupiter-Man".
  • Action Dad: Daejung was the guardian of Prime against exterterrestrial invasions as well as choosing to become a crime-fighting vigilante of his own accord. He managed to balance his duties and his day job as a tech CEO while raising Nathan.
  • All-Encompassing Mantle: Jupiter-Man wears an enormously long and flowing cape that sparkles like stars in the night sky. Quintin's narration depicts it as being long enough to be used as restraints for criminals.
  • All Your Powers Combined: Jupiter-Man was the previous user of the Star Seed and could tap into powers from any number of dimensions compared to the more niche abilities the twins possess. According to the author, he had literally every power from every dimension, including flight, teleportation, magic, Quintin's slime powers, and Jackie's Super-Strength and Super-Toughness. This makes the nature of his disappearance strange because he should be too formidable for any single foe to beat alone.
  • Ambiguous Situation: The nature of his disappearance is the story's greatest mystery. Despite being his son and closest partner, Nathan has no idea why Daejung suddenly vanished into thin air. According to the Magite, the fact that Quintin and Jackie have the Star Seed means that Jupiter-Man either gave it up willingly or is dead. Nathan and Quintin both agree that Daejung would never abandon the people of Jupiter City, but also don't want to believe the idea that Daejung could be dead. In Episode 49, Lavani is able to use the Mechi tech in his lair to confirm that Daejung is still alive, but that still leaves the question of where he is and why he hasn't returned home.
  • The Cape: Aside from his primary duty of stopping starstruck monsters, Jupiter-Man has a reputation for stopping evildoers and protecting the innocent as a paragon of justice. Nathan and Quintin both agree that Daejung would never abandon Jupiter City, which begs the question of his disappearance and why he gave up the Star Seed.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: Stopping mundane crime is outside of the purview of the Star Guardian. Daejung chose to become a crime-fighting vigilante because he couldn't abandon someone in need of help.
  • Crimefighting with Cash: Daejung is a billionaire tech CEO and he presumably used that money to finance the construction of his Elaborate Underground Base and the various gadgets that Nathan uses. Lavani reveals that he's been in contact with the Mechalytes for years, implying that at least some of his tech is of Mechi design.
  • Disappeared Dad: Jupiter-Man vanishes inexplicably without warning, with the Star Seed appearing at a construction site before being absorbed by the Avalon twins. His absence leaves Nathan struggling to keep up with his role as a Star Guardian until he discovers that Quintin and Jackie have Jupiter-Man's powers.
  • The Ghost: The story begins with Jupiter-Man vanishing without warning, only appearing in flashbacks and in pictures. Everything the reader knows about him is from someone else's perspective.
  • Good Parents: Nathan has nothing but good things to say about Daejung and it's clear that he has many fond memories of him. Given Nathan's natural outlook as The Cynic, this speaks volumes about how close he was to his father.
  • Healing Hands: Quintin describes having vertigo and everything looking and feeling hazy after being struck by a truck when he was younger, implying that he suffered brain damage. But Jupiter-Man arrived and told him that everything was going to be okay while taking Quintin's hand before everything slowly cleared up. This healing power has the side effect of granting Quintin a powerful Photographic Memory, which lets him remember that it was Jupiter-Man who saved him and inspired him to follow the hero's example.
  • In the Hood: Jupiter-Man's face has never been seen by the public because it's always hidden in a hood and his All-Encompassing Mantle.
  • Light Is Good: As Jupiter-Man, Daejung is strongly associated with light, between his white costume and a cape that glitters like stars. Even his name means "The Shining One" in Korean. He's also The Cape wielding the Star Seed to protect people as the Star Guardian and as a crime-fighting vigilante.
  • Like Father, Unlike Son: Daejung and Nathan share the same passionate desire to protect Prime as Star Guardians and are very close. But while Daejung is The Cape with Chronic Hero Syndrome and quite popular at his own company, Nathan is The Cynic who believes that mundane crime should be left to the police. Nathan struggles to lead the Jupiter-Men due to his inability to open up to others and his tendency to tear into them for any of their mistakes. Unbeknownst to Nathan, Daejung has been working with Mechi for some time, so much so that Lavani is aware of Daejung's identity and secret projects he's been developing.
  • Meaningful Name: Daejung's name means "The Great One" or "The Shining One" in Korean, reflecting his role as The Cape to Jupiter City and all of Prime as the Star Guardian.
  • The Paragon: He's Jupiter City's first-ever superhero and a force for good who defended Prime from extradimensional threats while also finding time to stop mundane crime. Nathan's and Quintin's impressions of Daejung characterize the man as kind and altruistic, the type of person who wouldn't abandon people when they needed him. This is also Deconstructed, as Daejung's example inspires Quintin to try and follow in his footsteps, only for it to backfire spectacularly as Quintin has neither the experience, the breadth of powers, nor the resources to be an effective Triple Shifter.
  • Shrouded in Myth: Jupiter-Man's story has been told for generations since the founding of the city. His existence in the present is acknowledged and everyone knows he's real, but no one has caught more than a brief glimpse of him from afar. He's said to be able to leap between buildings and across seas and mountaintops at will. He fights crime and protects the helpless as a modern-day vigilante. But no one knows who he is, where he comes from, or why he does what he does. Quintin's social studies project on him gets dismissed as mere mythology rather than fact, especially once he starts shouting about Jupiter-Man having superpowers.
  • Star-Spangled Spandex: According to Quintin, Jupiter-Man's cape glitters like the stars in the night sky.
  • Triple Shifter: Prior to his disappearance, Daejung somehow found the time to be a billionaire CEO, the Star Guardian defending Prime from extradimensional threats, a crime-fighting vigilante, and a loving father to Nathan. He accomplishes this so well that Quintin's attempts to emulate him backfire as he's not powerful or experienced enough to juggle the responsibilities that Daejung did alone.
  • Workaholic: Downplayed. Daejung never took a vacation even while juggling his responsibilities as a billionaire CEO and the Star Guardian. Despite this, Nathan has fond memories of him and it's clear they spent a lot of time together.

    Binny Sun
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/binny_sun_jupiter_men.PNG

Nathan's estranged aunt. She becomes Nathan's interim legal guardian following the disappearance of his father despite Nathan never meeting or hearing of her before.

  • Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: Binny can't help but upload all of her and Nathan's activities to social media when she becomes his interim legal guardian. Everything is a spectacle to her and she even follows him into school despite it being trespassing. Nathan is annoyed and embarrassed by all of this to the point of snapping his pen in half from frustration. He eventually convinces her to do nothing but lounge around his house all day in exchange for getting $6,000 every month from his bank account to do with as she pleases.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: She prevents the image of a doting, loving aunt to Mrs. Jones, the social worker responsible for making sure that Nathan has a guardian. In truth, she couldn't care less about Nathan aside from his access to his father's billion-dollar fortune. Once Nathan confronts her, she freely admits that she's a Gold Digger out to take over Nathan's finances.
  • Child Hater: Beneath her cheery veneer is a woman only interested in partying and hates children, calling them a "blight on the world". If anything, she's relieved when Nathan bribes her to stay out of his life and just curls up on the couch to watch TV.
  • Con Man: She tries to schmooze her way into becoming Nathan's guardian to obtain control of his finances. While he sees right through her, social services did not and placed her as his interim guardian in the first place.
  • Gold Digger: She tries to act all chummy with Nathan to try to get on his good side and become his guardian so she can take over his finances. But it's blatantly clear to him that her "nice" behavior is all an act and she admits to his face that she simply won't leave while there's money on the table. Since he can't get rid of her, he instead bribes her by letting her live in his penthouse rent-free and getting a $6,000 monthly allowance from his bank account in exchange for not touching his finances, not inviting anyone over, and staying out of his hair.
  • Hard-Drinking Party Girl: Her true personality. She has no interest in being Nathan's legal guardian aside from the opportunity to live it up in a penthouse. The minute she gets bribed to stay out of his life she starts curling up on the couch eating chips while complaining that there are no drinks in the fridge that aren't "child-friendly".
  • Lazy Bum: When relieved of their duties as a guardian, Binny is content to curl up on the couch and watch TV while digging into junk food, making no overtures at even caring for Nathan or looking for any kind of employment.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Daejung kept his activities as the Star Guardian exclusive to his side of the family, so Binny has no idea that Nathan's "man cave" is actually his superhero lair.
  • Long-Lost Relative: She claims to be Nathan's aunt on his mother's side despite him never meeting or even hearing about Binny's existence. Given her personality, it's little wonder that his parents never introduced him to her.
  • Manchild: For a grown woman who is supposed to be acting as a legal guardian to a seventeen-year-old, she acts like a Phoneaholic Teenager. She's constantly uploading her activities to social media and even follows Nathan to school so she can brag about being his guardian.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Downplayed. Although she's Nathan's aunt, she has striking magenta eyes. This indicates that she's up to no good and is only trying to use Nathan for his father's fortune. But she's also remarkably lazy. Her ambitions begin and end with being able to lounge around and do what she pleases, making her more of an enduring annoyance than a true threat to Nathan's well-being. The author's comments reveal that her natural eye color is the same as Nathan's, but she wears pink contacts to stand out.

Villains

    The Starstruck
When confluences of cosmic energy gather in high concentrations, it can shoot out from the sky like a bolt of lightning. These bursts of cosmic energy will violently mutate any organism that comes in contact with it, turning it into a "starstruck" monster. These monsters can only be subdued by removing the cosmic energy inside them with the Star Seed, meaning that only the Star Guardian can defeat them permanently.
  • Bizarre Alien Biology: Starstruck creatures move and act like giant, ravenous predators. But their bodies are filled with crystal geode-like structures ending in a Toxic Star where the cosmic energy is concentrated somewhere on their bodies. They shed black cosmic goo instead of blood when injured and demonstrate supernatural abilities beyond conventional biology, such as a Man-Eating Plant that can turn its petals into Attack Drones.
  • Forced Transformation: Animals and plants that come into contact with cosmic energy from other dimensions are "starstruck", mutating them into monsters with superhuman abilities. They then go on a rampage, attacking anything and everything in sight. Only the wielder of the Star Seed can "detox" these creatures by draining the cosmic energy from the "Toxic Star" located on the monster's body, returning them to their original state.
  • Healing Factor: Nathan slices the tail off the size-shifting lizard monster with his sword, only for the monster to shoot goo from its severed tail to reattach it as if it never happened
  • Killer Rabbit: The rabbit-shaped starstruck that Jackie tries to keep as a pet seems harmless enough at first. But it soon multiplies rapidly when given something it can consume, like say, a costume made of fabric. If the Jupiter-Men had delayed any longer, the rabbit monster and it clones would likely have started eating everything they could get their mouths around. To make matters worse, Arrio accidentally lights them all on fire while trying to contain them, causing the bunnies to ignite everything they touch.
  • Man-Eating Plant: The second Star-Struck creature the heroes face is a mutated flower that has gained the ability to turn its roots into Vine Tentacles and its petals into flying bee-like creatures who can encase anyone they "sting" in a layer of crystal. This plant then drags its victims into its maw to be digested. Worse still, the Toxic Star that the twins need to detox is inside its digestive system.
  • Non-Malicious Monster: The first starstruck creature encountered in the story is a stray dog who had the misfortune of being hit with cosmic energy. After being transformed into a Sizeshifter lizard creature, the monster is scared and lashes out at Nathan chasing and attacking it. The monster is initially friendly to Quintin and Jackie, even licking them. But its appearance and the grossness of its lizard-like tongue freaks the twins out, which in turn scares the monster into attacking them. Once the twins detox it, the dog walks away, happy to be freed of its transformation.
  • No Ontological Inertia: The bunny monster's copies all vanish once the original is detoxed, saving the rest of Jupiter City from the ravenous, burning beasts.
  • Sizeshifter: The starstruck monster chasing Quintin and Jackie in the opening scene is the size of a bus. Later scenes show that it has the ability to shrink down to a size that lets them fit through the flaps of a grate. It's the size of a Komodo dragon when the twins encounter the monster for the first time.
  • Vine Tentacles: In addition to its petal bee Attack Drones, the starstruck Man-Eating Plant can use its roots as tentacles to lash at and entangle its foes.

    The Magite
A currently unnamed Fire Magite, who travelled to Earth to steal Arrio's spellbook and ring.
  • Flaming Hair: When he gets serious, his ponytail catches fire.
  • Playing with Fire: As a Magite he's aligned with the fire element, so all of his spells involve flame in some way.
  • Vancian Magic: He needs pre-made spell gems to cast his spells, and they're apparently expensive, with his desire to steal Arrio's spellbook fueled by wishing to use it to bypass this limitation.

    The Titans

The major criminal power in Jupiter City. They're not doing as well recently after the defeat and arrest of their leader Kronos, but events in the comic indicate that they're making a comeback...

  • Tattooed Crook: Their members seem to like tattooing their stylized "T" symbol on their bodies.

Others

    Rick Chang

A Jerk Jock who plays rugby and bullies younger, smaller students into doing his homework for him. He's (apparently) popular with the girls but only seems to have eyes for Jackie.

  • Abhorrent Admirer: He's this for Jackie as a dumb, boorish Jerk Jock who's head-over-heels for her but clearly can't take a hint that she's not interested.
  • All Love Is Unrequited: Rick Chan has a clear crush on Jackie and he invites her to his party without a second thought. While Jackie is down to party, it's clear in Episode 8 that the feeling isn't mutual and she'd rather shove him onto resident Alpha Bitch Victoria.
  • Barbaric Bully: Rick abuses his stature to bully younger students into doing his bidding, never getting punished for his actions thanks to his influential mother. He's quick to resort to violence over minor slights and feels entitled to get whatever he wants.
  • Berserk Button: He gets pissed when his hair gets messed up by Quintin throwing a book at him, complaining about how long it takes to get it styled just right.
  • Chick Magnet: According to Arrio, Rick Chang has most of the female student body at Jupiter high fawning over him, letting Rick have his pick of hte litter. But Jackie isn't interested and Rick wants to know why she's immune to his charms.
  • Dumb Jock: Rick attempts to bribe Arrio into helping him get on Jackie's good side by promising to have Arrio's homework done for a month. Arrio replies that if he wanted to fail he'd have his baby sister do his homework, implying that Rick's grades are even worse than Arrio's.
  • Informed Attribute: According to Arrio, Rick is popular enough at Jupiter High to get with any girl he wants. But the only two girls who are shown giving their opinions on him, the equally popular Jackie and Victoria, treat him with contempt and each tries to shove him on the other.
  • Jerk Jock: Rick Chang is a highly popular jock and member of the rugby team who abuses his strength and athleticism to force smaller, weaker kids to do his homework for him. He's also an entitled prick who can't understand why Jackie wouldn't be interested in him and attempts to coerce Arrio into helping him get into her good graces. When Arrio fights back, Rick abuses his mom's prestige to walk away scot-free while Arrio is punished for defending himself.
  • Not Good with Rejection: Rick can't understand why Jackie isn't interested in him at all and tries to bribe Arrio into getting into her good graces. Arrio tells him that it's her choice and that Rick should respect that. Rick responds by trying to punch Arrio, who retaliates by giving Rick a black eye.
  • Screw the Rules, I Have Connections!: Rick picks a fight with Arrio, who defends himself and gives Rick a black eye. Arrio is given three weeks detention for the Crime of Self-Defense on account of it being his birthday (his principal says he would've expelled him any other day). Meanwhile, Rick gets to walk away scot-free on the condition that he doesn't breathe a word of this to his mother. This implies that Rick's mom is powerful and influential enough that Jupiter High's staff lets him get away with a lot of things out of fear of drawing her ire.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: He's "built like a house" and bullies smaller, younger students with muscles built by playing rugby. But he tries to pick a fight with Arrio, an ex-gang member, who dodges Rick's haphazard punch before giving Rick a black eye.

    Victoria

The leader of "the Doll Set", a group of the prettiest and most fashionable girls at Jupiter High. She's keen on maintaining her position at the top of the social hierarchy, bringing her into conflict with Jackie, her rival.

  • Alpha Bitch: Victoria leads "the Doll Set", a Girl Posse of the most fashionable and beautiful girls at Jupiter High. She's all smiles to her adoring fans but is quick to trade barbs with Jackie, who is The Rival to Victoria's position at the top of the social hierarchy.
  • Idle Rich: She doesn't participate in cheerleading like her friends because she doesn't care for it.
  • Rich Bitch: Her mother is a high-level member of the billion-dollar tech conglomerate Mun Tech who is tapped to serve as Daejung's interim replacement following his disappearance. This, combined with Victoria's trendy clothes and snobbish demeanor, all point to her being this. The author's comments reveal that she could've gone to Gemini Academy, the same school Nathan attends, but chose to attend Jupiter High to be with her friend Mari.

    Pepper

The shyest and least mature member of the Doll Set. Pepper is unsure of herself and is happy when she doesn't feel like she's messing everything up. Also harbors a crush on Quintin.

  • All Love Is Unrequited: Victoria's much more demure Beta Bitch, Pepper, clearly has a thing for Quintin, stammering and getting tongue-tied while triyng to talk to him and Cannot Spit It Out. Quintin is oblivious to this and only watches in confusion as Pepper gets called away by Victoria.
  • Cannot Spit It Out: Victoria's Beta Bitch Pepper is shy and demure. She clearly has a crush on Quintin but gets tongue-tied trying to make small talk with him.
  • Fiery Redhead: Inverted. Pepper has fiery red hair akin to the mascot for Wendy's, but is the most soft-spoken, demure, and nicest of the Doll Set. She has a crush on Quintin and stammers while trying to say hello to him.
  • Youthful Freckles: Pepper is a member of the Doll Set, a Girl Posse of the most beautiful girls at Jupiter High. While Victoria and Mai have unblemished skin and flaunt their looks and social status, Pepper is freckled and is considerably shyer and less confident. She Cannot Spit It Out to Quintin and stammers in his presence, marking her as less mature than her friends.
