Kara

"Whether they want to or not, the world will soon know the terror of Kara.."

A mysterious organization whose motives are largely unknown but carry sinister intent for the world at large.

The group is made up of "Inners" and "Outers", with each of the Inners being in charge of a region. Each Inner bear a facial tattoo of a Roman numeral and shroud themselves with black cloaks. Outers are people who assist Kara from the outside to complete missions ordered by the Inners.

The organization has accumulated a great deal of wealth and, in keeping with the times, makes use of Scientific Ninja Tools to combat their foes.

    As A Whole
  • Ax-Crazy: Several members are not quite in their right mind. Delta, Deepa and Garo take a lot of pleasure from instilling pain into others.
  • Black Cloak: Standard uniform for the Inners, though what they wear underneath said cloak varies from person to person.
  • Canon Foreigner: Deepa and Ouga are Inners that exist only in the anime, filling in the empty 7th and 8th positions respectively.
  • The Conspiracy: An organization of shadowy figures with vast resources who are very good at covering their tracks.
  • Cyborg: Many of their members demonstrate cybernetic augmentations, Inner and Outer alike, with their bodies being implanted and modified with Scientific Ninja Tools. These generally make them a very different kind of problem than what ninja are traditionally used to dealing with.
  • Contrasting Sequel Antagonist:
    • Akatsuki was made up partly of Anti Villains with redeeming qualities, who started out as good people until the Crapsack World they lived in turned them into Well Intentioned Extremists, and the main goal of their leaders was to repair whatever was wrong with the Ninja World on their views. They also tended to get along with each other, at worst being Vitriolic Best Buds. Now meet Kara, which is made up of apathetic people who barely stand each other and suffer from Chronic Backstabbing Disorder. Their reasons for staying together, while mainly in the dark, are stated to be selfish and personal, disinterested in making the world a better place, even if their sinister plans do include playing around with the fate of the world. It's downplayed, given that the Akaksuki also included the likes of Hidan, Zetsu and Deidara, none of whom had remotely noble motives or tragic backstories, and given that the Kara included Amado and Kashin Koji, who conspired to eliminate the threat of Jigen, making them Anti Villains for the time being. Just like some Akatsuki members, Kara also has members who augmented their bodies, but instead of doing it with jutsus, they did it through science augmented with chakra, turning themselves into cyborgs. Further, while the Akatsuki's modificiations tended to be part of their backstories from before they even became members, i.e. secret jutsus, rituals, abilities they invented themselves, etc. Kara's cyborgs are noted to all be a product of Amado's genius and Jigen's knowledge/resources. As for the threat it represents, Kara is on par with Akatsuki, their coming darkened the mood of the anime and manga a lot.
    • While most of them had abandoned their villages, the Akaksuki was still almost entirely made up of people who regarded themselves as ninja and held deep connections to various aspects of ninja culture and history. Kara, on the other hand, is made up mostly of people who abandoned their ninja identity or were never ninja to begin with. Indeed, a recurring theme of dialog with them is that they are not shinobi, and moreover they consider themselves superior to shinobi. The organization itself is not concerned with the ninja world in any way, seeking only something that existed before the ninja world came to be and seeking to use it for themselves.
  • The Dreaded: Shojoji is absolutely terrified of them and with good reason.
  • Dwindling Party: When we first meet the Inners (Outers are not counted as they are expendable and interchangeable), they were numbered 8 strong. note  As of Chapter 71, Code is the only Inner left that cares about following Isshiki's will; everyone else has either defected or died. With every Inner that collapses, their respective organizations (Victor's company, Boro's cult, etc.) falls with them, as they are not around anymore to lead them.
  • Government Conspiracy: Word of God has revealed that the organization has the backing of feudal lords who are unhappy with the peaceful policies of the current Five Kage and the Shinobi Union.
  • He Knows Too Much: Kara previously demonstrated the willingness to kill anyone outside the group who even knew their name. The Hidden Leaf was only tipped off to their existence because Shojoji fled before they realized he was there. Even then, he only gave up their name once Sasuke was called in to interrogate him, fearful of the group finding him. When Kawaki escaped, and the subsequent recovery operation was botched, Koji Kashin realized that it was impossible to hide their existence any longer, and they subsequently abandoned this approach.
  • Knight of Cerebus: The arrival of Kara in the manga, and even more so in the anime, marks the end of post-war peace in-universe as well as the end of the series's Lighter and Softer roots.
  • Leitmotif: "Vessel", an extremely ominous and escalating mix of chimes, drum beats, and chanting, signals their appearance.
  • Meaningful Name. "Kara" means "shell", which makes sense, since one of their goals is to create a vessel for Isshiki to inhabit and bare the fruit of the Divine Tree.
  • Oddly Small Organization: The core group is made up of only eight Inner members, while the myriad Outers are individuals who assist Kara from the outside, not being official members of the group.
  • Only One Name: Except for Koji Kashin, everybody else has only a single name of Aerith and Bob flavor.
  • Outside-Context Problem: Kara's mastery of advanced technology puts them beyond the average shinobi's realm of experience. Well-equipped Outers can defeat experienced shinobi with ease, and Inners like Delta are on the level where they can pressure Naruto himself (though Naruto was holding back during the fight). Unconventional tactics often have to be employed in order to defeat them.
  • Standard Evil Organization Squad: Like the Akatsuki, they are a team of villains/terrorists with sinister motives.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: The group shares a common cause and are loyal to it. However, loyalty to the cause does not necessarily mean loyalty to one another. While Jigen respects his subordinates and they generally, though not universally, respect him, they also frequently and sometimes violently quarrel with one another. Each of them wants to be the first to get at their ultimate goal, the Chakra Fruit of the God Tree, and the less people they have to share it with the better.
  • Theme Naming: The names of the Kara members in the Code arc, namely Code, Eida (or rather the name this is probably based on, Ada), Daemon and Bug, are all related to programming.
  • We Have Reserves: The Inners seem to regard the Outers as useful but ultimately disposable instruments. They don't consider them expendable per se as they do important work for the group, but they aren't particularly concerned if one of them dies either.
  • You Are Number 6: All the Inner members have a Roman Numeral tattooed on their face, even Kawaki, who hates the organization. What this means has yet to be revealed. So far I-IX, outside of VIII have been revealed.

Inner Members

    Delta

Delta

Voiced by: Houko Kuwashima (Japanese), Amber Lee Connors (English)

Debut: Boruto Chapter 15 (Manga), Boruto Episode 157 (Anime)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/delta_14.png
"From that expression, it seems you remember how sublime my punishments can be..."

Another prominent Inner member of Kara and the only female shown initially. Powerful, with a nasty temper to match, Delta is shown to be very focused when it comes to missions, taking out her anger on anything or anyone when it's not fulfilled fast enough. She is also shown to be extremely arrogant, stating that she can tear apart the Seventh Hokage easily. Has the Roman Numeral "I" tattooed on her forehead.

  • Anti-Regeneration: Her Eye Beam negates regeneration, making being hit with it a poor prospect.
  • Artificial Human: Chapter 75 at last reveals She is actually a clone of Amado's daughter Akebi, one of several attempts to remake her. She has Akebi's appearance and memories, but she is distinctly not Akebi, having a very different personality and essence, indeed perhaps something lacking in her humanity. It's implied this is because simply cloning a person cannot bring back a dead person's soul, instead a new individual is formed.
  • Ax-Crazy: Short tempered, sadistic and threatens to murder everyone if something doesn't go her way.
  • The Baroness: Delta fits the Sexpot type, sans dominatrix-style clothing. She is young, attractive, verbally abusive, Ax-Crazy and very, very wicked. She hates most of her teammates, considers herself Jigen's Number Two and gets excited at the mere thought of killing Naruto.
  • Blood Knight: Very eager to jump in and murder others to get what she wants. It doesn't matter who the opponent is either since she is fighting Naruto without any hint of fear.
  • Body Backup Drive: If Delta's body is destroyed, her drone can place her consciousness into a spare body back at Kara's hideout, which is how she survives her battle with Naruto when her body self-destructs.
  • Body Horror: Like Kawaki, Delta is able to shapeshift body parts into stabbing weapons. She takes it a step further and transforms her legs into practical rockets, similar to Pain's Asura Path, allowing her to fly.
  • Chuck Cunningham Syndrome: When she caught Amado fleeing from the headquarters, he promptly shut her down with a vocal command, and then she promptly disappeared from the story for an entire year, and Amado even stated that Code was the only inner left. However, In chapter 60, we see Amado working on a new cyborg, with the premise that is intended to be a powerful asset for Konoha. We also get a glimpse of the silhouette of said cyborg, and it's very much Delta's silhouette. This is confirmed in chapter 68 where she's revealed to have been remodeled to protect Konoha, something she seems to grudgingly accept.
  • Color-Coded Characters: Her character design is heavily associated with yellow.
  • Cleavage Window: Her blouse has a triangle shape cut-out opened enough to show a generous bust.
  • Combat Pragmatist: Delta coldly goes after Himawari and attacks her, knowing that Naruto will attempt to save her and let his guard down so she can land a hit. Subverted towards the end of the fight with Naruto, as she lets her emotions of anger overwhelm her judgment, leading to her defeat.
  • Combat Stilettos: Delta wears Zettai Ryouiki kind of boots with high heels. How does she keeps her stability and fight Naruto, is a mystery.
  • Cyborg: Delta's entire body is a Scientific Ninja Tool, which allows her to match Naruto in combat, even when he's in Nine-Tailed Sage Mode (though mitigated when it's later revealed he could have killed her quickly if he wanted to). She can shapeshift her body parts at will, allowing her stabbing weapons or rockets to fly. She has a drone-like object that can detect and seek out her targets, without it being noticed by her enemies. "Invisible" attacks are also useless since it can detect that too. This is tied to her eyes and if the eyes are overwhelmed, her field of vision with the drone becomes cut off. The drone can also place her mind into a spare body if her body is destroyed. She can absorb and shoot out any enemy jutsu with her eyes, making long-distance fighting against her pointless. She follows this up with a deadly Eye Beam attack, but absorbing too much energy can break it. Delta's body can also self-destruct if it is compromised, and her drone will place her mind into a spare body. Unfortunately for her, this can also work against her, because she was cybernetically enhanced by Amado (someone working against Jigen), who can knock her out with a shut down command.
  • Dark Action Girl: A sadistic, but formidable fighter who is also part of a villain organization. Later drops the "dark" part when Amado reprograms her to fight for Konoha, though she still keeps the attitude problem.
  • Dies Wide Open: How she goes out. Once Amado is defecing from Kara, he issues a shut down command to Delta, and she falls on the ground, with her eyes wide open. She gets better.
  • The Dreaded: This woman alone made Kawaki to sweat only with her presence.
  • Energy Absorption: Delta's eyes can absorb jutsu, even one as powerful as Naruto's Rasengan. It doesn't matter how big or dangerous the jutsu is, either. It has a limit, however, as not even Delta can predict that once her absorption breaks this limit, her eyes start to malfunction.
  • Energy Ball: Delta's eyes can also redirect and shoot out absorbed jutsu right back at her enemy, as a surprised Naruto found out with his Rasengan. There is no time limit to how long she can store her enemy's techniques, making her further unpredictable. She has to release this energy to make room for more, however, as too much energy shorts her eyes out, much to her surprise.
  • Even the Girls Want Her: Sexual orientation in question but unlike Shikamaru, who's married and had to fight like hell to resist, and Code, who is an Otsutsuki fanatic, Delta falls pretty easily for Eida's charm powers, blushing furiously and turning into a blubbering mess. Amado remarks this is due to her simple personality more than anything else.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: Delta is confused when Kawaki goes out of his way to defend Naruto and Himawari from her, injuring himself in the process for total strangers. This makes her angrier, since Kawaki is the "vessel" whose unique body exists for the sake of Kara and Jigen. Voicing this sentiment out loud pisses both Naruto and Boruto off.
  • Evil Only Has to Win Once: If Delta lands her Eye Beam attack on you, she's pretty much won the fight, as there is no hope of recovery from it. She lampshades this in her fight with Naruto, which he admits is true and does everything in his power not to get hit by the technique. however, Naruto stops dodging and negates her death beam attack with a Giant Rasengan while still holding back.
  • Eye Beam: Perhaps the scariest thing about Delta is this trope. Kawaki explains that the destructive power of the technique isn't what's most deadly, but the fact that getting hit by it prevents regeneration, which means that someone as powerful as Naruto would at best be permanently injured if hit by it...
  • Exotic Eye Designs: She has pink irises with black stripes in a vertical pattern.
  • Face of an Angel, Mind of a Demon: Delta is a beautiful woman with luscious blonde hair and yellow lipstick but her personality is rotten to the core.
  • Going to Give It More Energy: What Naruto ends up doing to Delta; both Delta and Kawaki voice out loud that Delta can absorb any jutsu, no matter how big and dangerous. However, Boruto and Naruto both counter that there must be a limit to how much energy she can absorb since energy doesn't simply vanish; rather, the energy is being stored. Sure enough, Naruto unleashes one Rasengan after another, with Delta desperately trying to keep up the absorption process until her eyes simply malfunctions. Naruto then finishes the fight with a Super Super Giant Rasengan, with Delta unable to protect herself anymore.
  • Hartman Hips: Delta has some pretty thick hips and a small waist.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Delta is very easy to anger. Pray that you're not near her when she starts lashing out.
  • Healing Factor: Delta's body modifications allow her to heal from nearly all attacks, as taking out her arms or legs does little to slow her down since she can conjure up new ones, even those blown away by Naruto's Lava Rasenshuriken. Attacking her middle does little either since her eyes will just absorb and redirect the energy as an attack.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Chapter 68 reveals that Delta has been reprogrammed by Amado to protect Konoha.
  • Hidden Depths: Under the thrall of Eida, Delta has demonstrated a girlish and meek side to herself, something that takes everyone off guard.
  • Jerkass: She's even more unpleasant to deal with than Kawaki, who's already a rude person with trust issues. In fact, she scares him so much, the boy is unnaturally submissive in her presence. She even tries to kill Himawari in an attempt to land a blow on Naruto. Even when she's been reprogramed to fight for the heroes, she's still has to be a bitch about it.
  • Jet Pack: Delta can shapeshift her legs into this, which allows flying to a degree.
  • Kick Chick: Delta's primary form of fighting is this; combined with her cyborg body, Delta becomes even more tricky and dangerous to deal with, as blocking her attacks can still lead to harm, as someone as durable as Naruto ended up with a hole in his gut.
  • Knight of Cerebus: Delta's intrusion on our heroes is this, as any joy or relaxation flies out the window and the drama is turned up suddenly.
  • Leg Focus: The anime took care to introduce the legs first, and only after the person. Fittingly, her preferred way to attack is by using her legs.
  • Logical Weakness: There's a limit to how much energy her eyes can absorb since she's really storing that energy instead of making it vanish, so when Naruto forces her to keep absorbing his Rasengan, Delta's eyes can't take it anymore and they short out.
  • Luminescent Blush: Blushes furiously under the spell of Eida, becoming redder when Eida talks to her directly.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Delta definitely qualifies due to her curvaceous figure, Cleavage Window and her shapely legs.
  • Psychopathic Manchild: Delta has very little emotional regulation. If she wouldn't be an adult woman, she'd be like a spoiled 4 year old throwing a tantrum. In her first scene, she yells, destroys things, including a huge stone column, just because she can't accommodate her new cybernetic leg.
  • Replacement Goldfish: Amado tries to save his dying daughter Akebi by cloning her, but even if the clones had her memories, they didn't have her personality. Amado had to give up and have repurposed the clones into Delta units.
  • Sadist: Delta takes sadistic pleasure at the thought of hurting Naruto by trying to kill Himawari, smiling as she does so.
  • Sexy Backless Outfit: Delta has half of her back exposed through a heart-shaped cut-out.
  • Smarter Than You Look: Delta catches on quickly during her brief bout with Naruto that he was intentionally letting himself be attacked to let Delta's guard down and spill more information about the organization, Kara. Naruto expresses disappointment and Delta becomes angrier that she's being "underestimated".
Delta: Well, well... Seems like I misunderstood you... Sorry for saying that I'd kill you. I'll retract that... I'm going to tear you apart alive. Limb-by-limb. As a thank you for trying to make a fool out of me...
    • This becomes subverted over time, since making Delta angry turns her into a chatterbox, screaming out loud Kara's secrets and unwittingly revealing the existence of Jigen to Naruto during their bout.
  • Smug Super: To say that Delta is "arrogant" is putting it very lightly. Her abilities allow her to stand up to someone as powerful as Naruto, and she states matter-of-factly that she will kill him if he continues to stand in her way of retrieving Kawaki.
Delta: I know about you, Uzumaki Naruto... You're the leader who manages the Shinobi of Konoha...The "Hokage", right? It's such an honor that I could meet you but...Would you mind stepping aside for me? You're in my way. My business is with the kid behind you.
Naruto: Well, that's too bad... Kawaki is our important guest. I won't approve of a suspicious stranger coming into contact with him.
Delta: Is that so... You're making me angry... I'll kill you.
    • When she lands a critical hit on Naruto, bringing him to his knees:
Delta: (Posing arrogantly) Oh? Down on your knees already? That's a bit of a letdown.
    • After Naruto tells her off for threatening his children and will make her pay for it, Delta knees Naruto to the ground and proceeds to step on his stomach wound, stating:
Delta: What's that about "making me pay for it", again...?
  • Sore Loser: Delta takes great pride in her strength to the point of looking down on Naruto despite the latter being the current Hokage of Konohagakure. So when Naruto manages to best her in combat and prove just how badly she underestimated him, she undergoes a severe Villainous Breakdown in the process. Once her mind is placed into a spare body, she is still fuming over her loss and vows to get revenge on Naruto, which is not helped by her fellow Inners teasing her about it.
  • Super Mode: Like Naruto, Delta can shroud herself in a Chakra-like cloak. This gives her a boost in strength and speed and makes her able to keep up with Naruto's own Sage Mode.
  • Super-Strength: A simple kick from her is enough to overturn a heavy table and completely destroy it when Jigen annoys her enough. She does this without visible effort while sitting. Later she destroys the bark of a tree with her bare fingers as a way of releasing her stress and anger. During her fight with Naruto, it allows her to go toe to toe with the Hokage, despite him using the power of Sage Mode and Kurama (though it's noted later that Naruto could have won quickly if killing her had been his goal).
  • Surrounded by Idiots: She's annoyed when Garo blabs Kara secrets in front of Konoha ninja. Making her a hypocrite since she starts blabbing secrets about Kara to Naruto near the end of her fight with him.
  • This Cannot Be!: Delta oozes this trope when Naruto manages to bypass her eye absorption defense and is about to get hit by his Super Super Giant Rasengan.
  • Trigger Phrase: As part of his schemes, Amado modified Delta with a command to render her unconscious. He uses it to prevent her from interfering in the mutiny. She gets better.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: When fighting seriously, she was a legitimate threat to Naruto, and could have killed him between her Eye Beam and Super-Strength. However, she's not really a good "fighter" per say, as while Naruto was serious (just not wanting to kill), he was able to match her raw power, or avoid her Eye Beam through superior speed or strategy. Once he started doing so, Delta finds herself struggling to hit him, and ultimately loses the fight after Naruto gets a grasp of her moves and simply exploits her weaknesses.
  • Villainous Breakdown: As the fight between her and Naruto wears on, Delta starts to become more tired and irritable as the skill and power gap between her and the Seventh Hokage begins to show. When she tries to attack Naruto by targeting Himawari, only for both to be saved by Kawaki of all people, she starts screaming in rage.
Delta: You bastards. Each and every one of you. How much angrier do you need to make me before you're satisfied?!"
    • Comes to a climax when Delta is overwhelmed by an enraged Naruto in taijutsu, her eye's absorbing function is negated and she's slammed into the ground by Naruto's Super Super Giant Rasengan. As all this happens, Delta devolves into an angry, psychotic, yelling mess.
  • Wingding Eyes: Delta's eyes are very exotic, with vertical lines running along the irides. This turns out to be a Shinobi Scientific Ninja Tool that allows her to take in and shoot out enemy jutsu. Her Eye Beam attack is the highlight of the tool. Turns out that it's not invincible, as overloading her eyes with energy can short it out.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Her quote underneath her photo says all you need to know about how she feels towards kids. She even threatens to tear apart Boruto and Himawari, while Naruto is right in front of her.
Delta: (To Boruto as he rushes to help his father and Naruto tells him to back down) There's no need for you to hold back, kid. If you want me to, I'll gladly send you both to the afterlife together.
    • She follows this up by attacking Boruto after he unwittingly attacks Delta and she absorbs his Vanishing Rasengan. After punching Boruto away, she then grabs poor Himawari and tosses her into the air, shooting out her Eye Beam attack, knowing that Naruto will do everything in his power to save his daughter, even blocking with his own body...which she was counting on.
  • Wound That Will Not Heal: The most dangerous part about Delta lies in her ability to hkill cells and prevent any regeneration in the form of a laser beam shot from her eyes. Even Naruto could die if he gets hit from it. The trade-off is that using such a technique takes an immense amount of chakra and multiple uses of it ends up tiring Delta out quickly.
  • You Monster!: Kawaki describes all the Inner members of Kara as this, with Delta standing out among them for her sadism.

    Koji Kashin

Koji Kashin

Voiced by: Yūichi Nakamura (Japanese), Kaiji Tang (English)

Debut: Boruto Chapter 15 (Manga), Boruto Episode 53 (Anime)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/koji_185.png
"Soon, whether it wants to or not, the world will learn the name and fearsomeness of Kara."
Click here to see him unmasked

A prominent Inner Kara member. His Roman Numeral Number is II represented by the lines under his eyes.

  • Alliterative Name: Koji Kashin.
  • An Arm and a Leg: He loses his left arm and seemingly the use of the legs as well, at the end of chapter 48.
  • Any Last Words?: Isshiki asks him this as a respectful courtesy, promising to pass them along to Amado when he catches up with him. Koji uses the opportunity to save himself.
    Koji Kashin: Kuchiyose Summoning!
  • Anti-Villain: Koji was created to kill Jigen. He is willing to do anything to be granted that opportunity and will do so without remorse, as evidenced by his many crimes in Kara.
  • Arc Villain: The Man Behind the Man to Ao in his self-titled arc.
  • Artificial Human: He's a clone of Jiraiya created to kill Jigen.
  • Compelling Voice: With Ao's help, he was able to get Katasuke under his control via Genjutsu and pass along secrets of the Scientific Ninja Tools to their organization.
  • The Bus Came Back: Koji Kashin makes his return in chapter 4 of "Two Blue Vortex", a total of 36 chapters as well as 3 years and 4 months after his latest appearence, in chapter 48.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Makes his debut much earlier in the anime appearing to ambush Katasuke during the Chunin Exams Arc
  • Enemy Mine: Sometime during the timeskip, Boruto crossed paths with Koji and formed an alliance with him to neutralize the Ten-Tails in Code's possession before it becomes a bigger threat than before. It's not clear if Koji has made a Heel–Face Turn, but he is definitely willing to work with Boruto and mentor him following Sasuke's incapacitation by being turned into a tree by a Claw Grime.
  • Energy Ball: He knows how to do the Rasengan, along with his ability to summon toads and affinity for the fire style implies a connection with Jiraiya, which is later revealed to not be just a coincidence.
  • Evil Counterpart: More of an anti-villain countepart so far, to Jiraiya. Both are powerful ninjas that can defeat Jonin level opponents with ease and both Toad Summonings, Fire Style techniques, and the Rasengan to combat their foes. However, whereas Jiraiya is a good man at heart, Koji is a sinister scheming asshole who seemingly doesn't have anything at heart except his ultimate goal of killing Jigen and subsequentely Isshiki.
  • Exact Words: Amado created Koji Kashin to defeat Jigen, not Isshiki Otsutsuki, something Koji realized all too late, though not too late to actually survive and escape.
  • Informed Attribute: Despite the statement that Amado has augmented every single inner of Kara, he's the only one who hasn't shown any power derived from ninja tech, nor any body modification beyond a small implant right below his right eye (presumely, the same device for a shut down voice command like in Delta's case).
  • Knight of Cerebus: In the manga. His execution of the defeated Ao to prevent him from talking and subsequent attempts on the lives of Team 7 make it clear that they're dealing with a very different kind of enemy.
  • Malevolent Masked Man: A scheming masked villain who murders his allies to advance his goals.
  • Manipulative Bastard: One of Koji's terrifying skills is to convince people to do what he wants, to the point that he convinced the hot-headed Delta to quell her blood lust. However, his machinations have not gone unnoticed by Jigen.
  • Meaningful Name: Koji Kashin is reputed in Japanese folklore to have been a wandering magician from the Japanese Warring States period who could win the confidence of even the wisest rulers and then betray them for personal gain. Oda Nobunaga himself was said to be among his victims. Naturally, Koji is The Starscream.
  • No Body Left Behind: Koji's "Zanmai no Shinka" (Samahdi Truth Flames) technique is so powerful that the victim is burnt to ash in seconds. The only way to counter it is to absorb it with a high-level technique. Boruto manages to save Konohamaru this way with his Karma.
Koji: Zanmai no Shinka. Regardless of strong winds or heavy rain... the flames of purgatory will never be extinguished.
  • No-Sell: The man easily defeats Konohamaru, a man who's at Jonin level, is the grandson of the Third Hokage and has been trained personally by the Seventh Hokage. He even says that Konohamaru "has a long ways to go".
  • Playing with Fire: His specialty. He kills Victor with a very powerful fire attack that leaves only remains of charred skin. The fire is so strong that any regenerative ability the victim may have can't keep up.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: Once it is clear Kara is exposed and continuing to try and silence witnesses would only draw more attention, Koji lets Team 7 escape, though he and Delta do continue their pursuit as they aren't about to allow Kawaki slip away.
  • The Reveal: Chapter 47 reveals that he is a clone of Jiraiya created in an attempt to kill Jigen and force Isshiki into the open.
  • Summon Magic: One of his specialties is to summon toads. He can also summon natural fires which he uses against Jigen to counteract the latter's absorption abilities.
  • The Starscream: Jigen makes extensive use of Koji's skills and he acts as something of his right-hand man. In truth, Koji was literally born to kill Jigen, and has been searching for the opportunity the entire time he has worked for Jigen. When he finally takes his shot, he succeeds. Unfortunately, Jigen's death only unleashes the Otsutsuki hiding within, at which point Koji's coup goes about as well as the Trope Namer's.
  • Super Mode: Like the person he is cloned from, Koji can use Sage Mode. Unlike his template, he has full mastery of it, because of this he doesn't partially turn into a frog. Unfortunately, this amounts to nothing against Isshiki's overwhelming power.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Intended to murder Team 7 once he discovered they knew about Kara.
  • White Hair, Black Heart: An evil douche who is sporting silver hair, despite looking like he's in his thirties/forties. As it turns out, the white hair comes from his genes.
  • White Mask of Doom: He sports a light grey mask to hide the fact that he has a wart on the left side of his nose, and two lines under his eyes, making him look similiar to Jiraiya, as he was during his younger years.
  • You Have Failed Me: Kills Ao for failing to kill Boruto and his team.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: His introduction to Team 7 starts with him attempting to murder Boruto and Ao, his underling, who was just defeated by the Uzumaki. And in a cruel twist of fate, Amado intended for this to be Koji's destiny as well, knowing he would never have the strength to take down Isshiki at full power. The worst part is that, as Isshiki himself notes, Kashin Koji was more then capable of realizing this, but was in denial, leading to the Otsutsuki actually pitying him. However, in spite of Amado's intentions and Isshiki's efforts, Koji ultimately slips away from the confrontation, critically injured but alive.

    Boro

Boro

Voiced by: Kenta Miyake (Japanese), Dave B. Mitchell (English)

Debut Boruto Chapter 15 (Manga), Boruto Episode 157 (Anime)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/boro.png
"That's what you get for charging in recklessly, fools!"

An inner for Kara. He has the roman numeral "III" on his face.

  • Adaptation Expansion: Doesn't appear much in the manga, apart from his fight with the new Team 7 + Kawaki, but the anime gives him alot more screentime interacting with his fellow Inners as well as his cult, fleshing out his personality more.
  • Achilles' Heel: His core, which allows him to regenerate without limit in a stable way. Once it was destroyed by Sarada, Boro's regeneration goes out of control, disfiguring him pretty badly. He also can't regenerate from significant damage anymore.
  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: Another inconvenience of having the regenerative Scientific Ninja Tools inside your body go out of control.
  • An Arm and a Leg: His arms get destroyed multiple times during his fight, thanks to the Scientific Ninja Tool in his body it's not a serious issue, as he can regenerate them instantly.
  • Believing Their Own Lies: In the anime, he seems to genuinely view himself as a savior for his cult members. Even when being confronted on how he used his virus as a means to create fake miracles, Boro boldly states that his power is a miracle in itself.
  • The Big Guy: Boro is massive compared to his fellow Inners. His power, likewise, is described as monstrous.
  • Body Horror: Boro's body swells up like a balloon and his legs are replaced by 5 tentacle-like appendages after Sarada destroys his core which resulted in his Scientific Ninja Tools going out of control.
  • Character Death: Momoshiki, using Boruto's body, destroys him utterly with a massive Rasengan.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: On the receiving end at the Momoshiki-possessed Boruto, who trounces him before reducing his body to dust with a giant Rasengan.
  • Fog of Doom: One technique he uses is a black mist (actually a cloud of viruses) that quickly weakens anyone caught on it.
  • Full-Frontal Assault: He loses more and more of his clothes during his fight against the new team 7, until he has none. His body has been modified to have Barbie Doll Anatomy.
  • Good Thing You Can Heal: He doesn't bother much with trying to avoid or mitigate damage to himself in fights, so confident he is in his regeneration. Instead he focuses on the hand signs needed to make sure his core is well away from whatever part of him is about to be attacked.
  • Healing Factor: He can quickly regenerate from any serious wound, he's even able to re-grow the half of his body that got blown away, including his head, all without ill effect. It's revealed that his primary weakness, his core, can move throughout his body in order to avoid damage.
  • Hidden Depths: Turns out that Boro is the leader of a fanatical cult, and that he has had them hide Amado's cyborgs, instead of disposing of them like Jigen ordered him to.
  • Irony: The anime shows him leading a cult worshipping the Ōtsutsuki. He tells his followers that the Ōtsutsukis are here to give salvation for humanity from all the hardship of reality through the infinite tsukuyomi. Yet, he ended up being killed by another Ōtsutsuki, namely Momoshiki who takes over Boruto's body and powers him up to destroy Boro in one hit.
Momoshiki: Don't get cocky, you inferior creature.
  • Karmic Death: He deceived countless people through his cult, and gets lured to an early grave when Koji Kashin gave him false intel that Boruto's karma was still incomplete when it actually wasn't.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Comes with being a cult leader. In the anime, he manage to manipulate one of his female follower into leaving her brother and even when said brother attempted to rescue his sister, Boro manages to use it to his advantage and show-off his regenerative power to strengthen the faith of his cult members.
  • Oh, Crap!: When he realizes that Boruto has been possessed by Momoshiki. It doesn't stop him from attempting to defeat him, though.
  • Plaguemaster: His "black mist" ability is, in reality, a cloud of viruses produced by his body. In Anime Episode 199 it's implied that he was the cause of an epidemic in a village, in order to present himself providing a cure and become their "savior".
  • Villainous Breakdown: After Sarada manages to destroy his core, he loses control of his anger, swinging his fists around like a maniac and screaming in rage.

"He's bad news..."

The leader of Kara and an Inner. He has the Roman Numeral "IV" tattooed on his face.

  • And I Must Scream: It's heavily implied that the real Jigen's consciousness still resides in his body after Isshiki took it over and kept it alive for over 1,000 years, only surfacing briefly during moments of agony, but no longer able to control it or even speak. It's gotten to the point where it comes off as a Mercy Kill when Jigen's body dies during the fight with Koji just before it's fully converted into Isshiki's body.
  • Black Eyes of Evil: The man has creepy large black pupils and looks even more sinister because of it.
  • Creepy Monotone: His deep voice lacks any intonations and speaks in a slower manner than people around him.
  • Demonic Possession: Jigen is merely a host, possessed by Isshiki Otsutsuki.
  • Faux Affably Evil: 'From what I can tell, this seems to be the living room. I apologize, Naruto Uzumaki, for coming in with my shoes on.'
  • Fighting from the Inside: Downplayed as it amounts to nothing more than showing there is more to Jigen than meets the eye, but after a exhausting battle Jigen begins to cry and Isshiki mocks him for his weakness.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: Amado states Jigen was once a novice monk before being possessed by Isshiki Otsutsuki.
  • Impersonation-Exclusive Character: Since Jigen's body has long been taken over by Isshiki and his consciousness had been completely suppressed, we never really find out what the real Jigen is like beyond the fact that he was novice monk before he fell victim to a Grand Theft Me. The most we get to see of his real personality is when he's shedding tears of pain whenever Isshiki puts his body through abuse. And since Jigen's body is killed during the fight with Koji just before the corpse is fully converted into Isshiki's new living body, it's unlikely we'll ever find out anything else about him.
  • Light Is Not Good: Wears a white robe, yet Jigen is the head of a terroristic organization.
  • Meat Puppet: Isshiki shrunk himself and fused himself onto Jigen's brain to take control of his body for the next 1,000 years. Isshiki has been keeping Jigen's body young and alive through unnatural means, all the while Jigen's conscious mind is implied to be a prisoner in his own body.
  • No Brows: He has no eyebrows and looks all around creepy.
  • Orcus on His Throne: Justified. Jigen was never a good vessel for Isshiki, so he remained inactive to allow himself time so a real vessel could found.
  • Power Floats: Jigen used levitation to fly with incredible speed and agility during much of his battle with Naruto and Sasuke.
  • Power Tattoo: He bears the Karma on his chin, and with the aid of science he managed to transfer it to Kawaki. When using more of its power, he grows a horn similar to Isshiki's.
  • Really 700 Years Old: Jigen, or at least his body, has been around since when Kaguya and Isshiki have arrived on Earth over a millennium ago thanks to Isshiki taking him over.
  • Samurai Ponytail: He has chalk-white bald skin coupled with a black ponytail.
  • Tears of Fear: Or rather, pain. After defeating Naruto and Sasuke, Jigen sheds some tears as he collapses in exhaustion. Isshiki berates him for his temporary vessel's "weakness". It's probably one of the only times Jigen's true personality ever shows up. The implication that he still has some consciousness left after Isshiki took over his body more than 1,000 years ago is plain terrifying.
Isshiki: Does your body hurt, Jigen?
  • Walking Spoiler: All of Jigen's terrible actions were actually committed by his puppeteer, Isshiki. It's why there's so little tropes about Jigen compared to Isshiki.
  • We Hardly Knew You: We never find out what the real Jigen was like before Isshiki took over his body since by the time he first appeared in the story, Jigen's personality was almost completely suppressed and Isshiki is in complete control. And since Jigen's body has now died and been fully converted into Isshiki's, we likely never will.

    Victor

Victor

Voiced by: Chō (Japanese), Doug Stone (English)

Debut: Boruto Chapter 15 (Manga), Boruto Episode 157 (Anime)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/victor_798.png
"Watch your tongue stripling. Unless you wish to die prematurely!"

An Inner for Kara. He has the Roman Numeral "V" on his left temple.

  • Adaptation Expansion: Appears in a single chapter with only a handful of lines in the manga but gets an entire arc to establish his motives, combat abilities, and personality as well as leading directly into the scheming that gets him killed; which are barely touched upon in the manga.
  • Arc Villain: With Deepa for the Kara Actuation Arc.
  • Artificial Limbs: Has a prosthetic leg following the loss of his original limb during the Fourth Shinobi World War. Supplements it with a cane to move. Thanks to his genetic engineering, he can grow additional limbs to fend off multiple opponents on his own.
  • Asshole Victim: Victor is killed by Koji despite being innocent in losing the vessel. Considering he was an elderly jerk who thought only about himself, and already tried once to follow his own scheme, even if it meant going against the organization he was part of, no one will miss him.
  • Cane Fu: When in battle, he duels with his walking cane, rather then any traditional weapon.
  • Can't Take Criticism: He does not respond well to criticism.
  • The Corrupter: It's revealed in the anime that he was the one who recruited the previously heroic ex-shinobi Ao, to join Kara as an Outer member. After his injuries made it so he could no longer become a shinobi, Victor preyed on his feelings and gave his life new purpose to serve as a tool for Kara.
  • Corrupt Corporate Executive: The head of a medical research company in the Land of Valleys in public and an Inner for Kara in private.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: Not that Victor was undeserving, but dying from a jutsu that can create the effect of a spontaneous combustion, is a painful way to go down, and it certainly made Victor to beg for his life.
  • Evil Wears Black: Notable in Victor's case as even when not wearing the standard uniform, he dresses in black.
  • Fall Guy: When Koji Kashin and Amado put their plan into action and attack the airship transporting Kawaki, they stage the scene to look like an accident. As Victor was in charge of the transport, he takes the blame, and is killed by Koji for incompetence on Jigen's orders. The anime expands on this and has Amado regenerate Deepa's head to get them to spill the beans on Victor's previous schemes.
  • Family-Unfriendly Death: He is burned to death Koji, so much for a kid show.
  • Handicapped Badass: He is missing an eye and a leg, but it doesn't stop Victor from being a genuine danger against elite ninjas like Konohamaru and Mugino.
  • Healing Factor: Has regenerative abilities thanks to his research. It doesn't save him from Koji.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: Recognizing that he and his men were turning up nothing on their missing scientist and their research, he pools his resources with the Hidden Leaf Shinobi, as they were only searching for a missing person and not what he was carrying.
  • Shell-Shocked Veteran: He lost his leg during the Fourth Shinobi World War, shows occasional involuntary muscle movements, and has grown embittered towards shinobi in general since.
  • The Starscream: He feigns loyalty to Jigen and Kara but is constantly plotting behind their backs to use them for his own gains. No one truly trusts him so when his final plan to steal the vessel fails, Jigen has Koji kill him for his failure.
  • Villain with Good Publicity: He is the head of a highly advanced and respected medical research company, making strides in the development of prosthetics and regenerative medicine, and appears very high-minded with goals of making these available to the masses. He is also an Inner for Kara, who are using those advances to further their own agenda.
  • War Is Hell: He is less than impressed with anyone who tries to paint it as anything else.
Victor: You shinobi love to give every war a name. But to the ordinary citizens who get caught up in the fighting, named or not, it's all the same... War is just plain war.
  • You Have Failed Me: For the loss of Kawaki, Jigen has him killed by Koji.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: In addition to arranging the death of an Outer, he also had one of his infected employees killed when he could not retrieve usable genetic material from his body.

    Code

Code

Voiced by: Junta Terashima

Debut: Boruto Chapter 15 (Manga), Boruto Episode 157 (Anime)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/code_1.png
"No problems here. Other then me dying from boredom."
Click here to see his appearance after removing the limiters.

An inner for Kara. He has the roman numeral "VI" on his face. An Otsutsuki fanatic, Code worships their existence and practices, considering them to be walking Gods. He's so devoted that Isshiki Otsutsuki of all people considers him worthy of carrying on his will. Like Kawaki, Code was a candidate for becoming a vessel for Isshiki but while he did not die like others who failed, his Karma turning white instead of black, he was unable to become a vessel. However, this had the unintended side effect of bestowing Code with some of Isshiki's considerable power level and battle experience. Following Isshiki's death, Code becomes the last true member of Kara, determined to follow his master's will of consuming a chakra fruit and ascending to become an Otsutsuki himself.

  • Actually Pretty Funny: Even though he loses any modicum of control he might have had over Ten Tails, he laughs at Boruto getting into trouble with its divided bodies, the now-humanoid Divine Trees, claiming that it actually works in his favor and takes a huge weight off his shoulders before making his exit.
  • Arch-Enemy: Code considers Kawaki this. In his mind, Kawaki "stole" the "honor" of becoming Isshiki's vessel by being the only candidate worthy of housing the alien's power and Kawaki "stole" Eida's affections "away" from Code. So he intends to make Kawaki's life a living hell by destroying all that Kawaki holds dear: his new home Konoha, his new found friends and his new adoptive father and brother, Naruto and Boruto.
  • Adaptation Dye-Job: Because his official color scheme wasn't revealed until chapter 55, which was released after his debut in the anime, his color scheme in the latter doesn't match the one in the former. He has auburn hair (instead of dark red), auburn eyes (instead of green), his earrings are purple (instead of grey), and the cranio facial belt on his face is light grey (instead of black).
    • Averted starting from episode 287, where his color scheme is changed to match the one in the manga.
  • Avenging the Villain: After Isshiki's departing spirit entrusts him with his mission, Code first vows to get revenge on Naruto, Sasuke, Boruto, Kawaki, and Amado for the role they played in Isshiki's death.
  • Bait-and-Switch Boss: After being set up to be the main antagonist in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, he gets quickly upstaged by the Ten-Tails in his possession after it becomes sapient and divides into the 4 Divine Trees, with the latter becoming the real threat and Code pretty much mocked and looked down on as a "clown".
  • Big Bad Duumvirate: He forms an uneasy one with Eida after he awakens her and they form an alliance to get revenge, Code wants revenge upon those who killed Isshiki, While Eida wants Amado dead for giving her powers. Chapter 71 sees an end to this alliance, as Eida now sees Code as an annoying and selfish hindrance and has Daemon chase Code away, despite having his limiters released.
  • Big Bad Wannabe: While certainly dangerous, Code's loss of Eida and Daemon cripples him severely since he no longer has access to their formidable abilities. Code's ego is also damaged when he gets his ass kicked by Kawaki's awakened form, pre-limiters, and then has his ass kicked again by Daemon, post-limiters. Not helping is that absolutely no one respects his presence, threats or opinions, simply seeing Code as the pathetic, psycho zealot that he is. On the run from nearly everyone, he only has Bug now as his unwilling accomplice. That said, he then reveals he still has access to the other Ten Tails, and intends to unleash an army of its divisions against his enemies. That doesn't go very well either, because it grows too powerful and intelligent for him to control after his very first use of said divisions. One of the divisions even mocks how Code seems destined to be "a clown who ends up being used by someone else."
  • Blue-and-Orange Morality: Seems to have a very different view of things from his other Kara members. While the rest of Kara either seek to gain power for themselves or secretly to try to stop Isshiki's plans, Code is genuinely devoted to serving Isshiki. He regards Isshiki as his god, and is so enraged that Naruto and company dared to destroy him that he decides to set aside Isshiki's last request that Code devote himself to becoming a Otsutsuki in his place to instead focus on vengeance against those who killed his god. He is fully aware of what Isshiki's clan did to so many worlds, and what Isshiki sought to do to Earth, yet has no issue at all with it, indeed not comprehending why anyone (such as Kawaki) would not want to give up their lives to Isshiki.
  • Break the Haughty: Several times in the story, Code is given a brutal reality check when other characters prove that he's not as strong as he thinks he is, pre AND post limiters. However, these experiences fail to teach Code any humility, causing him to double down on his goal of getting revenge for Isshiki and ruining his enemies. He refrains from attacking Konoha with his army of Claw Grimes only because of Eida and Daemon having entered it after leaving him behind.
  • The Dragon: He’s Isshiki’s most trusted ally and supporter.
  • Dragon Ascendant: After Isshiki's death, his spirit approaches Code and encourages him to continue in his footsteps in acquiring the chakra fruit from planting a Divine Tree and to evolve into an Otsutsuki. Then the Ten Tails decides it no longer needs him and pulls this exact same trope.
  • Evil Is Petty: Code hates Kawaki so much for "ruining" his life that he intends to wreck everything that Kawaki holds dear: his new home, his friends, his adoptive family...
    • He tends to hold grudges towards people who annoy him, telling Shikamaru before he leaves that he's on his "list" of people he wants to kill. Shikamaru tells him to piss off.
  • Evil Redhead: Code has copper hair and he is one of the Big Bads. Later his hair changes to white when his limiters are released.
  • Foil: To Kawaki. Both were granted Karma marks by Isshiki and survived. However, Code is unsuitable as a vessel, while Kawaki is ideal. Code develops a more laid-back and sarcastic demeanor, while Kawaki grows cold and stoic after years of being tormented by Jigen. Finally, Code is utterly devoted to Isshiki, while Kawaki hates him more than anyone else.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: He's jealous of Kawaki for being suitable to be Isshiki's vessel. Also, in the manga he has green eyes. This jealously expands further when Kawaki "steals" Eida's affections away from him.
    • On a lesser note, after having his limiters removed and powering up, Code declares to Eida that she only needs one "knight" to keep her safe and declares that Daemon will be disposed of to prove his worth. Eida considers Code "creepy" for this assumption while Daemon is amused that Code actually thinks he's stronger than him; what follows is Daemon putting Code in his place with a brutal beatdown.
  • I Lied: He tells Amado that if he releases his limiters, he'll let him go; if not, he'll kill him instead. Once done, Code tries to kill him anyway. He's only stopped when Amado manages to appeal to Eida into letting him live and pitting Code and Daemon against each other.
  • Mundane Utility: The marks he can "scratch" onto any surface are first shown to allow him to kill in ways that are very difficult to defend against (such as extending a claw from a mark he places on someone's neck). However, outside of battle they also make it easy to move great distances in seconds, and also to communicate at great distances, as shown when he tells Eida to guide him and then simply makes sure one of his ears is poking through a mark he left on her arm so he can hear her reply.
  • Power Limiter: Was willingly equipped with one internally by Amado as a compromise for Jigen allowing him to live. It can only be removed by Amado himelf. Unsealed, Code''s power is stated to be greater than Jigen's, though not greater than Isshiki's.
  • Power Tattoo: Turns out he too bears a Karma. This however, is a lesser variant, a White karma, which lacks the possibility to overwrite its bearer's DNA with the DNA of an Otsutsuki and can't absorb jutsu at will. Still, it does have the possibility of allowing the host to become an Otsutsuki via a Chakra Fruit, as well as providing Code with Isshiki's combat experience, becoming a seasoned warrior.
  • Smug Snake: Seems to have a very high opinion of himself. He was bold enough to sarcastically wolf whistle while the Inners were meeting to discuss the loss of Kawaki, and later mocked Delta for being unable to defeat Naruto, promising that he or his fellow Inner Boro would land the killing blow on the Seventh Hokage. Given that he’s one of the strongest members of Kara next to Jigen, with his limiters on, it's no wonder he's arrogant. However, his pride is torn to shreds several times during the story when he's beaten by Kawaki and Daemon.
  • Smug Smiler: In the Kawaki arc, he is always grinning with a dismissive look on his face. As the story goes on and he suffers defeats and setbacks, Code gradually loses the smile, instead replaced with scowls and the occassional angry look.
  • Stealth Expert: Apparently was able to covertly examine Naruto close up for Karma while the Seventh Hokage was in recovery after the battle with Momoshiki Otsutsuki.
  • Teleport Spam: Code abuses this trope for all its worth, setting his claw marks everywhere he can to zip around his surroundings. This successfully disorients his opponents as he moves closer and closer, before killing them. The claw marks also contains trace amounts of iron from his blood, despite being chakra based, making them physical matter, so absorbing them with Karma becomes impossible. The only weakness is that they must be big enough to let himself and others through, so if the mark is too small, Code can't "teleport". Kawaki abuses this flaw with his newly awakened Sukunahikona ability, shrinking the marks to trap Code in place and deliver a beating while he's distracted.
  • The Unfavorite: Not outright disliked, as Isshiki noted Code was his most loyal subordinate. But Code was the other surviving child of Isshiki and Amado's experiments besides Kawaki. And while he survived, he proved unsuitable to serve as a vessel, instead gaining the White Karma. As a result, Kawaki received constant attention, while Code was equivalent to an ordinary Inner and resented it.
    • Everyone outside of Kara ends up hating Code for his fanaticism towards the Otsutsuki and later, both Eida and Daemon ditch Code when they find him to be annoying.
  • Eye Scream: Come chapter 81 and the timeskip, and he is reintroduced sporting a vertical scar over his left eye, mirroring Boruto's own scar over his right eye.
  • Undying Loyalty: He's utterly devoted to Isshiki, to the point where he's disappointed he couldn't become the latter's new body. Indeed, he outright states Isshiki was his god. When his failed Karma allows Isshiki to communicate with him, Code decides to continue his master's plan to cultivate a chakra fruit, but first and foremost to get revenge on the ones who defeated him.
  • White Hair, Black Heart: In his post limiter state, Code's red hair turns the same color as his Karma: pure white. He's still as vile as ever, if not more so due to the power boost also boosting his ego.

    Deepa

Deepa

Voiced by: Tetsuya Kakihara

Debut: Boruto Episode 157 (Anime)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/deepa_5.png
"It won't matter if we get a little rough."

An Inner for Kara introduced in the anime. He has the Roman Numeral "VII" tattooed across his face.

  • Arc Villain: With Victor for the Kara Auction Arc.
  • Ax-Crazy: God help you if you happen to be in his way. He will kill you and he will enjoy it.
  • Carbon Skin: Deepa has the power of carbon control which allows him to turn his skin into carbon or form cubes of carbon to fire at his opponents. He can also transform his carbon skin into diamond.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: In the final confrontation over the Hashirama Cell, Deepa crushes all opposition effortlessly, deliberately stretching out the fight to entertain himself.
Deepa: You don't get it do you? This was never a battle. This was just a fun hunting trip.
  • Dude Looks Like a Lady: When his entire outfit is concealed beneath his cloak, it's actually difficult to tell that Deepa is male at a passing glance.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Word of God says that even within Kara's ranks, Deepa is considered unstable and dangerous. Which is saying something considering the rep sheet the group boasts.
  • Evil Is Petty: After knocking out Boruto, Deepa just walks on him and starts to mock everyone.
  • Exact Words: After he brutalizes Omoi, he tells his teammates that if they tell him where the Hashirama Cell is, he will let Omoi live. Reluctantly, they do so, and Deepa promptly murders them, saying that he was true to his word: Omoi and Omoi alone will survive this encounter.
  • Fall Guy: Posthumously, after he was killed in his second battle against Team 7, Victor had made fabricated evidence that it was him who made the Imperfect Divine Tree in order hide any evidence that he was actually responsible for the plans in the first place. However, Jigen doesn't fully trust Victor, and has Amado restore Deepa's head to find out from him what really happened in the Land of Valleys.
  • Faux Affably Evil: Leaves money on the counter for the meal he just had... having casually murdered everyone else in the establishment.
  • The Hedonist: Deepa has quite possibly the most self-indulgently base motivations of any villain in the entire franchise. There is no apparent loyalty, patriotism, philosophy, religion, quest for knowledge or desire for self-betterment behind anything he does. Put simply, this man likes to taste good food and hurt people. Feeding these appetites is his reason for being.
  • Knight of Cerebus: In the anime. For the first time since the start of the series, Team 7 loses and loses badly. As a result of him, their mission is a complete failure, and they are lucky to even be alive.
  • I'm a Humanitarian: By his own admission, he will gladly eat people as part of his desire to taste the world, but only once they've been broken.
  • Instant Armor: He demonstrates control of carbon molecules, including those in his own body, which allows him to create localized or full-body armor that is effectively impenetrable.
  • Laughing Mad: Spends his whole fight with Omoi and company giggling like a school girl.
  • Lightning Bruiser: He moves fast and hits hard.
  • More Dakka: His control of carbon atoms allows him to create small dense cubes of solid metal, which he will then spam like there's no tomorrow.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: In episode 169, Deepa displays several character traits unlike himself. He acts rather depressed or somber at times, not enjoying himself in battle or bothering to finish off his opponents when they destroy the object he had come to retrieve. The reasons for this were two-fold: He didn't want to be put on retrieval duty to begin with as he didn't see any value in Toneri's puppets, and he had been served an unsatisfying meal at a restaurant.
  • Outside-Context Problem: Omoi refers to him as such, noting that a conventional approach won't work. He's right.
  • Rapid-Fire Fisticuffs: His preferred style of fighting. Coupled with the fact that he coats his fists in metal and it's devastatingly effective.
  • Slasher Smile: Puts on his best when he's in a fight.
  • Smug Snake: When it doesn't stretch out into the aforementioned smile, he's always got a cocky grin, and is definitely sure of himself.
  • Stealth Hi/Bye: Pulls one on Victor after they confirm the location of their target.
  • Threshold Guardian: Delivers a sound defeat to Boruto, Sarada and Mitsuki, effectively becoming the obstacle they must overcome together if they are to advance both as individuals and as a team.
  • Troll: He is in fond of mocking his adversaries and making them believe they have the upper hand. He did the latter to Boruto when he thought he was gonna defeat Deepa, only for the villain to tell him he is joking and the entire team stand no chance against him from the very beginning. He just wanted to play with them.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: After he provided information to Jigen about what really happened in the Land of Valleys, Jigen ordered his head to be destroyed, as it doesn't benefit Kara to keep him alive.

    Ouga

Ouga

Voiced By: Kappei Yamaguchi (puppet), Sara Matsumoto

Debut: Boruto Episode 275

An Inner of Kara. Has the Roman Numeral "VIII" on her forehead.

  • Evil Puppeteer: From the outset, it's clear that the Ouga encountered by those trapped in the maze is a puppet conveying Ouga's will and conducting the tests. This is because she's in the maze with them.
  • Walking Spoiler: It's hard to discuss Ouga without spoiling the various twists and turns of the Labyrinth Game arc.

    Amado

Amado

Voiced by: Akio Ōtsuka

Debut: Boruto Chapter 26 (Manga), Boruto Episode 179 (Anime)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/amado.png
"You're going to keep at it? I've lost track of how many have died."

An Inner and scientist who works for Kara under Jigen. He is the man responsible for the modifications applied to Kawaki's body and has a personal connection with both Delta and Koji Kashin. He also is the only one of the group that isn't marked by a roman numeral.

  • Ain't Too Proud to Beg: Lampshaded. Once Code takes him back to base, Amado offers to remove his limiters in exchange for his life. Code calls him pathetic for this and questions if he has any pride, only for Amado to rebuke that it's a useless concept to him.
  • Ambiguously Evil: Amado seemingly never truly agreed with Kara's way of doing things or goals, yet he did created weapons and cyborgs for them, and all just to find a way to kill Isshiki. And still there are hints that his true goal may not be that noble.
    • As the story goes on, it's hinted more and more, and later confirmed, that he wants Kawaki for his own goals.
  • Anti-Villain: Amado was at least partly responsible for the danger to begin with, and he showed no qualms about the many horrific acts he performed.
  • The Chessmaster: Amado works to orchestrate events to bring about his goal: the destruction of Isshiki Otsutsuki. Even his intended target has to admit it was quite impressive.
    • He is willing to take large risks for his goals, such as restoring Kawaki's karma in secret, fully knowing that he wouldn't have ever agreed to it. Chapter 75 reveals that he did it so Kawaki could mark with the karma a new body in order to bring back his daughter.
  • Cyborg: He was able to modify his own eyes, and make them able to interface with various objects, like the tech he installed in his own glasses, or Code's limiters. This also makes impossible to perfectly replicate his appearence with a transformation jutsu, thus forcing Code to actively come for him, if he wants to regain all his powers, since he is the only one who can remove his limiters.
  • Deal with the Devil: How he came to work under Jigen. Jigen offered a means to truly resurrect Amado's daughter where cloning had failed, perhaps via Karma (as it transfers the soul in addition to memories). Amado did not realize at the time that helping Isshiki return would mean there would be no planet for his daughter to live on.
  • Defector from Decadence: The story Amado tries to sell when he defected to Konoha is that he accepted to be part of Kara, only to kill Isshiki.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Amado has a very dry humour which shows just how detached he is in his job.
Delta: ... But the one who pisses me off the most is you, with all your annoying lectures!
Amado: I guess everyone hates me.
  • Despair Event Horizon: When he realized that no matter how many times he tried, creating a clone of his daughter and implanting her memories in it, wouldn't actually bring his actual daughter back as the clone would be a totally new individual regardless, Amado came to the realization that she was truly gone.
  • Good Running Evil: Amado joined forces with Konoha in exchange for protection against Kara. In return, he provides Konoha with his scientific acumen.
  • Good Smoking, Evil Smoking: He's smoking in most of his appearances in the manga. In the anime instead, he's rarely seen without a mug.
  • Hazy-Feel Turn: Amado joined Kara just to destroy Isshiki Otsutsuki and then seemingly defected for Konoha. And yet, Code reveals that the only reason Amado joined forces with Konoha was to put himself at safety from Code. There also other hints that Amado follows his own secret agenda, of which Sumire and Shikamaru are very suspicious.
  • Mad Scientist: He's the one who turned Kara members into cyborgs and is responsible for their technological supremacy.
    • He is also responsible for the creation of various cyborgs stated to be stronger than Jigen himself, who had them be disposed because of this.
    • He was shown creating a new cyborg while in Konoha, which turns out to be a reprogrammed Delta.
  • Manipulative Bastard: He seems to read people like a book, friend and foe alike, and uses this to his advantage whenever possible as he puts his plans into motion.
  • The Man Behind the Man: He is the one who created Koji Kashin, and gave him a reason to exist in killing Jigen.
  • Mr. Exposition: In exchange for asylum in Konoha, he offers most of the knowledge we get about Jigen's past and his relationship to the rest of the Otsutsuki. Which is fortunate given Jigen/Isshiki himself offers almost no information in his encounters with Naruto and Sasuke.
  • Mellow Fellow: Amado is very laid-back and detached most of the time.
  • Non-Action Guy: Amado is not a shinobi, his role is to be the head of research and development division for Kara and later for Konoha.
  • Outliving One's Offspring: Amado had a daughter Akebi, that died 12 years prior the story. Her dna was used to create a clone of her, Delta.
  • The Starscream: He willingly fled to Konoha and requested asylum in exchange of his knowledge about Kara and Karma, while turning Koji loose on the weakened Jigen.
  • The Stoic: His expressions don't change much. Even when in mortal peril.
    • Chapter 68 marks the first time where this is subverted, as Amado is left paralyzed by fear and shocked when Code appears in front of his eyes, seemingly out of nowhere. Then, Eida appeared too. In chapter 69, he is injured for the first time in the show, courtesy of Code stabbing him in his collarbone, and like he said before to Shikamaru and Naruto, he doesn't hold too well against it. Then, in chapter 70, he's dragged by Code in the latter's lair, and he is left begging for his life. For his own admission though, he doesn't hold any value in concepts such as pride.
  • Token Human: The most human guy out of the inners. It's actually downplayed because He too is a cyborg, only to a much smaller degree compared to the others.
  • Unfazed Everyman: Amado is the epitome of Token Human not giving a single f-bomb about the wackiness and supernatural happening around him. It doesn't even matter if Delta threatens him or Kawaki slams him against the wall, he will keep same detached composure.
  • Would Hurt a Child: He experimented on at least fifteen children, including Kawaki. Thirteen of them died. Kawaki became the vessel. The fifteenth was Code. He also had no qualms about strapping a bomb to Shikadai, although that time he was bluffing. Also, one of the people he experimented on in order to create cyborgs, is a kid, Daemon.
  • Xanatos Speed Chess: A grandmaster of this by his own admission. He can’t predict what the future holds, so he plans for all possible contingencies as events play out, so as to make make the best possible move at critical moments. What his endgame is remains a mystery.

Outer Members

    Ao

    Garō

Garō

Voiced by: Hiroaki Tajiri (Japanese), John Eric Bentley (English)

Debut: Boruto Chapter 24 (Manga), Boruto Episode 188

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/imageedit_30_8504196291.png
"I need to retrieve... our precious vessel."

An Outer of Kara who worked with Delta to try and recover Kawaki.

  • Adaptation Expansion: The anime shows us a bit more of him, showing how exactly did he got injured, and heavily implying that he was a test subject for the karma of Jigen, much like Kawaki.
  • Adaptational Badass: Considering that his fight against Kawaki lasted longer in the anime than in the manga, this was a given. He fairs much better, and overwhelms Kawaki for more time, before the latter's Power Tattoo activates.
  • Arm Cannon: Two in fact. His weapons of choice.
  • The Bully: Easily qualifies as he torments Kawaki for no better reason than he believes him to be weak and ungrateful.
  • Dumb Muscle: His apparent role within Kara. He's brutal and destructive, which is precisely what they expect from him.
  • Jawbreaker: Is on the receiving end of an absolutely brutal one from Kawaki. After threatening to beat Kawaki into submission, Garo is caught completely off-guard when Kawaki fires a beam of energy from his Karma directly into his face, tearing his jaw clean off and severely burning his face.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Right through the torso by Kawaki.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Despite the case of Adaptation Expansion above, his role in the story still boils down to appearing, trying to kidnap Kawaki, dying by his hand, and then be forgotten by everyone.
  • The Worf Effect: The Outers have been established as serious threats by Ao. So when Kawaki kills Garo with ease, it quickly conveys to the audience this kid means business, even before the inevitable battle depicted in the flashforward.

    Garashi Touno

Garashi Touno

Voiced by: Kishow Taniyama

Debut: Boruto Episode 157 (Anime)

A Hidden Rain war orphan, Garashi joined Kara as an alternative to his hellish life in the destroyed village. He was charged with guarding their old research facility.

  • Better to Die than Be Killed: Despite having been used as a tool, his faith in Kara is unshakeable, and rather then be captured and interrogated by Sasuke and Sai, he slashes his own throat.
  • Death by Irony: His intended fate. The poison gas he used to betray and kill his friends would ultimately have killed him. Ultimately though, he took his own way out.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness. In a way. Kara itself likely did not intend to kill Garashi, as Jigen was irritated upon hearing of his death and the circumstances surrounding it, and immediately cast his suspicions on Victor. Given what Victor was up to around this time, it is likely he supplied the faulty gas mask as a means to prevent Garashi from revealing anything about his operations to Kara itself as much as the Hidden Leaf.

    Victor's Secretary

Victor's Secretary

Voiced by: Hitomi Nabatame

Debut: Boruto Episode 168

A woman who ostensibly works as Victor's Secretary at his company and is in fact his lead Outer.

  • Dark Action Girl: Apparently is quite formidable in this measure… if she wasn’t facing Orochimaru.
  • Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep": Her real name is never given, and she is referred to in credits simply as Victor's Secretary.
  • Not Enough to Bury: Orochimaru's attack slices her to severely that she essentially turns into dust.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: After a handful of sporadic appearances alongside her boss, Victor entrusted her with killing the escaping Mugino and Feudal Lord, a task she seemed perfectly capable of doing under the circumstances. Unfortunately, she did not count on the sudden appearance of Orochimaru, who promptly and literally cut her to pieces.

    Bug

Bug

Voiced by: Takumi Yamazaki

Debut: Boruto Chapter 56 (Manga), Boruto Episode 287

An Outer formerly under Boro's command, Bug is pressed into Code's service after the collapse of Kara.

  • Butt-Monkey: He is treated a bit like this, with Eida mocking him in a playful manner or Daemon jumping on him. He doesn't receive too much respect for being part of the group.
  • The Engineer: His role under Boro, tasked with the continued maintenance and oversight of the stasis pods containing Eida and Daemon.
  • Forced into Evil: Played with. He is a willing agent of Kara and loyal to Boro in particular, entrusted with some of his greatest secrets no less. However, he is substantially less willing to work for Code, who has to threaten him to ensure his compliance.
  • Non-Action Guy: Bug, like Amado, is a skilled technician but not a fighter. His technical skills are why Code keeps him around.

    Eida

Eida

Voiced by: Kana Hanazawa

Debut: Boruto Chapter 56 (Manga), Boruto Episode 287

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/eida_manga.png
"Everyone becomes captivated by me. Both men and women. No matter who they are"

A young woman whose body was modified by Amado. Like several other cyborgs, she was ordered by Jigen to be destroyed as she was too dangerous. However, Boro secretly kept her dormant in a hidden base due to being affected by her charm ability. She would eventually be located and awakened by Code.

  • Anime Hair: In a franchise that has relatively normal hair colors and hairstyles for the most part, she sticks out the most thanks to her hair, that is dark blue with pink accents and loops at the tips.
  • Big Bad Duumvirate: After she was awakened she forms an alliance with Code who plans on attacking Konoha to get revenge on the people who killed Isshiki. Eida herself cares nothing about Isshiki, even remarking she found his death amusing, but works with Code because she wants Amado dead for giving her burdensome powers. For her own admission, however, she sees this alliance as a mere partnership, and warns Code that she won't have any problem in having him be disposed of. Later, she makes good on this threat by abandoning Code when she found him a "hindrance" to her goals, ordering Daemon to chase him away, which he does.
  • Blue-and-Orange Morality: She and Daemon only care about their own interests, not Kara's or Konoha's. Eida makes it abundantly clear to Code that she only follows him to relieve own boredom and get revenge on Amado, and Code is lucky there are two Karma wielders and he only needs to sacrifice one of them. She threatens to have Daemon kill him the moment he gets annoying, something Daemon shows to be capable of doing. When Shikamaru proposes that she can just stay with both Kawaki and Boruto if she quits Kara for Konoha, she promptly does so, though Shikamaru doesn't consider it a Heel–Face Turn.
  • Charm Person: One of her abilities is capturing the hearts of almost anyone near her or sees her, and the effect remains for as long as she's alive. While the victims don't always think of her romantically and some even express fear, they can't harm her, and have to obey if she asks for something directly. The effect can be slowed down if resisted, but at the risk of brain damage. This is how she avoids being disposed of by Boro on Jigen's request. The only people who are immune to this are her own blood relatives and people who are Otsutsuki clan members or biologically close enough to count as Otsutsuki.
    • In Chapter 74, when she arrives in Konoha, she has the majority of the citizens already under her spell through her presence alone. Emotionless types like Sai and Mitsuki are blushing furiously just by looking at her, haughty Cho-Cho can't help but compare her to an angel and Konohamaru ends up fainting as a result of staring too long at her while trying to fight off her charms. Only Shikadai and Sarada were able to resist, though whether this is due to not getting a good look at her or some other factor remains to be seen.
    • Although later on, Shikadai is shown to be affected due to taking a good look at her face, and Sarada and Sumire are shown to be unaffected despite having looked at Eida's face for a reason which is currently unknown.
    • Chapter 75 reveals to Boruto via Momoshiki that unlike her Senrigan her charm power is not shinjutsu, that is it is not a power any Otsutsuki possessed.
    • Chapter 79 confirms that her charm power is, after all, part of a Shinjutsu called Omnipotence, and it is a result of Eida wanting to be loved, this affecting everyone but her brother and Otsutsuki.
  • Cosmic Motifs: Her dark shorts have patterns of blue stars, a moon, and a planet with a rings around it. Her irises have crescent moon desings in them, while her Senrigan resembles an eclipse when is activated. Even her Omnipotence shinjutsu is said to be an Otsutsuki technique used to create worlds.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Eida seems to have a certain antipathy toward overly selfish and underhanded behavior. She turns on Code when his focus on his vendetta annoys and inconveniences her one too many times, and outright goes against Kawaki's plan to get rid of Boruto with the explanation that she considers his actions cowardly.
  • Exotic Eye Designs: Her irises resemble a crescent moon.
  • Flight: Amado's modifications (namely transplanting from the corpse of Shibai Otsutsuki) have apparently made her more Otsutsuki than human. As a consequence, she can levitate and fly at will like they can.
  • I Love You Because I Can't Control You: Shows this for Boruto and especially Kawaki, who she eventually falls for, due to the two of them being immune to her charm abilities, and the latter becomes her main interest. Due to her Power Incontinence, she's unable to have normal interactions with people. This is used by Shikamaru, who says that if she's not trying to kill them and doesn't like Code, she can just ditch him, which after some consideration she does.
  • Improbable Hairstyle: For some reason, her hair ends with multiple loops at the tips.
  • Leg Focus: The manga puts a lot of emphasis on her legs, showing them in close-up frames. The cover of her official debut has her sitting on a fanservice-y position to show off her legs.
  • Logical Weakness:
    • She can see anything that has happened anywhere in the world within her own lifetime, however, this does not come with the ability to perfectly understand what she is seeing. That is if the details or mechanisms are things she lacks education or intimate knowledge in, she can be fooled or overlook things. This first comes into play when Kawaki reactivates his Karma to everyone's surprise, Eida having not realized until that moment that Amado had designed Kawaki's new arm in such a way that the power of his Karma could be unlocked and regained if Kawaki desired it enough. What she sees is also "seen" as if she were looking at it from a outside viewer's perspective with normal eyes, so if what she is looking for is too small to see then she won't be able to find it.
    • Chapter 68 reveals another limit, namely she can't see conversations that take place on spiritual planes of reality, like using telepathy.
    • Her charm ability also has a weakness in that so long as someone opposing her is not trying to harm her then their attack can work (such as the shadow paralysis jutsu). That said, should she directly tell someone to stop, they will eventually have to.
  • Luminescent Blush: Blushes furiously when both Kawaki and Boruto demonstrate the depths they will go to in order to protect what they hold dear, wanting them for herself even more. Being in Kawaki's presence has her blushing nonstop, having her be at a loss for words. Strangely, she's able to speak just fine with Boruto, implying that she finds Kawaki more attractive.
  • Magical Eye: She is introduced with a new doujutsu, the Senrigan. When in use, the sclera of her eyes turns black and 3 dots appear in it.
  • Meaningful Name: While the English version spells her name as Eida, it is likely her name comes from Ada Lovelace, the first computer programmer. It makes sense in the context that Amado turned Eida into a cyborg.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Next to Delta, Eida is one of the most offering views in Boruto, from her alluring femme fatale vibes, to her long bare legs.
  • Non-Action Big Bad: Eida herself states that she knows a little bit of taijutsu, but that's as far as her fighting ability goes, and she also views fighting as barbaric. Being a walking Charm Person, she doesn't have to fight at all. Her younger brother Daemon, however, would protect her in case someone is actually able to try to harm her or annoys her too much.
  • Oh, Crap!: Eida is genuinely startled when one of the now sapient Divine Trees reveals that he knows she's watching them and plans to consume her, even if she doesn't outwardly show fear.
  • Occult Blue Eyes: Eida has blue eyes with ring models on her irises, which is linked to her ability of seeing the past and around the world, called Senrigan.
  • Pet the Dog: Eida does have some heart underneath her cold personality, shown in Chapter 80 when she feels some remorse and apologizes to Boruto for subconsciously changing his and Kawaki's lives via her Omnipotence. She also promises Boruto not to look for him with her Senrigan during his time away from Konoha even if Kawaki and Shikamaru ask her to.
  • Power Incontinence: Much to her anguish, she can't turn her powers off. This leads to her being rather indifferent to the world and its people, as she can't know if anyone actually cares about her, and being constantly exposed to everything means she has to deliberately ignore most of it and only be aware of things she intentionally looks for.
  • Reality Warper: The true nature of her "charm" power, it is simply a subconscious minor use of the greatest shinjutsu in existence, one called Omnipotence. Momoshiki describes it as a power gods used to create entire worlds in the past, implying it can outright create matter, but so far its use has only effected minds and emotions. With Eida her desire to be loved causes everyone to be charmed by her, while when Kawaki accidentally invoked the power in her via his own desires to escape his circumstances, the effect caused everyone on the planet who knew of them to have their memories rewritten to have Boruto and Kawaki switch places in their mind (everyone now believes that Kawaki is Naruto's first born son while Boruto is an outsider whom Naruto adopted into his family). This effect is so strong that even when Sasuke thinks about the discrepancies between the false memories and reality, his mind still tries to brush them off. There are some who are immune to this mental effect, namely people who are Otsutsuki or biologically similar to one, as well as some other cases (Sarada and Sumire) that have not yet been explained. Only a true Otsutsuki who had ascended to godhood could actually control this power, hence why Eida cannot control it and only uses it in a comparatively weak manner.
  • Seers: With certain limitations, she has clairvoyance as another power via her Senrigan. She can see anything anyone is doing anywhere in the world at any given time, as well as look into the past. However, she cannot see into the future, nor can she see anything in the past that happened before she was born.
  • The Stoic: Eida is always calm, with a cold and indifferent disposition justified due to her Charm ability and Daemon's protection meaning she has little reason to think that she'll ever be in danger or need to struggle to get anything.
  • Superpower Lottery: Amado's experiments gave her multiple abilities she can do effortlessly that are beyond capabities of any known ninja techniques, with the only cost being annoyingly permanent. She's The Omniscient on a world level and can spy on conversations happening in another country or even in the past. She's a long-range Charm Person, making almost anyone who sees her unable to intentionally cause her harm, at minimum. She's also capable of Flight. Additionally, her brother and bodyguard Daemon is incredibly strong in raw combat alone. Code and Shikamaru note it's fortunate her motives are mundane, as she's in effect nearly unstoppable.
  • Villainesses Want Heroes: As a result of their partial-Otsutsukification, both Kawaki and Boruto are immune to Eida's ability to steal hearts. For Eida, this can mean one of them could feel genuine things for her, so she can romance any of them, regardless if either wants it or not, while the other will die being sacrificed by Code. Of course, the implications are as creepy as possible, quoting Bug: "It's almost like a human trafficking transaction... ". When Shikamaru proposes that she can have both for herself if she ditches Code and drops revenge on Amado, she quits Kara.
  • Weirdness Censor: One aspect of her Omnipotence shinjutsu is that while it will not cause people to outright not see things that contradict rewritten memories, it will cause their minds to actively reject those contradictions as being important. Sasuke notes that even as he thinks about how Boruto's appearance contradicts his memories, his thoughts increasingly become less and less bothered by this. This is detailed further in Blue Vortex where Sarada recalls how people like Shikamaru initially did heavily question the many contradictions that resulted from their rewritten memories (such as Kawaki having a body full of Scientific Ninja Tools and no sign of Momoshiki in him), only to have the effects of Omnipotence gradually erase such doubts. Taken even further when it is revealed that the mere existence of the Omnipotence power is automatically erased from normal human minds shortly after they are told about it, meaning that any effort to convince someone their memory has been rewritten must rely on something other than explaining what Omnipotence is. If someone does manage this, they will be able to retain the knowledge their memories are wrong, but the knowledge of Omnipotence itself will remain out of their grasp.
  • Younger Than They Look: Downplayed, Eida has an appearance that could pass for a fully grown woman, but she is actually 16 years old in Part 1. She doesn't appear to have changed much in Part 2 (where she is approximately 19-20), if at all, and her brother certainly hasn't.

    Daemon

Daemon

Voiced by: Yumiri Hanamori

Debut: Boruto Chapter 59 (Manga), Boruto Episode 289

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/daemon1.png

Eida's little brother. As a child, he's loud and excitable, but he's fiercely protective of his older sister. Declaring himself his sister's "knight", Daemon provides the muscle for Eida. No, really, don't let his age fool you; thanks to Amado's transplants he has strength that exceeds Jigen’s, making him one of the strongest characters to date.

  • Attack Reflector: When being attacked by someone with a killing intent, any damage that might otherwise have been inflicted on Daemon or those under his protection, will instead be inflicted on the attacker themselves. Even simply thinking of a killing attack strongly enough will cause damage to occur. The results aren't pretty. Bug claims a weakness of his ability: Daemon must be touching others with his hands for the reflecting to take place. Code tries to take advantage of this by moving as fast as possible and teleporting around... which amounts to nothing as Daemon simply moves faster and smashes his opponent into the ground and walls through sheer strength. Amado later clarifies that touching is only necessary if Daemon wants to transfer the specific damage an attack would inflict onto another person, the attack reflecting works regardless.
  • Badass Boast: A smug, chilling one as he beats up Code, who had his limiters released:
Daemon: You said earlier..that you felt like you couldn't lose to anyone. Or something like that. That was hilarious...You do seem stronger than Jigen...so neither Hokage nor Uchiha should be trouble. But that's all. Who's second or third...doesn't matter to number one...ME.
  • Because You Are Nice To Me: Daemon is pretty chill with Boruto compared to Kawaki as the former treats him just like an ordinary bratty kid, unlike other people who see him as a monster. That's Daemon's smugness is dialed a bit whenever he interacts with Boruto.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Inverted. Daemon is Eida's younger brother, but not only is he extremely protective of her, his abilities are literally designed to protect her.
  • Blood Knight: Loves dishing out pain and flaunting his abilities, relishing the opportunity to show off and fight.
  • Creepy Child: On one hand, he doesn't seem to be older than Himawari, and is loud, easy to excite, a bit naïve, and even seems to have taken a liking in Code. On the other hand, he is capable of reflecting any kind of attack, and gleefuly smirks at the thought of killing someone. His facial expressions also tend to emphasize the creepy vibe that he has.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle:
    • Gives an epic and brutal one to Code. This is after Code got his limiters removed, and even revealing Daemon's supposed weakness to his ability does nothing, as Daemon makes up for it through sheer power alone.
    • In chapter 74, he quickly defeats both Kawaki and Boruto in a single hit each, despite the former wielding Isshiki's abilities. To add insult to injury, he does this without relying on his reflecting powers, using nothing but his raw strength and speed.
  • Dragon-in-Chief: To his sister Eida, who serves as her bodyguard.
  • Establishing Character Moment:
    • He is introduced jumping on the back of a frankly perplexed Code, excitedly asking all sorts of questions about the relationship between him and Eida, before single-handedly killing every guard who comes to stop their breakout.
    • In-universe, he does this to both Boruto and Kawaki when they meet for the first time, with Daemon quickly establishing the pecking order in their relationship by essentially threatening them with beatdowns and death if they ever get out of line.
  • Exotic Eye Designs: Much like his sister, his eyes do not look normal at all, with purple irises and yellow pupils. It's unclear if he also posses a doujutsu to couple with it.
  • If You Ever Do Anything to Hurt Her...: He almost says it word for word when threatening Code in their first meeting. He gives this same threat to both Kawaki and Boruto, stating that if they were to attack and betray Eida, he will not hesitate to put them in their place. Both boys are unhappy about this, thinking that he's just an arrogant brat... until they are both beaten unconscious.
  • Invincible Villain: He arrogantly declares that no one can match up to his abilities, not the Hokage, not the Uchiha, not the Otsutsuki, and not even a fully powered and released Code. This is quite the predicament for the heroes; that a bloodthirsty brat with god-like power is a potentially more dangerous threat than Code. In every one of his appearances that has him fighting, Daemon has not lost to any of his opponents, not even a fully released Code and Kawaki with Isshiki's abilities. He treats each one of his scuffles as though its a game and has the biggest shit-eating grin plastered on his face, since he knows it's only a matter of time before he wins.
  • Let's Get Dangerous!: At first, he seems like little more than a hyperactive child, but when guards try to kill him, his sister, and Code, we get to see first hand why Eida calls him her "knight".
  • Lightning Bruiser: Daemon is not only incredibly strong, he proves to be incredibly fast, rendering counter-strategies of avoiding close combat ineffective.
  • Logical Weakness: In Chapter 71, Bug mentions to Code that Daemon needs to touch others with his hands in order for actions to be reflected (it doesn't seem to matter if he is touching the person attacking him, so long as he is in physical contact with someone the power activates), which may serve as a potential weakness for his ability.
  • Power Incontinence: Like his sister, his reflective powers work independent of his will and he can't turn them off. To the point that he doesn't even need to be aware of his surroundings for them to work.
  • Punch Catch: Daemon effortlessly catches Boruto's punches, both of his arms, then knocks him out with his own punch.
  • Satellite Character: Daemon is pretty much inseparable from Eida and acts like an immensely powerful bodyguard for his sister, showing no other motives besides that.
  • Slasher Smile: Sports this when he gets into a fight, taunting Code when he beats him down. This happens again when he meets Boruto and Kawaki, ending with their humiliating defeats.
  • Smarter Than You Look:
    • He gives off the impression of being an Unskilled, but Strong brat, but in Blue Vortex Chapter 3, he's the first to realize Boruto is making use of the planet's rotation for his Rasengan Uzuhiko.
    • He points out that the Claw Grimes are actively looking for Naruto, which means people will eventually realize Naruto is actually alive and that Boruto didn't kill him.
  • Smug Super: He’s very confident that everyone before him, Otsutsuki or not, will fall before his might. Considering that he absolutely demolishes Code in battle, after he got his limiters removed, and any harmful intent and action will be reflected, he has every right to be arrogant. Both Boruto and Kawaki do not appreciate being forced to listen to a bratty kid who relishes in taunting them and has the power to back up his threats.
  • Troll: Daemon goes out of his way to be a complete dick to anyone he interacts with, except for Eida. Knowing that the victim will only hurt themselves if they choose to retaliate thanks to his ability. Chapter 75 shows him taunting Boruto and Kawaki after Amado explains his abilities for everyone; out of nowhere, Kawaki's head is smacked to the side after glaring at each other for a while. Daemon condescendingly laughs at him for it.
  • Worthy Opponent: Daemon becomes fond enough of Boruto to consider him one by Chapter 80, wanting him to become strong enough in order to fight at full power for the first time in his life.

    Ten-Tails (Kara)

Ten-Tails (Kara)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ten_tails_kara.png

A second Ten-Tailed Beast that is revealed to exist under a grand pedestal as a captive in Isshiki's dimension. It is merely a juvenile Ten-Tails when it is first introduced.

  • Almighty Idiot: Much like the old Ten-Tails, this one too has no intelligence of its own and is just a beast. A beast that’s capable of destroying a planet under the right circumstances.
    • Eventually this trope is completely subverted when the Ten-Tails uses the power of those who are sealed within its trees to escape the chakra rods all on its own and separates itself into different "Shinju", each one taking on a more malevolent appearance and personality based on the imprisoned victims. The leader seems to resemble Jigen/Isshiki, indicating that they can take on the form of posthumous characters as well, provided they have taken in chakra from them at some point. It notes that thanks to Code's tampering with its body, self awareness awakened in them, and they now can do more than just instinctively devour chakra.
  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: Not as much as last time, but this Ten-Tails is still pretty big.
  • Big Bad: Instantly dethrones Code as soon as it gains full sentience, splitting more of itself up into "Shinju", with the leading member resembling Jigen or Isshiki.
  • Body Horror: The way Code resizes it into smaller and more useful pieces consists of wrapping it in his claw marks and then squeezing it to the point that pieces of its body fall off and then turning into humanoid beings.
  • Botanical Abomination: The Ten-Tails is ultimately a seed for a God Tree.
  • The Dreaded: It may be a smaller and currently weaker specimen due to only being a juvenile (at least before Two Blue Vortex), but the 5 Kages and the shinobi world at large still regard this Ten-Tails as an absolute menace, one that must be dealt with as soon as possible.
  • Dragon Ascendant: Once it evolves enough to escape the rods on its own and separates itself, the Shinju deem Code to be useless and a clown for their entertainment.
  • Eldritch Abomination: Let's see... a creature that doesn't resemble anything on Earth, check. Has immense power, check. Its reason to exist and true purpose is nothing that one would normally imagine, check.
  • Exotic Eye Designs: This Ten-Tails too possess a single red eye, with multiple concentric rings and 6 tomoe.
  • Evil Is Not a Toy: Notably, this specimen is imprisoned under a pedestal in Isshiki's dimension, and chakra rods pin down each of its tails. Presumably, this Ten-Tails was too dangerous for Isshiki to just let it roam freely while he was inside the weak body of Jigen; if not too dangerous to be let free in general.
    • In chapter 2 of Two Blue Vortex Boruto himself tells Code that he doesn't understand the true terror of the Ten-Tails, and implies that by separating it into the Claw Marks he ended up making them, and the Ten-Tails they originate from, more dangerous than previously thought. This comes to fruition a few chapters later when the Ten-Tails reveals it has become sapient.
  • Facial Markings: This specimen too, has black vein-like markings extending from its eye.
  • Living Weapon: Given that it has no intelligence, it's obvious that it can also serve as this. Then it gains a scary amount of intelligence.
  • Painful Transformation: Being literally split apart isn't a pleasant experience.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Several massive levels compared to before, indicating it may also be reaching maturity. It was previously unable to break free from the chakra rods, but gaining enough power from the efforts of the Claw Marks allows it to break out anyway and seemingly divide itself.
  • Uniqueness Decay: A downplayed example. In Boruto: The Movie, it‘s shown that different God Trees can and have existed elsewhere; therefore the existence of multiple Ten-Tails was the next step. It's a downplayed example because this Ten-Tails is a different, smaller and (for now) implied-to-be weaker specimen than the one seen in Naruto, which is understandable since it's only a juvenile. It’s still regarded as a very big threat all the same. It seems to have grown significantly in many different ways inTwo Blue Vortex without even needing to appear larger.
  • Uplifted Animal: Because of Code's tampering with its body and its victims being assimilated into trees, the Ten-Tails becomes intelligent and sapient enough to escape its bonds and divide itself into humanoid beings called the Divine Trees, allowing them to usurp Code as the Big Bad. The Ten-Tails even evolves to the point of overcoming its instinctual need to eat an Ōtsutsuki.

They devour Otsutsuki. Well, in truth... they're beasts, that'll just instinctively bite anybody in the vicinity... until they eventually run into an Otsutsuki.

Fission beings created by Code by forcibly splitting the Ten-Tails into smaller pieces in order to be more manageable, inadvertely setting up its evolution.

  • Body Horror: They are generated by Code using his claw marks to split off chunks of the original body of the Ten-Tails.
  • Botanical Abomination: If they bite someone, they turn into trees that trap the target while keeping him alive.
  • Humanoid Abomination: They have a more human like shape, although they also lack eyes, have a tail, and three-toed feet. Eventually, this will cause a more evolved variant of Claw Grime to appear, resembling the person trapped into the tree.
  • Eyeless Face: They all lack eyes on their faces. Even when the claw marks do not cover their faces in the places where eyes should be present. That being said, at least one Claw Grime did manifest a Rinnegan in chapter 2 of Two Blue Vortex. Presumely, he was a stronger variant compared to other Claw Marks.
  • Teleportation Spam: They have the ability to teleport through the claw marks that cover their bodies, as well as thtough those created by Code.
  • Suddenly Speaking: In chapter 2 of "Two Blue Vortex" a Claw Grime grabs Kawaki and calls him an "Otsutsuki", showing how dangerous they are becoming and foreshadowing that the Ten-Tails is becoming sapient.

    Divine Trees

Divine Trees

Debut: Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 4 (Manga)

Chakra. All life on a planet... both present as well as past and long dead. We divine trees exist to suck the chakra out of all living things and form a chakra fruit. At least, that was our original driving instinct. But Code... we appear to have evolved a bit... thanks to you awakening self awareness in us.

The result of the Ten-Tails gaining sapience, splitting off into multiple beings that resemble pre-existing people thanks to either the chakra of the planet, or the people trapped into the trees.

  • Big Bad: Jura, the leader of the Divine Trees and presumably the main consciousness of the Ten Tails, claims the role from Code.
  • Bishōnen Line: Obviously, as their appearences are based on pre-existing people, therefore they look more human than ever, and they also have some form of clothing.
    • They do however, retain some monstrous traits like inhuman feet. And some have less defined traits that make them look more monstrous.
  • Evil Doppelgänger: They copy the looks and powers of whomever falls victim to a Claw Grime, gaining complete sapience in the process, but not necessary a moral compass too. Their goal is to hunt down the people their hosts are strongly attached to.
  • The Leader: The Divine Tree resembling Jigen, Jura, appears to be in charge of the rest of them, who resemble Bug, Moegi, and Sasuke.
  • Poke in the Third Eye: The currently unnamed Divine Tree resembling Bug decides to go after Eida, but not before he takes the time to let her know that he's well-aware that she's watching them, something that actually scares Eida.
  • Suddenly Speaking: After the Ten-Tails divied itself into multiple beings. All of them are fully capable of speech and have awakened sapience.
  • The Starscream: Having gained enough power from Sasuke, Bug, and other imprisoned tree victims, the Ten-Tails frees itself and splits up into the Divine Trees, one of which uses Moegi's appearance and goes by Matsuri, and calls Code a "clown" destined to be used by others.
  • Shapeshifter Weapon: At least 2 of the currently seen ones have shown the ability to morph one of their arms into weapons.
  • Teleportation Spam: They retain the ability to move through the claw marks, and in addition, seem to have gained the ability to generate them too.
  • Took a Level in Badass: They are the culmination of the process that Code himself set off when he created the Claw Grimes. More specifically, they are Claw Grimes that evolved further (if not what remained of the original body of the Ten-Tails, splitting itself into multiple beings) and now bear the appearance of several characters that have either died or been absorbed into trees, especially considering one of them is a twisted version of Sasuke while the leader looks like Jigen or possibly Isshiki.
