Find a Trope:
openStyle and tone trope? Live Action TV
Apart from Special Edition Title (since it's copying a series), what trope would this be:
An episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. copies The Flash (2014) for style and tone right down to method of filming and on-screen series font (I know the series font part is Special Edition Title), and it's not clear if it's a parody or a Whole-Plot Reference. Also, they have Danielle Panabaker making an appearance as a Captain Ersatz or Expy of Killer Frost.
Also what fandom trope applies to the audience reaction: Some fans think it's a shameless attempt to copy The Flash (2014), others think it's comedy.
Edited by Merseyuser1openBrief Glimmer of Sanity
I don't even know if this is a trope, I just wanted to check or find another example to see if it's worth a TLP try. Is there a trope for a situation where a character is totally off their rocker, being a complete psychopath or whatever, but then something happens that makes them go back to bone-chillingly sane and rational for a few moments?
The only example I can think of is the end of The Killing Joke; where Batman is pleading with Joker to let him help him and for that one fleeting moment, Joker actually seems to honestly consider it and feels sorry that he can't before he returns to himself.
Sanity Ball seems to apply to just the Only Sane Man in a world of other crazier people. Is there a Played for Drama version of it, like a "sanity breaking through madness" sort of trope?
openJack-o'-lantern smile
When a character is drawn in a way their mouth is outlined by their teeth instead of lips, usually in a triangular, Jack-o'-lantern-y way.
For example, Random!Blitzwing from Transformers Animated

Edited by WaveBlasteropenRepeat with EMPHASIS
Someone emphatically repeats something he just said to make a point that it's important.
For example, Alice asks Bob a direct question. Rather than give a direct answer, Bob spouts a few lines of bullshit until Alice asks the question again but louder, making it clear that she wants an answer NOW.
openAppearance Trope
Is there a trope about white, sleeveless undershirts being associated with abusers, alcoholics, and jerks?
openTwin Reveal
A character is revealed to have a twin for dramatic effect. I couldn't find a trope for it, so I wanted to check here before I took it to TLP.
- Beerfest: Parodied with "Landfill" Phil's identical twin brother Gil. After Landfill drowns in a tub of beer, his brother arrives as a Deus ex Machina, revealing himself to be superiorto Phil in every way and taking his spot on the team. They even agree to just continue calling him "Landfill", thus acting like the previous Landfill's death never even happened.
- House of Wax (2005): The murderous formerly conjoined twins are revealed to have a fraternal triplet, the man who was luring travellers to the house off the road.
- Gravity Falls:
- "Not What He Seems": Stan is revealed to have been working on a teleporter to bring back his twin brother. The others are understandably shocked.
- "Dungeons, Dungeons, and More Dungeons": Parodied in the Show Within a Show, Duck-tective, where the titular character is revealed to have an Evil Twin in the season finale. Nobody is impressed, considering it a cheap and lazy plot twist. Soos even says he predicted it a year ago.
openOver the edge
Is there a trope that covers when someone is just on the edge of an emotional state and and one thing, whether that be something they see, a single word, or action, pushes them over that edge.
I know this could fall under berserk button but that only covers rage and doesn't necessarily need the character to be in any kind of emtional state. Same thing with Despair event horizon as it only covers one emotional state.
I guess an example could be in Fairy Tail when it becomes clear that Natsu will become E.N.D. its just a matter of time but what pushes him over is him thinking Lucy is dead.
Edited by Lord-JaricopenSupport at a critical moment
In a combat situation, Alice is making an attack, maybe to finish the fight and/or in a small window of opportunity to reach Bob. Bob prepares a counter-action, but is kept off-balance by support from Charlie in the form of an attack or restraining move launched at Bob, a defense from the counterattack for Alice, or otherwise. This support comes as a surprise because the focus has been off Charlie, but it's not The Cavalry because Charlie has been there the whole time.
Is there a trope for this?
openWhich does this fall under?
This was under Trivia. My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic S 9 E 19 Dragon Dropped:
- Call-Back: Rarity sadly looking to her reflex on a mulfaceted gem could be one to Van Ripper's popular Sparity fancomic adaptation of the fanfiction Like Fine Wine, what also examines Spike and Rarity's relationship and have a similar scene.
I removed it as misuse of Call Back. Would this be Ascended Fanon (does it have to be more unambiguously intentional?) or Hilarious in Hindsight?
openMood Switcher
A character who goes from one mood to another in an instant (but does so deliberately, unlike the Mood-Swinger).
In Solatorobo, Elh goes from piteous orphan begging the guard to get her Orphan's Plot Trinket back, and as soon as he's out of hearing, goes right back to her previous Emotionless Girl state, shocking the main character with how fast she goes from one extreme to the other.
openreal life celebrity happens to look like another real life celebrity
Is there a trope for this?
openNeurotic people get motion sickness easily?
What's with this trope? And it's not Stress Vomit, just ordinary motion sickness.
openNo Title
Alice joins the team, and Bob trusts her. Some time later, it is revealed (for both the audience and the team) that Alice was actually The Mole, she never truly liked the team and was actually working secretly for their enemies. Can Bob be considered a Horrible Judge of Character for failing to detect her duplicity, or is that a trope misuse?
openWorld of woobies
Is the a trope for a work where almost everyone is The Woobie to some degree (including the bad guys)?
openBudding Romance
Two friends who eventually start dating are shown falling for each other.
opencrown of flames
A character has "crown" of flames around their head. Typically the flames don't hurt them and are just to look cool.
openCute Apocalypse
Sugar Apocalypse describes when a Sugar Bowl environment is subjected to an apocalyptic event. But is there a trope for when an apocalyptic event itself is ridiculously cute? Like a giant kitten causing destruction as it wanders through the town, pouncing on cars, sharpening its claws on buildings, and causing news helicopters to crash because the pilot was distracted by the way it started sneezing after getting sprayed by a destroyed fire hydrant. Does not necessarily require a Sugar Bowl setting.
Edited by BattleMasteropenIs this case a Morph Weapon or Shapeshifter Weapon?
In the example I'm thinking of, the character can control his own shadow, but the shadow takes a 3-D, solid form. Said shadow can change its shape to whatever the user wants and can even detach from his body. He most commonly uses it as a blunt object, like a stick or a baseball bat. He cannot control any shadow except his own.
Is this a Morph Weapon or a Shapeshifter Weapon? That is, does this character's shadow count as part of his body or is it considered separate?
Edited by ZombieAladdinopenAbsurd Overkill
A character is killed by a ridiculously overpowered attack, either by a Wave-Motion Gun, More Dakka, or being cut into chicken nuggets by an Absurdly Sharp Sword.

Cells at Work! CODE BLACK was originally intended to be used as a promotion tool for Cells at Work!, so the Anthology Comic publisher just gave it 10 weeks' serialization. However, its reception was good enough that it was changed to be an ongoing series (through the use of a Surprisingly Good Ending), although not without a hiatus (so that they can end another series to give room for it).
It doesn't sound like Un-Cancelled nor Only Barely Renewed, but what is it?
