Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread

openUseful Notes on Ceres
I think I recall someone discussing this a while back, but it apparently didn't go anywhere, so I'll bring up the topic again. Would anyone mind if I made a Useful Notes page regarding the dwarf planet of Ceres? It has been featured in media a decent number of times and I feel like I could write something like that without too much trouble.
openPerma-locked pages that should be cut
i was looking at Locked Pages and i saw several pages that aren't permitted to exist by current site rules. im going to list them here.
- YMMV.Reddit - YMMV page for a website
- YMMV.Lily Orchard - YMMV page for a creator
- YMMV.The Red Pill - YMMV page for a website
- YMMV.Tumblr - YMMV page for a website
i think the proper thing to do is to cutlist them and request their removal from the Locked Pages page, which is itself locked. can a locked page be cutlisted without moderator permission?
Edited by razorrozar7openDiploRaptor
DiploRaptor has been around for a while, but their edit history mainly consists of them editing their own LP page with terrible grammar and English. They also made a bunch of subpages about themselves and just made a podcast page that looks purely like them advertising it.
To be honest, I don't even know where to start.
openamerican dream Film
hey tropers
i'm trying to come up with a more nuanced list of 'american dream' tropes, along the lines of white picket fence
any suggestions from the experts?
thanks
openD20 Rebirth
First of all, we already have TabletopGame.D 20 Rebirth. Today, NTC3 created DarthWiki.D 20 Rebirth and added it to Unpublished Works.
Both page are about the same game system, but if the Darth Wiki one is right then it's indeed an unpublished work.
I don't think we need both pages but what should we do? Redirect or cut? Which one?

I accidentally created duplicate threads in the TRS when trying to edit the opening post. Can the mods please delete the first two? Thanks
open Two events that qualify for a MEH
Let's say that a character is introduced in a work. They do something so evil, it can be considered a Moral Event Horizon. Then a prequel to said work is released, said character is in the prequel, and they again do something that can be considered a MEH.
Is a character's MEH determined by their debut production-wise, or their first in-universe appearance?
openDaughters of Ash Canon Defilement entry
I previously deleted this Canon Defilement entry on Dark Souls: Daughters of Ash for seemingly being composed of fanon instead of explicit canon.
- Canon Defilement: While the mod does try to avoid this trope, it unfortunately plays this straight regarding quite a bit of the lore (especially with things from 2' and 3). One example is about Ariamis, where in Dark Souls III, the Painter is implied to be Ariamis. This mod instead has The Gaping Dragon who was implied to been once Ariamis after his hunger overtook him. However, take this with a grain of salt, as the tidbit regarding the former may not be true.
- The sheer absurdity of Dusk, one of the most genuinely nice characters in the series, being Evil All Along is a major one.
- Another massive one is Gywnevere being sacrificed to the first flame by Gywn. Not only does it completely clash with Gywn's Marty complex, and Determinator nature, 3 all but states that she survived the events of the game, and went on to become the Queen of Lothric.
- Just how did the Silver Knight armor not blacken even though it was burnt by the flames of chaos/the linking of the First Flame, again?
To make it short, "Painter is Ariamis" and "Gwynevere was the Queen of Lothric" are fanon, Silver Knight armor not blackening is a plot hole. The only entry that may count is the "Dusk is evil" one.
Then bigbossbalrog restored the entry unchanged, stating that "They all count, and a very common criticisms aimed at the mod." Except that the reason I deleted the entry was because at least two of the entries were based on completely false information.
Permission to delete the Ariamis, Gwynevere, and Silver Knight entries again?
Edited by Albert3105openMiniforce X?
So recently a sequel series to Miniforce has been made called Miniforce X (미니특공대 X), and even more recently SAMG has been uploading English-dubbed episodes to their Youtube channel. Netflix already has "Miniforce X" on their autofill system, indicating that SAMG might release the show separately from the previous Miniforce show on the service in America too.
It does make me wonder, though, if a separate page for Miniforce X should be made, or tropes for that season should just be listed on the Miniforce page (on a separate section or combined). Miniforce X seems to share direct continuity with the previous series, rather than being a Continuity Reboot. The main characters even still live with Suzy and still cause her grief. Though the main set of villains is new, right after Pascal's defeat. And the Miniforce do have redesigned ranger suit and robot car designs. Then again, the prequel movie Miniforce: New Heroes Rise is on a separate article despite also sharing continuity with the show.
But also, Korean Wikipedia treats Miniforce and Miniforce X as two seasons of the same show, so there's that
And I don't know if I'll want to make such an article or section alone either way. My life has higher priorities and worries than keeping tabs on a silly children's Korean animated show about animals who henshin into Sentai suits to fite robots and villains. But I figured I'd at least get this question out of the way once and for all.
Edited by fergzillaopenShould I or not?
This thread is basically a follow up to my previous ATT thread. I'm about to add some context to my Alstroemeria Records recommendations on AwesomeMusic.Touhou Other Works, but does me editing those examples right now count as an Edit War? If so, then how long do I have to wait until I can edit those examples again and add context?
openSuggestion
I don't know if there is a dedicated place for website suggestions, but I think that there should be an option added while editing pages, where you can see how your edit will show up in the History.
This way, if you accidentally edit something unrelated what you mean to edit, you can see it before making the change.
It also means that you know for sure everything you have edited so far during your edit.
Edited by pikachu17openShared text on multiple work pages
What, if anything, should be done with work pages that plagiarize(??) each other?
As listed on a Roleplay cleanup thread post, more than a dozen pages in the Roleplay/ namespace have entries that match word-for-word. Picking two of those pages arbitrarily and using Diffchecker shows that (along with several violations of example writing policies) at least 15 lines have been duplicated across those pages.
I intend to cut list the pages that blatantly state they're not for the public to view, but that still leaves several standing.
open(Another) Troper with indentation problems
I sent Grug16 a notifier for example indentation last month. They are still having issues.

Here's the latest violation.
openBroken Aesop question
- Broken Aesop: Partially. Anti-bigotry was one of the themes this series is going for, considering that it decries the horrible treatment of the Norma by the Mana people, and the story is about the Norma fighting against their oppression and gaining freedom. Part of Ange's Character Development is about learning not to judge others, and that Norma are people too. But on the other hand, the majority of the Mana people were designed as Hate Sink unless they managed to rise above their prejudice and bigotry (it is possible, as it happened to Momoka and Emma, later on), making the event where Embryo destroys Mana and leaves the Mana people to fend for themselves and Ange refusing to help them since they still clung to the old prejudice and bigotry looks more like a well-deserved Laser-Guided Karma. The show did convey that bigotry is bad; in a way that if you either rise above it or fight against it, you're good, but if you cling onto it, you deserve some karmic hammer drop onto you, but the sight of the oppressed delivering those to the Mana users might cause some cracks on the Aesop.
Can Broken Aesop even be partial? It's not YMMV so it could be played with. If it can't be Played with shouldn't it be YMMV? Is there some other Aesop trope this could fall under.
openNo Title
I'm not sure if Josephlu 2021 knows what TV Tropes is for. Their only work so far has been to create their own page about... something and to also make a nonsense TLP draft about it.
openTroper with indentation and natter problems.
Eggo Mainiac Sometimes adds natter instead of context, and also has indentation issues. I sent a notifier for indentation last month.
Recent examples:
- https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/article_history.php?article=VideoGame.Fallout1#edit23662688 - Putting a second trope as a sub-bullet to another trope.
- https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/article_history.php?article=Literature.TheSheik#edit23827178 - See their Going Native addition, adding a second example to a first-level bullet.
- https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/article_history.php?article=WesternAnimation.SonicSatAM#edit23818183 - Uses the "See other trope entries for more details" verbiage that we are supposed to avoid.
openEditor with natter issues
(Not the usual subject line this time!) CrocodileDoneDeal has a persistent habit of adding incorrectly indented natter and/or contesting/justifying edits to pages - and they also have a weak grasp on the wiki's formatting guidelines and routinely omit punctuation marks at the end of entries. I've sent them notifiers for indentation and natter but wondered if more action might be needed.

On LauncherOfAThousandShips.Animated Films, why does a Flame Bait symbol appear in the Treasure Planet example next to "Dimitri"? It potholes to Anastasia, which isn't Flame Bait.
- Treasure Planet: Just take a look around YouTube or DeviantArt for Jim Hawkins; the poor kid's been paired with nearly every heroine in theatrical animation (and some of the guys); among them, Ariel, Audrey and Kayley, the three most popular crossover girlfriends for him and Dimitri seeming to be the most popular boyfriend, which is not even getting into the OCs. Jim works especially well because he is one of the few Disney protagonists not to suffer from Artistic Age. He looks and acts like a 14-16note year old, which makes him old enough to ship with late teen and adult characters but also young enough to ship with early teen and preteen characters.
