I don't think it counts as an edit war to add context to a ZCE.

I'm asking this because mlsmithca commented out my examples a few days ago, so I'm afraid that if I edit them to add context, I may instigate an edit war unintentionally based on the rules.

Pretty sure this does not qualify as an Edit War. Zero-Context Examples are hidden specifically so that the editor can fix them later.

I might suggest an edit reason declaring you're trying to add context. See least with that it can be assumed you're editing in good faith.

That or PM ~mlsmithca ahead of time so they know what you're doing.

It would likely constitute edit warring if you uncommented the examples again without adding context; uncommenting them and adding context is not an edit war by any definition of the term.

Alright, thanks. I'll add context to my examples bit by bit, since there's a lot to break down from those albums I've linked.
