During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.

Specific issues include:

  • Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
  • A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
  • Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
  • Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
  • Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.

It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.

Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.

IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.

When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "[tup] to everyone I missed").

No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.

We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.

What is the Work

Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.

Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?

This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.

Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?

Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.

Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?

Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard

Final Verdict?

Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

Alright, it seems like Benedict is so far a keep, so I'll go ahead and post the write up:

  • Sunset Paradise: Sir Benedict Cumbersnatch is the leader of the Port Aurora Crime Syndicate. Once a powerful crime boss, Benedict attempted to steal the Phoenix Egg to use it ashes to become immortal and make a criminal empire that will last forever, uncaring of the fact that will cause death and ruin to come to Port Aurora, only to be stopped and sealed inside an egg shaped by Sheriff Aloysius Bori, though not before managing to mortally wound the latter. Returning 100 years later, Benedict forms an crime syndicate to help him with his plans, while also ordering the Spud Buds to kill Aloysius' grandson, Auri Bori, just to spite his deceased arch nemesis. When Meggy and Auri interfere with his plans, Benedict has the Funky Fource frame them for attempting to assassinate Mayora Bora, before attempting to kill the duo with an bomb. Upon taking over Port Aurora's lighthouse, causing pain to several children in the process, he has his minions rampage throughout the island, uncaring if anyone gets killed in the process. When confronted by Meggy and Auri, he manages to kill Auri by attempting to shoot Meggy with an laser, forcing Auri to sacrifice himself to save her, before proceeding to gloat about it and attempts to use the ashes to restore himself to his original form and resurrect his criminal empire.

'Yes' to Iris, but eh...lemme just abstain on Benedict.

Alrighty, with Transformers: War for Cybertron Trilogy having concluded its final season, Kingdom, here's the last (for now) update on its Megatron before I do my proposal for another character:

Teaming up with the Predacons from the future and even his own future self Galvatron, Megatron seeks once more to wipe out the Autobots. His bloodthirst and cold cruelty lead him to continue to abuse his own minions, shrug off ways the guilt for his past crimes tries to manifest, and he even flatout, through slip of the tongue, reveals to Optimus Prime that his intention to "restore Cybertron" is so he can do it "In MY image!" When a shocked-not-shocked Optimus points out that he thought Megatron was looking out for the best interests of his people, Megatron just attacks him with relish.

When Starscream tries to convince Megatron to drop his genocidal plans to team up with the Autobots and stop Galvatron, his future self, Megatron just tries to murder Starscream.

Now, Galvatron is a future version of Megatron who was enslaved by the godly Unicron...seeking to avoid this fate, Galvatron has travelled back in time to try to change his past, seeking to use the Allspark to kill Unicron.

Megatron helps Galvatron for a time, hoping to avoid this future as a slave to Unicron, however...in the finale of the show, Megatron—tired of Galvatron trying to rewrite his destiny by using Megatron as a puppet—turns on Galvatron, proclaiming that if the time comes, he'll willingly submit to Unicron, to both avoid being a subjected slave and just to spite Galvatron for trying to make him a tool. Megatron works with the Autobots and other Cybertronians to protect the Allspark from Galvatron and restore Cybertron.

In his final scene, Megatron accepts a...tentative ceasefire with the Autobots now that Cybertron is restored better than ever. Though he refuses to outright ally with the Autobots to rebuild their world, he flatly states that "It's a larger world today. Large enough to sustain us all", and that their war will end....before mumbling under his breath as he departs "For now."

The ending being Megatron relenting his genocidal desire to wipe out Autobots and reshape Cybertron is a bit on the lighter side for his morals, so honestly, I'm not really sure if he still qualifies for the trope. Now, he flatout only turns on Galvatron primarily because he's pissed at him for trying to force Megatron into a tool, and Megatron outright proclaims he'll one day willingly agree to serve Unicron just to spite his future self. The ceasefire could have been a full Heel–Face Turn for Megs, but instead he "only" accepts an end to hostilities, while still he refuses to ally with the Autobots and instead states that their factions can go their separate ways in peace—before muttering to himself with cold smugness "For now."

It's a peaceful ending that Megatron helps make possible, but nothing ever outright overrides the selfish, Not-So-Well-Intentioned Extremist we've seen thus far—he allied with the good guys at least partially out of spite, and once Cybertron was restored and their forces are barely-recuperated, he just decides the best course of action is to step away from the war, while still acknowledging to himself that it's likely just for now, and there's little indicators that he has any intention of dropping his selfish desires of outright conquest even though his supposed WIE "goal" of restoring Cybertron is complete. But he is still peacefully ending a conflict that he had spent the whole show pushing for, to genocidal extremes, so there's likely meant to be more to it than just Pragmatic Villainy.

Very complex character, who goes from having standards and seeming to want the best, to maniacally raving that power is his and he wants things restored in his image... it's just that his "peaceful" departure is played with a bit of genuineness, he just kind of sours it with his "For now." Is it disqualifying? I'm honestly torn. I do lean slightly towards cutting because of it, but the argument is definitely possible that he's not fully disqualified because of it.

Regardless, I'll be proposing his future version, Galvatron, so stay tuned for that.

Its left ambiguous intentionally. So it's hard to say really. I do just lean cut.

Nah shockwave stays. He's killed off real.

Nah i'd argue Unicron has enough character. He just doesn't do much. We don't see him in full action...for now.

All right so it looks like Jeff was voted down, we’ll time for the warden

What’s the work?

Days of Hana is a drama romance WEBTOON that started in 2017 and ended in 2019, the premise is a story about a society of humans and werewolves living together but said werewolves have to be kept under heavy control by the humans due to nearly being extinct after the humans nearly killed them for a virus that was supposedly caused by them. Our main characters are Hana and Haru who have lived together since they were kids and fall in love even though its illegal.

Who is the candidate?

In the latter half of the story Hana’s father finds out that both her and Haru were in love and is disturbed by this, in an emotionally driven decision he has Haru sent to a facility where he’ll be held for the rest of his life. While Haru is there he runs into Choco who was also taken, Choco is eventually seen talking to an old man who Haru quickly recognizes as the man from his dreams, He is shown to be none other than the Big Bad of the WEBTOON The Warden.

What does he do?

In the dreams where he first appears, The Warden is shown chasing down Haru’s mother with her screaming for help, a character by the name chief tells Haru that his mother was being held in a breeding facility where many female werewolves are just being kept there to give birth and nothing else, the warden also killed another werewolf who was assisting her escape, she died shortly after losing Haru.

In the current day, The Warden is shown talking to Choco about returning him to his masters and is seen taking him, Haru immediately lunges at him out of anger and the warden proceeds to shock not just him but every other werewolf in the area just get Haru to stop. Haru is then taken to a prison facility where he and many other werewolves are to be executed on 6 months.

Hana eventually finds him and breaks him free thanks to the chief who sacrifices himself so they can escape, when they do break free Haru and his group find a ditch of dead werewolves who were thrown after presumably dying for malnutrition or were shot to death. After their escape they head to the fighting arena where Jeff is seen with a woman who’s hoping to earn some money from said arena, the warden shows up and asks her what wolf she would want, Both Jeff and the warden recommend Choco, who eventually fights with hook and is killed in the process due to both of them being drugged into a manic state.

When the group gets captured The Warden recognizes Haru as one of the two werewolves who’s mother helped escape, Haru immediately growls at him and he electrocutes him, as Haru shows resistance the warden proceeds to use the maximum shock point to knock him out, one of the people in the group tells the warden that he took photos of the arena and leaked them to the police station, the warden responds by grabbing an assault rifle and shooting him in the stomach, putting him in a critical state. After learning about this, the warden orders for all the werewolves being held captive to be executed, half of them end up dead while the rest of them are saved thanks to hook.

The warden eventually takes both Hana and Haru in a vehicle where he sees that the werewolves who survived are brutally massacring the participants who watched the fights, when the warden sees this he shows no care and instead sees this as an opportunity for the werewolves to be seen as a menace to society, leaving one of the announcers he knew personally for dead as he gets away.

Hana and Haru then wake up in a mansion where the warden lives and it’s shown that he has the head of every type of werewolf on his wall except for one of a heterochromia werewolf which is said fo be extremely rare, after an incident of a werewolf attacking 20 civilians goes public, it’s stated that the reason it happened was because of a new rabies infection that’s supposedly contagious to humans.

The Warden takes glee in hearing this while also revealing that he was the one who took control of the the extermination and was responsible for the werewolves repopulation thanks to his facilities, the werewolves are then taken from their homes and are being prepared to be executed to prevent the spreading of so called infection.

Eventually hook and his fellow werewolves find the wardens vehicle in the mountains, the warden then sends his own werewolves to fight them with only hook remaining after the fight, when hook charges at him, the warden pulls out Haru and threatens to shoot him in the head if hook keeps attacking him, hook stands down and the warden shoots both his legs to remove his mobility and then releases the black bear, a werewolf that he heavily experimented on to match the power of a heteroachroma wolf, the black bear brutalizes hook and nearly kills him until Haru interferes and unleashes his own fury as he’s revealed to be another heterochromia wolf alongside hook.

The Warden tells his own soldiers not to scratch Haru as he wants his head for his collection, a big fight happens where none of them can even touch Haru aside from black bear who Haru proceeds to tear apart, the black bear then turns into his human and begs Haru to kill him and end his suffering, showing that even he was a victim of torture from the warden, Haru kills him and then targets the warden who uses the same maximum shock that he used before only for Haru to break free and then tear him to pieces ending him for good.

Mitigating factors?

None, even the idea of him doing this to protect humanity is absurd as he had no problem shooting a teenager and letting his patrons die.

Heinous standard?

He’s the one who sets it, he’s responsible for all the terrible events that happen to the werewolves, keeping them in facilities where the women are forced to be kept for breeding and the rest of them are executed after 6 months if they have no master, he was also in charge of the previous massacres of werewolves which has happened twice before.

Final verdict?

Definite keep, he’s even called a cm in universe and they aren’t wrong.

Okay, the dude I have in mind is a weird example, and yet another Regular Show villain. That said, this guy's a pretty large scale threat, and he's not at all Played for Laughs despite his comedic quirks.

From Regular Show: The Movie:

Randall Ross

Who Is He?

Big Bad Ross was once Mordecai and Rigby's competitive Gym teacher. On the day of the big volleyball tournament he had been preparing his team for, Rigby walked into the gym and played a saxophone, which distracted the players enough for the other team to score the winning goal.

Needless to say, Ross didn't take it well, and he started building a time machine with stolen Plutonium to go back in time, win the volleyball tournament, and get revenge on a certain bratty Raccoon. Rigby and Mordecai however soon tried to use the machine to go back in time to get better grades after Mordecai was (falsely) rejected a college application. The resulting explosion destroyed the science lab and got Ross sent to jail.

Many years later, Ross had reinvented himself as a time-controlling Evil Overlord and harnessed the Timenado, a phenomena spawned by the machine's explosion, to wipe out all time in the universe, and convinced a vengeful Mordecai to become his lieutenant. The Galactic Park Rangers along with the park crew attacked his ship in an attempt to destroy the Timenado's core, but Ross and his men killed all but Future Rigby, who fled back in time to warn the original park crew before he expired from a blast by Future Mordecai.

The gang goes back in time to the duo's high school years to stop them from using the time machine that created the Timenado. Just when it seems they've succeeded, time portals start puncturing the fabric of reality. Ross had tracked them down and replaces the broken time machine with a spare, ensuring a Timenado is created anyway. He then forces Rigby to read the Rejection letter that reveals he lied about getting accepted and that he forged Mordecai's rejection. Ross takes delight in seeing the friendship destroyed, and tries to torment the raccoon further by murdering Mordecai right in front of him with a bomb. Future Mordecai decides he made a mistake and takes the bomb to the chest to save his past self. Ross is angry for a second, then laughs it off, declaring he's going to wipe out time and blow up the Earth anyway. He leaves through a time portal while giving a mocking impression of Mordecai and Rigby's "OOOOH!" catchphrase.

As a despair ridden Rigby tries to fly the time machine into the sun, the others are enlisted by the Galactic Park Rangers to take out the Timenado before everything is annihilated. Rigby encounters the dying Father Time, who convinces the depressed racoon to join his friends in stopping Ross and fixes the time ship.

Rigby joins Mordecai in throwing the Plutonium into the Timenado's crystal core, but are ambushed by Ross, who at this point refuses to see reason or stop his omnicidal plan. Rigby knocks the madman off a ledge but his Time-collar saves him and he continues to attack the pair. With a little help from Techmo, Rigby cleaves off his head, causing his collar to malfunction and the disembodied Ross to continuously die. Future Ross(head and body) is last seen being pulled into the Timenado, screaming in terror("NOOOO! This hurts way more than I thought it would!") on the way to his Diavolo-esque fate.

The timenado is destroyed, and in the past, young Rigby, knowing the future, earnestly apologizes to Past Mr. Ross before he's arrested. Ross calls off his whole vendetta and the timeline is changed for the better.

Heinousness

Regular Show has many villains, and while most are pretty silly, some are galactic level threats, like Anti-Pops, Streaming/The Internet, and Klorgbane. But Anti-Pops is Made of Evil and is Played for Laughs more often, the evil Internet has little character and it's evil goal to wipe out outdated formats is parody, and Klorgbane is just an all-powerful school bully.

Future Ross, unlike the others, is a human guy who is plotting cosmic Omnicide for an incredibly petty accident one of his students did. It's shown that if the Timenado were left unchecked, it would erase all of time and implicitly wipe out billions of lives, which Randall plans to watch from the comfort of his future space station. The only villain I can name who tried that was Anti-Pops, and he doesn't cut for reasons I mentioned above. When Rigby meets Father Time, the Clock entity is falling apart, meaning that the Timenado can even kill a God.

While he has a hammy, Laughably Evil personality, like Bill Cipher and Syndrome(who Ross is almost an Expy of-their V As even have the same first names!) his monstrous actions aren't Played for Laughs, he takes personal pleasure in destroying Rigby emotionally, and doesn't give a shit when he accidentally kills his right-hand man(and keep in mind, if he killed past Mordecai, Future Mordecai wouldn't be).

Redeeming Qualities

This is where it gets complicated because in the past, Ross was much more reasonable even if he was still a budding supervillain. When Past Rigby apologizes for ruining the Volleyball game, Past Ross decides it was all he needed and forgives the little guy.

Future Ross, on the other hand, is clearly beyond reason. Rigby says that he's sorry during the final fight(even if it isn't as heartfelt) but Ross refuses to forgive him and yells that he worked so hard for that game. Also, this doesn't justify in the slightest committing mass genocide on all existence.

Verdict

It depends if Future and Past Ross are to be taken as one character, or that Ross would still be capable of forgiveness years in the future.

Or if Regular Show is too off the wall for this kind of thing. (Though I could say something like Courage the Cowardly Dog is majorly surreal and wacky as well).
