Old Complete Monster cleanup thread
Welcome to the new Complete Monster (CM) cleanup thread! This thread is where we clean up or cut already-existing entries.
If you're looking to add new entries, please see the approval thread.
IMPORTANT: Before you begin any discussions on this thread, please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List. Here, you'll find explanations of the criteria for the trope as well as our rules/procedures for approving and cutting candidates.
What goes through this thread?
- Cut requests. If you believe a CM has been approved and they do not count, this thread is where you propose their removal. To know how to go about this, please see the FAQ folder on the Administrivia page, where the process is explained in detail.
- If we ever need to consider cutting multiple examples without individually reviewing them (e.g. if we discover widespread plagiarism with a particular troper's CMs), the initial discussion will be on this thread and we'll then escalate to the mod team (as described here) to get a formal consensus if we decide to recommend a mass cut.
- If an entry was put on the wrong subpage/YMMV page, you may propose where they should be moved to.
- Full rewrites of existing entries, including expansions, trims, and ground-up rewrites. If your rewrite is approved by the thread, feel free to add it to the drafts page so that other users can check grammar and the like before it is included with the rest of the weekly swaps.
- If an entry on a work's YMMV page doesn't match the entry on the media subpage, you can bring it here to discuss which entry works better.
What does not go through this thread?
- New candidate proposals - as stated before, those are done on this thread.
- Unapproved wicks - if a Troper encounters either of these kinds of wicks, they can be cut with no approval.
- Any CM link on a non-YMMV page - as a YMMV trope, it should not be linked on those pages regardless of any cleanup effort. The only exception is if the wick is being used within the definition of another trope.
- If an CM link on a YMMV page refers to an unapproved character. If it refers to an approved character on any such page, the wick can stay. On the other hand, if the unapproved character being linked to sounds like they might have promise (and you don't feel like checking it out for yourself), feel free to mention it on the approval thread - someone may already know why they don't count, or it could invite a brand new discussion!
- Proposals for images, quotes, and videos of already-approved CMs - quotes and images are proposed on the approval thread, while videos can be uploaded normally as they are screened for approval by the moderation.
- Crosswicking examples to YMMV pages - if an example has already been approved and added to the main page, you do not require any special permission to add the example to a work's YMMV page (assuming the work has a page already). If a YMMV page doesn't exist yet, then you can make it yourself, but either way, feel free to just add the example without asking.
- Small changes to existing entries - these can simply be done on a Troper's own prerogative with no approval.
- Spelling and grammar fixes.
- Pothole changes.
- Minor rewordings.
- Spoiler tags.
While these changes do not require any kind of approval, it is requested that should you make any of these changes, you do one of the following:
- Make the same changes on the relevant Sandbox page, then add the Sandbox to the list at the bottom of the drafts page. This will add the Sandbox to the weekly swaps and ensure that the edits end up on the relevant locked page. If the Sandbox is already listed, then once you make the edits, your job is already done!
- If you don't know how the Sandboxes work or simply don't have the time to find it, then you can simply post on the thread about the changes you made. Someone else can then make the edit on the relevant Sandbox and add it to the weekly swaps.
- Alternatively, you can simply request that the change be made directly to the locked page on the Locked Pages thread. Members of this thread keep track of that one, so we will ensure that the changes are made in the Sandbox so that it doesn't get deleted during the next swap.
Again, these changes don't require any approval, but we prefer to keep the entries on the YMMV pages and the locked pages the same in order to avoid any miscommunication or errors between entries, so if you do make the change, we would greatly appreciate it if you could ensure the change is made on the locked page as well.
As a final note, we do not care what other sites have to say regarding whether or not a character counts. We have our own criteria and they have theirs for their CM equivalents; while they are similar, they are not exactly the same and should not be treated as such. Another site removing a character from their equivalent should not be a reason why a cut is proposed here, and if this is the case, it will likely lead to mod intervention.
Other than this, once again, welcome to the cleanup thread, and we look forward to your contributions!

@Wrong
I really don't think either of them have any problems. The high heinous standard was discussed in regards to them already.
The First manFWIW, Wiki says "Yau Kin-kwok as Shaho Gang Leader Tong".
CM Dates; CM Pending; CM DraftsLet's try this:
- Once Upon a Time in China:
- First film:
- Jackson, an American dignitary, is a corrupt sociopath who runs a side business selling the Chinese as slaves, especially selling attractive women as prostitutes. Using the Shaho Gang as his personal army of thugs, Jackson orders an attack on the province's governor and hero Wong Fei-Hung at an opera, having his men fire into the crowd of civilians. When confronted by Fei-Hung at the end, Jackson attempts to use the Governor as a hostage while trying to kill Fei-Hung and his friends.
- Tong is the leader of the Shaho Gang, who participates in the massacre at the opera house and abducts innocents to be sold in Jackson's slave trade. Terrorizing the province and murdering at will, Tong also kidnaps Wong Fei-Hung's Love Interest, Aunt 13, and makes clear his intention to rape her. When she fights back, Tong attempts to drag her to a boiler to burn her face off.
- Once Upon a Time in China II: High Priest Kau-Kung, master of the White Lotus sect, leads a crusade against anything even vaguely Western. Having his followers burn every Western item they can find, Kau-Kung even has Western dogs burnt alive before sending his men into the streets to attack and murder those with Western items, technology or clothing. Kau-Kung has his followers attack multiple institutions, including a school for children to learn foreign languages, with Fei-Hung barely saving the lives of the children. He then has the foreign embassies besieged, intending to have every Westerner within massacred along with any Chinese citizen seen as a "collaborator."
- First film:

Feels good, don't it?For a rewrite/expansion: Moff Gideon, known for his war crimes even among the horrible Empire, is a mild-seeming man who helped lead the attack on Mandalore. In what was dubbed the Night of a Thousand Tears, Gideon led a mass slaughter and bombing campaign that saw the abject genocide of Mandalore's population with the survivors scattered, even going back on his word to stop the massacre should Bo-Katan surrender the Darksaber to him. Returning to try to capture the infant force-user Grogu, Gideon tries to harvest the child's blood to help craft a legion of force-sensitive clones and lead a new conquest of the galaxy. Making Mandalore his base, Gideon intends to subjugate the Mandalorians regardless of how many he has to kill in his mad quest for power.
Here's the rewrites for the Fallout baddies, assuming Doc Morbid is staying. My previous entries have too much unnecessary info, way too long for no reason.
- Fallout:
- Morpheus is the psychopathic High Priest of the Children of the Cathedral. Originally a member of the sadistic Rippers, Morpheus left the gang to form his own doomsday cult and jumped at the opportunity to join the Unity. Collaborating with The Master solely for power, Morpheus is responsible for recruiting new soldiers for the Master to use in his war against humanity, brainwashing his followers into believing that being "baptized" in FEV is a good thing. Morpheus has any critic of the Unity assassinated and wants to exterminate the Followers of the Apocalypse for catching on to their plans. If his church is set to explode, Morpheus will quickly run away by himself, abandoning all of his people to die.
- Doc Morbid initially presents himself as merely an arrogant and unpleasant man, but is revealed to be greed personified. As Junktown's resident physician, Morbid offers medical assistance for enormous prices and is the only doctor in the wasteland to force his patients to pay him for the examination. Those who refuse to pay him are murdered by his bodyguards and their bodies are taken to his underground lab, where they are butchered into small pieces and sold to Iguana Bob—the remains are then cooked to look like iguana bits and given to the unsuspecting citizens of the Hub.
- Fallout 3: Eulogy Jones is the most callous crime boss to ever have set foot in the Capital Wasteland. Killing his predecessor to establish his own empire at Paradise Falls, Jones oversees the human trafficking with an iron fist, keeping the slaves in check by installing explosive collars on their necks. Eulogy's cruelty extends to his own personal slaves, whom he abuses and rapes on a regular basis—one was reduced into a subservient sex object suffering from Stockholm Syndrome. More horrific is Eulogy's interest in enslaving children, having kidnapped children from Little Lamplight and planning on kidnapping more to sustain his business.

"No running in the halls!"I like the rewrites
Hope your prepared for an unforgettable luncheonSky: Please add to the appropriate film Sandbox and YMMV. Also, "the Shaho Gang" can be potholed to The Triads and the Tongs.

To the new re-writes
Pothole changes.
- Black Widow (2021): General Dreykov is the man who runs the Red Room. Having abducted or purchased numerous girls, including Natasha and Yelena, Dreykov subjects them to nightmarish training to become "Widows", assassins whom he can use while having murdered Natasha's mother for trying to find her daughter. With horrific training that sees only one in twenty girls survive, Dreykov later turned his injured daughter into a brainwashed assassin after she was scarred and intends to use his Widows to enact enough chaos and death across the world that he might control things from the shadows, viewing each of the Widows he's taken as nothing more than the recycling of a "useless resource" in the girls he corrupts and destroys.

CM Dates; CM Pending; CM DraftsI think we can remove the Boba Fett pothole, season 3 adds enough context (and I think replays the same relevant scenes?) to get the same weight as that episode’s flashbacks.
Can anyone confirm that? If it actually replays the scenes, I'm fine removing that pothole, but if not...
CM Dates; CM Pending; CM DraftsSomethign we may need to discuss...
So, Snow Shark had a deserved CM from General Coy Hall. Few things. First off, Brian Berry has done a sequel that goes completely fucking insane (four words: Snow Shark In Space)
So, Tyk did Hall back when, but...so the general is based on a good friend of author Brian Berry's, author Coy Hall. Like the real Coy Hall, the general has a dog named Duncan who he seems to actually like.
I guess cut Coy then. Always feels weird when a cut like this happens.
(Also sharks in space. I think I need to read these)
REALITY IS AN ILLUSION, THE UNIVERSE IS A HOLOGRAM, BUY GOLD BYEEEE! | She/HerI think cut Snow Shark guy.
An absolutely baffled to cutting the General... I really hate it when someone who should count as a CM gets chopped because of one tiny little Informed Attribute...
Actually... Is this shown on-screen or just talked about? Because if it isn't shown directly in the story then I don't see it as being redeeming due to it's absence from his actual character...
"Us weirdos have to stick together!"Cut the General.
Nothing baffles me more than the OG Injustice Joker cut over one seemingly throwaway line IMO.

I'm sorry what?! When and how?!
"Us weirdos have to stick together!"Hall opens the book with his dog. At the end when he’s heading back to earth he says “I wonder how poor old Duncan is doing!”
Cut Hall from the book with the amazing title.
Injustice Joker was cut because they adapted his Batman & Captain America incarnation's hatred of Nazis. The animated Injustice movie cut that, so that version is still up.

Cut the General
Cut the General.
Feels good, don't it?
Can someone help me sort this out?
