The Princess Swap is one of the many stories under the Choices: Stories You Play collection.

After an accidental meeting, a university student and a princess decide to change places.

It was released on March 25, 2022 for VIP players and released for everybody on May 13, 2022.

The Princess Swap includes examples of:

  • Affectionate Nickname: Anna affectionately calls Daisy pumpkin and in chapter 13, she calls Rose that same nickname without knowing that she is not her daughter.
  • Alliterative Name: Miette Moreau.
  • All Animals Are Dogs: Safiya's pet is a snake named Poppy (short for Apophis), which is usually wrapped in her arm. Rose is terrified after she learns that Safiya has a snake that lives with them.
Daisy: "My roommate Faye runs the Julivert chapter, and then we've got Astra, Safiya, Luna... oh, and Poppy. Safiya's pet snake."
Rose: "You live with a snake?"
    Daisy: "Safiya's trained him well."
Rose: "I don't suppose his best trick is 'lie down'?"
Daisy: "You joke, but he just learned 'play dead' last week."
  • Alpha Bitch: Stephanie Dupont is a toxic girl who makes Daisy's life hell in college and does it to Rose without knowing that she is a princess in disguise.
  • Big Bad: It turns out to be Cecil who tries to sabotage the attempted peace agreement between Monterre and Ismar.
  • Blackmail: In chapter 15, Cecil shows the pictures of Rose walking with Devin on the university campus and in chapter 16, he blackmails Daisy to sabotage Clarke's Farewell Ball, otherwise he will release the photos to the press.
    • Blackmail Backfire: It happens before Clarke proposes to Daisy in chapter 18. The player has the option to either punch him or send him directly to prison after the blackmail is exposed. If Daisy punches Cecil, Edmond himself will take care of sending him to prison.
      (Daisy punches Cecil)
Daisy: "That's for blackmailing me, your jerk!"
      Clarke: "Excelent form."
King Edmond: "Guards, I want this man arrested on the charges of blackmail. Take him away."
  • Character Customization:
    • The player can customize Daisy by choosing her first and last name and ethnicity, which affects Rose, King Edmond and Anna. Daisy and Rose have a matching hairstyle and if the player changes Daisy's hairstyle, Rose's hairstyle does not change.
    • Clarke and Devin can also be customized. The player can choose the gender and one of two ethnicities for the two characters.
  • Club Stub: After they find out Delta's charter can be revoked if they don't have enough pledges, Rose and Faye spend much of the book trying to recruit new members.
  • Coordinated Clothes: A premium choice at the beginning of Chapter 17 allows you to dress Daisy and Rose in dresses of similar colors. Although the dresses are different in design, they are able to fool King Edmond and Cecil easily.
  • Covers Always Lie: One of the keywords listed in the app is "twins". In chapter 9, it is revealed that Daisy and Rose have the same father, making them half-sisters, but they are never established to be twins.
  • Fake Wizardry: The Deltas and Devin can get revenge by doing this in a premium scene in chapter 12. Astra pretends to be Nettie Vincent while the rest of the group does all the work. The result? The Thetas are frightened throughout the book.
  • Family Eye Resemblance: King Edmond says this upon learning that Daisy is his daughter in Chapter 18.
King Edmond: "Daisy, was it? Do you swear you are truly my daughter?"
Daisy: "Yes. I figured it out the day you told me about 'Anna'."
King Edmond: "I see her in your eyes."
  • First Kiss: Rose can give Devin her first kiss in the premium scene in Chapter 2. She confirms at the end of the scene.
Devin: "Thanks for an unforgettable night, Daisy."
Rose: "(And thank you for my very first kiss!)"
  • Fish out of Water: Daisy at the court of Monterre and Rose at Julivert University after swapping places.
    • Despite her knowledge of Monterre history, Daisy was born in the United States and raised in a small town near Cleveland, Ohio, but quickly adapted to the court.
    • Despite growing up with all the luxury that her palace can offer, Rose had a hard time adjusting to the cycle within the university that bears her last name.
  • Floral Theme Naming: The default names of the two main characters are Daisy and Rose.
  • Foil: We can see these examples.
    • Between Cecil and Eren. Both are nobles and members of the court of their nations. Cecil is one of King Edmond's advisors and an arrogant and rude man and thinks Monterre is superior to Ismar while Eren is Clarke's best friend and a nice and polite man in addition to wanting peace between Monterre and Ismar.
    • Between Daisy and Rose. Both are princesses and daughters of the same father, King Edmond (and revealed that they are half sisters) who switched places temporarily. Daisy was born and raised in a small town near Cleveland, Ohio and traveled to Monterre as an exchange student and apart from being a major in history, she is interested in Montere's inner politics while Rose grew up in the middle of the Monterre court, has little knowledge of history and little interest in the country's inner politics.
  • Foreshadowing: In Chapter 7, Rose can tell Devin she always wished she had a sister to bond with... then it is revealed in Chapter 9 that she really has a sister!
  • Genre Mashup: The story is Slice of Life which combines princess and school stories.
  • The Good Kings: The two kings have a great interest in seeking peace between their countries.
    • King Edmond, Rose and Daisy's father is like that with the people of Monterre.
    • The same can be said about King Idris, Clarke's father, but with the people of Ismar.
  • Hello, [Insert Name Here]: As with all Choices characters, you can name your character. The default name here is Daisy Hawthorne. The princess is customized according to Daisy's appearance, her default name is Rose and her last name is fixed as Julivert.
  • I Choose to Stay: Clarke was planning to stay in Monterre from the beginning until their parents decided to support them.
  • Identical Stranger/Uncanny Family Resemblance: Rose to Daisy (and vice versa). After they meet, they become friends and decide to disguise themselves as each other until they discover that they are half-sisters.
  • Incomprehensible Entrance Exam: Or presentation. In chapter 6, it is revealed that there was going to be a presentation of the students in class, but since Rose knows nothing of Daisy's personal life. If she chooses the premium option, Rose will ask Daisy for help cheating on the presentation.
  • Jerkass: Lord Cecil is an arrogant and obnoxious fellow who believes the Monterrans are superior to Ismaris. Aveline and Rose warn Daisy for his behavior and he is seen being nasty to Clarke in Chapter 2.
  • Knight Templar Dad: King Edmond was this with Rose (and Daisy) during the story after Rose's mother passed away. In chapter 18, the King of Monterre apologizes to his daughter after he discovers that she can fend for herself and even discovered that he has another daughter, giving her the title of princess soon after.
  • Lady-In-Waiting: Aveline, who is also Rose's best friend and knows that the princess and Daisy exchanged places.
  • Lady of Adventure: Princess Rose after changing places with student Daisy, thus facing all challenges as a college student.
  • Lessons in Sophistication: In chapter 1, Aveline and Rose teach Daisy how to behave like a princess before they proceed with the plan to change places temporarily.
  • Long-Lost Relative: Daisy was unaware of her royal lineage until she met Rose and later King Edmond, until she slowly discovered that her mother had a brief relationship with a certain prince who would become king.
  • Lovable Jocks: Kallie, a member of the Delta Theta Delta sorority and Dash Wright, Devin's younger brother.
  • Love Interests: Clarke, Prince(ss) of Ismar to Daisy and Devin Wright, a journalist to Rose.
  • Meaningful Name: The protagonists' default names are flowers in their speech bubble showing a rose and a daisy to represent them. The surname Hawthorne came from a thorn tree while Julivert in Catalan means parsley.
  • Missing Mom: Rose's mother died before the story begins.
  • Mistreatment-Induced Betrayal: In Chapter 14, practically everyone from Stephanie's sorority (the Thetas) quits and joins the Deltas instead, fully fed up of her toxic behavior.
  • Old Flame: King Edmond to Anna (Daisy's mom) and vice versa. During their conversation in chapter 9, Daisy discovers that King Edmond is really her father and that Anna was the first woman he really loved before she returned to America and he married the queen. At the end of Chapter 10, Daisy calls Rose, confirming that they are sisters and Rose is happy to hear the news.
  • Perky Goth: Safiya, despite being goth and possibly Muslim, is a quiet and funny woman and has a passion for science.
  • Politically-Active Princess: While in disguise, Daisy has shown an interest in Monterre's political affairs yet not knowing that she is also a princess. Her intention to bring peace between Monterre and Ismar angered Lord Cecil and pleased King Edmond.
  • Prince and Pauper: Gender Flipped. The story is based on the book that is the Trope Namer, where Princess Rose switches places with commoner Daisy.
  • Princess Incognito: Rose switches places with Daisy, taking her place as an exchange student. Devin, Safiya, Stephanie and the other students at Julivert University are unaware that Rose is a princess in disguise.
  • Really Royalty Reveal: When Daisy learns she's King Edmond's daughter.
  • Royal Bastard: Although it was never mentioned, Daisy is revealed to be one after she has learned that she is King Edmond's daughter. In Chapter 18, King Edmond learns that he has two daughters, he welcomed Daisy with open arms.
  • Sarcastic Confession: Rose can do it in the form of a question during the drink game in a premium choice in Chapter 5.
Rose: "Aren't we all really wearing masks and pretending to be someone we're not?"
  • Secret Keepers: Aveline, the best friend and lady-in-waiting of Rose and Faye, Daisy's best friend and roommate know that they have exchanged places and help them hide their true identities.
  • Signature Transition: The Princess Swap is the first book to present this kind of resource. Instead of showing the classic "Now playing with...", it shows a small slide showing the characteristic flower of the protagonists: daisies for Daisy and roses for Rose.
  • Spot the Imposter: Rose is spotted by Faye at the end of Chapter 2 because she noticed the sudden change in her behavior and in Chapter 3, she was forced to reveal her true identity to Faye, surprising her.
  • Star-Crossed Lovers: It is a recurring subject in the book.
    • King Edmond who met Anna at the royal observatory. She was just a tourist who was just visiting the place while Edmond was a young prince who was pretending to be a lesser noble to evade his responsibilities.
    • Daisy is just a college student who was in Rose's shoes when she met Clarke without knowing she is a prince(ss) of Ismar and their nations are rivals.
    • Rose is a princess disguised as a college student while Devin is just a commoner who works as a journalist.
  • Switching P.O.V.: The book is dual-lead and features two player-controlled protagonists: Princess Rose Julivert disguised as a college student who switched places with Daisy Hawthorne who is disguised as a princess.
  • Uptown Guy/Girl: Daisy, a commoner who has swapped places with a princess while Clarke is a prince(ss) of Ismar and Devin, a journalist while Rose is a princess who has swapped places with an exchange student.
  • Was It All a Lie?: After Rose comes clean to Devin in chapter 16, they ask her if anything of their relationship was real at all.
