Intro

Tan Lines reeks of People Sit on Chairs. The description mostly just describes how tan lines work in Real Life; the narrative meaning is supposed to be that the character doesn't care much about appearances, or that tan lines are simply Played for Laughs or Fanservice.

Question

Do examples give any associations that may be tropable? 50 wicks on work pages were checked.

    Potholes
  1. Characters.Miami Vice: He has blond hair, light eyes, and a reasonably fair complexion... and absolutely no Tan Lines, ever, and this trope leaves him stripped off enough to know pretty easily. Which... leads to some interesting questions about how and where Crockett potentially gets and maintains that tan.

Film. The Malibu Bikini Shop: Shameless Fanservice Girl: During the Tan Lines/bikini contest, Margie Hill says that she doesn't have any tan lines because she likes to tan "au naturel," and removes her bikini top to flash her breasts. Some tourists see her and a woman screams, leading to police getting involved. Two police officers use their caps to cover Margie's breasts.
  4. Characters.Fate Grand Order Foreigners: Her Third Ascension has multiple demon-like traits like a barbed tail, wings, horns and darkened skin with what looks like Tan Lines.
  5. Characters.Ru Pauls Drag Race Down Under Series 1: Karen admits that the Nude Illusion runway challenge is both out of her comfort zone and way out of character for her drag persona as a "middle-aged bookkeeper from the outer suburbs of Melbourne". However, she manages to nail the challenge, whilst still staying very much in character, with a fun, polka-dot bikini ensemble that she whips off to reveal comedy Tan Lines and a bright yellow merkin that matches her bright yellow wig.

Conclusion

Yeah, it's an extremely Chairs-y trope. No examples in this sample mentioned that the character didn't care about appearances. Tan lines being Played for Laughs is already mostly covered by Embarrassingly Painful Sunburn. There are a couple more tropable concepts, like a character who's perpetually tanned because they like the beach, or tan lines being played for fanservice.

Proposal

Cut and disambiguate between tropes such as Suntan Stencil and Embarrassingly Painful Sunburn. Put any tropable concepts in the Yard.
