Tanuma sneaks into the youkai filled mansion to rescue Natsume and manages to trick the youkai into releasing Natsume from the magically sealed jar, as they are subsequently attacked they are saved by the youkai that suggested Tanuma leave at the end of the last episode who is revealed to be Natori in disguise. As they try to leave the mansion they quickly discover that it is impossible to find the exit and sealed so that the windows and outer walls cannot be broken and that the mansion's owner has not gathered the youkai in order to gain followers to protect as its followers had advertised.

Tropes associated with this episode:

  • Alien Geometries: Windows side by side in Omibashira’s mansion show the view from different levels and angles of the house and the exit cannot be found by retracing one’s steps back to where they entered as it will lead them deeper into the house instead.
  • Bigger on the Inside: Nyanko-sensei quickly realizes Omibashira’s mansion is much larger inside than it appears from the outside, he does not seem very surprised by this as the mansion is in the world of youkai.
  • Bishie Sparkle: To Natsume’s annoyance Natori is surrounded by them as he introduces himself as an actor to Tanuma.
  • Blue with Shock: Tanuma and Natori both go blue when Natsume addresses the pushy schoolgirl as “sensei” and they realize it’s Madara.
  • Bond Creatures: Natori’s shiki are with him.
  • Brown Bag Mask: Natori once again stuns with his amazing skills at disguising himself.
  • Child Eater: Natsume is able to get Omibashira to chase him and ignore the other remaining guests in order to trick it into stepping on the circle Natori and him drew to seal it just by asking if it was hungry and revealing himself as a human child with strong spiritual energy.
  • Cool Mask: Hiiragi is wearing her horned mask with a sing eye painted on it.
  • Dramatic Wind: Madara's hair and clothes start moving with a strong wind that affects no one else while he is threatening the youkai present with eating them himself if they don't flee. He has exhibited the ability to manipulate weather before so it's unclear if this is a battle aura side effect or just something he's doing to look dangerous.
  • Easily-Overheard Conversation: Nyako hears a pair of youkai loudly discussing Natsume’s escape and the fact that he is rumored to have a “fat calico cat” with him.
  • Eaten Alive: The fate of many of the guests in the mansion, though they are not swallowed whole, instead leaving behind a surprising amount of gore for this series.
  • Eyes Do Not Belong There: Omibashira has a large eye in the middle of its chest, it has no head so it can't have any eyes in a more traditional place.
  • Footprints of Muck: Sensei follows some bloody footprints to track Omibashira.
  • Geometric Magic: Natori and Natsume use a circle to seal Omibashira before it can regain all of its power by eating the guests.
  • Guile Hero: Tanuma tricks the youkai that sealed Natsume in the jar to begin with into freeing him since neither Tanuma or Nyanko can open it.
  • Have We Met?: When Natori removes his mask Tanuma says he looks familiar which is because Natori is an actor.
  • Hidden Eyes: Tanuma’s eyes disappear when he is trying to sneak into the youkai banquet and Nyanko pops out of a bush and scares him.
  • Human Sacrifice: Natsume is to be given to Omibashira as tribute.
  • Inn Between the Worlds: Omibashira’s mansion is in the youkai world and Tanuma only gets in by accident, its location is the reason Tanuma can clearly see the youkai.
  • Inn of No Return: The youkai are coming to Lord Omibashira’s mansion for his protection but the mansion is designed to be inescapable and Omibashira is eating the gathered youkai.
  • Invited as Dinner: The Onizaru invited the weaker youkai to a banquet in Omibashira’s honor where they were to bring offerings and gain his protection however it was a ruse to get weaker youkai gathered for Omibashira to eat in order to rebuild his power.
  • Kimono Is Traditional: The youkai wear kimonos and the humans have to wear them in order to disguise themselves.
  • Land of Faerie: The mansion is in the world of youkai.
  • Mobile Maze: Omibashira’s mansion, which helps trap the guests there.
  • Monstrous Cannibalism: Omibashira is eating the gathered youkai that came to him for protection.
  • Mugged for Disguise: Tanuma stole his first disguise off a youkai with Madara's help, leaving him unconscious in a loincloth.
  • Multi-Part Episode: Second part of a two-parter.
  • Paint the Town Red: The rooms in Omibashira's mansion become blood splattered as more and more of his guests are violently consumed.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: All the humans just wear flimsy paper sheet masks, or in Natori’s case a paper bag, in order to trick the youkai into considering them to be fellow youkai.
  • People Jars: Natsume has been shrunk and trapped in a magically sealed glass jar.
  • Power Glows: Madara starts glowing as he threatens the youkai present in a display of his power without changing into his true form.
  • Running Gag: Nyanko is referred to as “Natsume’s fat cat” by some of the youkai in attendance.
  • Sailor Fuku: Sensei shifts into his school girl form after his cat form attracts too much attention, wearing a sheet mask with a simple cat face panted on it.
  • Sensor Character: Tanuma senses something odd, which is able to convince him to wander in the opposite direction from Madara.
  • Smoke Out: Natori uses a cloud of smoke to help Natsume and Tanuma escape after Tanuma manages to free Natsume right in front of most of the youkai at the altar the tributes are laid on.
  • Speak in Unison: Tanuma and Natori both say “Sensei!?” in unison when Natsume addresses Madara as such in his school girl form.
  • Stringy-Haired Ghost Girl: Urihime has the appearance of one, though seeing as she is one of Natori’s shiki she must be some type of youkai.
  • Supernaturally Delicious and Nutritious: The reason both Natsume and Tanuma are targeted is their stronger than normal spiritual power.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: Madara shifts into his school girl form resembling Reiko after his cat form is seen.
  • Youkai: So very many.
