Avatar, or James Cameron's Avatar, is a Science Fiction / Adventure franchise created in 2009 by James Cameron with the epic 3D movie of the same name, which ended up the highest grossing film of all time.
It concernes the alien world of Pandora, a moon/planet the atmosphere of which is toxic to humans. This world is inhabited by tall blue cat face-like humanoids, the Na'vi, and their interactions and clashes with spacefaring human invaders as well as their bond to the planet's wildlife and sentient force/goddess Eywa are central to the stories. The franchise also reflects Cameron's environmentalism.
Not to be confused with Avatar: The Last Airbender.
