Character Builders, established in 1986, was a North American (specifically, Ohio) animation studio founded and headed by Jim Kammerud, Marty Fuller and Jeff Smith, the creator of the Bone series. Smith left the studio to pursue his comic interests in 1991. Writer/director Brian Smith and animator/story artist Dan Root also became eventual partners in the studio. Character Builders specialized in traditional animation for commercials, television and feature films. They ceased operations in 2005, and a spin-off studio, Hot Donut Productions, briefly worked on The Fox and the Hound 2 before shutting down as well.
