     Katsuo Orutoku
Katsuo Orutoku

Ultimate Security Guard

  • Extreme Doormat: He's outspoken and shows a firmness in his belief in the others against Monokuma before the first execution, but he's not a stranger to being talked over and quickly withdraws his attempt to take up the mantle of Team Delta's leader when Uroko nominates herself.
  • Expy: His status as an unfailingly friendly muscle who's extremely loyal towards a standoffish maroon-clad lawyer is a lot like Dick Gumshoe's relationship with Miles Edgeworth.
  • Lovable Jock: Combine his fitness with his sweet and cheerful personality and what do you get? The Lovable Jock!
  • Nice Guy: Orutoku is probably the single friendliest passenger, treating everyone like a buddy and putting his belief in others. While very few of the trial-goers are outright contemptful towards Yoshida for being the blackened, nobody is as outspoken as Katsuo in still considering him a friend even in post-trial, and he argues with Monokuma in similar fashion to Makoto protesting the bear's judgement of Leon in Trigger Happy Havoc. He manages to make an odd friendship even with the haughty Ryuumatsu.
  • Odd Friendship: While Orutoku is buddies with everyone, he's introduced next to and seems to orbit closest to Ryuumatsu, with Hibiki noting they make a strange pair and mistaking them for being previously acquainted. Orutoku seems to be the one doing most of the friend-based legwork, but Ryuumatsu does seem to appreciate him somewhat.
  • Sunglasses at Night: Katsuo never takes his sunglasses off. Word of God says that he might even sleep with them on.

     Tsuruko Hashikawa
Tsuruko Hashikawa

Ultimate Sailor

  • Bespectacled Cutie: Tsuruko has big round specs and an endearingly dorky demeanor, being a nervous prodigy sailor who really tries to carry a strong appearance.
  • Coat Cape: Wears her navy blue gakuran like this, which trails behind her dramatically and fits the image of a heroic captain. The 'badass' factor of the trope is subverted by Tsuruko being a socially anxious nerd, despite her rugged bod and incredible capabilities.
  • Clothing Switch: Monokuma swaps Tsuruko's captain cap out for a sailor hat, just for funsies!
  • Heroic Build: Despite being on the shorter side of the group, Tsuruko is built, with muscular arms and visible abs. It makes a lot of sense, given she's known to take on coast guard duty.
  • Nervous Wreck: Monokuma gives everyone a nickname, and this is literally Tsuruko's.
  • Sailor Fuku: Talent-appropriately, she wears one of these, which exposes her amazing abs.

     Akira Yousetsu
Akira Yousetsu

Ultimate Mechatronics Engineer

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/akira_78.png

  • The Baby of the Bunch: While several of the passengers are outright adults, Yousetsu is only 15 years old, making her younger than the others by a notable margin and likely still a bit younger than any of the official killing games' human participants were implied to be before being revealed to have several years' worth of Missing Time.
  • Sleepy Head: Yousetsu, in her introduction, falls asleep mid-conversation. She also generally has a sleepy, slow demeanour.
  • Teen Genius: She's much younger than the rest of the cast- only being 15 years old- but she's definitely one of the smartest.
  • Techno Babble: She frequently indulges in this, as she has complicated mechanical knowledge running through her head at all times.

     Miren Aitou
Miren Aitou

Ultimate Mortician

  • Actually Pretty Funny: Aitou actually laughs and blushes under a hand at Hibiki summarising his awkward reception of their discussion as him having a difficult time "[drifting] on the conversational breeze with a ten-foot pole up your ass, huh?"
  • Awesome Anachronistic Apparel: He stands out a bit from the others, as his clothing is a bit more classy and formal.
  • Classy Cravat: A formal accessory for a formal man.
  • Not So Stoic: Aitou isn't particularly averse to being flustered by the likes of Uroko, but he keeps up a proper and professional appearance and is completely unflappable towards Monokuma in the face of the first body discovery, but near the end of the first investigation, he ends up laughing at one of Hibiki's vulgar barbs at his expense, and shortly thereafter quietly speaks up to voice his appreciation for Alix's surprisingly thoughtful belief about departed spirits (not long after the latter flustered him by sincerely complimenting the sound of his laugh).
Hibiki (internally): I’d never seen Alix this serious or Aitou this vulnerable before.
  • Smart People Wear Glasses: He wears glasses, and is very well-versed in the science of corpses.
  • Waistcoat of Style: While he does wear one, he's not exactly the most suave person.

     Uroko Hondo
Uroko Hondo

Ultimate Composer

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/uroko.png

  • An Arm and a Leg: She gets her leg sliced off by her killer.
  • Cute Giant: Uroko stands at 6'1 like her karate master sister and is hinted to be about as strong, making her one of the largest passengers behind only Sumire (6'4) and Minerva (6'8), but her field of interest lies in music, and she has an adorable idol-style appearance and cheerful attitude.
  • Genki Girl: Uroko is always bursting with boundless amounts of energy! Even the presence of the dastardly Monokuma and nasty Hibiki can't get her down!
  • Idiot Hair: Uroko has an ahoge in the shape of a musical note.
  • The Leader: She becomes this for Team Delta, perking up to nominate herself right as Orutoku was going to offer.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Uroko is a very energetic, optimistic, overly happy Genki Girl, making her the red to her sister Maeko's blue.
  • Slashed Throat: The cause of her death.
  • Valley Girl:
"OMG, hi! I’m Uroko Hondo! My fans call me the Ultimate Composer, but you guys can just call me Uroko!"
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: She's the first victim.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: Compared to Maeko, whose talent is in a martial art, Uroko isn't very much a combatant, but she's just as big as her twin sister and seems to share her physical strength. This is noteworthy enough to become key to the discussion of how she was murdered, and the state of the room suggests she put up a serious fight for her life even before Maeko arrived. Yoshi managing to come out relatively unharmed in a fight against her even wielding a katana is outright attributed his miraculous luck.

     Kyou Kurai
Kyou Kurai

Ultimate Voice Actor

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kyou.png

  • Delinquent Hair: Kyou's hair is dyed a bright red, and he's not exactly the friendliest person either.
  • Red Is Violent: The combination of his red hair and his anger issues plays into this trope.
  • Jerkass: Kyou is very rude and angry pretty much all of the time.
  • The Napoleon: Hibiki describes him as being five feet of pure rage and angst. He's actually 4'10, easily the shortest of the crew aside from Kim and even smaller than the 15-year old Yousestsu, and he's introduced yelling in frustration at being Surrounded by Idiots.
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: One of the more foulmouthed members of the cast.

     Saori Sumire
Saori Sumire

Ultimate Marine Biologist

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saori.png

  • Cool Big Sis: Towards Hashikawa.
  • Earthy Barefoot Character: Saori doesn't have footwear, and is quite down-to-earth and in touch with nature - it's even part of her talent. She's able to get an estimate on the kind of location the S.S. Despair is beached in from observing their surroundings.
  • Genius Bruiser: Saori is smart, sure, but she packs a punch in both personality AND strength.
  • Mama Bear: She looks after the timid Hashikawa, which brings her into direct conflict with Toramoto when he accuses her of being the mastermind.
  • Sassy Black Woman: She responds to Ryuumatsu's attitude with sass and grins at watching him trip over himself trying to claim he remembers her name.

     Yanagi Ryuumatsu
Yanagi Ryuumatsu

Ultimate Defence Attorney

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yanagi_6.png

  • Animal Theme Naming: 'Ryuu' can translate to 'dragon', which paired with Hideki's name, can reference the clashing of tigers and dragons in Japanese mythology, and how the two characters are opposing forces. (Law breaking loan shark vs. Stickler attorney)
  • Butt-Monkey: Yanagi's ego gets punctured on a regular basis.
  • Ojou Ringlets: Yanagi's are a bit harder to notice, but they're there!
  • Running Gag: Over the course of the first trial, Yanagi repeatedly tries to say something only to get interrupted by their peers.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: Yanagi's pretty full of themselves.
