Main Character
Scholar
The player character.- Character Customization: Scholar's name, gender, sex, hair color, hair style, skin color, and eye color are all up to you. These choices will be reflected in the game and in illustrations. (Being able to change Scholar's expression is a planned feature, but not currently available.)
- Fish out of Water: In some chapters, Scholar seems unaware of certain information about either their new school or their peers, such as being unaware of Tadashi's ties to the Nakano Group (despite it being in his last name), as well as being unaware about Arlington-specific information such as how the scholarship system works (despite being a scholarship student themselves). Both are lampshaded in-game.
- Player Character: Players can control what Scholar looks like, how they react to certain situations, and who they romance.
- Scholarship Student: Right there in the nickname; Scholar is one of 10 scholarship students at Arlington, a private school full of Rich People.
- Virtual Paper Doll: As part of the customization aspect, Scholar's attire can be changed. (The illustrations will usually show them wearing the school's uniform.) When you first sign up, a few clothing items are already available in your Scholar's personal wardrobe. More can be purchased from the clothes store.
Main 10
General
A list of tropes that apply to all of the main ten.- Love Interests: Each of the main ten is a potential romance option.
Alistair Drew
A down-to-earth athlete.- Lovable Jock: The academy's most promising athlete and incredibly amiable.
- Scholarship Student: Like Scholar, he is only able to attend Arlington Academy due to its coveted scholarship program.
Axel
A popular teenage rock star.- Only Known by Their Nickname: Axel is his stage name. His real name is unknown to seemingly all except Tadashi and Arlington officials.
- The Rock Star: The teenage variant, without the Sex, Drugs, and Rock & Roll usually implied with this trope (for obvious reasons).
Claire Durand
A loving wannabe neurosurgeon.- Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Has the lightest hair out of the main ten and is the most compassionate of them.
Ellie Collins
A prankster engineer.- Genki Girl: Downplayed. She is more energetic than most of her peers, but not to the extremes this archetype usually displays.
- Hidden Depths: Despite being one of the most rambunctious of the main 10, she is more observant than some people give her credit for. In Chapter 3 she notices Scholar's stress, and encourages them to speak to her if they ever need to talk to someone. It's up to the player if Scholar takes up her offer.
Karolina Nováková
The school's top model.- Defrosting Ice Queen: Zig-zagged. If the player pursues her route or is at a sufficient infinity level, she will act accordingly, being less rude towards Scholar... to an extent. She still comments on Scholar's monetary status in a negative light in some chapters, to the point where other members of the main 10 call her out on it. She seems to be maturing in Chapter 11 where she apologizes to both Scholar and Neha for her treatment of them. She meets Scholar in private later in the chapter to give a full apology, breaking down into tears when she explains her lonely childhood and acknowledges that Scholar may not forgive her. Its up to the player if they do or not.
- Half-Identical Twins: Averted. The only thing that Karolina shares with Tegan is hair color.
- Polar Opposite Twins: Karolina is every bit as tough and immovable as her twin is awkward and subdued.
- Sugar-and-Ice Personality: Karolina acts rather cold towards most of the cast, especially Scholar (and other scholarship students), viewing them as freeloaders. However, she shows a softer side towards those she likes, such as Neha and Tadashi.
Neha Rao
A fashion expert.- Scholarship Student: Neha is another scholarship student. She didn't tell anyone due to the ramapant elitism present in the academy, and because she didn't want Karolina to hate her.
Raquel Pereira-Camargo
A soccer enthusiast.- Fun Personified: Any chance she can get to have some fun, Raquel will take.
Tadashi Nakano
The student body president.- Not So Above It All: While his outer Straight Man shell may seem tough to crack, he is willing to joke around and even tease his friends if the situation calls for it.
- Just Friends: He turns down Karolina's feelings in Chapter 11. While Karolina is understandably heartbroken, they decide to try out just being friends, and make plans to hang out later. This dosen't stop Karolina from blushing when he speaks, however, which indicates that it will be a while before her feelings fade completely.
- Oblivious to Love: While Karolina makes multiple advances over the chapters, he doesn't seem to acknowledge any of her flirtatious comments. This is subverted in Chapter 10, when it's revealed he is, in fact, aware of Karolina's crush on him, making it a case of Selective Obliviousness.
- Scholarship Student: Due to his father's arrest and the subsequent scandal involved, he is almost kicked out of Arlington. It is the heart-felt online video he posts that allows him to stay, as well as Lady A entering his name for the Scholarship program afterwards.
- Student Council President: Well, student body president, but the position is the same.
Tegan Novák
A tech genius.- Half-Identical Twins: Averted. Tegan doesn't share many characteristics with Karolina, if any. Really the only way to tell that they're twins is that they have the same red hair.
- Polar Opposite Twins: Tegan is far less hotheaded and outgoing than his twin.
Tyler Williams
An art student.- Nice Guy: Genuinely kind and friendly, Tyler doesn't have much trouble gaining friends.
- Stepford Smiler: While genuinely friendly, he feels unequal to his genius and talented friends. When nearly all the main 10 are helping Tadashi prepare for his father's trial Tyler notes that everyone seems to be busy with something unknown to him. Feeling left out, he laments that out of his group of friends, he's only "The Artist".
Other students
Serena
One of Arlington's senior students, Serena helps Scholar become acquainted with Arlington Academy. She is incredibly knowledgeable, to the point where Scholar isn't even sure if she's a student.- Ms. Exposition: Her main function in the game is to help Scholar (and the player) familiarize themselves with the mechanics of the game. The only times she appears in-game is to deliver exposition.
Andy
A close friend of Serena's, Andy is shy but very loyal.- Cool Shades: Wears a pair of sunglasses on top of her head.
C & A
A pair of students that Scholar was able to meet upon their arrival at Arlington. They were later replaced by Andy.- Coat Over the Shoulder: C carries her school jacket over her left shoulder.
- Post-Apocalyptic Gas Mask: A wore one as part of her uniform. No one knows why and asking about it lowered both C and A's Infinity.
Teachers
Lady Amelia Arlington
Lady Arlington is the President and Dean of Arlington Academy as well as the head of the Business, Commerce, and Politics Department.- In-Series Nickname: Is often referred to as Lady A by students.
- Reasonable Authority Figure: Despite her strict nature, she will listen to every side of someone's argument before deciding how to proceed.
Coach Murdoc Davis
The Academy's physical education teacher as well as the head of the Athletics Department.- Drill Sergeant Nasty: The coach version; he's well known for pushing his students to their limits, and generally being merciless in regards to physical fitness.
Ms. Maria Rodriguez
Arlington's local math teacher.- Stern Teacher: Ms. Rodriguez won't put up with any shenanigans during her class. Fool around too much for her liking and she well hand out a detention, no questions asked. Underneath it all, she does care for the wellbeing of her students.
Ms. Nabila Khan
Head of the Fashion Department, she always pushes her students to stay true to themselves.- The Fashionista: Seeing as she's the head of the Fashion Department, this is to be expected.
Dr. Zoe Lee
An internationally famous engineer, Dr. Lee is head of the Pure and Applied Sciences Department.- Wrench Wench: Loves tinkering and using her hands to build computers, robots, and various other tech.
Dr. Meifeng Wu
A retired surgeon, Dr. Wu is head of the Health Sciences and Biology Department.- Stern Teacher: but still cares immensely for her students.
Dr. Alex Kim
Dr. Kim is head of the Performing Arts Department.- Raven Hair, Ivory Skin: Has pale skin and long black hair.
Mr. Robert Boss
Head of the Fine Arts Department, Mr. Boss is a laid back art teacher who knows how to inspire creativity in his students.- Cool Teacher: Mr. Boss is well liked by the students at Arlington. His classes are the most sought-after due to his laissez faire attitude towards teaching.
