Playable Aurorians: Illumina Federation | Rediesel Wrench | Lumopolis | Umbraton | Northland | True Order | Longzhou | Independent | Collaboration
Non-Playable Characters: Other Characters | The Eclipse

A federation of connected Undercities with Gannon at its center, the Illumina Federation is at the frontlines in the conflict against the Eclipsites.

General Tropes

  • Badass Army: The entire faction is essentially one big army dedicated to holding the line against Eclipsite invasions from swamping Astra. As such, you won't find a single member incapable of fighting or complaining about rations if it's to protect the world.
  • Elite Four: The Four Illumina Generals—Hiiro, Sharona, Wrath, and Barton—each commanding a Legion and answer to the Grand Marshal.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: They're notable for being Astra's leader in the field of machinery and having knowledge on lost Caelestite technology, coming up with whatever means possible to both defeat the Eclipsites and improve their lifestyle (and life expectancy) in the meantime. Part of their scientific development often involves diving into ancient ruins for Lost Technology, which is how Vice found the Navigator and part of why the event The End! Maiden and the Ruins came about.
  • Highly-Conspicuous Uniform: Most Aurorians affiliated with Illumina sport a giant logo of the federation on their outfits.

Illumina Generals

    Barton
Legion commander for Illumina Federation. A warmonger who cannot stand the monotony of peacetime and will seek to win at any cost.

    Hiiro
Voiced by: Akari Kitou
Element: Forest (Thunder)
Class: Detonator
Rarity: 6

A girl with unrivaled fighting skills. As a Legion Commander of the Illumina Federation, she's known to be strict, serious, and determined. Facing each battle with calculated confidence, she's scored many victories with her longsword in hand.

    Sharona
A Legion Commander of the Illumina Federation and a cold fish with dragon power. Although aloof and detached, she's someone you can count on. She has an ancient, mysterious origin. After joining the Federation, she became the Legion Commander due to her merits in battles. She always carries her Azure Flame katana that symbolizes her heritage.

    Wrath
An ambitious Illumina Federation Guard Legion Commander who made an upright challenge for the leadership of the Illumina Federation. She is energetic, toils tirelessly to gain greater power, and has a strong desire to monopolize things. She is a little uneasy in her subconscious mind.

    Charon

Charon of Styx
Ascended
Voiced by: Makoto Furukawa
Element: Fire (Forest)
Class: Detonator
Rarity: 6

The Chief of Transportation in the Illumina Federation who owns a train called Other End. His everyday antics are so over the top, it's almost as if he were performing on stage. Thus he is isolated by others and becomes somewhat of a loner.

  • All Animals Are Dogs: A truly bizarre variation of this: in his first profile entry, Vice describes Other End, Charon's sentient train, as acting like a dog.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Don't let his flamboyant stage persona fool you; there is a reason he's so highly ranked in the Illumina Federation. That said, if May's personal story is any indication, he runs Other End within Soroz while he's aboard, to give you an idea of the size of the bunny ears involved.
  • Religious and Mythological Theme Naming: He's named after the ferryman of the underworld in Greek Mythology.

    Nemesis
Voiced by: Aimi
Element: Thunder
Class: Converter
Rarity: 5
A member of the Illumina Federation, her words and deeds carry a touch of old-school chivalry, and her behavior and conduct are to the letter. As a result, she was appointed as the Legion Captain's Gendarmerie Commander, gaining everyone's trust with her sacrificial and impartial law enforcement.

  • A-Cup Angst: When Cordy complains how she has a hard time watching her step because her vision got blocked all the time by her boobs, Nemesis says that she has no way of understanding that problem and lets out a painful laugh.
  • BFS: She has a giant sword that's longer and larger than she is that would make the likes of Guts and Cloud Strife jealous.
  • For Great Justice: Every other word out of her mouth is about enforcing justice, right down to her fighting style and the name of her sword.

    Philyshy

Illusory Blades
Voiced by: Azumi Waki
Element: Water (Fire)
Class: Support
Rarity: 5

The Intel Chief of the Illumina Federation. She is usually gentle, approachable, and a little lazy, but her alternate persona is quite rebellious and even dangerous. She strayed into an Eclipsite community in the past and only survived by creating her second persona.

    Vice

Memories Gone By
Ascended
Voiced by: Tomori Kusunoki
Element: Water (Thunder)
Class: Sniper
Rarity: 5

A member of the Illumina Federation with a gentle personality. Not only is she highly talented, hardworking, and enthusiastic, she has also received intensive training since a young age thanks to the recognition from high officials. She's now appointed as the expedition captain who's responsible for the search and excavation of ancient ruins.

  • Series Mascot: While the Navigator is the main character, it's her face that's on the app icon. She also takes front and center in quite a bit of promotional material for the game, and is the very first character you control in battle.
  • Starter Mon: She's the first character the player starts with, with Angel and Dove coming one mission later. Needless to say, she sticks with you through thick and thin.
  • Ship Tease: A bit less intense than some games of its type, but there's definitely an element of "romantic affection that develops through shared struggle and realized dreams" between her and the Navigator, with a dash of Rescue Romance on the Navigator's side. She's with you through thick and thin, you save and bleed for each other multiple times over, and by the end of the first year's story (around chapter 10 or so) you and Vice are thick as thieves and already can't quite imagine life without each other anymore.

    Vivian
Strict, rigid, and as the Chief of Staff for Illumina Federation, she's capable of planning and organizing everything to the most minute details. However, when things don't go her way, she can be very scary, so you'd better do your best to follow her instructions...

Research Lab

    Chandra
An optimistic and cheerful Illumina researcher, she has a special ability to absorb negative emotions from others and heal their mental trauma.

    Gronru
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/as_gronru.png
Maidenly Throne

Voiced by: Maaya Uchida
Element: Thunder (Forest)
Class: Converter
Rarity: 6

A female pilot of the giant mecha and the current Tech Officer of the Illumina Federation. She's said to be a genius retired from the military... Although she isn't particularly interested in fighting, she's intensely passionate about studying and controlling giant machines, almost to the point of obsession.

  • Gamer Chick: She's very into video games and often speaks in the lingo. In Migard's Spine-Chilling outfit story, she even ropes in the Navigator for a lot of gaming sessions and has got them to using gaming slang too.
  • Hostage For Macguffin: After fighting Schummer in Chapter 5-7, Schummer declares she wants the Autonomous Growth Unit in 30 minutes or she'll kill Gronru.
  • Older Than They Look: It's heavily implied in her files that she's old enough to have witnessed Illumina in its early days before its current self, and how "Vice was too young" to remember an attack on the Undercity they were in.
By the way, Illumina wasn't as interesting as it is now. This is all due to the development of science and technology. You look puzzled when I say that, kid. I'm far older than you think!
    Her Story (I)
  • Wrench Wench: She is called the Tech Officer of the Illumina Federation. Her files even mention having gotten her hands on military tech and "borrowing" some things to make her gauntlets.

    Lilliam
An entourage member of the Illumina Federation Scientific Research Institution. She speaks like a mechanical maid, but she is actually a Replicant of a certain powerful living being.

    Unimet
A researcher of the Illumina Federation. She is a genius who is fanatical about machines and models and finds it difficult to socialize. However, she can talk endlessly when talking about something she's fanatical about.

    Zoya
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/3_43.png
Snow Maiden of Netherworld
Voiced by: Yui Horie
Element: Water
Class: Support
Rarity: 3

A genius researcher of the Illumina Federation whose hunger for knowledge takes up all her attention... That, and a certain Legion Commander. Although she seems quiet, approaching her in haste will likely invite ridicule. For everyone's sake, it would be better not to disturb her too often.

Black Umbrella Laboratory

    Ansia
An Illumina officer responsible for communications. She treats her work with the utmost diligence and respect, despite the occasional pranks she plays.

    Benny & Curo
A duo from Illumina. Benny is brash and reckless, Curo is cool and calm. Despite their differences, they have great chemistry and are among the elite fighters for Illumina.

    Jola
Always smiling, this gentle and kind Illumina Federation member looks just like a harmless fella. He is an expert in natural science and gardening. Some of his disturbing behaviors have been condoned by Illumina Federation, yet he himself thinks nothing much of it.

    Migard
Voiced by: Sumire Uesaka
Element: Forest (Fire)
Class: Sniper
Rarity: 6

An Illumina research officer in charge of life science. Seemingly a loafer and a slacker, but shows the composed side in pivotal moments.

  • Hidden Depths:
  • Mad Scientist: Seems to work in multiple fields, having created the Diving Spines, some kind of construct symbiotically attached to her body amongst other experiments. From the get go of her obtainment voice line though, she makes it clear she's a research officer interested in you, a "live Caelestite", and her archives have her pondering over Vice. And let's not forget the other unfortunates she targets/harasses...
  • Noodle Incident: In Her Story (III), she mentions that her experiments nearly destroyed Undercity 9, apparently something that arose from her recklessness compared to her careful present self.
  • Unwitting Test Subject: The crux of her personal story, For Everyone, where the Navigator has to put their foot down on Migard sexually harassing Gronru, Lilliam, and Nemesis (respectively, inviting her to a shower, offering her an aphrodisiac, and wanting to get arrested to examine the officer up close before inviting Nemesis to her lab). A "test subject" to her ends up being a Terms of Endangerment—and she knows it! Then after the series of roleplays Migard insisted on to reenact the scenes, she adds the Navigator to her list.

Dunefire Defender

    White Dwarf
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/as_white_dwarf.png
Solar Scourge
Voiced by: Ryōta Suzuki
Element: Water
Class: Support
Rarity: 3

A junior officer of Illumina Legion. He is antisocial and doesn't get along with peers—supposedly a trait of his mysterious bloodline...
