Examples of Role Reprise where the actor returned to voice the role in animated films - these include any cases where the role was originated in a different medium (e.g. video games or live action).
There is a minimum time gap for most examples. To qualify for the trope, the gap between appearances (based on release date) should be 5 years or more. There's no such waiting period for actors who return to a Historical Domain Character or Public Domain Character in a new, unrelated production - even if it's based on the same work.
For the purpose of this trope, variants such as Alternate Universe and Alternate Continuity versions are treated as the same character.
- In Asterix: The Mansions of the Gods, compared to previous Asterix animated films, most of the voice actors are new. However, Roger Carel, who had been voicing Asterix since 1967, came out of retirement just for this film (he was nearing 90 and hadn't done any voice acting since 2010). Nobody had to beg him for it, though — he volunteered.
- Carel was unable to come back for 2018's The Secret of the Magic Potion, however. So instead they brought in Christian Clavier, who had played Asterix in live-action in Asterix & Obelix Take on Caesar and Asterix & Obelix: Mission Cleopatra. Carel eventually passed away in 2020.
- Pixar films:
- The Toy Story series managed to have the same actor (John Morris) who played Andy as a kid, adolescent and young adult through all three films, with the third movie being made 11 years after the second movie. The characters grew up in approximate real time, 15 years have passed in real life and Andy aged about 12 years. All of the main characters are also voiced by the same actors, with only one (Slinky) being recast due to Jim Varney's death.
- As with everyone in Cars 2 except for Fillmore, who is given a new voice actor due to the death of George Carlin; Red, who stopped speaking altogether due to the death of Joe Ranft; and Doc Hudson.
- Ditto for Cars 3. Doc Hudson was voiced in Lightning McQueen's memories by recording left behind by the late Paul Newman back when the first Cars movie was made.
- Monsters University is no exception either. They brought back Billy Crystal for Mike, John Goodman as Sully and Steve Buscemi as Randall.
- The Italian dub of Finding Dory brings back Luca Zingaretti, Carla Signoris and Stefano Masciarelli as Marlin, Dory and Crush.
- The original English also counts, such as Albert Brooks as Marlin and Ellen DeGeneres as Dory. The only exception is Nemo, who's voiced by a different child actor due to Alexander Gould hitting puberty.
- Everyone in The Hunchback of Notre Dame II except Laverne the gargoyle, due to the death of actress Mary Wickes, and The Archdeacon, whose one line leaves him relegated to The Other Darrin status.
- M. Bison and Sonic the Hedgehog's voice actors, Gerald C. Rivers and Roger Craig Smith respectively, reprised their characters for Wreck-It Ralph. Additionally, we have Kyle Hebert and Reuben Langdon returning as Ryu and Ken.
- The sequel features the Disney Princesses showing up for a cameo, with all but one of them being voiced by their (still-living) original voice actresses.note This includes Jodi Benson as Ariel, Paige O’Hara as Belle, Linda Larkin as Jasmine, Irene Bedard as Pocahontas, Ming-Na Wen as Mulan, Anika Noni Rose as Tiana, Mandy Moore as Rapunzel, Kelly Macdonald as Merida, Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel as Anna and Elsa respectively, and Auli'i Cravalho as Moana. Notably, O'Hara returning as Belle is quite surprising, given that she officially retired from the role. The current voices of Cinderella and Aurora, those respectively being Jennifer Hale and Kate Higgins, also return. In addition, there's also Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear, Brad Garrett as Eeyore , and Corey Burton as Grumpy.
- The Barbies in the Toy Story films are all voiced by Jodi Benson. There's a good chance this wasn't just some random casting choice — at the time Toy Story 2 was being made, she was the last person to give Barbie a voice, in Dance Workout with Barbie, an exercise video released way back in 1992.
- James Earl Jones voiced Mufasa in both the 1994 and the 2019 films of The Lion King.
- So did Mufasa's French dub voice, Jean Reno.

- A few voice actors reprise their roles in The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Beginning, including Jodi Benson and Samuel L. Wright. Kenneth Mars was unable to return, however.
- The Italian dub of the second movie gets back from the first movie Vittorio De Angelis as Eric, Marco Mete as Scuttle, Vittorio Amandola as Louis and Ronny Grant as Sebastian. Sonia Scotti, who voiced Ursula in the first movie, voices Morgana just like Pat Carroll did in English. In the third movie, Ronny Grant is the only one from the original cast who is still there, but Paola Valentini and Bruno Alessandro voiced Ariel and King Triton both in the second and third movie.
- Dom De Luise was big on doing this. In every sequel or spinoff series done to whatever movie he voiced in, he was always there to reprise his roles.
- Related to the above, the An American Tail sequels were remarkably consistent in their voice actors, the main exceptions being when Phillip Glasser outgrew the role of Fievel after Fievel Goes West, and Tanya's constant change of voice actors (Cathy Cavadini reprises her for the TV series though).
- JLA Adventures: Trapped In Time sees Diedrich Bader and Kevin Michael Richardson reprise their respective roles from Batman: The Brave and the Bold as Batman himself and Black Manta.
- Hades is played by James Woods in everything Disney has ever done related to Hercules. Apparently it's because Mr. Woods just really likes being Hades!
- Tate Donovan also counts - except Kingdom Hearts, where Hercules is voiced by Sean Astin - though in the case of the TV series, he wound up voicing Hercules as a teenager even if in the movie he was only him as an adult (young Herc was Josh Keaton).

The only exception besides Pierce is Jeffrey Tambor as Tom Manning, having been replaced by Jim Cummings.
