• 12 Strong (2018) ^note  It's not a particularly strong level 8, but it has enough blood spurting to reach it.
• 12 Years a Slave (2013) ^note  Rape, repeated graphic whipping and other torture of slaves.
• 13 Assassins (2010) ^note  Pretty graphic and bloody slicing. Woman who is said to have been tortuously mutilated shown with healed limb stumps.
• 1492: Conquest of Paradise (1992) ^note  Graphic impalement, dismemberment, very graphic headshot by bullet after being struck with arrows, dismembered bodies hung, compound fracture, innocents are strangled and burned at the stake, a very brief evisceration with some gore seen. A borderline 9; rare for a PG-13 movie.
• 1922 (2018) ^note  Brutal murder of innocent by throat slitting. Faces/flesh graphically eaten by rats.
• 24 Hours to Live (2017) ^note  Quite bloody stabbings and shootings, a pretty light 8.
• 28 Days Later (2002) ^note  Graphic blood splashes, dismemberment, "zombie" blown into chunks, eye gouging, vomiting huge amounts of blood, stock footage showing non-gory Real Life violence.
• 300 (2007) ^note  Graphic decapitations and dismemberments resulting in large sprays and splatters of blood; one decapitation and one leg dismemberment being very graphic. A man is stabbed in the eye in a very graphic close-up; he pulls the knife out graphically with blood spraying out. Frequent graphic slicing, stabbing and impaling amid large sprays and splatters of blood. The action is very stylized and all of the blood is computer-generated, but the violence is still vicious enough to reach this level.
• 6 Underground (2019) ^note  Huge, graphic blood splatters from impalement, headshots, squibs, severed eyeball shown at length, and the messy result of a grenade in a goon's mouth.
• Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (2012) ^note  This one might've been a light level 9 if it wasn't so humorous and cartoonish.
• Accident Man (2018) ^note  Graphic decapitations, stabbings and shootings.
• Les Affamés (2017) ^note  Graphic blood spraying, head very bloodily obliterated, eaten flesh.
• Alexander (2004) ^note  A hard 8/borderline 9 depending on cut. Graphic dismemberment and decapitation. Head briefly crushed by elephant.
• All Quiet on the Western Front (2022) ^note  There's plenty of brutal, painful-looking, take-no-prisoners war violence, with the most gruesome incidents being a man being bloodily run over by a tank and a man graphically committing suicide by repeatedly stabbing himself in the neck with a fork.
• All My Friends Are Dead (2021) ^note  A sexually-bound man is penetrated with a comb without consent. Otherwise, a 7 for moderately bloody beatdowns and shootings, including several headshots; most of which are in a Kingsman-esque orgy of mayhem at the end and a breast implant exploding. All is played for black comedy.
• Alone in the Dark (2005) (2005) ^note  Graphic squibs, impalement, decapitation, spine protruding out of a man's back.
• American Beauty (1999) ^note  For Lester's very bloody death by headshot.
• American History X (1998) ^note  For the equally infamous curb-stomp, prison rape, scenes of defenseless immigrant workers being brutally beaten and bloody murder of Danny.
• American Sniper (2014) ^note  A disturbing and shocking scene in which a child is tortured with a power drill: Most of this is offscreen, but there's a brief shot where the drill is graphically drilling his leg, accompanied by CGI blood spray. The drill is shown covered in blood and tissue after this. A hole is then drilled through his head, killing him (again, a graphic and brief shot of the drilling with CGI blood spray). This scene is borderline 9. A graphic and large CGI blood splatter when another child is shot dead. A dead man is found with his feet cut off. Otherwise level 7.
• American Soldiers (2005)
• American Ultra (2015) ^note  Large gooey squibs, graphic blood splatter and graphic jugular spray.
• American Psycho (2000) ^note  Very bloody axe murder, mutilated bodies seen, chainsaw bloodily lodged in victim's side, etc. Although Patrick's journal of hideous drawings in the unrated version would be a 10 in an illustrated medium, as would his murders in this film if show completely onscreen.
• Amistad (1997) ^note  For the very bloody slave uprising in the beginning.
• Andrei Rublev (1966) ^note  Limited gore but cruel and brutal violence including torture by pouring molten metal into a battered man's mouth and then dragging him away by horse, peasants slaughtered by Tartars, innocents having both their eyes stabbed out, as well as some brief images of actual animal cruelty including a rotting goose and horses being injured. The unreleased "The Passion" cut would've been a 10 with much more graphic and drawn out sequences of brutality, sexual violence, and gore.
• The Andromeda Strain (1971) ^note  A corpse’s wrist is cut open, with powdery coagulated blood spilling out. An exceedingly rare example of a G-rated film at this level.
• And Starring Pancho Villa as Himself (2003) ^note  It probably contains just enough blood splatter to qualify for this level.
• Apocalypse Now (1979) ^note  It's here for footage of an actual water buffalo being slaughtered. Otherwise, the film would probably be a level 7.
• Army of One (1993) ^note  Huge, graphic bloody squibs and dismemberment.
• Atomic Blonde (2017) ^note  A couple of shootings are too bloody for 7 (which most other violence here fits into).

• The Babadook (2014) ^note  For a vision of a man's head being sliced diagonally. This is gory, but is too brief, further away and surreal to be a 9. Issues on lower levels include a (false) vision of a bloody dead child.
• Babylon (2022) (2022) ^note  For when Nellie is bitten by a snake and the camera lingers on blood spewing out of the wound and congealing with the venom before Lady Fay chops the snake in pieces and sucks out the poison, and McKay's bodyguard is stabbed in the jugular and spews an ocean of blood. Other level 7 violence including bloody shootings, mishaps on a medieval film shoot, brief sight of bloody bare-knuckle fighting, and a man eating live rats (although it is apparent that No Animals Were Harmed, the scenes in question are still graphic enough for those respective levels).
• The Banshees of Inisherin (2022)^note For Colm cutting off each of his own fingers, and views of the bloody stump remaining on his hand. The cuts occur mostly offscreen, preventing this from hitting a 9.
• Battle Royale (2000) ^note  Two scenes where teen boys' throats are very graphically blown open by explosive collars, causing a lot of blood to spray out. A teen girl's throat is graphically slit, causing a lot of blood to spray out. A boy brutally stabbed in the body and groin. The unrated version shows 2 corpses with bloody crotches from a distance. Otherwise a hard 7 for repeated, bloody, sometimes cold blooded shootings with relatively cheesy blood effects and several very bloody corpses.
• A Bay of Blood (1971) ^note  One graphic, blood-spurting decapitation. Otherwise level 7.
• The Beast of War (1988)
• The Beekeeper (2024) ^note  It's a very soft level 8, with just enough splattering blood and sadism to reach this level.
• Benedetta (2021) ^note  A dream involves several graphic killings by sword, including a decapitation. A woman is briefly raped/tortured with a metal phallus. Other level 7 violence including, self flagellation, plague related body horror, a hand boiled in water, stabbing a bare chest, suicide by jumping and immolation, attempted gang rape, and stigmata.
• Black Book (2006) ^note  Some very graphic shootings; including headshots and murder of civilians.
• The Black Dahlia (2006) ^note  A corpse that's been cut in half, with its nipples severed and mouth sliced, is seen; but with no blood or gore. A woman in a porn film is forcibly penetrated with a sex toy. Falling victim graphically bashes their head on statue. Toddler seen with bullet hole in their head and a little blood.
• Black Water (2018) ^note  There's a fair amount of blood splatter, including some from headshots.
• Black Death (2010)
• Black Dynamite (2009) ^note  Severed eyeballs. Otherwise a 7 for fairly bloody squibs and headshots.
• Black Sunday (1960) ^note  Here for the shot of Prince Vadja's zombified body being burnt to a crisp and Asa briefly exposing her chest cavity with exposed organs. A hard 6 otherwise for the unpleasant satan mask, which kills Asa by stabbing her face, leaving unrealistic holes, various wounds, moderate bloodshed and a brief shot of a a dead hanging servant. This is comparatively tame for Italian horror standards.
• Black Sunday (1977) ^note  For the phone-bomb head explosion.
• Blade II (2002) ^note  Graphic blood splatter from a neck bite. Vampire has exposed back flesh during some sort of operation. Reaver sliced and it's yellow guts start to spill (it doesn't seem phased). Humanoid's head is graphically sliced in half but without red blood. Human gibbed by explosion, but rubble obscures explicit gore. Graphic autopsy on creature with very alien insides without red blood. Other level 7 violence; much of which would be on 8 with red blood.
• Blade: Trinity (2004) ^note  For the graphic decapitation in the beginning. Otherwise level 7 for a few graphic CGI squibs and some bloodied victims of Drake.
• Blonde (2022) ^note Due to two graphic rape scenes. Other instances of violence are less graphic but still disturbing. A little girl has her head slammed into a dashboard by her mother, who also slaps her multiple times. The mother later holds the girl's head underwater in an attempt to drown her. A woman gets an abortion against her will; there's a brief shot from inside her vagina showing medical instruments. Following an abortion, a woman bleeds profusely. A woman is slapped by her husband; he later beats her though this occurs off-screen, and we only hear the abuse. A pregnant woman trips and miscarries, getting covered in blood. A woman intentionally overdoses on drugs and dies; there's a lingering shot on her dead body. The movie notably got an NC-17 rating, although this was partly for frequent explicit nudity and sex scenes as opposed to just violent content
• Blood & Gold (2023) ^note  Some spilled brains are briefly seen after a fall and a man has a gold brick graphically smashed through his teeth. Otherwise level 7 for bloody headshots, villain's facial horror, some flying limbs, graphic burn wounds, and a thwarted rape that ends with boiling water thrown on the rapist's genitals.
• Blood Diamond (2008) ^note  Civilian's hands are chopped off; we see blood and the graphic stumps. Shootings with graphic blood splatter, including several civilians and hostages.
• Blue Mountain State: The Rise of Thadland (2016) ^note  For when Sammy is raped by the school mascot.
• Blue Ruin (2014) ^note  Head stabbing with realistically spurting blood, gnarly head wound from gunshot, very large blood splatters.
• Blue Steel (1990) ^note  Gory and painful bullet removal. Sight of a corpse with a very bloody bullet hole. Otherwise, level 7 for many shootings with somewhat profuse blood splatter, some of which are in slow-motion, an intense rape scene thwarted by the victim pistol-whipping the assailant, and implied domestic violence.
• Blue Velvet (1986) ^note  For the rape scene and the gory headshot received by Dennis Hopper at the end.
• Bodies Bodies Bodies (2022) ^note  Jugular sliced with kukri. Offscreen fall results in a graphically split skull. Another fall victim with twisted limbs and impaled with many glass shards. Another is repeatedly hit in the head with a weight causing profuse bleeding.
• Boogie Nights (1997) ^note  For Bill's suicide and the diner scene; featuring graphic shootings with copious blood and brain matter.
• The Book of Eli (2010) ^note  Graphic decapitation and dismemberment. Body graphically blown apart. Very bloody splatters from high calibur rounds.
• The Boondock Saints (1999) ^note  Graphic blood squibs and fleshy splatters. Cat is accidentally shot, causing it to graphically explode.
• Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992) ^note  Profuse blood spraying from decapitations, impalement, etc. Innocent victims are raped onscreen by vampires.
• Braveheart (1995) ^note  Brutal, graphic dismemberment.
• The Brave One (2007) ^note  Graphic shootings and injuries.
• Bride of Chucky (1998) ^note  A man gets suddenly gibbed by a moving truck (brief with cartoonish CG gore). Otherwise level 7.
• Bright (2017) ^note  Graphic blood squibs from shooting and throat cutting. Body that's cut in half; with lots of blood, but no viscera. It's a somewhat light 8.
• Brotherhood of the Wolf (2001) ^note  Mainly for the brief aftermath of a scalping, sight of a bitten corpse drowned in the water and discolored, and scenes of wolf corpses being cleaned with viscera falling out. While the extremely bloody sword fights and encounters with The Beast might rank 6 or 7 individually, their cumulative impact safely places this film on a level 8 as well.
• Bullet in the Head (1990)
• Bullet to the Head (2012) ^note  Graphic shootings including (especially) headshots. A fairly graphic autopsy. A mook falls and we see blood and a bit of brain matter underneath his head.
• Burn After Reading (2008) ^note  Very bloody headshot.
• Byzantium (2013) ^note  Graphic decapitations and burned bodies.
• The Candy Snatchers (1973) ^note Two rape scenes. Otherwise, 7 for multiple shootings and the beating of a tied-up victim.
• Capote (2005) ^note  For the brief but graphic murder of bound innocents by shooting and throat cutting; some of the victims being children. Black and white photos show victims with half/most of their face blown off (one partly covered by pillow).
• The Captain (2018) ^note  Borderline 9; some graphic details are partly obscured by B&W cinematography. Prisoners en masse are obliterated by a flak cannon. A soldier is gorily blown apart. A fleeing bound prisoner is shot many times in the back with graphic blood splattering.
• Captivity (2007) ^note  Unrated version sits on level 9 while Thriller version on level 6
• Cargo (2017) ^note  Very bloody biting of flesh, chunks of flesh, and scattered body parts. Gross body horror on the living.
• Carnosaur (1993)
• Casino (1995) ^note  Graphic squibs; including brutal stabbings and headshots. Character severely battered with bat until he is drenched head to toe in blood and is buried while barely alive. Gruesome torture with a vice, etc. The brutality of these scenes make them border on 9.
• Un Chien Andalou (1929) ^note  The iconic opening (showing a human woman having her eyeball sliced open by razor blade in close-up) was achieved by cutting open a dead calf's eyeball in an unsimulated manner.
• Child 44 (2015) ^note  Autopsies of children are seen. Innocents are bloodily executed by headshot. Character graphically shot in the eye. Head bashed on rock spilling some brain. Man bloodily stabbed in the neck, chest, and gut.
• Child's Play (2019) (2019) ^note  A man gets very bloodily scalped by a lawnmower (would be a 9 if shown more graphically). Otherwise level 7.
• Child's Play 3 (1991) ^note  A living doll gets his face partially sliced off by a scythe in graphic detail (red gory flesh seen). A living doll gets graphically minced by an industrial fan in slow motion, with red blood and gore spraying around. Otherwise level 7.
• Christmas Evil (1980) ^note  A brief, but very graphic close-up of an eye being stabbed, followed by blood dripping out. A soft 8.
• The Chronicles of Riddick (2004) ^note  For the Necromonger beheaded by Riddick in the director's cut and The Purifier committing suicide by walking out into Crematoria's scorching heat. Bloodless gunshots, stabbings and offscreen maulings are on level 5.
• Cinco de Mayo, La Batalla (2013)
• The Clan of the Cave Bear (1986) ^note During a ritual men fight a cave bear; the bear bites and claws them, resulting in lots of blood, including a gory bite-wound on one man's arm and the bear tearing off one man's head; the decapitation isn't really shown though we briefly see the bloody head. There are also multiple rape scenes.
• The Cleansing Hour (2019) ^note  A man messily slices his own jugular. A man burns alive and the aftermath is graphically seen, and later a demon gorily bursts out of it.
• A Clockwork Orange (1971) ^note  Depiction of gang rape; including extended and brutal attempted and offscreen gang rape. Unsimulated abuse of the lead actor; from being drowned for an extended period without breathing equipment and receiving retina damage from the Ludivigo segment.
• Coffy (1973) ^note  A man's head is briefly shown exploding (from the rear) from a shotgun blast (the shot cuts away before that much gore is visible).
• Cold in July (2014) ^note  Very bloody, spraying headshots (one in slow motion). Bloody shot to groin. Gushing from a cut jugular.
• Company Of Heroes (2013)
• Conan the Barbarian (2011) (2011) ^note  Huge gushes of blood, gory severed heads, head bashed on floor with lots of blood, graphic dismemberment and impalement.
• The Counselor (2013) ^note  Graphic decapitation. One death involves slow mechanical strangulation that ends in torrents of jugular spray and gory severed fingers (borderline 9). The extended version of the scene reaches a 9; after the act happens, the victim is carried out on a gurney and his head falls off of his body.
• Crank (2006) ^note  Very bloody headshots, graphic hand dismemberments, messy results of human shields vs grenade and gunfire.
• The Crazies (1973) (1973) ^note  Graphic bullet wounds with realistic spurting, etc.
• The Crazies (2010) (2010) ^note  Eyes grossly sewn shut. Surgical saw to neck sprays lots of blood. Some very bloody headshots. Bound victim repeated stabbed with pitchfork, causing blood to spill all over.
• Cries and Whispers (1972) ^note  A woman mutilates her genitals with a piece of glass and the bloody results are shown.
• Critters (1986) ^note  A mutilated dead cow is graphically shown: The insides of its stomach and head are shown. Otherwise level 7.
• Critters 2: The Main Course (1988) ^note  Graphic imagery: A gory severed arm which has been gnawed to the bone, a dying man with parts of his head missing, a critter biting a chunk of a man's foot off (gore is shown) and a huge ball of critters rolling over a man, reducing him to a gory skeleton. The comic and over-the-top nature of the film lessens the impact of these scenes.
• Cross of Iron (1977) ^note  Very large blood squibs, bloody crotch after biting.
• The Crow (1994) ^note  Mostly for the climatic fight scene, where a man falls from a great height and is impaled by a fountain offscreen; the aftermath is graphically shown, with intestines briefly visible. A woman also has her eyes pecked out by a crow; the graphic and gory aftermath is shown, although the process itself is not particularly graphic. Lots of brutal, bloody fight scenes, often involving people getting stabbed and shot, and occasional sadism (though Eric's victims aren't sympathetic). One scene with a charred corpse. There are several flashbacks to the violent rape of Shelly; the scenes are brief with dark lighting, so they're not especially graphic, though it's obvious as to what happened.
• A Cure for Wellness (2017) ^note  A rape. Cattle graphically sliced open with a deluge of blood and eels. Shovel graphically lodged in side of deformed head. Somewhat graphic dental torture, borderline 9.
• Curse of Chucky (2013) ^note  A man gets his lower jaw hacked off with an axe (graphic and gory, borderline 9). A woman is graphically stabbed in the eye in an extreme close-up. The comedic tone keeps the movie at level 8.
• Dark Waters (2019) ^note  Several graphic images of real life animal corpses, most notably the autopsy of a cow that succumbed to the effects of the Teflon precursor C8 in its drinking water, and brief images of DuPont lab rats and dogs exposed to the chemical. Other lower level violence and gore including comparatively less graphic depictions of humans affected by C8 (skull deformities, black teeth, etc.) and a man shooting a cow charging at him with a bolt gun, with a small puff of blood.
• The Day After (1983) ^note  the atomic attack sequence is probably closer to a nine. There exists even more graphic deleted content that would have easily made it a ten had it been included.
• Deadpool (2016) ^note  Messy headshots, bodies bloodily sliced in half.
• Death Machine (1994)
• Death Race 2000 (1975) ^note  Unrealistic, brief but gory smashing of heads and bodies by car.
• Death Race (2008) ^note  Chunky head explosion, very large blood splatters.
• Death Racers (2008)
• Death Sentence (2007) ^note  For the shoot out at the end; which includes a graphically dismembered leg, bloody shots to the jugular and eye.
• Deathwatch (2002)
• Death Wish II (1982) ^note  The horrific rape scenes give this one a level 8. Otherwise, it's probably a pretty hard 6.
• Death Wish V: The Face of Death (1994) ^note  It's largely rated this high for the scene with the henchman getting ground up in the meat grinder that's conveniently located in a clothing factory.
• The Debt Collector (2018) ^note  For the final shootout that has huge gushing blood squibs. Before that, it's a 5 for brutal beatdowns that send blood flying out of mouths and noses and soak clothes.
• Deep Red (1975) ^note  Gruesomely painful and bloody murders by stabbing, but not much on-screen gore. Dessicated but goreless corpse. Borderline 9 for the scenes where a woman is drowned in a boiling bathtub and is seen afterwards dying while her face is completely covered in 2nd degree burns, a man having his head crushed by a car and the villain defeated by being girrouted by her own necklace on an elevator with a brief shot of her neck being cut , but the framing of the scenes obscure the worst parts.
• The Deer Hunter (1978) ^note  Graphic spurting blood from headshots. Realistic war scenes with deaths from gunshots, bombings, and more than one death from being burned alive with a flamethrower. Helpless civilians are also shown being killed during these scenes.
• Def By Temptation (1990) ^note  Ghost with grisly mutilated arm, K's gibs erupting from a TV that ate him, and Temptation gorily exploding in her reptilian demon form. Other level 7 violence including graphic lascerations from long nails, a ghost with a gunshot eye, and other bloody images.
• Deliverance (1972) ^note  Rape, compound fracture.
• Deliver Us from Evil (2014) ^note  Vicious beating ending with a graphically destroyed eye. Dried, splayed, crucified cat. Biting off of own flesh. Many graphic cuts on bare flesh. Dead bodies of young children (including an infant) partially seen.
• Detention (2012) ^note  Very bloody dismemberment and gibbing. Movies within the movie show gorier violence simulated in-universe.
• Die Hard (1988) ^note  Large, gooey blood squibs.
• Die Hard 2 (1990) ^note  Large, gooey blood squibs, icicle to eye, graphic, bloody throat slitting.
• The Divide (2012) ^note  Graphic headshots and squibs. Body very bloodily explodes. Bags of chopped up body parts.
• Divorcing Jack (1998)
• Doctor Sleep (2019) ^note  For the brutal and prolonged (but mostly offscreen) murder of a young boy. Otherwise it's a 7.
• Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)^note  For a giant, non-humanoid monster having its eyeball ripped out, with the nerves being shown but no blood and the exceptionally violent and disturbing death of Black Bolt, wherein Wanda removes his mouth causing the extreme pressure of his supersonic screaming to gruesomely rip his head apart from the inside out with blood shooting out of his nose, his eyes filling up with blood and his brains sliding out of his caved-in head. Despite the general lack of gore, the horrific brutality of the scenes depicted (especially the latter) is more than enough to land it here on this level. Quite rare for a PG-13 film overall. Otherwise level 7 for the scene of a corpse being reanimated with bone and muscle clearly visible and other scenes of superhero violence laced with supernatural elements.
• Don Jon (2013) ^note  For a movie image of a topless girl gorily shot in the eye and breast with arrows. Otherwise a 0.
• Donnie Brasco (1997) ^note  For the basement hit, which involves graphic headshots and a graphic, fleshy gut shot.
• Doom (2005) ^note  Chunky gibs, eating of dismembered limbs, chunky exploding heads, large fleshy blood spurts.
• Doom: Annihilation (2019) ^note  Graphic blood spurting. Messy decapitated bodies. Random guts briefly seen falling from offscreen mutilation.
• Downfall (2004) ^note  Lots of brutal war violence, including to civilians, along with graphic depictions of suicide, particularly by gunshots to the head. Bloody surgeries, amputated limbs and other injuries are seen throughout. The murder of the Goebbels children is also depicted, with the children being methodically poisoned one by one. Hitler's dog, Blondi, is also shown being brutally poisoned with a cyanide capsule.
• Dreamcatcher (2003) ^note  Graphic, bloody holes burrowed in bodies. Body bloodily eaten in half. Creature bloodily bursts out of butt (seriously). Very graphically shot hand.
• Drive Angry (2011) ^note  Graphic blood splatters, dismemberment, eye impalement.
• Eastern Promises (2007) ^note  Brutal, messy neck slicing; eye stabbing.
• Edge of Darkness (2010) ^note  Graphic hole in head, graphic shot to the eye. Civilian woman graphically blasted with shotgun.
• 1898: Los Ultimos de Filipinas (2016)
• Elephant (2003) ^note  For the rather graphic, realistic depiction of a school shooting, with large blood sprays as various innocent people are shot and killed.
• Elvis (2022) ^note  For brief footage of Robert Kennedy's assassination with blood seen on his chest. Rare for a PG-13 film.
• Elysium (2013) ^note  Chunky gibs, large blood spurts, meaty face obliteration by explosion (bordering on 9) but looks more burned than shattered afterwards.
• The Empty Man (2020)^note For brief sight of a gorily mutilated dog corpse with bullet holes and a man shooting a coma victim in a hospital bed point blank, multiple times, with sight of the bullets entering the head, very brief sight of brain matter, and bloodspray on the wall behind him - borderline 9. Otherwise, a very hard 7 with sight of several teenagers who had hung themselves, some gory throat slittings, self-mutilation (a teenager stabs herself with a pair of scissors under the influence of a supernatural entity, grainy VHS footage shows a man digging out his intestines), etc.

• Flame & Citron (2008) ^note  This may be considered a relatively light 8. Movie opens with very bloody headshot (large spurt, wall stain and pool). Another has little blood but graphic head wound. Child is collateral damage in an ambush (we see doctors operate on bullet hole in torso).
• Fortress (1992) (1992) ^note  Graphic blood squibs. Bloody stomach explosions; including a victim with a huge, graphic hole blown in him. Bloody imaginary eye gouging. Very gory gibbing of blue-blooded cyborgs.
• Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare (1991) ^note  Freddy is very graphically blown up with a pipe bomb with gore flying everywhere. Would be a 9 if weren't for some cheesy effects accompanying the moment. Otherwise level 7.
• Free Fire (2017) ^note  Live victim bloodily has chunk of skull chipped, exposing some brain. Headshot obliterates a nose, some squibs graphic enough for this level. It's not a particularly hard 8, except for Stevo's death by getting his head run over by van, which borders on 9.
• Free State of Jones (2016) ^note  There are some grisly images, such as a soldier with a large part of his face blown off, a close-up of a wounded soldier's leg stump, and some cooked dogs.

Other level 7 violence including shootings with smaller amounts of blood spray and a nude woman being waterboarded.

• God Bless America (2011) ^note  High-Pressure Blood shootings (including a baby, although it happens offscreen and as a homicidal thought of Frank), Chloe's mother bloodily stabbed with a kitchen knife by Roxy and an ephebophile bloodlessly strangled to death with a wire.
• The Godfather (1972) ^note  For the real severed horse head and the grainy, real newspaper clippings of dead gangsters.
• The Godfather Part III (1990) ^note  For a graphic blood-spewing neck stabbing. Otherwise a level 6 with one headshot being a 7.
• God Is A Bullet (2023) ^note  Graphic shootings, including some innocent victims. Grisly slash wound, a brutal ass stabbing, jaw blown off (semi-obscured by dust cloud), dismemberment, a bloody bisection with no explicit gore, head obliterations with CGI blood in dark lighting, woman is non-graphically raped by two men at once.
• Goodfellas (1990) ^note  Very bloody headshot, another with profuse spray, victim brutally and bloodily stomped; and then stabbed repeatedly while incapacitated.
• The Good, The Bad, The Weird (2008) ^note  Some graphic blood squibs, brutal fingore.
• Gothika (2003) ^note  Rape. Otherwise, level 7 for gross arm lacerations and photographs of bloody dismembered limbs.
• Gremlins (1984) ^note  It reaches this level due to the surprisingly graphic deaths of some of the gremlins such as one getting shredded in a mixing bowl (which results in small pieces and blood splattering onto the nearby walls), another exploding after being forced into a microwave, and another getting decapitated. Stripes death also reaches this level where he melts with some red blood and flesh being visible. The things keeping it from getting to a higher level are the Alien Blood of the gremlins, the brevity of the kills, and the dark comedic edge. A surprising example of a PG movie at this level.
• The Grey (2011) ^note  Throats graphically eaten out; vivid bloody injuries.
• Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes (1984) ^note  For Sabor torn apart and the discovered autopsied monkeys which border on 9 (and it's a PG-rated movie). Other violence like gunshots and penetrated arrows into bodies are on level 6.
• Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023) ^note  It ranks here for the scene where Gamora peels off the High Evolutionary's facemask, revealing his grotesquely mauled face that Rocket tore to shreds many years prior. Overall surprisingly rare for a PG-13 film, especially so for a Marvel movie. Otherwise a hard 7 for fantasy violence with quite some bloodshed, graphic body horror, and scenes of animals being experimented on, with very strong and upsetting but non-gory depictions of animal cruelty.

• Halloween II (1981) ^note  It's a light level 8 for a very, very badly charred corpse. Most of the rest of the carnage is probably on level 7.

• High Life (2019) ^note  Multiple rapes. Otherwise, 7 for a grievous arm slash wound a head exploding with only blood splatter seen and a face being badly slashed.
• A History of Violence (2005) ^note  Nose graphically smashed, very graphic headshot with victim gurgling before death, graphic burst of blood from shotgun shot. A brutal spousal rape. Other brutal level 7 violence.

An unarmed man gets shot, and his girlfriend takes him back to their motel room and extracts the bullet, again with grisly detail.
• The Howling (1981) ^note Small blood sprays and spatters present during shootings. A woman is forced to watch a film of a woman being raped; it may just be simulated in-universe but it looks realistic. A werewolf's hand is graphically hacked off with an axe and we see the bloody severed limb, and later the arm stump. A woman's throat is ripped out by a werewolf; the death scene itself isn't very graphic and largely bloodless, though we later see her corpse, which is a lot more gory. We see a partially mutilated corpse, including the skin on the chest stripped to the bone. The aftermath of Eddie's face being burnt with acid is gruesome. We briefly see bits of brains from an autopsy. A man graphically pulls a bullet from his head, with a bit of brain and flesh attached.
• Ilang: The Wolf Brigade (2019) ^note  Just enough blood splatter from repeated gunfire to get here.
• In a Valley of Violence (2016) ^note  A very graphic sliced throat and an unarmed man shot repeatedly with level 7 squibs.
• In Bruges (2008) ^note  Child shot offscreen with bullet wound seen in forehead. Bloody aftermath of head explosion. Body graphically splattered on ground. Graphic blood squibs.
• Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984) ^note  Mola Ram (Amrish Puri) rips out a defenseless man's heart with his bare hands (the audience sees the hand entering the man's bare chest in close-up). Black magic keeps the victim alive long enough to be slowly lowered into a pit of lava. Neither act is bloody or gory but very disturbing and shocking for a PG rated movie even back then (it is one of the reasons for the PG-13 rating's creation). The titular temple appears to be decorated with human pelts, but these are not shown in close-up. The dinner scene features gory severed eyeballs and a piece of a monkey's brain.
• The Interview (2014) ^note  Extremely bloody headshot, crushing by tank, fingers bloodily bitten off.
• In the Line of Duty III: Force of the Dragon (1988) ^note  There's quite a bit of graphic blood, with one scene showing the aftermath of a heavily-bandaged man being run over by a car (with his corpse covered in what appears to be either bloodied bandages or entrails) from a medium distance.
• In the Mouth of Madness (1994) ^note  Bloody and violent attacks and murders (usually with axes), people graphically transforming into Lovecraftian monstrosities.
• Into the Blue (2005) ^note  Another surprisingly brutal PG-13 movie that reaches this level. Multiple scenes of corpses eaten by sharks, and at least three examples of Cruel and Unusual Death in the same - most notably when a man gets harpooned through his helmet with a considerable puff of blood in the water, and then eaten by sharks.

• Judgment at Nuremberg (1961) ^note  It gets rated this high for the actual Holocaust footage it shows.
• Kate (2021) ^note  Graphic headshots and throat cutting, brutal stabbings, a decapitation; goon has their fingers sliced off, their throat sliced and then stabbed through the face. A pretty hard 8.
• Kick-Ass (2010) ^note  Graphic blood spurting from shootings and stabbings. A very chunky gibbing.
• Kick-Ass 2 (2013) ^note  A man's hand is graphically dismembered, with a lot of CGI blood spraying from the stump. 2 cops graphically killed by lawnmower with geysers of blood. A woman is graphically stabbed with several shards of glass with CGI blood sprays accompanying almost every stab (an instance of level 7 acts stacking).
• Kill Bill: Vol. 2 (2004) ^note  Nowhere near as violent as Volume 1 overall, and would rate around a 6 on the violence scale if not for the two eye-snatching scenes, and the scene immediately after the second where the Bride crushes Elle Driver's eye underfoot.

• Last Night in Soho (2021) ^note  Several face and neck stabbings that cause torrential bloodspray, most notably brief sight of a rape at knifepoint followed by the killer using the knife and later being covered in blood. A borderline 9, but the quick cuts, relative lack of gory detail, and the fact that most of the victims are either delusions or ghosts lessen the impact. Otherwise, level 7 for some less detailed stabbings, a woman getting hit by a car with brief sight of her slightly mangled face, and heavily implied sexual coercion/assault throughout.
• The Last of the Mohicans (1992) ^note  It's a pretty light 8, here mainly for when Magua rips out a soldier's heart and some brief scalping.
• The Last Sharknado: It's About Time (2018) ^note  The animated intro sequence borders on 9 for brief, but extremely graphic brutal gore. The rest of the movie contains a scene of a shark very graphically sliced in half in slow-motion and two very graphic arm dismemberments with a lot of blood spraying. The over-the-top and comedic nature of the violence lessens the impact.

• Limitless (2011) ^note  The unrated version has slightly more gory detail, but sits here (and is a hard 8 at that) for sight of a corpse post-headshot, with a very bloody bullet hole and a small piece of brain matter near the wound; this is not dwelled upon long enough for a 9. Meanwhile, the PG-13 version is a light 8 for brief sight of a pair of severed hands in a box with bones and tendons visible, and a leaky gut shot with later sight of a man drinking blood on the floor from the resulting wound to get a drug into his system.
• Logan's Run (1976) ^note  For the surprisingly graphic melting of a runner's corpse early on in the movie.

• The Lost Boys (1987) ^note Generally a 7, although the "death by stereo" bumps it to an 8 (a vampire is shot by an arrow into a stereo, electrocuted, and explodes, including a graphic head explosion and a brief shot of smoking body parts). The vampires killing a group of surfers is very bloody with some mild gore (body with its throat torn out, a man's head is bitten with spraying blood, a man's scalp is torn off) though the scene has low lighting and uses quick cuts rather than lingering on the violence. A vampire is graphically staked with lots of blood-spray, although it looks more brown than red. A vampire falls into a bath of holy water and disintegrates; we briefly see his burnt face though a lot is concealed by smoke (blood then begins erupting from numerous pipes and sinks).
• The Loved Ones (2009) ^note  A dead man with a gory and mutilated face is seen from a moderate distance. Otherwise level 7.
• The Lovely Bones (2009)^note  Very brutal for a PG-13 rated movie. A serial killer mops up an extremely bloody mess from his floor, leaves out a straight razor covered in blood, and soaks in a nearby bathtub with even more blood; brief graphic images of corpses; a serial killer carrying his latest victim in a body bag and hiding the body in a safe; an icicle makes a man slip and fall, breaking his neck, and we see the contorted body. The fact that most of the serial killer’s victims are children does not help matters.
• M3GAN (Unrated) (2023) ^note  A young boy's ear is graphically torn off and he is then hit by a car with blood smear seen on the road. A man has his jugular sliced with profuse blood spray.
• MacGruber (2010) ^note  Throats graphically ripped out, very bloody shootings, villain gorily blown up. It's all played for laughs.
• Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior (1981) ^note  A woman is stripped topless by a group of bandits, after which she is raped by one; offscreen save for one very brief shot of the bandit on top of her. Otherwise level 7.
• Mad Max: Fury Road (2015) ^note  Explosive arrow to stomach briefly but very graphically exposes a man's ribcage and viscera. Another character's jaw is ripped off with a gush of blood and sight of his corpse with the graphic injury visible. Borderline 9, the very quick pace and lack of lingering focus keep it here instead.

• Miracle at St. Anna (2008) ^note  Graphic blood spurts and splatters; including headshots and dismemberment. Many civilians murdered, including children; the most extreme instance being the church massacre, making this a hard 8.
• Mishima A Life In Four Chapters (1985) ^note  For Mishima committing Seppuku, with very brief sight of his entrails falling out as he draws the blade across his stomach. Although the gore is not detailed, so it's a light 8.
• Mission to Mars (2000) ^note  For the poor bastard getting dismembered by a twister on the martian surface. The other scenes like Woody's death by space freezing are on level 6. Rare example of a PG-rated movie made after the PG-13 rating's creation on this level.
• The Mist (2007) ^note  Graphic flesh ripping, dismemberment. Of particular note is the MP's death, where he is used as a vessel for the Grey Widower spider and his head bursts open, releasing hundreds of baby spiders amidst the blood, and David shooting his wife and children. Borderline 9.
• Mobsters (1991) ^note  There's plenty of splattering, gushing, and pooling blood, including from a man's bare face being carved with a knife.
• Mongol: The Rise of Genghis Khan (2007)
• Monkey Man (2024) ^note  Incredibly brutal and bloody stabbings, slashings, and beatings. Brief news footage of actual beatings of peaceful protestors by Hindu nationalists. Burn scars on a child's hands. A very hard 8.
• Moonwalkers (2016) ^note  Graphic blood squibs, cartoonishly gory head explosions.

• Mr. Brooks (2007) ^note  Gooey blood squibs, profusely spraying slashed neck and jugular.
• Ms. 45 (1981) ^note  A woman is raped twice in short succession but these aren't too graphic or exploitative, especially not compared with other films in its subgenre. A severed hand is briefly grinded up (looks unrealistic). Several unarmed people are bloodily shot at a party.
• Munich (2005) ^note  Stabbing in eye, graphic blood spurting (once on a naked woman), gory severed arm after a bombing.
• My Soul to Take (2010) ^note  For a throat cutting with tons of gushing and splattering CGI blood. The other killings and stabbings are on level 7.
• Napoleon (2023) ^note  It's largely rated this high for two instances of horse-related gore. The first one is when a horse gorily receives a direct hit from a cannonball with some spilling viscera (it borders on level 9), and the second is the image of a dead, frozen, skinned horse being prepared as food for starving soldiers. Violence directed at humans generally tops out at levels 7 and 8 (such as people being mangled by cannonfire).
• Nightmare Alley (2021) (2021) ^note  For the deaths of Grindel (an exceptionally brutal beating that leaves Grindel’s tooth in Stan’s hand, borderline 9) and Anderson (Stan runs him over with his car multiple times, and the gore is briefly seen), and Ritter shooting Stan in the ear, with lots of bloody detail. Other level 7 violence including a sudden gunshot with a minor blood spurt, a man biting a chicken’s head off with some bloody detail, a couple of brutal carnival tricks. For the record, the 1947 film adaptation is a 3.
• A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010) (2010) ^note  Face has eyes gorily stabbed out. Victim has several very deep and gushing gashes sliced into them. Person brutally carves their own neck open. Etc.
• A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2: Freddy's Revenge (1985) ^note  Freddy very graphically cuts himself out of a teen boy, entrails are briefly seen (borderline 9; somewhat fake-looking effects, though).
• A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987) ^note  Freddy sadistically uses a teen boy as a human puppet; the boy's arms and legs are cut open offscreen, after which his veins are graphically pulled out onscreen to be used as strings. Borderline 9.
• A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master (1988) ^note  A teen girl is torturously turned into a cockroach; first her arms are very graphically broken at the elbows after which giant cockroach legs grow out of the stumps, severing her forearms; later her face is very graphically torn off when she pulls it out of sap she fell face-first into; some gore is shown, this scene is borderline 9. An electrical beam graphically burns a hole through Freddy's torso (visible gore) but he quickly regenerates. When Freddy dies, his head is very graphically pulled apart.
• A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child (1989) (R-rated version) ^note  A teen boy is torturously fused with a motorcycle: Cables graphically pierce his skin and his scalp is briefly, but very graphically, seen starting to tear off. A teen girl is bound to a chair, disemboweled (offscreen) and force-fed her insides: Her stomach is not directly seen, but pieces of gore are shown being shoved into her mouth.
• Ninja (2009) ^note  A very graphic dismemberment of an arm, with a lot of CGI blood spraying from the stump. The rest of the violence is hard level 7.
• Nobody (2021) ^note  It contains lots of blood splatter and some brutal damage to bare flesh. Leg graphically blown off by IED.
• Nope (2022) ^note  A child's face is - offscreen, but audibly, and the gruesome adult aftermath is shown later - brutally eaten by a chimpanzee. Dozens of innocents, including children, are painfully digested by Jean Jacket, again audibly but offscreen.
• No Country for Old Men (2007) ^note  Shot to neck with profusely spewing blood. Graphic, bloody strangulation. Arm graphically shot off (it dangles gruesomely for a bit), other level 7 violence.
• Not Another Teen Movie (2001) ^note  Two images of characters comically torn in half with guts visible but no real weight or serious reaction.
• Oldboy (2013) (2013) ^note  Borderline 9. Very graphic headshot suicides. Not very bloody but insanely brutal, bone-crunchng, curb stomping killing of teens just playing soccer and battering of armed thugs. Graphic hammer to head (bloody and victim howls the whole time until the hammer is yanked out). Man bloodily massacres his family with shotgun. Skin carving torture followed by salt torture; the victim's (unintentionally?) comedic performance lessens the impact.
• On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969) ^note  For the Mook being ground up by snow-blower, with blood and chunks seen flying. Incredibly, this is rated PG.
• Operation: Endgame (2010)
• The Other Boleyn Girl (2008) ^note  Mostly ranks here because of a scene of onscreen rape (a man strikes a woman across the face before assaulting her while she cries in pain; it's brief but still quite intense). It otherwise ranks around Level 5/6, with violence being infrequent until near the ending (earlier stuff includes a man seen unconscious with minor cuts after falling from his horse, two non-graphic childbirth scenes, and a woman finding blood on her sheet from a possible miscarriage). A pregnant woman has a late-term miscarriage; we see the back of her dress covered in blood and a bloodied sheet holding the fetus, but not the fetus itself. A man is beheaded which technically happens onscreen, but anything gory is blocked by crowds. A woman is beheaded though the scene cuts away to another woman's reaction at the last moment; we do see a top-down shot of the woman's corpse, a pool of blood and the severed head, though as it's from a distance it's not very gory.
• Outcast (2014) ^note  Mainly for when a soldier bloodily gets a spear thrown in his eye.
• Outrage (2010) ^note  Large blood squibs, brutal grinding of tongue (no tongue seen but tons of gushing blood), etc.
• Pan's Labyrinth (2006) ^note  It's a somewhat hard level 8 for showing a man having his face bloodily bashed in by a bottle, quite a bit of blood splatter and graphic bullet impacts, and some other grotesqueries, some bloody.
• The Patriot (2000) ^note  A couple of instances of cannonballs graphically dismembering and decapitating soldiers, with a lot of blood splatter. Otherwise level 7.
• Pearl (2022)^note Man is stabbed with a pitchfork, woman is repeatedly hit with an axe and then dismembered and fed to an alligator (borderline 9), dream spot of a man bursting into ludicrous gibs, woman is pushed towards a fireplace and suffers third degree burns. The corpse of the last one (and also of a man with a less violent death by Vorpal Pillow) is prepped up at the dinner table. A goose is impaled by a pitchfork and fed to an alligator.
• Perdita Durango (1997)
• The Pianist (2002) ^note  Countless scenes of brutal, sometimes bloody cruelty. Civilians laid on ground and shot in the head, crippled elderly man thrown off a balcony and splattered on the ground, young children shown very bloody from apparent firing squad execution, emaciated bodies shown rotting in crowded streets, etc.
• La piel que habito (2011) ^note  2 graphic rape scenes, one being particularly grotesque and bordering on 9 if not for the victim playing along in hopes it would help her escape another threat, and a graphic slit throat. Level 6 shootings.
• Pitch Black (2000) ^note  Graphic blood splatters from gunshots, impalement, eaten flesh and heads. Borderline 9 as gore is briefly visible as a character is eaten in half and when bugs have their grey guts sliced out.
• Point Break (1991) ^note  A light 8, with squibs just graphic enough for it.
• Pontypool (2008)
• Postal (2007) ^note  Chunky gibs, many kills with bloody squibs; including innocent bystanders and children; and a man raped to death by 1000 monkeys. It's all very comedic and cartoonish.
• Priest (2011) (2011) ^note  The unrated version has very bloody dismemberment and decapitation, and the theatrical version still reaches this for the gory animated intro.
• Primeval (2007) ^note  Graphic blood squibs. Graphic (but not very gory) half of eaten body. Graphic neckstump after execution by decapitation. Creature attacks cause graphic dismemberment and copious splattered blood; the final kill (involving a body torn in half the head popped like a balloon) would be a 9 if it wasn't obscured by the darkness and water.
• Prometheus (2012) ^note  A man's arm is broken; the bone sticks out briefly, but very graphically. An intense scene in which an alien creature is removed from a woman's abdomen via automated caesarean; the abdomen is very graphically sliced open with a laser after which the wound is spread open and the alien is removed; some gore is seen including her umbilical cord.
• The Promise (2016) ^note  A med school human dissection is partially shown (and it's not as gory as it could've been), with an organ being removed and some liquid splattering on one of the med students.
• Pulp Fiction (1994) ^note  For Marvin's very messy headshot with blood spattering all over the place and covering the characters in it and Marcellus getting raped and his rapist being bloodily shot in the (covered) junk. Other level 6 violence.
• The Purge: Anarchy (2014) ^note  Frequent graphic and very bloody shootings.
• A Quiet Place (2018) ^note  For the partially seen, disemboweled old woman and the startlingly gory headshot of one of the monsters (complete with red blood).
• Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) ^note  The famous scene where one of the villains gorily melts into a skeleton, as well as another one's head exploding, get it here.
• The Raid Redemption (2012) ^note  Brutal, sometimes repeated stabbing and shooting. Tied up victims bloodily shot in the head. Preteen boy takes bloody bullet to the neck. A brutal throat cutting. Bullet wound arduously pried to no avail.
• Rampage (2018) ^note  A man's bisected and gory corpse is graphically, but very briefly seen. Would possibly get a 9 if it wasn't so brief. Rated PG-13.
• Ran (1985) ^note  For the sacking of the Third Castle, which involves many bloody killings and suicides. Later on there is a very bloody decapitation.
• [REC] (2007) (As well as its American remake: Quarantine.) ^note  For a graphic neck biting and falling victim with lots of blood and some torn flesh seen. A smashed rat in the latter.
• Red Dragon (2002) ^note  For the grisly images of the murder victims, with a bloody gunshot wound to the head and their eyes stabbed with shards of glass.
• Red Sparrow (2018) ^note  Sexual assault. Otherwise, 7 for bloody headshots, bloody strangulation, bloody dead body with patches of skin missing, thin pieces of skin carved off of victim.
• Red State (2011) ^note  Graphic shot to the eye. Graphic blood splatters. Victim bound, then wrapped completely in celophane before being executed with a headshot; with pouring blood.
• The Relic (1997)
• Repulsion (1965) ^note  A hard 8, not as a result of blood or gore, but as a result of numerous horrifying imagined rapes and one real attempted rape. Besides this, the movie scores a hard 6 due to the rotten rabbit carcass, and the rather bloody repeated stabbings of the attempted rapist landlord.
• Reservoir Dogs (1992) ^note  Victim bloodily bleeding out in horrible agony throughout film, with lots of pooling. Infamous torture scene with offscreen ear severing (we see aftermath).
• Resident Evil Film Series (2002-2017) ^note  Graphic headshots, decapitation, dismemberments, Body Horror (especially on dogs), flesh rending, impalement, slicing, blood spurting, dicing up by lasers. Some entries border on 9.
• Ricochet (1991) ^note  Graphic shootings including innocents. Innocent brutally sliced with a buzzsaw. Graphic impalement. Man is drugged and raped.
• Road House (1989) ^note  For Jimmy's death, where his throat is ripped out, and Brad's death, where he is shot multiple times by multiple people over a table. Otherwise a 7 for numerous brutal, bloody bar fights including broken bottles, improvised weapons and a few stabbings.
• RoboCop 2 (1990) ^note  A dead man's spine is surgically removed, with brains and eyes attached: This is offscreen, but we do see the top of the head graphically removed, and the gory spine in a water tank afterwards. We also see the dead man's hollow head afterwards. This scene is borderline 9; the spine still looks unrealistic and cartoonish enough for an 8. A restrained man is killed by getting graphically vivisected with a lot of blood spurting, although this is brief. A man is killed by being graphically shot in the eye through a sniper scope, with a lot of blood splatter visible.
• Rolling Thunder (1977) ^note  It's a soft level 8 for the split-second shot of a man's bare arm bloodily exploding from a shotgun blast.
• Rubber (2011) ^note  Messy, but unrealistic remains of exploded heads.
• The Running Man (1987) ^note  For a semi-gory exploding head and a strangulation by barbed wire. A light 8.
• Running Scared (2006) (2006) ^note  Mainly for the shootout in the beginning, with bloody crotch shooting and a graphic execution shot to the head. The rest of the movie is probably a 6.
• Satan's Little Helper (2004) ^note  A man is graphically disemboweled. This would be level 9, if weren't for the over-the-top and comedic nature of this scene.
• Savior (1998)
• Saw II (2005) ^note  Graphic headshot, face impaled by mask, messy throat cutting, a brutal but not very gory burning alive, head bludgeoned by spike bat, wrists slashed, patches of skin carved off.
• Scarface (1983) (1983) ^note  Mainly for the chainsaw torture scene. Otherwise, on the 6 to 7 range.
• Scary Movie (2000) ^note A light 8. A man leaning on a glory hole has his head "impaled" by a penis (realistic-looking prosthetic), entering one ear and exiting the other. A woman intentionally gives herself a compound fracture before she's beheaded offscreen; we see the bloody severed head (which continues talking). The goriness is off-set due to the violence being very over-the-top, unrealistic and played for laughs. There are some bloody, Level 5-6 stabbings and shootings, again all played for laughs
• Schindler's List (1993) ^note  Innocent victims executed by gunshot to head with realistic blood spurting. Holocaust violence; including children.
• Scream 2 (1998) ^note  Bloody stabbing in the temple. Rebar impaled in someone's eye.
• Screamers (1995) ^note  For the soldier getting dismembered by the Type 1 Screamers at the beginning. Other violence like shooting and flaming against human child-like androids, Becker (who's also a robot) getting sliced in half, Ross getting stabbed with a knife and the last Jessica robot burnt by the escape rocket's engines are on level 6, bordering on 7.

• Seed of Chucky (2004) ^note  A man is graphically decapitated with a string in an over-the-top way; a lot of blood sprays. A jar of acid falls on a man, graphically dissolving a part of his face. A man is disemboweled; mostly offscreen, but we do see his intestines flop on to the floor by the end of the process. A living doll has all of his limbs dismembered and finally decapitated with an axe; graphic and very bloody. The comedic tone brings the movie down from a 9 to a hard 8.
• Se7en (1995) ^note  Gory flesh chunk taken out of body, horribly emaciated live victim. If the killings were show on screen, however, it would very easily be a 10.
• Seven Psychopaths (2012) ^note  Gooey blood squibs; gory but comedic head explosion; bloody, partly obscured, sawing off of head; victims hands bloodily stabbed to table and burned alive (without gore).
• Sgt. Kabukiman N.Y.P.D. (1991) ^note  Onscreen rape scene and the cutting up of a hooker and pimp in a giant sushi roll. The rest of the movie is a 5.
• Shark Night (2011) ^note  For when a shark is graphically impaled; causing many bloody chunks of flesh to explode out in 3D.
• Sharknado (2013) ^note  A man's arm is graphically torn off by a shark; a lot of blood sprays from the stump. A couple of very graphic and bloody mutilations of sharks (sliced in half, head partially/fully blown off). The over-the-top and comedic nature of the violence lessens the impact.
• Sharknado 2: The Second One (2014) ^note  Sharks are very graphically and bloodily sliced and torn in half. A woman's face is partially torn off by a shark in graphic fashion. The over-the-top and comedic nature of the violence lessens the impact.
• Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No! (2015) ^note  Slightly stronger than the previous two movies. A few graphic (at times very graphic) dismemberments and decapitations of humans with large sprays of blood. Sharks are very graphically blown apart and sliced in half with a lot of blood and gore shown. A man with the lower half of his body missing is graphically and gorily shown. The over-the-top and comedic nature of the violence lessens the impact.
• Sharknado: The 4th Awakens (2016) ^note  Very graphic and bloody scenes of sharks being decapitated, sliced in half and torn to pieces. A few graphic and bloody scenes of humans being decapitated or having their faces partly torn off. The over-the-top and comedic nature of the violence lessens the impact.
• Sharknado 5: Global Swarming (2017) ^note  A few very graphic and bloody scenes of sharks being sliced in half. The over-the-top and comedic nature of the violence lessens the impact.
• Shin Kamen Rider (2023) ^note  Torrential blood spurts (though not to the degree of other mature-oriented Kamen Rider media), and some graphic body horror, notably the grotesque half-insect and half-human forms of Hongo and Chou/Butterfly-Augment without their masks.

• Silence (2016) ^note  Several lengthy scenes of innocents being tortured through various cruel means - boiling water splashed to the face, crucifixion, throat cutting, burning alive, etc. A sudden beheading of an innocent victim with brief view of the head rolling across the ground and multiple shots of the headless body being dragged away, leaving a large bloodstain.
• The Silence of the Lambs (1991) ^note  For Buffalo Bill's skin suit and the hollowed out cop. The latter of which could be a 9 if any organs were clearly visible.
• Silent Hill Revelation (2012) ^note  Bloody slicing in half, slow-mo decapitation. Slicing off swaths of flesh from hanging carcasses and eating of said flesh. Graphic squibs from stabbing. Prisoners getting both arms bloodily sliced off. Would be a 9 if the CGI gore was more convincing.
• The Silent Mountain (2014)
• Silent Trigger (1996) ^note  Very large gooey squibs, including a straight up gory hole punched into a target.
• The Sixth Sense (1999) ^note  For the ghost of a teen boy with a gory gunshot exit wound in his head. Otherwise a 5.
• Sleepaway Camp II: Unhappy Campers (1988) ^note  A teen boy is killed offscreen with a chainsaw; later, his corpse is seen with his face partially cut off (graphic, borderline 9).
• Sleepy Hollow (1999) (1999) ^note  Graphic neck stump autopsy, body bloodily (but not gorily) cut in half, iron maiden with ocean of blood and head falling out.
• Smokin' Aces (2007) ^note  Very bloody splatters; including headshots and chainsawing. No explicit gore though.
• Smokin' Aces 2: Assassins' Ball (2010) ^note  Ditto.
• Sniper Ghost Shooter (2016) ^note  A very brief but graphic head bursting. Otherwise level 7.
• Snowpiercer (2013) ^note  Fairly graphic blood spurts from slicing. Slightly bloody shooting/killing of pregnant woman.
• Snow White & the Huntsman (2012) ^note For a short scene where Ravenna is seen eating raw bird's heart; we see a close-up of the dead birds with their chests ripped open, which is surprisingly gory for a PG-13 movie. The rest of the film is a hard 5. There are some intense medieval battles with high body counts, but little blood is shown. There are some mildly bloody stabbings. Ravenna poisons the king to incapacitate him and stabs him in the chest; we clearly see the knife sticking out of his bloody chest. Non-graphic allusions to rape; Finn subtly implies that he raped Eric's wife before killing her, Finn creepily strokes Snow White's chest before she slashes his face with a nail and it's indicated Ravenna was raped by a king who abducted her. When Snow White is poisoned, she collapses and seizes, coughing and gasping for breath, before appearing to die. A fight scene ends with a villain being impaled on a tree branch; his death is prolonged and painful, though not graphic. Ravenna steps into a fire and we briefly see her skin redden and blister before it heals.
• Soldier (1998)
• South Wind (2018): ^note  A rough interrogation of an abducted man escalates until one of the abductors explicitly gouges the man’s eye out and then brutally kills him with a set of keys. Amidst a bloody shootout, one unarmed man gets shot in the face, after which he continues to stagger around and attempts to shout (unsuccessfully due to the gaping wounds on his face) until getting shot dead a couple of minutes later. And most infamously, one scene shows a naked carcass hanging from the ceiling with a dildo in his mouth (a scene of how he got there would have been a solid 10). Also, the mini-series sequel briefly shows male genital mutilation, though mostly obscured by the dark.
• Species (1995) ^note  For the woman who has her spine torn out and Sil's head exploding both of which border on 9. Otherwise level 7.
• Splice (2009) ^note  Slug-like creatures tear each other apart, splattering blood everywhere. Creature is impaled and then has their head brutally bashed with a rock. Dren raping their own mother.
• Split (2017) ^note  For a couple of graphically eaten bodies of innocent victims with some gory viscera briefly seen. Borderline 9; rare for a PG-13 movie.

• Sympathy for Lady Vengeance (2005) ^note  Rape, repeated offscreen torture of villainous character (only very bloody plastic mat and killing blow seen), short clips of children being killed. Would be a 10 if acts were shown explicitly.
• Taxi Driver (1976) ^note  For the violent climax. Including a hand graphically blown apart and jugular spray.
• The Terminator (1984) ^note  The Terminator kills a man by tearing his heart out: Shown graphically, but briefly; the heart is briefly shown in the Terminator's blood-covered hand. The Terminator removes his damaged human eyelid, revealing a robot eye underneath: Mostly offscreen, but we do see one graphic shot of the process and the removed eyelid afterwards. A soft 8.

• Things to Do in Denver When You're Dead (1995) ^note  Graphic blood spurts, including headshots. Bloody anal torture.
• Threads (1984) ^note  Multiple shots of dead human and animal corpses subject to radiation. A man’s leg is amputated without anesthetic. A woman gives birth and bites her umbilical cord with her teeth. Borderline 9, especially since many of the victims are defenseless people and children, but the surreal presentation keeps it from going any higher.
• Titane (2021) ^note  Man brutally stabbed in the ear with hairpin; resulting in convulsions, mouth foaming, and eye rolling. Innocent victim has their jaw brutally mangled offscreen with result seen briefly from a moderate distance (borderline 9). Hallucination of a small child's charred body. Brief head surgery of a child after a car accident. Pregancy related body horror with motor oil instead of blood; including skin tearing from growing metal plate.
• To Live and Die in L.A. (1985) ^note  A couple of graphic headshots (one an execution after a chest shot) and a bloody crotch shot.
• The Toolbox Murders (1978) ^note  Naked woman bloodily shot in chest and head with nailgun. Another graphically stabbed in the arm and chest. Another bashed in the head with a hammer. Other graphic chest stabbings.
• The Tribe (2014) ^note  Graphic rape scene (borderline 9 as the sex is likely unsimulated, but it's not filmed in an exploitative way). Lengthy back alley abortion that's not visually gruesome but the subject is in great pain the entire time. Heads bashed in with nightstands, some are bloody and have dents visible in the face but it's not up close or gory.

• Tropic Thunder (2008) ^note  It would be a level 9 if the carnage shown at the beginning was real in-universe, and not just special effects for a movie being filmed. Graphic obliteration by landmine leaving a mangled head behind.
• Troy (2004) ^note  The director's cut contains a graphic decapitation and a leg dismemberment. The theatrical version and the rest of the violence is level 7.
• True Romance (1993) ^note  Graphic blood squibs, including to the groin and eye. Villain is burned, bashed in the head, and blasted several times by shotgun while he's down.
• Ulzana's Raid (1972) ^note  It gets rated this high for the scene where a recently carved-out human organ (perhaps a heart?) is tossed around by some of the Apache raiders. There are also several level 7 acts of violence and images.
• Under the Skin (2013) ^note  For the chute of what appears to be bloody viscera when a victim is reduced to a hollow pelt of skin; and the drawn out rape of the invader (even though she doesn't have genitalia to penetrate) before being burned alive in her true form. Borderline 9, but the abstract elements keep it at bay.
• Underwater (2019) ^note  Ludicrous Gibs from a suit malfunction, we see lots of blood and briefly gore chunks and a severed limb or two (slightly out of focus). Character briefly has their arm graphically torn off and their head then explodes in their suit from the exposure. Rare PG-13 bordering on 9.
• Underworld (2003) (2003) ^note  Graphic blood spurts, torn flesh, head sliced clean in half.
• Underworld: Rise of the Lycans (2009) ^note  Brutal, bloody impalement, slicing, dismemberment at limbs and torso, decapitation, etc.
• Unhinged (2020) ^note  Victim bloodily bashed in the face several times before being stabbed in the neck, forming a large blood pool. Another severely battered victim is stabbed in the stomach several times. A brutal, graphic eye stabbing. Real Life news footage shows non-graphic acts of violence including hit and runs, riots and beatings.
• Universal Soldier (1992) ^note  Graphic blood squibs, including headshots. Bad guy impaled, then ground up offscreen (we see a couple of flying chunks).
• The Unknown Soldier (2017) (2017) ^note  A couple graphic dismemberments. Troop bloodily blinded in both eyes by shrapnel and then later shot. Some graphic torn flesh of a dead man's face. Headshot with some noticeable brain matter. The novel it is based on is a 10.
• The Untouchables (1987) ^note  A very graphic headshot that leaves an elevator completely painted in blood. Character shot repeatedly with lots of blood on their body and trailing as they crawl away. Aftermath of a bat bludgeoning shows lots of blood and a grievous wound. Other level 7 violence.
• V for Vendetta (2007) ^note  Huge blood splashes from slashings, and a shooting of a child.
• Very Bad Things (1998) ^note  Stabbing leaves room drenched in blood. We hear the victim wail in great pain from offscreen. Body parts seen in bloody bags. A very graphic collision by van that leaves character crippled.

• World War Z (2013) (Unrated) ^note  Arm chopped off with profuse spewing blood, bitten necks with gushing blood, etc. The theatrical cut is a light 7 for a couple of slightly bloody headshots.
• Wrath of Man (2021) ^note Here because of a couple of headshots with brains splattered on the floor (execution, brief) and a wall (standoff, messy); and Otherwise, a level 7 with lesser but bloody headshots and torture by beating and asphyxiation.
• Wrong Turn (2003) ^note  A mutilated corpse is graphically shown: An arm and a leg have been dismembered, some gore shown briefly (borderline 9). A graphic semi-decaptitation with an axe, accompanied by blood splatter. A corpse is graphically decapitated. Human livers are seen in a jar.
• You're Next (2013) ^note  Bloody blender to head. Jugular cut open and followed up with brief eye stabbing, man brutally stabbed with multiple tools, face bashed in with brick (the shadows prevent this from hitting 9), head busted open with clawhammer, victim smashed through glass twice before a bloody axe to the face.
• You Were Never Really Here (2018) ^note  Very bloody suicide by shot to the head. Gaping, very bloody neck wound. Graphic eye wound, hostage very bloodily shot in the head.
