Violetta Castillo

Played by: Martina Stoessel, Cristina Valenzuela (English)

Film Appearances: Tini: The New Life of Violetta

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/5c21b349_4d82_4375_a391_3870cdb380a5.png

Violetta is a bright and full of life girl, but lonely and overprotected by her father. She possesses a unique voice that she inherited from her mother, but she doesn't know it yet. From her father she inherited a love of reading and great intelligence. Violetta is spontaneous and sincere when it comes to saying what she thinks. She just wants to find her place in the world. Upon returning to Buenos Aires, she began taking private piano lessons at Studio 21, a prestigious music academy. There she discovers a new world that will lead her to find her own destiny and her family history. At first, her classmates see her as a shy and somewhat nerdy girl, but they will soon discover her true personality.

  • The Ace: She is good at singing, songwriting and dancing.
  • Born Lucky: Everything goes right for her. She has many friends and fans and is the most talented girl at her school. You can understand why Ludmila is jealous of her. Ludmila lampshades this. This starts to get deconstructed in season 2 when almost everything seems to go wrong for poor Violetta: Leon breaks up with her because of Diego, her aunt Angie leaves the Studio and Buenos Aires for another job. If that wasn't bad enough, she just found out that her father disguised himself as another person in order to spy on and be close to her, and that Diego was scheming with Ludmila to have Violetta expelled in exchange of knowing the identity of his father, even though he ended up falling in love with her for real. These situations make her feel very depressed to the point that she almost can't bring herself to perform on the final show. She gets better, though.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Behaves this way towards León in season 3.
  • Dating What Daddy Hates: Downplayed. Violetta and Tomás weren't technically a couple, only having mutual feelings for each other, but German developed some hatred for Tomas, believing him to be a bad influence for Violetta. Germán also grows distrustful of Diego when he starts crushing on Violetta, who eventually decides to give him a chance. He doesn't start off as a Nice Guy, in contrast of Tomás.
  • Dude Magnet: Pretty much every male character has fell in love with her or was attracted to her. Even Maxi (her male best friend), and Braco to a lesser extent, were attracted to her when they first met her.
  • Has a Type: Violetta and self-centered arrogant bad boys who are deep down jerks with a heart of gold like León and Diego.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: About her father's two other love interests, Esmeralda and Priscila.
    • While she clearly saw through Jade's personality, Violetta was fooled by Esmeralda and her so-called resemblance to her mother, quickly accepting her as part of the family, not knowing that she was hired by Jade and Matías to ruin Germán and make him look guilty for an embezzlement crime they comitted themselves against him. Jade exposing Esmeralda at the wedding forces a devastated Violetta to see the truth behind the woman she admired and looked up to.
    • In Priscila's case, Violetta and Ludmila were equally against her and Germán's relationship as this means them living on the same roof as stepsisters, but ultimately give in so they can be happy. However, despite Priscila treating Violetta the same way as Ludmila, she doesn't think she's that cruel. It seemed like Violetta had to learn this the hard way when Priscila pushed her down a flight of stairs, only for her (and most of Violetta's friends, except for Naty and Germán) to point fingers at Ludmila, who truthfully denies any part in the atrocity, and refuses to believe that Priscila is capable of framing her own daughter for something she didn't do. A security camera footage she retrieves with León's help is what wisens her up and apologizes to Ludmila, as well as the others, for not believing her before, accepting that Priscila is "the worst person in the world" as Ludmila described earlier on to her and Federico.
  • Hypocrite: She was very upset to find out that her father pretended to be a teacher at the studio to spy on her to the point where she considered their relationship ruined. In season 3 she creates a disguise to spy on Leon. She and Francesca lampshade this.
  • Leitmotif: En Mi Mundo.
  • Loves My Alter Ego: Leon, who no longer harbors any feelings for Violetta, has a crush on Roxy in season 3.
  • Never My Fault: In season 2, Violetta is accused of playing the victim card by almost everyone (even Leon and her own father) over the kiss with Diego onstage, claiming that she got very close to him on purpose, when it was the other way around: Violetta actually tripped and Diego seized the moment to grab and kiss her. So, Violetta had every reason to explain that it was not the case.
  • Nice Girl: One of her defining traits is her kindness. She is so kind that she forgives Ludmila for all the terrible things she has done to her more than once and sympathises with both Diego and Ludmila even after she finds out about their plan to get her expelled from the Studio.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: As Roxy. It still seems to fool her friends though (other than Diego).

León Vargas

Played by: Jorge Blanco, Sam Riegel (English, season 1), Michael Sinterniklaas (English, seasons 2 and 3)

Film Appearances: Tini: The New Life of Violetta

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/939ca403_5df3_4107_aca8_861748c674eb.png

León is arrogant, conceited and somewhat vain. Despite that, León has a good heart, but when he is with Ludmila they are empowered and he can seem bad. Unlike Tomás, he comes from a wealthy family and never had to work. León takes classes at Studio 21, and he also has great potential as an artist. At first he wants to conquer Violetta to get revenge on Tomás, to whom his girlfriend Ludmila is attracted. However, and much to his regret, he will fall in love with Violetta. Although he usually hangs out with the cool group in the studio, León is a noble boy.

  • Amicable Exes: He and Ludmila end up becoming this post Heel–Face Turn.
  • Betty and Veronica: The Veronica to Tomas's Betty for Violetta's Archie. The second season has León becoming the Betty to Diego's Veronica, then the third season has Clement as the Veronica to Leon's Betty.
    • Betty and Veronica Switch: In the second season, Leon and Diego switch places mid-season. With Leon temporarily unaware of the scheme against Violetta, him dating Lara and ignoring Violetta, he takes over as the Veronica, while Diego, now Violetta's boyfriend, does everything he can to let her guard down and support her unconditionally, thus he becomes the Betty. In the third season, Leon and Clement as well. Since Leon no longer harbors feelings for Violetta, becomes distant and even treats her poorly, he becomes the Veronica. As for Clement, he takes over as the new Betty as Violetta leans on him for support. Nonetheless, they eventually return to their original position near the end of both seasons.
  • Chick Magnet: He attracted Ludmila, Violetta, Lara and Gery.
  • Crazy Jealous Guy: Generally Played for Laughs but it's literally of his most significant traits throughout the seasons. It's his jealousy which led to a rivalry with Tomas over Ludmila at first and then (mostly) Violetta in Season 1. It's not helped by Violetta who are Dude Magnet (sometimes a clueless one).
  • Flanderization: He starts acting even more jealous and (if not) downright abusive and prone to verbal violence towards Violetta.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: With Andres.
  • Informed Attribute: In season 1 he's talked up as an amazing piano player, and while he does play the piano frequently in that season, it's nothing too impressive. And then in the later seasons this ability gets dropped completely.
  • Leitmotif: Voy Por Ti in season 1, Entre Dos Mundos in season 2.
  • Operation: Jealousy: He initially used Violetta to spite Tomás, who had a crush on her, but Leon eventually developed real feelings for her.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: After Tomás is Put on a Bus at the end of season 1 and León goes through a Heel–Face Turn, he is more kind and respectful to Violetta's friends, even becoming the Official Couple with her (check the page What Could Have Been). However, his jealousy tendencies still remain whenever he sees Violetta with other guys.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: As stated above, in season 2 to replace Tomas as the Nice Guy in the love triangle. He still picks fights with guys who he thinks likes his girlfriend, though.

Tomás Heredia

Played by: Pablo Espinosa, Lucien Dodge (English)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/03726e20_59b3_485b_a46c_6a73a2bf155b.png

Tomás is attractive, straightforward, self-confident and at times a bit distant. He plays the guitar and sings. His songs reflect his personality and his pursuit as an artist. He attends Studio 21, with a scholarship from Professor Beto, who hires him as his assistant. He was born in Spain, but moved to Buenos Aires with his mother to take care of his grandmother. Tomás falls in love with Violetta despite Germán trying to keep his daughter away from any candidate. His main competitor for Violetta's love is Leon.

  • Betty and Veronica: The Betty to Leon's Veronica for Violetta's Archie.
  • Chick Magnet: Downplayed, but Violetta, Ludmila and Francesca all fall for him.
  • Did Not Get the Girl: After his breakups with Ludmila and Francesca, and sacrificing his crush on Violetta in favor of a potential singing career opportunity in Spain, Tomás ends up by himself.
  • Everyone Has Standards:
    • Despite initially misblaming Violetta for lying about not being Germán's daughter and having him fired by Luca, Tomás did not find funny the angel costume prank that was played on her when she showed up to the Studio wearing it in front of a bunch of unknown people (although he didn't know it was Ludmila who tricked her). He even expressed to Ludmila his disdain to whoever did this to her. But Ludmila takes this to her advantage by secretly recording Tomás and sending Violetta an out-of-context version of the video, to make it look like Tomás was also making fun of her.
    • He also defended Violetta from Andrés, who was ordered by Gregorio to pull a Wounded Gazelle Gambit on Tomás and have him expelled from the Studio, by saying awful things about Violetta that were false.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: He completely falls for each and every of Ludmila's lies and manipulations, and even lets his love for her cloud his judgement. He is eventually snapped out of it for the second half of season 1 after slowly realizing how a bully Ludmila really is.
  • Nice Guy: His defining character trait.
  • Oblivious to Love: Francesca has a secret crush on him. Tomás, of course, doesn't know it.
  • Put on a Bus: He leaves for Spain to focus on his music at the end of Season 1.

Ludmila Ferro

Played by: Mercedes Lambre, Melissa Fahn (English, credited as Joie Marlowe)

Film Appearances: Tini: The New Life of Violetta

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/81e428cf_1e3a_4fa2_a76f_92b1802723e9.png

Ludmila comes from an upper class family. She is the cool and glamorous girl from Studio 21, which makes her the ideal girlfriend for León. But what she has as a diva, she also has it as a liar, manipulative, and arrogant. Despite being totally different from Tomás, she is attracted to him. But Tomás ignores her because he is in love with Violetta, which unleashes her jealousy and obsession. She lives dependent on her image and she always wants to be the center of attention, especially in Studio 21. She always gets what she wants, she is spoiled, conceited and cruel. She considers Violetta her main enemy, as her talent and natural beauty can overshadow her. Like any villain, she has a henchman: Naty.

  • Always Someone Better: What she considers Violetta to be. Her mom encourages the idea.
  • Alpha Bitch
  • Leitmotif: Destinada a Brillar
  • Anguished Declaration of Love: Par for the course with her and Federico, who find themselves in a Relationship Revolving Door for most of season 3.
  • Calling the Old Man Out: Most of her conversations with her abusive mother Priscila. She also gives one to her father for abandoning her, before finding out that her mom had been intercepting his letters and calls.
    • Offers a subtle one to German when he asks to see the golden record he had given her to check whether Priscila had taken it and made it into earrings. Ludmila points out that he wouldn't need to see the record if he trusted her mother, and German asks her if she realises how serious the situation would be if the accusation were true. She replies by asking if he does.
  • Catchphrase: She's not just a star, she's a supernova.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: Her main character arc, starting in season 2.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Often, her schemes are normally petty and short-sighted. She tends to blame others, mainly her friend Naty, when she gets called out on it.
  • Dub Name Change: Known as "Lucinda" in the Dutch dub. This name change was respected when the cast did concerts in the Netherlands and Belgium.
  • Freudian Excuse: Her mother has been abusing her psychologically since she was a child.
  • Family of Choice: She chooses to continue living with Violetta and German instead of leaving the country with her father. She even calls German "Dad" at one point.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Starts refusing to take part in her mother's zany schemes in season 3. It comes back to bite her when people refuse to believe she's changed, at first.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Despite being undeniably despicable and self-centered, Ludmila is right in pointing out to the group that Violetta being depressed (and won't explain why) shouldn't stop them from continuing the rehearsal for the second end of year show. They all stay reflectively silent while Pablo, for the first time, seconds her statement.
  • Seven Deadly Sins: Ludmila shows three out of seven.
    • Pride. She loves to be center of attention at the studio just to feed her ego.
    • Envy. Due to her feeling threatened by Violetta, whom she sees as an obstacle to her ambitions and goals. Also, because of her attraction to León and Tomás.
    • Wrath. Her treatment of Violetta, and especially her friend and on-and-off-goon Naty. When things don't go her way, she usually complains about it as if everyone is being unreasonable.
  • Sour Outside, Sad Inside: Her Unpleasant attitude is the result of her mother’s abuse and the absence of her father. many characters have also said that her attitude is caused by grief.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: After she comes to view herself as part of the Castillo family.
  • Tsundere: Post Character Development. She still loudly proclaims herself better than everyone around her, but now she might take the time to specify that everyone else is pretty good, too.

Diego Hernández

Played by: Diego Domínguez, Tony Azzolino (English)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/9dddb922_f2cf_46d4_ac23_783de787cfe5.jpeg

  • Betty and Veronica: The Veronica to Leon's Betty in season 2.
Near the end of the season, the two return to their original position.
  • Big Bad Duumvirate: With Ludmila to play with Violetta's feelings and make her leave the Studio, with Diego doing most of the dirty work, in return for knowing the identity of his missing father, whom he hasn't known for so many years.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Towards Leon in Season 2. Subverted in the third season.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Despite being much of a jerk and his loyalty to Ludmila, Diego is disgusted when Ludmila bullies Violetta, when she is at her lowest and just as he started to truly fall in love with her. Even he can't put up with her annoying personality.
  • Heel–Face Turn: At the end of season 2.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Comes off as an arrogant jerkass at first, but through his relationship with Violetta he becomes a lot more kind. Season 3 has him drop the jerkass persona almost entirely.
  • Leitmotif: Yo Soy Así in season 2,Ser Quién Soy in season 3.
  • Never My Fault: Diego blames León for turning everyone against him after his plans with Ludmila against Violetta were exposed, when Diego himself wasn't even honest with her concerning the situation with his father and all León did was to protect her.

  • Took a Level in Kindness: In season 3 through his Heel–Face Turn and goes from being Leon's archenemy to his best friend.

Francesca Caviglia

Played by: Lodovica Comello, Dorothy Elias-Fahn (English, credited as Johanna Luis)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/3c30a77c_0010_4bff_a4c0_58c71a066f04.png

Francesca is intelligent, self-sacrificing and a good friend. She is aware of the effort her family makes to make her go to Studio 21. She was born in Italy, like her brother Luca, who runs the Restó Bar family business. She is in love with Tomás, but he only sees her as a friend . She at first she will be jealous of Violetta, but they end up being best friends with her. Francesca also attends Studio 21, where she hangs out with Camila and Maxi.

  • Betty and Veronica: She is the Betty to Ludmila's Veronica for Tomás' Archie. However, with Violetta coming in the mix having a crush herself on Tomás, Francesca ends up becoming the Veronica due to her jealousy issues, with Violetta taking over as the Betty. In season 2, with the arrival of Ana, Marco's ex-girlfriend, Francesca serves as the Betty to Ana's Veronica.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Towards pretty much all of her love interests.
  • Dude Magnet: Tomás, Diego and Marco all fell in love with Francesca.
  • Fatal Flaw: Francesca's jealousy towards her love interests and her quickness to jump to the wrong conclusions about them. This deserves to be expanded a bit. She refused to listen to Tomás when he tried to explain that he was only comforting Violetta because León refused to take her back, even though it's obvious that Tomás still harbors feelings for her, but this attitude was really out of character. Then comes Marco in season 2, as their relationship gets complicated with the arrival of his ex-girlfriend, Ana, who sabotages any chance of reconciliation just to get back with him. Even if Ana felt remorse for what she did and apologizes to them, Francesca still remains distant from Marco. Later, when the chance does come, however, Francesca once again reverts to this and vows to never talk to Marco again after he got accidentally locked in the fish tank by Beto and was unable to meet with her.
  • Funny Foreigner: Had some shades of this with her Blunt Metaphors Trauma. She also fakes an American accent as Fausta.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Subverted. Francesca initially started off as this to Violetta when they first met because of Tomás, who Francesca secretly has a crush on. After Ludmila sets Violetta up to humiliate her, however, she has a change of heart.
  • Has a Type: Francesca and Spanish good-looking boys: Tomás and Diego.
  • Leitmotif: Aprendí a Decir Adiós.
  • Loves My Alter Ego: Andrés, who has zero feelings for Francesca, has a crush on Fausta in season 3.
  • No Listening Skills: Whenever she thinks the worst of her crushes, she refuses to listen to their explanations.
  • Ungrateful Bitch: Subverted. Francesca thought that Luca didn't care about her when he gave to the Studio the Resto Bar's earnings just to spite her. However, she knows that the act was selfless due to the Studio's financial issues.

Camila Torres

Played by: Candelaria Molfese, Cindy O'Conner (English)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/257d28b8_ef57_4043_ad20_e78bd604e91a.png

Camila is fun, outgoing and righteous, she does not hesitate to risk herself for her friends and defend her convictions. She is close friends with Maxi and Francesca, she dreams of becoming a successful and recognized singer. She is very talented, but she knows that she has not yet achieved the artistic maturity necessary to make the leap to success.

Maxi Ponte

Played by: Facundo Gambandé, Bryce Papenbrook (English)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/9a105df9_11de_46a5_a38a_6144a126277a.png

Maxi is the best dancer in Studio 21, his favorite style is street dance. He is funny, creative, witty and dreamy. He is very clear that his path is in music. He plays keyboards, synthesizers, and builds computer foundations in order to be able to record an album one day. His best friend is Camila, with whom he shares his musical tastes and his disdain for Ludmila, León and cool kids. He is infatuated but does not have much success with girls, he usually gets in trouble trying to woo the girl he likes.

  • Iconic Item: His snapback hats. Its extremely rare for him to be seen without one.
  • Looking for Love in All the Wrong Places: A running gag of sorts at the beginning of season 1 shows his misfortune in love. Some such examples include Andres' younger sister and his cousin. After him and Naty get together, this trait gets passed on to Andres.
  • Morality Pet: To Naty, as he always encourages her to not be influenced by Ludmila's behavior and seek out people who really care about and take her into account.

Natalia Vidal

Played by: Alba Rico, Christine Marie Cabanos(English)

Naty is Ludmila's right hand, although sometimes it seems that she was her pet. Naty is pretty but not stunning, she lives up to fashion and looks down on the rest of the students. Deep down, she is insecure and believes that the only way to succeed is to be in the group of cool guys. She is a good dancer and singer, but Ludmila does not let her exploit her abilities. Naty knows that Ludmila could betray her for her own benefit, something she would never do. Still, she doesn't walk away from her because she believes that being around her will turn into a diva.

  • Beta Bitch: Played straight in season 1 and later averted in season 2 and 3.
  • Cool Big Sis: Naty to her younger sister Lena.
  • Dub Name Change: Known as "Nadia" in the Dutch dub.
  • The Scapegoat: She is always at the receiving end of this by Ludmila, who blames her friend for the wrongdoings that were actually her fault.
  • Token Good Teammate: She is actually nice but meekly goes along with Ludmila's bullying of the other students to please her.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Warms up to Violetta and her friends, especially Maxi, after Ludmila abandons her.

Andrés Calixto

Played by: Nicolás Garnier, Jason Palmer (English)

Andres is León's best friend and also his follower. He is clumsy and absent-minded, but is always very convinced of what he does. Sometimes you have to tell him things twice for him to learn but, even so, he is very sure of himself. He carries music in his heart. Andrés has no evil, but a lack of character to make his own decisions.

  • Ambiguous Disorder: Andres often has a hard time communicating to others, is bad at picking up social cues and sarcasm, and becomes extremely passionate about his interests and hobbies, among other things that are commonly associated with autism, though he is never explicitly stated to have something. Mostly Played for Laughs.
  • Dub Name Change: Known as "André" in English.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: With León.
  • In Love with Love: Is fascinated with the idea of love, even though he doesn't have much luck with girls. In season 3, he creates a blog called The Doctor of Love to talk about his friend's love lives.
  • Token Good Teammate: In the popular crowd along with Naty.

Broduey

Played by: Samuel Nacsimento, Chris Jai Alex (English, seasons 1 and 2), Marcus Griffith (English, season 3)

  • Only One Name
  • Second Episode Introduction: Broduey is featured in the opening sequence, but there is no mention nor appearance of him until the mid-season finale. He appears in person in episode 42, two thirds into the season, thus becoming the final original main character to be introduced.
  • Spell My Name With An S: Officially, his name is spelled "Broduey," but as this sounds phonetically similar to the word "broadway," it is often spelled it as such from other sources.
  • Token Black Friend: The only prominent Black character of the show. He also ended up being the only prominent Black character in a Disney Latino production outside of Brazil.

Marco

Played by: Xabiani Ponce de León, Bradley Gamble (English)

  • Ascended Fanboy: A big fan of Talentos XXL and Francesca specifically, he later joins the studio, befriends everyone and even gets to tour with them.

Federico

Played by: Ruggero Pasquarelli, Todd Haberkorn (English)

Braco

Played by: Artur Logunov, Michael Sinterniklaas (English)

Braco is intelligent and with a crazy personality, it seems that he lives in his own world. He is a great popping and hip hop dancer. We know from his looks and accent that he is a foreigner, but he will never say exactly where he came from. He speaks different languages. When he gets angry or nervous about some girl he likes, he starts speaking in Russian or Ukrainian. He always has some advice or saying from the country of his for every occasion. He is always ready to help his companions.

Napo

Played by: Rodrigo Velilla, Johnny Yong Bosch (English)

Napo As his name implies, he has a Napoleonic personality. He is a good companion and constantly seeks to be accepted. From the beginning he will want to be part of the entourage of his cousin Ludmila and the cool boys, but over time he will move away from them to join the group of good guys. He will take the entrance exam together with Violetta and will pass thanks to his qualities for singing and dancing.

Lara

Played by: Valeria Baroni

Gery López

Played by: Macarena Miguel

  • Boyish Short Hair
  • Bad Boss: Not a boss per se, but while she's the one giving orders to Clement in their scheme against Violetta, she is quite mean and treats him very poorly.
  • Batman Gambit: She and Clement (very reluctantly, because Gery threatened to expose his true identity) create fake chats pretending to be Violetta and León in order to separate them from each other. It works for a while, but they later realize how wrong it was and admit it before their shocked faces.
  • Big Bad Ensemble: Alongside Ludmila's mother for the entire season 3.
  • Betty and Veronica: The Veronica to Violetta's Betty concerning León who is the Archie.
  • Blackmail: She did this to Clement to coerce him into driving Violetta and Leon away from each other by pretending to be them through chats under the threat of telling everyone that he enrolled at the Studio with a fake name if he refuses to comply.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Towards Violetta and Mathilda (briefly) in season 3 for Leon.
  • Easily Forgiven: Although they are shocked after finding out what Gery and Clement did to separate them, however, the next day Violetta and Leon immediately forgive them.
  • Evil Is Petty: She seeks by any means to take León away from Violetta just because.
  • Hate Sink: She is guilty of this, mainly due to her attitude, especially when it comes to Violetta and always meddles in situations that are none of her business.
  • Heel–Face Turn: She has one by the finale after realizing how wrong her and Clement's actions were in setting Violetta and Leon up to separate them. They genuinely apologize to them and in turn they are forgiven.
  • Kick the Dog: Has the boys' band appointment with the label cancelled by calling them pretending to be Violetta and frame her to further break the already broken trust between her and León, who accuses her of Crying Wolf, as he is still hurt over her deceiving him through the Roxy persona. Then she has the gall to tell Mathilda, a polish girl she's just met, to stay away from Leon, foolishly misinterpreting her kindness with love.
  • Villain Team-Up: Gery and Clement when they scheme to separate Violetta and Leon and have each for themselves.

Clement Galan/Alex

Played by: Damien Lauretta

  • Betty and Veronica: The Veronica to León's Betty.
    • Betty and Veronica Switch: In the third season, Clement and Leon switch places mid-season. Since Leon no longer harbors feelings for Violetta, becomes distant and even treats her poorly, he becomes the Veronica. As for Clement, he takes over as the new Betty as Violetta leans on him for support. Nonetheless, they eventually return to their original position near the end of the season.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Towards Leon in season 3 for Violetta.
  • Easily Forgiven: Although they are shocked after finding out what Gery and Clement did to separate them, however, the next day Violetta and Leon immediately forgive them.
  • Heel–Face Turn: He has one prior to the finale after realizing how wrong his and Gery's actions are in separating Violetta and Leon, but Gery still insists in going through with the plan. Later on, they confess to their scheme, genuinely apologize to them and in turn they are forgiven.
  • Mistaken for Cheating: Gery believes that Clement and Camila were in the verge of kissing and gets mad, when in reality Camila was asking him to help her rehearse a scene of the kiss with the male character of a short film in which she agreed to star in.
  • Not What It Looks Like: He tries to explain to Gery that he was only helping Camila rehearse the kiss for her short film after catching them on the verge of doing it.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Clement overhears Violetta vowing to forget Leon forever, which mistakenly gives him false hopes of possibly starting a relationship with her, although earlier on she made it clear that they could only be friends.
  • Riches to Rags: Downplayed and averted, as he enrolls at the Studio with a fake name and coming from a poor background, fearing that his father, who instead wants Clement to study a career he doesn't even like and opposes his passion for music, will find out.
  • "Shut Up" Kiss: Clement gives one to Gery, while yelling that she hates him for supposedly almost kissing Camila.
  • Villain Team-Up: Gery and Clement when they scheme to separate Violetta and Leon and have each for themselves.

     Adults

Germán Castillo

Played by: Diego Ramos, Michael Mcconnohie (English)

Film Appearances: Tini: The New Life of Violetta

Germán is Violetta's father. He is a brilliant engineer, owner of an international construction company that does large-scale public and private works. He is strict and demanding. Since the death of his wife he has been overprotective of his daughter, but behind his stiffness he hides a great heart. Germán has a girlfriend, Jade, whom he considers a good influence on his daughter. But the arrival of Angie, Violetta's new governess, completely dislodges him and, although he does not want to admit it, he will end up falling in love with her.

  • Accidental Misnaming: He sometimes mixes up Camila and Francesca's names.
  • Aesop Amnesia: At the end of the first season, Germán is meant to learn to trust more who Violetta truly is with her gifts and talents that she inherited from her deceased mother after he cancels the trip to Qatar at the last minute and allow Violetta, not only to participate in the end of year show, but to also continue attending the Studio. However, he seems to completely forget about this in the second season, this time often meddling in Violetta's personal life and relationships, even going as far as to disguise himself in order to be closer to her, then after being caught on his lie, cruelly accusing Violetta of lying back to him when she wins a contest to travel to Madrid. He's briefly at it again in the third season when he suspects Violetta of having sabotaged his relationship with Priscila through the use of a voice modulator and refuses to believe that she is innocent, when in actuality it was Ludmila herself who did this and made Violetta the scapegoat for her actions, resulting in Germán forbidding Violetta from letting her go out unless she comes clean and apologizes, which she rightfully didn't have to. In the end, Maxi informs Germán that Ludmila was the true culprit and both her and Violetta confirm it, so Germán is the one who ends up apologizing.
  • Berserk Button:
    • Completely flips out if anyone tries to challenge his ways of parenting Violetta.
    • Being lied to also brings out the worst in him.
  • Brother–Sister Incest: Downplayed somewhat with him and Angie, as they're siblings in law.
  • Defrosting Ice King: The show attempts to do this numerous times with Germán and it was really worth the effort. In the first season finale, he allows Violetta to continue attending the Studio, only for him to revert to his overprotective tendencies and start meddling in Violetta's personal life, clearly still bitter over his wife's death. However, the third season has him drop almost entirely this attitude.
  • Dub Name Change: Anglicized to "Herman" in the English dub.
  • Fatal Flaw: His inability to trust people more, even his own daughter.
  • Flanderization: His overprotectiveness, anger issues and controlling attitude to Violetta are toned up to exaggerated levels, even for the smallest things his daughter does, such as kissing Leon, and later Diego.
  • Has a Type: An unfortunate example with Germán and gold diggers from the likes of Jade, Esmeralda and Priscila. Despite still being hung up on Germán, Jade is luckily spared of this in season 3.
  • Hero Antagonist: For the majority of the first season, as his main goal is to keep Violetta away from anything related to music, even if it means depriving her from a social life and constantly moving around the globe. He also intends to marry rich socialite Jade La Fontaine, whom Violetta openly despises due to her attitude, not knowing that Jade hates her as well. All of this is because he is concerned for her safety after the death of his wife María who used to be a singer and died in an accident on the way of her farewell tour. After finding out that she has been attending the Studio, the outraged Germán grounds Violetta and even threatens to make her move to Qatar. However, in the final episode while they're on their way to the airport he has a Heel Realization while witnessing Violetta dancing to the rythm of some street musicians and allows her to continue attending. Regardless, in the second season Germán resumes this role as he still doesn't entirely trust his daugher after how she lied to him before, yelling at her for no apparent reason and even disguising himself in order to spy on her. Angie even criticizes him for learning nothing of his mistakes when she finds out about the ruse. It's briefly resumed to a lesser extent in the third season when Violetta is wrongfully accused of trying to sabotage his relationship with Ludmila's mother, but is nevertheless dropped after the situation is explained to him. He still has his grouchy and sarcastic moments, though.
  • Horrible Judge of Character:
    • He likes Leon, because he's a friend of his wealthy parents and has previously worked with them, but hates the humble working-class Tomás, believing him to be a bad influence for Violetta. Applies also for Rich Suitor, Poor Suitor.
    • With all three of his significant others.
  • Go to Your Room!: German does this twice to Violetta.
    • The first time, he outright gives this order to Violetta in a loud scary tone when they dispute over his unfairness in not letting Violetta attend the Studio and sing as it is her true passion.
Germán: Well, you know what? That's it! First, you don't yell at me, and second, you will do as I say, because I'm your father! So, you go to your room and you're grounded from now on! If you want it to be this way, then so be it! Go to your room. GO TO YOUR ROOM, VIOLETTA!!!
    • The second time he is having a family dinner with Violetta, Ludmila and Priscila. When Violetta still scolds German for sending an angry e-mail to Leon, Priscila outright tells Violetta to go to her room until she cools down, although Violetta makes it clear that it is only her father who has that right. However, while German does follows suit, he says the same words; this time in a soft-spoken tone.
Violetta: If I have to go to my room, my dad will say so.
Priscila: [Beat] Your dad and I agree on everything. So I'm asking you please to go to your room until you calm down.
Germán: Go to your room, Violetta.
  • Hypocrite: German is obviously this to Violetta when he constantly lies to her, seeing it as the only way to keep her safe. However, he overreacts in a very harsh way when Violetta herself also lies to him, although her intentions were good. In addition, when she is trying to tell the truth, he refuses to believe her, including the fact of German wrongfully accusing Violetta of sabotaging his relationship with Priscila. Ludmila had actually committed the deed herself and framed the innocent Violetta for it; the matter was eventually settled and German apologized to Violetta.
  • It's All About Me: Angie calls German out for this during her "The Reason You Suck" Speech to him, after finding out that he had been disguising himself as Jeremiah, as he is always an obstacle in Violetta's life and doesn't entirely trust or let her be. He is evidently not over his wife Maria's death.
  • My Beloved Smother: Even after he undertands that singing is her passion, Germán never lets Violetta be and can't stand the idea of spending at least a minute without her.
  • Papa Wolf: Goes at great lengths protect Violetta so as to not lose her the same way he lost her mother. He also goes into one full-mode towards her and Ludmila when Priscila vows revenge against them and Angie.
  • Parental Obliviousness: Germán isn't that innocent here as he believes that Violetta started misbehaving and challenging his no-music policy when Tomás, one of her two love interests, and Angie, her aunt and governess, came into their lives due to the bad influence he thought they were having on Violetta, failing completetly to realize that she's been like this ever since her mother died. As a result, they moved constantly around the world, a routine that frustrated Violetta because she wasn't able to make any friends her own age.
  • Strict Parents Make Sneaky Kids: Unsurprisingly, Germán with Violetta.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: Germán was already a strict disciplarian father to Violetta, but even if he had allowed her to attend the Studio, season 2 takes this to a new level by having Germán act irrationally for the very trivial mistakes his daughter makes, such as pulling her out of a kiss rehearsal with Diego and accidentally getting too close to him and getting kissed, then coldly calling her out for it and blaming Angie for being an "incompetent" governess. His new girlfriend, Esmeralda, even encourages Germán to keep treating Violetta likes this, not knowing that she's actually a Bitch in Sheep's Clothing. Later, after Violetta gets to go to Madrid through a YouMix contest, Germán, who was already discovered to be Jeremiah, becomes greatly furious at Violetta and makes a scene at the Studio forbidding her to go.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Germán starts gradually softening up by the end of season 2. Season 3 has his completely shed his overprotective and strict attitude, not that it stops him from still being as sarcastic and snarky as he was before.
  • Will Not Tell a Lie: What he is supposed to do, until the death of his wife forces him to hide from Violetta her singing career in an effort to prevent her from following in her footsteps. Also, when he can't spend a day without her, goes disguised as a teacher in season 2.
  • You Are Grounded!: Near the end of season 1, Germán finally finds out that Violetta has been attending the Studio behind his back and this is how he reacts, forbidding her from doing anything related to music.

She is the sister of whom she was Germán's wife, but Violetta doesn’t know that she is her aunt. After the death of her sister, Angie tried to contact her niece on several occasions, but without success. So when Violetta returns to Buenos Aires, she pretends to be her new governess to get closer to her. Angie is also a singing teacher, and she is the one who will guide Violetta to find her vocation inside Studio 21 secretly from Germán. • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: The color of her hair is a combination to her cheerful upbeat personality.
  • Brother–Sister Incest: Downplayed somewhat with her and Germán, as they're siblings in law.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: After finding out that Jeremiah was German in disguise so that he could spy on Violetta, Angie reminds him of past situations when he was lied to by both her and Violetta, not to mention the fact that his second girlfriend, Esmeralda, who has hired by Jade and Matias to steal all of his money, deceived him as well. Angie states that Violetta only wants to be loved and supported by him, yet German keeps on being held back by this constant habit.
Angie: Do you realize it's always about you and that you're so selfish? Violetta only needs your love and your trust and it's nothing but lies. Didn't you learn anything last year? Okay, tell me this. How did you feel when you found out that I was Violetta's aunt? How did you feel when you found out Violetta was lying to you because she couldn't follow her real dream? How did you feel when you found out about Esmeralda...?
German: I know, I know. It was wrong what I did, but...it was the only choice that I had.
Angie: I don't believe you. This is too much.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: While this is very unlike her, Angie is understandably upset at Violetta for disguising herself as Roxy just to be closer to León, having not forgotten how Germán deceived them when he disguised himself as Jeremiah.

Appearances: Violetta | Soy Luna

She is madly in love with Ramallo and she will not rest until she marries him.

Jade Lafontaine

Played by: Florincia Benítez, Erin Fitzgerald (English)

Jade is Germán's girlfriend. She is a very superficial woman, always aware of her appearance. She is seductive, jealous, capricious, selfish, and manipulative. Her impudence makes her very funny and, despite being her villain, she can be lovable, since the real villain behind her is her brother, Matías. Jade comes from a wealthy family; she was born in abundance and never had to work for a living. But upon losing her fortune, she decides that the only way to maintain her lifestyle is to marry Germán, so she constantly tries to manipulate him. Jade hates Violetta because she competes with her for Germán's attention. She then she will hate Angie, who will be her direct competition for the love of Germán.

  • Has a Type: Wealthy men who are strict parents to their respective children: Germán and Nicolás.

  • Rich Bitch: Shows shades of this, even after she and Matias lose all their money.
  • Seven Deadly Sins: Jade shows some of them.
    • Pride: Considers herself better than others, including Violetta and Angie.
    • Greed: Desires to marry Germán for his money after she and Matias are broke and penniless. Later, in season 2 she and Matias attempt to steal his money.
    • Lust: Implied as she is genuinely, albeit madly, in love with Germán.
    • Wrath: For her treatment of Violetta.
    • Envy: She has it for Violetta benefitting from Germán's wealth and when he sometimes favors his daughter over her. Also for Angie, who is seen by Jade as competition for Germán's love.
  • Smart Ball: Whenever she is plotting something, she thinks very intelligently. This is lampshaded by Matias.
  • Spoiled Brat: Was favored heavily as a child (in comparison to Matias).
  • Took a Level in Kindness: When she starts falling in love with Nicolás.

Matias Lafontaine

Matias is Jade's brother. He is the true mastermind of her evil deeds. The villain behind the villain. He manipulates Jade to conquer Germán's fortune.

  • Seven Deadly Sins: Just like his sister, he shows some of them:
    • Pride: To a lesser extent considers himself better than others.
    • Greed: Pressures Jade into marrying Germán, as he sees this as an escape to their economical situation in order to maintain a luxurious life of his own. Later, in season 2 he and Jade attempt to steal his money.
    • Sloth: For his laziness and unemployment.
    • Gluttony: He often goes in the Castillos' food.
    • Lust: Flirts with Inspector Parodi (eventually becoming his girlfriend), the officer in charge of Germán's money theft case, and to a lesser extent, Angie.
  • Straight Man: To Jade, though he does have some Not So Above It All moments.
  • Manchild: Has shades of this, especially when his and Jade's father visits in the later part of season 1.

Pablo Galindo

Pablo will be the new Director of Studio 21, he is Angie's best friend, but is madly in love with her. They have known each other for a long time and see each other every day. Pablo is jealous of Germán, after Angie becomes Violetta's Governess.

Beto Benvenuto

Played by: Pablo Sultani, Kirk Thornton (English, credited as Buba Kachow)

He attracts attention with his clothes, his disheveled appearance and his tousled hair. He is friendly, sensitive and lovable, although sometimes her peers feel ashamed of him, especially Gregorio, who does not admit that he is one of their peers. He is not afraid to say what he thinks. His talent is undeniable and he often gives answers that only he understands. He will be Violetta's piano teacher before she enters the Studio as a regular student. In addition, he will have Tomas as her protégé, since he will start as her assistant and it will be Beto who will bet on Tomas's encouragement and encourage it.

Gregorio Casal

Played by: Rodrigo Pedreira, Keith Silverstein (English)

Gregorio hates Angie and will play against her because he believes that together with Pablo and their innovative and liberal ideas, they are discrediting the Studio. Ludmila, Andrés and Broadeway will occasionally be his allies among the students. A staunch traditionalist, he will continually fight against Pablo to maintain a conservative style in teaching the boys with whom he is extremely strict and demanding. He is convinced that the only way for boys to become artists is through serious and individualistic work.

  • Batman Gambit: He tricks Pablo into leaving the show's stage unattended by falsely claiming that Angie had an accident so that he can pin the incident on him as to give Antonio an excuse to make him the Studio's director. He succeeds.
  • Disappeared Dad: Was this to Diego, though they later build a bond as father and son.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: He can't stand the idea of Pablo becoming the new director of the Studio and does everything in his power to get the position for himself.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Even he was appalled when he found out that Diego lied to Violetta for months and became her boyfriend just to help Ludmila get Violetta expelled.
  • Dislikes the New Guy: Towards Tomás and Federico. Averted with Broduey as he brought him in to spy on the students.
  • Large Ham: Very much this in season 1.
  • Luke, I Am Your Father: Diego's real father is Gregorio.
  • Pet the Dog: He is very helpful to Violetta when she auditions to join the studio and even compliments her performance instead of insulting her like he does with the others.
  • Sadist Teacher: Gregorio is obviously this to most of the students, particularly Tomas.

Marotti

Played by: Diego Alcalá Sassi, Matthew Mercer (English)

  • Accidental Misnaming: A running gag had other characters misremembering his name when he was first introduced.

  • Betty and Veronica: The Veronica to Angie's Betty.
  • The Dragon: To Jade and Matias in their scheme against Germán.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Esmeralda has a daughter named Ambar, who is friendly to Violetta and German. And even begs her mom not to harm them, because she sees they are very nice people.
  • The Heavy: Becomes the central antagonist to Germán and Violetta in the first half of the second season.
  • Hypocrite Has a Point: Despite being as guilty as Jade is for the theft of Germán's money, she is absolutely right that she should go to prison for throwing her under the bus, especially since Jade was the person who employed her in the first place.
  • Whatever Happened to the Mouse?: Is never seen again after running from the cops.

Jacqueline "Jackie" Saenz

Played by: Valetina Frione

  • Betty and Veronica: Just like Jade before her, the Veronica to Angie's Betty for Germán.
  • Big Bad: In Season 3. Becomes a Big Bad Ensemble, with Gery, who wants to split Violetta and Leon up, and Milton, who wants to have the Studio closed.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: For all the horrible things she's done, Priscila was rightfully horrified when the guy she hired to scare Angie also ripped off the brakes of her car and successfully caught up to her in time to stop it manually when both Violetta and Ludmila were inside of it.
  • Evil Counterpart: To Germán. Both of them are overprotective and controlling parents to Violetta and Ludmila. However, while Germán genuinely cares about Violetta, at least from his own point of view, Priscila is very abusive and unconsiderate regarding Ludmila's own happiness.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Near the end of season 3, after realizing Ludmila was in danger because a guy she hired ripped the brakes off of Angie's car.

Milton Vinícius

Played by: Rodrigo Frampton, Martin Bilany (English)

  • Big Bad Ensemble: For the first half of Season 3, with Ludmila, Gery and Priscila.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Milton pretends to be a cool, funny and understanding teacher, but his true nature is immediately revealed when one of the candidates for the Studio excitedly approaches him. He maintains this facade in front of the other teachers until his schemes are exposed.
  • Broken Pedestal: A student gets this from Milton, who shamelessly shows his true face to the poor boy and yells at him.
  • Evil Brit: Only in the English dub. A little weird since he's the only Brazilian character with a British accent.
  • Evil Counterpart: To Gregorio. Both of them are/were abusive teachers towards the Studio's students and mistreated a scholarship student the most (Tomas for Gregorio, Clement for Milton; averted with Clement as he is actually rich and was pretending to come from a poor background). However, while Gregorio was doing his best in keeping the Studio afloat with some questionable methods and remained completely unaware of the damage it was causing to the others, Milton, on the other hand, intended to have the Studio shut down by scaring away any potential sponsors following Youmix's disassociation to the school in light of Antonio's sudden death. Thus, he was fully aware of his actions and did not care about the consequences.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Jerk: From the moment he's introduced in the premiere, the interaction Milton has with the student who admired him leaves crystal clear that he won't be friendly to anyone.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Milton is fired from the Studio as singing teacher after his shady actions and poor treatment of the students are exposed.
  • Sadist Teacher: Even worse than Gregorio.
  • Smug Snake: He's very unpleasant and a full-blown jerk.
  • Put on a Bus: His final appearance is in episode 40 of season 3, he is fired from the Studio by Gregorio.
  • Villain Has a Point: Despite his firing, Milton assures Gregorio and Angie that the Studio would be doomed to closing without any sponsors. His assertion turns out to be true. Initially.

Luca Caviglia

Played by: Simone Lijoi, Grant George (English)

Luca is Francesca's brother, and the manager of the Restó Bar next to the Studio, which is the meeting point for the teens. With his strong character and almost 2 meters tall, everyone thinks that Luca is a "bad wave", but with time they will realize that he has a big heart. In addition to running the family business, Luca would like to develop as an artist, just like his sister. Luca is ambitious, and he knows that the talent of the guys at the Studio can be used to attract customers. He then decides to become a "Restó Band" to present live shows ... and if possible, sing their songs.

  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: Luca and Francesca might quarrel a lot and disagree on some things, but they are shown to truly care for each other. It has to be seen to be believed.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Luca goes into full savage mode if someone tries to hurt his sister.
  • Chuck Cunningham Syndrome: Never seen again after season 1, but is mentioned in passing by Francesca in season 2.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: What the Studio's students initially thought of him due to his abrasive attitude.
  • Good Is Not Nice: Luca is very grouchy, aloof, cynical and down-to-earth, taking very seriously his role in running his uncle's business.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Easy to anger, especially if it's Tomás.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Despite initially being uncomfortable with the fact that the Studio students only went to Resto Bar just to rehearse, however, he uses all of his earnings to save the place from financial issues.
  • My Sister Is Off-Limits: Does not approve of Francesca's friendship with Tomas, even their relationship.
  • Pet the Dog: Violetta is the only Studio student who Luca treats with decent respect.
