Autobots

    In General
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/symbol_autobot_reg.png
"'Til all are one."

  • Big Good: They are the group of Cybertronians who fight for a better future for Cybertron.
  • Cool Car: As always, the Autobots usually choose this type of car for their alt modes.
  • First-Name Basis: All the Autobots refer to the students by their first names.
  • Gentle Giant: They may be huge compared to humans, but they mean no harm and are willing to protect the peace and freedom of all sentient beings.
  • The Ghost: Several Autobots have been mentioned but haven't appeared yet; Sky-Lynx, Prowl, Ratchet, Thunderclash, Rotorstorm, and so on.
  • Good Counterpart: To the Decepticons.
  • Good Is Not Soft: While they prefer to not kill their enemies unless they have no other choice, they're still soldiers and will do so with little to no hesitation.
  • Hot in Human Form: At least their holoform avatars are considered quite good-looking by some people.
  • Posthumous Character: Some Autobots have been confirmed as deceased, most of them Wreckers; Pyro, Guzzle, Leadfoot, and Ironfist among others.
  • Robot Buddy: All the U.A. students who are in the know of their existence are paired up with their respective Autobots.

Team Prime

    Optimus Prime

Optimus Prime | Orion Pax

Alt Mode: Freightliner Semi-Truck

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/optimusg1.jpg
"Freedom is the right of all sentient beings"

Optimus Prime is the leader of the Autobots. He is wise, intelligent, and willing to give his life to save those in need of help. After finally being unthawed from being frozen for centuries, he resumes his fight against the Decepticons and Megatron's tyranny. Optimus has also become a mentor to the students, especially Izuku.

  • Actor Allusion: Unsurprisingly his holomatter avatar is based on a younger Peter Cullen.
  • All-Loving Hero: It wouldn't be Optimus Prime if he wasn't this. He tries to talk and reason with his enemies before attacking them and only decides to kill Shatter and Dropkick as leaving them alive would result in Earth being attacked by a Decepticon invasion.
  • Arch-Enemy: To Megatron.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: Optimus is very observant.
    • He was able to notice the similarities between Izuku and All Might's Quirks and correctly deduced that they were the same.
    • During Kaida's match against Bakugo, he was also able to tell that the girl was jolted out of her stupor after re-experiencing a past memory.
  • Baritone of Strength: Optimus possesses a deep voice that shows his leadership of the Autobots; even through his holoform, the students of 1-A were left in awe of his voice.
  • Big Badass Rig: As always, his alt mode is a trailer truck, in this case, a flat-nosed Freightliner.
  • Big Damn Heroes:
    • When Bumblebee and Windblade are having trouble with Shatter and Dropkick, Optimus shows up via Groundbridge to give his fellow Autobots a helping hand.
    • He does this again when the Nomus are attacking Hosu City.
  • Big Good: He's the leader of the Autobots and fights for the freedom of all sentient beings.
  • Blade Below the Shoulder: Optimus's signature weapon is his energon axe which comes out of his hand.
  • Composite Character: This version of Optimus Prime has his design from G1, and is a former friend of Megatron like he was in the Aligned continuity due to their differing views of overcoming the Functionism caste system in the Transformers IDW comics. He also has a more casual sense of humor from the early seasons of the Sunbow cartoon.
  • Easily Forgiven:
    • He immediately forgives the agents of Sector Seven when they reveal they were manipulated by the Decepticons into helping them.
    • He easily forgives Mina when she confesses to being reckless.
  • A Father to His Men: Optimus is shown to treat all his comrades fairly and has become a father figure to them as well as the students.
  • Foil: To All Might. Both Optimus and All Might are The Paragon in their worlds (Cybertron and Earth, respectively) and share the same red and blue color scheme. They are also a mentor to Izuku and have a power that can be passed down (One For All for All Might and the Matrix of Leadership for Optimus). However, while All Might is a boisterous hero; Optimus is more of The Stoic. Also, All Might is close to retiring due to an injury while Optimus is still in his Prime, pun intended.
  • Good Counterpart: To Megatron. Both are the leaders of opposing Cybertronian factions (Autobots and Decepticons, respectively) who wish to remove Cybertron's caste system. However, while Optimus wants to create a peaceful future where Cybertronians can live with their freedom; Megatron's idea of a peaceful future is through his tyranny.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: With his Mini-Con partner, Roller.
  • Humble Hero: For all his great deeds and accomplishments, Optimus is a very humble bot who doesn't care about fame and only wishes to protect the innocent.
  • Large and in Charge: He's acknowledged as the tallest Autobot seen so far (before Jetfire) and clearly the leader.
  • Legacy Hero: He wields the Matrix of Leadership, an ancient Cybertronian relic passed down from the previous leaders of the Autobots.
  • The Mentor: To Izuku.
  • Not So Above It All: He was seen cheering wildly for Izuku during the early portion of the Sports Festival.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: He notes how One For All's mechanisms are similar to the Matrix of Leadership.
  • Papa Wolf: Optimus cares deeply about his Autobots and comrades which made him angry when the Decepticons kidnapped Bumblebee and Midnight.
  • Primary-Color Champion: His signature red, blue, and white paint job, which is even described as looking patriotic.
  • Real Name as an Alias: When using his holomatter projection he goes by his original name of "Orion Pax".
  • Secret-Keeper:
    • He finds out about the truth of One For All and reluctantly keeps it a secret on behalf of Izuku's insistence.
    • He learns about Shoto's abusive and tragic upbringing when he overhears him talking about it to Izuku and keeps it a secret for Shoto's sake and to avoid any further troubles with Endeavor.
  • Spotting the Thread: He is able to pick up on the similarities between Izuku and All Might's Quirk after witnessing it in action just once. He also had insight from the Matrix of Leadership.
  • The Stoic: Optimus is always focused and rarely loses his cool. Unless, of course, it involves Izuku.
  • Weapon Specialization: Optimus' signature Ion Cannon and his energon battle axe.

    Bumblebee

Bumblebee | B-127 | "Brian"

Alt Mode: VW Beetle

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bumblebeeric.jpg

Bumblebee, or B-127 as he was initially called, is an Autobot soldier sent to Earth to locate the Ark, establish a base, and send a signal to the Autobots to confirm its location. Unfortunately, upon arriving, Bumblebee was ambushed by Redwing. While he was able to defeat him, the Seeker ripped out his vocal processor and as a result lost the ability to speak. Heavily injured, Bumblebee was on the verge of entering stasis with his memory cells weakening, but not before scanning a nearby vehicle and transforming. Years later, he's found by Izuku Midoriya on Dagobah Beach who upon awakening and meeting becomes his first human friend and together with Izuku's new friends helps him recover his lost memories.

  • Amnesiac Hero: Due to suffering severe damage from his fight with Redwing, Bumblebee scans a nearby Beetle and transforms into his new alt mode before entering stasis. When he awakens several years later after Izuku and All Might take him out of Dagobah beach, he has no memory of his life from before and only gets brief flashes of it. It was only until Windblade arrives and repairs his mind with a Cortical Psychic Patch does Bee remembers his life.
  • An Arm and a Leg: He gets his arm torn off by Skullcruncher. He got better.
  • Arm Cannon: He gains and now wields a plasma cannon built into his arm.
  • Attack Its Weak Point: When faced with the Nomu, Bumblebee(in his holoform, Brian) used the sword Momo created for Kyoka to stab the monster's exposed brain, causing it to go out of control.
  • Baby Of The Bunch: He's the youngest Autobot among Optimus's team.
  • Badass Adorable: Bumblebee is a cute Autobot who's capable of kicking ass and taking down Decepticons.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Has formed this with Izuku and is protective of him, especially when Bakugo tries to assault the boy. This was best shown when Bumblebee gave Izuku some words of encouragement when the boy was having doubts when he was about to take the U.A. Entrance Exam.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Shows up on time to save Izuku, Kyoka, and Momo from the villains at the USJ.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Bumblebee is one of the nicest Autobots you'll meet but hurt the ones he cares about and he'll make you pay.
  • Composite Character: Bumblebee gaining amnesia is based on his titular movie character but with his robot mode leaning towards his Generation 1 self, along with the amnesia his Cyberverse counterpart has.
  • Drives Like Crazy: Is known for breaking speed limits, whenever he's on a high-speed chase or is in a hurry.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: His holoform avatar is just as blonde-haired as his car mode and he's an excellent friend.
  • Friend to All Children: While all the Autobots do get along well with the students, it's Bumblebee who gets along with them the most.
  • Jerkass to One: Bumblebee is a nice bot who is very friendly with his fellow Autobots and the students. But he dislikes Bakugo with a passion due to the latter's rude behavior and treatment of Izuku.
  • Klingons Love Shakespeare: He's pretty fond of Earth's taste in music, more specifically from the 90s.
  • Nice Guy: Bumblebee is a very friendly bot who gets along well with his fellow Autobots. The students, especially Izuku, Kyoka, and Mei, are also very fond of him.
  • Robot Buddy: To Izuku, Kyoka, and Mei. Though mostly to Izuku.
  • Shipper on Deck: He approves of the idea of Izuku and Kyoka becoming a couple.
  • Ship Tease: With Arcee.
  • Shock and Awe: His stingers allow him to shock his enemies.
  • The Voiceless: Bumblebee's been rendered mute after Redwing ripped out his voicebox.

  • Got Me Doing It: When Bulkhead breaks one of his tools, he barely manages to stop himself from uttering his mentor Ratchet's Catchphrase "I needed that!".

  • The Fighting Narcissist: Sunstreaker is pretty overprotective of his paint job to the point that he'll get distracted in a battle if something were to mess it up.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/transformers_g_1_jetfire_by_dan_the_artguy_d1aq5j2_1342559484.jpg

The second-in-command of the Autobots. Jetfire is an old friend of Starscream and has a history with Sky-Byte, thought dead but is alive and has been pursuing the Sharkticon.

  • Ace Pilot: He's considered the best flyer among all the Autobots, which is why he gets along well with the Aerialbots.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Jetfire is a very friendly guy, but when it comes to dealing with some of his enemies, he shows almost no mercy. When he meets Sky-Byte again after arriving on Earth, the sheer venom in his voice shows how much he detests the Predacon.

His alt mode is instead based on his Thrilling 30 toy. He's also the official second-in-command of the Autobots like his Unicron Trilogy incarnation.
  • Cool Plane: He chooses as his Earth alt mode a G.I. Joe Skystriker, a modified plane that combines an F-15 Tomcat and an F-22 Raptor.
  • Defector from Decadence: He admits he was a Decepticon during its earliest days when it was only about equality between cybertronians, but defected once their methods became violent.
  • Determinator: He's been hunting Sky-Byte for a million years all across the galaxy since their near-death experience.

  • The Nicknamer: Like Mei, Jetfire usually refers to people by nicknames so it's easier to remember.
  • Number Two: He's the second-in-command of the Autobots.

  • Death by Adaptation: Hot Rod dies during the early days of the war on Cybertron.
  • Face Death with Dignity: Hot Rod accepted his fate well saying he knew what he was getting into when he joined the Autobots and if he died saving a friend then he's glad to do it.

  • A Father to His Men: He seems to care about the morale of his men.
  • Ambition Is Evil: He aims to become the next Prime, but the methods he uses to try and obtain that goal are questionable.
  • Escape Artist: True to his name, Getaway is a master at escaping.
  • Identical Stranger: He shares a striking resemblance to Optimus, which he uses as a reason to say he's destined to be the next Prime.
  • Nominal Hero: He might be on the side of the Autobots and hates dealing with Decepticons, but he's highly ambitious and willing to make deals behind the other Autobots' backs.
  • Pragmatic Hero: He's not above making shady deals with Decepticons like Swindle.
  • Token Evil Teammate: He's easily the most morally dubious of all the Autobots seen so far, with his delusional ambition to become the next Prime and his willingness to make backdoor deals with a Decepticon.

    Depth Charge

  • Golden Super Mode: The power that comes from his Cyber Key manifests as such, with an aura that calms and even heals.
  • Humongous Mecha: He's several heads taller than Jetfire, who's already much taller than Bulkhead and Optimus.
  • Martial Pacifist: The Circle of Light are pacifists, but they're also powerful warriors and Dai Atlas is the strongest of them.
  • The Mentor: He mentored Jetfire in the ways of the Circle so he'd be able to master his rage and not let his desire for revenge against Sky-Byte consume him. Red Alert mentions he did the same with Drift.
  • Primary-Color Champion: He's colored blue, yellow, and red and he's one of the most noble Autobots.

Kimia

    Brainstorm

Brainstorm

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/brainstorm_8.jpg

A Cybertronian scientist who created the flying city of Kimia.

  • Achievements in Ignorance: He didn't know that the city of Kimia was a dormant Titan, or that a City-Speaker was needed to make them move, but he did it anyway.
  • Did Not Think This Through: He thought it was a good idea to inform the rest of the Kimia crew and passengers that a dangerous monster was roaming the colony, to serve as a warning, not thinking it would make everyone panic.
  • Ditzy Genius: As intelligent as he might be, he lacks in foresight and common sense, with a bit too much confidence in his capabilities to deal with a threat.
  • Expy: He's somewhat based on Cave Johnson from Portal.
  • Mad Scientist: He's crazy enough to use the body of a Titan to create a flying city and it worked.
  • Master-Apprentice Chain: He was mentored by Quark and he in turn mentored Apelinq.
  • The Mentor: To Apelinq.
  • Non-Action Guy: He's a scientist, not a warrior, so he's out of his element when he's forced into a fight.
  • Shoulder Cannon: While not an expert fighter, he's at least armed with a pair of shoulder cannons.

    Apelinq

Apelinq

Alt Mode: Gorilla

  • Badass Boast: "I'm NOT a monkey...I'm a scientist!"
  • Battle Cry: "Apelinq, MAXIMIZE!"
  • Berserk Button: Being called a monkey is the one thing that will tick him off, something Thundercracker learned the hard way.
  • Carry a Big Stick: He wields a pair of maces for close quarters combat in case he can't use his cannon.
  • Eating Machine: As a Maximal he's capable of consuming organic food to gain energy, something regular Cybertronians cannot do.
  • Expy: This version of Apelinq is one to Winston from Overwatch.
  • Fastball Special: At Tap-Out's insistance, he tosses both him and Glyph towards the Blark-Barg in order to beat it. He later does the same with Moonracer by throwing her at Ransack.

  • Intelligent Primate: His alt mode is a gorilla and the protégée of one of the smartest Autobots out there.
  • Platonic Life-Partners: He's best friends with Flare Up.
  • Shock and Awe: His signature weapon, the Tesla Cannon, can unleash blasts of electrical energy on his enemies.
  • Sky Surfing: Just like his toy, Apelinq can deploy a hover board from his feet for fast travel.

Proxima

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/290px_proxima_idw.jpg

Brainstorm's assistant and right-hand femme aboard Kimia.

  • Cloudcuckoolander's Minder: She's the one who keeps Brainstorm in check and the one who ensures he doesn't exasperate Botanica too much.
  • Expy: Since Brainstorm is based on Cave Johnson, then Proxima is based on Caroline.
  • Only Sane Man: She's the only one who can keep Brainstorm and Botanica off each other's throats and work together.
  • Non-Action Guy: Just like Brainstorm, Proxima is a scientist, not a warrior.
  • Science Hero's Babe Assistant: She's one to Brainstorm.

  • Blue Is Heroic: She's mostly colored blue and she's a pretty nice and heroic person.
  • Expy: While mostly based on her design and personality from IDW's 2019 comic, she also has elements of Mei from Overwatch.
  • Freeze Ray: She has a freezing cannon in order to trap and preserve organic beings.
  • Harmless Freezing: Which is why Brainstorm chose her in order to capture the bug creature that stowed inside Kimia.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: Despite her intelligence and capabilities, she's rather insecure and prone to getting nervous.
  • Official Couple: With Tap-Out, who helps motivate her when she's feeling insecure.

Tap-Out

Alt Mode: Cybertronian coupe

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tap_out_card_art_7.jpg

  • Blood Knight: He's a bot who's always pretty eager for a fight, even against a dangerous and unknown enemy.
  • Forgot Flanders Could Do That: In-Universe. Tap-Out's hot-headed personality makes him forget what his fellow Autobots can and cannot do, like Apelinq having a hover board or that Botanica's alt mode doesn't roll.
  • Good Old Fisticuffs: Despite his size and unlike other cybertronians, Tap-Out uses his fists to fight.
  • Nicknaming the Enemy: He's the one who decides to call the giant insect monster a "Blark-Barg".
  • Official Couple: With Glyph, being a very supportive boyfriend.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: He might be short compared to other cybertronians, but is quite strong and eager.

    Botanica

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/botanica.jpg

  • Adaptation Deviation: In canon Botanica doesn't even have an alt mode, but here she can turn into a copter with VTOL turbines.
  • Aliens Speaking English: She speaks with an Indian accent.
  • Expy: She's clearly an analogue of Symmetra from Overwatch.
  • Hover Mecha: Since she doesn't have legs, she moves around with a hovering platform, although she turns to her alt mode for fast travel.
  • The Perfectionist: She's openly called one, and she doesn't deny it, saying she tries her hardest to achieve perfection in her research.
  • The Social Expert: At least when it doesn't concern Brainstorm, she's known to be diplomatic.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Due to their very different approaches towards science and testing, she and Brainstorm don't get along.

  • Baritone of Strength: Rail Racer speaks with Railspike's voice, only much more booming to signify his strength as a combiner.
  • Battle Cry: "Triple Fusion Mode!" when they're about to combine.
  • BFG: Rail Racer combines the rifles of his components to create one huge rifle.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Arrive just in time to help the Autobots and Velocitronians beat the rogue Junkions by combining into Rail Racer.
  • The Big Guy: Collectively they're this for the crew of the Kimia, since they are much taller than average, work as security and maintenance, and can combine into a Gestalt Warrior.
  • Combining Mecha: The three can combine into Rail Racer. Railspike is the head, arms and upper torso, Rapid Run is the lower torso and back, and Midnight Express is the legs.
  • Cool Train: All three of them turn into trains.
  • Hard Light: They can travel through the air in train mode by creating railways made of light, although doing so requires concentration.
  • Humongous Mecha: They are pretty big by Cybertronian standards, being at least three times taller than Brainstorm, who's average in height.
  • Leader Forms the Head: Railspike is the leader and he makes up the arms, head and upper torso of Rail Racer.
  • Logical Weakness: While Rail Racer is indeed powerful, his size means Team Bullet Train can't combine in narrow spaces.
  • Luckily, My Shield Will Protect Me: Unlike his brothers who only wield rifles, Rapid Run carries a shield along with his weapon.
  • Primary-Color Champion: Rail Racer when combined is mostly blue with gold and white.
  • Sibling Team: They are brothers and always fight together.

  • Always Second Best: Despite how strong he was as a gladiator, he was never able to best Megatron in combat.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: It's mentioned outside of combat Grimlock is surprisingly nice, but on the battlefield, he's an utter beast.
