     Arc I: Fnar the Unborn

Fnar

Species: Fox/Rat/Wolf

Introduced in the very first arc, Fnar is an unborn child who is brought to Hell due to "special circumstances", implied to eventually be helping his mother find redemption. In the meantime, he's able to go where wants and do what he pleases, too innocent to be affected by Hell's horrors. He sees Jack as an honorary uncle, for his father is one of the other Sins, in this case Drip. Eventually, he leaves Hell to be reincarnated as Randy, though not before Drip deliberately rapes him to strip him of his innocence.

  • Born Lucky: In a very literal sense. Vince spells it out, how any harm done to Fnar in Hell will not work thanks to his innocence. He could take a swing at the boy and only end up distracted or hurt. Only his parents can hurt him.
  • Break the Cutie: Drip deliberately does this, spoiling the boy's innocence by raping his son and exposing him to the horrors of Hell. All just to hurt Jack.
  • Cheerful Child: He's always happy and just wants to play or show affection to the people around him.
  • Children Are Innocent: The reason that Hell has no effect on him; as he died before he was born, he died without sin. The reason he's in Hell is because his mother is.
  • Did You Think I Can't Feel?: He realizes emotional pain for the first time when his mother yells angrily (though well-meaning) at him, leaving him in tears. Jack explains that the only two people in Hell who can hurt him, emotionally or physically, are his mother and father. He goes through this again when Drip rapes him and he loses his innocence.
  • Facial Markings: He gains two that make him look like Drip to represent his innocence being lost after he's raped. They're removed before he reincarnates to help him start over with a completely "clean slate."
  • Feel No Pain: Thanks to being an innocent in Hell, he doesn't even flinch when a bird rips off his nose and flies away with it.
  • Foreshadowing: Fnar is shown to end up getting dressed in Drip's prized possession, his mother's scarf he always wore in life, when a demon spitefully tosses it away. It's because he's Drip's son.
  • Fully-Dressed Cartoon Animal: He's got a full outfit, which can be a rarity given what goes on in Hell. He loses it when Drip rapes him and rips the clothes off of him.
  • Innocently Insensitive: "Ya know Uncle Jack, you're a tad on the ugly side."
  • Kidanova: He's got shades of this, often commenting on how cute kid furs are, and even getting a steady "girlfriend" in the form of one of the shades in Hell.
  • Meaningful Name: His name stands For No Apparent Reason, hence "Fnar". Even other characters with unusual names remark it's kind of weird.
  • The Noseless: A bird took it while his body was forming.
  • Parental Substitute: Jack is this to him.
  • Plot-Relevant Age-Up: He was an unborn child not fully developed when he died but his spirit forms into that of a kid somewhere between about five and ten so he can fully interact with the plot.
  • Perpetual Smiler: The one time he ISN'T smiling, something is very, very, VERY wrong.
  • Reincarnation: It's eventually built up as an arc that he will leave Hell and get reincarnated as a new soul. In this case, he's Randy.
  • Wham Shot: When he's missing just before he's set to go back to Earth, Jack finds him. His eyes have been unwillingly opened and he's got two facial marks that represent Drip's molestation of him.

Jink

Species: Fox

Fnar's mother and one of Drip's victims, she's fused to a wall for many chapters as her punishment before Fnar, his girlfriend, and his "pet" rework pull her out of the wall. She's able to take the first step into leaving Hell by acknowledging her love for Fnar and how it would have changed her had she lived.

  • Anger Born of Worry: She yells angrily at Fnar to get him away before his father can find him where she's at, afraid of what he'll do to Fnar. While it works, she realizes immediately she went too far and accidentally hurt Fnar.
  • Deliver Us from Evil: Jack explains Jink could have been redeemed in life had she lived, for she was determined to be a good mother. She finds this in Hell, both with Fnar and being a mother for Abby the shade and her "sisters".
  • Ms. Fanservice: She's a very shapely little vixen.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: She feels terrible about yelling at Fnar. Even though it was well-meaning at the time, it was the first time in Hell anything hurt her son.
  • Mysterious Past: It's unclear what she did in life that condemned her to Hell. She mentions she did some "bad things" that condemned her but doesn't elaborate. Was she Drip's victim or did she actually think she was in love with him at one point? Why did he let her live so long? He generally didn't allow victims to live to the point that Fnar was at in her pregnancy when the two of them died. Her comments about "not needing him anymore" suggest she at one point was trapped in A Match Made in Stockholm cycle and was able to break free of it once she realized true love was found with her son, not her abuser. It's also unclear how she died, whether she was murdered or committed suicide, though the stab wound to her stomach and throat make it more likely someone killed her.
  • Please Put Some Clothes On: While she occasionally wears a robe after getting off the wall, for the most part she just stays naked.
  • The Power of Love: Parental love in this case. Jink is able to fix her eyes by acknowledging the maternal love she feels for
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Delivers a short, pointed one to Drip, letting him know she doesn't need him anymore and that he can no longer even touch her, a punishment inflicted upon him by Hell when it comes to his victims.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: She hasn't been seen since the last arc featuring Fnar, making it unclear if she's still in Hell or found redemption.
  • Who Names Their Kid "Dude"?: She seriously named her son "Fnar".

     Arc II: Angry Brian

Brian

Species: Dog

The first mortal antagonist of Jack. He went on a shooting spree at his school, something which had dramatic ramifications in the mortal world, particularly with the life of Virgil. It was ended when another kid shot him in the head. After death, he ended up being tortured in Hell before finally ending up working for Kane.

  • Ain't Too Proud to Beg: He begs his victims not to turn him over to Jack. They're having none of it, especially after some of them begged him not to kill them and he didn't listen.
  • Berserk Button: Being laughed at.
  • The Bus Came Back: He returns in Frightened Virgil, working for Kane.
  • The Cameo: He gets a vocal cameo in Games We Play In Hell as Silverblue and Fealt chuck rocks at him.
  • The Chew Toy: With how pathetic he is compared to the superpowered denizens of Hell, he ends up in a number of horrible circumstances after his death. Given his repugnant personality, it's more than deserved.
  • Does This Arc Remind You of Columbine?: Especially timely since the arc was put up only two years after the real Columbine happened.
  • The Dragon: To Dr. Kane.
  • Establishing Character Moment: "Jesus sent me. He says go to Hell."
  • Freudian Excuse: The narration says that he was laughed at, though the truth of this is debatable.
  • Groin Attack: His first punishment in Hell involves having a large stalagmite being shoved through his groin After he regenerates,. Drip rips his dick off, not that the little twerp didn't deserve it.
  • Hypocrite: He hates people laughing at him and yet it's said he and his friends laughed at the "NRA Preacher".
  • Never My Fault: He refuses to take any responsibility for what landed him in Hell, instead forever convinced it's everyone else's fault.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: It's ultimately asking his Armor-Piercing Question of what he's doing in Hell that gets Virgil to open his eyes and makes Heaven plus all their allies aware of the process to save the damned souls.
  • Pretty Little Headshots: To the point that at first, Brian doesn't even realize he's dead. Notably averted with his victims, though.
  • Starter Villain: He's the first mortal villain shown in Jack.
  • Unreliable Narrator: It's unclear if the kids ever laughed at him or if it was all just in his head, considering how mentally ill he is.
  • Villainous Breakdown: He's thrown into one the moment he dies.

"The NRA Preacher"

Species: Unknown

A mysterious teenager who stops Brian's rampage by killing him dead with a single shot.

  • Amazing Technicolor Wildlife: One of the few shown in the comic, he's got bright purple fur.
  • Deus ex Machina: A young teen who knows how to shoot just so happens to bring a gun to school the exact day one of his classmates goes on a school shooting rampage.
  • Due to the Dead: Despite Brian being a horrible individual, he still prays over his dead body.
  • Improbable Aiming Skills: He manages to kill Brian with a single shot to the head from a handgun.
  • Meaningful Name: His nickname "The NRA Preacher", refers to his fondness for guns and his religious nature.

    Arc III: Trixi and Tet

Trixi

Species: Rabbit

A sickly rabbit who shows off the tragedy of the world of Jack when she dies young, leaving her husband Tet to mourn her loss for the rest of his life.

  • Author Avatar: Trixi is a direct one for Cecil DeWalt, a real-life friend of David Hopkins. Vinci is their other one, as they created the two characters of Vinci and Arty.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: She mentions "Pepe is drawing this comic", a reference to David's much more benign fursona than Drip.
  • The Bus Came Back: After a small cameo when Fnar visits Heaven, she returns for a more substantial role in Those That Run.
  • Dying Alone: While Tet is there physically, tragically she falls into a coma before he can make it back to the hospital for a final goodbye in the physical world. Fortunately, Jack allows them one last chance to see each other on the spiritual plane.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: Eventually, she and Tet reunite happily in Heaven and get to spend eternity together.
  • Ill Girl: Trixi has an unspecified illness that makes her very sick and die after a short amount of time, though she still remains rather beautiful-looking all the way through.
  • In-Joke: There's a little confusion regarding her name when she gets to Heaven regarding her name being Candy, a nudge to Cecil's real-life name at the time. It becomes a bit more Hilarious in Hindsight after they transitioned.
  • So Happy Together: Trixi and Tet are nothing but happy soulmates until she becomes ill.
  • Soap Opera Disease: While her fictional disease has many parallels to cancer, it's not exact, especially since she warns Tet not to kiss her, suggesting he could catch something from her. Whatever it is remains vague until the very end.
  • Too Good for This Sinful Earth: She dies when she's still young and has a lot of life ahead of her.
  • The Trickster: In the end, she just couldn't help but play one last prank on her husband, making him think he'd gone to Hell instead of Heaven.
  • Victorian Novel Disease: She coughs a lot while she's dying but still manages to look relatively alright until the end.

Tet Solfir

Species: Folf (Fox/Wolf)

Tet is Trixi's husband and the love of her life. His main regret in life is not getting to grow old with her, though he's happily reunited with her in Heaven.

  • Anguished Declaration of Love: Jack gives him one last chance to tell Trixi he loves her on the spiritual plane after he regrets not telling her in the physical world.
  • Author Avatar: Tet is a direct one for Ryan DeWalt=, a real-life friend of David Hopkins who hosted the original Jack website for many years. Arty is his other one.
  • Driven to Suicide: Jack warns him not to go that far, for if he does, he'll never see Trixi again.
  • Happily Married: To Trixi until she dies.
  • In-Joke: Jack guesses his name is Ryan, which is the name of his actual real-life counterpart that Tet was based off of.
  • One True Love: Had this with Trixi and never found it again in life.
  • Parting-Words Regret: He deeply regrets not telling Trixi he loves her before she slips into a coma, so much so that Jack stops the cycle of life and death to give him one last chance to do so.
  • Passed in Their Sleep: As an old man, he eventually dies in his bed, not that he realizes it for a few hours.
  • Second Love: He mentions he met another bunny while he was still alive who reminded him of Trixi, but alas, she died as well.

     Arc IV: Falling Angels

Raini

One of those traveling on the ill-fated flight that crashes and girlfriend of Harik. She's one of the few survivors.

Species: Unknown

  • Genki Girl: Her general perky personality comes off as this.
  • Hope Spot: Inverted. At first it looks like she survived while Harik didn't but eventually it's revealed he survived as well, much to her relief.
  • Only a Flesh Wound: She takes getting shrapnel in her shoulder and hand surprisingly well.
  • The Pollyanna: In contrast to her boyfriend, she always has a positive outlook on life, even when she's searching for him amidst the rubble of the flight.

Harik

Species: Wolf

Raini's boyfriend and one of those that survives the plane crash.

  • The Eeyore: He's quite sour about his and Raini's travel plans, pretty much grumbling his whole way through the airport. As it turns out, his worries about getting on a plane are proven right when it crashes.

Melissa

Species: Unknown

A young thirteen-year old girl who is on the plane that crashes. Alas, she doesn't survive, and Jack gently has Fnar guide her to judgment.

     Arc V: Dinner At Arloest's

Arleost

One of Drip's victims while she was alive, she killed herself due to the pain and trauma of her experience and went to Hell. Hell granted her the ability to see the future, though it didn't matter since her life would never change. She made a deal with Drip to be brought back to life and chose not to commit suicide the second time around. The catch was that she'd be brought back to Hell and allow Drip to violate her for all eternity in exchange. When one of her actions brings Jack, she's forced to fulfill the deal. Eventually, Jack and his friends free her from Drip, which instantly allows her to reincarnate as one of Joann and Jeremy's twins since nothing was holding her in Hell besides Drip's will. Afterwards, she helps Megan with the psychic powers she still possesses in her new life.

Species: Panda

  • Ambiguously Bi: While she's a straight-up lesbian in her first life, it's not clear in her reincarnated one if she's still a lesbian or now bisexual.
  • Break the Cutie: She was just an innocent fifteen year-old girl when Drip captured her before raping and torturing her for two months before finally letting her go instead of killing her for unknown reasons.
  • Control Freak: Thanks to Drip's torture, she became obsessed with controlling every aspect of her own life. When she couldn't, she killed herself.
  • Cosmic Plaything: Arleost gets batted around like a mouse with a cat from the first to last in her first life. Fortunately, after being reincarnated, she's in a much better place mentally.
  • Cursed with Awesome: Being able to see the future is a great gift some of the time but more often it gets Arleost and those around her in a whole heaping dose of trouble.
  • Didn't Think This Through: An unfortunate character trait of her's. She didn't fully think about her deal with Drip and how the horrors of Hell she would experience at his hands once she was dead again. She also didn't look far enough ahead in the future to realize what would happen to Jatter and the couple she saved thanks to her powers, realizing what misery her actions would bring.
  • Driven to Suicide: She hung herself in the first go-around of her first life when she couldn't take the horror of what Drip had done to her any longer.
  • Foreseeing My Death: She knew Jack was coming to get her in the second go-around of her first life because she knew he was bound to obey the rules that would send her back to Hell.
  • Hanging Around: She killed herself in her first go-around of life by hanging herself.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: Drip gives her this the second time she's in Hell, only allowing her to remember she promised to never forget her friends but nothing else about them. She also doesn't remember her first life after reincarnating until she encounters Drip's spirit again and he reminds her.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Her well-intentions in saving the last two couples at her diner ended up with one of them stuck in an undying state until the end of the world.
  • Seers: Hell gave her this power and it sticks with her, both in her second chance at life and her new reincarnated one.
  • Touched by Vorlons: The special powers given to her in Hell follow her both into her second go-around of her first life and into her reincarnated second life.
  • Waif Prophet: She's a physically small woman and looks especially cuddly being a panda, especially when compared to Jack or Drip, who she is often around.

Jatter

The cook at Arleost's restaurant, he becomes traumatized due to losing her in what he saw as unfairness on Jack's part (he didn't know the full story of the deal she made with Drip at the time). He dies in an explosion at the restaurant he took over from Arleost and ends up in a zone where his actions are still influencing whether or not he'll get to Heaven, Hell, or Purgatory in something of a Locked Room Mystery. Once he's done there, he ends up in Purgatory and apologizes to Jack before immediately going to be reincarnated so he can try to find Arleost again.

Species: Catfish

  • The Cameo: He appears in Wednesday's Child working as a bartender at his restaurant that Wendy has gone to.
  • Incompatible Orientation: He loved Arleost with all his heart despite knowing he could never be with her because she was a lesbian. He still holds out hope during their second lives that her sexual orientation has changed and he'll have a shot with her.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Interestingly, we see the "heart of gold" portion first before the jerk part. He's sweet and kind as a young man but Arleost being taken away is his Cynicism Catalyst and he becomes an angry, embittered soul. Still, while he's rough on the surface he's still a decent fellow deep down.
  • Nay-Theist: Becomes one after Arleost is taken away, thinking that God and the Reaper are simply cruel beings who took her away because she was doing too much good on the Earth.

Datum

Species: Cat

The waitress who worked at Arleost's restaurant and loved her.

What Happened to the Mouse?: While Jatter's fate after going through the traumatic experience of losing Arleost is explored, it's not followed up what happened to Datum despite the fact she was there as well when Jack took her.

Olanda and Nick

Species: Unknown

The couple who listened to Arleost's advice not to take the highway home, allowing them to live through what would otherwise be their deaths. Alas, she does more harm than good, as preventing their natural deaths means they're left immortal and unable to ever die.

  • Mr. Exposition: They've clearly already had the conversation about becoming immortal many times but they're going through it one more time so the audience can learn that some people become immortal if they miss their time to die.
  • Who Wants to Live Forever?: They're starting to get this way after too many decades of being alive but console themselves at least they have each other for as long as their immortality lasts.

Bonavin

Species: Unknown

Half of the couple that doesn't listen to Arleost's fortunate not to take the highway home, he dies in the crash. While his spirit flees, his body is left to be turned into a rework. While essentially a mindless zombie husk, he starts to develop a personality once Fnar adopts him as a pet.

  • Deader than Dead: Ends up this way after Drip destroys what remains of his physical body.
  • It Can Think: Starts to develop a personality under Fnar's care and clearly cares for the boy. He goes so far as to try to avenge his master by viciously biting Drip after Drip molests Fnar.
  • The Powerof Love: Fnar innocently loving a rework zombie was enough for him to start developing a personality again
  • Undying Loyalty: Towards Fnar. Even though he had no chance, he still attacked Drip in revenge for raping him.

Arc VI: For No Apparent Reason

Gene Catlow

Species: Cat

The main character from Gene Catlow who makes an appearance within the Jack universe.

  • The Cameo: Essentially his appearance in this chapter is a prolonged version of this, for he never appears again in Jack.

Cotton Taylor

Species: Rabbit

Another character from Gene Catlow who makes an appearance within the Jack universe.

  • Meaningful Name: Cotton as in "cottontail".
  • Mr. Exposition: He's the one responsible for giving the backstory on Vince, something so infamous apparently it's taught in high schools.
  • Naked People Are Funny: For some reason, his powers render everyone naked.
  • Psychic Powers: Possesses "Sight of the Souls", a psychic power that allows him to view into the spiritual realm and see Vince.

Arc VII: All Work and No Play...

Shanna

Species: Unknown

One of the victims of the workplace shooting. She's very sweet and innocent, wanting to keep the others in the office from suffering her fate. She ends up going to Heaven and waits there for her One True Love: Ted.

  • Caretaking is Feminine: She always wanted to be a mother and hopes her personal Heaven is full of lots of babies for her to take care of. It turns out it is. In fact, she has so many little souls to take care of, she can't come to Ted personally in Purgatory to encourage him to try life again.
  • Domestic Abuse: It turns out the reason she wore all those sweaters with long sleeves was to hide the bruises her boyfriend was inflicting upon her.
  • Nice Girl: She's all-loving and just wants to help her fellow employees make it out alive, even though she's already dead.
  • Oblivious to Love: She never realized when she was alive that Ted actually really meant all the harmless flirting he directed towards her. Though Central does quietly tell Ted it was hard to know what real love looked like when her boyfriend was abusing her every night.
  • The Trickster: She sends a whole group of angels to tempt Ted into trying life again, knowing that their methods were (ahem) quite direct.

Ted Zervont

Species: Panda

One of the office workers killed in the attack, he ends up going to Purgatory and is reluctant to try life again. Eventually, he agrees when he hears Shanna is waiting for him in Heaven. In his reincarnation, he's a commander during a space war, and takes charge of a group of stranded Space Marines.

  • Almost Lethal Weapons: He survives far longer than anyone else shot by a space bug's weapon, even able to give Kedge advice on how to take out as many as possible before he succumbs to his injuries.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: He talks directly to the audience as he shows them around Purgatory.
  • Go Out with a Smile: He got into Heaven on his second try judging by his last words, which is enhanced by the fact that Shanna was waiting to take him there.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He's pretty angry and abrasive in his first appearance, but who wouldn't be after just being killed in a brutal, senseless manner? It's soon revealed he's a good, decent guy as he helps to save his fellow employees from being killed. It becomes even more apparent in his second life, when he doesn't hesitate to return for stranded soldiers and sacrifices his life trying to save them.
  • Manly Tears: He sheds them when he's forced to leave Aurthor behind in the war, leaving him to certain death.
  • No One Gets Left Behind: He has this attitude during the war, unwilling to leave a single soldier to face the space bugs. He takes it especially hard when he can't save his good friend Art.
  • Pretty Little Headshots: He's only got a small entry wound when he's killed in his first life.
  • One True Love: It's eventually revealed that Shanna was his. He almost tears up when he hears it, for while he loved her in life he never thought she loved him back.
  • Touched by Vorlons: Being reincarnated apparently allows him to see Jack when he's close to reaping one of his soldiers.

John

Species: Unknown

The third of those to be killed during the office shooting. He's left in a state of shock until the very end. He ends up going to Hell. While he eventually ends up getting his eyes opened, he can't find his way to the final step. An encounter with the Hubbard leaves him in a brainwashed state, little more than a head stuck on a rock, convinced he's completely happy.

  • Church of Happyology: What the Hubbard ends up being when he joins them.
  • Boom, Headshot!: He has the entire top of his head blown off when the office shooter kills him.
  • Heroic BSoD: All he can do is stare vacantly off into space and repeat "I'm dead..." over and over again for most of the arc. It's only when he hears the shooter's fate that he snaps out of it, shocking everyone by saying "That's fucked up."
  • Revenge Before Reason: He ends up going to Hell because in the end he doesn't want to kill the shooter to save his fellow innocent employees but purely to gain revenge. As this is considered murder, it's enough to condemn his soul, which was still being judged.

Kimberly

Species: Unknown

The last of the victims claimed during the shooter's rampage.

  • Ain't Too Proud to Beg: She begs the shooter not to kill her but it doesn't help.
  • Heroic BSoD: When she realizes she's dead, all she can do is scream and scream.
  • Kill the Cutie: She's one of the youngest in the office and innocent, which of course singles her out for the shooter's rampage.

Klvis

Species: Bear

A shooter who goes on a rampage in an office setting. He's got a dubious hold on sanity.

  • Attention Whore: Judging by the fact he was going to write a bestselling book about his experiences massacring people, he's definitely this.
  • Bears Are Bad News: He certainly is a prime villainous example of the trope.
  • Hourglass Plot: Starts off confident and in control as he sadistically kills people and ends up begging the souls he's already killed not to kill him, the same way his own victims begged.
  • Karma Houdini: His original fate is this, to end up rich and famous after being declared insane during the trial and only serving a minimal sentence in a mental facility. Everyone present admits it's completely undeserving for him...
  • Karma Houdini Warranty: ...which is why they act to change his fate.
  • Obfuscating Stupidity: He acts like he's insane but Jack says he's only just believing his own lies and not truly crazy. Judging by how calculating he is during the shooting, he's still got most of his marbles.
  • Off with His Head!: He ends up getting almost everything but his jaw completely blown off when the three souls fight back.

Arc VIII: Games We Play In Hell

Silverblue

Species: Rabbit

A young woman sentenced to Hell after committing suicide. She relives the same day over and over again for one-hundred and twenty five years, unable to remember the cycle or break it....until Jack decides to take matters into his own hand.

  • An Arm and a Leg: Gluttony rips off both her legs and then most of her lower body to eat.
  • The Cameo: She first appears in a cameo in Fnar At The Races as Vince watches her almost get eaten before a deal with Fnar saves her.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: She was sexually molested by her babysitter when she was eight years old and eventually ended up getting gang-raped, forced to watch her best friend go through the experience before she died, and killed herself after such a traumatic experience.
  • Driven to Suicide: She slit her wrists after her best friend Fealt and her were repeatedly gang-raped, with Fealt dying before the police got there.
  • Epiphany Therapy: Justified as she'd already been reliving the same day over and over again to recognize her sins. Jack just gave her the final push needed to make it stick this time.
  • Ignored Epiphany: What happened every day until Jack broke her cycle.
  • "Groundhog Day" Loop: She's been reliving the same day over and over again as seen through the lens of Hell for over a hundred years. Interestingly, she actually doesn't remember doing this until the end of each day, which is rare for a protagonist stuck in one of these loops.
  • Made of Iron: She's a lot sturdier than most citizens of Hell, even able to simply be disemboweled, having her throat slit, and losing most of her body without be respawned, any of which has killed many other Hell souls. Possibly justified since she was stuck in a loop she had to keep repeating.
  • Perky Goth: What she turns out to be once she fixes her eyes.
  • The Reliable One: Being one of the longest residents in Hell to have their eyes open and specifically telling Jack she's staying because he needs her, he often ends up confiding in her and she has genuinely become his friend.
  • Status Quo Is God: This was actually part of Hell's punishment for her.
  • Younger than She Looks: Due to the art style, Silverblue looks like an adult, but it's implied she may have been as young as a high schooler when she died and was twenty-two at the oldest, given she was still in school when she died.

Fealt

Species: Mouse

In life, she and Silver were best friends. When she died, she went to Heaven, but part of her spirit came to Hell to watch over Silver and guide her to redemption so she and Fealt can be reunited for good.

  • Spirit Advisor: What's in Hell admits she's not fully Fealt, but only the part of her that wanted to be with Silver until they can be reunited in Heaven. As she explained, it's not much of a Heaven without your best friend there.

Sepka

Species: Unknown

A timid soul in Hell who becomes something of a friend to Silverblue after she breaks the cycle.

  • Death Seeker: Played for Laughs and then Drama. In a bit of Black Comedy, Sepka is desperate to die since Silverblue has been killing her every day for one-hundred and twenty-five years and will beg random people on the street to kill her. As it turns out, regaining a desire to fully live after surviving a full day in Hell finally triggered her eyes to open.
  • Epiphany Therapy: All it took was surviving a single day in Hell to get her to recognize her sins but much like Silver she'd been trapped in a constant loop for years, so it was just the final push she needed.

Arc IX: The Mark Has Been Made

Drip's Victim

Species: Unknown

One of the few who managed to escape Drip alive, she still has understandable mental scars from the experience.

  • Catapult Nightmare: After dreaming that Drip actually killed her, this is how she wakes up.
  • There Are No Therapists: Averted. It's clear that the woman has been receiving counseling for a while now, but due to her trauma, it's still an ongoing process.

     Arc X: Suffer

Dr. Riger Thalmus

Species: Rhinoceros

A research doctor who is looking to create a cure for a form of cancer. But while he's doing this, he has a devious secret: he's sexually molesting the children in his research facility.

  • A God Am I: He says he felt like a god taking away the lives of children. He's soon brought crashing back to reality once he's in the afterlife and realizes he's a very small fish in a very large pond in Hell.
  • Artistic License – Medicine: There's no way in hell a research facility would allow a single doctor to keep all the research they're doing in his head and without a single written note being put down. It's doubtful he could remember every single last detail anyway. The fact that Thalmus was working alone at all stretches credibility as well, as something like cancer research would have a number of people all working together as a group.
  • Body Horror: It appears in Wednesday's Child, to have him appear again in the real world, the Sins resurrected his rotting body.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: He comes off as an affable, kindly doctor who's researching cancer to cure people. In reality, he's a child molester and murders several of them to keep his secret.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: A Played for Drama example. He horrifyingly seems to think his genius intellect and intent to cure cancer practically gives him the right to molest children.
  • The Chew Toy: He becomes this after death. He just gets tossed from one horrible situation to another in Hell and deserves every minute of it. It's invoked when he tries to molest Fnar, for anything bad that someone tries to do to the boy gets deflected, with Bonavin showing up just in time to maul him.
  • Horrifying the Horror: It is satisfying when Jack reveals he took one look at Drip and started running.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Deliberately hires Aurthor once he finds out his wife suffers from cancer so he'll have something to hold over his head and control him with when his secret is discovered.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: Art gives a well-deserved one when he molests another child, going so far as to step on his crotch.
  • Off with His Head!: The Gluttonys chop off his head when he's annoyed them too much. Later on, Cecelia lops off his head as well purely to be petty.
  • Sadist: He seems to find it almost funny to have killed five children.
  • Villainous Breakdown: Has one when he realize Art has Out-Gambitted him and is blowing wide open all the secrets he's tried to keep.

Aurthor 'Art' Sullivan

Species: Beaver

Hired on to work in a research facility for cancer, his main goal is to cure his wife Sue, who is suffering from it. In the end, while he makes the right choices, it comes a little too late: Sue dies and so do several children Thalmus kills. Unable to be at peace with himself when he dies, he ends up going to Purgatory after he dies. He chooses to eventually reincarnate and serves as a medic in the space war, becoming friends with Ted. He ends up dying in it and goes to Heaven afterwards to be with his wife.

  • Cruel and Unusual Death: Gets hit in his shoulder and his leg, leaving him unable to keep up with the other marines in his second life, leaving him helpless as the space bugs close in.
  • Go Out with a Smile: In his second life, terrified as he's surrounded by the space bugs about to end his life, he sees his wife Sue tearfully waiting for him on the other side and this comforts him.
  • Hollywood Heart Attack: Averted. He has two without even realizing it before the third one kills him in his first life.
  • I Will Only Slow You Down: He begs Ted to leave him and get the other marines to safety, as there's no way to save him from the bugs closing in.
  • Meaningful Echo: He prays for his wife to die in peace without pain in his first life. He's unable to fulfill that and hurts her at the very end. In his second life, he prays for a patient who is dying to be without pain when she goes to God. This time, it happens.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: He comes to the realization that he hurt his wife when she died because he wasn't able to do the right thing. This gives him the impetus to turn Thalmus in.
  • Parting-Words Regret: Hurting his wife in the last few minutes of her life by revealing the price he paid for a possible cure, when he prayed to God she wouldn't feel any pain, is one of the reasons he does the right and finally calls the police on Thalmus.
  • Psychic Powers: Arty appears to be attuned to the supernatural. He's able to see Drip influencing Thalmus and later on can see Jack in his second life.
  • Reincarnation-Identifying Trait: He trains to be a doctor in his first life and as an army medic in his second, still intent on saving lives.
  • Sadistic Choice: He's forced to choose between keeping Thalmus's secret and saving his wife or turning him in and letting her die.
  • There's No Kill like Overkill: He gets pumped full of dozens of shots from the space bugs in his second life to kill him.
  • True Companions: He and Ted have served the longest together in combat and Ted takes his death the hardest of all the marines killed.

Susan 'Sue' Sullivan

Species: Unknown

Art's wife and sick with a fatal form of cancer. She has a chance at Heaven but instead turns it down to remain in Purgatory with her husband. She reincarnates first and dies again before he does, this time going to Heaven to wait for them to be reunited. She comes to him on the battlefield when his time is up to welcome him.

  • Alliterative Name: Her first and last name both start with S.
  • Ill Girl: Being sick with a cancer that's killing her is Art's motivation for trying to find a cure.
  • So Proud of You: The happy tears and smile she sports when she welcomes Art after his second death says it all without a word.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Her last words are telling Art that she doesn't want a cure at the price of him keeping silent about the children being molested and killed.

Skye Bluedeer

Species: Angel/Deer

Formerly one of the original angels who was sent to Hell after Lucifer's rebellion, he now runs Purgatory after asking for God's forgiveness. God has told him only when Purgatory is no longer needed can he return to Heaven but he assures the souls there he's willing to wait forever because Heaven is worth the wait.

  • The Atoner: After siding with Satan during the battle between him and God, he eventually asked forgiveness and was granted it.
  • Eye Scream: Something happened to his eyes during the battle for Heaven. The flashbacks to him still in Hell show him with them tightly shut at all times, suggesting that they may have even been gouged out.
  • Good Wings, Evil Wings: He has a pair of wings on his back which resemble the horns on his head rather than the bat wings of a demon or feathery wings of an angel. They look a little tattered and broken.
  • Healing Hands: Not for the body like the angels but for the soul. He wipes away the marks Drip left on Fnar, both physical and mental, so he can start his new life fresh.
  • Heel–Face Turn: He underwent one of these eons ago, going from one of those who fell in Lucifer's rebellion to becoming the gentle guardian of Purgatory after asking and being granted God's forgiveness.
  • Reflective Eyes: A permanent case. His eyes are like two mirrors and reflect the world around him without any pupils within them.
  • Worth It: He considers all the many ages he's spent in Purgatory to be worth it since it will eventually get him back to Heaven.

Arc XI: Why Do You Do What You Do?

Drip's Lizard Victim

Species: Lizard

A victim that played a pivotal point in locking Drip into the position of the Sin of Lust. Had he let her live, he would have continued to wrestle with his emotions over killing, but ending her life was the point of no return for him.

  • Disappeared Dad: She mentions her dad left when she was seven.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: She suffered greatly in life, already hinting at having a Dark and Troubled Past even before Drip raped and killed her, but her reward is an eternal paradise in Heaven.
  • Not Afraid of You Anymore: After getting to Heaven, she's able to stop being afraid of Drip, even letting a part of him into her Heaven. She knows he's powerless there, nothing but the sad, scared person he is on the inside.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: She asks Farrago why as an angel she didn't save her. Farrago can only cry in silence, knowing the rules meant she couldn't intervene.
  • Wise Beyond Their Years: Despite dying young, Farrago learns a lot from having a talk with her in Heaven.

     Arc XII: Jack's Friend Fiver

Fiver/Number Seventy-Eight

Species: Rabbit

An associate of Jack in life, he died after "the world was made to change hands." In death he resides in Hell due to what he and Jack did in life. He is one of the oldest residents there, being one of the first furs created. It's implied being unable to forgive himself of his sins is what is preventing him from opening his eyes.

  • All Love Is Unrequited: Pages not published on the site detailing his death set to the lyrics of Thoughts Of A Dying Athiest by Muse imply he was in love with Breezy, who never noticed him since she was in a relationship with Jack.
  • Berserk Button: Calling him Fiver.
  • Embarrassing First Name: He's none too fond of the fact Jack named him Fiver in life.
  • Groin Attack: Megan uses a sledgehammer on his crotch area after her rapes her. He's unable to do anything afterwards but scream in pain.
  • Laughing Mad: After he and the bartender tear each other to pieces, he's left a gibbering lunatic, and Jack knows he'll get no answers out of him any longer.
  • Meaningful Name: The name Fiver is a reference to one of the rabbit protagonists of Watership Down. It implies that like Hazel and Fiver in the book, Jack and Fiver had a close, brotherly relationship in life.
  • No Biological Sex: Like most of the early furs, he was born without genitalia.
  • Nothing but Skin and Bones: His gaunt appearance in Hell, ribs sticking out and bones clearly outlined everywhere, imply that his death possibly might have been in part by starvation.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: When he realizes that Jack has caused the end of the world, he really lets loose.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: He was a much more decent individual in life, though he admitted he was an asshole even then. But in death he's become a corrupted, twisted, and evil person.
  • Undying Loyalty: In life, he had this with Jack, though in death he feels nothing but contempt for the Reaper.
  • You Are Number 6: He was given the number 78 in life as his designation.

Arc XIII: One Way To Win

Janice

Species: Dog

A victim of a carjacking by Taylor, she's not about to just roll over and become his next victim.

  • Author Avatar: Janice was apparently based of Dave's older sister Penny who he greatly admires.
  • Bait-and-Switch: Jack is seen in her car in the beginning apologizing to her, leading the reader to believe she'll be dead as another victim of Taylor's by the end. It turns out he was there for Taylor, not her, and was apologizing for what she'd have to go through in order to bring about that death.
  • Hope Bringer: For Jack himself! Her actions inspire him to take a more proactive role in helping the victims of Hell.
  • Meaningful Name: Janice can mean "gift from God" and indeed she's the catalyst for a lot of what Jack does after this arc in the comic.
  • Silk Hiding Steel: For the first half of the story, she's scared and crying. Once she decides to take action, nothing will stop her, not even a shot to the leg.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Despite only appearing in one story arc, her actions inspire Jack to help people, leading to many of the other discoveries like how to leave Hell for good.
  • Visual Pun: No wonder she's at odds with Taylor. Dogs never get along with cats.

Taylor

Species: Cat

Drip's second "apprentice", a man he trained to live off of killing like he did, who he told to continue on after he died so that the police would think they had gotten the wrong guy.

  • Depraved Bisexual: As nasty a piece of work as his teacher and willing to have sex with both genders.
  • Didn't Think This Through: He comes to realize he's made a big mistake when Janice starts driving so fast there's no way for him to get control of the car again if he kills her.
  • Frame-Up: He continued on with Drip's M.O. after he died so it would appear the police caught the wrong guy:
  • Half the Man He Used to Be: His manner of death. Since he's not wearing a seat belt, the force rips him in two when the car crashes, sending his front half flying several feet away from the car while the lower half remains in the vehicle.
  • Have I Mentioned I Am Heterosexual Today?: He's very adamant he's not gay despite having had a willing relationship with Drip.
  • The Sociopath: Drip sure knew how to pick 'em. Despite Drip himself having people he cares about, all Taylor seems to be interested in is torturing and killing as many women as possible.
  • Unreliable Narrator: Almost nothing he tells Janice is completely true and the art contrasts this, showing what really happened as he tells lies. He claims to have left a young victim alive when in reality she's dead, says Drip killed his girlfriend when he did it as his first kill, and claims he wasn't a willing participate when he and Drip had sex when by all appearances he was enjoying it.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: The last that is heard of him is Jack mentioning he's been reunited with Drip. But after that no mentions are made of his status in Hell, though it's possible Drip simply added him to the Valley of Lust.

     Arc XIV: It's Like Cancer

Vinci Nicolaides

Species: Raccoon/Chihuahua

A Canon Immigrant from the webcomic Vinci and Arty, Word of God is that this version of Vinci is from a parallel universe, and therefore the Jack stories are not their "official" ending. Vinci had cancer when he was young but was able to beat it. He was in a happy relationship with his partner Arty until Arty suddenly died when they were in their fifties. Despite having a daughter, Greer, to care for he killed himself out of despair when he found out his cancer had come back. Now he's stuck as a damned soul in Hell while Arty is in Heaven, separating the two devoted lovers. Hell makes him forget all about Arty, thinking he'd been alone his entire life. After he regains his memory, the act of which opens his eyes, he requests Arty not visit him again, as it's too painful for him to see the man who made him so happy in life without being able to truly be with him once again. He spends his days running a bakery and watching over the young yumar Bashful.

Eventually, after a traumatic experience that leaves him almost with his eyes closed again, he agrees to leave Hell and try life again with Bashful. Growing up with the two of them being close as brothers, he once again dies of cancer, but this time goes peacefully in bed having fought it to the very end. Arty joyfully welcomes him into Heaven and he becomes an angel as well, helping him to watch over the still-damned souls in Hell.

  • A Form You Are Comfortable With: Despite dying in his fifties, he still looks like a young man while in Hell.
  • Chocolate Baby: His parents were half-raccoon, half-chihuahua but looked entirely chihuahua. Vinci inherited their recessive genes and is a pureblooded raccoon, though apparently technically he also could have been registered as a pureblooded chihuahua due to his genetic makeup. The only thing he's inherited from them is bigger ears than usual for a raccoon.
  • Deadpan Snarker: He's definitely got a quip for every occasion.
  • Delicate and Sickly: He's a cute little raccoon who has cancer in his first appearance.
  • Driven to Suicide: He kills himself by overdosing on his pills.
  • Dude Looks Like a Lady: He's often mistaken for being a woman due to his short stature and braided hairstyle.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: Eventually, he reincarnates, tries life again, and this time earns his way into Heaven.
  • Happy Ending Override: At the end of It's Like Cancer, things were looking up for the pair. But eventually it's revealed Vinci dies by suicide after losing Arty while they're still relatively young.
  • Heroic Willpower: When he's respawned, it turns out his eyes didn't remain open. He pushes back against what Hell tries to inflict on him and gets them to open back up again.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: Hell inflicts this upon him, making him think he was alone for his entire life.
  • One True Love: His forever love is Arty.
  • Passed in Their Sleep: Happens in his second life, allowing him the chance to pass peacefully he originally didn't get.
  • Star-Crossed Lovers: Being a damned soul in Hell with his partner as an angel in Heaven.
  • Wham Shot: Many readers were shocked the first time around when the first instance of Vinci showing up after It's Like Cancer was a picture showing he was in Hell.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: He chews out Arty immensely when it's revealed there's a way out of Hell but the angels aren't telling anyone simply because of bureaucratic rules. As he points out, as a teacher he didn't tell his students the answer, but at least he made them aware that there was a problem to solve at all.
    • Gets one again as he and Arty chew out Central over not wanting to help Megan, again simply because it was against the rules.

Artisan 'Arty' Patrick Sunspot

Species: Yumar (Cheetah/Otter/Koi hybrid)

A Canon Immigrant from the webcomic Vinci and Arty, Word of God is that this version of Arty is from a parallel universe, and therefore the Jack stories are not their "official" ending. Arty has a temper as a young man and has to learn how to control it, especially when his partner Vinci gets sick with cancer. He abruptly died in his fifties, and partly due to the courageous act that cost him his life, he was sent straight to Heaven. Becoming an angel, he sought out Vinci in Hell, unwilling to leave him there.

Due to going rogue to find Vinci, he's not allowed back into Hell for a long while. When he does, he and Vinci get into an argument which ends with him leaving Vinci alone again for a long while at his partner's request. When he comes back, it's to save Vinci from the Gluttonys. He's there to watch over Vinci when he ultimately chooses to be reincarnated again along with Bashful, watching over him his whole life until Vinci dies again and they can be reunited for good. He stays an angel and Vinci becomes one as well, allowing them to continue to watch over the souls of Hell who need their help.

  • A Form You Are Comfortable With: He died in his fifties but prefers to look like his young self. Knowing him, it's because he thinks he looked more beautiful then.
  • Bait-and-Switch: He's seen talking at a gravestone and the reader is led to believe it's Vinci's. Turns out it's his father's and Arty is talking to him about how he's let go of his anger over the past year.
  • Berserk Button: Jeremy cruelly accuses him of giving Vinci AIDS, an act which almost ends with him beating the man up.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Comes in to save Vinci and Bashful from the Gluttonys' torment.
  • Character Development: Part of his arc in It's Like Cancer is learning to let go of his anger before it (quite literally) poisons his life
  • Freudian Excuse: A lot of his anger as a young man comes from his father having killed himself the day after Arty came out to his parents. This is only exacerbated when he thinks Vinci might die from cancer and leave him alone again, just like his father did.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: He dies saving a woman from a burning building. The strain is too much on his heart and he dies of a heart attack right after.
  • Hot-Blooded: He's got a big temper on him when he's young, though most wouldn't want to tangle with him as an angel either.
  • One True Love: Vinci is his soulmate now and forever.
  • Pretty Boy: With the long hair and feline features, he's definitely more on the pretty side than the ruggedly handsome one.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: Eventually with Jeremy of all people. The two of them snipe and snark at each other but ultimately turn out to be good friends. Vinci and Arty even attend his wedding!

Lucas Sunspot

Species: Yumar (Cheetah/Otter/Koi hybrid)

In life, he was homophobic and had many mental health issues. After Arty came out to him, he killed himself and was sent to Hell. His redemption comes when he's able to talk Arty out of holding onto his anger.

  • Driven to Suicide: He kills himself by shooting himself in the head.
  • Hot-Blooded: Much like his son, he had a lot of anger, mostly directed at himself during his life.
  • It's All About Me: He admits his suicide had nothing to do with his son and everything to do with his own selfishness.
  • Like Father, Like Son: Both Lucas and Arty held onto a lot of anger in their lives, though both eventually went through Character Development to let go of it eventually.
  • Spirit Advisor: Comes to Arty in his hour of need to give him some much-needed advice courtesy of some help from Farrago and Jack.
  • "Well Done, Son" Guy: His son always wanted his approval. In life, he wasn't able to get it, but Lucas was able to express how much he loved him as a ghost.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: It's not shown what happens to him after his eyes are opened, though the fact Arty doesn't look for him in Hell once he becomes an angel suggests he eventually redeemed himself for another chance at life.

Arc XV: Hell Is That Noise

Todd

Species: Unknown

A soldier in WWI, Todd committed many horrible acts, including killing over a hundred children. He blames this on destiny and fate, refusing to take any responsibility for his actions. In Hell, he demands to see the Devil, whom he is convinced is the one who made him do everything rather than following his own free will. Even after having it spelled out to him by the Devil that he and he alone was responsible for his actions, he still refuses to see his fate has always been in his own hands. He eventually escapes Hell once he figures out how everything works... until the Devil reveals he never left and this has all just been a game to torment him more.

  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: Or the Seventh Wall in his case.
  • Driven to Suicide: He slits his own throat when he learns Molly is dead rather than be forced to return to the frontlines of WWI.
  • Fate Worse than Death: After seeing what happened to Molly when only three shades got a hold of her, he's desperate not to let the children he killed catch up to him.
  • Just Following Orders: His reasoning behind killing children is that he was just following the orders of his commander, despite the fact he could have disobeyed at any point.
  • Mundane Object Amazement: He thinks a modern gun that can shoot rounds quickly is "surely a weapon of mass destruction."
  • Never My Fault: He thinks his entire life has been predestined and therefore he's got no control over all the things he's done. His punishment in Hell is to actually have this happen, with the Devil now able to control his entire life.
  • Slashed Throat: How he died. The wound remains on him in Hell, even when his other injuries are able to be healed by Vanity.

Molly

Species: Unknown

A mentally disturbed woman who kills her three infant daughters because in her deranged mind she thinks her husband will be disappointed they're not sons. She's sent to Hell after killing herself and is haunted by three shades representing her three daughters.

  • Deliver Us from Evil: Averted. She's too insane to seek redemption even when she embraces the role of motherhood she denied for so long and instead the shades kill her once more.
  • Driven to Suicide: Unable to cope with the guilt of killing her daughters and being separated from Todd, she kills herself.
  • Hanging Around: She hangs herself from a tree.
  • Sanity Slippage: If she ever possessed sanity, it is long gone by the time we meet her in Hell Is That Noise.
  • Sympathetic Adulterer: She sleeps with two other men while Todd is away at war. In her suicide note, she explains it wasn't lust or love, but that she just so badly wanted to produce a son for him she was willing to have sex with others.
  • Wham Line: "I killed them because you didn't want a girl and that's all I could give you!!"
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: She's not seen again after Vanity rips her skin off, though one of the shades of her daughter mentions later on that they are still tormenting her.
  • Would Hurt a Child: She killed innocent babies simply because in her twisted mind she had to produce a son for her husband.

Addy

Species: Shade

Originally designed simply to torment Molly, she grows beyond her programming once Fnar shows her genuine love and kindness, becoming his "girlfriend" while he's in Hell. She later requests he seek out the soul she was based on that is now reincarnated back on Earth when he leaves Hell so he can love a more full version of her.

  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Fnar's innocent love for her allows her to soften and learn to love him in return, becoming more than just the soulless shade she started out as..
  • Hidden Depths: At first just a ruthless facsimile of life created to torment a damned soul, she eventually starts to become something of a person in her own right, even learning how to cry because she knows Fnar will eventually leave her.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: Despite her sadness at Fnar leaving her, she wants him to so he can live a better life where he can love the actual soul she was based on instead of an incomplete version of her.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: She isn't seen again after Fnar leaves Hell. It's possible she ceased to exist now that her duty in caring for Fnar was over and the soul she was based on could become a person of her own again.

     Arc XVI: Welcome to Purgatory

Durp

Species: Angel/Unknown

Another guardian of Purgatory that works along Skye Bluedeer.

  • Flight: Apparently has the power to fly despite not having any physical wings like the angels do.
  • Innocent Fanservice Girl: She's completely naked but this seems to more be a case of not being bound by mortal standards of nudity than any true desire of titillation the way Heaven's angels do.

Pink

Species: Unknown

One of God's angels, she works in both Purgatory and Hell.

  • Amazing Technicolor Wildlife: As her name would suggest, she's got pink fur when shown in color.
  • Heroic BSoD: She's quite shaken up after spying on Drip and those stuck on the walls of his cavern, curled upright afterwards as she contemplates what she just saw.
  • Shameless Fanservice Girl: She's not at all sorry about heavily flirting with Ted while in a skimpy dress.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: She hasn't been seen in a very long time, possibly because her original creator (someone other than Holbrook) grew to dislike her character.

     Arc XVII: Fnar's Vacation

Sue Deer

Species: Deer

A new soul who just arrived in Heaven, she looks for her brother Kenneth before finally finding him.

  • Audience Surrogate: Since she's brand-new to Heaven, the readers get to learn about how Heaven works through her eyes.
  • Naïve Newcomer: She almost gets into trouble in Rachel's Heaven since she doesn't yet know how personal Heavens work.

Rachel

Species: Unknown

A young woman who waits in Heaven for her serial-killer boyfriend trapped in Hell, who is implied to be Drip or one of the two apprentices we know were likely straight. (The third Fangs was gay.) She's designed her Heaven as a paradise for him to hunt victims and make friends with other serial killers for eternity as a way to entice him to repent and try life again.

  • A Match Made in Stockholm: From what we've learned about at least Drip and Taylor (nothing is still known about his first apprentice), the fact this poor woman thinks she's a girlfriend to one of these monsters suggests she'd deluded herself into thinking they actually loved her in life when in fact she may have just been another one of their victims.
  • Alternative Character Interpretation: Was she really the girlfriend of one of the serial killers who brutally raped and killed dozens of women in life or has she told herself that lie for so long she now finally believes it?
  • Broken Bird: Despite being in Heaven, she's incredibly sad and lonely, tearing up as Sue leaves and only able to give a small, sad smile as she says she hopes her boyfriend's desire for a personal Heaven will change if he experiences life a second time.
  • Hell of a Heaven: She almost quotes this trope. Her Heaven seems absolutely atrocious to outsiders and more like something found in Hell but she deliberately designed it that way in hopes her boyfriend will want to try life again and be with her.

Jill

Species: Rabbit

Jack's first love and the second furry made. She died after a human brutally raped and killed her, all while Jack was unable to stop what was going on, only hearing her agonized screams for help. Her death was Jack's Cynicism Catalyst and initially his reason for doing much of what he did in life, though eventually that became more of an excuse to continue to spread his pain to others.

  • First Girl Wins: Though Jack has had other loves in both life and death, his love for her was something that never dimmed. On her end, despite thousands of years having passed since she first died, she still hasn't finished her Heaven in hopes that they might someday be reunited.
  • Hidden Depths: While at first she appears to be little more than a Flat Character and a woman stuffed in the fridge for Jack, she's shown to be well-aware of what she means to Jack, and how her brutal death shaped him into becoming what he is today when Central talks with her in Heaven.
  • The Lost Lenore: Jack was never fully able to cope with and get over the trauma of losing her in a brutal fashion when they were young.
  • Loving a Shadow: She worries this is what Jack's love for her has turned into, given he remembers he once loved her, but he doesn't remember why. She's afraid he's changed so much that the two of them are no longer compatible and she's more of a goal for him to attain than a person he feels true love for.
  • Nice Girl: What she appears to be.
  • No Biological Sex: She was born without any being one of the first furs.
  • Punny Name: Jack and Jill. Get it?
  • Rape as Drama: She was brutally raped by a human man, which was made all the worse by the fact she didn't have any sex organs, which meant he had to cut a hole in her in order to be able to properly rape her. She died from the experience.

     Arc XVIII: Frightened Virgil

Virgil

Species: Unknown

One of the survivor's of Brian's school shooting, he held guilt for not being able to stop it for many years, feeling he killed his friends as surely as Brian did. Driven to Suicide, Jack is supposed to take him to Hell, but feels such compassion for the young man that he can't help but break the rules in order to help him find redemption. With Jack and Farrago's help, his eyes are opened and he's able to find redemption, asking God for forgiveness and being reincarnated as one of Joann and Jeremy's twins along with Arleost. In his second life, he's a cop, and helps Megan along with his sister.

  • Ate His Gun: A variation. He stick the gun in his mouth but eventually shoots himself under the chin instead.
  • Dirty Coward: He feels he's this for being unable to act when Brian shot up the school. The truth is much more complicated.
  • Epiphany Therapy: Invoked. The sufferance zone is specifically designed to get a soul to understand what sin they committed in their lives, so the process was specially made for Virgil to realize his sin was killing himself.
  • My Greatest Failure: Failing to stop Brian's rampage weighed heavily on him for his entire life to the point he committed suicide over it.
  • My Greatest Second Chance: His second life is pretty much this for him, allowing him to help Megan after his own soul was saved.
  • Survivor Guilt: This is the crux of why he feels he's sinned. Virgil feels he didn't deserve to live when he wasn't able to protect his friends.

Pomfrans

Species: Pomfran

Creatures who are said to be burners of the dead, they also have the ability to create sufferance zones, states of limbo that allow those being judged before going to their afterlives to change their fate.

  • All Animals Are Dogs: They act very doglike, wanting to be cuddle and told they're good. Justified in that they're not Earth Animals.
  • Ridiculously Cute Critter: Even with Hopkins's usual cute style, they stand out as being especially adorable, cute little pink blob animals with black bead eyes.
  • Theme Naming: All their names start with the letter P. Pelt, Prelude, Perfume...

     BS IV: Mahalo

Dangar

Species: Rabbit

A radio host who has long since become cynical after dealing with people on "Lust Line."

  • Batman Gambit: He goads the abusive boyfriend deliberately so that he''ll stand up so the police can take a shot at him. It works.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: He's got a heck of one.
  • Knight in Sour Armor: Despite being a jerk for much of the arc, he ends up regaining some of his faith in his audience when he's able to help rescue a young woman from distress and meets a fan who earnestly tells him he's helped change her life.
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed: Based off of Adam Carolla, one of the hosts of the popular radio show "Loveline." He even namedrops him towards the end of the arc.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: He's the the emotional and angry red in contrast to his co-host's blue.

Doctor Steve

Species: Deer

The other host of the show who has a lot more patience with their callers and Dangar both.

Sapphira

Species: Unknown

A young woman told by the radio hosts to break up with her abusive boyfriend Eddy. When she does, he takes her hostage with a gun, and makes her call back in to tell them what's going on.

  • Damsel in Distress: The whole arc revolves around trying to save her from being killed by her crazy ex.
  • Domestic Abuse: Her boyfriend was beating her and keeping her from her friends.

Eddy

Species: Unknown

He takes his ex-girlfriend hostage with a gun after she breaks up with him and call into "Lust Line" to tell them what's going on.

  • Crazy Jealous Guy: His character in a nutshell.
  • If I Can't Have You…: He's intent on killing his girlfriend if anyone intervenes.
