resolved Possible agenda-driven example Web Original
Troper darkpowrjd has added a few examples to the YMMV page for Jimquisition, and while two of them have already been removed for not being YMMV tropes (one of which was a The Friend Nobody Likes example with a whiff of drama importation about it), they also added this sub bullet for Seasonal Rot that has a similar, if not worse, air about it:
- Jim seemly made this worse by consistently bring that up as the ONLY reason behind the drop in subscribers and viewership, thereby attacking those that had left for reasons completely unrelated to the transition. These include a sudden shift into being what could be seen as more militant and complaining that people call their videos getting way too political note This meaning that Jim touches on sensitive issues and has such an absolutist viewpoint about them that people can feel uncomfortable in being allowed to discuss it at all with them.. Jim also has seen a way to interject jabs at "alt-right" people and those that seem to want to counter their videos seemly all the time, especially when the jabs are shrouded in overgeneralizing the group that had the opinion they disagreed with, and what the opinion the group actually held.
Perhaps this is just me reading too deep into things, but putting "alt-right" in incredulous quotation marks in this context and putting such a label in the same category as "the group that had the opinion they disagreed with" and "those that seem to want to counter their videos" are massive red flags as far as the position the edit was made from is concerned, especially since this double bullet comes immediately after the bullet that acknowledges that the bigotry against Sterling coming out as Non-Binary was a noticeable factor in the perceived Seasonal Rot. And all of this is assuming that the "consistently bringing that up as the ONLY reason" remark is even true.
Basically, I'm suspecting that a rather odious agenda was behind this edit, but I'd like to be sure it isn't just me before I cut it.
Edited by Akriloth2160openTroper with Indentation issues, refuses to cooperate with messaged Web Original
A troper by the name of Mack regularly breaks the rule written in Example Indentation in Trope Lists.
For example, some past examples of their violations include:
WebAnimation/Hololive - Sep 4th
- Animation Bump: A character getting their 3D model debut is considered this as they get high quality 3D virtual reality models they can perform in a full virtual space with.
Characters/HololiveJapan (now Characters/HololiveJapanGenerationFour) - Sep 9th
- Amusing Injuries: Subverted. In her collaboration stream with Subaru she physically fell off her chair and landed on the floor very hard after a particularly nasty Jump Scare in the VR Horror game they were playing. It aggravated existing neck pain so badly that she had to go to the hospital. Scans showed she did not break any bones but her injury was still quite serious as it caused damage of the ligaments in her neck. During her recovery from the neck injury she also suffered from side effects to the pain medicine she was taking that made her sick.
- Not long after that, Luna had to have an injection in her right hand after developing tendonitis.
YMMV/Hololive - 15th Sep
- Most Wonderful Sound: A lot of YouTube commenters like to say that Watame's giggle puts a smile on their face.
- Amelia Watson has garnered the same reaction from viewers in her early streams.
I have fixed these three entries, but keep in mind that this is only within the hololive namespace, god knows how many other instances they have done this in other works.
Their most recent one in hololive is:
Characters/HololiveEnglish - 27th Sep
- American Kirby Is Hardcore: The Japanese cast's characters are all a variation of many different motifs. The first generation of English-speaking v-tubers? They all got an Eldritch Abomination motif.
- Where the Japanese branch members generally started their careers by playing up the wholesome idol "seiso" characterisation, the HoloEN branch are unsurprisingly more like traditional western streamers.
I have already messaged them three times about it, but the only response I got back from them is:
Can something be done about this please? Even though they do write some decent entries when not breaking the rules, this issue has gone on for long enough.
Edited by Asoktenchearesolved Puzzling Values Dissonance addition Web Original
I found this Values Dissonance example on the YMMV page for Zero Punctuation that raised an eyebrow, mostly thanks to a sentence that was added near the end of October (highlighted in bold italics):
- He suggests that this is why he dislikes games such as Call Of Duty. The games rely on the premise that the player possesses some degree of nationalism towards the United States, and for obvious reasons, he has no such feelings. That being said, his extremely negative portrayal of America isn't that flattering to those that are American or support the country either. The fact that he lives there, married an American woman, and has a kid there in 2020 simply reinforces the incredible hypocrisy.
I'm already wary of attempts to point out alleged hypocrisies for the sake of a gotcha like what this added sentence reads like it's doing, but it also comes somewhat out of nowhere in this case, in a rather complain-y way. To say nothing of other factors that negate said accusations of hypocrisy, such as how complaining about media depictions doesn't necessarily translate to complaints about every facet of a country, or how it's not an issue to complain about a society that you're a part of. I'd like some thoughts on this before I do anything (other than swap the link at the start for an archive link, since most of the pre-revival Escapist articles seem to have gone under at some point over the past two years)
Edited by Akriloth2160openTroper spreading misleading information Web Original
Bfb Joe has a bad habit of spreading misleading information about the contentious "If Mario Was The Last Man On Earth":
- They started out by posting entries about an "alternative" ending in which Mario's friends hug him, forcing fellow troper Wingnut to revert everything.
- Then, just recently, they started troping weird things about "National No Mario Day". This time, I had to revert everything.
- On a non-SMG4 note, they vandalized Pocoyo's character's page... with info from an SMG4 episode.
EDIT: And now they edit warred by adding back what I deleted; while this time, they nailed the episode's info correctly, they still added back the tropes they added and that I deleted, some of which are misuse.
Edited by skan123resolved Incredibly rude troper Web Original
Estoban 445 made this very rude edit which almost came off as an anti-LGBTQ stance.
Naturally, I restored it and sent a rudeness notifier. They responded to that by calling us idiots and accusing us of not being family-friendly.
Edited by skan123openCanon Description in Fanon Page? Web Original
In Dream SMP, most of Dream's section in the "Character-specific" folder is about "apologist discourse", which is about how the fandom either subject's Dream's character to either Draco in Leather Pants or Ron the Death Eater as well as a very long list of subbullets detailing his canonical actions and attitude. While the overall main "fanon" and "canon" bullets are fine in my opinion, I believe the multiple subbullets under it are unnecessary, given how the page is about common headcanons regarding the characters and setting of the roleplay while the subbullets are about canon. It should also be mentioned that the page is mostly maintained by Aqua Eclipse, who is prolific in expanding the Dream SMP subpages, and I don't want to end up in a situation like an Edit War. Should I remove the offending section and edit it to be more concise?
Edited by Excessive-MenaceopenDuelling Works page format Web Original
Does anyone else find that the table based formatting of the subpages makes things almost impossible to read? For example on Anime & Manga, the first thing you see is this:
S
u
p
er
Di
m
e
n
si
o
n
F
or
tr
e
ss
M
a
c
r
o
ss
(1
9
8
2)
which is pretty much unreadable. Any way we can fix this?
Edited by Exxolonopen Mod intervention requested Web Original
Hello, Mods? I'm new here so I don't exactly know how things work here , do I need to make a new post? but can we get Morpmorp looked into? I find their frequent edits (https://tinyurl.com/kitfo ) to be bordering on obsessive. Are they a mod of this site? They act like they are on Lily's wiki page as a mod where pages are frequently watched and reverted whenever someone makes an edit they don't like. I understand they must feel a need to protect Lily from bashing but this doesn't really work to create a realistic image of Lily or her content ( specifically Lilys Poke Madhouse. ) - It's impossible to edit the pages on Poke Madhouse 's trivia without them coming in and reverting it back to their own entry even when the edits are not Creator Bashing. For example, I added an entry to ymmv instead of the character because it fit that page better and morpmorp deleted it. If you look at their edit page, it's entirely related to Lily.
Edited by kittyfoopenWork page that misrepresents/sanitizes creator Web Original
WebVideo.Overlord DVD is... weird.
From the page's description and tropes, it sounds like a campy, skit-based review show. It is instead, by and large, someone spouting up complaints, made up rumors, and outright lies about properties he doesn't like with the framing device of being a supervillain.
I do think it's tropeable to some extent in that the lore and theatricality is there, but completely glossing over the fact that the videos are just straight "news" and primarily exist to promote a culture war is weird.
I brought it up in the Works that Promote Bigotry Thread but I thought I'd post it here since A: That thread is very slow and B: the issue of a work being misrepresented may be a broader discussion.

Edited by bwburke94openCan I/How to undo an offensive edit Web Original
The main page for Contra Points was edited on January 30th to remove some sections with the following reason listed
'Removed all references to Chris-chan. He's not a transwoman, he's a retard and agknowlaging him as trans isn't doing the trans community any favours.'
The edit was completely unnecessary since the sections deleted did actually pertain to Contra Points videos, and the reasoning given is ableist and gatekeeps the trans community in a harmful way. Would it be possible/out of line to simply undo this edit?
openProblematic Review Web Original
Kelekona left a review for Protectors of the Plot Continuum, which is basically them importing personal drama from their interactions with the authors and not actually reviewing the work itself.
I flagged the review for drama importation, and Very Melon left a couple comments criticizing the review for that. Kelekona then decided to make a YMMV page for them, accusing them of being "pro-bullying". So now, this has descended into personal attacks against other users on the site.

openCurb-Stomp Battles of Death Battle Web Original
It's come to recent attention that the Curb-Stomp Battle page for DEATH BATTLE! has a lot of issues. The page lists a lot of fights as examples, to the point that literally every episode from season six is listed. However, the entries seem to only focus on the post-fight analysis that determined the winner and not how the actual fight played out. The fight itself could be portrayed as pretty even, only for the analysis to point out the discrepancy between the two fighters.
Even if the hosts explain the fight was actually pretty close, those matches will still be listed because the victor had the advantage, which seems like misuse. I tried to clean up entries that were listed as "downplayed", but they were simply added back with slight alterations that the hosts were just explaining the loser's strengths. I think the page should focus on the fights themselves, and not rely solely on the post-fight wrap-up. At the very least, the page needs a clean-up.
Edited by chasemaddiganopen Bloody excessive adverts on tvt Web Original
As of today, there's a banner advert popping up at the bottom of the page that wasn't there yesterday - this is new. Seems to be organised by something called "PROPER<>" and however often you hit the X to whack it down and get rid, it keeps coming back and appears every time you switch to a new page. Click on whatever's being advertised, you get "ad closed by Google". Is this new to tvtropes, and how do you get rid of it completely, as it's annoying and intrusive? I mean - ad at the top of the page, ad on the right hand side, no problem, tvt has to get revenue - but ads spilling over into the actual content of the page itself - not acceptible.

openRemoved YMMV examples re-added by creator Web Original
In December, YMMV.The Annotated Series had its examples on The Scrappy and Rescued from the Scrappy Heap removed for various reasons as part of The Scrappy Cleanup. The month after, troper Hurp Durp Man Guy, a part of the Annotated Series team, added the examples again with the reasoning being "As part of the Annotation Series, we run this page." Am I correct to believe this violates The Fic May Be Yours, but the Trope Page Is Ours?

openRed Letter Media and the Max Landis controversy Web Original
I have an important question about editing the pages on RedLetterMedia and its shows.
Just recently, The Daily Beast published an article of first-hand testimonies accusing the screenwriter/filmmaker Max Landis of emotional and sexual abuse. While rumors of his sexual misconduct had long circulated, this was the first time that first-hand testimonies were actually made public. In the aftermath, RedLetterMedia has unlisted two video collaborations with Landis, an interview with him and a Best of the Worst review of Neil Breen’s Double Down, from YouTube. The latter is particularly noteworthy, as it was the most viewed Best Of The Worst episode on the channel at the time it was unlisted and gave a significant Colbert Bump to Neil Breen’s filmography.
While I think this should be addressed on the trivia subpages, I’m concerned of running afoul of the Rule of Cautious Editing Judgment (especially given how recent the controversy is). What should I do? How should this controversy be handled?
Edited by Pemulis_128
Troper Bowserbros tends to have major and recurring issues with Fan Myopia and overly-lengthy entries in many of their edits across multiple pages. Oftentimes they will use the YMMV pages to soapbox about personal grievances while pretending those opinions are held by a large number of fans, and also a tendency to for said entries to get bogged down in Nattery excessive and irrelevant details that are not informative (one example here). A great deal of my edits to the Vinesauce page are, essentially, me performing janitorial duties on their entries to make them comprehensible (in addition to the above, they have a lot of issues with Sesquipedalian Loquaciousness and overly-stiff prose), or to remove instances of misuse or shoehorning.
I am not the only person to have issues with them. Some other examples of people talking about edits of theirs can be found here and here (attribution here, in responsible to a post by me about the same troper here).
Other issues that don't quite violate trope etiquette but are still worth noting, are that a lot of their edits are about external drama or the personal lives of video game streamers and let's players, things that are still technically tropeworthy but mildly creepy.
I have PM'd them in the past about their issues, but while they seem to be sincere in their efforts to improve, it has largely been falling upon deaf ears.
Just recently they made yet another edit to Vinesauce that AGAIN, seems to be absurdly lengthy for the amount of meaningful information they intend to convey. Not only that but it seems to be an ROCEJ violation at that, as I was not even aware of that controversy until now because of them, and don't believe that matter should have even been brought up on the page in the first place unless people were actually making edits of that nature.
