* HePannedItNowHeSucks: While Vinny isn't a reviewer ''per se'', he'll occasionally give his opinion on a game, especially if it's at the end of a long-running series. His opinions are generally moderate even if it's obvious he really liked (or disliked) a particular game, which causes some of his fans to lambast him for not worshipping a game or labeling it the spawn of Satan himself. Vinny is often aware of this and tends not to "review" the games he plays as a result, knowing full well the sheer amount of negative attention he gets when he does so. ''Even then'', he'll still get flak for anything he says, such as:
** ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyVIIRemake'': He generally liked the game, but he wasn't blown away by it like he expected to be, and didn't really know what to make of the game's twist ending. Naturally, people put words in his mouth and assumed that he meant he hated the game. Even when the playthrough was ongoing, seeing people take absolutist interpretations of Vinny's responses to various things about the game was common enough to become the subject of mockery by both Vinny and less impulsive viewers, carrying over the "he HATES/LOVES it" meme from WebVideo/Jerma985's fanbase.
** ''VideoGame/Cyberpunk2077'': His [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LgeHxuS6cL4 first ever video]] for the game was a silent montage of GoodBadBugs and WreakingHavok moments. Subsequently, he spends several minutes in the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wxUbgFJX-Yo first proper stream]] of the game explaining that he was just screwing around and intentionally finding glitches. Despite Vinny's total silence in the montage, people thought he was jumping on the game's hate bandwagon, leading him to have to repeatedly clarify his intentions on-stream after the video was uploaded.

** ''VideoGame/{{Undertale}}'' is especially controversial to the Vinesauce viewership, though more-so the streams of the game than it itself. Many people complained and tried to backseat Joel when he went through the game in 2015, which created a huge rip between how people thought he was supposed to play. While this is not a situation unique to Vinesauce, it did have lasting effects on the channel, including Joel instating new rules to avoid a fiasco similar to it in the future. While it's almost unanimously agreed that the backseating went way too far, there are arguments to whom was to blame, the chat or the actual ''Undertale'' fanbase. Another factor that makes it controversial is how Vinny goes about avoiding the game, for example, how sarcastic and dramatic he was at the reveal of ''Undertale'' for UsefulNotes/NintendoSwitch. Some say he's justified that he doesn't care about it but others argue that he doesn't need to be so in-your-face about it.
* CharacterPerceptionEvolution: Vlinny started life in 2014 as a joke Mii in ''WebVideo/VinesauceTomodachiLife'' that duplicated Vinny's Mii but included a V-shaped mouth as a nod to the UsefulNotes/Nintendo3DS' and UsefulNotes/WiiU's notoriously imperfect photo-to-Mii feature. The character quickly became an EnsembleDarkhorse in spite of his intentionally forgettable design, attracting a ton of fanart, headcanons, and elaborate EpilepticTrees which Vinny himself was initially happy to indulge including when he streamed VideoGame/{{Miitopia}}; however, Vlinny's following also attracted people who started using him as a proxy for Vinny in fan content, usually for {{shipping}} purposes, with some going so far as [[UsefulNotes/{{Otherkin}} kinning]] him. This eventually led to vocal CreatorBacklash from Vinny that led to him tightening the rules on the [[ImageBooru Vinebooru]]. Vlinny consequently remains a huge BaseBreakingCharacter among Vinesauce fans to this day, with most people choosing to ignore the character's existence to prevent the risk of flame wars.

** A heavy overlap also exists between Vinesauce fans and the game preservation community, owed largely to Vinny's use of Sunday Stream segments based around obscure and unreleased games for older systems, which helps [[ColbertBump boost their publicity]]. [=LuigiBlood=], a prominent member of the preservation scene, even worked closely with Vinny to help him set up emulation for the [[UsefulNotes/Nintendo64 64DD]] so he could show off the short-lived device's entire library on-stream.

** Joel once played a bootleg ''Mario'' game for the UsefulNotes/SegaGenesis that featured Mario screaming realistically when he dies. This was unnerving on its own, but this ended up showing up in a sample level in ''VideoGame/SuperMarioMaker'', an ''actual Nintendo-made game'', and players can make the same thing happen in their own levels.

This resulted in the character's appearance in a few fan games like a ''Half-Life'' mod simply titled ''Kill the Frog'' and the Vinesauce ''Minecraft'' mod had a dream sequence where the player is given a gun and can shoot swarms of attacking Bunji's.

* NauseaFuel: At one point Vinny attempts to bake a cinnamon roll recipe, except that it turns out he is [[LethalChef unable to follow]] some very fundamental aspects of the process. The results are [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DvSy96sGq6Y less-than-appetizing]].
