Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Ask the Tropers is for:
- • General questions about the wiki, how it works, and how to do things.
- • Reports of problems with wiki articles, or requests for help with wiki articles.
- • Reports of misbehavior or abuse by other tropers.
Ask the Tropers is not for:

Ask the Tropers:
openProblematic troper
Theon Greyjoy doesn't understand how text formatting, and example formatting and indentation work. I sent them a notifier earlier, but I've seen only marginal improvement (in that they can now properly create a pothole).
I know they're new here, but they're a serial tweaker and they have already made several edits to multiple pages.
openEdit War in YMMV.FateGrandOrder
SpectralTime and VoidShiki19 have been pedantic over whether the changes to artwork in the game's global version is "censorship" or an "alteration".
The latter's account does seem purely made with the intent of complaining about changes made to the global version as their edits are solely contained to that page just to mark the artwork change as "censorship" and to edit a Memetic Mutation entry complaining about how the translation allegedly entirely rewrote a character, but it's still an Edit War so bringing it up here.
openWriting about creators with same name?
This is a question about the Creator namespace and Names The Same .
I have Sandbox.Sarah Lysander about the British fashion model, intended for the Creator namespace when it's in a suitable state, but I also want to write about her namesake who pre-dated her and wrote a few Web Original websites. The other one's mentioned at Names The Same in the real life section.
Since you can't have two pages the same name in any namespace, how do you write pages about individuals with the same name in a namespace?
openWord Replacement Plugin
I was looking up the edit history of Unfortunate Implications and noticed a recent edit made by Whitecroc. I think they have a text plugin on, since the word "millennial" was changed to "snake person" and "tween" was changed to "neonate". Both of these changes were unrelated to their main edit, and I'm pretty sure it's because they didn't turn their plugin off.
I checked their edit history, but couldn't find anything in their recent edits that showed a plugin changing the text of an article, but I may have missed something.
openSafe to delete?
Websites.Xyag looks like a website is being listed and has no value as a work, creator, or Useful Notes page. Should we delete this?
open Baldr Sky Videogame
I would like to recreate the Baldr Sky page (still locked because of P5), since it was released on Steam this december with an all-age edition of sorts, which removes all explicit sexual content: https://sekaiproject.com/blogs/news/baldr-sky-changes
Edited by ItasioopenSuspicious Edits
Troper Movieand T Vgoer 123 has several suspicious edits. Their edit to Barry S 2 E 8 Chapter Eight Berkman Block is simply a link to pic, that I haven't yet clicked and that is all there is on the trope page. They have added some suspicious MRA talking points to YMMV.Black Christmas 2019. And finally they deleted a moderator warning on YMMV.The Rise Of Skywalker.
Edited by jjjj2openNon-example in Fake Food? Film
This exaple is listed on Fake Food:
- On the first Harry Potter movie, Chris Columbus insisted on using all real food for the Great Hall. This did not go well, as they had to replace food whenever it spoiled, essentially forcing them to churn out the Hogwarts feast over and over again. In subsequent films, much of the Great Hall food was cast out of resin.
- Subverted in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, where the cast was told that the candy, including the Mexican sugar skulls, was lacquer-coated, when it actually wasn't, in order to stop them from eating it between shots and causing continuity errors.
- While this was kept for the Hogwarts feast, in the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince film, there was at least one instance of one of the Slug Club events (the small party for the inner circle) where the food (namely chocolate cake) was revealed and was replaced with every take.
Fake Food is a Trope, not a Trivia Trope, and since this example is not describing a trope used in the fiction of Harry Potter, but a gimmick of the filming process, it should be cut away, right?
open Can't Take Compliments
Is there a trope for this? Someone who just can't accept any sort of compliment no matter how deserved it is. I don't think it is quite Heroic Self-Deprecation since that implies that they feel they are inherently worthless. It's just not being able to take a compliment by either deflecting credit elsewhere when they are fully responsible for the achievement or trying to downplay it. Basically just thinking they're not as great as they really are.
It would be more of a direct inversion to Can't Take Criticism. Instead of not being able to accept any form of criticism, they can't accept any form of compliment.
openStrange trend of bathroom tropes shoehorned into Doctor Who?
Or at least, I think it's shoehorning. I asked on Is This an Example?, but nobody answered it and now there's a bunch of other comments on that thread, neither of which are replies.
I'll copy-paste the Is This an Example? post: On Doctor Who, it says that the Doctor does a Potty Dance while behind the ATM in "The Runaway Bride" and that the Tenth Doctor has several examples of Potty Emergency. I'm a Whovian and I've seen all Tenth Doctor episodes, including "The Runaway Bride", and I don't recall any instance of either of those tropes. It also says that he attempted Nature Tinkling in "Planet of the Dead", which I also do not recall.
openElia Kazan: Overshadowed by Controversey?
Would Elia Kazan count as Overshadowed by Controversy? Even after his death, his role in HUAC is something that is still mentioned (and usually not in a positive light)
How should one deal with this trope anyway? The problem is what was once notorious in the past can be obscure trivia the next generation (ex: apparently, according to someone on Quora, the youth of Bhopal are not aware of the Bhopal Gas Leak.)
open Wrong-placed message
I got a "you're not looking at ads" message on the Following page, which doesn't have ads (I get ads as normal on regular pages).
openTearJerker misuse
buckyb keeps using TearJerker.RWBY for episode summaries, character reactions, and speculative troping. He automatically adds new episodes as soon as they're released to the public but his entries are always scene summaries or speculative troping instead of an audience reaction. Edit reasons explaining the problem don't seem to have worked, and I can't edit any further without causing an edit war. I've tried sending a PM, but that's been ignored as well.
Edited by WyldchyldopenA place to review new articles?
Hiya there. Is there a place where I can ask for other tropers to review a new article posted here? For example, I create an article for this comic series or this short story, and I want someone to give me constructive criticism on how it's written.
I want this just to make sure the article is informative enough and avoids Zero Context Examples.
openZombie Holocaust Film
I wish to add a link to Zombie Holocaust on the Film S To Z page.
openRelated Question
Just curious: Wouldn't Overt Operative be related to Highly-Visible Ninja, since both professions largely rely on secrecy? Yet, both tropes are about so-called "covert" operatives acting openly instead.
Edited by MiinUopenFinal Smash Webcomic Webcomic
Article Link: Final Smash!
Troper Orange Kyle 91 apparently has "blanked" the page at the request of the comic author (saying there is proof the creator requested removal of the page which breaks "The Fic May Be Yours, But The Page Is Ours" rule).
I have reverted the blanking and PM'd the troper about the rule and this Ask the Tropers thread, but I figured I should note this occurrence here for the future.
EDIT - Oh I forgot to mention, the comic author apparently has cancelled the comic, but mirrors do exist elsewhere I believe.
Edited by Ngamer01
Dr Peace deleted a "Values Dissonnace" entry in YMMV/Tales of Graces with a harsh edit reason. I sent the standard "deleting YMMV" PM. I got a response PM back saying that entry was drivel and used a strawman to justify the reason.
The deleted entry stated that it was odd from a Western perspective that a leading researcher would decide to retire to become a housewife as soon as she got engaged to another man. The character is a minor NPC that helps the party in the main quest. I don't remember if the sidequest happened in the main story or the post story, but I do not agree with deleting the entry. The NPC works for a Russia-like country that continuously has energy problems and possible food shortages, and the people are starving and cold. The whole world was close to dying because the Big Bad was stealing all the world's energy.
How do these YMMV deletions get solved? Like I said earlier, I'd rather keep the entry but it's unclear what is considered "factually correct."
