That sounds terribly nonspecific. What are these supposed "expies" in other Disney films of the same period?

(Also, isn't the character named Gurgi?)

Megan is listed in YMMV.Drake And Josh. I'm pretty sure she fails the Character Focus requirement considering iirc she doesn't steal much screen time from the main duo.

Semi-related, but she's also said to be The Scrappy for being a Creator's Pet. I don't think it works like that since the former is required to be the latter in the first place.

[up] Megan is The Scrappy because she's a Karma Houdini, though I'm not even sure if she's a Scrappy given how often people quote her and such, so it might be a Love to Hate situation; I think she might be a Base-Breaking Character if anything. Either way, not a Creator's Pet.

I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.

Indeed, at best she is a Base-Breaking Character Karma Houdini, but she is genuinely funny.

YMMV.Monster Hunter

  • Creator's Pet:
    • Glavenus was accused of being this by fans who were upset because it was featured on Generations's boxart while the other three flagship monsters were left out. This has died down since Capcom revealed that there would be four alternate game covers, one for each monster (and the Prowlers), though reignited when it was revealed that the Glavenus is the final story quest in Generations, the only one of the Fated Four to have a Deviant prior to Generations Ultimate, has what some consider a second Deviant in Rustrazor Ceanataur, and is the only one of the Fated Four featured in Stories, in World, and in the 15th anniversary artwork. As of Rise, there have been efforts to curb this by instead featuring Mizutsune before any of the other Fated Four (if they come back as well). Dosen't mention anything about being hated by the fans, nor if the creators like them.
    • The Fatalis trio tends to be this to some fans. The dragons are often hyped as being the strongest creatures in existence as well as being the perfect enemy for mankind, and Capcom tends to go on their way to remind everyone how awesome they are (for instance, their ecology has them destroying an entire kingdom on their own) despite the fact many players find that they don't live up to all the hype they receive. Their increased prominence during the 15th anniversary celebration note  exacerbated this perception. There dosen't seem to be a feeling of hatred towards these monsters to qualify. Also, "to some fans"
    • While it remains a popular monster overall, Zinogre is considered to be an example of how shilling a Breakout Character can go poorly; the wyvern has received backlash from fans for being shoehorned into many different spinoffs, gaining multiple variants, and being hyped up by Capcom whenever it makes another appearance even though many players are getting tired of its frequent appearances. Some have even called for Zinogre to be retired just so other monsters can have a chance at the spotlight. Others were bothered that until World, the only Fanged Wyverns in the series were Zinogre and its five variants. It admits that it's still a popular monster. Easy cut.

None of these seem to meet all four criteria.

Purged this from YMMV.Tangled The Series:

  • Creator's Pet: Cassandra is often accused of being one in the fandom by people who dislike her, partly because showrunner Chris Sonnenburg has always spoken fondly of her and what she brings to the series, and partly because she ticks the boxes of several negative tropes associated with original characters in fanfiction. She's a newcomer in an established cast of characters who's given more focus and development than some of the other franchise veterans. She's given a tragic backstory late in the game that reveals she was the offspring of the franchise's main villain all along, giving her even greater narrative importance. She crosses over to the dark side herself for self-serving reasons; throughout the final season, her former friends try their best to save her at every turn despite her escalating abuse towards them; and she's ultimately forgiven pretty easily for all her wrongdoings by the series' end - despite the fact that she endangers the lives of Rapunzel and her friends several times, devastates Corona with the black rocks and unleashes Zhan Tiri. Fans of Varian also accuse the show of having a Double Standard due to the fact Rapunzel refused to give up on Cassandra, but allowed Varian to go to jail for similar offences at the end of season 1, despite the fact he had more sympathetic motives for his misdeeds.
    • Cassandra is a Base-Breaking Character who has a lot of passionate, sympathetic fans of her own, so the argument about whether or not she was given special treatment from the writers can be a pretty sore topic in the fandom. It can also be argued that many issues with her villain arc (such as her weak motives and rushed redemption) stem from the fact that Cassadra's perspective is mostly left underdeveloped.
Yep, "a Base-Breaking Character who has a lot of passionate, sympathetic fans."

Bringing up the following example from Jason Aarons Avengers:

  • Creator's Pet: The Avengers 1000000 BC are not liked by many fans, and it doesn't help that Aaron loves to interrupt the ongoing plots to devote an issue to them, or to blatantly shoehorn them into the current stories (and considering that we are talking about characters from the ice age, yes, you have to stretch things to great lengths to do that).

[up] Hmm, this one is not too bad as far as examples go. It mentions that they're disliked by fans, yet still get shoehorned into many scenes. It could do a better job at explaining the Creator's Favorite and Character Shilling bits, though.

A lot of the examples on CreatorsPet.Western Animation don't fill all the criteria. Like at most, they only fill 2 of them.

  • Family Guy: Brian Griffin. During the shows run, Seth MacFarlane has admitted that his intentions were for Brian to be the show's most popular character, while Meg would be the least popular, but to his complete surprise, Stewie became the show's breakout star, while Brian became the show's scrappy. The crew seems often desperate to make Brian more popular, at one point even killing him off then bringing him back just three episodes later, which fans would've been happy to hear, until they realized that these Family Guy episodes took six months to produce. They started to give Brian more noticeable flaws in the later seasons to prevent further backlash.
  • The Fairly OddParents!:
    • Denzel Crocker and Timmy's dad became this starting in Season 7. Butch Hartman himself has admitted that they're his favorite characters and he thinks they tend to be used as the main source of humor in the series. It came to a head in Season 9, where you'd be forgiven for thinking you were watching a Spin-Off called "The Mr. Crocker and Timmy's Dad Show".
    • Mrs. Crocker, Denzel Crocker's mother, has become a minor one. Most fans see her as a plain, boring, and obnoxious old lady, with nothing interesting about her character other than being related to Denzel—yet starting with Season 7, the writers seemed to get it into their heads that, along with Denzel and Timmy's dad, she is one of the most entertaining and hilarious characters on the show and that viewers couldn't get enough of her.
  • The Lemmings from Norm of the North seem to have gained this status in the sequel, since there's a scene where Norm tells the Lemmings they can't come to New York this time, seemingly writing them out of the movie, only for them to force themselves on board anyway. They then proceed to do what made them so hated to begin with.
  • Donny from The Powerpuff Girls (2016). He is abhorred by the older Powerpuff Girls fanbase for more traditional reasons, but mostly due to the misinterpretation that he was meant to be a metaphor for trans people. His debut episode is, however, one of the most infamous episodes in the reboot because, if interpreted as a transgender metaphor, its message is negative at best. Unfortunately, the creators didn't notice this backlash in time. They had expected him to be a hit amongst the fans, likely because he's a unicorn (which didn't happen because the show was Screwed by the Network and not very popular amongst kids), and as a result he reappears in several episodes, including season 2 episodes (which were made right after season 1 and thus before the backlash). He's even featured on a DVD for the series named "The Last Donnycorn" (which is also the name of an episode).
  • The Loud House: There are a strong gathering of fans who dislike Flip for being an obnoxious Jerkass. However, by Season 4, he went on to have more focus than any other background character on the show. It only grew in Season 5 when he started to appear in every episode, making it seem more you're watching a spin-off called The Adventures Of Flip!
  • South Park has practically become "The Randy Marsh Show" in recent seasons. Starting from Season 22 and onward, Randy and Tegridy Farms have become the main focus of South Park, essentially turning the four original main characters Stan, Kyle, Cartman, and Kenny into supporting characters and reducing their screen time. Trey Parker and Matt Stone have stated that they don't feel as connected to the boys now that they're older. Fans are divided on the Tegridy Farms storyline. While some fans embrace Randy as the main lead and enjoy Tegridy Farms, others highly dislike it because they view it as lazy and repetitive writing due to them dragging out the story arc for so long, and claim that Randy is progressively derailing his character each proceeding episode.

[up]Not sure about some of those, but I think the example of Donny from Powerpuff Girls 2016 has been repeatedly brought up here as an obvious shoehorn, as the example openly admits that the production timeline shows that his appearances after the backlash were preplanned and not an attempt to keep pushing him in spite of it.

I have a question. A Creator's Pet has to be The Scrappy right? I remember reading that somewhere. So does this entry from YMMV.Victorious count:

Now I have heard this complaint about both of them, but neither is The Scrappy. They are Base-Breaking Characters though. Is that enough to let them count as this trope?

Yeah, Base-Breaking Character works better. The thing is, a lot of the moments where Tori is supposed to be a Creator's Pet come at the expense of Jade, and visa versa. There are still fans arguing that the other character was unfairly favored by the writers in some way.

Unless of course, you ship Jori. And sometimes even then.

Which is why I am asking. As they are both already listed under Base-Breaking Character. It's just they aren't Scrappies, and I thought they kind of needed to be to count as this.

YMMV.Frigid Winds And Burning Hearts

  • Creator's Pet:
    • Despite being the antagonist, Captain Braveheart becomes this in later chapters, as the author has defended his callous behavior in his notes and dedicated Chapter 8 to trying to change the audience's perception of him (it didn't).
      • The Author "defends" Braveheart by not only calling Braveheart a hypocrite, but also describing him as a bully who insults and picks on others to feel better about himself. It would seem the author doesn't understand that these aren't sympathetic traits.
      • Braveheart has been given the better part of Chapter 8 as an effort to paint him as less than a total monster, with his squad mates coming to stop him from getting arrested.
      • Pinkie's only role in the story so far seems to be to provide a main character that doesn't completely hate him.
      • Chapters 11 and 12 have retconned Braveheart into a wise, merciful, and insightful leader who refrains from the use of excessive force, cares for the well-being of civilians, and respects the rights of the accused. He now also rejects the concept of revenge – the most notable change, as it was his primary motivation.
      • Chapter 13 is dedicated entirely to Braveheart's glorious battle against the dragon Ajax. The rest of the characters watch from the sidelines, alternating between marveling at his courage and skill, and being wracked with guilt due to the negative feelings they harbor towards him. He wields Celestia's own sword, being one of the few mortals ever to live capable of controlling its power. The Element of Loyalty around Dash's neck glows in reaction to him. The dragon eventually flees, but not before Braveheart has been mortally wounded. As he lies dying, all present gather around to eulogize his greatness and to reflect upon their own evils (which is to say, the things that have been blamed on them throughout the story). The pinnacle of it all comes when Applejack apologizes for wronging him. Despite the author's claim that he didn't intend Braveheart's death to be heroic, it's pretty hard to call it anything but a hero's send-off.
      • Celestia doesn't care in the slightest when Philomena dies. She doesn't hesitate to kill Ajax, whom she raised from an egg, and only mourns him briefly afterwards. Finding out that Braveheart is gone is finally more than she can bear.
    • Big Macintosh is clearly the author's favorite canon character, with Chapter 3 effectively being a session of praise and worship for him. It verges on Ho Yay Perverse Sexual Lust at points.

This is basically just complaining. I think neither of these characters qualify, as I doubt the people who wrote these entries have a high opinion of the fic itself.

Found this entry on YMMV.The Cleveland Show:

  • Creator's Pet: Donna seems capable of getting away with significantly more things than other characters are. Most notable examples include treating her husband like shit to the point of nearly killing him and not learning a damn thing over it, being angry that he's sad that someone he spent nearly 15 years of his life with died, and going out of her way to emotionally abuse Rallo, complete with song on one occasion. It's kind of amazing Cleveland is willing to deal with her, but she still tends to be important to any given plot 80% of the time.

I don't know if this is legit or not, but it doesn't seem like it due to the whiny tone of the entry. I brought this here instead of the complaining thread because I wasn't sure if it was misuse. Is it?

YMMV.Peanuts

  • Creator's Pet:
    • Rerun, who usurped control over the strip in the last five or six years at the expense of every character not named Lucy, Charlie Brown, or Snoopy.
    • Spike, Snoopy's older brother, also fits the bill, particularly during his heyday in the '80s.

Rerun only really meets the Character Focus requirement, he doesn't meet any of the other ones, including The Scrappy.

Spike might count, since reading the pages, he seems to fit 3 of the requirements (Schulz liked Spike, he got Character Focus, and he's hated). I'm curious if there was any Character Shilling for him in the strip to seal the deal.

Is this an example since neither characters are consistanly hated (e.g. The Scrappy), the example doesn't mention any Character Shilling, and since they're the main characters of the book they can't have excess Character Focus?
