The Paranoiac's description seems super bloated even with the folder in the middle. I feel the three extra paragraphs can be chopped and/or moved to an analysis tab.

I feel like Flynning is a bit too long, and that some of it could be cut or moved to an Analysis page.

Somebody added "types/spectrum" to Sensitive Guy and Manly Man and Tomboy and Girly Girl seemingly without discussion.

My question: Is that addition okay? (If you guys think it's okay then I rest my case)

I'm not really fond of internal subtropes in the first place, but at the very least this should've gone through a discussion.

Numbered type labels like that are deprecated these days, as they tend to lead to confusing and context-light entries about how "[Character] is a Type 1 with a side of Type 2, until Character Development turns them into a Type 3...."

I also find their proposed splits highly specious, with no real meaningful bright-line distinctions between them.

I am all in favor of reverting these changes.

Why does Sibling Team's description put emphasis on the siblings being biological siblings? Why wouldn't adopted siblings or foster siblings count too?

I was reading Don't Fear the Reaper and at one point it goes on female pronouns even though the trope isn't gender specific. Can i change it to gender neutral pronouns?

What are Clerk and Shopkeeper? Their titles don't show how they're tropes instead of just jobs that are Chairs...

And Clerk has only like 20 wicks...

Not sure if this the right board but the description of Preppy Name feels too long and goes into way too much detail for each country's use which would be more suited for an analysis page. I wouldn't know how to contract all this info into a short form.

#2566: Oct 26th 2019 at 5:01:06 PM

[up] - I remember saying somewhere that I think that it's too Country-Specific and we need all that info to make good judgements, unfortunately.

And maybe we just folderize by Country and Time Period...

Or we just stick to examples where the name is called out as Preppy, In-Universe.

The description for Character Overlap is literally two sentences long - and the first sentence is just describing a regular crossover.

Tropers/Miss_Desperado Thanks to you I found out this thread. In fact, I was working on a new description of Fork Fencing based as well on Fork You. I just "put them together" more than any, but I think it should be good. Opinions?

"A fight to the death... this spoon shall be our only weapon!"
Nine the Phantom, BlazBlue: Central Fiction

Among the many kinds of Improbable Weapon User, the Weapon Of Choice for someone who devotes their life to food may be the tools everyone uses to eat with.

A character who uses a common eating utensil - like a fork, a table knife, or even a spoon - to fight off their enemies may be the mark of a Supreme Chef who's been pushed a little too far, or a Lethal Chef who is as lethal outside of the kitchen as they are inside of it. It may as well be part of the fighting style of the Chef of Iron, whose armaments may also include various cutlery, the Frying Pan of Doom and even food itself. Alternately, if chaos breaks out at the dinner table, a diner may have to get creative with what they have on hand, turning their utensils into an Improvised Weapon.

Normally played for laughs (especially if there's Sword Sparks), but if the chips are down, things can get pretty ugly: this can lead to sickeningly devastating effect in the hands of someone skilled/determined enough.

While forks have certainly been used as a Blade On A Stick - Wikipedia has an article on military forks - this trope is about characters who use dinner forks, butter knives, and the like as personal weaponry.

Subtrope of Improvised Weapon. Compare Frying Pan of Doom, which is about cookware being used as a weapon. Might occur in a Fight for the Last Bite.

Race Film uses the redlink, Race Record...

Wikipedia on Race Record

We have no pages about anything like Race Record? Nor even the more general Race Music?

Cut the redlink, or make a TLP?

Poirot Speak's description never got fixed; it still skips over describing what the trope actually is. Is it OK to go ahead with the suggestion of adding an expanded version of the Laconic (forgot which page this was on, and who suggested it), and wouldn't it be best to put the addition above the other parts, since it's more relevant than the Trope Namer, the trope being Truth in Television, and the list of related tropes?

Edit: Found the post that brought it up. The first reply suggested using a rewritten version of the Laconic as a base. I'm going to go ahead and make the changes.

Edit: I made the change. Feel free to tweak it further if I missed anything or made any mistakes.

I just realized a couple of things about Schedule Slip.

First, the description is almost exclusively about webcomics, but it gets used for all mediums.

Second, and more importantly, the description and laconic are also exclusively about persistent delays, particularly in ongoing works (like weekly-updated webcomics), but it gets listed for basically every time a work has ever been delayed, even if it only happened once. The former feels noteworthy, the latter, not so much.

[up]I agree with your point about Schedule Slip's webcomic focus. It seems to mostly forget about other works after saying "...but it happens a lot with webcomics", to the point of being essay-like with the webcomic focus.

I've poked fun at my tendency to suggest transplanting portions of long descriptions to Analysis subpages on TRS (even if Schedule Slip's description doesn't have much of a length problem, so much as a focus problem, due to having three consecutive paragraphs about webcomics, compared to brief coverage of everything else), but this heavy focus on a single medium really sounds like Analysis subpage material. The Examples Are Not General section of How to Write an Example seems to support this (the part about blanket statements about multiple works, not the part about below-the-line stuff).

As for one-off delays, I agree that those aren't really worth noting.

A God Am I counts both "thinking he's a god" and "thinking he can be a god". However, the description doesn't properly reflect that yet.

What do you guys think? I'm preparing a sandbox.
