Video Game / Friday Night Crunchin'

Go To

Friday Night Crunchin is a mod for Friday Night Funkin' that started based on the Cereal Guy meme. As development continued, however, it's become a surprisingly lore-filled celebration of classic internet culture, with the main plot revolving around various Rage Comics characters and internet folklore.

You can download the mod here.

  • Absurd Phobia: Boyfriend (more specifically, Roach Boyfriend, his counterpart in the story mode songs) is afraid of spoons. Cereal Guy can't help but laugh once he finds out.
  • A God Am I: Even if it's ambiguous he still does this claim, I AM GODs name says it all.
  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: The Trollface in the comics is a smug prankster with no angst to speak of. This mod's version of him, meanwhile, has gone into a deep depression after being separated from his friends in a war and witnessing another one having just died.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: While it does end up working out in the end, Boyfriend isn't normally tactless enough to see a depressed man in an alleyway and yell at him for not being funny.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy:
    • Cereal Guy is normally skeptical of what someone is going to do in the original meme format, however in this mod he is happy to accept Boyfriend's rap battle offer.
    • Trollface isn't generally shown to have friends in Rage Comics, just opting to mock and prank people for his own amusement. This one, however, is much nicer and is shown to be close friends with Cereal Guy and Forever Alone, even going to the former's grave to mourn.
  • Ambiguously Evil: Despite being undeniably crazy, it's difficult to determine if Trolljak is intentionally harmful or simply unaware of his own power. In "Alert," he destroys an entire city with a single energy blast, but Word of God refers to it as a mere sneeze, leaving us to wonder if it was deliberate or accidental.
  • Ambiguous Innocence: Trolljak is kept in IFunny Hell, not as a prisoner, but as to keep him from effortlessly turning the sky into an eternal night.
  • Assimilation Backfire: Idi attempts to upload Boyfriend's brain to its computer for entering Purgatory while alive - and actually manages to control him for a while - but it's soon disconnected once I AM GOD comes into the picture due to Idi being too preoccupied to notice his intrusion.
  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: Ifu is a smiley face that's several hundred feet in diameter. Poopmadness outdoes her handily by being an enormous, hooded figure with an immeasurably long, serpentine body that coils around his shaks like christmas tinsil.
  • Bubbly Waitress / The Pollyanna: Epic Face is one, always smiling all the time, and even described her very first song battle as "awesome" (except for one moment, when she hallucinates Roach speaking English, which may mean she has schizophrenia).
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Poopmadness is the true ruler of IFunny Hell and way stronger than Ifu, who has already been confirmed via Word of God to be able to take on the likes of Expunged, but he doesn't really do anything productive with this power, preferring to just work on building his 'shaks'.
  • Dem Bones: The Helletons, who appropriately appear in the Halloween Episode "Rattled" fit this bill, being reanimated skeletons imprisoned in IFunny Hell, and wanting out to wage war on the mortal realm.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: One of Idi's distractions is an Epic Face with a ponytail, whose week wasn't out at the time "Rumor" was released. Same applies to the Illuminati, also appearing as a distraction.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: With help from BF, Trollface is able to get ahold of himself and reunite with his best friend, Forever Alone.
  • Face of a Thug: With how massive she is and the amount of horrifying faces she makes, one wouldn't immediately assume that Ifu is actually a pretty nice being outside of her job.
    • Poopmadness is a similar case. Despite being a country-spanning elongated abomination with a glowing mouth, enough power to take out Ifu, and offputting demeanor, he just wants to build his shaks and have fun like anyone else.
  • Facial Horror: Halfway into "Alert", Trolljak releases a massive blast of energy, leaving his face obliterated, jaw torn off, and organs spilling from what's left of his head. And despite all this, he keeps singing.
  • Fluffy the Terrible: The almighty ruler of this universe's Hell and quite possibly the second strongest character to appear in an FNF mod... is named Poopmadness.
  • Foreshadowing: "Rumor" isn't a very fitting name for a song against the You Are An Idiot malware, as its existence is widely known and not a mystery. It is, however, much more fitting for the 'I AM GOD' hoax, which the second half is based on.]
  • Greater-Scope Villain: The Illuminati is, fittingly enough, set up as the main villain of the main story, acting from behind the scenes.
  • Halloween Episode: "Rattled", witch focuses on Ifu singing against the Helletons, a gang of skeletons rioting against IFunny Hell, wanting to escape and engage in war in the mortal world.
  • "I Am" Song: "Threat" is this for Poopmadness, quite literally. Though its a generally tense track worthy of the name including several screams in its track... Most of them are comedic, including Yoda's death scream from the Lego Star Wars games to indicate that while he is a freak, he isn't a particularly hostile one.
    MOTHERFUCKER. I, AM, POOPMADNESS.
  • Insistent Terminology: According to Word of God, the buildings Poopmadness likes to create aren't shacks; they're 'shaks'.
  • Interface Spoiler: Subverted; the timer in "Rumor" starts at a mere 2 and a half minutes but is extended once You Are An Idiot assimilates Boyfriend to the full 6 minutes.
  • Killed Off for Real: Turns out to be the case for Cereal Guy, as in Trollface's week, he's died from choking on his cereal after the events of "Choke-A-Lot". This may also be the case for Forever Alone, as one of Idi's distractions shows Trollface saluting to his grave.
  • Luminescent Blush: Epic Face does this while taking a picture with Cereal Guy in the pause menu at the very end of "Last Course." It may also count as a Crush Blush, as Cereal Guy does too. Nevertheless, it's really cute. The fact that Word of God said that they are actually an Official Couple helps.
  • Marathon Level: Legacy at 5 minutes and 16 seconds, Alert at 5 minutes and 42 seconds, and Rumor in a case of subverting Interface Spoiler, Rumor, which seems to be 2 and a half minutes but is actually 6 minutes.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • Cereal Guy's right pose in the original version of Choke-A-Lot is the same face as the Yolo Guy.
      • Additionally, his Spit Take before the second part of the song is the same one that appears in the Cereal Guy meme template.
    • The thing that manages to get Trollface out of his funk is using a magnet to perpetually lift an umbrella and allow himself to fly while holding onto it, which comes straight from the classic "Troll Physics" comics.
    • During Idi's breakdown halfway into "Rumor", snippets of audio from the original song that accompanied the malware become a prominent part of the music.
    • Speaking of "Rumour", the poses Idi make during the first part of its attempt to assimilate Boyfriend are based on this song based on the website.
    • When I AM GOD enters in Rumour, it’s entrance is in the exact order of the original image’s formation, which was forehead, chin, eyes, the mouth, with it even being tilted right, and the nose.
  • Nightmare Face:
    • Ifu makes quite a lot of unsettling smiles when singing in Legacy. Her up pose, most notably, has her show off several Nested Mouths and a forked tongue that reconnects at the ends.
    • I AM GOD is a rather intimidating fragmented blood-red face that towers over Boyfriend. His imitation of Boyfriend beforehand is also noteworthy, looking more like a skull than a proper face.
    • After Trolljak destroys his own face in Alert, he's left singing with half of his head torn off, organs spilling from the flayed remains.
  • The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything: Poopmadness is the god of IFunny Hell, but he doesn't do anything with his power that'd make you think so, instead preferring to build shaks. Thus, Ifu was able to take the helm and act as a warden.
  • Precision F-Strike: "MOTHERFUCKER. I, AM, POOPMADNESS."
  • Promoted to Playable: Trollface in Reunion, and Ifu in Rattled.
  • Shapeshifter Swan Song: When Idi begins to assimilate Boyfriend, it has a virtual meltdown and cycles through various different forms in each of its poses. It eventually settles on a shadowy mockery of Boyfriend's face, even using his voice and forcing you to sing for it.
  • Superpowered Evil Side: Losing in "Reunion" implies The Trollge is this to Trollface. This is alluded to in Trollface's freeplay section as well, as Trollface seems to be trying to figure out what keeps Trollge under control, such as substituting the oil floats on water trick for a magnet on top of an umbrella.
  • Take That!: Thanks to how shallow the moderation is, IFunny is depicted as what is pretty much Hell. It also acts as The Alcatraz for the internet, made to contain the most dangerous memes like Trolljak.
  • The Assimilator: Idi attempts to assimilate Boyfriend, but ultimately only gets a Near-Villain Victory when Boyfriend is able to break free thanks to I AM GOD's hijack.
  • Villainous Rescue: Idi attempts to assimilate Boyfriend, but it's interrupted by I AM GOD hijacking into it while it's distracted so he can have a go at Boyfriend.
  • Villains Out Shopping: Ifu, the warden of this universe's Hell, can be seen sitting in the lounge in the background of Week 3 watching the song battle going down.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifter: Ifu can morph her appearance as she pleases. While normally appearing as a sphere, she gives herself a humanoid body in Week 3 and Rattled.
  • Word-Salad Horror: Poopmadness speaks in broken, misspelled English, turning what is typically "random for its own sake" humor into something far more unsettling when paired with his physical appearance to reflect the deranged mindset of the memes he represents.
