The funny afro man himself.

"That was the perfect mix of elegance and awkwardness."
James, Season 18, Episode 156

afroclod is an ongoing series set in Real Life following the life of the eponymous British character, (often shortened to afro) as he makes his way through school, uni and life, trying to improve on his various creative skills and absent social skills as he goes.

The show was created in collaboration between two creators from a small Scottish studio, and a large Ghanaian production company. The show takes inspiration for its themes and music from both cultures, as well as its setting, England.

afroclod has led to a couple of spin-offs, including Tiny Virtual Avatar Adventures, a Denser and Wackier webseries featuring expies of several of the characters from the original series, and Medic Pics, a webcomic adapting the events of Season 18 onwards relating to the Medical School plotline.

     Tropes featured in afroclod
  • Aborted Arc: The GCSE storyline, which was dropped in order to tie into the Covid-19 Crisis Crossover.

  • Achievement Test of Destiny: A staple of the series. The GCSE exams (before the writers scrapped that storyline), A-Levels, UCAT, BMAT, and Medical School Exams, to list the important ones.

  • Afro Asskicker: Subverted. This man is not kicking anyone's butt.

  • Alcohol-Induced Idiocy: Averted with afroclod himself, but part of the reason he stays sober is to remember when this trope is invoked in others.

  • Ambiguously Brown: Being mixed does that for you.

  • Author Avatar: A favourite trope of afroclod himself. Possibly to an unhealthy degree.

  • Art Evolution: In-Universe. afroclod's art has visibly improved over time.

  • Beach Episode: Several, especially as of Season 18, but due to the nature of the main character, several of the associated tropes are averted.

  • British Brevity: Averted. Over 18 long seasons and hopefully many more to come. He's still British, unfortunately.

  • Bilingual Bonus: Speakers of twi will understand several of the phrases spoken by afroclod's Ghanaian family, even if he himself doesn't.

  • Cast Full of Gay: A trope present even before the ace storyline.

  • Celeb Crush: The fact the show averts this is discussed by the characters in the local Wetherspoons.

  • Celibate Hero: afroclod was originally mistaken for this, before it was revealed he was actually just asexual.

  • City of Adventure: The city afroclod moved to, upon the beginning of the Medical School storyline.

  • Character Development: He was once insanely bad at talking to people. He's now just kinda bad at it and not really that insecure anymore. Yippee!

  • Chekhov's Gunman: One of afroclod's friends in Season 18 actually appeared briefly in Season 13 during one of the Bible Camp arcs.

  • Christmas Episode: There's been one every season without fail, usually with a lot of buildup and guest appearances.

  • Coming-Out Story: Starting from Season 17 onwards, usually with a positive ending. Usually.

  • Funny Afro: A staple of afroclod's character design. While the name existed before then, the signature 'fro first appeared in it's current form after the timeskip following Season 15.

  • Fun with Acronyms: Being in medical school, this trope exists in abundance. Take IGETSMASHED for the symptoms of acute pancreatitis and CABG (pronounced cabbage) for Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting for example. This is only expected to appear more as the show progresses.

  • Gay Aesop: An aroace one to be exact, starting with Season 17.

  • Green Hill Zone: The arcs set in the Scottish Highlands and the Lake District feature these.

  • Jesus Was Way Cool: In afroclod's opinion.

  • I'm a Doctor, Not a Placeholder: afroclod loves quoting this trope, and will only do so more once he actually does become one.

  • Imaginary Friend: One appeared in the early seasons called Robert. He returned briefly in Season 9, as a jedi for some reason.

  • Magical Negro: afroclod likes to think he's this. He's not.

  • Magical Queer: afroclod likes to think being ace has made him this. It hasn't.

  • Oop North: A vast majority of the show takes place here.

  • The Promised Land: afroclod visits the Trope Namer at the end of Season 17.

  • Running into the Window: Happens in Season 18, only made funnier by the fact afroclod was one of the only sober people in that episode.

  • Tournament Arc: The Rowing Competitions during Season 14.

  • Time Skip: There's functionally one at the end of Season 15, after the Covid-19 Crisis Crossover. All the characters returned to the show taller, with new designs and costumes.

  • Title Drop: The title finally appears as a username for afroclod's Nintendo Switch account in Season 13.

  • Token Minority: Mixed black? Aroace? In fact, he's a...

  • Twofer Token Minority: So he's usually the token something in most episodes, regardless of which other characters appear.

  • Trademark Favourite Food: Raisins. He was even gifted 96 packets of them in Season 17's Birthday Episode.

  • You Have Researched Breathing: Played as straight as possible. He quite literally researches breathing.
