Shaming the Mob in Fan Works.

Crossovers
  • Destiny's Divide: When a council meeting devolves into squabbling between the representatives of Altas and Vacuo, Yang stands up and calls out Winter for trying to defend Ironwood after everything he's done, while also ripping into Theodore for taking cheap potshots at the former general. This transitions into a Rousing Speech about how Salem wants them to squabble and fight each other rather than uniting against their common foe, and that it's time to start proving that she shouldn't underestimate them.
  • Going Native: After Tarble declares that he's annexed Earth and added it to his empire, some people blame the Justice League for not stopping him. Tarble calls them out on their ingratitude, pointing out how the League had selflessly saved and protected them for so long.
  • A New World, A New Way: When Hastings gathers a group of trainers to try and arrest Gene and Abby for their "crimes" on Earth, Abby asks if they're really willing to separate her from her eggs for five years.
  • Shinji and Warhammer40k has resident Badass Preacher Makoto breaking up a riot with words while revving a chainsword to get their attention. One minute, the rioters are willing to kill each other; the next, they are kneeling and lamenting that they are the world's biggest assholes.

Family Guy

  • Family Guy Fanon has a more "Shaming the Crowd" example, but when Adam West gets the voters riled with merely a smile and point during the mayor debate night in "Do and Die", Lois lays down a massive rant at them for them supporting him simply for being a celebrity:
Lois: You know what? Screw my speech! What the hell is wrong with you people?! What kind of speech is... (she does the shooting gesture Adam did earlier)? We just got done dealing with a mayor that got arrested for committing racketeering behind our backs, and we should be more focused than ever to vote for the right person for office! A person that can rebuild Quahog and make it safer, more law filled and less prone for crime because the criminals can loophole their way out of an arrest. And yet, despite having the chance to, you're gonna let some Batman celebrity run our town?! What has he shown to be worthy of running a town? (a hand from the audience raises up) And superficial looks don't count! Give me one good reason you all want to make Adam West our mayor! (There's a long beat as nobody has an answer and Lois puts a hand to her right ear) What's that? No answer? Well, that's what I thought! You don't want him in office because he shows a promising future for Quahog. You want him to be mayor because he's Adam West, and "Oh my God, having Batman as our mayor would be cool!" without actually thinking about what he'll do. The truth is you're all being lied to by a man who's only ability is to use his vast vocabulary to give an illusion as to what he knows what he's doing, when it's clear from his stupid rules and laws he wants to put in motion if he wins that he has NO GODDAMN IDEA WHAT HE'S DOING! This man you want to vote into the mayor office is the same man that a day prior I saw running around Quahog in a Batman costume. If there's any person that should be right for the job as mayor, it's me. Vote for me!

Futurama

  • Blame It on the Brain: Nibbler combines this with Rousing Speech when convincing the other Nibblonians to drop their plan of destroying the Planet Express ship and allying with the Brainspawn against Onespawn, reaming them out for even considering such an action.

Harry Potter

  • In Harry Potter and the Stitch in Time Harry comes across a mob of merfolk about to stone Gabrielle during the Second Task. When they protest that he has no idea what the Veela have done to their people, he replies that he does know that Gabrielle is too young to have committed any such offenses, then asks if he should persecute their children in return for their attempted violence. Several members leave before one throws a stone at Harry, who threatens him with the silver javelin curse. He and the rest of the mob then leave.

How to Train Your Dragon

  • The Blacksmith's Apprentice:
    • When Hiccup is forced to fight Thuggory for the right to marry Astrid, most of Berk cheers for the latter to win. When Astrid starts cheering for Hiccup instead, they abruptly realize that they've been rooting against their own representative.
    • Later, Mildew managed to rally a crowd of people to protest against Hiccup being reinstated as heir, but the mob distinctly lost their enthusiasm about supporting Mildew when he stated that they wanted Snotlout back.
  • What Lies Beneath: When the village accuses Hiccup of not contributing to the village and calls Zephyr "as pathetic as her father" when Astrid's yelling accidentally upsets her, Astrid gives a scathing "The Reason You Suck" Speech right back.
"You ungrateful jerks! Hiccup forges the best weapons on Berk! He is not useless. So what if he decided to play a different role? Why should he want to lead you lot of degenerate boneheads anyway?"
Some of the Berkians looked scandalized, others slightly ashamed, some slightly confused by the big words.
"How dare you insult my daughter? A three-year-old, little girl? Of course she isn't going to flourish, not when she is treated the way she is. You can't judge her before she's even had the chance to show what she has to offer. You're doing the same thing to her that you did to Hiccup. Don't try to deny it. I know that deep down you all know. Hiccup is the way he is because of us! He put up a bunch of walls and hides himself away, because he never received a kind word from anyone. I am so grateful that Zephyr has Hiccup because he will never allow her to feel the way he does. And so help me, if you drive my daughter to the same depths of despair as my husband... I will come for your unworthy, pathetic souls and hand them over to the ruler of Helheim himself!"

Kim Possible

  • Alone, Together: A group of Paparazzi catch Kim and Shego kissing in the last chapter. As cameras flash and questions fly, it looks as though it's a coin toss as to whether Kim will have a public breakdown before or after Shego fires upon the Media Scrum. Thankfully, Ron comes in and shames the mob of reporters into backing off.

Kirby

  • Kirby Of The Stars The After Story: During Kirby's Dream Land 2, Cappy Village is destroyed. In the aftermath, the villagers start hurling blame at each other. Bun calls them out on it before things descend into violence:
Bun: Look at yourselves! Look at what you've become! Haven't we all gone through much worse than this? ...Well, okay, I admit this is pretty much as bad as it gets when accounting for property damage, but nobody got hurt! Are all of you so upset over losing some... stuff, that you're willing to change that?

Marvel Universe

  • Pound the Table: St. John Allerdyce, a 16-year-old boy, was mugged by four grown men, manages to drive them away... and is charged with assault due to being a mutant. After the Kangaroo Court is concluded, Steve Rogers reveals himself to the crowd gathered outside the courtroom and delivers a scathing "The Reason You Suck" Speech comparing their Fantastic Racism to the very Nazis he fought against. The arrival of Magneto to break the kid out, with Rogers standing by and allowing him to do so just drives his point home.

Miraculous Ladybug

  • An Act of Protection: After a battle, a mob of reporters cuts Ladybug and Chat Noir off from making an exit. In order to protect Chat Noir, Ladybug pushes him into a closet and stands guard, sacrificing her own Secret Identity in the process. When he emerges, Chat Noir calls out the mob in a Tranquil Fury:
Chat Noir: How dare you? We’ve dedicated our lives to protecting this city from Hawkmoth and you repay us by not even giving us the courtesy of keeping our civilian lives to ourselves? Why didn't you let us leave? You know we value our privacy. It's called a secret identity for a reason. It's there to protect our friends, family, and ourselves. You've just given Hawkmoth an advantage over Ladybug. Those she knows in her private life could potentially become targets.
    • This has little impact; a few of the reporters apologize, claiming they never intended for this to happen, but the majority continue badgering the pair with questions, only grudgingly leaving the building when ordered.
  • Attempted in Back To Us. The mob in question are essentially an Akuma hate group, who have come to believe that Akumatised victims should be met with lethal force rather than Ladybug purifying the butterflies. After Ladybug narrowly prevents the latest victim from committing suicide, she climbs on top of a news van, grabs a megaphone, and delivers the following speech (much of it directed at Chat Noir, whose own increasingly ruthless attitude is responsible for the mob's creation).
Ladybug: Citizens of Paris. Today, I am forced to say something I have never had the cause to say ever since becoming Paris’ hero: I’m disappointed in you. Just a minute ago, a woman’s life almost ended, because she was dreading this exact reaction from you. Tell me, Paris — when did this behavior become acceptable? Standing here before you now, I’m ashamed to be a citizen of Paris myself — ashamed to be your hero! Who in their right mind would want to defend a city that’s so determined to destroy itself from the inside out? When did you lose your heart, Paris? How could you act so thoughtlessly? How could you have become so cruel? (glances up at Chat on a nearby rooftop) This madness has to end. The akumatized victims have no more control over their emotions than any other citizen of Paris. To blame them for being taken advantage of is to blame them for daring to be upset, which is ridiculous. No one can control their emotions like that. And before you say something ridiculous, like they had the darkness inside them all along or something, think: how would you feel if it was someone you loved? A relative you adore? Your best friend? …What if you’re next? Is this how you want to be saved? Coming back to yourself, confused, scared...surrounded by angry people who have no idea what they’re talking about? I’m trying. I’m doing everything I can. But I’ll say it: I’m scared, too. Scared of what this new enemy means, of the damage he’s causing...and what we’ve become as a result. I’m scared, but I know that this is not right. Things shouldn’t be like this. I’ll always be here to protect Paris...but just because I can do it alone doesn’t mean that I want to. The only way I can keep going...is to know that you’re on my side. I need your support. I...I need you. Please, please don’t make me do this alone anymore. Come back.
(She watches as Chat turns and leaves. When she looks back to the mob, she notes that at least some of them have been affected by her loss of composure.)
We can be better than this, Paris, and we will be. I’m going to get to the bottom of this, and I’m going to stop this second Hawk Moth...but I can only do that if I know that Hawk Moth’s victims will not be harassed for something they had no control over. I don’t judge or blame any of the victims, and neither should you. Please, let’s bring back the Paris that I love. The Paris that I’m proud to protect. Let’s be better together, Paris.
  • Marinette Dupain-Cheng's Spite Playlist: After Adrien and Chloé interview Ladybug, giving the superheroine a chance to say her piece about recent events, Lila leads the class in confronting them. Adrien asks the class whether or not they miss Marinette at all after how they drove her away, or just miss all the things she used to do for them. While it doesn't work on everyone, several start thinking about the situation more critically rather than blindly following Lila.
  • Miraculous Ladybug Salt-Shots: In Reflection, Ladybug is being hounded by Nadja and a crowd of fans, who keep pestering her with questions about her personal life and rumored "relationship" with Chat Noir. Ladybug points out that they have no idea who she is behind the mask — she could even be somebody they know, like a friend, coworker, or family member. She then asks them how they'd feel if somebody they cared about was being pressured to hook up with somebody they didn't like that way, causing the reporter and the crowd to fall silent.
Ladybug: You'd be disgusted, right? Angry, even. You just don't understand why people keep shipping her with someone that they don't like. Why people keep pushing them to be a couple when the feelings are clearly one-sided. Even when she says no. (with a sickly sweet smile) But it's fine. It doesn't matter that we don't know the ages of either hero. Since one is clearly interested in the other, they're meant to be. Right? If I was your mother, anyone close to you, and you knew my identity — would you continue to ship us? Even if I have a relationship of my own. Would you still ship us and tell me to get together with him even when I don't want to date him and see him strictly as a partner?

My Hero Academia

  • Failure to Explode: When Tetsutetsu and several of the Gen Ed students start harassing Class 1-A, accusing them of benefitting from the USJ Incident, Izuku and Monoma call them out on their Skewed Priorities. It wasn't "free publicity", it was villains assaulting the faculty — villains who would have been more than happy to kill anyone they could. They're lucky to be alive, yet Tetsutetsu and the rest want to act like they were lucky to be attacked?
  • Haigha: Izuku shuts down Tetsutetsu and the other non 1-A students heckling his classmates over the media attention they've received in the wake of the USJ Attack by declaring that he almost lost his arm while dealing with the League's attempts to kill everyone there. This causes the mob to fall silent, with Tetsutetsu regretting his choice of words.

My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic

  • In It Takes a Village, Trixie confronts and calls out the anti-dragon rioters on their treatment of Spike. Halfway through, it morphs into her berating herself for how she's treated Huffy.
  • Life in Manehattan: After Tangerine realizes that her efforts to be an assertive hall monitor turned her into a bully, she tries to apologize to the rest of the student body. At first, her words fall on deaf ears, with the other students mocking and belittling her. Then her friends step up and point out that many of her critics wanted to be hall monitors themselves, precisely because they wanted to take advantage of that power and authority to do whatever they pleased, so none of them have any right to judge her.
  • Luna The Match Maker: When Julian, Big Mac, Braeburn, Caramel, and Soarin' attempt to force their way into the castle in Canterlot, Scootaloo confronts and calls them out on their behavior.
  • The Nuptialverse : When Trixie is captured in Direction, an angry mob of Ponyville citizens tries to lynch her for the crimes committed while under the influence of the Alicorn Amulet. Rarity, however, puts herself between them, and asks the mob if any of them think that this is what Twilight (who's currently dealing with this universe's version of Equestria Girls) would want. This gets the crowd to stop and think, and then they all slowly leave.
  • A Voice Among the Strangers: Applejack calls out the citizens of Ponyville for automatically assuming the worst about Jessica, reminding them of how they mistreated Zecora as well. She steps in again in Baltimare, while Twilight intervenes to protect Jessica when she's leaving the hospital, trying to convince everyone that Jessica is more afraid of them than they are of her.

Naruto

  • The Echo Remains, But The Song Is Not The Same: After witnessing just how badly most of Konohagakure's residents treat Naruto, even when he's trying to help complete D-Ranks they requested, Shikamaru starts calling them out on their crap. Unfortunately, this fails, in no small part because the Sandaime refuses to do anything about the abuse. Instead, Shikamaru gets into trouble, creating a vicious cycle where he gets nastier and sharper-tongued in his efforts to defend Naruto since nobody else is helping, turning the worst villagers against Team Seven to the point that they stop submitting D-Ranks until they can be reassured that Team Seven won't take them.
  • The Uzumaki Tales: Return Of The Whirlpool: When she catches a mob chasing Naruto around, Hinata calls them out on their excessively cruel treatment of him. It takes a few others hopping into to help her kick their backsides for the shaming to really stick, though.

RWBY

  • Raise: As Jaune's ability to bring others Back from the Dead becomes widely known, villagers start swarming his family home, demanding that he use his powers to bring back all of their loved ones. Nicholas and Tommen call them out for not only terrifying an innocent family, but trampling a woman to death. Sadly, this makes no difference to the Entitled Bastards; as far as they're concerned, death has just become cheap, and Jaune is obligated to help them out.

A Song of Ice and Fire

  • In Robb Returns, Lords Bracken and Blackwood do this to a crowd at Raventree Hall who are following a septon to burn down a weirwood tree inside, challenging them to listen to the Call and stand together like they have.
  • Winter in the Winds: When met with Produce Pelting, the Sand Snakes take it in stride. Obara even grabs a loaf of bread that'd been lobbed at her and starts eating it, laughing.

Soul Eater

  • Breaking Point: When Maka attempts to protect Chrona from an angry mob who want to drive them out of Shibusen in this fashion, she winds up taking a rock to the head.

Touhou Project

  • The Cookie☆ fan movie Marisa and Alice's Self Contradiction☆ already acts as a scathing satire of the Cookie☆ community on Nico Nico Seiga, but in the climax it has the protagonist interrupt her live recording session to go on a tirade: first against the part of the community who only joined for clout and chasing fame, then to the fandom fundamentalists who won't let any new blood into the scene and chases off users, and then finally to the crowd who just gawks and jeers at the chaos, accusing them of never making anything original and blaming their need for constant fanart consumption for the low quality of the Seiga tag. She gets her account "freezed" for this.
