Beast King GoLion has been referenced by the following.

Anime

  • Voltron:
    • When the Voltron Force forms Voltron and shouts, "Let's go, Voltron!" or "Let's go, Voltron Force!", they're actually matching the GoLion Team shout of "Let's GoLion!"
    • Keith's name might be a reference to how he's nicknamed "Chief (Chifu)" in GoLion.
    • Although it's retroactive, Keith is named "Keith Akira Kogane" and Hunk is named "Tsuyoshi Garrett" in comics and sequels of Voltron (Lion Force), which reference the original names of their counterparts in GoLion.
    • Raible (referencing The Bible) is renamed Coran (referencing The Qur'an) in Voltron, thus somewhat preserving the reference.

Series — Live Action

  • Dengeki Sentai Changeman: Prince Icarus is possibly an Expy of Prince Sincline. They are both monstrous humanoid Conquering Alien Princes that fall in love with one the main heroines (Sayaka and Fala, respectively) and want to make her their wife.
  • Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger:
    • The witch Honerva can be considered a prototypical Bandora (or even Rita Repulsa).
    • Grifforzor can be considered an Expy of Commander Sadak mixed with King Daibazaal (both ended up "becoming" Robeasts) while Burai the DragonRanger can be considered the Expy of "Prince Sincline".
    • The retrieval sequence of the Guardian Beasts that make up Daizyuzin/Daizyujin is reminiscent of the thematic placement of the different robot lions across Altea. For example, the Tyrannosaurus mech emerges from underground magma just like the Red Lion, the Sabertooth Tiger runs across a forest like the Green Lion, and so forth.
    • Like with GoLion and its lions, Daizyuzin also requires special keys to activate the individual component beasts. However, instead of a key, they come in the form of multicolored crystals coinciding with the color of the ranger holding them.
    • GoLion can be considered the anime equivalent of Daizyujin because they're both sentient mechanical beast gods that can separate into individual animal parts that form a humanoid colossus with a sword-based Finishing Move.
    • Ironically, they're also both famous outside of Japan for their western adaptations.
  • Voltes V: Legacy: The show referenced GoLion by mentioning Gliese as one of the planets that Emperor Zu Zambojil intends to occupy (the others being Baam, Tau Cetis, Cephir, and Helios).

Western Animation

  • Voltron: The Third Dimension: The exploration of the idea that the Voltron Lions are sentient (which was only touched upon in Lion Force Voltron) is a shout-out to GoLion and its origin storynote .
  • Transformers: Animated: The Transformers: Animated - AllSpark Almanac II features is a map of the Milky Way Galaxy. One territory is referred to as Galran Khanganete, a reference to the Galra Empire from GoLion. Within the Khanganete are the planets Doom (Galra) and Arus (Altea).
  • Voltron: Legendary Defender:
    • The Sven counterpart reverting back to the "Shiro" name in this continuity is a reference to his GoLion counterpart's original name of "Shirogane". Ditto with him dying somehow like in Beast King GoLion and surviving somehow like in Voltron: Defender of the Universe.
    • Pidge becoming a girl in this continuity is a reference to her GoLion counterpart being voiced by the Son Goku, Masako Nozawa.
    • Krolia attempts to name her child Yurak, which is a shout-out to Sendak's Voltron name. Meanwhile, the name Sendak is itself a reference to the character's GoLion name of Commander Sadak.
    • Haggar ending up as the beautiful "Honerva" is both a shout-out to Haggar's GoLion name and the Voltron continuity combining the Goddess of the Universe with Honerva to create Haggar's backstory.
    • The Sincline ships that Lotor and his generals fly and could combine into the Sincline Mech are named after Lotor's GoLion name of Prince Sincline.
    • Legendary Defender's Galra Empire references Planet Galra of GoLion, except this time their planet is named Planet Daibazaal instead (named after King Zarkon's original GoLion name).
    • Keith originally piloting the Red Lion, Lance originally piloting the Blue Lion, and Shiro (Sven) originally piloting the Black Lion so that their uniforms match their respective color lion is a shout-out to how mismatched the uniforms of Kogane, Kurogane, and Shirogane (as well as Princess Fala later on) were to their piloted lions.Ditto in later episodes after Shiro dies, where Keith pilots the Black Lion and Lance pilots the Red Lion while still retaining their original uniforms like in GoLion.

Video Games

  • Super Robot Wars: This series ended up making an appearance in the Super Robot Wars, in the first DS game, and it did away with the plot point that Earth was destroyed by World War III, so the GoLion Team gets to fight in the still blue and bountiful Earth before more than just Galra Empire would attempt ruin it. Unlike most other adaptations, they kept Shirogane's death intact, though modifies the scenario that he still gets on GoLion for one last blaze of glory before Fala replaces him.
