My Girlfriend Gives Me Goosebumps! (Henai Heartbeat) is a manga written and illustrated by Shunsuke Iino, which began serialization in Shonen Jump+ in May 2023 and ended in January 2024.

After surviving falling off a balcony as a child, Haruka Kawatsuji developed a fascination for hearing his own heart beating and tried to recreate the feeling he experienced during the fall, without success. This changes after he ends in the same class as Kisaki Tokano by “coincidence” and they both volunteer to serve as library helpers by “coincidence”. After school, Haruka is warned that he has become the target of Kisaki’s obsession by Rinko, her former target, and that he should stay away from her.

Rather than heeding the warning, Haruka decides to ask Kisaki to become his girlfriend, persuaded that she can make his desire a reality.

Tropes present in the work:

  • Aloof Dark-Haired Girl: Kisaki has dark hair and is noted to be hard to approach. A classmate from middle school calls her “the smart, solitary beauty”.
  • Always Second Best: Kisaki is both smart and athletic, and is overall skilled at everything. However, her sister Airi is better than her in almost every field. It's the source of Kisaki's obsession with being someone's number one.
  • Belligerent Sexual Tension: Invoked. Haruka doesn’t just want to be the person Kisaki loves the most, he also wants to be the one she hates the most, to amplify her yandere tendencies.
  • Catapult Nightmare: Chapter 4 starts with Haruka having a nightmare of Kisaki killing him, only jolt awake in shock... and then he finds Kisaki right next to him.
  • Creepy Blue Eyes: Kisaki has blue eyes and she is a Stalker with a Crush obsessed with becoming her target "number one".
  • Deliberate Injury Gambit: During the dodgeball match, Kisaki deliberately gets injured by letting the ball hit her fingers, just to have Haruka serve her something to eat later. Her only regret is not injuring her right hand, since he would have to spoonfeed her.
  • Empty Eyes: Both Haruka and Kisaki are often drawn with black iris, to represent how bored (Haruka) or obsessive (Kisaki) they are. In both cases, those empty eyes are what push them to enter in a relationship with the other.
  • Evil Has a Bad Sense of Humor: Downplayed on the evil part, but after being invited to Haruka’s room, Kisaki jokes that even she couldn’t get in there before.
Haruka (thinking): Am I supposed to laugh at these stalker jokes?
  • Embarrassing Hobby: Terada, the teacher of class 1-3, is secretly a fan of a Show Within a Show aimed at young girls. He is too embarassed to buy their marchandises and has Kisaki do so in exchange for helping her to get a seat next to Haruka.
  • If I Wanted You Dead...: When Kisaki confronts Rinko two days after she warned Haruka to stay away from Kisaki, she reassures Rinko that if she was going to do “something” she would have done so the day before. But since it made Haruka confess to Kiseki, she has no reason to hurt Rinko, so she is just here to thank her.
  • I Love You Because I Can't Control You: Haruka was the first person to not be interested in Sekurako. She tried to made him fall in love with her, but ended up falling for him instead.
  • Ironic Echo: In chapter 10, when confronting a classmate that speaked negatively about Haruka online, Kisaki explains that she figured out his identity since he revealed too much online and tells him "phones are smart but you also have to be smart yourself". At the end of the chapter, Haruka tells the same words to Kisaki herself, when asking her to stop messaging him non-stop when he doesn't answer immediately. The irony makes Kisaki laugh.
  • Love at First Sight: Kisaki fell in love with Haruka the moment she saw his Empty Eyes, viewing it as the perfect chance to be his "number one".
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: Rinko warns Haruka to stay away from Kisaki. Not only this fails to deter Haruka, but Kisaki forces her to hang out again, this time to talk about Haruka, with the naration noting that her days of suffering begins once more.
  • Parental Favoritism: Downplayed. Kisaki and Airi's parents loved both of them equally, but unconsciously judged them as "number two" and "number one" respectively, since Airi was better than her in everyway. This is what caused Kisaki's obssession with being number one.
  • Spotting the Thread: When getting a call from Rinko about his relationship with Kisaki, Haruka notices that Rinko changed how she refers to Kisaki, overreacts to being called by her first name and is asking questions for the sake of someone else. He deduces that Kisaki is listening to the call.
  • Stalker with a Crush: After meeting him once and without even knowing his name, Kisaki starts stalking Haruka to discover his name, the high school he is going to and his schedule.
  • There Are No Coincidences: Kisaki ends up in the same school as Haruka by “coincidence” and also volunteers to be a library helper by “coincidence”. As explained by Rinko, those are not coincidences at all.
  • Thrill Seeker: Haruka is always looking for way to make his heart as fast as it did when he falls off the balcony as a child, be it through running or watching horror movies. The entire reason he starts dating Kisaki is because her obsessiveness makes his heart beats faster.
  • Yandere: When Kisaki becomes obsessed with someone, she is determined to be their number one. She stalks them, going as far as befriending their family members. She also becomes angry if they hang out with other people. Haruka started dating her because of this obsessiveness.
