The Pokémon World (Generation VIII)

These are the recap pages for the Pokémon anime produced loosely in connection with Pokémon Sword and Shield, with heavy influence from Pokémon GO. In Japan, it is simply known as Pocket Monsters. In the United States, the first season is known as Pokémon Journeys.

After winning the Alola League, Ash is told by Professor Oak about the Cerise Institute, a new Pokémon research laboratory in Vermillion City that seeks to aggregate knowledge of what Pokémon from all over the world. When he looks to tame a Lugia that appears in the city, he runs into Goh, a boy his age who is on a single-minded mission to locate and catch Mew after a fateful encounter earlier in his childhood. The two become friends, and are chosen as research fellows for the Cerise Institute.

When he befriends a Scorbunny in Galar, Goh finds joy in catching Pokémon.

Ash, meanwhile, discovers the World Coronation Series, a gathering of the greatest Pokémon trainers from all regions, and seeks to truly become the very best, like no one ever was.

Ash and Goh travel the world to learn as much as they can about Pokémon, each other, and themselves.

Season Twenty-Four

Season Twenty-Four: Pokémon Master Journeys: The Series (2021-2022)

On February 5, 2021, The Pokémon Company International announced that episodes 37-48 of Pokémon Journeys, which premiered on March 5, 2021, would be the last episodes of Pokémon Journeys, and the next season would carry a different name. On May 5, 2021, it was announced that the season would be called Pokémon Master Journeys. The first five episodes aired in Canada on Teletoon starting June 12. The first twelve episodes began airing in the United States on September 10. The second fifteen episodes became available in the US on January 21, 2022. The third fifteen episodes will be available in the US on May 26, 2022.

Season Twenty-Five: Pokémon Ultimate Journeys: The Series (2022-2023)

On May 11, 2022, it was announced that the third season would be called Pokémon Ultimate Journeys, with the first batch of episodes airing on Netflix starting October 21, the second batch on February 24, 2023, and the third on June 23. The first four episodes aired in Canada on May 28. In the US, a tie-in special for Pokémon Legends: Arceus aired on September 23.

The Final Journey

On December 16, 2022, it was announced that starting on January 13, 2023 in Japan, the 11 episode miniseries Pokémon: To Be a Pokémon Master aired to conclude the story of Journeys bringing an end to Ash’s run as the main protagonist of the series. It began airing in Canada on May 13, 2023. It was made available on Netflix on September 8, 2023, exactly twenty-five years after the American debut of the anime episode "Pokémon - I Choose You".^note It should be noted the English dub actually began on September 7, 1998, with the episode "Battle Aboard the St. Anne" The international airings of To Be a Pokémon Master also include the "Distant Blue Sky" special, which is based on the Pokémon: I Choose You! movie continutity.

After his victory at the World Coronation Series and parting ways with Goh, Ash begins another journey around the world. Along the way he meets up with his old friends Misty and Brock. When this short journey concludes, a question is posed to him: what does it mean to become a Pokémon Master?
