The Masters Eight Tournament continues, and Diantha faces off against Leon for the first match of the semi-finals. Meanwhile, Cynthia, Goh and Ash meet two young fans.
This episode contains examples of:
- Curb-Stomp Battle: To say Diantha got walloped would be an Understatement, since Leon utterly demolishes Diantha using mostly his Rillaboom.
- Curb Stomp Cushion: Tyrantrum somehow beats Dragapult with a Hyper Beam and Rillaboom is beaten by a Psychic from Mega Gardevoir.
- Gameplay and Story Segregation: Diantha's Tyrantrum is able to beat Leon's Dragapult with a Hyper Beam in spite of Dragapult being part Ghost-type and therefore immune to Normal-type moves.
- Genki Girl: Toria is easily excited around Pokémon and runs off to witness a Gossifleur evolve.
- Hoist by His Own Petard: Leon has his Gigantamax Charizard use G-Max Wildfire, only for Diantha's Mega Gardevoir to use Psychic to capture it and turn it back on the Fire type. Leon then turns it around to his advantage by using G-Max Airstream to disrupt Gardevoir's concentration, then unleash another G-Max Wildfire to go in for the win.
- Killer Gorilla: Leon's Rillaboom returns, and it demonstrates just how powerful it is by defeating 5 of Diantha's team.
- Meaningful Name: The two kids who Ash and Cynthia meet are named Vic and Toria, probably a reference to Queen Victoria.
- Metronomic Man Mashing: How Rillaboom falls: Gardevoir grabs the Drummer Pokémon with Psychic, lifts it up and slams it into the ground, causing it to faint from this and all the time it spent against Diantha's Pokémon.
- Riddle for the Ages: It's never said which of Leon's Pokémon beat Diantha's Hawlucha.
- The Worf Effect: Just to show how powerful Leon is, Diantha loses all 6 of her Pokémon to only half his team.
- Worf Had the Flu: Rillaboom taking down most of Diantha's team and taking a Fire Blast and Blizzard leaves the Grass-type easy prey for Gardevoir due to being exhausted.
