Ash was really getting his steps in after getting Riolu's egg.
A trip to the Pokémon Center sees Ash and Goh coming across an egg from Sinnoh under its care. After a long time of being inert, the egg begins to hatch in Ash's presence, revealing a Riolu who is ready to battle.
- Attack Hello: The first thing Riolu does after hatching is attack Ash with Vacuum Wave.
- The Bus Came Back: Ash's Aura powers return after a 12 year absence, coincidentally involving another Riolu.
- Butt-Monkey: A minor example. Just as Pikachu was about to initiate a second attack on Onix, Riolu aggressively pushes him away and faceplants him. Riolu isn't apologetic and Ash doesn't even check to see if his buddy was okay.
- Call-Back:
- Ash references his past experiences of seeing Pokémon Eggs and raising a couple of them himself (Phanpy, Larvitar, Scraggy, and Noibat) to Goh, which inspired him to see one as well.
- Goh recalls Ash's claim to have heard Lugia say something while riding on it when they first met when he brings up feeling something calling him and wonders if the latter is related to the former.
- Ash having Aura powers is once again brought to attention after being unmentioned for over 12 years.
- Curb-Stomp Battle: Riolu constantly suffers these when it tries to pick fights with various other Pokémon, even ones it would normally have a type advantage against. Justified as it is still a newborn that only just hatched, and some of these fights are against entire groups of other Pokémon instead of just one-on-one fights.
- The Force Is Strong with This One: Ash and Riolu can sense each other's Aura, especially during a Pokémon battle.
- Lame Pun Reaction: Upon catching Exeggcute, Goh calls it an "Eggcellent job". Pikachu is amused by his pun but Raboot and Ash is far from impressed.
- The Unreveal: For some reason, Ash's rank after beating Hayden goes unspecified.
