The Rocket Prize Master becomes the source of colorful antics, from unleashing a Swarm of Gulpin that makes a ball out of everything they touch to a Chewtle that finds itself in a race with other turtle-like Pokémon... with Meowth providing commentary.
- Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: Ash gets distracted when he sees a juggling Alakazam in a nearby park when he's supposed to be leading Goh and Pikachu back to Cerise Laboratory to get the Gulpins unstuck from them.
- Holding Hands: Because Goh has a Gulpin stuck to his head, Ash has to hold his hand to guide him back to the Cerise Institute.
- No Name Given: The Shell Sage is a nickname Meowth gives the old man with the shell-type Pokémon; his real name is never revealed.
- Unwitting Instigator of Doom: The Gulpin swarm all started because Jessie slaps James in her sleep, James assumes it was Meowth who did, places him on the Rocket Prize Master and then Pelipper bashes their head against the machine to get their own Pokémon.
