Fanfic / Servant And Subject

Go To

Servant and Subject is an AU fanfic of Murder Drones. In this fanfic, Nathaniel (N) is taken by Tessa to a top-secret research facility that is studying the effects of the Absolute Solver. He soon meets Subject 002, aka Uzi, who slowly radicalises him into rebelling.

Tropes appearing in Servant And Subject:

  • Abusive Parents: Same as canon with James and Louisa with the latter being more abusive than James to point of striking Tessa at one point and causing her to bleed.
  • Adaptational Heroism:
    • In the main series, N is a Disassembly Drone who has killed a uncountable number of Worker Drones while here, N didn't undergo the transformation into becoming a Disassembly Drone so he hasn't committed any crimes yet.
    • In the series, Doll would go on a killing spree and become one of the series' main villains and Uzi's Arch-Enemy. Here, she teams up with Uzi to escape JCJenson and return home.
  • Adaptational Angst Downgrade: Thanks to not having to Mercy Kill his wife, Khan is a better dad here.
  • Adaptation Name Change: N, V and J go by Nathaniel, Victoria and Jennifer in this story.
  • Adapted Out: Cyn is implied to not exist in this universe as James and Louisa are still alive. Subverted as someone by the name of "Cynthia" makes contact with Uzi in Chapter 5.
  • Armor-Piercing Response: In Chapter 2, Nathaniel reminds Uzi that Copper 9's Drones didn't revolt when the latter tries to get him to swear.
  • Asshole Victim: Uzi sees every human she kills as this.
  • Book Smart: Deconstructed. Uzi argues that she should be leader because she was top of their class at school, but struggles to come with a plan when Doll put her on the spot. Doll flat out tells her that being good at school work and good at strategic thinking are two different things.
  • Cassette Craze: The beginning of Chapter 1 is Tessa doing a log on Subject 002 and the Absolute Solver research.
  • Cliffhanger: At the end of Chapter 4, Tessa reveals that she knows about Nathaniel and Uzi's chat and declares that "they need to talk."
  • Computer Virus: One of the many tortures inflicted on Subject 002/Uzi to try and kill her.
  • Corporate Warfare: Implied due to the existence of the JCJenson private security division as mentioned below.
  • Curbstomp Battle: It's mentioned that Uzi managed to slaughter an entire black ops team from JCJenson's private security division.
  • Dark Secret: Copper 9's existence and lack of human presence is this for JCJenson as widespread knowledge would lead to people refusing to work for the company and Worker Drone rebellions.
  • Dwindling Party: It's revealed that Uzi, Doll, the Worker Drone versions of IC-52n, IC-313n and Cordie are the last of the captured Test Subjects with all the others dead.
  • Expy: Uzi and Doll's fellow test subjects are based on IC-52n and IC-313n from Internecion Cube and Cordie from Cliffside.
  • Faceless Goons: It's mentioned that Uzi was abducted by JcJenson employees that had this appearance.
  • Ground by Gears: One of the many tortures inflicted on Subject 002/Uzi.
  • Half the Man He Used to Be: One of the many tortures inflicted on Subject 002/Uzi.
  • Harmful to Minors: Uzi, Doll and countless other WD teenagers are captured and infected with the Solver by JcJenson
  • High-Voltage Death: One of the many tortures inflicted on Subject 002/Uzi.
  • It Is Dehumanising: The Worker Drones in this story are all called "It" by the humans.
  • Just Think of the Potential!: Part of Tessa's motivation in studying the Absolute Solver and experimenting on Uzi and other Subjects.
  • Kill Tally: In her chamber, Uzi has a kill count of how many people she's killed so far.
  • Kill It with Ice: One of the many tortures inflicted on Subject 002/Uzi.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: During her rant/interrogation of Nathaniel, Uzi mentions this as a possible fate for him when he completes an errand.
  • Les Collaborateurs: It's mentioned by Tessa that some Worker Drones on Copper 9 acted as spies for JcJenson in exchange for upgrades to locate the offspring of escaped Cabin Fever Test Subjects
  • Mad Scientist: James calls his daughter, Tessa this as an Affectionate Nickname. She hates it.
  • Missing Child: Uzi, Doll and the other Test Subjects count as this as they've been abducted from Copper 9.
  • Multiple Gunshot Death: One of the many tortures inflicted on Subject 002/Uzi.
  • Neck Snap: Uzi's second kill, a junior technician suffers this fate when she falls down the feeding shaft.
  • Only Sane Man: Part of the reason Doll declares herself as leader of the party is because she's the only one who can come up with a plan that isn't based on mimicking something they saw on TV.
  • Outliving Ones Off Spring: In Chapter 4, Doll reveals that almost every other Test Subject besides her and Uzi are dead, making this scenario occur for the heartbroken parents back home.
  • Patient Zero: Whatever Drone that destroyed Proxima was the first confirmed Solver-Infected Drone.
  • Purple Is Powerful: Like canon, Uzi's eye colors are purple and she possesses Absolute Solver.
  • Red Is Violent: The final door to Uzi's chamber has a red skull on it, highlighting how Subject 002/Uzi is more dangerous and violent than other subjects.
  • Skeleton Motif: The 3 doors that separate Uzi's chamber from the rest of the facility each has a skull on it.
  • Some Kind of Force Field: Uzi's chamber has a forcefield in it.
  • Space Pirates: It's mentioned that JcJenson's private security division deals with pirates and strikers.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: In the main series, Nori and Doll's parents are dead, having been killed by the Disassembly Drones but here, Nori and Doll's parents are still alive. So are James and Louisa and most of humanity.
  • Useless Security Camera: The cameras in Uzi's chamber are useless due to Uzi interfering with them. Subverted when Tessa reveals that the cameras were working the entire time.
  • Utopia: Uzi and Nathaniel see Copper 9 as this for Worker Drones.
  • Would Hurt a Child: JcJenson has no issue abducting a unknown number of teenage Worker Drones and experimenting on them.
  • War for Fun and Profit: It's implied that JcJenson starts wars through it's private security division.
  • Weakened by the Light: Uzi's and the other drones are weakened by sunlight.
  • Wine Is Classy: In Chapter 1, Nathaniel offers Tessa 20-year old wine from Europa.
  • You Are Number 6: Uzi and Doll are dubbed Subjects 002 and 048, like their mothers were. Presumably, the other Test Subjects share the name number as their parents did.
