Fanfic / Demigods Witches and Doors

Go To

Demigods Witches and Doors is a Massive Multiplayer Crossover with a primary focus on The Owl House and The Camp Half-Blood Series, as well as the other stories set in the same universe, the other "Rick Riordan Presents" books, Gravity Falls, and Amphibia. In it Luz, in this story a demigod daughter of Hermes, ends up in the Boiling Isles... but under her own power, at the same time that her half-brother Luke is extending his forces' reach into that realm as well...

This fanfic contains examples of:

  • Adaptational Early Appearance: Chapter 3, which is basically the second episode, has Luz meet Gus and Willow. Additional scenes also have the Blight siblings debut, though they are not met by Luz (properly in the case of the twins, who are mentioned to briefly meet Luz during her shopping).
    • Triumvirate Holdings is referenced early on as showing an interest in Luz, several years before their first mention, as the story starts right before the Sea of Monsters book.
  • Adaptation Expansion: The incidents of class skipping the Blight twins got involved in is given more context: they apparently frequently leave illusion duplicates in class to take notes the way Gus did and Amity caught on. The practice is a unspoken element of the Illusions track, which adds to Amity's frustrations because she is bad at catching these sort of unspoken expectations.
  • Adaptation Species Change:
    • Luz in canon is, by all accounts so far, a normal human. Here she's a demigod daughter of Hermes.
    • While Word of God declared that Anne Boonchoy is still human, it is implied that both Sasha and Marcy are demigods, though their parentage was not specified.
  • Adapted Out: Adeghast does not appear in what would be the events of episode 2, an absence that Luz all but lampshades when nothing happened.
  • Batter Up!: Lucera's weapon is a Celestial Bronze baseball bat painted red. She likes to use it for batting cages, and she figures that since the Mist makes demigod swords look like bats most of the time anyway, she might as well give it a break.
  • Both Order and Chaos are Dangerous: Lampshaded by Luz when Eda is talking about the Order Versus Chaos of the House of Life's magic vs. the magic of the Isles, pointing out that neither is nearly good or evil and you need both or you get problems.
  • Cast from Hit Points: Unlike Witch Magic which is firmly limited to a Witch's bile sack reserves, the magic of Magicians can cast from life force if you use up your inherent energy.
  • Combo Platter Powers: Luz has/will have three distinct powers in story.
    • As a daughter of Hermes Luz's powers revolve mostly around crossing into other worlds via doors and the ability to pack virtually anything into her bag without a storage spell like a Magician would use. While she is subconsciously a master of the latter, the former is something she barely has any comprehension over and is what keeps her in the Boiling Isles.
    • She accidentally discovers how to use Egyptian Magic during the jailbreak. While very potent it is also Wrong Context Magic to the Boiling Isles and very easily damages anything it affects and she has to be careful with how much she uses or she may burn her own life force.
    • Finally it is confirmed she'll still learn the glyph magic she does in canon, which will be used as a more stable and safe alternative to Egyptian Magic where warranted.
  • Decomposite Character: Luz's "Beta" design is split off into a separate half-blood sibling of hers named Lucera. Similarly, Beta Amity is now Amity's older sister Amelia.
  • Dimensional Traveler: As a daughter of Hermes, god of boundaries and travel, Luz can open portals to other realms of reality like the Boiling Isles, Musphelheim, and Niflheim. She, however, doesn't have the expertise to properly aim her abilities, so after Hermes points her in the direction of the Boiling Isles she can't figure out how to travel back to Earth.
  • Entropy and Chaos Magic: The magic of the Boiling Isles is explicitly aligned with Chaos/Isfet in contrast of the Ma'at/Order-based magic the House of Life uses in The Kane Chronicles, with the users of one feeling pain when exposed to the other, though it's made clear that this in no way makes the Boiling Isles witches evil for using it. When Lucera snags a Construction Coven Power Glyph from Luke during their fight and uses it, it releases a burst of chaotic energy that fries Lucera's hat and causes some weeds to grow wildly, some shoots blooming and others withering.
  • Gendered Outfit: Because Luz meets Willow and Gus early, she initially assumes their uniforms are gender colored with Willow's pinkish Abomination outfit and Gus's blue Illusions outfit.
  • Head-in-the-Sand Management: Apparently Zeus is watching Suspicion Island instead of actively acting against Kronos and Bill Cipher.
  • Massive Multiplayer Crossover: Besides The Owl House and the Riordanverse series (primarily The Camp Half-Blood Series and The Kane Chronicles currently), and some other Disney shows like Amphibia and Gravity Falls, the various "Rick Riordan Presents" novels are also canon to this universe (save for the futuristic Dragon Pearl).
  • Mutual Disadvantage: The Order Versus Chaos nature of the magic the House of Life uses and the magic the inhabitants of the Boiling Isles uses, respectively, means that just being exposed to the other's brand of magic hurts the user of the opposing magic. Eda described the binding ribbons that the House of Life used on her feeling like a brand, for example.
  • Order Versus Chaos: How the magic the Egyptian magicians of the House of Life use contrasts with the magic of the Boiling Isles, respectively. Luz even drops the Trope name when Eda is talking about this to her, having had trouble understanding it when at the House of Life because they kept using technical terminology like "Ma'at", which flew over her head.
  • Parental Substitute: Amelia is this to Amity, as the Blight parents are the Blight parents.
  • Shout-Out:
    • The title seemingly references The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.
    • Naturally there are several Harry Potter references.
    • When trying to use magic against Warden Wrath's goons, one of the words Luz uses is Brisingr. Another is the 'flog you into frogs' line Jiraiya used in Naruto.
    • One of the Hermes cabin's orders is for the newest two My Hero Academia volumes. There's also references to Star Wars and Star Trek.
    • A Laistrygonian Giant is described as doing poses straight out of Dragon Ball while trying to power up using a Construction Coven Power Glyph.
    • Chiron once used a bat'leth in a weapons demonstration. Similarly there's a story that Star Trek stuff spontaneously combusts upon entering the Apollo Cabin. It's rumored that Apollo saw T.O.S, most likely Star Trek S2 E2 "Who Mourns for Adonais?" where he is a villain defeated by Kirk.
  • Take That!:
    • Lucera is not a fan of fans of manga series that use their original Japanese names even after being translated, like people who call My Hero Academia "Boku No Academia". She's very much dub instead of sub.
