Atlantic Federation: Squad E ( Tank Commanders | Scouts | Shocktroopers | Lancers | Engineers | Snipers | Grenadiers ) | Federation Navy
East Europan Imperial Alliance: X-0

Engineers in general

  • The Engineer: Of course.
  • Fragile Speedster: Like Scouts, Engineers have low effective HP and wear light armor, but they also have the highest Dodge stat out of all classes. That also means enemy Engies will be more likely to dodge your shots as well, though.
  • The Medic: Engineers carry large Ragnaid cans that restore more HP a pop compared to the small capsules the other infantry classes have. If used on downed teammates, an Engineer's Ragnaid can revive them without having to call for medivac. In a less strictly technical way, they are the only "medics" capable of healing Tanks, done via using the Engineer Tools on a friendly vehicle.
  • Stuff Blowing Up: Unlike Scouts, they can have multiple grenades on them at all times, allowing a single Engineer to use up to three of them in the same phase. Also unlike Scouts however, they don't gain access to the Grenade Launcher attachment for their rifles and can only toss them manually.
  • Support Party Member: Engineers play many important roles. They are the only ones capable of removing mines, even ones they themselves have stepped on, and can resupply an ally at will without having to rely on Potentials. They are also capable of deploying ladders to enable the squad to traverse certain areas with ease, as well as restoring knocked down sandbags covers.

    Aulard Abington

Aulard Abington

Voiced by: Toshiya Chiba (JP)
Rank: Private
Age: 28
Likes: Jascha Alatt, Dan Bentley

  • Ambiguously Brown: His skin tone is dark, perhaps owing to heritage or his lifestyle.
  • Badasses Wear Bandanas: Wears a camo one around his head.
  • The Engineer: Moreso than other soldiers in his class; owing to his fixation with tanks, he's described as possibly being the best repairman in Squad E.
  • Fanboy: Of Dan due to his skill as a tank driver, complete with "Dan Lover" potential.
  • Grease Monkey: To say Aulard really likes to tinker around with tanks would be a major Understatement. He is so knowledgeable about them, in fact, that he single-handedly revived his entire family's business with just his mechanical expertise alone after the war ended.
  • Hero-Worshipper: For Dan's nigh legendary skills as a tank pilot.
  • Military Maverick: His Squad Story revolves around his lack of discipline, as he has recieved a number of complaints by fellow squadmates for his habit of breaking formation in order to sneak a closer look at enemy tanks.
  • Otaku: He's a big one for tanks. So much that his perk gives him a defensive boost just being near them, regardless if it's allied or enemy tanks. It's also because of this love of tanks during his Squad Story that he helps fix the Hafen.
  • The Thing That Would Not Leave: Dan is not exactly enthused about having him sneak around the Cactus during maintenance hours, at least at first.

    Rebecca Longhurst

Rebecca Longhurst

Voiced by: Yuka Komatsu (JP), Tara Sands (EN)
Rank: Private
Age: 24
Likes: Mabel Drake; Fleuret Valois (after squad story)

  • Ambiguously Brown: Rebecca has a noticeably darker skin tone than most of the characters.
  • Broken Bird: She is described as being much more cheerful and caring back in her earlier days. In present days, not so much. She gets closer to her former self after you deal with her Squad Story.
  • Combat Medic: As an Engineer, she's supposed to be one, but the fact that she may outright refuse to use Ragnaid or be unable to take any further action when near a fallen ally make her a poor choice of one. Completing her Squad Story improves her on this front, as being near fallen allies can give her a boost, but she remains stingy with the Ragnaid.
  • Cutting Corners: She will hold onto that Ragnaid, until you really, really, reeeeally need it. Maybe.
  • Failure Knight: What her current philosophy on supporting really stems from.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: With Mabel and Fleuret after their shared Squad Story mission.
  • Gameplay and Story Segregation: Her obsessive need to conserve her limited supplies of Ragnaid would make a lot more sense if all units weren't holding an infinite amount of the stuff.
  • I Work Alone: Rebecca is notably hard to work with, due to her preferring to be left alone. She even has a potential that boosts her defenses when not around anyone.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Rebecca cares deeply about her squad mates, but her typical behavior gives just the opposite impression.
  • Minor Injury Overreaction: Was prone to acting like this in the past, throwing out Ragnaid for even minor scrapes, until the event described in My Greatest Failure.
  • My Greatest Failure: Wasting her Ragnaid in the first few minutes of a battle that lasted hours, leaving her unable to tend to more seriously injured soldiers who died as a result. It leads to her being much more stingy with Ragnaid in the present day.
  • Past Experience Nightmare: Rebecca suffers recurring nightmares about the death of her previous squad.
  • Too Awesome to Use: Towards the otherwise rather plentiful Ragnaid. Which really is an issue seeing as she is supposed to be a support.

    Rita Raywater

Rita Raywater

Voiced by: Naomi Ozora (JP)
Rank: Private
Age: 24
Likes: Dan Bentley, Millennia Hudson, Brittany Scarlett

  • Drowning My Sorrows: How she deals with her latest failed relationship during her squad story.
  • Dude Magnet: Her personnel file says she's popular with the guys in Squad E because she's stacked and always wears a tank top. Which is lampshaded by one of her potentials, when she playfully says: "Um, my eyes are up here".
  • I Don't Want to Die: Said verbatim as her last words if she dies in battle, though it's less of a fear of death than fear of dying while still single.
Rita: (tearfully) "I... I'm too young to die. I don't wanna die alone."
  • Informed Attribute: According to her personnel file, she's stacked and frequently wears a tank top, but her in-game character model is semi-flatchested like the other female charactersnote .
  • Looking for Love in All the Wrong Places: On of her potentials is titled "Single and Looking". She's obssed with finding "Mr. Right". Unfortunately all her attempts to find Mr. Right have failed.
  • My Eyes Are Up Here: The line for one of her potentials activating.
  • Single Woman Seeks Good Man: Rita describes herself as "single and ready to mingle" and has made it known that she's in the market for a potential spouse. Her mother approves because she wants grandkids.
  • The Goggles Do Nothing: She wears a pair that perpetually rest on her forehead. Even in the middle of a snowstorm.

    Eileen Blackwell

Eileen Blackwell

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/vc4_eileen_headshot_1.png
Voiced by: Shino Shimoji (Japanese)
Rank: Private
Age: 16
Likes: Curtis Blackwell, Laurent McCloud, Brittany Scarlett

  • Anger Born of Worry: Curtis is aware that his sister's overbearing nature stems from her fear for his safety, which is also the reason she joins Squad E: so she can protect him.
  • Annoying Younger Sibling: Zigzagged. She initially joins the squad to keep an eye on her brother, but her fussiness and knowing she's on the front lines are a constant cause of anxiety for him. This is reflected by Eileen's "Unreliable Brother" potential, which causes her evasion to drop sharplynote  if she loses sight of him on the field map. But the trope is subverted once the player completes the "Blackwell Down" squad story, which replaces her "Unreliable Brother" potential with "Proud Sister" which greatly increases her evasion whenever she's deployed with Curtis.
  • Big Brother Attraction: Hinted to be the case with Curtis, whom she tends to be obsessive over. She even said a number of times as a child that she wanted to marry Curtis and after the war is not pleased with his female suitors.
  • Big Brother Worship: She used to idolize Curtis. Their relationship now is much more strained. But if the player completes their shared Squad Story, she gets some of it back.
  • Broken Pedestal: She's lost most of her respect for her brother, and sees him as a mess. As of the end of their Squad Story though, it's starting to become Rebuilt Pedestal after she and Laurent realized how Curtis ultimately always keeps them grounded.
  • Childhood Friends: The Blackwell siblings have been close friends with Laurent since the time they were kids.
  • The Cutie: She's shy, soft-spoken, and noted by both Laurent and Curtis as being adorable. Further lampshaded near the end of their squad story when an Imperial soldier has Eileen in his sights, yet hesitates to fire. After being shot by Curtis, the Imperial says he didn't fire because Eileen reminded him of his own kid sister back home and urges Curtis to keep Eileen safe.
  • Innocent Flower Girl: On top of wearing flowers in her hair, after the war she and her brother together open a flower shop.
  • Recurring Element: A secret character who joins if her sibling is injured, like Emile from the first Valkyria Chronicles.
  • The Reliable One: Trusted with all matter of tasks by the rest of the squad.
  • Secret Character: Is only recruited if her brother Curtis is reduced to critical condition during combat.
