U.A High

Class 1-A

     Izuku Midoriya

Quirk: Kaleidoscope

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/image_7515.png

A boy once thought to be Quirkless, only to awaken a powerful Pyrokinetic Quirk.

  • Adaptational Badass: On the regards to having a Quirk of his own from the start.
  • Adaptational Name Change: He chooses "Beacon" as his hero name, to fit his theme of becoming the kind of hero who can extend a helping hand to those whom society has failed.
  • Playing with Fire/Technicolor Fire: In its base state, Izuku can create and manipulate multicolored fire that he uses to burn things, cause small explosions, and throws fireballs. It can also be separated into individual colors, with each one having its own unique ability.
    • Red: is more or less a burst of pure heat, reaching very high temperatures that instantly turns Izuku's normal clothes to ash when he uses it. It can get so hot that even Izuku, who's fire and heatproof, can feel it when activated.
    • White: serves as a massive boost to Izuku's intelligence, but overusing it gives him a migraine.
    • Yellow: enhances Izuku's speed in short bursts, but overuse leads to straining his heart.
    • Green: enhances Izuku's strength, but overuse leads to tearing in his muscles.
    • Pink: allows Izuku to heal injuries, both on himself and others, but at the cost of his stamina.
    • Orange: creates a shield that can deflect most everything, though sufficiently powerful attacks (like Miruko's kicks) can break through.
    • Blue: gives Izuku a connection with death and a Shinigami named Matatabi, which apparently grants him some kind of "conditional necromancy". It's the least understood of Izuku's powers, but for now, it allows him to see and speak to the ghosts of One For All and let him briefly make Nana visible to All Might.
    • Purple: is a malleable type of fire that Izuku uses to create constructs to attack or restrain his opponents with. It forms a sort of sword-and-shield combo with the orange fire.
    • Black: potentially the strongest of Izuku's fires, it shows up when Izuku is beyond enraged. It's a fire so hot that it practically vaporizes metal, and can even overcome Izuku's fireproof nature, leaving him with severe burns after using it.
  • These Hands Have Killed: His reaction to killing the Sludge Villain at the USJ.
  • Training from Hell: Inko pushes him to the absolute limits in order for him to be strong enough to get into U.A and that's BEFORE he awakens his Quirk.

     Katsuki Bakugou

Quirk: Explosion

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bakugo.png

Izuku's former childhood friend. He used to bully him for his alleged Quirklessness but most of his bad attitude stemmed from the toxic environment of their schools.

  • Beyond Redemption: Very narrowly averted. His attempt to attack Midoriya with a full powered blast from his gauntlets (with Todoroki getting caught in the crossfire) is stated in no uncertain terms to have nearly ended up being this by Inko, noting that if the building had collapsed and/or Midoriya and Todoroki had been killed by the blast, he would have been looking at either Villain Rehab at Ketsubutsu, or Tartarus. Katsuki is ashamed of what he nearly did as a result of his mental break, and vows to do better.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Katsuki is left horrified and disgusted when Inko tells him the story of a hero (Endeavor) that, for the sake of becoming Japan's #1 Hero, engaged in morally horrible actions that ultimately only caused pain and damage to everyone around him.
  • Having a Blast: His Quirk allows him to generate explosions from his hands through nitroglycerin-based sweat.
  • Heel Realization: After realizing that if he continues down the path he's going, he'll end up just like the morally reprehensible hero in Inko's story, Katsuki vows to clean up his act.
  • Unwitting Pawn: He's pretty pissed when he hears about how Aldera had been buttering him up in hopes of making him a member of the Meta Liberation Army. This, coupled with Izuku having a Quirk and the realization that all his schools were just kissing up to him causes him to go berserk during the Combat Trials.

     Minoru Mineta

Quirk: Pop Off

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mineta.png

A dwarfish boy with a lecherous streak. He befriends Izuku after being inspired by his heroism.

  • Adaptational Heroism: A mixture of Character Development and being more directly influenced by Izuku makes this version of Mineta a lot more heroic and have more moments of genuine decency. His desire to live up to people's belief that he can be more than just a pervy dwarf ends up pushing him to make a risky gambit during the Training Camp in order to save Midoriya and help the others, improving their opinion of him in ways the canon Mineta never managed to.
  • Lovable Coward: While still prone to cowardice like his canon counterpart, it's a lot easier to accept due to Kaleidoscope!Mineta actually having more of his better qualities shown throughout the story.
  • Hero Worship: He ends up developing this for Izuku, which helps him shape up to be a better person.

     Oujiro Maishirao

Quirk: Tail

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mashirao_ojiro_full_body_uniform_6.png

A boy whose Quirk grants him a large prehensile tail.

     Yuuga Aoyama

Quirk: Navel Laser

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yuga_aoyama_full_body_uniform_9.png

A glamorous boy with a flamboyant streak.

Class 1-B

     Yui Kodai

Quirk: Size

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yui_kodai_anime.png

A quiet and fairly reserved girl from Class 1-B who met Izuku by chance during the Entrance exam and ended up forming a friendship with him.

  • Ascended Extra: Gets more screentime in this fic than in canon because of her friendship with Izuku. She's the 4th member of his team during the Cavalry Battle and even makes into the third round of the Sports Festival.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Has a surprisingly snarky personality for all her quiet nature. It comes out when she's making fun of her friends, like when she lampshaded the "Sitting on the Roof to clear your head" trope to Izuku.
Izuku: [texting] How do you know I'm on the roof?
Yui: Because eating on the roof to clear your head is incredibly cliché.
    Izuku: ...Okay, ouch.
    Yui: Am I wrong?
  • Guile Hero: Is fairly tricky and creative in how she uses her quirk to win fights. In her 1-on-1 match with Yaoyorozu, she leads her opponent into thinking that she's going for her usual "enlarge sand particles and throw it at people" move, only to shrink the entire ring and force Yaoyorozu out, winning by default.
  • Sizeshifter: Her quirk allows her to shrink or grow any non-living object. She mostly uses it by carrying around sand in her pocket and enlarging the grains to use as projectiles.
  • The Quiet One: Doesn't usually speak out loud, and gives one-word answers to questions. She's more chatty over text though.

Heroes

     Inko Midoriya

Quirk: Attraction Of Small Objects

Izuku Midoriya's mother and housewife, she is secretly the retired underground pro heroine Verdant, who chose to leave the hero industry after being exposed to the worst aspects of hero society.

  • Accidental Celebrity: She becomes this after getting involved with the fight against All For One alongside All Might and Gran Torino. Because she's typically an underground hero, most people do not know anything about her, and thus her surprising power and skill, and subsequent thrashing of such a dangerous villain earns her a lot of admiration. She's less than happy about this, being a very private woman who prefers to avoid the spotlight.
  • Adaptational Badass: Inko was only a regular civilian in canon, mostly serving as a good mother and a source of tension in the story regarding Izuku's safety. Here, she's a experienced pro heroine whose initial hesitation is born from directly knowing about the seedy underbelly of hero society, and how much it can tear one apart. She's also a very skilled fighter, and able to exploit her relatively "weak" Quirk to its fullest.
  • Deadpan Snarker: She can go into this territory, especially when it comes to anything related to what Nezu's planning, or just general stupidity.
  • Heart Is an Awesome Power: Inko's quirk is described as "Attraction of small objects", something that doesn't sound very impressive on paper, but she shows how creative application makes all the difference. Not only does she pair it well with her skill in hand-to-hand combat by using surrounding debris as a distraction then getting hits in, but the definition of "small objects" itself is rather ambiguous. Case in point, she erases her husband from existence by pulling apart his atoms when he tried to murder Izuku for being quirkless, and at one point demonstrates how most internal organs can be considered small, incapacitating her opponents by pulling on their bones and causing them excruciating pain, which is how she almost took down Izuku and Bakugo when they're paired against her for their final exams. This is why she was quite a successful Underground Pro Hero before deciding to retire.
