Anguished Declarations of Love in Western Animation.

  • Cindy gets this twice in The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius, but both times she never actually gets the word out.
    • First in "The N-Men" in an attempt to calm the Hulk-esque Jimmy who just finished mopping the floor with her and the others:
Cindy: You don't deserve to have me make fun of you. You're a great guy! You're smart, and talented [...] I know I'm always mean to you, but I do it so you won't notice my real feelings. The truth is, well...I sorta, secretly...lo...lov..(Falls unconscious)
    • Then again in "The League of Villains", when the villains in question are about to kill them.
Cindy: Jimmy, I just wanted to tell you that... that I lo... lo...
Jimmy: LOVE POTION! That's it! Thanks, Cindy! [kisses her cheek and runs off]
      Cindy: ... I wasn't gonna say LOVE!
  • On American Dad!, Francine is about to be killed by the Ladybugs because She Knows Too Much, but Linda steps in and asks to say goodbye. Which she does by kissing her. The Ladybugs decide that this is decent enough counter-blackmail material to spare Francine and leave. Francine assumes that this was Linda's plan the whole time; Linda confirms that yeah, heh-heh, of course, it was...
  • In Angel's Friends: Raf to Sulfus in Episode 26. They later kiss, thus committing the sacrilege that Reina had been waiting for. This can backfire on them.
  • A family-based example is subtly implied in Avatar: The Last Airbender. During the finale when Zuko is apologizing to Iroh, he says “I don’t know how I could ever make it up to you, but I-“ before being cut off by a hug. The shape of his mouth implies that his next word was going to start with the letter “l”, heavily implying that he was going to say that he loves Iroh. Couple it together with the fact that he was begging for forgiveness for something terrible he did, and it fits this trope perfectly.
  • Bravest Warriors: In the pilot, Chris gives one to Beth in order to defeat a monster that feeds on pent-up emotions. Subverted in that she doesn't hear it over her laughter.
  • Camp Lazlo: Late into the series, Jane gets engaged to Pothole McPucker and throws a party. Lumpus sneaks in, dressed as a woman, and finally confesses his feelings. Since he's in a dress, everyone thinks it's a woman confessing her love to Pothole. Pothole's response? "Sorry, Jane, she's hot." It's all set up for a later episode where Jane's wedding falls apart, and Lumpus finally tells her then. They marry.
  • Done in Family Guy with Stewie and Brian:
Stewie: I like you lot. I guess you could say I... really like you. I would… even dare to go a little further, perhaps. I… care a great deal about you. Very great deal. Maybe even… deeper than that. I… I… I love you. I mean, you know, not in like a, "Hey, let's, you know, let's have an underpants party," or whatever grownups do when they're in love, but I mean, I mean, I love you as one loves another person whom one simply cannot do without.
  • Leela's sudden admittance of love for Fry in the face of danger and possible death in the final scene of Futurama: Into the Wild Green Yonder, after ten years of not returning his feelings and at the worst possible time. They got better.
  • Gravity Falls: In "Into The Bunker" Dipper believes Wendy was mortally wounded in a flash flood caused during a struggle with the Shape Shifter. Dipper tearfully confesses his love to what he thinks is a dying Wendy... only to realize the real Wendy was behind him, and the apparently-dead Wendy was actually the Shape Shifter. She heard his confession and the two talk it out afterward; she tells that she is quite flattered but is simply too old for him, and they agree they are Better as Friends for now.
  • Hey Arnold!: Helga gives one to Arnold in Hey Arnold! The Movie complete with a kiss. Then at the end of the movie, they both agree to pretend it didn't happen.
Helga: You heard me, pal. I love you! LOVE YOU! Who else do you think has been stalking you night and day? Building shrines to you in a closet; filling volumes of books with poems about you? I love you, Arnold! I've always loved you ever since I've laid eyes on your STUPID football head, and from that moment, and every moment since I've lived and breathed for you and dreamed of the moment when I could tell you my sacred feelings, I could grab you and kiss you and… OH COME HERE YOU BIG LUG! [kisses Arnold]
  • Home Movies: Brendon pushes himself on Cynthia a bit too much at a Battle Of The Bands competition — as she runs off, he runs onstage and, grabbing a microphone, declares in a highly embarrassing manner that he's "in LIKE" with her.
  • Spike the dragon from My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic carries a silent crush for Rarity the unicorn during 36 episodes. But at the climax of the episode "Secret of My Excess", both of them are plummeting from a mountain to their deaths, so Spike decides to finally break his silence:
Spike: Rarity? I need to tell you something! Just in case we don't make it! I—I've always sort of had a crush—
    • Rarity interrupts him by placing her hoof in his mouth, then she gives him the tenderest of smiles and starts crying. She knew. She knew all along.
  • In the finale of She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, Catra finally confesses her love to Adora. Fortunately, it's requited, and they kiss.
  • A platonic example occurs in an episode of Spongebob Squarepants where Squidward, after struggling mightily to apologize to Spongebob for pulling a cruel April Fools prank on him, is guilt-tripped by visions of other people calling him out for his callous behavior into breaking down and shouting to Spongebob about how sorry he is for hurting him and how much he really likes him and the rest of the Bikini Bottom residents he's stuck with in spite of his normal contemptuous attitude toward them.
  • Star vs. the Forces of Evil:
    • Star had seemingly decided not to act on her crush on Marco, as he was dating Jackie and she didn't want to risk their friendship. Then her mother comes in and tells Star that she has to come home because Toffee has returned and is in a vengeful mood. So Star runs down the stairs, yells for Marco loudly, and in front of the entire stunned party (including Jackie) confesses that she has a crush on him and she may be going away forever. And then she runs away crying.
    • A platonic but no less emotional case is seen when Eclipsa tries to reason with her long-lost daughter Meteora, who has gone completely insane and become a giant, soul-sucking monster.
Eclipsa: I love you! I know you haven't heard these words in a very long time, but I'm saying them again to you now. Please, Meteora, come back to me.
  • Steven Universe: A platonic version occurs in "Gem Drill" with Steven saying this to Peridot when it looks like they're going to die trying to get to the Cluster.
    Peridot: [stunned] Wow, thanks.
  • In the final episode of Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce Go!, Nova tearfully confesses her love to a Brainwashed and Crazy Sprx as he electrocutes her, begging him to fight off the control of the Fire of Hate and return to her. Her love reaches him and frees him from evil.
  • In Tiny Toon Adventures: How I Spent My Vacation, Babs attempts to give one to Buster right when it seems they're going to go over a cliff, but Buster shushes her, saying "I feel the same way."
  • A platonic variant shows up in Voltron: Legendary Defender when Keith has to fight a Brainwashed and Crazy Shiro clone. Notable in that it's one of the rare examples of a platonic Love Confession between two males.
Keith: Shiro, please... you're my brother. I love you.
