Locked Pages: Lock, UnLock and Edit requests

Go To

This thread is for requesting edits or unlocks to Locked Pages or for requesting locks. It can also be used for technical requests to moderators such as:

  • creating new pages in the Main/ and other restricted namespaces without going through Trope Launch Pad
  • moving discussion pages
  • moving reviews

Please keep the following guidelines in mind:

  1. Check Locked Pages and Permanent Red Link Club first. They can provide guidance on what are good and bad requests.
  2. Include working links in your request to the page(s) in question.
  3. If asking for edits, state your changes exactly as they should appear on the page, including proper Example Indentation, namespacing, and pothole and quote formatting. And make sure that what you want to add is actually a valid example.
  4. We do not edit archived articles, even to correct links.
  5. If you need to have the capitalization of a page title or namespace of a work fixed, ask here.
  6. If you need to remove a ghost wick, go here.
  7. To request a page to be moved along with its history, go here.
  8. Some locked pages have ongoing cleanup threads, like Complete Monster (Thread), Five-Man Band (Thread), and Magnificent Bastard (Thread). Other than purely technical requests, edits to these pages ought to be discussed in these threads first.
  9. Also, we do not do direct edits (other than changing wicks) to Magnificent Bastard or Complete Monster example lists. Rather, you need to do the edit to a sandbox page that follows the format Sandbox.Magnificent Bastard<Name of the example subpage> and Sandbox.Monster<Name of the example subpage> (e.g for Monster.Disney it's Sandbox.Monster Disney) and ask for it to be swapped in on Saturday for Magnificent Bastard and on Monday for Complete Monster.
  10. Inappropriate pages that keep being recreated, pages banned under The Content Policy and subpages that are disallowed (like Headscratchers pages for tropes) are valid reasons for requesting page locks.

I cannot find the page itself (locked pages) under the Examples. This may sound a bit redundant, but you should put the page under the examples.

The Bible:

  • Serpent of Immortality:
    • In Numbers 21, the children of Israel were dying from being bitten by fiery serpents. Moses made a brass serpent and put it on a pole, and whoever looked at it didn't die from snakebite.
    • John 3:13: "And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up." So the serpent symbolizes Christ, crucified and resurrected.

How is that "past the radar"? Gelding is a standard word for a neutered male horse, going back as far as the English language itself. While one might feel some squick about horses getting their balls chopped off in Real Life, it would only count in the show if it was noticed and commented on by the characters.

After all, we spay and neuter household pets, but nobody cries Think of the Children! about using those terms for them.

Feminist Frequency, under Cowboy Be Bop At His Computer:

  • Sarkeesian lambasts Super Princess Peach for how Peach's powers in that game are "her out-of-control female emotions." However, the actual plot of the game is about Bowser causing everyone's emotions to become super-powered and out-of-control and Peach being the only one capable of controlling her emotions.

And something that might be worth putting on Feminist Frequency, under Internet Backdraft:

I would like to request the following changes to the Adolf Hitler page.

A God Am I—this trope is alphabetized under "A" when it should be alphabetized under "G".

Ate His Gun—needs to be deleted. It is listed as an aversion, since Hitler shot himself in the temple, which raises the question of why it's listed at all.

New entry on Asexuality below, cutting out some natter.

Asexuality: Evidence is scant and contradictory. Hitler's friend Putzi Hanfstaengl claimed Hitler was impotent. There is no firm evidence that Hitler had sexual relations with anyone, including his longtime companion Eva Braun. But some sources claim that Braun took medication as required to repress her menstrual cycle when Hitler came to visit (see In Hitler's Bunker by Armin Dieter Lehmann), and Eva Braun biographer Heike Görtemaker claims that Hitler and Braun had a normal sex life. Hitler is known to have kissed Braun once (see The Big Damn Kiss below).

BFG—should be deleted. While the entry in question would be appropriate in other pages, like a Real Life section of the BFG page, there's no obvious reason why the Dora gun should be associated with Hitler the person. Germany was developing big guns long before Hitler, like the gun that was chucking shells into Paris from 40 miles away in World War I.

((Bishounen}}—should be deleted. Just because there's an Adolf Hitler manga out there somewhere doesn't justify listing this trope on the actual Adolf Hitler page.

New version of The Empire trope below.

The Empire: He created one of the most infamous Real Life examples. At its peak it stretched from Scandinavia to North Africa and from the Pyrenees to the suburbs of Moscow. Every nation in continental Europe was either occupied by him or allied to him except for Sweden, Switzerland, Spain, and Portugal, which were neutral.

Flanderization—I would delete this. It seems like natter and arguing between people who think he was brave and people who don't, people who think he was a good general and people who don't. And there aren't any links or sources for some of the claims here, like the bit about how he got an Iron Cross by supposedly hanging out at HQ and flattering an officer.

For Science!—I would delete this. They weren't testing Zyklon B to further scientific knowledge, they wanted to murder people.

General Failure—there is an example indented under this trope about the drive on Moscow that starts with "Rather than driving on Moscow...", which among other things incorrectly states that Hitler was trying to take Leningrad and Stalingrad, when in fact he was trying to take Leningrand and Kiev; the drive on Stalingrad was the next year. I would rewrite that example like this:

  • Rather than driving on Moscow in the summer of 1941 when the Soviet forces opposing Army Group Center were weak, Hitler instead called a halt in the center and diverted forces to the north to attack Leningrad and the south against the large Soviet concentration at Kiev. This has been a subject of controversy ever since. Many people then and now regarded it as a blunder, given the importance of Moscow to the Soviet war effort. But while the attack on Leningrad failed, the diversion south resulted in the biggest German victory of the war, when they took Kiev and over 600,000 prisoners. Soviet General Zhukov for his part insisted that if Hitler had gone for Moscow that Zhukov would have attacked him in the flank with the troops at Kiev. This is the kind of thing military historians love to argue about.

If I Can't Have You…—a note needs to be included here that the German words "Brennt Paris?" translates to "Is Paris Burning?".

Like You Would Really Do It—this example includes the claim that Himmler tried to talk Hitler out of the Final Solution. Am pretty sure there is zero evidence for anything like that; no idea where that claim comes from. Should be deleted.

Names The Same—makes an unsubstantiated claim about an American GI named Adolf Hitler that probably doesn't belong on the trope page even if it's true. Should be deleted.

Soldiers at the Rear—again, makes a claim that Hitler hung out in the rear during WWI, without providing a source. Should be deleted.

The Beard—alphabetized under T. Needs to be alphabetized under B.

The End of the World as We Know It—alphabetized under T. Needs to be alphabetized under E.

The Starscream—alphabetized under T. Needs to be alphabetized under S.

Straight Edge Evil—incorrectly alphabetized in the T section for some reason, needs to be alphabetized under S.

Villain with Good Publicity—I would delete everything in this example after "which only makes him more scary in retrospect". The rest of that example consists of a rather creepy statement that Hitler might have been classed with the great German chancellors if he'd died before the war, followed by some arguing and natter.

Whew. Anyway, that's what I'd do. The incorrectly alphabetized tropes definitely need to be moved. I guess y'all will decide how many of the other changes I list above are appropriate. Thanks.

Can this be added to Gor?

  • Clip Its Wings: In one of the books Tarl is riding on his tarn (a giant bird used in the military as a Horse of a Different Color) when he's attacked by a wild Ul, a fearsome flying creature somewhat akin to a pterodactyl. In the fight Tarl slashes the membrane of the Ul's wing and it retreats, flying down towards land in a spiral so as to favor the uninjured wing.

While we're on that subject, I'll mark the VisualNovels page for mod attention. The clean up thread disqualified Takano from Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni due to tragic back story, suffering from severe PTSD, and redeeming qualties (love) along every example from Umineko No Naku Koro Ni except Bernkastel due to sympathetic backstory clause (Erika), redeeming traits (EVA-Beatrice), and lack of moral agency (EVA-Beatrice in EP 3 due to her symbolism revealed to be wrong being a part of said lack of agency). EVA's complicated to say the least.

Foot Focus was turned into a redirect as part of a Trope Repair Shop discussion, and I'm working on dewicking it. I suppose it's not surprising that I've bumped into a few locked pages along the way. So:

Literature. The Bible. Please cut this line:

* FootFocus: Solomon describes his wife's feet as being attractive.

Webcomic. The Easy Breather. Please cut this line:

* FootFocus: Done on page 26 of the second volume. The expectation of nudity is subverted, as Samantha is wearing a white leotard.

Thanks in advance. I'll probably have more later.

Double Standard Rape: Female on Male. Mira from Knights Of The Old Republic might be an example.

  • In Knights Of The Old Republic you can ask about the way Mira dresses. She'll explain that it entices men, making them easier to capture. She points out she holds them for two or three days before checking if there is a bounty on them, and suggests another party member do the same thing.

No. Just post which examples should be deleted and the mods will handle it for you.

On the anime page:

  • No one expects a shoujo anime like Candy Candy to have a Complete Monster, but they do indeed have one: a Rich Bitch named Eliza Regan. Even though said Complete Monster doesn't commit murder or any heinous crime in nature, the way she treated a sweet girl like Candy, as well as other people, just for being Candy's friends, it's impossible to see her in another way. Despite Eliza's wealth and upbringing, this is NOT enough for her, and she makes Candy's life a living hell simply because it's fun for her. Not good enough for you? Well, there's also the fact that Candy is not her only victim; she screws with everyone else she can. Yep, because it's her ecstasy...
    • Eliza's twin brother, Neal, is almost as bad, especially when he gets a Villainous Crush on Candy herself...and instead of having a Heel Face Turn out of love, he attempts to pull a Scarpia Ultimatum on her. And yet he still doesn't come off as monstrously as Eliza does.

On the Digimon page:

  • The motherfucking D-Reaper. Imagine a monster that combines the most horrifying aspects of Lovecraftian horror, the Angels, and the Anti-Spirals. Now remove any Well Intentioned Extremism or Blue and Orange Morality and keep all the Labramon kicking and Mind Raping - you have the D-Reaper in a nutshell. Up until Kurata came around, it was tied with Myotismon and Piedmon for the position of the nastiest Digimon baddie ever.
    • More precisely, the D-Reaper from the Digital World was really just performing its' function but in a destructive way. The split D-Reaper that emerges in the real world, however, which includes J-Reaper and all the agents that follow it, is cold, calculating and intelligent, using Jeri's feelings to come to the conclusion that all humanity is worthless and must be purged. And it attempts to do so in insane and sadistic ways. It cares nothing for all life, not even it's own artificial existance, making it truly heartless.
      • There's also everything it did to Beelzemon; namely, using Jeri's voice to taunt him about being a failure and remind him (as if he'd forgotten) about all the horrible things he did as a villain, speaking with barely-concealed sadistic glee. After nearly pushing him to a Heroic BSOD, it then let him get this close to saving Jeri before flaying his back open with sharp, rusty metal discs. After that it tried to throw him into the sea of deletion below, and would have succeeded had Grani not caught him at the last second. It's not as bad as what it did to Jeri, but it's still pretty awful.
        • It's actually even creepier than Kurata

  • Lucemon should count, between manipulating all the Digimon into following him the first time, corrupting an archangel Digimon into doing his dirty work. Said work was destroy the whole Digital World and Human World in the hopes of "rebuilding" it,but it was really just Forthe Evulz. He even murders both of his loyal servants just to get a power up. It gets even worse once Susanoomon scans only the good data and he becomes the appropriately named Satan Mode.

    • Then there's Lilithmon, who orchestrated the fall of the Goddess' Warriors in the Sand Zone and then laughed about it to its sole survivor. And then killed him too. On top of that she almost murdered an innocent child for no reason other than shits and giggles.
    • Splashmon. Seriously - Cyber Land became a ghost town due to his actions. He killed every Digimon in it (he didn't directly kill them, but he set the motion as he absorbs negative energy from the citizens).
    • Gravimon, considering how mercilessly he Mind Raped Kiriha and set in motion the events that resulted in, among other things, the death of Deckerdramon.
    • Apollomon Whispered was designed to be everything his other half was not, and Bagramon succeeded beyond his wildest dreams. This thing was a horrifict example of The Starscream that had a god complex and was planning on massacring an entire kingdom of digimon for no reason other than it was the easy route.

  • Analogman from Digimon World. To put things in perspective, a lot of people think he inspired Kurata.

On the Dragonball page:

  • Dr. Gero could be called one for being responsible for everything that goes down in the Cell Saga. For starters, he kidnaps two teenagers and uses them for his experiments...which in an alternate timeline become monsters themselves. Cell also implies that he may have intended for him to destroy existence itself. Also, in Dragon Ball GT, Gero apparently wanted to replace all life with artificial beings.

  • Androids 17 and 18 from Trunks' Alternate Timeline. Unlike the main ones, where they rarely hurt people and were just trying to live, these two were malicious, unstoppable Ax Crazy killing machines who took pleasure in all the killing and destruction they wrought. Android 17 was particularly Ax Crazy, hijacking a car and running people over just for the lulz, and Android 18 would murder people who were giving her clothes willingly. They also murdered all the Z Fighters. Needless to say, it was very satisfying when Trunks returned from the main timeline and curbstomped them with ease. What made it all the more clear is "The Reason You Suck" Speech he gave them. The two of them loved the terror they put into their victims, how helpless they made them feel before killing them, making Trunks' Roaring Rampage of Revenge on them all the more fitting because he makes it a point to ensure they know just how powerless they are before him before he killed them so they'd feel the same way as their victims.
    • They do possess a Freudian Excuse, though; Dr. Gero apparently rewired their brains so they would hate humanity as plans for world domination.

  • Bibidi, Babidi's father, is even worse. For one thing, he was the one who actually created Majin Buu, and he's also directly responsible for countless deaths within the universe even before Majin Buu was sealed on Earth, as well as driving the various Supreme Kais to near-extinction. Afterwards, when Kid Buu becomes Fat Buu, he actually goes so far as to manipulate a pretty pure-hearted Majin Buu into annihilating everyone by promising him cake as a reward. It tells you a lot about the guy that he would knowingly create a being incapable of seeing the universe as anything other than a shoot 'em up video game and with the power to win that "game".
