Characters / Voltes V Legacy: Camp Big Falcon and Associates

Go To

    open/close all folders
    As a whole
  • Adaptational Backstory Change: In the original anime, Hamaguchi forced Ippei to join the Voltes Team by kidnapping him from the United States of America, while also disapproving of him keeping his horse around as he "had no need for it". In Legacy, Mark joins Big Falcon consensually and still has his horse.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: While most of the cast got hit by Adaptational Nice Guy, a few of them had their Jerkass traits exaggerated.
    • In the anime, Ippei would sometimes act like an insensitive jerk towards his fellow pilots, but was also quick to patch things up with them and for the most part treated them with respect and camaraderie. This version of Ippei (Mark), in contrast, is a massive douchebag who keeps taking out his insecurities on the Armstrong brothers, needlessly antagonizing them for the pettiest reasons and even actively provokes Little John, a young boy, into getting physical with him over something he started. His treatment of Jamie isn't any better, rudely insulting and disrespecting her whenever she tries to offer him advice instead of merely teasing her like he did in the anime.
    • Oscar has Mark and Steve humiliated in front of Bert and forced to do push-ups until they dropped because he heard a rumour they were attracted to his daughter.
    • Bert sells out his brother and Mark to Oscar for steak. Later, Steve and Mark get Revenge on him by dragging him out of the EDF base, implying an Uncertain Doom in store for him.
    • Steve lacks Kenichi's Thou Shalt Not Kill attitude towards the Boazanians and when Zardoz is laying in front of him, Steve brandishes his sword, saying that to rid the world of evil and avenge his mother, he must kill Zardoz. In comparision, Kenichi had compassion for the Prince in spite of everything and believed he still deserved to be treated humanely in spite of all he's done.note
    • The whole Voltes team are Vitriolic Best Buds frequently argue and bicker with each other to the point of throwing petty insults at each other as far as seventy three episodes into the series, in comparision to their anime counterparts who were True Companions.
  • Adaptational Location Change: The original anime was set in Japan. Legacy changes this to the Philippines. Lampshaded in an episode where Zandra mentions that there's a possibility Baron Hrothgar landed there, while going on a long-winded explanation about the country.
  • Adaptational Name Change: As the characters are named after the 1977 Philippine-English dub of Voltes V which changes the name of almost every character, this trope is in full effect.
    • Kenichi Go to Steve Armstrong.
    • Daijirou Go to "Big Bert" Robert Armstrong.
    • Hiyoshi Go to "Little" Jon Armstrong.
    • Megumi Oka to Jamie Robinson.
    • Ippei Mine to Mark Gordon.
    • Professor Mitsuyo Go to Dr. Mary Ann Collins Armstrong.
    • Professor Kentaro Go to Dr. Ned Armstrong.
    • Professor Hamaguchi to Dr. Richard Smith.
    • Professor Sakonji to Dr. Hook.
    • Commander Oka to General Oscar Robinson.
    • Eiffel to Alpha.
    • Tako to OCTO-1.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Everyone gets a dose of this.
    • In the original anime, Hamaguchi had Ippei kidnapped in broad daylight and forced him to be the pilot for the Volt Bomber against his will. Hamaguchi also had him separated from Eiffel, his Only Friend, for years. When the two were finally reunited, Ippei decided to give Hamaguchi the finger and escape Big Falcon with Eiffel. To convince him to stay, Kenichi threatened to shoot Eiffel with his gun. He chased after Ippei and Eiffel, still threatening them with his gun, and fired a warning shot that almost hit Eiffel. This continued until they were interrupted by the Beast Fighter that put Eiffel's life in danger, after which Ippei realized the importance of his position as a Voltes pilot. After Kenichi saved Eiffel, Ippei gained a newfound respect for him and the two became good friends. Here, Mark Gordon was conscripted by the Voltes Team training program and allowed to bring Alpha along, and Dr. Smith was supportive of him as a father figure who tells him not to self-doubt his potential.
    • Throughout Voltes V's earlier episodes, Kenichi had a habit of bringing out his gun in response to any conflict. He once pulled out the gun on his own ten year old brotherinvoked because he had the audacity to bring his Robot Buddy with the Voltes Team on a mission. When Hiyoshi cried and begged him to spare Tako, Kenichi gave him the gun and told him to shoot it instead. Fortunately, later episodes had Kenichi go through Character Development and become a more empathetic person. Here, Steve doesn't do any of that.
    • Little Jon's anime counterpart, Hiyoshi Goh, was introduced fighting a shark underwater with a knife as part of his training. Here, he instead rides a dolphin to better emphasize his love for the ocean.
    • In the original anime, Mitsuyo thought nothing of allowing Hiyoshi to pilot the Volt Frigate, but in Legacy, her counterpart Mary Anne is vehemently against the idea due to his age.
    • The Voltes Team don't make (the arguably sexist) comments about how Megumi should "play with dolls" and laugh at her while she's injured.
    • In the anime, Professor Sakonji cruelly threw out all of the belongings of Voltes Team outside of the base, even stepping on a medal from Kenichi that fell off from the crate in front of him. On the other hand, Downplayed with Dr. Hook as he had their belongings taken to the base's storage instead where they will be kept there.
  • Gratuitous English: While the show is in Tagalog, there are many moments where characters will slip into English, or a mixture of Tagalong and English, particularly Steve, Mark and Dr. Hook.
  • Named In The Adaptation: Dr. Hook's first name is revealed to be Larry.
  • Race Lift: Since the original anime was set in Japan, all the Earthling characters were Japanese. Legacy changes the setting from Japan to the Philippines, which results in tropes like McNinja for Jamie Robinson.note

Camp Big Falcon

    In General
  • Hero Academy: Camp Big Falcon holds the Voltes Team training program where several selected candidates would undergo various Training from Hell tests and only five will make the cut as Voltes V's pilots. However, when the Boazanian invasion happened, only Steve and Big Bert Armstrong, Mark Gordon and Jamie Robinson are present in the base while Eva Sanchez, Ally Chan, Tomas del Rosario and PJ Santiago were on a day off in the mainland after sneaking out. This results in Little Jon filling in the vacant fifth spot in the Voltes Team and General Robinson disqualifying Eva and her fellow candidates from the training program.
  • Home Base: Camp Big Falcon is this and it's set up on a bird-shaped island where the Voltes Team lives there with their own personal rooms and training grounds, and the Volt Machines are stored inside.
  • Mission Control: The personnel of Camp Big Falcon at the command center are this, providing intel and overseeing the status of Voltes V in battle with a Beast Fighter in every engagement with Dr. Smith (before his death and Dr. Hook taking his place) and his second in command Chief Kelly leading them. On the other hand, Camp Big Falcon also have a cadre of engineers who repair and maintain the Volt Machines in top condition, and doctors and nurses who ensure the well being of Voltes Team and the base personnel.
  • Red Shirt Army: The soldiers of the Earth Defense Force in Camp Big Falcon are this as they get shot down by Boazanian forces when deployed to try to stop them until Voltes V is deployed and formed.

    Steve Armstrong
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/migueltanfelix.jpg
Steve Armstrong
Played by: Miguel Tanfelix, Seth dela Cruz (young)

The team leader of Voltes Team and piloting the Volt Crewzer, forming the robot's head, and while he is the eldest son of Doctor Mary Ann Armstrong-Collins, he is actually the second son of Doctor Ned Armstrong/Baron Hrothgar . As a child, Steve used to be an adventurous youth, but after the departure of his father, he changed his attitude into that of a responsible big brother for his brothers. He grows up into a motocross champion while being an excellent marksman, but heeding his father's last words, he knows his destiny is to lead his brothers and teammates to protect Earth from the invasion of the Boazanians.

  • Accidental Public Confession: He unwittingly reveals to Judy, a hornless Boazanian spy, who holds Big Bert's cellphone that the Voltes V pilots she was looking for happens to be her boyfriend and his teammates whom she met from the brief tour at Camp Big Falcon as he tries to appeal with Big Bert to come back. Fortunately for him, Judy chose not to tell Zardoz about it and gave out random names from the radio she heard instead. Otherwise, it would have been another example of Nice Job Breaking It, Hero.
  • Armor-Piercing Question: In Episode 45, Steve asks the impostor pretending to be Ned what their birthdays are, and makes it clear to Big Bert that he's probing and that he didn't actually forget. In Episode 46 where they left off, the impostor actually manages to cite them correctly, but not before a lot tension first.
  • Berserker Tears: He does this when brutally beating up Vaizanger with Voltes V after Mary Ann sacrificed her life to save him and his teammates.
  • Break His Heart to Save Him: He does this to Big Bert who was looking for Judy by telling him that the Boazanians took her away for betraying them which in reality, she went into hiding.
  • Bring It: He orders Big Bert to shoot him with his gun so that he can learn the "Butterfly Return" technique by catching the bullet with a pair of rocks he picked up. And he succeeded in doing so.
  • The Leader: He is the leader of the Voltes Team.
  • Made of Iron: Due to his half-Boazanian heritage, he is able to survive a bullet from Apable who shot him in the middle of final exam, endure several failed attempts of learning the Butterfly Return technique from Big Bert, and woke up with mild annoyance after being hit by a rock to the head from Judy who did it to lead the pursuing Boazanian soldiers away and go into hiding. He also shrugs off bullets from Draco who took his pistol and shot him, surprising the three horned Boazanian general.
  • Never Be Hurt Again: Big Bert accuses Steve of not allowing himself to ever love again ever since their mother's death after doubting impostor Ned even after he correctly tells them his son's birthdays.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: When Dr. Smith orders Voltes Team to return to Camp Big Falcon that is under attack by Skull Ship, he insists on going after Vaizanger who seemingly disappeared from sight despite the protest and insistence of his brothers, Jamie Robinson and even Mark Gordon. As a result, Vaizanger was able to catch Voltes Team off guard by the chains and trap them in its hold, which prompted Mary Ann to pilot a jet fighter and save her sons from the Beast Fighter at the cost of her own life.
  • No-Sell: He is unaffected by a vial of microbes unleashed by Draco, revealing to the enemy general of his Boazanian heritage.
  • Punch Catch: Is on the receiving end of thus by Impostor Ned after confronting him with Little John.
  • Rank Up: He is promoted to Lieutenant Commander with a Medal of Honor.
  • Red Is Heroic: His suit is colored red, which reflects his position in the Voltes Team as well as being the big brother to both Big Bert and Little Jon.

    Mark Gordon
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/radsonflores.png
Mark Gordon
Played by: Radson Flores

The second-in-command of the Voltes Team, piloting the arms section of the robot, the Volt Bomber. An orphan who grew up alone in America due to his mother dying to protect him from a pack of wolves, and then his father shortly followed. Even so, Mark managed to make a career of a rodeo champion thanks to the companionship of his beloved horse Alpha. Until one day he's suddenly plucked out from his life as a rodeo champion by Camp Big Falcon to serve as one of the defenders of humanity by being a part of the Voltes Team. Mark is a bit bitter and cynical at this sudden change of life, causing him to bicker a lot with the team leader Steve, but nonetheless he still gives his all to defend humanity and grows to respect his new friends.

  • Aesop Amnesia: A repeat offender. Almost every time Mark looks like he's learned a valuable lesson in being more understanding and fair towards people, it only takes a few episodes for him to switch back to his self-centered and obnoxious ways, reaching its zenith when his feelings towards Jamie morphs into a toxic sense of entitlement. The lessons finally stick near the end when Mark, having gone through a Heel Realization, at last sorts his act together.
  • All Take and No Give: Mark is a perpetual whiner who demands for others to understand him and his many psychological issues, yet can't spare the effort to do the same. He is especially guilty of this towards Steve, using emotional manipulation to try and guilt trip Steve into giving up on pursuing his own romantic feelings towards Jamie for Mark's sake, even though Mark has done nothing to earn such favor from Steve, whom he continues to needlessly antagonize from time to time.
  • Anguished Declaration of Love: He confesses to Jamie in Episode 41, but her heartbreak over Steve turning her down earlier in the episode scares her off of moving in on Mark for the time being. She does try to give him a chance later on, but it ultimately doesn't work out because Jamie has never really gotten over Steve, and Mark eventually realizes that he never stood a chance.
  • Americans Are Cowboys: Even though he is a Filipino, he grew up in America as a rodeo champion with a cowboy theme.
  • Animal Companion: His horse Alpha is this as they are close and he is thankful that Camp Big Falcon allowed him to bring Alpha along after being formally recruited into the training program. It is complete contrast with his anime counterpart Ippei Mine who was Press-Ganged and forcefully separated from his horse Eiffel.note
  • Blood Knight: Eager to get into the fight with the second Beast Fighter in "Skull Ship" and said "Now the real fun begins".
  • Blue Is Heroic: He is a member of Voltes Team and one of defenders of Earth after all.
  • The Bully: In the early episodes, Mark was fond of goading Steve, Jon and Bert into fighting him either by cruelly insulting them or insulting their loved ones. Jamie was often forced to step in and make him stop. Even in later episodes, whenever he's angry at Steve, he always resorts to either insulting him again and calling him a terrible leader, or straight up physically assaulting him.
  • Conscience Makes You Go Back: Even though he told Dr. Hook that he's done with Voltes Team despite there's another Beast Fighter attack, he appears conflicted when seeing the Volt Machines fly off and then rides back to the base with Alpha and head out in the Volt Bomber.
  • Conscription: Unlike his anime counterpart Ippei Mine, he is recruited through this as part of the Voltes Team training program at Camp Big Falcon.
  • Drama Queen: A rare male example. Mark has an embarrassing tendency to blow up, throw temper tantrums, and make big issues out of even the most minor of disagreements, thanks to his crippling immaturity and general ineptitude when it comes to social tact.
  • Entitled to Have You: As Mark's unrequited feelings towards Jamie grows more toxic, he resorts to emotional manipulation to try keeping her and Steve apart, first by using the "pity me" card on Steve by claiming that he needs Jamie more because she's likely one of the few women out there who can stand to be with a socially inept guy like him, and then trying to convince Jamie to give up on Steve because he's "more into Eva" even though Mark knows deep down that's a lie. In the end, it finally sinks in to Mark that all Jamie ever felt for him was pity and concern, and it was his own fault for warping her affections as a sign of romance.
  • Fedora of Asskicking: Unsurprisingly, since he's a cowboy, he has a stereotypical cowboy hat. When he tells Jamie they're Just Friends, he stares at her, firmly places it on his head, and struts off.
  • Freudian Excuse: Has a very low opinion on mothers in general due to how he (thought he) lost his own, and tries to use this same excuse to keep treating his teammates with petty and unfair contempt.
  • Freudian Excuse Is No Excuse: As Jamie and Dr. Smith have tried to drill into his head time and time again, Mark's childhood woes and troubled background do not give him free rein to behave like such an obnoxious and disrespectful asshole towards everyone.
  • His Own Worst Enemy: Mark has plenty of woes regarding his social life: lack of a strong support system, lack of friends, and lack of a love life. This wouldn't be a big problem if not for his thoroughly unpleasant personality which drives people away, and not helped by his half-hearted efforts to change for the better until the last episodes.
  • Ineffectual Loner: He is this after the loss of his parents and growing up alone which makes him abrasive at hanging out with others and bonding with them. As Dramatic Irony however, he refuses Tomas' offer of accompanying him, Eva, Santiago and Ally on a day off far away from Camp Big Falcon and if he did accept, Voltes Team would still lack one more member to pilot the Volt Bomber.
  • Insane Troll Logic: In episode 75, Mark blames Little Jon for being kidnapped by Takeo and Arisa, stating that he should have been more vigilant. This triggers Steve and Bert's Big Brother Instincts, given that Little Jon is a ''child''.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: He may be rude and insubordinate but even he agrees with Dr. Smith's orders to get back to Camp Big Falcon when it's in danger by the Skull Ship as a bigger priority, pointing this out to Steve who insists on finding Vaizanger who seemingly disappeared from Voltes Team's sight.
  • The Lancer: He is this in Voltes Team as he serves as second in command and he attacks with the Ultra Electromagnetic Whip and Tops which contrasts in the anime where Kenichi is the only one who uses them.
  • Manchild: Of the "petulant and bratty" type. Mark's pompous behavior comes across as that of a person with stunted emotional development. He lashes out like a temperamental child and lacks social tact, often failing to treat others with basic human decency.
  • Morality Pet: His is Jamie Robinson as she was one of the two people who reached out to him despite his attempts to brush her off even though he was heartbroken and upset after learning Jamie still has feelings for Steve and claimed him as her boyfriend to get Eva off her back.
  • Never Be Hurt Again: After learning that Jamie still has feelings for Steve and used him, he returns to his aloof self and bluntly tells Jamie that they're simply teammates working professionally from now on.
  • Never My Fault: Mark lashes out at Jamie and Steve for failing to resist their feelings for each other, and puts the blame squarely on them for hurting him. Mark fails to acknowledge that it was largely his own fault for desperately and stubbornly pushing himself towards Jamie despite knowing that she was in love with another man and that his chances with her was very slim from the start. He does have a Heel Realization later on, but it takes a long while for him to do some serious self-reflection.
  • No Social Skills: Explicitly calls this on himself in Episode 41.
  • Ooh, Me Accent's Slipping: Radson Flores doesn't hide his natural Filipino accent at all even though his character is Filipino-American and grew up in the States.
  • Rage Breaking Point: He finally loses his temper after confronting Steve about his feelings for Jamie he confirmed and assaults him despite Steve and Big Bert trying to calm him down.
  • Rank Up: He is promoted to Lieutenant with a Medal of Honor.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: He quits Voltes Team and leaves Camp Big Falcon after finding out that Steve harbored feelings for Jamie the whole time, and Jamie still longs for Steve despite his apparent cold rejection and that she claims him as her boyfriend to spite Steve. Although it didn't last long as he returns to aid them and form Voltes V against Desler.
  • Weapon Specialization: As a cowboy, he has a penchant for whips and gets excited when he learns from Big Bert about the Ultra Electromagnetic Whip.

    Robert "Big Bert" Armstrong
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mattlozano.png
Robert Armstrong
Played by: Matt Lozano, Steven Canja (young)

The Voltes Team's defense and hand-to-hand combat expert, piloting the Volt Panzer that forms the robot's body and torso. Despite his big stature, Big Bert is actually the second son of Doctor Mary Ann Armstrong-Collins and the third son of Doctor Ned Armstrong/Baron Hrothgar. Formerly a playful boy, the disappearance of his father changed him, and afterwards, he was sent by his mother to live among monks for a while to learn many forms of martial arts. When he returned, he's already mastered many fighting styles, with his favorite weapon being the naginata and bo staff. Like his brothers, he further trained himself to eventually engage in the battle for humanity against the Boazanians.

  • Adaptational Comic Relief: Half of Bert's appearances in the show can be summed up as "he's fat". His weight is a constant source of mockery in almost every episode, to the point him not binge eating was treated as a O.O.C. Is Serious Business in-universe by Steve. Bert's addiction to food is so severe that when the vending machine doesn't give him food, he attempts to beat it with a chair (only for Jamie to stop him, critisize him and buy him the food herself). If there's a scene with Bert and Jamie in it, expect Bert to do something oafish while Jamie plays the role of The Comically Serious.
  • Adaptational Personality Change: Daijirou was a Gentle Giant with a Hidden Heart of Gold who loved dogs and piloting. Bert is a Sad Clown who constantly mocks himself because of his weight, views himself as a failure and a Disappointing Older Sibling to Jon and is willing to humiliate his own brother and teammate if it means getting a bite to eat.
  • Big Eater: Is shown eating a lot during breakfast in "Destiny to Fullfill" and excusing it as a need for energy before Steve shows the bullet he survived from. Unlike his enhanced endurance like with Steve, Boazanian heritage may or may not have anything to do with this particular trait. He's been shown eating a lot when he goes out, and has even sometimes brought home a lot of takeout food back to base.
  • The Big Guy: He is this in the Voltes Team as he is the biggest man and that he provides weapons through Volt Panzer for Steve and Mark to use.
  • Cannot Keep a Secret: Commander Robinson is easily able to get information out of him by offering him steak.
  • Dogged Nice Guy: Bert still yearns for Judalah despite everything, and Steve is forced to Break His Heart to Save Him.
  • Drama Queen: When Steve shot him in the leg to see if he possessed a Boazanian half too, he went over the top of being injured by his own brother until he calms down to see Steve was right. When the Armstrong brothers and Zardoz under his "Manuel Nobaz" disguise play with Nerf guns, he makes an exaggerated death pose when pelted by Steve and "Manuel".
  • Expy: Of Tanosuke Hata from Future Robot Daltanious. Both have a Big Eater habit and are the subject of You Are Fat jokes at their expense. The difference is that while Tanosuke falls for any woman he sees, Big Bert only has eyes for Judy.
  • Interspecies Romance: He falls in love with Judy, the hornless Boazanian spy, and enjoys spending time with her to the point he resigns from the Voltes Team to be with her. Sadly, this ship is sunk after discovering her real reason for wanting to see Camp Big Falcon. Although he wants to find Judy, he is heartbroken after Steve claims that the Boazanians took her away for treason (in reality, Judy went into hiding) and he can never see her again. The two of them ultimately reunite with each other before the Grand Finale.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Due to his depression from realizing that Judy is actually a Boazanian spy, he actually doesn't go to breakfast and mopes in bed, which worries Steve when he calls for him.
  • Rank Up: He is promoted to Lieutenant with a medal of honor.
  • Sad Clown: Appears to be this as he cracks food-related jokes (such as when he calls Namazuka delicious and later declares it will become his catfish salad) which is his coping mechanism after Judy was gone.
  • Shared Signature Move: The "Butterfly Return" technique which he taught his brother Steve how to use it in a crash course training so that Voltes V would have a chance against Gardo.
  • Stepford Smiler: Confesses to Jon that he's secretly disappointed in himself and takes a dig at his own body in front of him. Jon reassures him, even though he does join in on the fat-shaming.
  • Stout Strength: He may be big, but he is quite physically strong in his own right as he is able to handle several martial artists during his training and later, some thugs who were harrassing Judy which he drove them away with ease.
  • Take This Job and Shove It: After having enough of Steve's disapproval of him spending more time with Judy than training with the Voltes Team, he lividly declares that he quits and gives his resignation letter to Dr. Smith, firmly standing by his decision. Of course, this doesn't really last as he was just lashing out.
  • You Are Fat: Is subjected to this regarding his tendency to eat at any opportunity. It went to the point the touch screen vending machine of Camp Big Falcon refused to give out food to Big Bert because he already took too much food.

    "Little" Jon Armstrong
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fvgxzvrakaaxeln.jpg

Played by: Raphael Landicho

The young genius and mechanic of the Voltes Team, piloting the Volt Frigate, which forms the legs of Voltes V. The youngest of the Armstrong brothers, to his older brothers, he'd always be the child who never felt the warmth and love of a real father. Despite his hurdles however, he's gifted with a brilliant mind, and keen eyes for gadgetries. Little Jon became part of the team because the other three candidates besides Steve, Mark, Big Bert, and Jamie were off-base against orders when the Boazanians began their attack, and there was no time to wait for them to return, leaving one empty spot that he ends up filling.

  • Adaptational Curves: Little Jon has a chubby build (he is like a mini-Big Bert because of it and also both of them sharing similar colors of their uniforms but with different shades) compared to the slim Hiyoshi.
  • Blackmail: Little Jon tries this by letting his mother know that he knows of his and his brothers' abnormal heritage, and promises to keep it a secret on exchange for a chance to prove himself. His mother even calls this blackmail, and swiftly shuts him down.
  • Child Prodigy: Apparently, it's part of his Boazanian heritage. At the start of Episode 11, when technical issues start cropping up in Voltes V before even leaving the base, he immediately resolves them, to Dr. Smith's amazement. And this secures him a spot in the team, though his mother needed a lot of convincing before she relented. He even created OCTO-1, his robot companion and unofficial sixth Voltes Team member.
  • Child Soldier: He is this the moment he becomes a member of Voltes Team (after convincing his mother and that there's no other choice with the other candidates absent) to oppose the Boazanian invasion and he even sees his first battle to be like that of a video game.
  • Drama Queen: Is this just like Big Bert when he goes over the top of his brother falling to the Nerf guns of Steve and Zardoz under his "Manuel Nobaz" disguise.
  • Falling into the Cockpit: Unlike Hiyoshi in the original, this applies to Little Jon since he only makes it to the team because there are only four candidates in the base to pilot the Volt Machines due to the other candidates deciding to sneak off to the mainland for their day off, thus unable to return in time when the Boazanians attack.
  • Invisibility Cloak:
    • Uses a cloaking device on his wrist to sneak into classified room where Voltes V is built and completed inside.
    • Uses this again to escape from Steve and attend the model boat competition in Episode 30. And it can even cover his Mikasa as well.
    • Uses this again to try escape from Android Ned Armstrong who revealed its true nature. Unfortunately, the robot imposter was able to use Enemy Scan to find him and grab him by the neck, dispelling the invisibility.
  • Just a Kid: Receives this treatment from his mother, much to his frustration.
  • Not a Game: Little Jon excitedly states that the Voltes Team's first sortie against the Boazanian invaders will be like a video game, much to his mother's exasperation.
  • Rank Up: Averted as he is justifiably still too young to be part of the Earth Defense Force, but receives the Medal of Honor as a member of Voltes Team nonetheless.
  • The Smart Guy: He is this in the Voltes Team as he is in charge of engineering to oversee and handle the technical issues of Voltes V.
  • Spanner in the Works: Him going AWOL by not fielding when Gamera attacks is detrimental not only to the Voltes Team, but to the Boazanians as well due to not being able to form the Voltes V and get blown up by the bomb Impostor Ned set up in the Volt Frigate.

    Jamie Robinson
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ysabelortega2.png
Jamie RobinsonClick here to see her civilian outfit

Played by: Ysabel Ortega

Daughter of General Robinson of the Earth Defense Force, as well as the pilot of Volt Lander, forming the feet of Voltes V. Jamie has trained in the arts of ninjutsu since childhood. She's also learned gentleness from her mother, which tends to translate to trying to mediate for the Voltes Team, especially when Steve is being too hard-ass for his own good and either overly scolds Little Jon or gets into an argument with Mark. Since her father is a commander of the Earth Defense Force and co-designed Voltes V itself, Jamie is also trained to take her place amongst the Voltes Team and to fight against the Boazanians and protect mankind.

  • Action Girl: One of the few females recruited by Camp Big Falcon. During a SERE exercise, she, Eva Sanchez, and Ally Chan were able to take down trainers acting as OpFor troops.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: She was willing to use Mark's feelings for her to get one up over Eva. Mark has a breakdown when he finds out Jamie lied.
  • Adaptational Job Change: Megumi wasn't a medic (frankly, none of the Voltes Team were. That was a job left to Big Falcon's staff). However, here, Jamie is responsible for monitoring her teammates' health conditions during battle.
  • Adaptation Personality Change:
    • Jamie is less confident and assertive than her anime counterpart, Megumi Oka. When Jamie is insulted or bullied, she usually cowers and doesn't stand up for herself (unless it's a case where her buttons are pushed too far, such as Eva trashing her room). Jamie bent the knee to Eva's whims and forcibly apologized, and was only spared from further humiliation because Steve intervened and told Eva off. When Megumi witnessed Ippei being rude to the Go brothers, she followed him to his room and demanded he tell her why he did that, going as far as to threaten to not give his whip back if he didn't.
    • Jamie caves in to Eva's social pressure when she mocks her for not having a boyfriend; in contrast Megumi didn't care for romance.
    • Jamie vows to destroy all the Boazanians to avenge her father, something Megumi never did.
Megumi, in Voltes V: "Father, please watch me, I will surely beat that armored beast fighter Daiand with my own hands!"
Jamie, in Voltes V: Legacy: "Father, I swear...I promise...I will destroy all the Boazanians!"
  • Anguished Declaration of Love: Ends up confessing to Steve after stopping him from going off alone in Episode 39, much to Mark's dismay while Little John invokes I Knew It! before Big Bert shuts his mouth.
  • Betty and Veronica: Jamie is Betty (kind, sweet and has a girl-next-door personality) while Eva is Veronica (haughty, selfish and a complete bitch).
  • Daddy's Girl: She often calls Commander Robinson "daddy" despite being a teen.
  • Dude Magnet: Jamie draws in men like honey draws in vespids, so far managing to have Steve, Mark and Tomas pining for her.
  • Expy: Of Sanae Shiratori from Future Robot Daltanious. While Sanae is no fighter and an Actual Pacifist, she and Jamie are both Nice Girls with brown hair who try their best to keep Kento and Danji/Steve and Mark from fighting each other respectively. Both share the The Medic role in Camp Big Falcon and Adalus, and are the Morality Pet to Mark/Danji as well.
  • Girls Love Stuffed Animals: In the scene where Jamie, Steve and Mark find that Eva trashed the former's room, a stuffed toy dog can be seen on the floor.
  • The Heart: She is this in Voltes Team as she does her best to keep Steve and Mark from fighting each other and bring the team closer together as Fire-Forged Friends.
  • Honor Before Reason: Was forced in Episode 24 to bend her knees in front of Eva (because she promised to if she was wrong) after inadvertently falsely accusing her of smuggling classified information when it's actually under Dr. Smith's orders.
  • It's All My Fault: She feels guilty of using Mark's affections for her to spite Steve who seemingly rejected her and got back with Eva, straining her friendship with Mark who coldly tells her to leave him alone and that they will work as professionals from now on.
  • Just Friends: She states that she and Steve are this even though Everyone Can See It in Camp Big Falcon, including her own teammates. Subverted as she had feelings for Steve the whole time.
  • The Medic: Her role in Voltes Team is this as she monitors the health status of her teammates when they pilot Voltes V together.
  • McNinja: Like Megumi Oka, who is a heir to the Kōga-ryū and is Japanese, Jamie's trained in ninjitsu. But she's from the Philippines.
  • Nonconformist Dyed Hair: She has some streaks of teal hair dye as a nod to her anime counterpart Megumi Oka.
  • Oblivious to Love: She doesn't realize that Steve has feelings for her as she tells him that she hoped he find a better woman in his life after Eva broke up with him. Subverted when it's later revealed that she's also been secretly in love with him the whole time.
  • Promoted to Love Interest: In the original anime, Megumi Oka and Kenichi Go were not romantically involved.
  • Rank Up: She is promoted to Lieutenant with a Medal of Honor.
  • Tertiary Sexual Characteristics: In earlier episodes, she had a scrunchie (in homage to Megumi), and in later episodes, a white bow.
  • Wooden Katanas Are Even Better: Uses one during training against Big Bert (in place of the metal type Megumi used in the original) when he reveals the Butterfly Return technique.

Dr. Ned Armstrong / Baron Hrothgar
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dennistrillo.png
Ned ArmstrongBaron Hrothgar
Played by: Dennis Trillo

The father of the Armstrong brothers. He went missing after warning about the invasion of Boazanians. He's actually a Boazanian himself; Baron Hrothgar, but born hornless, considered an abnormality for his people. Despite so, he's still the Wise Prince of his people, wearing fake horns until that fact was exposed by his jealous and ambitious cousin Zambojil. For that, he's branded a traitor and had to escape to Earth, with the knowledge that Emperor Zambojil will set his sights to Earth. Additionally, he had a wife in Boazan named Rozalia that died in childbirth, and the son he had would be known as Prince Zardoz.

While on Earth, he's given his new name by his second wife Mary Ann, acquiring her late father's name (Ned) and an inspiring surname (Armstrong, after an incident where he was shot at the arm by an Earth gun, and healed from it quickly as part of his Boazanian physiology).

  • Action Dad: He is this as he leads his fellow hornless Boazanians to gather weapons and numbers big enough to launch a prison outbreak where they would fight their way through the armored soldiers guarding them and get to the teleporter sending them to the Imperial capital, which they succeeded and escaped although at the great cost as his ship is the only one that made it off Boazan. After returning to his homeworld, he easily takes down Imperial soldiers when he encounters Zardoz, whom he doesn't know the prince was his first son. Although he was forced to escape and jump off the cliff to the ocean when more groups of soldiers arrive to back them up.
  • Adaptational Badass: He leads the breakout from the prison camps and successfully escaped compared to his anime counterpart Gohl who got broken free by General Dange.
  • Adaptational Dye-Job: Hrothgar has black hair while his anime counterpart La Gohl has purple hair.
  • Adaptational Wimp: He's unable to resist Zuhl's mind-reading device like his original counterpart could, thus revealing to Zuhl his entire backstory...and the revelation of both of his identities being connected. It's only from falling unconscious to the device's voltage that Zuhl doesn't get the schematics for Voltes V as well.
  • Fallen Prince: He is this after being exposed as a hornless Boazanian and get sent to the prison camps. Baron Zander lampshades this when gleefully rubbing in his face that the prison camps "will be [his] new kingdom" among the hornless Boazanians.
  • Going Native: After settling on Earth, he adopts the name of Ned Armstrong from Mary Ann's suggestion and becomes a doctor aiding Camp Big Falcon in building Voltes V and also a father of half-Boazanian sons: Steve, Big Bert and Little Jon.
  • He Cleans Up Nicely: While on Earth, he gets a haircut and a new change of clothes, which made him very good looking as a respectable doctor as Ned Armstrong.
  • Hide Your Otherness: He has to wear prosthetic horns in public and it often frustrate him that he was living a lie. He takes them off despite his panicking mother and doctor telling him to put them back right when Rozalia enters the room and saw her husband being hornless all along. Fortunately for him, she still loves him for who he is and reaffirms it. This also bites him when Zambojil removed his fake horns in front of everyone in court and they, who originally supported his ascension to the throne, turned against him.
  • La Résistance: After returning to Boazan and evading Zardoz and his men, he forms a rebellion of hornless Boazanians and leads a guerrilla warfare against the Imperial military in contrast with his anime counterpart Gohl who was captured and re-enslaved after he refused Zambajil's offer to regain his former royal status in exchange for his knowledge to be used for universal conquest upon his return to Boazan.
  • Manly Facial Hair: He grows this after returning to Boazan and leading the hornless Boazanian resistance.
  • Mr. Exposition: He is this when explaining to his wife Mary Ann, General Oscar, Dr. Richard Smith and the world leaders in the Earth's Defense Force meeting about the Beast Fighters and their One-Man Army capabilities.
  • No One Could Survive That!: Jumps off a cliff after being pursued by Prince Zardoz and some guards. They do toss grenades after him to increase the chances of killing him, but given the source material, it's clear he somehow makes it out alive. Which it is confirmed as Hrothgar leads the resistance of hornless Boazanians against Zambojil's tyranny.
  • Sarcasm-Blind: He does not pick up on one of the world leaders using air quotes in her sarcastic question of how to handle the Beast Fighters which he responded by presenting the blueprints of Voltes V.
  • Undead Tax Exemption: Thanks to his friendship and connections with Dr. Smith and General Robinson, he is able to settle on Earth and become part of human society as Dr. Ned Armstrong alongside marrying Dr. Mary Ann and have three half-Boazanian sons as a family, all without any issue.

    Dr. Mary Ann Collins Armstrong
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/carlaabellana5.png
Mary Ann Collins Armstrong
Younger

Played by: Carla Abellana

The Earthling wife of Dr. Ned Armstrong, the mother of the Armstrong brothers. She co-designed Voltes V with her husband, Dr. Smith and General Robinson, and eventually saw her husband leaving and going missing, while warning her that the Boazanians will come to invade. For that, she had to train her children to prepare for the day of reckoning as warned by her husband.

  • Brainy Brunette: She is this as she has brown hair and one of the co-designers of Voltes V and a remarkable scientist in her own right.
  • Deceased Parents Are the Best:
    • She has fondness for her late father Ned Collins and she gave that name to her would-be husband Hrothgar when he decides to settle on Earth with a new identity.
    • On the other hand, she is this to her three sons Steve, Big Bert and Little Jon after she sacrificed herself to save them from Vaizanger.
  • First Contact: She's Ned's.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Once she sees the Voltes Team, and especially her sons, in big trouble during the showdown with Vaizanger, she decides to ram the fighter jet she is piloting against the Beast Fighter's mouth cannon, knowing all too well she will die in the process. Her last words and thoughts are of her sons.
  • Interspecies Romance: She falls in love with Hrothgar after meeting him and helped him adjust in living on Earth, especially when she gave him the name of Ned Armstrong.
  • Mama Bear: She unhesitatingly pilots a jet fighter to attack Vaizanger with a barrage of missiles and then ram into the Beast Fighter's mouth, causing its laser cannon to overload and explode in its face, which broke the chains and freed Voltes V.
  • Overprotective Mom: She's rather… overprotective of her sons, especially her youngest, who she often treated as Just a Kid in the beginning. This is mainly because she's afraid they would try to take off to space after their father if they discover their alien heritage.
    • She is very reluctant of letting Little Jon become a member of Voltes Team to fight off the Boazanian invasion and eventually relented due to desperation and absence of other cadets.
  • Second Love: She is this to Hrothgar who fell in love with her after she showed him kindness and compassion after their First Contact and she helped him adjust living on Earth and gave him the name of "Ned Armstrong". They eventually marry and have three half-Boazanian sons together.

    Dr. Richard Smith
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/albertmartinez.png
Richard Smith
Played by: Albert Martinez

He is the commander of Camp Big Falcon fortress. He helped design and build the Voltes V robot and is a good friend of Dr. Ned. He is considered a father figure to the Voltes Team, especially to the Armstrong brothers due to his relationship with their father.

  • Adaptational Attractiveness: Not that Hamaguchi was ugly, but Smith certainly looks like a Silver Fox in Legacy compared to him.note
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Not that he is evil but he is a patient, understanding and supportive father figure to Mark Gordon, even going as far to uncovering the truth behind his mother's demise so that the young man gets the closure he needs. This is in contrast with his anime counterpart Professor Hamaguchi who ordered his men to forcibly kidnap Ippei Mine against his will and made him a member of Voltes Team without giving him a choice (though he did also tell Mark the truth about his mother later on just like Smith does).
  • Adaptational Wimp: He is not a martial arts combatant, and thus was helpless against the fake "Ned Armstrong" who choked him by the neck before stabbing him, in contrast with his anime counterpart Professor Hamaguchi who can fight.
  • Cool Old Guy: He is this to Little Jon who contacts him and wanted to be a part of something bigger.
  • Dies Differently in Adaptation: In the original run, he dies crashing an already damaged hijacked Boazanian escape shuttle into a Beast Fighter in order to free Voltes V from its grip, much like Mitsuyo/Mary Ann. Here, he's unceremoniously stabbed by the android "Ned Armstrong" and died of his wounds.
  • Given Name Reveal: According to Word of God (and Dr. Hook in Episode 50), his full name is revealed to be Richard Hamaguchi Smith.
  • Mentor Occupational Hazard: This happens to him by the robot imposter of Ned Armstrong and his death devastates the Voltes Team upon stumbling his already dead body.
  • Related in the Adaptation: Inverted.
  • Spotting the Thread: When investigating Judy, the girl Big Bert dated and brought her for a brief tour inside Camp Big Falcon with Sgt. Major Edwards, he discovers that she has no legal records of her existence on Earth and her body temperature is revealed to be higher than a normal human just like Hrothgar when he first met the former Boazanian royal.
  • Team Dad: He is to the Armstrong brothers and also Mark Gordon whom he congratulated after Voltes Team's first victory against Dokugaga.

    Dr. Larry Hook
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/f0_2wx2ayaiki57.jpg
Played by: Neil Ryan Sese

He is the new commander of Camp Big Falcon after Dr. Smith was murdered by Android Ned Armstrong who is a very strict leader with the best interests of the Voltes Team and the defense of Earth.

He is also the former protege of Dr. Smith.

  • Big Damn Heroes: When all hope seemed lost for Camp Big Falcon, he shows up in time to assume command and implement solutions to successfully bring back the base shields to full power and even disable the bomb device planted by Imposter Ned Armstrong inside the Volt Frigate within short notice.
  • Big Entrance: He does this when he showed up in the middle of Camp Big Falcon under siege by Boazanian ships to take command to turn the tide.
  • Catchphrase: "Move It!"
  • Death Glare: His face does this when Little Jon tries to compliment him with a friendly pat on the shoulder.
  • Due to the Dead: He refuses to let the belongings of deceased Dr. Smith be cleared out when he settles in as new commander of Camp Big Falcon because it will always be the office of his mentor.
  • Drill Sergeant Nasty: He is this to the Voltes Team as he is clearly not impressed of them so far and wanted them to push themselves to their limits such as when he had Camp Big Falcon's seeker missiles fired at their Volt Machines while telling them to evade the attacks without using weapons, and master the "Spin Fly" technique in their V Formation together.
  • Given Name Reveal: His full name is Larry Hook.
  • I'm Not Here to Make Friends: He says this in verbatim when Little Jon assumes he would become a new friend to the Voltes Team, he is here to help them win the war against the Boazanians.
  • Nerves of Steel: He makes his entrance into Camp Big Falcon while under attack like it seemed nothing as the headquarters' personnel and the heroes are acting with panic and foul-tempers.
  • Refusal of the Call: He was originally offered to be the commander of Camp Big Falcon but he refused. The death of his mentor Dr. Smith changed his mind and took his place as his successor.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: He delivers this to Eva after she was caught and defeated by him as he tells her that she doesn't deserve to be a hero because of her selfishness before ordering the guards to take her away from Camp Big Falcon.
  • Tom the Dark Lord: A heroic example as his first name Larry is not as intimidating as his surname Hook.
  • Unflinching Walk: Didn't even bat an eye when Camp Big Falcon is falling apart around him as he makes his way to the command center.

    General Oscar Robinson
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fvcycffaqaa4_xf.jpg

Played by: Gabby Eigenmann

Jamie's father, one of the co-designers of Voltes V, and commander of the Earth's Defense Force.

  • Big Good: He is the leader of Earth's Defense Force.
  • Disappointed in You: He does this when chewing out Eva Sanchez, Ally Chan, Tomas del Rosario, and PJ Santiago for their tardiness, which he disqualifies them from the training program and assign them as members of Mission Control staff.
  • Gondor Calls for Aid: After Voltes Team is injured and their Volt Machines under repair from Namazuka's attack, he requests with the world leaders to set aside their differences and send aid to defend Camp Big Falcon from the catfish-like Beast Fighter's siege. He succeeds and they send several squadrons of jet fighters on the way.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: He uses himself as a Human Shield to protect Jamie from Oslak's ship blasting them after he took the mind controlling ring out from his daughter.
  • It's All My Fault: He is upset that his daughter almost lost her life because of Apable, the man whom he assigned as her bodyguard and the actual assassin all along.
  • Papa Wolf: After Apable is defeated and captured but gets sniped down, he promises retribution to the real culprit behind the assassination attempt on Jamie Robinson not just as the Supreme Commander, but as her father too.
  • Parental Favoritism: Zigzagged. Sometimes he dotes on his daughter Jamie and even cheers for her during a live fire exercise between Volt Machines and Camp Big Falcon's defenses. But he has to put his foot down when Jamie insists on taking care of herself when she was a target of an assassination scheme by Eva and Apable, and assigns her a bodyguard.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: He is this as he hears out Hrothgar/Ned Armstrong's warning about the incoming Boazanian invasion and believes him. He backs him up when the skeptical world leaders do not seem to believe him and later ask if there is a way to counter the threat of Beast Fighters.
  • Secretly Dying: He was afflicted with cancer but didn't tell anyone about it it except Dr. Alonso.
  • Spotting the Thread: Becomes suspicious of Impostor Ned's identity when he expressed surprise on being asked about his mission in Boazan since the Impostor doesn't know this. Dr. Smith decides to assign Sgt. Major Edwards to a special mission to investigate him.
  • So Proud of You: He says this to his daughter Jamie Robinson after Voltes Team's first victory against the Boazanian invaders, even personally awarding her a Medal of Honor and a Lieutenant rank promotion in an award ceremony.
  • Tranquil Fury: He is absolutely livid that there are traitors within Camp Big Falcon when addressing to everyone in the base as he promises leniency if the culprit behind his daughter's assassination attempt will step out and surrender, but if the said culprit is eventually caught in the act, then they will feel his full wrath.
  • You Are in Command Now: Tells Dr. Hook this when he shows up in his Big Damned Heroes moment to turn the tide and become the new commander of Camp Big Falcon.

    OCTO- 1
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fybjeidwcaaqfia.jpg

Voiced by: Michael V.

OCTO-1 is Little Jon's highly-advanced robot octopus, his most prized invention. Little Jon considers OCTO-1 to be the sixth member of the Voltes Team.

  • Adaptational Early Appearance: Tako-chan doesn't appear in the original run until two episodes after Negg's appearance, as opposed to before like in here.
  • Adaptational Gender Identity: A variant of this trope. In the original anime, Tako had a female voice actor. However, in Legacy his voice actor is male.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: He greets the audience directly after introducing himself to Steve and Jamie.
  • Cassandra Truth: Gets his battery removed by Little John for talking bad about "Ned Armstrong". He could've gotten his point across had he pointed out all the dead soldiers and Dr. Richard Smith having been attacked.
  • Cute Machines: Is this and he is adorable as Jamie remarks on.
  • Enemy Scan: Has sensors that can scan living and non-living organisms. He offers this to Steve when his lingering doubts on Impostor Ned's identity put a further wedge between himself and his brothers who have fully trusted Ned.
  • Peek-a-Boo Corpse: When sneaking into Ned Armstrong's room to check for clues, he hides in the closet... and spots the security officer the Impostor killed and hid, and even checks for (lack of) vital signs.
  • Ridiculously Human Robots: Expresses abject fear and concern for the Armstrongs.
  • Wingding Eyes: Gets swirly eyes after Namazuka renders all the Voltes Team unconscious with its beam attack, and during the Spin Fly technique exercise.

    Eva Sanchez
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ellevillaineuva.png
Eva Sanchez
Played by: Elle Villanueva

Eva was one of the candidates in the Voltes Team training program, but ends up disqualified for breaking Camp Big Falcon's rules and was reassigned to staff member of Mission Control alongside Ally Chan, Tomas del Rosario and PJ Santiago by General Oscar Robinson.

She is also the former girlfriend of Steve Armstrong.

  • Action Girl: She is this as she was one of the cadets in the Voltes Team training program and passed the final exam alongside Ally and Jamie.
  • Alpha Bitch: She is not a pleasant person as an understatement, and she tends to be full of herself. It gets worse when she intends to have Jamie killed and take her place in the Voltes Team.
    • Academic Alpha Bitch: Eva is noted to be a skilled sniper, impressing everyone with her skills in the first episode.
  • Attention Whore: Eva wants to be part of the Voltes Team not because she wants to save innocent lives, but because it will fuel her ego.
  • Betty and Veronica: Eva is belittling, unkind and a Jerkass, unlike Jamie who enjoys taking care of people and being empathetic.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: During the entire Takeo and Arisa arc, Eva feigns concern for Jamie's injury, when it was actually her who shot her.
  • Blackmail: She threatens to blow the whistle on Apable if he doesn't help her get rid of Jamie after catching him spying for a defense contractor.
  • Break the Haughty: Eva suffer this after she was finally caught and arrested, along with being on the well-deserved receiving end of Dr. Hook's "The Reason You Suck" Speech.
  • Brilliant, but Lazy: Eva is a skilled sniper and manipulative strategist, but her preference to bunk off missions and attention-seeking behaviour is what sabotages her full potential.
  • Canon Foreigner: She is a Legacy-exclusive character in the series.
  • Changed My Mind, Kid: She comes back to Camp Big Falcon after previously leaving it and breaking up with Steve in the aftermath of Dr. Mary Ann's heroic sacrifice and Vaizanger's defeat. She almost says this in verbatim when Jamie remarks of her return. However, she did this with ulterior motives.
  • Evil Is Petty: She tore up Jamie's room (even graffiting WE HATE JAMIE on a wall) because she was angry Steve liked her.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: When practicing saving the hostages with the Voltes team, none of them like the fact that she's assigned to them, and Mark only praises her skills begrudgingly.
  • Glory Hound: Is this as she enviously watches the award ceremony of the Armstrong brothers, Mark Gordon and Jamie Robinson getting medals and rank promotions (except Little Jon who receives a medal).
  • Green-Eyed Monster: She doesn't like that Steve and Jamie are close with each other as fellow Voltes Team members, even threatening the latter to stay away from him. Later on, she trashes Jamie's room after bypassing her lock and schemes of getting rid of her so that she becomes the new Voltes Team member.
  • Hate Sink: Insanely self-centered and sociopathic, Eva only exists to cause as much unneeded trouble within Camp Big Falcon as she possibly can, and never displays any kind of redeemable quality.
  • Idiot Ball: Eva decides to bury her murder equipment in public, which is how Dr. Hook catches her.
  • It's All About Me: Eva only cares for her own self-gratification and quickly lashes out at anything that doesn't go her way; from being disqualified from the training program to Jamie getting romantically involved with Steve.
  • Jerkass: While she acts refined and pleasant on the inside, she's petty, attention-seeking and believes that she's entitled to Steve no matter what.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: After General Robinson declares retribution to the one who plotted Jamie's death if caught in the act, she keeps her head down and accustoms herself as member of Mission Control.note
  • Laser-Guided Karma: After evading punishment several times for trying to get Jamie out of the picture, she finally gets her comeuppance when Dr. Hook kicks her out of Camp Big Falcon for good in episode 84.
  • Oh, Crap!: Her face does this when Apable is caught and arrested prior to being silenced outside the base and later when General Robinson declares his intention to make the culprit who tried to kill his daughter pay dearly for it.
  • Opportunistic Bastard: However, she jumps at the chance to reinstate herself into the Voltes Team as soon as she picks up word that Big Bert intends to leave Camp Big Falcon.
  • Red Herring: She is accused of being a spy by Jamie Robinson after seemingly stealing classified blueprints of Camp Big Falcon without authorization. However, it turns out that she took them under Dr. Smith's orders and she mocks Jamie for the false accusation.
  • Smug Snake: She does this when things seemingly go her way as intended. Her fellow former candidate Ally Chan lampshades this whenever she sees her smile like that.
  • Token Evil Teammate: Of the Camp Big Falcon crew. Eva is an amoral and sociopathic character who is solely motivated by her own ego and has no real desire to protect the world from the Boazanian invasion out of any moral consciousness.

    Security Specialist Apable

Played by: Migs Villasis

Apable is a Security Specialist in Camp Big Falcon and a spy for a defense contractor.

  • Ain't Too Proud to Beg: Once Eva susses him out, he begs her not to tell on him and even offers her half of his money if she agrees to stay silent. Eva turns down the cash offer and says that she wants something else - for him to kill Jamie Robinson.
  • Assassination Attempt: He attempts to kill Jamie Robinson, the target of Eva's scheme of getting rid of her and replace her in the Voltes Team. Once by sniping, where he missed, and twice with a silence pistol up close, during which she thwarted him, but managed to escape during the base alarm when Negg started attacking the harbor where the model boat competition was taking place. And finally, third, he drugged Jamie to be weakened enough so he can finish the job without her fighting back. Unfortunately, for him, Steve and Mark intervene on time and subdued him.
  • Canon Foreigner: Like Eva, he doesn't have an anime counterpart and is made specifically for this show.
  • Dramatic Irony: He is assigned as Jamie's bodyguard... even though he was the one who almost assassinated her by sniper shot but missed.
  • Jerkass: He is rude and condescending towards Steve in first meeting, which is unbefitting for a professional soldier, and later on, in middle of the final exam, he shoots Steve who fortunately survived due to his half-Boazanian physiology.
  • The Mole: He serves as a spy for a defense contractor, as he claims to a skeptical Eva, within Camp Big Falcon.
  • Private Military Contractors: He claims to work for a defense contractor. The same contractor that apparently wanted him to spy on Camp Big Falcon and Voltes Team. However, it was never brought up again after Eva sniped down Apable and no one seemed to discovered his true allegiance during the investigation of his murder. note
  • Red Herring Mole: He is this as he is actually a spy for a defense contractor. He even takes offense of being accused by Eva for working for the Boazanian invaders.
  • Secret-Keeper: He is ordered by General Robinson and Dr. Mary Ann Armstrong to keep quiet regarding the Boazanian half nature of the Armstrong brothers after being called over to their office regarding his shooting incident with Steve. Although, since he was a spy for a defense contract supplier, he would most likely share that information about it as part of his espionage mission.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: His petty act of shooting Steve ends up for the older Armstrong brother to notice he survived thanks to his Boazanian half and suspect that he and his brothers are not exactly normal.
  • Taking You with Me: He threatens this to Eva who blackmailed him into helping her assassinate Jamie and if he gets caught, he won't hesitate to bring her down with him. Unfortunately, he never gets to fulfill his promise after he gets sniped down when escorted out of Camp Big Falcon.

    Ally Chan
Played by: Sophia Senoron

Eva's best friend who works as Camp Big Falcon's Mission Control.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ally_chan.png
Ally Chan
  • Beta Bitch: Downplayed, but she is Eva's best friend/confidant. Eva often vents to her about her feelings and shamelessly brags about her hatred of Jamie. While Ally doesn't like her behaviour, she never turns in Eva to the proper authorities.
  • Canon Foreigner: Is a Legacy-original character.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Ally is put off by Eva's Yandere tendencies towards Steve. She also dislikes that she bullies Jamie.
  • Hidden Depths: In the first episode, it's shown that she's skilled at shooting.
  • Those Two Girls: Ally is almost always seen with Eva.
  • Token Minority: Based on her surname, she's of Chinese descent, in a Filipino-majority cast.

    Tomas del Rosario
Played by: Jamir Zabarte

A teenage boy who works as Camp Big Falcon's Mission Control. He is more serious than his friends, and speaks formally.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tomas_del_rosario.png
Tomas del RosarioUnmasked
  • Apologizes a Lot: In episode 71, when Ally and PJ insensetively ask if the rumours of Steve being half-Boazanian are true, Tomas calls them out and apologizes on their behalf.
Tomas: "I apologize for my friend's callousness."
  • Canon Foreigner: Is a Legacy-original character.
  • Gratuitous English: Compared to his friends, most of his lines are in English rather than Tagalog.
  • Ship Tease: Tomas and Jamie get rather physical during training and the look on his face implies that he's infatuated with her. However, it's clear that he doesn't have a chance with her, at least not the same way Steve and Mark do.
  • The Stoic: Compared to the Alpha Bitch Eva, the Beta Bitch Ally and the Cheerful Child PJ, Tomas is this between Eva's friend group. However, he does have his moments of defrosting.
  • Tuckerization: He is obviously named after Martin del Rosario, Zardoz's actor.

    PJ Santiago
Played by: Dave Duque

A highly energetic teenage boy who works as Camp Big Falcon's Mission Control.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pj_7.png
PJ
  • Cannot Keep a Secret: PJ instantly asks Steve about the rumours of his Boazan heritage in front of the whole cafeteria, causing Eva to overhear.
  • Canon Foreigner: Is a Legacy-original character.
  • Cheerful Child: He's a teenager who's a Perpetual Smiler and friendly to everyone he meets.
  • Dumbass Has a Point: Even though he's a dimwit, he expresses concern at Mark barging into Jamie's room because of the obvious violation of privacy. It later turns out that Mark was justified because Apable was attempting to kill Jamie.
  • Good Is Dumb: He works for Big Falcon and doesn't have a malicious bone in his body, unlike his friends Eva and Ally. However, he's also rather dim.
  • Keet: Is he ever. PJ is a wide-eyed and excitable boy, eager to jump on Eva's offer of partying hard and Fanboying hard about the Voltes team in front of Manuel.
  • Oblivious to Hatred: Smacks Mark on the arm, thinking it's all in good fun. Mark's Death Glare says otherwise.
  • Perpetual Smiler: PJ often grins.
  • Smart People Wear Glasses: Inverted. PJ wears glasses but he's an idiot who doesn't think twice before opening his mouth.
    Anna
Played by: Julia Pascual

Jamie's best friend who works as Camp Big Falcon's Mission Control.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/anna_voltes_v_legacy.png
Anna
  • Canon Foreigner: Is a Legacy-original character.
  • Expy: Of Dr. Mary Ann Collins Armstrong. She acts as a supportive pillar to a member of the Voltes team, has the same hairstyle, and has the word "Ann" in her name.
  • Nice Girl: We don't see much of Anna, but when we do, it's of her being encouraging to Jamie.
  • Satellite Character: To Jamie. She doesn't have an arc or backstory of her own, and the only thing separating her from the cast of other Camp Big Falcon personnel is that she's Jamie's best friend and often listens to her venting.
  • Shipper on Deck: Anna ships Mark and Jamie, gushing about how Mark cares for her and is sweet. When she realizes that Jamie still holds feelings for Steve, she becomes exasperated.
  • Those Two Girls: In a similar vein to Ally with Eva, Anna is Jamie's best friend. Like Ally, most of her dialogue revolves around her best friend so that the audience is informed of what she thinks and how she feels about Steve.

    Sergeant Major Edwards
Played by: Joaqin Manansala

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/scm_edwards.png
SGM Edwards

    Tadao
Played by: Kimson Tan
A guard at Camp Big Falcon.

    Chief Kelly Bautista
Played by: Angela Alarcon

  • Action Girl: She is a chief at Camp Big Falcon after all.
  • Canon Foreigner: Is a Legacy-original character.
  • Number Two: She is this to Dr. Smith before his death, and later Dr. Hook in Camp Big Falcon when leading Mission Control to warn Beast Fighter presence and survey the battlefield Voltes V is in.

Voltes V

    Voltes V
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/vvl_la_poster.jpg
The titular robot of Voltes V: Legacy who is created as Earth's last line of defense against the threat of the Boazanian invaders and piloted by the Voltes Team.

  • Awesome, but Impractical: The Ultra Electromagnetic Ball is this as it drains out Voltes V's energy after channeling a lot of power through the Laser Sword and even if it did hit the Beast Fighter, the Super Robot won't have enough power left to finish the enemy off. Fortunately the Mechanical Eagle rectifies the problem by installing a new reactor on Voltes V's back.
  • BFS: Possesses the Laser Sword it brings out from its chest and uses it as a Finishing Move to defeat a Beast Fighter.
  • BFG: Has the Voltes Bazooka which the right arm transforms into said weapon and fire it with maximum firepower as shown when briefly pushing back Vaizanger.
  • Calling Your Attacks: Voltes Team call out their attacks from their Volt Machines and Voltes V via voice activation to bring out a variety of weaponry to use against Beast Fighters in battle.
