    Humans With Powers

Chiharu Irie -Tropes:

  • Cute Mute: Chiharu is mute and can only communicate through sign language, writing or text. Which sometimes adds onto her already adorable features.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Nearly everything of this girl is golden! Her eyes, her hair and her heart. Chiharu is known to be a very kindhearted girl who is friendly to everyone. Including the monsters she was raised to avoid.
  • The Pollyanna: There have been many unfortunate happenings in Chiharu's life. The loss of her grandfather/guardian, her parents having been missing almost since birth and much more. Yet she never lets them keep her down for too long, always keeping her head up and having an ultimately positive outlook.

Malik J. Roberts -Tropes:

  • Person of Mass Destruction: Malik has the supernatural power over Destruction itself, having the potential to destroy anything and everything.
  • Nigh-Invulnerability: The boy's secondary power is Invulnerability, making him as tough and durable as steel. This grants him an immunity to extreme temperature whether hot or cold. Also, he is granted large amounts of stamina, capable of fighting for hours without becoming exhausted in any apparent way. As he begins to grow stronger, so does his invulnerable body.
  • Made of Iron: Malik's Invulnerability makes him immune to physical pain. This allows him to easily shrug off any possible damage he has sustained as if it never happened.
  • Comes Great Responsibility: He utilizes his great destructive power to protect innocent and good people as well as combat evil beings such as common criminals, maniacs, and even those who aren't human. This can encompass demons, monstrous beasts, and malevolent creatures. Malik's dream as a child was to always become a hero, a noble person who upholds justice defends others, crushes evil, and, like a superhero, saves the day in some cases.

    Non-Humans

Alice Matsushita - Tropes:

  • Anti-Hero: She is rather neutral, generally willing to do good, but won't hesitate to take things to an extreme.
  • Daywalking Vampire: Alice has none of the traditional vampire weaknesses, therefore she is able to walk in the daylight just fine. Although she prefers the night.
  • Femme Fatale: Inhumanly beautiful and attractive, but just as dangerous. It's not uncommon that she will use seduction with an air of danger to get what she wants.
  • Finger-Suck Healing: An exaggerated variation. She can heal cuts, scratches and small wounds by licking them.
  • Our Vampires Are Different: She has no traditional vampire weakness and is immortal to an extent. She can still be killed through violence, despite being tougher than humans. Her vampirism is also more of it's own species. Therefore she is not undead and was born a vampire by vampire parents. (Note: There are different vampires on this site; some undead and turned.)
  • Smug Super: Alice has a lot of pride in her clan and who she is. Therefore she will look down on those who aren't vampires and sometimes other vampires that aren't of the same species as she. If there's a chance to prove it, it will be done.
  • Super-Speed / Super-Strength / Super-Toughness: Along with amazing acrobatics, these are all powers that comes with her species of vampire.
  • Tsundere: To an extent. Even though she acts cold on the outside and is more of a lone wolf, she can drop the prideful and cold act if flustered. Sometimes even acting no different than a typical young woman instead of a vampire.

    Humans without Powers

Francis Miyano - Tropes:

  • Armoured Closet Gay: Francis makes himself out to be a rather traditionalistic man. He sees success as taking on his fathers business, marrying a beautiful girl and having children to be the heirs of the business. It is no secret that Francis is very homophobic, but it is not as well known that this is because he is a homosexual himself.
  • AxCrazy: With Francis' obsession with sharp objects, during psychotic episodes, he is very much this.
  • Cain and Abel: Villainous (and psychotic, in this case) older brother, victimized younger brother, battling siblings. Yep all there.
  • Disappeared Dad: The Miyano brother's father is almost never around and never played a huge role in their upbringing. He did not believe that child-raising was the man's job.
  • Driven to Suicide: Francis suffers depression for a long time accompanied by self harm and an eating disorder, and eventually leads to a suicide attempt, however it is failed.
  • Evil Redhead: Albeit somewhat unintentionally, Francis is viewed very antagonistically by other characters.
  • Gayngst: Francis is a homosexual and hates himself for it for a long time. He fears what other's reactions may be and I can assure you, once his parents do find out, it will not be a pleasant reaction.
  • Height Angst: Francis is very self-conscious regarding his height.
  • Idle Rich: neither of the Miyano brothers work. They have their own apartments that are paid for by mummy and daddy. They don't have to worry about getting jobs in the future, the family business ensures that for them.
  • Insane Equals Violent: Francis during psychotic episodes; e.g. Stabbing out his brother's eyes, abusing his girlfriend, stabbing his OWN hand with a fork.
  • Internalized Categorism: Francis has a lot of self hating tendencies for everything that he is; homosexual, dangerous to others, short, visually rather feminine, and a general failure to all the things he wants to be.
  • Laughing Mad: This is a common trait of Francis during his psychotic episodes, as seen in Flirting With Disaster in which he has a manic fit of laughter after stabbing his own hand.
  • My Beloved Smother: The Miyano brother's mother shares daddy's traditional view on parents (and everything else) and tries to overcompensate for his absence. She dotes on her two sons, even though one of them stabbed the other in the eyes and has a lot of trouble accepting that they're adult men.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Francis experiences this, and probably said this, after stabbing out his younger brother's eyes in a psychotic episode.
  • Not Evil, Just Misunderstood: Francis doesn't have any evil intentions and actually regrets the things he says and does, but Bipolar Disorder is a bitch.
  • (Everyone is) One Head Taller: is most of the Rich Brats towards Francis (Francis being the shortest male thus far in the group).
  • Sex for Solace: This is how Franran starts on Francis' part. Unable to cope with being in a heterosexual relationship and horrified and depressed over the abusive tendencies that have arisen because of it, Francis searches to explore his sexuality while depressed and agrees to sleep with Ciaran for the first time out of solace.
  • Sibling Rivalry: Felix and Francis used to attempt to outdo each other back in the day and still do in more aggressive ways now, even after the stabbing incident.
  • Sour Outside, Sad Inside: Francis is very much this. He often acts superior and very sour, when really he's very, very depressed. Very few people get to know this.
  • Tears of Remorse: After stabbing out Felix's eyes, and time alone thinking about the things he's does to Juliet causes these, as he is aware of the bad things he's done and that he can never be forgiven.
  • The Perfectionist: Francis has to be the best at everything he does. He has to be at the top and he has to be the perfect human being – and the fact there are many reasons he can't be, causes him a lot of self-hate.
  • Transparent Closet: Francis with Ciaran (or attractive men in general). During a conversation with Ciaran, who is being rather flirty, it is more than obvious that Francis is attracted to males, no matter how he tries to hide it. This can be seen in What Is It You Desire?
  • Uke: Let's face it. He's paired with Ciaran, of course he's the Uke.
  • We Used to Be Friends: When the Miyano brothers were younger of course, their competition was healthy and friendly. They loved each other. Then Francis stabbed his brother in the eyes and things were never the same again for obvious reasons.

Felix Miyano - Tropes:

  • Berserk Button: Could also fall under Rage Breaking Point. Usually the topic that sets Felix off is his older brother and he almost never is civil around Francis either.
  • Black Sheep: Felix doesn't quite fit in with the rest of his family — he's the only one who consistently brings up the elephant in the room (his blindness) and completely disregards social niceties and decorum, whilst his parents and brother attempt to maintain some semblance of normalcy during family occasions.
  • Blind Musician: Felix is blind yet he plays the piano.
  • Byronic Hero: Moody with anger management issues? Check. Self-sacrificing? Check. Passionate and rebels against social status and position? Check (see first link — flirting with disaster). Felix is your typical angsty hero.
  • Idle Rich: neither of the Miyano brothers work. They have their own apartments that are paid for by mummy and daddy. They don't have to worry about getting jobs in the future, the family business ensures that for them.
  • Marriage of Convenience: Engaged to Fukazawa Yukiko because of Miyano-Fukazawa business ties.
  • It Meant Something to Me: This one applies in a slightly roundabout way; Yukiko slowly starts to fall in love with Felix once they are engaged and expects the same from him but Felix has his eyes set on someone else.
  • My Beloved Smother: The Miyano brother's mother shares daddy's traditional view on parents (and everything else) and tries to overcompensate for his absence. She dotes on her two sons, even though one of them stabbed the other in the eyes and has a lot of trouble accepting that they're adult men.
  • Pity Sex: Part of the reason why Felix (eventually) sleeps with Mayumi.
  • Sibling Rivalry: Felix and Francis used to attempt to outdo each other back in the day and still do in more aggressive ways now, even after the stabbing incident.
  • Suddenly Shouting: Felix has quite a temper and usually experiences a calm-before-the-storm type reaction such as in Flirting with Disaster.
  • We Used to Be Friends: When the Miyano brothers were younger of course, their competition was healthy and friendly. They loved each other. Then Francis stabbed his brother in the eyes and things were never the same again for obvious reasons.

Saki Fujimura - Tropes:

  • Accent Adaptation: Saki comes from Wakayama, so she speaks with Kansai accent in Japanese. Adapted to English, her written dialog becomes Southern.
  • Coming of Age Story: Her leaving her hometown Hidakagawa for Haven is basically this. She started off being rather naive, but she's grown and learned a lot during her stay in the city.
  • Country Mouse: Saki is definitely this when she first arrived in Haven.
  • Girl Next Door: Good girl from a good, well functioning family in a village with good community.
  • The Stoic: Saki doesn't speak much by default and tends to listen more to what others are saying.
  • Welcome to the Big City: She saw Eiji fought with gang members just a few days after she moved to the city. It was also their very first meeting.

Natsume Hashimoto - Tropes:

  • Affectionate Nickname / In-Series Nickname: She only lets the people nearest and dearest to her call her by her nickname: 'Natsu'. These people being her family and more recently, Søren.
  • Being Personal Isn't Professional: Natsume on the job is very different when she isn't working. On top of that, she has a very firm line between work and personal life. However, personal and professionalism soon mixed after becoming the manager for the TV star; Søren San Jun. She still pulls up her professional side in front of business partners, though.
  • Born Unlucky: She has faced a lot of misfortune in her life, so much she was nicknamed the 'Goddess of Misfortune'.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: A very mild version of this; She has always been jealous of her siblings due to the fact that they were born with powers and she was not. However, she loves them very much and does not hate them for it.
  • Hard-Drinking Party Girl: Often she would go to a bar or nightclub with friends, or alone since she moved to Haven City. Even at home she has quite a collection of alcohol.
  • I Just Want to Be Special: She is jealous of her sibling's powers, so she worked very hard at a career that would make her as 'special' as her brother and sister. However it failed.
  • Middle Child Syndrome: She has an older sister and a little brother; both have powers. Therefore her parents focused on the youngest and oldest.
  • Parents as People: Because of her older sister's powers, Natsume's parents often focused more on Mika. She was often ignored after her younger brother's birth and display of powers. Despite this, her parents never meant to ignore her and love her as much as her siblings.
  • Plucky Office Girl: A variation of this; Søren often makes her job very difficult, sometimes on purpose. To top it all off, she is rather poor in luck. But unlike this trope, she tends to drink her problems away and doesn't let her get it down.
  • Work Hard, Play Hard: At work, she is very professional, pleasant and responsible. After work she would go out to a nightclub to have fun or, if the day was bad, get drunk at a bar.
  • Workaholic: Since she was young, she was busy working on trying to put herself on the same level as her siblings.
