Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Ask the Tropers is for:

openBias and Page Blanking
Well, not necessarily page blanking since the description is still there, but doctor05 just removed the entire trope list from China Uncensored because they...support the CCP and therefore, apparently, "don't deserve the tropes".
Edited by WarJay77openSpeaking as someone without even passing familiarity with the source material...
doctor05 has been really vandalizing the China Uncensored page. Maybe he has a point, maybe they are everything he claims about them. I don't know. I wouldn't've noticed if he hadn't posted a poorly-written review of the series, something which probably would've been healthier than editing the page proper.
But he's not only deleted half the page, but made many judgmental edits that turn what's left into criticism of the show, often with spelling and grammar errors to boot.

This is on YMMV.Bluey:
- Germans Love David Hasselhoff: The show has a rather large fanbase in the United States, thanks to its airings on Disney Junior.
Is this misuse? I believe Germans Love David Hasselhoff is when a work becomes particularly large or even larger outside of its home country, but this comes off as misuse to me, since this just seems like "the show has a fanbase outside its home country".

I can`t make single-word trope names link to the correct page when I type it like I would a multi-word trope name. How can I deal with this problem?
openA thing with relationship statuses
I noticed that unlike titles or forum signatures, we can’t make our own relationship statuses., why is that?
openToo many exemples
Is there such a thing as "too many exemple of a single trope in a single work" ? I've been adding many exemple of Literal-Minded for Titeuf and it's seems to be a lot. Can there be too much or is it fine ?
openThe last of Us Part 2 Ymmv Videogame
So I was about to add an example on Ymmv to inform people not to mention the leaks like
Internet Backdraft: Mentioning gameplay leaks will cause a lot of outrage and boyscott. So it's best not to discuss here.
But then I saw that Internet Backdraft is now a Flame Bait therefore I can't use this tropes. So what's the best way to warm editor not to discuss the leaks without causing the Edit war?
Edited by BubblepigopenUnpublished work in main wiki Literature
I don't think there's a long-term projects thread for this, but I found Literature.Burnt Empire. It is, according to the page, "this troper's attempt at making something readable" that is "probably not going to be published". The page links to a blog that hasn't been updated since 2011 and has a few excerpts, but I'm not sure if excerpts from a work can be troped. Should this go to Darth Wiki, or is it fine in Literature/?
openMysterious Cities of Gold YMMV.
- Germans Love David Hasselhoff: The very, very, very different fate of the show in its two countries of origin: obscure, rapidly forgotten show in Japan; and a generation-defining classic in the French-speaking world.
- Also, while the show is entirely set in Latin America, and a Spanish dub exists, it was never broadcast, aside from some Latin American channels. Understandably, as Spanish conquistadores are the Big Bads.
- The Spanish being the big bads is actually very debatable. If anything, the Olmecs are the Big Bads while everyone assumes the Spaniards are the Big Bads. There have been shown to be plenty of despicable people on both sides, with Malinche, probably being the worst you can get in this series, being an Aztec. (Even the Spanish Doctor who's traveling with her is disgusted when she suggests poisoning a village's river supply)
- The whole show is very careful to reinforce the point that aside from the three children (and any other children they meet), very few are Black-and-White Morality "good guys". Aside from those mentioned above, at least one tribe of Native Americans tries to sacrifice the children, and even the fabled Heva civilization ended up in a war of mutually assured destruction with Atlantis. Arguably the central conceit in giving the medallions to children at birth is because they would only use them for the right reasons.
- Also, while the show is entirely set in Latin America, and a Spanish dub exists, it was never broadcast, aside from some Latin American channels. Understandably, as Spanish conquistadores are the Big Bads.
This is not only natter and irrelevant to the trope at hand but is taken verbatim from the Americans Hate Tingle section. Can I remove it? I wanted to but since its controversial decided to take it here first.
EDIT:The first entry can stay and is kosher. The natter is what I want removed.
Edited by AegisPopenOpposite YMMVs
On occasion, there's things where the same situation gets put on opposing YMMV pages, along the lines of: Tear Jerker: "Alice dies" and then Awesome: "Alice finally dies". Since different opinions is what YMMV is for, and there are some characters who really are that polarizing, what's the right procedure to follow (if neither is particularly bashy)?
For example, there was a line on Isekai Quartet that said something like "Those who can't stand Ainz being a Villain Sue will enjoy seeing him finally get his ass kicked here".
Edited by Chabal2openDisturbing Headscratchers answer Film
Is any answer allowed in Headscratchers? Because I found a disturbingly sociopathic one in Headscratchers.A Quiet Place that basically says it's perfectly logical and acceptable to use your own children as bait, and they can be easily replaced by having another child with no real loss.
- Actually, it makes perfect sense. You put the smallest in the back, because "To evade a predator you only have to out-run the slowest group member." As the movie proved, the loss of the youngest was one pregnancy away from being a non-issue.
I would just delete it, but I want to check with everyone else if that's okay.
openCannot edit proposed trope on Trope Launch Pad Film
I placed a proposed trope on the Trope Launch Pad. Tropers can see it and offer suggestions, but when I try to go in and add their suggestions/edit the page, my edits don't save. I put them in, click save, but when I come back to the page, the new edits aren't there. I know it's all on me and I'm doing something wrong, but have no idea what it is! Help!
openTitle of a Work Mispelled Videogame
Not sure if I'm supposed to say this in a forum/where in a forum, but while trying to help add more onto articles I noticed Pokemon Sweets Version has a typo. The game is Pokemon Sweet Version.
openEditing issues and rudeness over PM
Chasekaya03 created a few awful stubpages, such as Ride.Disney Junior Live On Stage, WesternAnimation.Scribbles And Ink, and Series.Little Big Awesome.
However, that's not all.
When I sent them a notifier about Disney Junior Live On Stage, they responded that someone should fix it. When I asked if they could, they told me to "do it myself".
It's cutlisted now, and with their attitude I doubt they're planning on learning proper editing any time soon. They're just here to make bad pages and demand other people do the hard work for them, which I find unacceptable.
openRedundancy
Should tropes be on YMMV and Trivia pages if they're on a dedicated subpages? For example, Alternative Character Interpretation examples on YMMV.Pokemon when AlternativeCharacterInterpretation.Pokemon exists, or What Could Have Been on Trivia.Sonic Adventure when WhatCouldHaveBeen.Sonic The Hedgehog exists.
openTroper With Editing Problems
This time I'll bring your attention to Planet Earth Is Blue. I've sent a few notifiers their way, the first one back in January for ZCE issues. They've not improved since, despite that I've sent at least two notifiers afterward (in February and in April). Here's some examples, all of which came after my first three notifiers (I sent another one tonight):
- Added lots of ZCE's on this page, and there's an instance of potholing a trope name as well.
- This one reveals some potential grammar issues.
- ZCE here.
- And here.
I'm fairly certain I started observing their edits after seeing them post ZCEs on the TLP, but I can't be positive and don't have the time to go back and check. If anyone else would like to do so, feel free...
Edited by WarJay77open Questionable notes Anime
On Characters.Yu Gi Oh Arc V Yuya Counterparts, I found these notes:
- For the sake of consistency, please pay attention to First-Name Basis and Last-Name Basis, and don't use dub names without context to the dub.
- Using the OCG or TCG version of card names is fine.
Both of these note are worrisome since it violates a rule I've seen elsewhere regarding dub names vs original. Said rule establishes that we prioritize dub names if such a dub exists. In this case, YuGiOh Arc-V does have an English dub.
The notes were added to that page as part of a transfer from a page split. Tropers.Fsdfsdfsd made the transfer.
Are these notes kosher?
Edited by TheNerfGuy
I think that troper Kappa Cop might be a sockpuppet for Eighter / Li-Li1000 / EarsplittingLepidopteran / Maxwell99 / NexusLQ / Trustworthy69 / RandomX, because (1) they're showing the same grammar errors and (2) they're Serial Tweaking on a lot of the same pages as those former accounts.
However, I'm aware that it could just be a coincidence, so can a moderator please look into this?
