Likely because TV Tropes is not primarily a social network focused on the users themselves. This is a wiki where fans can hang out on the side, not really a place people go to broadcast their lives.

The relationship statuses are an old joke. I don't remember whether it was April Fool's day or Valentine's day. They were never serious, though, which is why the options are restricted this way.

Trouble Cube continues to be a general-purpose forum for those who desire such a thing.

Honestly, I do think they should add more flavor relationship statuses based of of newer memes and references. I'd love to have more relationship statuses based on Steven Universe or Pewdiepie's Minecraft Let's Plays.

It'd probably run afoul of the No Lewdness, No Prudishness rules. As Theatre Maven said, trolls would have a field day with that one.
